Hello darling, I did my best with this! This series is relatively new for me so I did what I could for a Gojo reader.
-You were known for being rather a gremlin around Valhalla, being laid back, not taking anything seriously, which gave you several people who were mad at you.
-Almost always smiling, carefree in nature, you were easy to get along with when you weren’t pissing people off.
-However, there was something about you, many could sense it, but some chose not to believe it, that you were way stronger than you were letting on. They could sense a power within you, something that made you very dangerous.
-When Ragnarok was announced, you were all for a good fight, a bright smile on your face, ready for a challenge, really wanting to let loose, sense it had been years since you had gotten that chance to go wild.
-You were quickly disappointed however, when you chose to fight first, to open the tournament with a bang! You were paired against Chernabog, a massive deity of evil and destruction.
-Chernabog wanted nothing to do with the tournament and had to be dragged out by other gods, all who were blown head over heels, easily defeated.
-You scowled lightly as you approached, and Zeus shouted, “Idiot, what makes you think you can handle him?!”
-You smirked up at him, reaching up to pull your blindfold off, “No worries Zeusy~ after all, you all are weak!”
-Instead of being furious with your arrogance, many were instantly stunned as you whole face was revealed, your eyes were like looking at the cloud filled blue sky and starlight mixed together, they were beautiful!
-You crossed your fingers and in only a moment, Chernabog was dead, torn to pieces and you were up on the wall to the stadium, like you had teleported, a slightly bored look on your face, “Man, I was hoping to show off~”
-Had no idea you were that powerful- they knew you were powerful, that’s a given, but to see how easily you took care of one of the oldest and strongest gods out there in only a moment, it was very humbling. To you, it was more than a moment, as you and Chernabog went into your Domain Expansion where you teased him for being caught so easily and when he tried to attack, you attacked, but to everyone else, it was only seconds. They were quickly way more curious about you than before, wondering how truly powerful you actually were and wondering why you hid such beauty- you were stunning, why hide it?
-Zeus, Odin, Hermes, Shiva, Jack, Brunnhilde, and Aphrodite
-Was stunned stiff by your power, seeing how quickly you handled business, and you made it look easy! You won your match in only seconds, not even breaking a sweat and you were complaining that you didn’t get to show off! How powerful were you?! He wanted to find out, he wanted to test his own combat strength against your own, feeling antsy for a fight!
-Thor, Lu Bu, Raiden, Hercules, Ares, Beelzebub, Kojiro, and Rudra
-That was amazing!! You were so fast and handled Chernabog so quickly! How did you do that?! And was curious why you always wore a blindfold when you were so pretty, not understanding why you were hiding such beauty.
-Chen Gong, Zerofuku, Adam, and Eve
-You were so stunningly beautiful, how on earth did he not realize you were so beautiful?! He knew you were strong, that’s a given, and you were a pain in the ass when you wanted to be, but your skills could back your arrogance up. Seeing your power on full display was rather intimidating but also humbling, you were a human, but your power could handle anyone in Valhalla, gods or humans. He was a bit more curious about why you hid your beauty, wanting to seek you out to demand an answer, such perfection should never be hidden!
-Loki, Buddha, Hades, Poseidon, Nikola, and Qin Shi Huang

Fem!19days AU
Basically everything is the same but the main 4, she li, buzzcut and Xiao Hui are girls
Also a lot less physical fights. If 19 days is action, then fem!19days is a psychological thriller🤡 The chain accident still happens though, don't you worry, there is still a lot of suffering
He Tian - He Tai.
The girl prince of the school. A mix between Utena and Jury from revolutiinary girl Utena, if you will. Despite being known for being good at sports, prefers to hide her physique to not cause suspicions. She is just a spoiled rich girl that totally doesn't come from a mafia family, afterall. Fights with She Li happen less publicly. Tai has a fanclub consisted both out of boys and girls. He Cheng is more present in her life than in canon. He personally teaches Tai how to fight and trains her regulary. She also knows how to use a gun and has one with her all the time, just in case (like threatening loansharks that attacked your girlfriend). Cheng became very protective over Tai after their mother's death. Tai doesn't like it and thinks he is paranoid.
Mo Guan Shan - Mo Gong Shuang.
Shuang is an unwilling punk. Her bright appearance, dubious acquaintances and a father in prison gave her no chance at staying in the shadows. Especially after having to shave her temples because of an injury. Mo and She Li met the same way as in canon. However, their relationship is less outwardly hostile than in canon. Shuang thinks of She Li as her close friend. Empathy is a bitch sometimes. They have that iconic toxic teen girl friendship a la Jennifer's body or smth like GingerSnaps. Not as much codependent, but Mo still feels indebted to She Li. Shuang is still easily aggravated and distrustful but kind and caring at the same time. She works part time and fights at school. I'm not sure how Mo's and Jian's conflict would start in this version. Maybe Jian says something that Shuang doesn't like, they start arguing, it escalates and Zhan ends up with her head bashed into a wall. Jian is a chatterbox, so her words might've been careless or just misunderstood. Later comes He Tai with her "disciplinary" measures. Physical violence is not as brutal as in the original, but still present. The forcefull kiss also still happens. The school scandal will probably change from rape allegations to murder allegations. A redhaired girl was caught on camera. Maybe she is from She Li's gang and also rich.
She li - still She Li, since it's a nickname. She is studying at an all girls school, because it would be hard to built a gang in a mixed school when you are a girl. You know, because no one really takes you seriously. More reasons to take your frustruation out on your underlings! How does she know about everything that happens to Mo? Buzzcut, who is in the same school as Shuang. Later She Li starts to attend Mo's school.
