horror queers yes!! they’re so good and fun tbh. i’m also honestly disappointed they went the cop route w kirby, i would have loved to see her be a film professor or be working in that industry on some level. although maybe that love of horror movies wouldn’t be as prevalent after everything she went through 😭 i heard good things about sick also, i’ve definitely been meaning to check it out.

i am high-key sick of dead and/or brutalized female characters being used as props in male characters' stories and we've all seen "disgruntled cop with a 'fridged wife/daughter/sister" specifically. he is like. the most generic character ever. put on any prime-time crime drama or action movie and you'll find that character. he's as cliche as the meet-cute, as copy-and-paste as a clipart png. i think kirby reed being a cop is more divisive than detective bailey bc she's such a fan favorite but this guy bugs me too just in concept, i rly hope his death is a gruesome one.

now...to play the devil's advocate here...i get the logic of including police officers in stories like this. bc it's easy, okay, it's easy. murder is a crime. the ghostface murders ppl. cops (in theory) investigate crime. ergo, making a character a cop is a conventional way to involve them in the events of the story. do i like this? absolutely not. but do i understand the convenience of it? yes. but just bc it's convenient doesn't mean it's *good* storytelling and regardless of whether you're sick of copaganda or not (i am and it seems you are too, anonymoose friend), we had a cop protagonist in this franchise for 25 yrs!! we've done that before, scream, i thought we were doing DIFFERENT things now!!!

albeit...i'm still thinking kirby might be ghostface? idk. i keep going back and forth. i would hope they wouldn't bring her back just to add her to the body count. i get that her being ghostface would feel like ruining her character to so many people who loved her and while i'm sympathetic to that, i would also be (cautiously) down for it depending on how well it's executed?

we haven't seen kirby in 12 yrs. who knows what almost dying at the hands of a ghostface did to her! not to mention finding out her best friend was the other one!! and as messed up as it is, sometimes becoming the thing that scares you is the easiest way not to be afraid anymore. and theoretically, if kirby were to be (a) ghostface, she'd be like the anti-dewey and if thoughtfully executed, imo it'd be an interesting angle.

plus even in scre4m, kirby is THE BEST but also has some callous af lines??

like telling jill [sydney] was the reason she loved horror movies so much? ik she's prolly just referring to being a fan of the stab franchise, but in-universe it's still a pretty tactless statement. or at the police station right after jenny and marnie got killed, kirby mentions not getting a ghostface call and just, idk the way she asks if she's not going to live as long as jill and olivia seemed kinda...i mean, kirby has every right to be worried about her own safety, but the way it was phrased, it was almost like she was a self-aware movie character asking, "what exactly is my role here?"

that said, it's extremely probable that kirby is NOT (a) ghostface. she could truly just be another heroic cop protagonist. i don't love the cop part. but i'll take it, if it means having her back and alive.

since kirby is such a fan favorite, it'd be controversial and polarizing to go the route of either killing her off or making her a killer. if they bring her back only to kill her off, it'll actually be a death the audience *feels* bc we care abt kirby and it will establish a sense of stakes in the movie. but it could also easily come across as cheap bc, uh. where we left off in scre4m she was bleeding on the ground, so many of us assumed she was dead already. killing her now could feel like bringing her back *just* for the sole purpose of killing her and that's just plain mean.

making kirby (a) ghostface? who wants the lovable fan favorite to be a villain?? the in-universe horror fan us diehards see ourselves in? one notable of the (many, many valid) complaints about scream: resurrection was that the horror fan ended up being the primary ghostface and cited her love of horror as a motive for violence, thus playing into the stereotype that consumers of fictional violent content are bad people in actuality. in context this didn't bother me personally, but that's besides the point: the point is a sizeable percentage of the audience of a horror film does not want to see the character they relate to thru a shared love of horror be the villain, esp not a villain that potentially plays into an unflattering stereotype abt horror fans. making kirby the ghostface would be a risky move ripe to alienate that audience.

on the other hand, we love the ghostfaces almost as much as we love kirby, don't we? sydney prescott is freaking final girl royalty and depending on who you ask, a draw greater than ghostface. but the thing is neither one exists without the other. we don't have our horror heroines without our villains, nor our villains without our horror heroines...oh good lord, i'm really rambling now and for that i apologize but i'm already this far in i might as well try to remember what the point was...

yes! ghostface, okay. we love them! don't ask me how many ghostface costumes i have! there's dozens of ghostface fan edits, fanfics, posters, fanart, t-shirts. we rank the ghostfaces and playfully debate abt crossover fights with other villains or final girls. horror fandom as a whole celebrates its villains as much as-- and frequently more often than --its horror heroines (i have complex feelings abt this and the gendered dynamics at play in the horror genre, but again, my personal feelings are besides the point here). this is a phenomena touched on by two ghostfaces in-universe, even. amber says the problem with stab is that there's "no bad guy to keep coming back." beth of scream: resurrection declares, "the killer is the real hero of the story," when pointing out that it is the villains who return for sequels, their masks the face of every franchise.

if kirby were to turn out to be ghostface, depending on the execution (which imo is more crucial than the concept itself here), she might wind up being the most popular one yet! the audience already loves her. the audience already loves the peanut-eyed ghost mask. but we don't necessarily love them for the same reasons, so putting her in the mask is tricky.

whatever they do with kirby, it's not going to please everyone. they already made one controversial choice with her occupation. maybe she'll wind up being in the movie for all of five minutes and the most controversial thing of all will be that they brought kirby back after a decade and did nothing with her character at all beyond the badge.

but honestly i would've loved to see kirby as a film professor or working in the horror industry. i would've gladly signed up for her class! or watched her movies!! you bring up a good point tho, maybe kirby isn't as into horror movies after she lived thru one. i feel like it could go either way? i know people who cannot consume certain kinds of content that they previously enjoyed because of trauma, now finding it too triggering. i know other people who coped in the opposite way and became even more voracious in that consumption bc they related to the content, or found catharsis in protagonists getting resolution for fictional trauma when they couldn't get resolution for what they experienced irl.

