Maximize Stability and Reduce Vibrations with High-Quality Wedge Mounts
In the contemporary era of industrial manufacturing, the utmost importance is placed on stability and precision. Ensuring stability and minimising vibrations are essential for achieving maximum performance and durability in various types of machinery, including sensitive electronic equipment and heavy industrial applications.
Wedge mounts have a highly innovative engineered mechanisms that offer enhanced stability, effective shock absorption, and reduced vibrations, making them suitable for a diverse array of applications to optimize operations.
Stability and Vibration Reduction
Making sure there is less vibration and more stability is crucial in manufacturing of any kind.
Production and safety are jeopardised when equipment is damaged by instability. Vibrations are known to lead to lesser accuracy, early wear, and disastrous failure.
To keep machinery from swaying, tilting, or moving, precision-engineered wedge mounts are used. Between the machinery and its supporting surface, these mounts dampen vibrations and shocks, both internal and external. Workplace stability, longer equipment life, and less likelihood of expensive repairs or replacements are all benefits of Dynemech Wedge Mounts.
Common applications for wedge mounts
1. Industrial machinery and equipment
Wedge mounts are extensively used to support heavy machinery in industrial settings – precision levelling, machinery alignment and vibration isolation can be achieved.  Eg. lathes and milling machines to mechanical presses and stamping equipment, machining centres, injection moulding machines etc. can be mounted on Dynemech Wedge Mounts in all configurations.
2. Electronic and semiconductor manufacturing
Electronics and semiconductors rely heavily on precision. Wedge mounts provide stability to sophisticated  machinery used in cleanrooms, electronic testing, and circuit fabrication. In order to maintain manufacturing and product quality, Dynemech Wedge Mounts minimise vibrations.
3. Automotive and aerospace engineering
Assembly lines for cars and planes, engine test facilities, and wind tunnels all employ wedge mounts for stability and control. These anti vibration Wedge Mounts enhance the safety and performance of vehicles and aeroplanes while providing accurate ,precise measurements and protecting components from harm.

Fuwa Maria AI & Fuwa Mario AI for DiffSinger Progress Report (April 2024)
It's been (almost) a month since my last progress report, but since it's April, I thought it wouldn't hurt to update with a new one. Plus, I got some big news to share!
Everything else is under the cut as usual.
Voicebank Progress
Both of Maria and Mario's DiffSinger voicebanks have been trained up to 200k variance and 160k acoustic! At that point, both voicebanks sound their very best, at least in version 1.0.0. Regardless, I'm still happy with the way they turned out, and at least they sound distinct from each other.
The reason why I say version 1.0.0 is because I have a potential version 2.0.0 update in the works. The thing is, version 1.0.0 will be the last time my old recording setup was used to record singing data. I say this because my current microphone, the Blue Snowball iCE, is just not cutting it for my needs these days, especially when it comes to singing in general. I don't really know when version 2.0.0 will come out, but maybe next year or so - IF I can get my hands on new equipment. Please expect version 1.0.0 to come out later this year, probably during June or something like that.
In the meantime, once I finish the artwork of my DiffSinger designs, I will post silhouettes of them along with new short demos. If that ReFlow update for DiffSinger comes out after I release my voicebanks, there COULD be a 1.1.0 update.
Possible Audio Equipment Upgrades
So for audio equipment, I'd like to upgrade to using an XLR microphone and interface for recording. I'm glad there are cheaper options out there that are actually good, plus I am on a budget myself, and would like to spend under $200 for that.
I am still using my pop filter, desktop stand, and isolation shield from my old setup, so with that being said, I'd like to upgrade to a Mackie EM-91C microphone and an M-Audio M-Track Solo audio interface. Both of these are budget options, but based on the reviews, I've heard that they are solid choices for starting out with an XLR setup. Plus the Mackie EM-91C already comes with a shockmount AND an XLR cable!
Potential Megamodel Development
I am considering developing a megamodel with my friends to add more language compatibility and range with the 2.0.0 update - that is, if everything goes to plan. I plan to add Maria and Mario's potential new datasets to the mix of course, as well as my friends if they're fine with that. It could be just plain singing data or even UTAU recordings - anything helps to further improve the model output.
For language support, Japanese and English are planned, but if possible, there could be support for French, Spanish, Italian, or perhaps even Chinese, Korean, and/or Tagalog. I still need to figure out the phonemes and how I want to organize them though.
I just hope that when the megamodel dataset is complete, Colab will still be merciful to me...I'm not sure why it takes longer to set everything up...
Character Progress
Designs
I just finished working on Maria and Mario's reference sheets for their DiffSinger designs! Currently focused on finishing their fullbody artwork, which won't be revealed up until their voicebank release.
And no, I don't want to work on additional append designs, that's already too much work...It'd make sense for standalone appends, which is what I did for my other UTAU voicebanks, but for DiffSinger...naaaaah.
Profiles
Nothing new at the moment! I'm still working on fleshing out the lore, given that DiffSinger Maria and Mario are just slightly older versions of their UTAU selves. Expect some lore drops about them when their voicebanks are released? I don't really want to make separate profile pages for them at all.
Anything Else?
For the potential 2.0.0 update, I would love to revive a discontinued UTAU of mine and resurrect them as a DiffSinger through the planned megamodel with a serviceable amount of singing data and vocal modes. If I can do the voice again, I might go forward with it!
Also Maria and Mario's 9th anniversary was on the 4th, and it's wild how they've existed for so long. Listening to their old voicebanks reminds me of how far they've come, and it makes me want to tear up a bit.
Anyways, I'll see you guys around! I might be able to publish full-length demos of Maria and Mario's DiffSinger voicebanks on YouTube at some point, so keep an eye out for that.