Bonus adult Tai and Shuang designs

I dunno if you still participate in the brutally honest ship thing but brutally honest ship thoughts on Chad and Jane and Shuang x Jordan?
I didn't know it was a thing, but it seems funny and I'll answer anyway ;)
Chad x Jane
Not really a ship I can see happening. They'd work nicely as former childhood friends but then something went wrong with him and he left Jane behind as most of the fandom thinks of them as.
BUT! I have this headcanon that Cinderella doesn't get along with her Fairy Godmother anymore since FG supported - if not suggested - the idea of the Isle and the eternal punishment while Cinderella, who is a forgiving soul, would have preferred more leniency.
That said, Jane and Chad were never close at all, not even as children and Chad was too superficial to even see Jane or notice she existed and I can't really see them work in any way. Jane becomes too practical and competent to put up with someone like Chad and he'd need to grow out of his superficiality for even to just be friends.
Shuang x Jordan
From the little we know about either, they'd make a nice pair. Jordan strikes me as someone strong-willed and very bright, Shuang as kind and empathic so he'd likely get her and her troubles (her magic being restricted, her fears of being trapped or used) and make her feel safe, while she could appreciate his goofy ways and the way he can be lighthearted or serious if the situation requires. I also see them as very good dance partners idk why, they just strike me as that kind of couple.

Geese in the sky
Pixel art for today based on videogame Shuang Ying for game console Nes. This game also has another title – Twin Eagle. It is 2d flying action. I am also a fan of this kind of games. But I have never played in certain this game.
And this is my pixel art based on this theme. Take attention to bright colors. It is a bright everything. Colors of the sky. It is kind and peace. You are playing for some kind animal. For example, as flying geese. Geese is flying bird. And it is peaceful bird. So common and go to fly! Fly, Fly! And everybody is taking fun in such kind pseudo 8 bit style game. But it is only a drawing.
Geese is playing in competition with other birds. To fly for the island. And he needs to overtake some levels. Ocean, different sky. You will see flying to you quails. And also, there are other opponents. You are shooting at them with something like paintball weapon. Small circles with no harm at all. This means opponents leave the game. And you need to avoid opponent’s shooting. And everything can go for 8 bit funny music.

Emperor by Otaku [End + Side Story]
They have also tried to collect a few planets on the road, but the power of the corpse God is not as good as that of the holy king God tree. The law pulls these planets formed by the great emperor and the star power, and theimportant thing. The Venerable Taohu murmured, "If you leave here, you can either return by the way of Shengjundong Mansion to fight against the three prohibitions, or you can leave in throus manner. The Jade Lady showed a trace of nervousness. The True Dharma Buddha laughed and said, "Don't worry, Jade Lady. This time we will only punish others, eradicate the devil,Gear Reduction Motor, and return heaven and earth to a bright universe. Your love is only coerced by the devil. Naturally, we will not hurt your love." Lady Yu breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "I wonder what the devil the Buddha was talking about?" "All but your love are devils!" The true Dharma Buddha controlled the corpse God and forced Jiangnan and the others to go. He said with a smile, "Evil spirits are outsiders. If they don't listen to enlightenment, naturally everyone will have to punish them." Suddenly, a magic light was shining like a pillar, and the mighty magic power filled the world. The faces of the true Buddha and others changed dramatically. They shouted angrily and urged the corpse God to resist with all their strength,Planetary Gear Motor, only to hear a loud bang. The holy king's corpse God was trembling constantly by this magic light, and his whole body was broken one after another. Dozens of branches and leaves were broken! True Dharma Buddha, Mao yuangong, Li Shenweng and others were so shocked that their blood billowed, and it took them a long time to recover! "True Buddha, now you should know that Jiang and others are not soft persimmons, right?" The voice of Jiangnan came from afar, and the Buddha's eyes froze on Jiangnan, only to see Jiangnan and others standing on a treasure ship at the moment. The treasure ships are all over the gun ports. The magic light in the muzzle of one of the cannons was gradually extinguished. And there are hundreds of similar magic cannons. Let them be frightened to see! "Master Jiang, you are so powerful that you can get the hell warship in ancient times!" The True Dharma Buddha took a long breath and said in a deep voice, "The power of the Hell Demon Ship is limited. However, if you urge the Demon Light Cannon on the Demon Ship to destroy the gods, it will certainly greatly reduce your cultivation. With your cultivation, how many times can you urge it?" Jiangnan laughed. In high spirits, Small Geared Motors ,Brushless Gear Motor, he laughed loudly and said, "Several of us have made breakthroughs in our cultivation. Zhenyun senior has become a God in one fell swoop. Even if we can't urge the magic light cannon several times, we can't fire a hundred cannons at the same time, but we can fire dozens of casuddenly urges the hell warship to bombard us, I'm afraid we'll die.". With the character of this bad embryo, it can really be done! But after he swears to God, how much will affect his heart, so that he dare not act recklessly! The south of the Yangtze River looked hesitant, and the true Buddha said in his heart, "This bad embryo really considered plotting against us on the sacred tree. Fortunately, I was wise enough to anticipate the enemy and force him to swear!" Ou Zhendong, Shao Tianya and others secretly pinched a cold sweat and kept winking at Jiangnan. Jiang Nan was a little reluctant and said with a sneer, "Buddha, I swear to Heaven, and you must also swear to Heaven. Only in this way can it be considered fair.". Otherwise, we are all on the tree of God. If you lay hands on us, won't we suffer a great loss? "Then we all swear to God together!" True Dharma,Vending Machine Motor, Buddha Shuang Dao. Each of them swore to heaven. After swearing, Jiangnan received the empty treasure ship. Two groups of people slowly approached, and the true Buddha and others climbed the sacred tree. ichgearmotor.com

The NRTA Requests to Ban “Sissy” Men from TV
On September 16, 2021, China’s NRTA (National Radio and Television Administration), or the government body responsible for determining what airs and what does not, released a notice saying it was “determined to boycott the trend of Danmei adaptations”, also known as Dangai, among other things.