I could see them being so worried and stressed, taking her to doctors and everything because they get better in 24-48 hours with their fancy strong immune systems! I also wonder if adopted reader would be confused by going to the doctors, because if anything happend while in previous foster homes, she was told to just figure it out and get better on her own.

You are right about one thing: hybrids have a better immune system than humans do!

Humans are considered weak and frail in every sense of the word. That includes their health. In fact, a human's health is so discussed that specialists from other races all study the human body constantly so they would be able to treat one, would they ever needed it.

(Because of the lack of total humans on this universe, it's rare to find a human doctor, for example. So, other races have to cover for them in a lot of different fields. There are programs and organizations in this world that entierelly foucused on making sure the few humans that exist would get the care they need. So, for example, if you are a doctor and also specialize on taking care of humans beside some other race, you would probably be paid more by the governement).

Now, little reader getting sick? Like, really sick? Yeah, that house is turning upside down. As hybrids, the whole 141 pride themselves on being good caretakers and providers. They also know how much more frail humans are compared to them.

But know is different from experiencing.

Little reader would start off with the typical signs of the flu. Stuffy nose, throat a bit sore, a sluggish body. All that. But, as we all know, it's very quick for sickness to develop. And in the spam of a night, little reader is waking up with a high fever and a weak, useless body.

The 141 would notice almost immediatly. They can smell how sick you are, even from your room. That weird, almost sour smell that we can usually smell when we blow our nose.

Before you know it, you would probably be in Price's or Soap's arms, surronded by their warmth, hearing their cooed words that make zero to almost no sense to your sick and hazy mind.

And at first, they are very much panicking. They are calling the rest of their pack while cooing and conforting you, Laswell being the one to tell them to immediatly take you to the doctor.

And they do, everyone going on the car together, because if one of them had anything to do that day, it's immediatly getting canceled. They would still hold you close, on their laps, and every single one of them are cooing quietly at you. Even Ghost. Tho his "cooing" sounds more like his normal voice, just extra quiet and gentler than usual.

And it's true, you're not that used to going to the doctor. You usually never get that sick, and as a foster kid, it just doesn't happen often.

But, you were feeling pretty hazy, mind clouded and feverish. You barely remember going that first time to the doctor with them.

You barely remember the kind doctor that was trying his best to easy your foster parents' worries, and all the examination he did on you, even if you couldnt cooperate much with how confused you were.

You certainly got treated at the hospital and monitored until your fever came down a bit. After that, they send you back home with your parents, who had gotten a lot of new instructions and medicines to properly take care of you at home.

You took almost a full week to finally start getting better.

They would't let you sleep in your room anymore, since you got sick, you had been sleeping on their shared nest, with them. They would constantly check on your breathing and heartbeats, and would even feed you themselves and make sure you were plenty hydrated.

And even after you got better, they would still be extra careful and overbearing for a little while longer.

You can be sure that they would be taking extra measures now so that you never get sick again.

MORE ASSASSIN SABRE BS he's a super light sleeper from having to wake up at the slightest noise and be on guard all the time. Depends when, but I assume this means when they just met.

Aiden. She got kinda awkward and couldn't say it back, but he didn't take it personally because she hugged him afterwards.

Ash is quality time as mentioned above. She doesn't need grand gestures, or gifts, or him reassuring her constantly, she just wants to...be around him.

Aiden is definitely touch. It's easy, it makes him feel good, and he feels like it expresses what he wants to say better than words. But he really likes it when Ash reassures him with words of affirmation anyways.

3. Who uses cheesy pick-up lines?

Do you even have to ask? Aiden pretty much greets her with one every day and Ash still hasn't understood a single one. There's also like, a 25% chance he will forget the pick up line half way through delivering it so he'll just bungle the whoel thing up.

Aiden kinda hovers around her in public so PDA is a given. She's got a pretty strict "no pda at school" rule tho. She's okay with him putting his arm around her or putting their heads together, but no kissing. Cuddling at home? That's fine, she likes napping with him.

Aiden likes doing puzzles with her, they get to talk together while doing one of his favourites activities :) he likes to go out too, but he doesn't want Ash to get overstimulated, so they'll usually go out to some deserted place at night.

They both suck at it lmao 💀 but Aiden calms down a lot faster than Ash does, so technically Ash is better.

They both are extremely protective. And like in a feral way ngl. They WILL choose violence lol.

Ash likes physical affection because she doesn't really know how to respond to verbal affection. Aiden is fine with either, a cuddle or a compliment is good for him :) Slight preference towards physical touch tho, and verbal is like a little treat for him since Ash almost never does it.

Ash doesn't use nicknames a lot, she just calls him Aiden, or something like "stupid, idiot, dumbass, imbecile" when he's annoyed her. Mr. Durable is the closest thing to a pet name she will give him lol.

Aiden will call Ash every single freaking thing you can imagine. Baby, babe, Bae, my love if he's feeling dramatic, Red because he's obvious like that, "wifey" is he's feeling fearless lmao. And then there's the *weird* petnames; "my sweet ketchup packet", "my favourite little rubix cube", "my beautiful princess with a disorder". All of these make Ash want to rip her hair out.

