went to a talk with rabbi jacobs of t’ruah and the EIC of the forward the other day and it was just. such a fucking relief to be in an explicitly leftist and explicitly jewish space, where none of us had to like. spend twenty minutes apologizing for israel and disclaiming that of course there is no justification for the occupation, much less for the war, and just humbly groveling for a tiny crumb of being viewed as human being, before we were allowed to say “hey we’re all still pretty fucked up about 10/7 and in some cases the acquaintances and relatives who were killed or are currently hostages, and now it’s getting pretty antisemitic out there”. where there wasn’t any denialism or minimizing or attempts to paint hamas as heroic or 10/7 as justified and glorious, and so we were ironically more free to talk about how awful the current israeli government is because we didn’t have to spend a bunch of time prefacing it by demonstrating that we’re The Good Ones, we weren’t made to feel we had to prove we were The Good Ones in order to be allowed to speak or even remain, or in danger of having our grief and pain and fear minimized or mocked or ignored or celebrated. just knowing we all existed in the same reality and hadn’t succumbed to total epistemic closure, and we could disagree with each other and argue in good faith!!! goddamn I have genuinely felt a little physically lighter ever since, like something was less tight around my chest.

Now these are some serious thoughts that I'm having, and I'm also having them for specific reasons that I'll note at the end of this post (or its own separate one, we'll see):

— I don't see how Jing Yuan wouldn't know about the deal that Jingliu made (which I still firmly believe to have been with Lan), because otherwise I don't see how he would blindly trust her to go about the Luofu. Because ultimately, he could trust her as much as he wants to because of their past, but he also witnessed how she lost all control, and subsequently fell to the mara. The trust in this scenario isn't in her, it's in whatever it is that’s restraining the mara. — On that note, I don't see how he would trust anything tied to that, unless it was tied to someone or something that he trusts: Lan. Yes, Jing Yuan himself is another reason why I believe it's the Lan, the Aeon that opposes Yaoshi. — Keeping this in mind, it makes this final sentence to Jingliu extra interesting in my opinion: 'Then I will see this gamble through.'

On that note, as a treat to myself because I'm so close to signing my lease, and because I desperately crave to write the male muse in this franchise that I love the very most (listen, I'm happy to see my two big favorites in Genshin written well, but I just want to write my actual male favorite in HSR myself as well on top of seeing great portrayals)— no matter how popular he too, is. Something that makes reading TOA so devastating is how fucking much Apollo feels about Everything. There’s so MUCH. Like I don’t even know how to describe it to you if you haven’t read the books yourself. He has so many complicated thoughts and emotions about just about everything and he cares about everything so much and there is just SO MUCH going on in his head. And yet none of it ever reaches his mouth!!

He almost never says what he’s feeling. What little comes out of his mouth about his thoughts barely even scratches the surface of what he actually means. Like he’ll be having a long ass monologue about how incredible someone is, showing a deep understanding of them as a person and empathizing with them so hard you’d almost think it’s projection but it’s not he’s legitimately just mind melding with this random person he met like a week ago and he’s thinking the softest, kindest thoughts about them like he knows they’re fucking incredible - and what comes out of his mouth is just like, “you’re a wonderful friend :)” AND ITS LIKE. THERES SO MUCH MORE UNDER THE SURFACE. the sheer admiration and adoration he has for everyone around him……… UGHHH!!! But he never VOICES ANY OF IT!!!!!! He never tells anyone about what Zeus did to him……. He never tells anyone except the reader about his realization that Zeus is abusive…. He never even tells commodus about how much he adored him, not then and not now… he refuses to tell anyone when he’s in pain or tries to justify the things he does when he actually had Decent Reasons for why he did something… I’m. I’M. AUGH. AHHHHH

HE DOESN’T EVEN TELL US ALL OF HIS THOUGHTS IS THE THING. THERES EVEN MORE THAT HE IS NOT TELLING US!!!!! THE FUCKING OCEAN OF FEELINGS AND THOUGHTS HE HAS ABOUT EVERYTHING IS THE CLIFF NOTES VERSION. I AM IN DISTRESS.

And YET…. Even what slips out of his mouth is so fucking devastating it is SO devastating. He’s so fucking kind and gentle with Harley and Meg and and other younger Demis and his kids… he’ll act like an obstinate idiot and then turn around say something that drags the core of the person he’s talking to into the light like nail on the fucking HEAD like he reached into their soul and gave them the words to express something that they were struggling to say aloud or that they didn’t even realize about themself. Around the 2nd book he starts putting voice to some of his feelings and thoughts about others and even that tiny fucking sliver is overwhelming to the people he’s talking to bc he’s SO. AUGHHHH

I kind of hate the way mental illness is treated nowadays. Like it’s wonderful there’s less of a stigma around it but it’s been so normalized that no one takes it seriously anymore and everyone thinks they know how it works bc they watched a tiktok abt it once.

You can’t say that you have depression or anxiety because “everyone has that” so who gives a fuck?

OCD means nothing to anyone because “we’re all a little OCD amiright??” And the illness has been misrepresented and misunderstood for so long that no one understand how anyone with OCD could be suffering from it. (Hint: it isn’t keeping your room nice and organized)

Even Body Dysmorphia means jack shit because “no one likes how they look, we’re all insecure.” Like that even begins to cover the extent of the illness.

We’ve all had our sad spells, anxiety, little obsessions and self hate. What people don’t seem to understand is that all those experiences do not represent what it’s like to have the actual mental illness. Everyone experiences anxiety now and again, its part of being human. It’s when it starts interfering with your life— coming about randomly and incapacitating a person— that it becomes a disorder.

You’re not “a little OCD” because you like your room organized, and you definitely don’t know what it’s like for people who have actual OCD because you get sort of bugged when something’s out of place.

These mental illnesses can interfere with every aspect of a persons life. They’re life-altering. They’re not just fun little labels to prove how quirky and unique someone is.

Every single time. Disney Live-Action remake is announced, people hate the idea, first teaser is released, people start talking about how sick they’re getting of the remakes, and then two clips later with a catheter of nostalgia-juice “This actually looks pretty good” starts to creep into the comment sections and the tide of opinion draws back into the sea. No one ever learns, and the cycle will repeat itself until… god, if only I knew until.