This is part of a sweeping motion by the Chinese government to “clean up” and reform various sectors including corporate giants like Tencent and Alibaba, technology, education, and the entertainment industry.
What you need to know to understand this “boycott” is that this year brought a great purge to the Chinese entertainment industry. Several famous and popular stars including Wu Yifan (Kris Wu), Zheng Shuang, Huo Zun, Zhang Zhehan (actor who interpreted Zhou Zishou in Word of Honor), and Zhao Wei (known for her hit drama My Fair Princess), etc… were embroiled in massive scandals.
Zheng Shuang was involved in a series of surrogacy (illegal in China), tax evasion, Ying-Yang contracts, and child abandonment scandals, Huo Zun accused of serial cheating, Wu Yifan was detained due to r*pe accusations, Zhang Zhehan was accused of being pro-imperial Japan after pictures of him visiting the infamous Yasukuni shrine resurfaced online, Zhao Wei’s name was scrubbed from the Chinese internet and disappeared for a while without reason, etc…
The main takeaway is that this year was not a good one in the Chinese entertainment industry.
To “cleanse” the entertainment industry, the NRTA, as well as other government agencies, released a series of regulations (Qinglang Campaign) to control obsessive fan behavior, promote good social values, socialism, putting a limit to how much money a celebrity can get paid in China, banning fundraising for birthday gifts and the like, banning idol audition survival shows, making idols responsible for their fans’ behavior, and promote a “correct beauty standard”. This last part is the controversial one that I will be focusing on.
What Danmei/Dangai fans need to know:
China introduced “morality guidelines” for TV broadcasters and private streaming companies.
No effeminate men, girly guns, little fresh meat, sissy idols and actors, and “abnormal aesthetics”.
This means that no idol or actor should be promoted that has a traditionally feminine appearance. For example, no long hair, bright colored hair, nail polish, earrings, excessive and notable makeup, no dresses, skirts, or overly feminine clothing, no mannerisms or gestures that are also considered traditionally feminine, etc…
The NRTA released a notice saying that it would be “boycotting (among other things) the trend of Danmei adaptations.
Some say that the reason why this happened is because of companies and capitalists jumping in the bandwagon to make Danmei adaptations after how incredibly popular and profitable they became while diluting core socialist values and saturating the market.
Others say that this is clearly an excuse to push for homophobic and sexist legislation.
When a genre of drama gets too popular in China, harems, court intrigue, time traveling, Danmei adaptations, etc, the NRTA comes in to stop it. An explanation they put out for this is so that the market does not become saturated with the same genre of dramas which can lower the quality of dramas in general.
Many Chinese people, particularly women, are outraged because the terms “effeminate” and “sissy” are thrown around as a negative adjective. They are asking why is a man exhibiting traditionally feminine mannerisms and appearance considered beneath one that is more masculine. Why is feminine qualities inferior and undesirable?
Others are asking who gets to determine what is feminine and masculine as well as how that is determined in the first place.
Feminizing terms such as “baby” and “wife” to refer to men (idols and/or actors) are banned when promoting dramas.
The most recent news is that the NRTA will introduce 3 rounds of reviews. This means that, in order for a drama to pass, it must be reviewed 3 times.
What Does This Mean for the Future of Danmei Adaptations?
Danmei adaptations have not been completely banned. However, expect to see less air per year and be scrubbed of noticeable “bromance” to the degree we saw in Word of Honor.
What the NRTA is concerned with is how popular that genre has become, how many Danmei adaptations are being made, the marketing that promotes same-sex CPs, the fan culture of Danmei works, and the feminization of the male actors.
Curve your expectations for how much chemistry you will be seeing in the future in Danmei adaptions, unless a production wants to be particularly risky, I doubt we will have anything close to what we had before in other adaptations.
We’ll just have to wait and see…
PD: this also affects real life LGBTQ+ people. I’m aware of that but since my blog is dedicated to BL, I wrote mostly regarding the influence it will have on Danmei adaptations and the genre itself. Of course, you are welcomed to take this post and write how it will affect real life people and leave your comments in the replies.

Review: 成化十四年 The Fourteenth Year of Chenghua
My third Meng Xishi novel~
Note(s):
(Very) long post ahead
Contains spoiler
This is my personal review and does not represent the entire audience
Summary:
During the ruling of Chenghua Emperor in the Ming Dynasty, political affairs were rife with conflicts and bitter rivalries between officials as multiple factions were fighting for their monarch's favor. The Emperor himself was a fickle man of superfluous personality, putting little focus on matters related to governing the country. Furthermore, his widely known bias towards his favorite consort, Consort Wan, allowed her wishes and preferences to affect imperial decisions, which became a weapon used by many corrupt officials to turn the tides in their favor.
In the fourteenth year of Chenghua, Tang Fan, a young and bright scholar, transferred from the prestigious Hanlin Academy to become a sixth-rank Judge in Shuntian Prefecture. During the investigation of an alleged murder of a nobleman's son, he noticed peculiarities in the seemingly simple case, yet his superior's incompetence pushed for the case to be wrapped up early as it was, which ended up drawing the attention of various contending factions among the higher-ups. Eager to establish their merits in front of the Emperor, investigation was reopened with each side itching to be the one to resolve it.