Neither of them do in on purpose 🤡 Aiden will just hyperfixate on stuff Ash tells him and remember it for special occasions. Ash is more about the every day little things, reminds him to drink water, sends him food in case he forgot it, asks how he's sleeping.

Ash, her parents taught her the basics. She's not a master chef or anything, but she won't set the kitchen on fire like Aiden.

Therapy hashira rengoku au GO

So Rengoku is the therapy dog of the hashira, send post. Ubuyashiki totally asks him to visit any of the hashira who are sick or injured.

alternately: Kyo gets sick or something (or after Mugen train???) and uhhhhh who do you send to be the therapy dog for the therapy dog???? And while the hashira are trying to decide, Giyuu just. Goes over. With a basket of sweet potatoes.

Senjuro is probably away at school and Shinjuro isn’t doing shit, so Giyuu hesitantly sets up camp in the guest room. One night Kyo’s fever gets really high and he’s so delirious that he’s crying (not even like as an action, just frozen with illness and tears streaming down his face) and Giyuu gets SO scared and actually distressed, genuinely sad because he really doesn’t like seeing the happy hashira so sick he can’t walk and is sweating through his clothes and is crying waterfalls just from the pain and delirium. he probably ends up calling Shinobu to help, and just does everything he can to keep him comfy until it breaks.

Maybe…..bath???? Baths are good when you’re sick. Rengoku insists he’s fine, but Giyuu doesn’t even make it out of the room before he hears a splash and has to become a registered lifeguard. After that he keeps rengoku company by either sitting next to the tub and just helping him in and out, or he washes his hair for him on days he’s particularly weak

Goodness, I’m such a fan of Tomioka defending the brothers from Shinjuro tho. Can you imagine the horror of Giyuu visiting the rengoku’s because he heard Kyojuro was injured and finding out it’s from his dad, not a demon??? Like if Shinjuro had ever hit Kyojuro, Kyo probably just blocks him from landing hits after the first throw, he doesn’t attack back unless absolutely necessary. But, I’m Imagining this: scenario 1) Kyojuro occasionally gets into physical altercations with his father (most he can defend himself long enough to get away, others his father gets the advantage) but doesn’t tell anyone because he’s trying to protect Senjuro; only to be there in that one episode when Tanjiro shows up to check on him and Kyo actually witnesses his father strike Senjuro and. White screens. Because it’s devastating!!! He thought he’d been protecting his brother and he wasn’t!!!! And his brother didn’t tell him, for whatever reason!!!!! Maybe they both didn’t know that the other was getting hurt as well??

Scenario 2) both brothers get hurt, and both know about the other, and whenever Kyo has a long mission he begs Kocho or Mitsuri or Obanai to check in on his brother (they don’t need convincing). So then when Kyo is sick he’s not getting directly hurt by his dad (just left sick and neglected I fucking guess) but he can’t defend Senjuro so when Giyuu starts staying with them (and I’m imagining in this particular scenario he and Kyojuro are properly infatuated with each other, and know how the other feels, but maybe they haven’t labeled anything or told anyone) he becomes the one dealing with Shinjuro

Now!!!! This can go two main ways:

1) Giyuu holds his own against Shinjuro and either guard-dogs the hell out of the brothers while he’s there or whisks them away to the water estate

2) Giyuu holds his own, but still gets pretty beat up and is willing to deal with that to help the brothers but Kyojuro can’t stand being helpless while his lover tries to defend them from his own father and gets hurt

3) Giyuu barely holds his own, gets beat up so bad, but ignores it/doesn’t mention it to Kyojuro because he doesn’t want him to worry (like Giyuu is strong, he’s not going to die but a punch is still a punch you know) (or, also bad, what if Shinjuro became like a creep towards Giyuu because he’s a new target and isn’t family and Giyuu just ‘lets him’ be horrible to him rather than resisting him (super angst). Imagine after weeks of it, Kyo waking up and seeing Giyuu bandaging his arm from broken glass cuts, or noticed how Giyuu’s body language around Shinjuro goes from dislike to despise to defeated. Imagine Kyojuro seeing scratches on Giyuu and asking what happened but to no answer. Even worse, imagine if Kyo walked in on Shinjuro either beating Giyuu or saying some really fucked up shit or both, and THAT ANGST.

Let’s say Kyo goes to visit Shinobu to get the all clear. He returns home, finding chaos, Tanjiro and Senjuro running up to him freaking out. Tanjiro is beat up (he was trying to defend Senjuro and Giyuu) and Senjuro is crying hysterically about how he wasn’t supposed to tell but he’s scared their dad is going to kill Tomioka. Kyo kicks down the door to see his lover and his father, his father with one hand around Tomioka’s neck, the other pouring sake on him just to be a dick, Tomioka with his yukata loose, revealing injuries and marks, with a small blade in his hand just managing to hold the former hashira back.

Imagjne Kyo snapping, moving faster than light to sweep Giyuu into his arms and rush them all away to the butterfly mansion. Kocho treats the kids first, and so Kyojuro just starts cleaning Giyuu up and begs him to tel him why he let this happen to himself.

Giyuu asks him, irritated, ‘why did you?’

