The interests of the rider are the interests of the dragon. Do you really want to look for some kind of Stockholm syndrome here? the fact that irving canonically survives through the end of asunder to be at wynne's funeral is so fucking funny to me. nothing but love and respect for MY unstoppable cockroach morally grey machiavellian mage dad!!! he's survived in his position through multiple attempted rites of annulment and blood mage plots popping up left right and center around him. the chantry keeps trying to stamp him out but his dodge game is simply out of this world, divine. civil wars, political machinations and minefields, chantry atrocities, this wily old motherfucker is dodging and weaving his way through it all, not-quite-no-hits-taken-running-it-but-honestly-close-enough-under-the-circumstances style. if solas does succeed in tearing down the veil I would fully believe that one of the like three people still alive at the end of it all would be a very weary 90 year old first enchanter irving going 'oh this shit again huh'. the maker has cursed him for his hubris and his paperwork is never finished (affectionate, it's fine he canonically loves paperwork)

IMAGINE THIS: Lil baby Damian, bored and being not quite old enough to start learning how to use proper weapons (curse these wooden ones, he wants true steel!) is wandering the base. This is not out of the ordinary, he’s the prince after all. What is out of the ordinary is that his shadow, his Akhi, is not here. 

Technically, he should be napping, but he woke up and neither his mother or his brother- who is quiet but gentle and isn’t a good speaker (mother said it was from a head injury)- is there. Which is how he finds his way to the Pit, which he’s not supposed to be at. Or at least not alone. 

But! His mother and Akhi are there! And- and Akhi is screaming and he’s never heard him scream like that, like he’s in agony- His eyes are green- they were blue, had, had Mother placed him in the Waters- 

And then the pool is bubbling- he should be running away, get assistance or something, he’s five, he shouldn’t be running towards it when everything is screaming to flee. But one moment he’s at the doorway, the next he’s clinging to his akhi as something writhes in the Pit, a mighty bellow echoing even as the Shadows take defensive positions. 

The water cascades, laps at their feet, splashes everywhere as a scaled form rises from the depths, wings like a bloodied sunset spreading as fur bursts into flames. Crimson eyes glare down at them all, pupils slits as they bare down at his Akhi. 

The creature- the dragon- dips its head down, its breath warm as it chuffs at his akhi, wings folding as though it is bowing. His akhi is clinging to Mother, shivering, several scars glowing as they fade and a burst of hair burned white. 

Oh.

Can we collectively agree that games mean different things to different people?

Some people play games for the story, some for the mechanics, some for romance if it has any. RPGs we have been getting lately have been giving us a decent mix of the first two, but romance is a scarce theme and I'm tired of seeing people shit talk others who are intrigued by it as a major factor of their enjoyment.

You gotta understand that there are people who love the companions in games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and BG3, and that not a lot of games provide a healthy combination of good storytelling and romantic connections that feel natural and organic, so of course they're gonna love that. Hell, even just the friendships are a big part of these games where, you know, your companions and your relationship with them are two very important factors (Look at ME2 for that).

Just look at Starfield. They included a system where you could flirt but the flirt options felt so out of place, like someone would be talking about their sad sob story and you can interrupt to give them an out-of-place sultry compliment. It felt so inorganic and systematic, and that's a hard trap not to fall into.

Like I personally love games for their story, enjoy the different mechanics they offer, and love that a romantic connection could build with a character throughout the game after what you go through together. It's even better if it feels like a natural development.

So if there are people excited for a game's romance potential, especially Veilguard, let them have their fun, man. Don't want to see it? Block and don't follow, simple as that.

im curious about something. when you imagine which companion or advisor or npc is helping your inquisitor with the effects of the anchor, who is it? is it their friends or partners? is it the entire inner circle? is it maybe a companion or advisor that your inquisitor doesn't actually get along with very well but trusts them out of necessity? do they try to brave it out on their own instead? curious minds want to know (me)