It was during this time that Tang Fan unexpectedly came across Sui Zhou, an aloof, tight-lipped seventh-rank personnel of the notorious Brocade Guard who was also tasked to delve into the matter.
Two people as different as heaven and earth, they ultimately worked together to discover the truth, not knowing that they would share countless moments of life and death in the line of duties.
STORY: 8/10
If I have to summarize my impression on this novel in one sentence, I would say "It pissed me off"......but not in a bad way.
Evil monsters and cruel villains made for fascinating antagonists, but more often than not, we may not be able to relate to them enough to actually hate them, because their characteristics are simply too far from reality.
However, selfish husbands, unfair in-laws, corrupt officials, cowardly men who readily abandoned all loyalty when cornered were something that we could find and see with our own eyes to these days. These people might not have as many kill counts as monstrous fictional villains, but their mere existence in a story could be so extremely annoying because we could easily relate to facing people like this in our every day's life.
And "The Fourteenth Year of Chenghua" is full of those people. In fact, all of the cases presented from start to finish are related to these very issues.
I haven't come across too many mystery/detective-historical-political stories before, but "The Fourteenth Year of Chenghua" should be one of the best I've read so far.
(my most favorite book of this theme so far is actually "Wu Shuang", which was also written by Meng Xishi, so... 😂)
The cases in the story were interesting and engaging, with the right amount of suspense, action, and intense elements to keep me on edge throughout the way. Especially because it kept dragging the main character into it, one couldn't help but want to root for him and see the resolution as soon as possible.
The story mixes political and social conflicts well into the plot and cases. While the main goal in the end was to clean up all the political conspiracies in the palace, many of the cases came from non-governmental people and/or ordinary family matters, but it doesn't make the story looks inconsistent. In fact, it becomes a set of stairs that the main character, Tang Fan, needed to climb in order to reach the final stage.
In regards to this, I would like to give kudos for the story's solid and detailed setting, both in the political and social aspects. It is evident that the author has done a lot of researches and is well-learnt about history. Even if us as the readers aren't familiar with how life was during the Ming dynasty, as well as the history of ancient China in general, the illustrations provided in the narrative are more than sufficient to at least give an overall picture of the circumstances.
Furthermore, the plot, conflicts, and characters all fit perfectly into this historical setting, not excluding the real historical figures who were present in the plot. Nevertheless, the way these explanations were presented in the narrative were often too lengthy, jam-packed all at once in between scenes and dialogues that it ended up disrupting the story flow, not to mention that these explanations were sometimes repetitive.
While I understand (and very much appreciate) every bit of information regarding the historical aspects since I DO need it, I wished the way it was presented could be more well-distributed instead of having a bunch of information being dumped just like that in a single section. Sometimes, because the explanations were too long, by the time they returned to the plot, I almost already forgot what the characters were talking about beforehand.
CHARACTER: 7/10
I love Tang Fan and Sui Zhou's dynamic. One is friendly, witty, and pleasant-looking while the other was stoic, strict, a man of very few words who wouldn't easily socialize with just anyone. However, inside they could both be opposite of their outer appearance.
Tang Fan appeared gentle on the surface, but he had a tough heart and strong principle, preferring to break rather than bend. As for Sui Zhou, though it was mostly reserved for those he cherished (Tang Fan being the most frequent receiver), he was actually quite soft-hearted and a very caring man. He could also be witty and smart in his teasing, something that he exclusively reserved for Tang Fan alone.
They were admirable when working together to chase after the truth, and at the same time they were adorable when the world finally gave them a time to rest for just the two of them.
In a sea of corrupt officials and selfish people who were only thinking for their own benefits, having main characters like Tang Fan and Sui Zhou were like a glimmer of hope that despite so many bad people ganging up together, dragging the country into ruin, there were still those who were genuinely determined to do good things and keep their conscience clear.
Even character like Wang Zhi, despite his original motive being wanting to achieve great things for himself, ended up learning that he could still obtain his goal without playing dirty like many others around him. Actually, his character development was one that I appreciated the most, especially after reading his struggles and background story in the extras.
That said, perhaps I'm being too skeptical, but I feel that characters like Tang Fan, Sui Zhou, and Wang Zhi are rather exaggerated and unrealistic in real life. Tang Fan, especially, is borderline flawless if not for the torrents of misfortunes befalling him due to being righteous. I honestly could not imagine any real person nowadays would insist as hard as they did in this story, let alone being extremely smart like Tang Fan who practically always had a solution for 90% of the current and future troubles.
But again, first of all this is fiction and secondly, if not for characters like them, who would stand against those selfish and corrupt villains in the story? Despite me saying that the characters being a bit unrealistic, I actually enjoyed seeing those three burning the bad guys whenever they could. 😂
I do not know what the author's motivation was when she decided to write this novel in the first place, yet I couldn't help but feel that it might stem from frustration towards corrupt government and injustice in families. Thus born a story where those insolent people were punished.
But of course, this is nothing more than my personal conjecture.
If I have to point one downside about the characterization, then similar to the way-too-lengthy-explanation mentioned above, there are also too many description on the characters' "character" that it left little room for readers to imagine, because the narrative already dictated that "this character is definitely this", "that character would obviously do that", etc.
Honestly, the placement and repetitions of these descriptions are actually one of the main reasons Tang Fan's character felt unrealistic because instead of discovering it on my own, I'm being choked full of dictations that I must perceive this character as such, allowing no opportunity for analysis.