Like Kyojuro was used to letting his dad hurt him so he would hurt Senjuro less, but he can’t stand Giyuu dealing with THIS for the same reason

Giyuu is like ‘look man. I’m strong. I can take it. I want you to be safe’ and Kyojuro is having a conniption like ‘Giyuu this is never what I would want or expect you to put up with and you know that’

Giyuu ‘it’s been a week. How long have you and Senjuro been dealing with your father for the sake of the other? Do you think Senjuro and Tanjiro and I like seeing you deal with your father for Senjuro’s sake? Just because you want to protect the weak doesn’t mean you have to be the one getting hurt instead’

Alright! So, that fic about that disastrous first day of school when Erin’s eight got me thinking: If Peg’s quietly enduring all that shit from the other moms to try to get her a good education, maybe she isn’t the only parent doing that. It’s possible Erin’s not the only kid who’s singled out for being “different,” and any other kid in a similar boat would probably reach out and try to make friends.

I started thinking about some solidarity happening in the aftermath of that, and I came up with a concept that you can absolutely take or leave: A physically disabled girl—I’ve been picturing, like, a limp—in Erin’s class/grade reaching out to make friends the next day, and the solidarity being instantaneous.

Again, there’s no pressure, feel free to take it or leave it—this plot bunny just wouldn’t leave me alone until I dropped it in your askbox, and (at least in my case, growing up) I feel like physically disabled/NT solidarity is a pretty common thing.

(And also the mental image of Erin bringing this kid home for a play date—and said kid immediately imprinting upon Hawkeye because A: he’s a cool, funny adult, and B: he’s like Erin, which means all three of them have a little in common—is both hilarious and fluffy as hell. Just—I could totally see him slowly amassing a gaggle of adoptive kids with every new friend Erin makes.)

[Context: Erin saw this boy being knocked around by some classmates and told her teacher, who broke it up, but the classmates shoved her into the mud as retaliation for 'trying to get them in trouble']

"Do you need help?" someone asks, and Erin freezes because she does not know if they are only waiting to be mean or not. She stays silent, and they sigh. "You do. Come on, I can get the mud out."

She doesn't really want to go with them, but she knows that the bathroom is the right next step anyway, so she follows, tense with anticipation for what they might spring on her.

But the boy only checks that the bathroom is empty before pulling her inside, turning on the sink, and examining the stains on her sleeves critically.

"It'll be easier if you take it off," he says, but Erin shakes her head fast. The last time someone asked her to take off her sweater so that they "could take a look at it", they had run off and hid it. The teacher said that maybe it was good that she took a break from it for a while, and only made the other kids give it back when Erin started crying so hard she almost made herself sick.

The boy shrugs, and pulls Erin over to stick her whole arm under the running water, carefully scrubbing at the fabric with his fingers, and it reminds Erin of Hakweye - the way he washes her sweater and his robe together in the sink, as gentle as possible to keep the fabric from all wearing out.

"I have to wash the mud outta my pants all the time when they push me," the boy explains suddenly, startling Erin with the sound of his voice. "My mom would get so mad if I let them all stain."

That's when Erin recognizes him. "You are the boy they were kicking," she says.

He winces - "Sorry," he mumbles. "Does it bother you that a homo's the one washing your clothes?"

Erin thinks of Hawkeye. "No," she says, but doesn't elaborate. She understands her parents' secret even more now, and this boy might be kind, and he might even be the same, but Erin doesn't know him enough to trust him. "My name is Erin," she adds belatedly.

"I'm Danny."

So let's start with the blurb.

Enoki had a simple life of trying new foods, cooking, and showing what ze learned on hir blog. While trying a new dish, ze suddenly found out ze was deathly allergic to the main ingredient. Luckily for hir, the gods had a need for such a person. Gifting hir a new shapeshifting body, the gods set Enoki on a quest. Find the ingredients for and cook the dishes for the Godly Feast before time runs out. Succeed and gain blessings for the races whose dishes are well represented. Fail, and watch as everyone is destroyed.

That's right. Enoki is non binary and uses Neo pronouns. And I decided to do a few things with this story. First of all, I wanted food to stay the world because I love cooking. So I am also including recipes every 5 ish updates. I'll try to have it connect to food that was eaten or shown recently of course but, I mean. The Stardew Valley cookbook exists for a reason.

Next, Enoki is going to collect various people as ze goes along. Originally I was seeing this as a drama with food. But then someone pointed out I was writing a comedy.

Don't get me wrong I love comedies but like, I didn't think I could write them. So I'm pretty sure my brain tricked me. Because my logic was even "Oh I'll make it drama. Like Dragonball!"

Yes. I know it's comedy. My brain tricked me. It's good at that. Better than a panic attack at least!

Anyway, so Enoki is going to visit a total of 8 races. Each of them I'm trying to put my own twist on them. So the Elves are good with booze and known for being party animals. They also have glamor because they are elrich horrors. Well... part horrors. The orcs are blue with red speckles and red hands that looks like blood. So they are not as violent as people think, tho how they hunt animals and such freaks people out. Gnomes have mushrooms attached to their heads. Goblins are responsible for fermented, pickled, and preserved foods because they live in tunnels that stay nice and cool.

And there are no Shapeshifters. So Enoki is kinda a freak of nature as ze runs around trying to get peoples holy and cursed items to make food from. Why do the gods want this? They have reasons!

I also am having fun actually addressing things that get ignored in isekais. Like the person never seems to miss home. Or get home sick.

Guess what? Enoki misses home. But also doesn't want people to die out.

- in times like these he will need a lot of reassurance and comforting, but in return he will provide that same reassurance that the issue was not with anything you had done

- pet his hair and call him pretty and he might start to feel better. tell him how special he is to you and how you’d never abandon him over something so menial

Except that Danny attacks first and ruthlessly in (not a complete list, because I watched the series practically just once and I need to rewatch it. I may add others later):

Bitter Reunions, literally the first time they met, Danny starts it, attacking a non-threatening ghost who is literally in his own house (there's always that gif of him going around, were Danny is like "oh no, I don't want to fight!", but he actually attacked Vlad two times before noticing that Vlad is too strong for him, and only then begs him to stop, probably because he's rightfully scared. Then Vlad proceeds to beat him senseless).

