I'm absolutely headcanoning Yoriko as having a kid alongside Touka instead of 5-6 years later
Touka and Yoriko could then raise their kids together, learning and sharing as they go
Along with Miza's eldest son Shiroi, the kids could form a friend trio:
A ghoul, a half-ghoul, and a human
To parallel the trio of Touka / Kaneki / Hide
Plus with Yoriko's kid's surname being Kuroiwa, that gives a perfect nickname of Kuroi to match Shiroi

Talking about the kenference. What kinda book do you think they would all be reading together? In like a weekly reading session of sorts. I am thinking maybe something like "How to Manage Multiple Personalities: A Guide"
LOLL
Well. They're all very stubborn. They hate being told what to do and they don't particularly like the idea of changing their ways. It's their body after all, they don't understand why these other guys won't just let up. It's not like he did a good job with his time or anything, so he should leave it to me. I may not have done amazing but I will! I don't want to leave things in his hands, who knows what will happen.
That way of thinking makes self help books REALLY hard, because they all want to be right and differ juuuust enough to butt heads. They can't settle on a host, nobody wants to listen to anybody, why should I work with you? Look what you did with your time.
However, they all like to learn. They also all like to Figure Out. My answer to this question is nonfiction (how-to books, historical books, political books, etc) and mysteries!
Haise isn't quite into super mopey gorey stuff like Kuro is, so finding the right mystery can be tough. Add a good romance or some lively enough humor and they can find middle ground!
I like to think of them in a book store or library, looking over hundreds of books trying to appease as many of them as they can. This one's too childish. I don't like the tone of this one. Another one with a ghoul plot twist, yawn. This one has romance! Is there a sex scene? Because I don't particularly want to read that - especially not with you. We're all basically the same guy! Don't make it weird! ...But yeah I don't really want that either...
They... Try. They do better when they don't address the elephant in the room

Ken Kaneki | Shironeki [ Tokyo Ghoul ]
Tumblr media
{ Info } ☾ { Roleplay with me } ☾ { Ask this character } ☾ { Tag } ☾ { Guidelines }
Character Name: Ken Kaneki Age: 19 Species : Half-ghoul, Half-kakuja Canon: Tokyo Ghoul Canon Point: Chapter 121 or 143 Character Information: Wikia
Meeting Kaneki Half-ghouls/half-Kakujas Visuals
Personality:
At the beginning, Kaneki was a very kind, polite young man, extremely introvert and without many friends (he only has one, in fact). Very intelligent, and due to leading a very lonely life, Kaneki relied on books in order to learn and to be closer to his father who had passed away when he was still young. However, all of this hid how lonely Kaneki truly was, and worse: it hid how much he had been abused by his own mother, who was unable to get over her husband’s death and physically abused her own son in order to release her frustration. This same woman while taking care of her kid was also overworking herself to death in order to help her own terrible sister, and eventually she passed away from exhaustion.
Because of this, Kaneki grew up thinking that he had to hurt if he wanted to be loved. He believed by trying to speak up about his issues, his mind and his opinions, he was being selfish and that meant others would not love him. Kaneki was taught to sacrifice his own happiness and this is why he was quiet and would prefer to be hurt rather than hurting someone else. And he believed he had to help everyone all the time because that’s what his mother always did and that made her look like the kindest person, in his eyes. Kaneki always held on to the things his mother taught him through abuse, but he never really saw that as something bad.
Then he became a ghoul. Thanks to a crazy scientist, Kaneki became someone who had to consume others in order to survive and that caused him a lot of distress because it goes right against what he believed. However, through this, he was able to recognize the world is not black and white, ghouls are not just monster, and also was able to recognize his own weaknesses: he was unable to protect the ones he loves by just sitting around and hope everything got magically fixed. The first part of the manga focuses on that. And then he was kidnapped by a terrorist ghoul group called Aogiri Tree and he was tortured to extremes.
This leads to something changing within Kaneki. he realized the world is wrong, messed up. He admitted to himself his mother was weak for being unable to choose between her son and her sister, admitted he was weak too and that if he did want to protect his people, he had to go to extremes and eradicate anyone who’d threaten them; to be strong meant to eat others. Only this way he’d be able to protect his loved ones and be loved in turn, and so he would not be lonely because Kaneki can't stand loss and isn't able to live with loss.
So he went on rampage. He took upon himself to pluck out (kill and eat) bad ghouls, eradicate Aogiri Tree and the doctor who turned him into this. During this, his power grew out of control and Kaneki's mental health deteriorated so much that he became suicidal and started seeking death: he hoped to die as a hero and after sleep forever, because that was the only way for him to ever be forgiven or fixed. Kaneki is the epitome of tragedy and he shows us that his good intentions were very destructive.
Kaneki's core didn't change; he is a sweet, kind person who loves his friends and who'd do anything for them, and he doesn't like to hurt people. However as he became much more driven and obsessed with gaining power in order to protect said friends that sometimes, Kaneki started to jump from his gentle demeanor into a vicious state in just a few seconds.
In Kaneki’s mind, he was finally doing something and becoming merciless towards “bad ghouls” and consuming them had to be done so he could protect everyone. But Kaneki is not a cruel and vicious person by nature. Rather than being a repressed sadist, Kaneki's trauma twisted him into something he doesn't recognize, and in response he did exactly what his traumatic experiences taught him: be violent in return. He spiraled, violence and madness turned him numb, and suddenly he was relishing on other's pain.
And he hated it. He was scared of it, and he thought of himself as a monster for it. Kaneki’s violence came back to haunt him every time and ate away at his sanity, and devoured him from within. And he finally reached a point where he realized he was doing everything wrong.
So he stops everything. Kaneki decides he needs to stop and all he can do is to “sleep and have a happy dream”, because he doesn't know how else to go back, how to stop being ugly, and realizes that all of his fighting has been about his own loneliness, which continues to plague him and won't stop because of the world he lives in and the world he built/destroyed for himself.
He shoved away his mother's words and accepted he had to become stronger and hurt others, but because of his trauma, Kaneki was not able to control himself and he was not able to become strong the right way where others would be protected rather than hurt. He thought keeping everyone away would work, but even then he is still hurting Touka, whom he abandoned, just like he is hurting Banjou who he did NOT abandon. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. So the best way is just to sleep. Forever.