TECHNICAL ASPECT: 7/10
Description of environments were clear and detailed to the point that I can almost visualize the scene in my head, including people's gestures and expressions.
The only complaint I have about it was probably the info-dump and repetitive explanation that I've already mentioned above.
OVERALL SCORE: 7.3/10
One of the greatest things about Meng Xishi's works that I've realized so far is that she always managed to tie everything nicely in the end, leaving no loose ends. The good ones were rewarded, the bad ones received retributions.
It's a long story and reading it would sometimes prove to be exhausting, but it is gratifying and deserve another re-read in the future (if I manage to find the time to do it).
I just wish there had been more sweet personal moments of Tang Fan and Sui Zhou because most of the time, they always ended up getting interrupted by other people and their works. xD

[CN] Gavin’s Returning from Afar Date (Eng Translation)
🍒 Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for a date, 远归之约, which has not been released in English servers! 🍒
[ This date was released in CN on 28 Sep 2020 ]
This is the 29th day of Gavin’s mission, and also the day he said he’d return.
As agreed, I’m in Gavin’s house to water Little Spiky. Since I’m already here, I also tidy up the place, which hasn’t been habited for a month.
MC: Mm, its rootstocks are healthy, the colour is lush and green, and it’s growing well. Now to put it under the sun.
I carry it to the window carefully, letting it soak in sunlight.
My line of sight lingers on the wind chimes hanging near the window. I reach out to pull at the crystal piece.
The bright and limpid crystal suddenly sends my consciousness back to the week before Gavin departed for the mission.
[ flashback ]
The afternoon wind blows the curtains upwards, brushing across the crystal shoes glittering on the floor.
If one were to ignore the slight scratch at the back, this would have been a perfect souvenir.
I squat on the floor, one hand holding the “main culprit” - the broom, and another hand gripping my phone, giving the manufacturer a call while feeling upset.
MC: Hello? I’m the person in charge of [MC’s Company Name]. We held an activity and ordered crystal shoes from your company. Do you still remember that?
Person in charge: Miss MC, right? I remember, I remember. Do you want to collaborate with us for another event?
MC: Ah, actually, one of the crystal shoes has a scratch on its back. I wanted to ask if it’s possible to fix it?
Person in charge: Hmm... Because of the way it was designed, that batch of crystal shoes were specially handled, so traditional restoration works won’t be effective. But since you’re a regular client of our company, we can send you a pair based on the address you gave us.
MC: ...no need for the trouble. Since it can't be restored, it’s fine. Thank you.
I hang up, a little disappointed.
In the midst of cleaning up, I had accidentally scratched the crystal shoes Gavin gave me the other time.
[Note] MC is referring to Gavin’s 2 Become 1 Date, which is available in EN.
Although the damage is slight, it’s not something I can just ignore.
While sighing, I store the crystal shoes back into the box, and place it in the cabinet.
At this moment, a low knocking sound resounds from the door.
When I open it, I see that the person standing at the door is Gavin.
Light and shadows are cast on his profile, illuminating his sharp and soft eyes.
Gavin: What are you busy with?
He walks in while speaking. Without him noticing, I prod the the box containing the crystal shoes further into the shoe cabinet.
MC: I was doing a cleanup, but it’s almost done.
Gavin responds with a “Mm”. He seems to hesitate, then walks over and takes my hand in his, his thumb rubbing it gently.
Gavin: I have a mission in a few days. It’s of a high level, so you might not be able to contact me for a while.
I freeze for a moment, subconsciously recalling how Eli had previously detailed the dangers of Gavin’s missions.
MC: ...is the level of danger very high as well?
Gavin: Mm, it’s a little dangerous. Which is why I have to go.
He pauses, then continues.
Gavin: You don’t need to worry. Before the 30th of next month, I’ll definitely be back.
He speaks confidently. Suppressing the worry in my heart, I give him a smile.
MC: All right. I’ll take care of Little Spiky. And will wait for you to come back.
[ end of flashback ]
The wind chime clangs, its melody light-hearted and lively. However, I can’t help but sigh.
For some reason, the second day after Gavin left, I discovered that the crystal shoes in the cabinet had disappeared.
I searched the house, but couldn’t find a trace of them. In the end, my guess was that a thief had stolen them.
Even after pondering over it a hundred times, I remain puzzled about the thief’s motives, and couldn’t fathom how a thief could have broken in. To be safe, I ended up changing the lock.
MC: When Gavin returns, should I tell him about this...
All of a sudden, the wind outside grows stronger, causing a magazine on the table to flip open with a rustle.
MC: What’s this?
I walk over, holding up the magazine. I flip through it randomly, and wind up on a page which has been folded.
It features a custom-made jewellery shop.
The vibrant front cover is incompatible with the cold colours of Gavin’s house. On the page, the eye-catching font forms the shop’s name - “Cang Xing”.
[Note] 苍星 (“cang xing”) directly translates to “dark green star”.
MC: Isn’t this the private studio which opened recently?
In a program not too long ago, I got to know about this shop. Although its prices are hefty, and the workmanship takes quite a long time, it has a very good reputation.
I find myself getting confused.
MC: Is Gavin interested in this shop too...
The phone suddenly rings.
Designer: Hello. Is this Miss MC? I’m a designer from Cang Xing. Previously, a customer ordered a gift for you. May I know if you have time to drop by and have a look today?
MC: A gift?
My eyes flit to the magazine in my hands, a vague guess surfacing in my heart.
MC: All right, I’ll head over now.