Masters of All Time (he first refuses to help Vlad who is literally sick and going to die and then, when he's very weak at the end of the episodes, he beats him up and throws him away. Danny beats up a weak guy who still is recovering)

Reign Storm, where even the episode here underlines how Danny attacks first. "Sneak attack, very good, Daniel". Vlad was resting against a car and Danny broke a streetlight to literally attack him in the dark (so that Valerie can't see him doing it).

An Eye for an Eye (in which the attack is not personally against the physical person of Vlad, but he sents to his home the GIW, who destroy it. What if they found out he was a ghost? WHAT IF, DANNY? And also, stupid senseless pranks).

A Glitch in Time (where Vlad is just begging for help, on his knees, damaged and beaten after the encounters with Clockwork and Dark Danny, and all the kids start beating him, electrocuting him and stuff. Vlad doesn't throw a single punch back).

Special notes:

In the Ultimate Enemy, is the ghost of Danny Phantom (not Danny Fenton itself, tho) who splits Vlad in half, extracting the ghost from him, and then assimilating Plasmius to become Dark Danny. Definitely an unprovoked attack... and despite what Vlad says about danny adsorbing his "evil ghost", we see Danny Phantom overshadowing a not-moving, probably unconscius Plasmius (we checked, he doesn't make a single movement and his eyes are closed), and then overriding him completely.

My theory is that Danny attacks Vlad both for defending himself or when he thinks that he's weak (a bit of a cowardly behavior, must add). He's scared by the idea of confronting him when he's in full power, that's why in Torrent of Terror he doesn't fight back: he knows he would be defeated in 0.2 seconds. Every single time that Vlad is serious about the fight, for him is pretty easy to defeat Danny. But yeah, usually he isn't, he's like those big tigers that fake being scared by cubs to teach them how to ambush preys and to boost their self-esteem.

Their relationship is complicated and they can't stop beating each other, apparently, but Danny is definitely no saint and he often does totally not-heroic stuff. And that's right! He's just fourteen, he's learning, he's traumatized and in need of help (and mentorship) and I like my characters like this: nuanced.

Anyway, this is just my point of view! Your interpretation is totally valid, if you want to see it like this, I just wanted to add some context to it (and some of my personal thoughts).

This is one scene from ¨Torrent of Terror¨ that stands out to me for some reason. I think it is the way that Danny is in a battle stance but when Vlad approaches him and doesn't try attacking him, Danny changes his posture to a relaxed one and listens to what Vlad has to say. In response Vlad's angry face changes into something different (surprised? confused?) and then asks Danny for his help.

Maybe because it shows that if Vlad isn't doing anything bad nor Danny is looking to fight him... they wouldn't just normally attack each other? They would continue doing whatever they were doing and ignore each other. Maybe they would just throw insult but not much else.

I don't know. I just found interesting.

This Week in BL - Japan WINS

July 2022 Wk 1

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying the most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Triage (grey) Ep 9-11 - I got caught up! Finally we switched POV to Tol. I’ve been waiting for this. Also more time with the side characters - who knew Sing is a total badass, and a great actor? I guess it’s OK that Tin is mostly absent or in a coma. One of the greatest things about this drama is that all of the characters are complex but not necessarily likable more pleasingly flawed. TinTol give a great mutual kiss. (Look some of us have been waiting 5 years for it!) Episode 10 Slayed me! The twist on the person fixing the timeline was very clever. Jinta = The ultimate BL Shipper: turns back time so his boys can be cannon. Also teaching Tol a lesson in forgiveness and communication.This is a CLEVER show. 

Love Mechanics (Sun WeTV) Ep 3 - My messy cheeky drama-llama boys are back in spades. I’m enjoying this more than I should. It’s crazy to compare to Check Out because they are basically the same premise airing at the same time, but LM is just SO MUCH better. YinWar sheesh, why so good? Seriously tho, Vee you bisexual identity crisis is going to break this poor little gay boy, you georious flirty cheating fucker.  

Unforgotten Night (Weds on GaGa) Ep 3 - boring ep this week, nothing happened, not even one leathery whiff of BDSM, this is my sad face. TRASH WATCH REBORN!

Sky in Your Heart (Fri YouTube) Ep 6 - How they managed to make aggressive courting, one of my favorite tropes, still boring defeats me. That said: sick and needy Dao was cute. Meanwhile, Prince is an actual prince, who saw that coming? Everybody. Their kisses are sweet, tho. Having 2 faen fatals for Prince is a bit much, I mean I like both actors but...

Thai linguistics corner: If you want to hear frozen register spoken, that’s what Prince’s maa speaks to tease Fah in this ep.

On a different note I think both these shows would have been VASTLY improved by cutting each set back to 6 eps each and then cross cutting between the two couples like the Why R U? or Dark Blue Kiss approach with 12 eps total. Just call the whole thing Star & Sky. Each couple would have been less boring and frustrating if focus were split, and the pacing would have been a lot better too.  Why do I have to tell GMMTV how to do their fucking job? 