made a great deal
found an Apex 210 ribbon mic, broken jangly ribbon and reeking of cigarette smoke for $40 a couple months ago….
It already had the inner wire mesh layers and any pop filtering fabric removed, and it was missing some screws and had the ribbon screws stripped by the previous owner.
Disassembled it all, washed it, and retensioned the ribbon the day i got it, and it worked but sounded a bit harsh in the highs; likely sounded as good as it ever had up to that point…
The gig bag for this mic smelled disgusting even after multiple washes with TSP substitute and various soap and detergent, so I let that go and replaced it with a padded wine bottle bag but it just isn’t padded enough. Not sure where to find a better padded bag or box that would stow the mic vertically!
Today i got replacement strain relief gland based spirals and they just happen to fit this body, so I added a Neutrik XLR connector and Star quad mic wire with braided shielding to that. Along with some foam and PVC card samples, i was able to deaden the gnarly body resonance that was making the harsh high frequency response. I cut the PVC card samples to make a front and rear rounded-E-shaped wall divider to slot between the magnets and the cup piece of metal that forms the bottom half of the mic. All told, I spent about $10 on the parts used here and wound up with a $50 ribbon mic that performs much better than if I had instantly gone off spending $100 on changing the ribbon thickness and output transformer. I still may give that a shot, but this is suddenly a lot closer to the sound of the AEA R84, whose neodymium magnet and (2”x5mm/2-micron thick) ribbon geometry these Chinese made long ribbons imitate. It is still less sensitive than an RCA type 74b mi-1036G strapped for 250-Ohm output; I believe this Apex output transformer was <200-Ohm impedance from the factory.
This cheap simple change works for any of the yoke-mounted made in China ribbon microphones that may need this, such as the Apex 210 or the improved version model 205, Nady RSM2, Alctron HRM-2, ShinyBox 23, t.Bone R500, SM MC-04, Cascade VinJet, ShinyBox 46, Nady RSM1, Golden Age Project R1 and others may have nearly the same motor and maybe some of the same shortcomings.
Here’s a good article on the subject: http://recordinghacks.com/2008/11/01/chinese-ribbon-microphone-designs/
A note on this PVC card sample stock I used, I have no real clue what I have. It came from a reuse place and they were a steel ring of samples of various colors of this stuff. It doesn’t really bend well and snaps after about 30°. The inside of this stuff is like a closed cell foam while the front and back look the same and form a more solid layer of plastic. Maybe sheets of this stuff were heat pressed from PVC. It’s 1.5-2mm thick and definitely wasn’t meant for this. You could use anything that will fit and stay and where you could fasten two halves with an overlap so that it stays put as a divider between the body and the ribbon motor. I used Ukraine 🇺🇦 colors with yellow on the front side :D
The strain relief was like a PG9 size iirc. Where the original pinch lock passthru strain relief had straight sides, the threads on the new strain relief grab and thread in juuust right, too! Much more like the AEA strain relief, to boot
Further mod ideas:
Replace the yoke with a shockmount like the GAP RSM
Unscrew the yoke flat piece from the piece that threads onto the mic stand and use a post style shockmount more like the one used in the RCA type 44 yoke
Or, replace the thumbscrew thread holes in the frame of the ribbon motor with a threaded insert shockmount bushing
stick some silicone damping instead of the foam
maybe improve sensitivity by using a higher turns ratio transformer
could sew more padding in to the bottle bag
high impedance input circuit or mic pre to pair with these types of things (i already have lots of 150-2200-Ohm inputs, some of which can change)
add a Crown Royal type cloth velvety bag both to pad the mic in the wine bottle bag AND to make the ideal 360° pop filter! They can even be stuffed with some foam and fitted with some fur on the outside to resist wind buffeting, it’s really great for that because it can enclose and keep wind off of the bottom and yoke of the mic as well, even if it is no Rycote zeppelin and dead cat. they even sell some raincoats for the dead cats that don’t make noise as they are hit by raindrops! i just don’t usually do it in the rain