-
Pushing open the doors to the studio, it’s as though I’ve stepped into another world.
Soft white muslin can be seen everywhere. Jewellery of various colours can be seen on the ivory tables, brilliant like stars in the dark night.
The table near the entrance has visitors’ book. The designer doesn’t seem to be around, so I instinctively pick up a pen and flip it open, planning to write my name down.
After signing my name and preparing to shut the book, I suddenly see familiar handwriting.
On the upper section of this page, amongst a mix of illegible and serious font, there’s a handsome and light-hearted one.
It’s Gavin’s.
The date that he filled in was the third day before he left for the mission.
??: May I know if you’re Miss MC?
A staff dressed in working attire walks towards me.
MC: Mm, I’m MC.
??: Nice to meet you, I’m the designer who talked to you over the phone earlier. Please follow me.
I follow the designer’s directions and walk towards a reception area at the side.
Several pink jasmines are scattered on the table of the reception area. At the side, there’s a long white silk ribbon, looking as though it’s been tied halfway.
MC: Is there an event happening in the store today?
Designer: No, there isn’t. These were leftover flowers from an earlier event. I just thought to use them to decorate the shop. I didn’t expect you to reach so quickly, so I was only halfway done with the decorations.
The designer explains in embarrassment.
MC: I see. Oh yes, you mentioned a custom-made gift in the call...
The designer casts a glance towards the door, her expression turning apologetic.
Designer: Well... I have to wait for the customer who ordered it to arrive before I can tell you. I’m really sorry about that.
I nod my head pensively. Looking at the unfinished decorations, I break the silence.
MC: Since I have to wait, why don’t I help you with the decorations?
Designer: How could I ask that of you!
MC: It’s fine. Is this meant to be hung on the wall?
While speaking, I pick up the jasmine flowers on the floor, and hand it to the designer.
After that, we stand on the stools, hanging the jasmine flowers on the wall. The white muslin sways gently next to us.
At this moment, the door is suddenly pulled open. What follows is the sound of specially made boots. The footsteps are slightly hurried, and they pause not too far off.
Gavin: Sorry, I arrived slightly later than scheduled.
I lift my head abruptly, turning around and wanting to hop off the stool. But my coat gets stuck on a hook, which has jasmine flowers hanging on it.
MC: !
Along with the sound of fabric ripping, a pulling force tugs me backwards, and there’s empty space beneath my feet.
MC: Gavin--
In a moment of desperation, the word slips my mouth.
A gust of wind blows up the white muslin. Accompanied by a calm laugh, a strong pair of arms wrap around my waist.
Gavin: [laughs] Don't worry, I won’t let you fall.
Gavin catches me steadily. In the narrow and small world created by the soft, drifting muslin, he carries me and spins in half a circle.
My torn coat is on the floor. Slightly embarrassed, I clasp a hand over the strap which has fallen off my shoulder.
Gavin sets me down. His gaze falls on my body lightly. Then, he hurriedly averts his line of sight.
Gavin: [coughs] ...
The temperature in the room suddenly rises. Face flushed, I frantically search for the coat.
MC: ...where’s the coat?
Gavin: Over here.
He picks up the coat and hands it to me, his eyes averted to the side, his ears tinged a slight red. I take the coat, but discover that it’s basically unwearable since the snag is too serious.
In the next second, a warm piece of clothing is draped over me. The texture feels slightly hard, and I can even still feel the cold insignia.
MC: ?
I lift my head to see that Gavin has taken off his uniform, revealing his white shirt underneath.
Gavin: Put mine on first.
He pulls the uniform more snugly around my body. His warm fingertips accidentally brush my collarbone, causing me to shiver.
Face flushed, I lower my head. But I catch sight of a ripped button on Gavin’s shirt.
MC: What happened? Are you hurt? Are there any other places? Let me see...
Anxious, I’m just about to pry apart his shirt to check if there are any injuries on his body.
Gavin: ...
Gavin: I’m fine.
Gavin grips my hand to stop me, his cheeks slightly red.
The designer had left without us realising it, leaving the private space to us.
The surroundings are delicate and tranquil. Only the person before me carries with him a windy and frosty aura, his eyes lowered as he watches me quietly.
[Note] Interestingly, the word used to describe Gavin’s aura, 风霜 (“feng shuang”) also has a figurative meaning to describe someone who has experienced hardships in life :’)
MC: Let me have a look then. Only after I’ve verified it with my own eyes, I’ll believe that you’re not lying to me.
I act in a fit of pique, angry and not understanding why he would still hide his injuries from me.
Gavin looks resigned. After a moment, his long and slender fingers touch his lapel, slowly removing one button.
His defined muscles come into view, revealing a lean figure.
My hand gently brushes a wound on his shoulder blade which has already formed a scab, and my nose suddenly feels sour.
Gavin: It’s just a small wound, and it has already healed.
His gaze follows my hands and rests on the wound, then he pauses.
After being silent for a while, I lower my head, mildly aggrieved, and speak.
MC: Did you rush over from afar? Actually, you could have taken your time to come back. You didn’t have to... be afraid that I’d worry, and be so anxious.
I hold onto Gavin’s hand. He hasn’t removed his gloves, and the touch feels as cold as ice, bringing with it a chill.
Gavin: It wasn’t far.
He tries removing his gloves before holding me again. But I don’t release him, and I tighten my grip.
Gavin pauses. Then, his fingers curl slightly, encasing my hand in his.
Gavin: The mission was completed earlier, so I came back.
A smile dyes Gavin’s eyes. Then, he pinches my palm.