Even Sun (Wed iQIYI) Ep 2 - the language is fun in this one (they too switched to chan/nai so I’m guessing it’s and organized crime thing), the cast is excellent, the boxers mildly interest me (no, not that kind) and BounPrem’s chemistry is unmatched, but... I still don’t like it. *shrug* 

Check Out (Sat IQIYI) Ep 5 - Candy is THE MOST confusing character. But this show is just messy, it’s not even hot. Sigh. 

My Secret Love (Sat YouTube Sat) Ep 6 - honestly I only still watch this because I have a checklist of bad BLs to get through on Saturday before I post this and this is on it. It did get sexy more and faster than I was expecting.  

Oh My Sunshine Night (?) - Ep 1 I admit I didn’t try very hard to find this. OhmFluke are one of my original biases, but honestly this looks to be yet another one of their serious+sad+meaty ones. While I love that they are handed high drama (because they are one of the few Thai pairs that can legitimately handle it) it’s not what I enjoy in my BL. I might wait until I know how it ends and binge later? Not sure what to do here. 

For me, most of the Thai stuff is pretty lackluster right now. 

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Minato Shouji Coin Laundry (Japan Weds GaGa) Ep 2 - oh it is GREAT but I spent the scallop scene upset about the one left on the grill turning rubbery. Beautiful 17-year-olds are all very well and good but don’t fucking overcook seafood! Shin is the most aggressive flirt ever. Baby boi is persistent, gotta give him that. Minato is gonna have to hurt him bad to cut him lose. I don’t want that but this is Japan, they will probubly go there, don’t get comfy - never forget Japan’s brand is, in the end, emo. 

JAPANESE LINGUISTIC CORNER: I gotta say one of the things I am LOVING about this drama is that gaga is giving us names+honorifics in the captions. Shin call’s Minato-san appropriately but Minato runs the gamut. I mean he fucked up from the get go going so casual with Shin he dropped not just to no honorifics but to a nickname. To be fair, with a 10 year age gap Minato can do whatever he wants, but also Minato kinda gave Shin license to crush with such casual informal affection from the start. (The fact that Shin saved Minato in his phone as Akira though - boy’s got balls fursure.) But it’s Minato jumping between Shin, Shin-kun (annoyed and/or formal distancing) and Shin-chan (childish and demeaning) in some sort of desperate attempt to grapple with his own feelings that I love SO MUCH. Honestly, this is like a master class in use of Japanese honorifics from all angles and as an intimate part of narrative. I can’t wait to see what Minato calls Shin next...  

Senpai, Danjite Koidewa! (Japan Fri Viki) Ep 3 - look, I admit it, like SCOY this dynamic (super awkward pining uke) is one of my least favorites - high cringe factor. I prefer a pining seme for power differential reasons. I mean this dynamic has been done okay (see the yaoi Desire) but only really when the seme is a bumbling sunshine himbo type. This one is just painfully awkward and cringey. I’m sticking it out though, because I can’t fault Japan’s quality, moot pining is better than single sided, plus it got HELLA kinky allasudden (that submissive fantasy in A TEMPLE?). Okay so there is a priest kink, this is the first time I have seen a version of that in a BL. Everyone say “thank you Japan for slipping more kink into this dumb office set sweet romance than Thailand’s billed BDSM drama has in its little finger.”  

Love in Spring AKA Spring of Crush (Korea grey) Ep 14 Oh it is not good but also weirdly fun in an old-fashioned way, like Hercules or Xena level of acting and quality. I understand it ends as either bromance or there’s no/dead fish kiss. So my expectations are really low. Want to See You (Vietnam YT) Ep 6 - I’m behind, I’ll get caught up tomorrow. Talk to @heretherebedork about it. 

Plus & Minus (Taiwan Viki & Gaga) Spe 13 SPECIAL - Drunken husbands after the wedding was very cute, then there were some flashbacks and an odd cross dressing dream. It’s fine if you want more time with the main couple, but doesn’t add anything to the story. Not necessary to watch. The rest of the “eps” are actually just bts. (full review here) 

Finished this Week

Old Fashion Cupcake (Japan Mon Viki) Ep 5fin - I very much loved this, but I found ep 5 a tiny bit of a let down. It reverted back to pretty standard light Japanese live action yaoi, of the style I talk about here. I did expect a bit more intimacy from this one: at least showing the two of them cuddling in bed together or something super domestic, if not kissing. I get why they brought it back around to pancakes but this is me, I wanted more sexy. I wanted to see Togawa’s thirst satiated. I’m not surprised or upset, this is still an amazing, comforting, unexpected gem of a show, but it’s not the 10/10 I thought it was going to be at the end of 4. Solid & watchable. 9/10 Full review here. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED 

KinnPorsche (Sat iQIYI) Ep 14fin - FINAL THOUGHTS: VegasPete were in one drama; KimChay were in another; KinnPorsche were in each of those randomly but then sometimes in their own extremely slapstick cheese-fest alt-reality + Tankhun. There were clearly 2 directors with 2 distinct and conflicting points of view, who apparently never had a single conversation with each other. Was this show good? Nope. Was it absorbing as fuck? Sure. Was it well acted, absolutely. Were the sex scenes great? Yes. We the fight scenes awesome? Actually yeah (special props to Jeff for the hand-to-hand stuff). Did I enjoy the kinky bits? Certainly. But all that said: the VegasPete universe of KP was the only universe I really enjoyed and would like to revisit, and I only got that 1/5 of the time. Thus mathematics dictates that I, at least, am still waiting for the perfect mafia BL. I think it might be up to Japan at this juncture. Gevn fan fervor, I don’t really know how to judge this show but I have to go with my heart, and KP didn’t win it. 7/10 No full review here on tumbr but I did post one to MDL. RECOMMENDED WITH RESERVATIONS (some of them around the fandom) 

To My Star 2 (Korea Viki) Ep 9-10fin - this was never going to be my favorite, too much pain, not enough payout but there IS payout and it does end happily, the finale was lovely. Did they talk enough for me to think they won’t still have problems - no. But for some it really worked. 7/10 Full Review here (I just updated my original TMS review, since the two must be watched together). RECOMMENDED WITH SERIOUS RESERVATIONS

GMMTV is doing *something* with the holy trinity (SingtoKrist, TayNew, OffGun - yes Singto is back, although he hasn’t rejoined the stable) + the scions (BrightWin). They’re being uninformatively annoyingly secretive about it and I don’t do weird Thai promo stuff. But it’s on their YT channel.  

Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) to star in the upcoming WaGa Creative's medical-fantasy Thai BL, Make A Wish. Has had a read through, no trailer yet. 

New Thai BL End of Love announced based on a y-novel of the same name, cast with unknowns. 

China rumored to be doing a bromance remake of Addicted Heroin as My Family Won the Lottery where our boys have girlfriends and just SOMEONE STOP THEM. 

One of my absolute favorite Japanese BL actors Hio Miyazawa (from His the movie) is rumored to be taking on the lead role in the movie adaptation of Makoto Takayama’s autobiographical novel Egoist to be released 2023. He’ll be opposite super famous actor Ryohei Suzuki. This is about an openly gay but vein and superficial man (Hio) who falls in love with a personal trainer (Ryohei) who is stuck taking care of his sick mother. It’s not BL, it’s gay coming of age and we can’t expect it to end happily. Still, I’ll probubly try to watch it. Japanese movies are notoriously difficult to get ahold of, tho.

That’s also a pretty interesting assumption, and honestly - I kind of agree ! He’d always have a hand on your waist or lower back, he’d always have you close by enough so he could touch your hand with his pinky just to get some gratification while he’s busy trying to look like a menacing leader. When you’re alone together, it’s so much worse. Good luck trying to get him to leave you alone, he’s not going to stop clinging onto your back.

His favourite - wrapping his arms around you from behind and resting his chin over your shoulder. He likes holding your back flush against his chest, loves how close you both feel. He’d never admit that, of course. He probably also likes you sitting by his side or on his lap while he’s doing paperwork, especially when you fall asleep with your head on his chest/shoulder. It means you feel safe with him, the ultimate show of vulnerability with someone like him - a ruthless monster, in the eyes of some.

When you’re both sleeping, he tries not to cuddle you but half way through the night, he’s draped over you. He holds you to his chest; whether it was your back against it or your head resting on it, he’s holding you close. I can see him burying his face in your shoulder or neck when he’s really tired. He feels safe with you if you manage to get him to sleep.

When you try to call him out on it, he’ll either act offended or brush it off with a scoff. “Why would I ever want to touch you?” He’s a little mean but you can tell he’s just teasing. (Especially when he grabs your hand and intertwines your fingers as soon as he says it)

You’re right, Scara really does want to skip all the mushy, deep talks or the flowery compliments. Actions speak louder than words, and his actions tell you one thing - he is hopelessly head over heels in love with you. Completely smitten.

OMG I HAVE A IDEA can u do Osamu, kuroo, sakusa with a S/o who is drunk and when the haikyuu character tries to help her/ take care of her she’s like “I have a boyfriend” and acts defensive even tho he is her bf? (Idk if this makes sense but I think it’s so cute)

Osamu

You were our celebrating your promotion with your work colleagues, unfortunately Osamu had to work late at his shop and couldn't make it for the beginning, only coming in near the end. Your friends had decided to start working their way through the cocktail menu and by the time he arrived you were pretty much away with with fairies.

"Babe, why did ya drink so much? Yer gonna be hungover as hell tomorrow."

Osamu sighed as he half carried and half manoeuvred you to the car. By the time he arrived, you were on your 12th drink and he had to grab you off the table and fling you over his shoulder before you started a dance party.

"Excuse me, you... are v'ry pretty...but I have a boyfriend. He's g'na kick your butt."

Osamu snorted as you pointed your finger in his face. Your eyes were closed as you walked and you were carrying your shoes in your hand. The jacket to your suit was slung over his arm as you both walked and he held your handbag in his hand. He couldn't help but laugh as he saw you now, this morning you had looked all put together as you left for work with your hair pinned up and suit pristine. While you looked gorgeous even now, the tidy professional had been replaced with a messy drunkard.

"Really now? Well, I just wanna make sure ya safe. I'll drive ya home to yer boyfriend. Okay?"

You sighed dreamily, leaning into him as you waved your arms around. "'Samu is so lovely. So handsome... he works so... so... hard too." You straightened and pointed your finger in his face, mood now fierce. "But! He's v'ry strong too. He used to be a volleyball player. I miss him wearing those shorts. His ass looked so good."

You held one hand up in front as if squeezing something and your boyfriend couldn't help but shake his head. He had to force himself not to laugh at your words as he put you in the car. Buckling you in, he cushioned your head on your discarded jacket and stroked your hair behind your ear. Your eyes had drifted closed, head lolling on the window as he drove you both back home. As the streets drove by, he could see you from he corner of his eyes. You looked so cute and peaceful propped up on the door and he couldn't help but reach over and caress you face.

As he peered over from the corner of his eyes, he couldn't help but smile at how fierce you defended yourself. He knew you'd never stray, you weren't the type to cheat on him. You were still mumbling about your 'boyfriend' in your drunken haze when you both got home.

