波[Nami] : Wave; also written as 浪

小灰蝶[Shijimi] : Gossamer-winged butterfly, Lycaenidae

The flower the one is perched on in the photo is 小栴檀草[Kosendangusa](Bidens pilosa var. pilosa).

Uranamishijimi(s) come from south and travel north, and can be seen in autumn in the Kantō region where I live. Then, they head further north. Their bodies are covered with long hair, but when they can no longer stand the cold, will die without surviving the winter.

The length of its forewing is about two centimeters. The hind wings have black eye-like patterns and antenna-like protrusions. The frontside of the wings is brown with blue blending closer to the body. And, the underside of the wings looks like waves, hence the name.