Gavin: Let’s not talk about these things first. The gift I prepared for you - want to know what it is?
Looking at the mildly expectant expression on his face, I can’t help but store away my sour emotions, and snort with laughter.
MC: I do want to know. So could Officer Gavin tell me what it is?
Gavin: You’ll know soon.
-
MC: I didn’t think there would be a small showroom at the back of the private studio...
After pushing open the door inside the studio, what enters my vision is a glass showroom.
The outer side of the showroom is constructed using glass, allowing sunlight to stream in, illuminating bouquets of pink jasmine flowers that have been strung up.
Gavin: This is a small glass showroom originally used by the owner to allow customers to hold mock weddings.
Gavin guides me to the centre of the showroom, brushing past the flower bouquets.
Gavin: But today, I’ve temporarily borrowed it.
A gust of wind causes the fine gauze draped over the showcase in the middle to fall, revealing a pair of crystal shoes surrounded by flowers.
The shoe now has a small gem embedded in the place which was scratched - brilliant, bright and sparkling.
MC: ...this is? What is it doing here?!
Gavin: When I went to your house the other day, I saw that you placed them on the shoe cabinet.
I’m a little dumbfounded.
MC: I thought I hid it in the box...
Gavin can’t help but laugh.
Gavin: Mm, you did hide it in the box. But your reaction was too obvious. In the span of a meal, you glanced at that area around ten times. So before I left, I took a look.
This causes me to feel perplexed.
MC: So you were the one who secretly took the shoes away. I thought I lost them, and was depressed for so long. I also thought a thief stole them, and even changed the lock.
I mumble softly, but my eyes sneakily linger on that pair of fully restored crystal shoes.
The unease from the scratched souvenir vanishes bit by bit, turning into a sweetened state of mind.
Gavin: I searched for many places, but only this shop’s owner said he could use precious stones to try restoring the damaged area.
Gavin: The date of the completed restoration could have been earlier, but I wanted to give them to you personally.
Gavin: Which is why I asked the shop to give you call today.
Gavin: [coughs] Even though it looks different from how it was before...
I interrupt him softly.
MC: But I like it very much.
Gavin stops, looking at me seriously with lowered eyes.
Gavin: I did this because I didn’t want you to be unhappy over the damaged crystal shoes.
Gavin: As long as you like it, that’s all that matters.
His words land on my heart, rippling across it.
Slightly flushed, my peripheral vision rests on the gem, which is reflecting specks of light.
MC: Oh yes, what’s with this gem?
Gavin: While I was on a mission, I passed by a shop and saw this gem through the window.
Gavin releases an unnatural cough.
Gavin: At that time, I was about to return to help you with the amusement park wedding photoshoot. I thought it would be of use, so I bought it.
Gavin: But after that, I didn’t have a chance to give it to you.
He seems to think about something, and laughs lightly.
Gavin: I kept thinking about when would be an appropriate time to give it to you.
Gavin: It just so happened that the shape of the gem needed by the owner tallied with this.
Gavin: So it was used.
He fixes his eyes on me, affectionate and gentle.
Sunlight parts the layers of clouds, casting a warm shade. It’s as though I can clearly hear the sound of my own heart beating.
The sound gradually grows louder, becoming more urgent, wanting to burrow its way out of my chest and tell the person in front of me how I feel right now.
MC: Although what I’m about to say may come across as being overly polite to you, I still have to say it.
MC: Gavin, thank you.
Thank you for silently watching over my mood. Thank you for always returning to my side no matter where you go.
The white muslin drifts to and fro. My heart stirs, and I gently touch the muslin in front of me. Sunlight streams in.
My fingertips brush the soft white muslin, tracing the word “Gavin” on it.
I turn my head to the side, blinking at Gavin a little playfully.
MC: This word - apart from it being your name, it also has another meaning.
MC: It’s “courage”.
Gavin’s eyes pause on my face, as though he’s slightly shocked. But it quickly morphs into a smile which harbours starlight.
His smile leaves me in a daze. I turn back, pretending to be unaffected as I begin speaking softly.
MC: Gavin, you are my courage.
MC: You are the courage I have when I face life’s large and small twists and turns.
MC: Next time, I’ll become a person who is stronger in heart, and won’t be dejected over such a trivial matter.
MC: I’ll also work hard to become your courage and strength - to protect you from harm each time you go on missions.
MC: Or... to sustain fewer injuries.
I wave a fist towards Gavin as a display of my determination. The sunlight sifting in through the muslin is like a gentle filter, descending on Gavin slowly.
Having to part from each other and having gloomy moods are inevitable. But there’s one person who will ultimately make his way over to me, smoothening out all the anguish, leaving only happiness behind.
He will cross the mountains and rivers, walk across the clouds and the moon, to meet me at the brink of dawn.
Gavin: [laughs] I got it.
He turns his head, mimicking my earlier actions, lifting his hand to trace something on the white muslin.
MC: This is...
I try to decipher what he wrote, but can’t tell what it is. Confused, I look at Gavin.
He puts his hand down, lifting his eyes to stare at me quietly.
Gavin: Protecting each other.
His voice is loud and clear, reminiscent of a galloping breeze in autumn, crashing into my heart.
Gavin: You are already my strength.
Gavin: So I will keep protecting you, and everything you like.
The numerous times of parting, the numerous mornings and evenings spent alone, now leave a sweet aftertaste.
MC: Gavin, I’m really happy now.
MC: So happy that I feel as though the entire world is before me at this moment, and within reach.
Seeing my smile, Gavin lifts the white muslin between us, reaching out to bring me into his arms.