As he tucked you into bed, placed some painkillers and a bottle of water on your cabinet. Removing your skirt and tights, he placed them in the wash before pulling down your bra and hanging it on the wardrobe. He knew you would complain in the morning about having wires poking you in the chest. As he climbed into bed, he felt your arms curl around him as you settled onto his chest, your hands patting his ass.

"So pretty 'Samu."

Kuroo

It was your birthday and you were our celebrating with your friends at a local bar. The whole thing had been a surprise, with a huge cake and the venue booked out for the whole night. Between the food and cake, you had drunk your body weight in alcohol while dancing with your friends.

"Tetsuro, come and take your girlfriend home. She's falling asleep."

Glancing at you, he saw your head flop onto the bar as you sat with girlfriends. The shoes you came in had now been discarded on the floor next to you and your hair was down from the ponytail you had put it in. He walked over and scooped you up bridal style.

"Put me down!"

Your words were accompanied by a smack on his arms as he put you into his car. Kuroo laughed as you tried to struggle out his grasp, wiggling to get out.

"My boyfriend is gonna beat you up."

"I'm sure he is kitten".

"Don't call me that. Let go of me!"

Shaking his head, Kuroo opened the back door and slowly put you in, trying his hardest not to smack your head on the roof of the vehicle. Something that proved difficult when you started to move around again.

Bending down and leaning on the door, he reached across and tied your seat belt.

"Look. Let me get you home safely and you can go see your boyfriend ok? I'll even call him now."

You held your pinky finger up to him. "Promise?"

He shook his head and matched his finger to yours, curling it and touching thumbs as you always did. "Promise." Watching as you nodded your head, he closed the door and drove you home, the journey itself was interesting as you kept shouting at him. Tell him he was going the wrong way (he wasn't), telling him you were hungry (he grabbed you some fries and chicken nuggets) and then telling him he was being a pervert for looking at you in the rear view mirror (which he totally was, obviously).

Parking the car and carrying you inside, he shook his head as you started stripping off between the front door and the bedroom, complaining it was too hot. As he trailed after you, he picked up your dress and bra from the floor and put them in the washing basket. Reaching the bedroom, he saw you flat on your face passed out asleep on the bed, looking adorable as hell.

"Baby."

You groaned at him, swatting him away.

Rummaging through his drawers, he grabbed a t shirt and held you up to pull it over your head. While you were hot now, he was well aware that you would be cold in the middle of the night, your feet often blocks of ice as you slept in bed.

Pulling the sheet down the bed around you, he put you in bed and climbed in after you. Immediately you latched onto him, arms and legs tangled with his almost pushing him off the bed.

"Baby, we're gonna fall out the bed."

"I love you Tetsu."

"Love you too kitten."

Sakusa

Sakusa wasn't fond of going out much, it was too loud and everyone was drunk. He didn't like being here and really wanted to go home but you had organised a party for him celebrating his win at Nationals and he didn't want to upset you.

Most of the night had been okay, you had invited a sufficient number of people and chosen a restaurant he approved of. The dress you wore was beautiful, something you had bought with him a few weeks ago. Looking over, he couldn't help but smile seeing how your face lit up when you waved across the room at him. He knew people looked at him odd, you were the opposite of him in every way. Where he was quiet and reserved, you were bubbly and cute, something he loved about you. No matter how you were feeling, you were always positive and smiling.

By the time it got to 1am, Sakusa realised that he hadn't seen you for a while. He had been sitting with his teammates, under your explicit instructions to socialise, but he couldn't see you anywhere. Excusing himself, he walked around to see you chugging champagne from the bottle as you sat in the corner of the bar, your bare feet were swinging and you had discarded your jacket.

"Honey, you're going to be sick."

"Mmm. Nope."

"Honey." He tried to reach over and take the bottle from you, knowing very well that you would be hungover as hell tomorrow. Champagne and you for some reason didn't end well.

"My boyfriend says it's ok."

For a second, Sakusa stopped and then realised what had happened.

"It's me, love. Kiyoomi. Your boyfriend."

You peered at him, eyes narrowed as you scanned him from head to toe. He looked like your boyfriend. Was dressed like your boyfriend. But why would he be here? Omi hated stuff like this.

"My Omi would never come here. He doesn't like places like this."

Shaking his head, he wiped his hand down his face and stepped closer to you. "Your Omi was forced to come here by his girlfriend. And unfortunately he has a huge soft spot for loud and pushy girlfriends."

You shook your head vehemently. "Nuh uh."

Sighing, Sakusa pried the bottle way from your hands and placed it on the bar away from you. Grabbing you by the hips, he tugged you down and picked up your shoes before helping you to the car. Kiyoomi hadn't drunk much, he didn't like the feeling of being out of control especially in public, so he knew he would be driving you both home.

Placing you in the car and driving you home, he helped you up the stairs and put you carefully on the sofa as he locked the doors and checked everything before opening the covers on the bed for you. When he returned back to the living room, you had fallen asleep with your head back.

"Tsk you're going to hurt your neck that way, love."

Picking you up bridal style, he placed you on the bed before having a quick shower. Not wanting to dirty the clean sheets, he took your tights and dress off before pulling one of your tops over your head. Taking your hair down, something that would annoy you otherwise, he turned off the lights and pulled you close.

"Omi..." You mumbled into his chest.

"Yes, love?"

"This guy tried to hit on me. But I told him I had a boyfriend. He left me alone after that." You nuzzled closer and Kiyoomi smiled as he thought back. "Bet he knew who you were. My strong boyfriend." You patted his chest lovingly.

"Good night love."