Dont get scammed buying a SM7B
I had a discussion yesterday with someone searching for a new mic and i was baffled how many people seemingly dont know that the market for SM7Bs is absolutely flooded with fakes. (also used)
People are buying fakes for 50-90 bucks and sell them as "used" originals for ~150.
Tumblr media
Here the comparison video the previous picture is from. But there are even better fakes out there.
youtube
So whats the solution?
imo people have to stop their obsession with the mere looks, because there is a much better and cheaper alternative out there...
And that is the SM57. - can be easily EQd to sound like the SM7B - needs less gain to work properly - costs a quarter of its big brother - much more versatile - smaller
Here a video on how to EQ the SM57 into an SM7B:
youtube
It is so good that people even DIY there own fake SM7Bs with them... like wtf? Thats not how that works.🤦
Tumblr media
The problem is, there are also SM57 fakes... BUT being a much cheaper microphone it is much easier and safer to simply buy it new from a reputable seller that gets their mics from official sources.
And together with a windscreen and a cheap shockmount like the t.bone SSM 5 or 6 its a real working horse.
There is a reason why the US presidents and many musicians are using this mic for decades already!
Also with the original parts - the A2WS and A55M - it looks sleek af.
So unless you are going for the SM7B just as a status-symbol or you KNOW how it benefits you over the SM57, there is no reason to go for it and in the worst case cheap out and get a fake.
Of course its up to you, but dont pretend afterwards, i havent warned you. :)
Tumblr media
Also... if you want to have good individualized audio for your voice+mic combination, you have to understand basic post-processing anyway and especially EQ.
I like to use Steelseries Sonar for that and to split my audio lines for streams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have a nice day! ✌️

I'm begging you video essay YouTubers, quit holding your studio mics that are meant to go on a stand with a proper shockmount in your hand.
Get a lavalier if you want to shoot on location, or you know, an actual handheld microphone. The Shure SM58 is widely available, extremely reliable, and you know, actually meant to be held in your hand.

The closer you are to the ‘stem’, the less sensitive the mic is Application – Great in both Vocal and Instruments, wide frequency response makes it an ideal mic to capture vocals, acoustic guitars, acoustic pianos and even strings as the condenser is able to take an accurate snapshot and capture all the subtleties and nuances inherent in these instruments [ad_2]

Quick Answer: No, the Shure SM7B doesn't need a shock mount. The SM7B has enough internal shock mounting to isolate the microphone from vibrations properly. We recommend using a microphone boom arm if you need extra isolation.
Does The Shure SM7B Need A Shock Mount?
Tumblr media
Check Price The Shure SM7B is a popular and versatile microphone commonly used for recording vocals, podcasts, and other audio applications. It is a dynamic microphone, which means that it uses a moving coil to generate an audio signal, and it has a built-in pop filter to reduce plosive sounds and breath noises. A shock mount is a device that attaches to a microphone and helps to isolate it from external vibrations and movements. Shockmounts are commonly used in recording and broadcast applications. They can help reduce handling noise, footfalls, and other low-frequency vibrations that can affect the audio signal quality. The Shure SM7B does not require a shock mount to function properly. The microphone has a robust built-in internal shock-mount system that helps to isolate the capsule and reduce vibrations and handling noise. This internal shock-mount system is designed to provide a high degree of isolation and is sufficient for most recording situations. Related: Complete Shure SM7B Setup Guide
Mic Stand For Shure SM7B
Although the Shure SM7B doesn't need a shock mount, you will need a mic stand. A mic stand can add additional isolation for your SM7B. If you're looking for a mic stand for the Shure SM7B, you have two options: - Table Stand - Boom Arm Table Mic Stand
Tumblr media
Check Price A table mic stand is a microphone stand designed to be placed on a table or other flat surface. It is a compact and lightweight stand typically used for recording podcasts, voiceovers, and other applications where a microphone needs to be placed close to the speaker or source. Table mic stands can take up valuable space and offer no sound isolation. - Pros - Inexpensive - Easy To Use - Cons - It takes up valuable desk space - No additional sound isolation Microphone Boom Arm

Microphone boom arms allow the microphone to be positioned close to the sound source, such as a speaker or instrument. They can easily adjust to achieve the desired recording angle and sound quality. Not only do microphone boom arms give you better positioning, but they provide better isolation from the table. This can prevent taps, bumps, and movement from vibrating through the table into your microphone. Our favorite microphone boom arm is the Rode PSA1+ - Pros - It doesn't take up desk space - Adds additional sound isolation - Cons - More expensive
Shure SM7B & Shockmount FAQ
Does The Shure SM7B Need A Shockmount? No, the Shure SM7B does not need a shock mount. The SM7B has an internal shock mounting system that effectively removes vibration in most situations. How Can I Improve Shockmounting For The Shure SM7B If you need to isolate the Shure SM7B from the table, you can use a boom arm like the Rode PSA1+ with additional shock absorption material to isolate the Shure SM7B from its environment. Is A Microphone Shock Mount Worth It? A shock mount is a good investment for condenser microphones. For dynamic microphones like the Shure SM7B, it's not necessary. What boom arm works with the Shure SM7B You need a high-quality boom arm for the Shure SM7B to support its weight. Some boom arms require a 3" extension tube (Shure A26X) to improve the ergonomics.