Some appreciation for Ishida's character writing...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I like that Rize never let go of her hatred. She began her journey wanting to bite the hands of those that tried to hold her down.
Tumblr media
And despite knowing that her actions led her towards greater suffering, she continues to resent Kaneki, who, in turn, decides to accept his failures and moves forward in hopes of becoming a better person.
Tumblr media
She even goes as far as to try to 'drown' him herself when he fails to drown the first time.
Tumblr media
It is an attitude that can be seen with multiple characters as they face their respective downfalls; Urie with his need for strength, Shiro with her vengeance, Mutsuki with his obsessive jealousy, and particularly Furuta, who cannot accept and move on from his disillusioned dream for a domestic life. What connects all these characters, including Rize, is their inability to move on, fixating on the wrongs they've experienced to justify their destructive behaviour. Kaneki also fell into this downward spiral in the first series, hence why it is a tragedy that ends with this 'death'.
But he learns, painfully, the fault in this way of thinking, and though others are forced to do the same during a pivotal moment in their development, (which can even include their deaths), Rize holds onto her hatred until the very end. Does she die resentful? Angry? Disappointed? Either way, it's a great moment of character writing, paralleling Kaneki's growth with Rize's refusal to change, working cyclically with the series -- just as her actions led to her demise in the first chapter, she dies bitterly a second time, at the hands of the man she deemed responsible for her suffering. It's cruelly ironic.
It's not perfect, but it does bring Touka some solace, being able to move on instead of fixating on a destructive sentimentality, like revenge. She can heal, she can grow, and she does, epitomised with her relationship with Kaneki and the conception of their child.
And what helps Kaneki move on in this way? Well, in contrast to Rize's refusal to develop, Touka stands as the antithesis of her characterisation. Touka is initially driven by the same violent rage that drives many others in the series, as touched on before. She kills the investigators hunting Hinami, as well as investigator Mado, but it doesn't bring her peace, especially when considering how she witnessed her father going down the same path, and then Ayato. And then Kaneki. After seeing the fruitlessness of exerting this rage, she refuses to be the same, instead focusing on the pacifism that Yoshimura tried to teach her.
Tumblr media
The same pacifism Kaneki tries to reject before killing Yamori, notably following his acceptance of his ghoul side, as visualised with his figurative consumption of Rize.
And Kaneki, in turn, learns from her, abandoning his idealisation of Rize as a pinnacle of strength, and understanding, finally, that following her shadow will only ever result in his death. Instead, he'll follow the light that Touka brings into his life, her faith, her love, and her stability creating a home he can return to. And with a home, he can believe that this meandering journey has a destination he can strive towards. Of course, this home goes on to encapsulate all those he loves, but Touka remains the foundation within his mind.
Tumblr media
There's beauty in acceptance, in seeing a purpose in one's bad experiences. It's something I can certainly relate to, refusing nihilism by accepting that, in the end, the world just is.