The coat draped over my shoulders slides off. The white muslin is akin to a gentle mist, gracefully drifting mid-air, then falling onto the both of us.
Gavin holds my hand, encircling me in his arms.
MC: Gavin...
The close and warm contact causes my face to heat up. I can’t help but call his name.
But he isn’t in a hurry to respond. Instead, he lifts a hand, taking a strand of my hair into his palm, his gaze lingering on my face.
Gavin: Now, I’m the only person in your entire world.
The delicate fragrance of pink jasmine slowly permeates the air. The temperature from our laced fingers is scalding. I tilt my head upwards, giving Gavin’s chin a careful peck.
MC: In that case, could I bribe my entire world to let me have this moment for a while longer?
In the next second, I feel warmth around my waist, and Gavin wraps me in his arms tightly.
He lowers his head slightly, his fringe brushing my eyelashes. I can feel his steady, composed breaths.
Gavin: No matter how long it is, you can.

RULES: When your work is tagged, show the process of its creation from planning to posting, then tag 5 people with a specific link to one of their creative works you’d like to see the process of. Use the tag #showyourprocess so we can find yours!
I was tagged by Aamna @yibobibo to show the process for this gifset. Thank you so much kleine Maus 🧡 Thank you for showing us your own process!!
Thank you also to @lan-xichens @suibianjie @highwarlockkareena @nyx4 and @aheartfullofjolllly for starting this amazing project
Let’s get right into it, shall we:
Planning
I never do much planning. Maybe I should tho... I had this set in mind ever since I first saw that WenZhou scene in episode 32. The intimacy instantly reminded me of the two other scenes I included in this set. For some reason there’s always That Scene That Hits Me in danmei live adaptations!!
At first I had planned to do 6 separate gifs but I didn’t like the format so I decided to try overlays! It was my first time blending two gifs together. I think it turned out quite fine.
So I looked for the respective scenes, cut them into clips, and put them through Avisynth. I decided to go quite big so I chose a dimension of 540x400. (Usually my gifs are 540x370.)
I save all the clipped out scenes in a folder inside the folders for the respective dramas.
Creating
So, for the first gif I first imported the two clips separately. Then I deleted the extra frames for each one and sharpened them (also separately). For sharpening I use this action that includes converting them into smart objects. I mostly use the “Sharpening V1″ option, sometimes if it looks good also “Sharpening V2″.
Now I duplicated the Yunlan part of the gif (left side) onto the Shen Wei part. I tried the “Lighten” blending mode like HanYi explained in her tutorial, but it wasn’t right for what I had in mind lol. So I simply set the blending mode back to normal and added a mask to one of the gifs:
And I blacked out the area where I wanted the underlying gif to show up. So now it looks like this:
A bit sad, isn’t it? So in the next step I went through my usual colouring process: Brightness/Contrast, Curves, Levels (sometimes I use them, sometimes I don’t), Vibrance, Selective Color, Hue/Saturation. The biggest problem was to make the skin color vibrant but not too yellow or pink (somehow I always ended up with either of these).
(I’ll be honest, I don’t usually change this much. I don’t normally touch whites and neutrals at all. It’s just that this gif was pretty difficult to colour ksfhsdkjf)
This is what it looks like now:
I definitely wanted to include typography here, which is also something I did for the first time heh. So I’m sure there’s easier ways to do this but alas, here is how I did it:
I added a text layer and typed in the quote. I wanted to go for something simple so I turned to the good ol’ Verdana font. I wanted it to look like a box, so I played around with the space bar and manually adjusted the spaces between letters which you can do where the little VA symbol is:
After I was done with all my gifs (lmao) I decided I wanted to add the quote in hanzi too, as a transparent layer in the background. So I looked up the quotes in Chinese, pasted them into another text layer and set the blending mode to soft light. I also played around with font size and spaces. The font I used is one of PS’s pre-installed ones called FZShuTi.
Added the watermark, and done!! Then I repeated basically the same process for the other two scenes, except that I didn’t need to blend two gifs together for the last one. I had to adjust the layers for colouring individually since they are three different shows with different lighting, setting, and colouring and I wanted it to look at least a bit consistent (🥵).
Special thanks to Kareena who helped me point out some problems I had!!
Posting:
Yeah so I’m pretty impatient when it comes to posting but I queued this one to post in the evening as I do for most of my content. I loaded the gifs into a photo post, added an ID and the Darwish quote. It was quite difficult to find a quote that fit all of these pairings but that one hit me in the face (Mahmoud pls....).
Added the names of the shows and the episode numbers, plus a link to the set that finally convinced me to make this hehe (thank u Aamna).
D O N E !
Tagging:
@aikakuu and this piece of art (srsly one of my favourite XingChen pieces out there ;-;)
@yutaan and this lil Wen Ning!!
@hawberries and this piece that took me out
@shuang-hua and these babies (i know it’s watercolour so no pressure if it’s difficult to make a show-your-process post!!)

Text
"Why is it that when I'm with you, I always feel like... Just... Every day I wake up looking forward to starting the day." He kissed Bai Changyi with his greasy mouth after eating the xiao long bao. He picked up another you tiao and went to draw the curtains, "Do you understand that feeling?"
Morning light gushed in, shining on his arms, chest, legs and bare feet.
The room was bright and clear.
He sat on the windowsill and gnawed on the you tiao, looking at the pedestrians and vehicles downstairs. Then he turned to look at Bai Changyi who was working, "I just feel so... alive."
Just like sunlight, just like summer, just like endless weeds, flourishing year after year.
I love their relationship. They have grown so much, especially Ting Shuang.
