Magical Girl Burlesque
19 posts
Magical Girl: A genre of manga and anime focusing on the power and inner strength of girls. It was the year 2016; the sun, moon, and Uranus had aligned and the heroes and heathens of Earth formed an alliance. Thus, the Magical Girls were born. With sugar, spice, and everything nice, the group united to use their tassel twirling, booty shaking, glitter throwing powers against the forces of evil.

Strongwomen from the 1800s

If someone ever tells you strong muscular women didn’t exist in the past, and that every woman was little, tiny and dainty, show them their ignorant ass this post.

*Never say never, we might do one more this year.  But you didn’t hear it from me.

2017 was a very productive and busy year for the Magical Girl squad!  So busy, in fact, that the admins had very little time to continue updating the Tumblrsphere of our latest shenanigans!  But with 2018 already under way, we’re going to make an attempt to right that wrong and freshen up the blog with snapshots from last year’s major events!  Get ready!

Coming out of hibernation to spread the word about a fundraiser that’s got me feeling A Certain Way.  Mainly that it shouldn’t even be necessary.  Basically, those three folks in the above pic are being sued for defamation after bravely calling out an abuser on social media.  Unfortunately the douchecanoe suing them is a well off established burlesque producer who doesn’t have much to lose by unleashing this expensive shitstorm and boy howdy are lawsuits expensive.
Really just take two seconds to click the link and read the story because it’s honestly such a crock of shit and makes me so irate just thinking about it.  People trying to do the right thing by exposing sex offenders shouldn’t be silenced into submission.  Not only is that disgusting and shameful as fuck, but dude revealed Anja and Bunny’s legal identities on Facebook and in an article with a major New York newspaper.  PEOPLE IN THIS INDUSTRY USE STAGE NAMES FOR A REASON.  Revealing their legal names is a dangerous underhanded tactic.
I’m done ranting, because I could keep going, I’m so mad about this.  Please consider donating as every little bit helps, and if you can’t donate, then please reblog this post.  Everyone has been blowing it up on Facebook and Twitter, but I know Tumblr has a strong social justice base so let’s make some noise here too!  This fundraiser is so close to its goal, please help out if you can! <3

When used correctly, performative misandry uncovers the ridiculous nature of misogyny and the men who believe in it. MGB seeks to dismantle these toxic views and create a safe performance atmosphere removed from the harmful influence of traditional gender roles.

What We Watched...
Last night, the producer squad attended Galatea Stone Presents We Are Legion: Moist and had a steamy time. Raina Sinclair and Betty Brash were able to attend as audience members while Paige helped out by guarding the door and selling tickets for the raffle.
This monthly show, produced and hosted by Galatea Stone, takes place on the second Wednesday of every month at Legion, a bar located in Williamsburg. At We Are Legion, Galatea unites a broad variety of performers under one theme and shows how flexible striptease can be.
Moist is... an uncomfortable word. People cringe when they hear it, they frown so deep they look like muppets, they make disgusted noises in the back of their throats. Galatea Stone took that discomfort and turned it toward something sexy and hilarious.
In the first half, there were performances by Clara Coquette, Satine S'Allumer, and Miss Mary Cyn. Clara Coquette kicked off the show with a delightfully unique depiction of a stingray (which Galatea prepared us for by telling us a story about when she had to work the stingray pool the day Steve Irwin died--ouch). Next, we saw Satine S’Allumer, a pastel dream from beneath the sea, show us where pearls really come from. Last in the first half was Miss Mary Cyn, a poor victim of global warming-- her act smoldered as she drenched herself in a vain attempt to escape the ever rising heat.
A brief intermission gave Zee Valenteen, the badass stage manager/kitten a chance the clear the stage and charm the audience out of their money, putting it straight into her tiny shorts while Penny Lane gave her a beat to dance to.
The second act included Tiger Bay, Iris Explosion, and the producer herself Galatea Stone. Each performer built on the foundation of the one before and delivered innovative performances that had us cheering wildly. Tiger Bay swept us away in a storm cloud-- her costume was pure #goals, guys. The clouds! The rain! The lightning! Irish Explosion followed her with a Titanic-inspired number that almost knocked Paige off her stool. Iris captured everyone with her facial expressions and deliberate choreography. Finally, Galatea Stone took the stage as everyone’s favorite mathematician: Dr. Ian Malcolm. This act was delightful and absurd!
Next month, on May 10th, Galatea Stone Presents will be back at Legion with a new show, “Anti-Heroes.” We hope you’ll check it out and say hi if you see us at the bar!

Grumpy old burlesque lady advice #1
Whether it’s your lingerie or a dress, snip out your clothing tags. It’s sloppy and distracting. I saw a girl in a beautiful red sequin ensemble, marred with bright white tags all over the place, multiple tags in each layer. Two minutes with some scissors could’ve taken that to perfection. It also helps create the illusion that you, the glamorous diva that you are, get all your clothes custom made because you are special and it hides the fact that you get everything from Burlington Coat Factory, with a coupon.
