ok so i'm very much not normal about one au i made but i'm not sure if it will be interesting to anybody. but still hear me out!

what do you think about toxic weird but kinda caring family dynamic between turbo and vanny? sorta jinx and silco situation if you know what i mean. if turbo didn't made vanellope an outcast (but still damaged her code while making himself the king what gave her glitching anyway) and decided to manipulate her and becoming a fucked up father figure or something to be 100% sure that she won't ruin his plan. but while time passed he actually started to get attached to her (i mean who wouldn't) and the feeling became stronger due the parental traits of his disguise (i hc that king candy's sprite was supposed to be a real character so the bunch of racer-children aren't technically alone in this world without any adult, but the devs decided to remove him, leaving scraps of who king candy could've been in the code. when turbo got into sugar rush he had a perfect mask to wear - but in the end some bits of og candy personality got stick on him, which had a small impact on his perseption of vanellope and other citizens of sugar rush)

but even tho turbo starts to see vanny as his actual daughter and genuinely care about her, he has zero clue how to love or be loved besides praising the shit out of someone. so he's still a greedy selfish dude who just decided to count vanellope as a part of the "brand". only him and her are allowed to be the best, only they can rule this place and two of them are above all and anyone else. and in some way vanny's personality mitigates his views, making him a little more bearable, mostly he just makes her worse. she is a spoiled little brat (and i love her) and turbo would destroy the entire arcade for her well being. at some point i see that he would even trust her with his real backstory (withholding several details, but still), she definitely will see his real face bc of touching while she's glitching and help him accept himself a little bit

idk, i just love imagining their possible dynamic, i think their duo would've been amazing if they weren't enemies so i'm putting it into this au (with some spice in a form of toxic but caring only about each other family trope)

what r ur thoughts about mel in general

mel is so mother, not in a bland girlboss way that people assign female characters they don't actually care about but don't want to be sexist but in a way that I imagine she could inflict emotional violence on me I would think about for decades and also in a gay way because she serves ultimate cunt. I don't like the two ends of the spectrum she gets though, it's either people thinking she is only an evil capitalist manipulator (she is a capitalist but let's not talk about arcanes class worldbuilding issues again lmao) or that she only ever had pure intentions - she did manipulate jayce, she absolutely did work her charm and found cracks in him she could dig her fingers in to make him work the way she wanted and THEN realised she genuinely cares for him. and I love that, I love that she likes a man who is stupider than her and then gets charmed by how earnest he is in his dumbassery

mels issue is fandom is that she's a black woman and people are racist djdjdjkdk and she's attached to a storyline and a man that is largely taken over in fandom landscape by a slash ship so she's always gonna lose, the fact that meljay is a rareship slays me dhsjjs and also her storyline starts kind of late in the season, like it doesn't really kick off until ambessa shows up and by then you have viktor committing unethical experiments and dying and the whole zaun storyline unfolding and everything surrounding jinx-silco-vi triangle is just so enrapturing in its insanity mel stood no chance

but ngl her storyline with ambessa has me gagged, I like gasped when ambessa went BECAUSE YOU WEAKENED ME like the way mel this whole time thought she just didn't live up to ambessas standard and then the realisation that ambessa felt like mel was putting her up to a standard she couldn't live up to and didn't want to accept and that the values she thought she couldn't embody that ambessa did are the reason she was exiled aaaaaaaaa. I hope they get more spotlight next season and noxus becomes more relevant because you see a set number of ways mother daughter relationships are portrayed in media and its rare that there's this sort of violence and strong mindedness present in them the way it often is in father son relationships. I love that mels arc is her rejecting her motherland and their values and building something for herself (like her taking off her family ring and voting for jayces peace treaty even tho the treaty was fucking stupid... jayce is real for that dumb idea just so we could get mels cunt moment and silcos mother coded sophies choice arc)

also there's mels brother who we don't know much about, we know that he was important to mel because duh he's her brother but also she looked up to him in some way. but because arcane moves so fast with its plot she doesn't even get a moment to grieve him

I don't write mel fics a lot tho, just because mel is somewhat smarter than me and that becomes an issue when she has to be written by me, a dumbass. and i cant combat that unlike with another character like with silco who is somewhat smarter than me but he is also extremely delusional and I can balance these out to make it work. acc maybe I need to figure out how to make her more delusional

One thing that I noticed but haven't seen really anyone discussing (tho I might just not be looking in the right place), but I am 100% sure Fortiche set up every single shot of Silco being very aware of his eyes. There are only a few shots where we see him straight on, each eye getting equal prominence. Every other shot, one eye is closer or more prominent.

Look at the scene where he meets Jinx. He crouches down menacingly and we see him in profile, only seeing his 'evil' eye. Then she hugs him and we see his full face. The evil eye is closer to the camera, but the shot is so close that we're drawn to looking at his 'human' eye as he processes what Jinx is saying. Then it's back to profile, just the evil eye as he says "We'll show them all".

Seriously you can rewatch every scene with him and it adds a whole new level to the cinematography

I agree. In general Fortiche seems extremely aware of their character design. Silco feels like he was created by someone with a keen understanding of compelling antagonists. You could have him be just a ratty faced man, we love those too, and Silco has an intensity to him as a character that makes him mesmerising (besides having insane agency throughout the show), but they knew the eye would make him that much more compelling.

Not only is it sort of gross, it's impossible for us to look away... There's a sort of double meaning to it. Half the mark that reveals the true colours of a monster, half the scar of a victim of violence. I love the fact this was inflicted by our token starter pack good guy. I love the fact it deteriorates over the duration of the show.

It seems to say that trauma doesn't go away, that the curse of past pains and struggles is something that grows, that can't be concealed.

It matches Silco, a character who never rests on his achievements and keeps looking forward, despite his lack of sight (there's no way he doesn't have piss poor vision in that eye).

I'd like to think Jinx designed the eye logo for him... It has a "big brother is watching" flavour, but is very iconic for Silco. If someone in Zaun can have an eye for a logo it's him.

You're right that the black eye is often coded with darker moments. We zoom on it only when he asks Jinx to complete the weapon... But we often see both in intense close ups, because Silco is both sides, the monster and the well meaning zealot.

It's such a cleaver piece of character design! It tells us so much about him in so few words! And the way he applies make up, now that he has to "play" as the industrialist, is a whole other piece of silent world building that the fans latched on to like rabbid dogs... I want to know who designed him, and I want to see the early character design sketches soooo badly.

ahh how could I possibly choose? I love most things about them, but I think I'd have to say their design? very striking and perfectly suits her character.

this might change in the next season, but for now I'm a little disappointed that I get the feeling arcane's jinx is fighting for zaun because of personal attachments instead of an actual ideological goal. she went with vi because she wanted to feel included/useful, she advances silco's plans because she wants validation from him, and she hates enforcers because they've been personally harmful to her family. there's nothing wrong with any of that character-wise, but the problem is that I don't think she would care about the rift between piltover and zaun if she was promised a good life with vi or silco, which isn't something I could say about her league predecessor. again, that might change in the future, but for now she just doesn't seem to have the revolutionary spirit that the rest of my favorite zaunites do.

don’t think I have one? I do have an hc that I feel conflicted about tho. I’m actually gonna open up this prompt to any of my trans followers since I want to know how y’all feel about Jinx being trans-coded. on one hand, I definitely see the parallels with her theme of transformation, dead-naming, etc., but Jinx is also the result of trauma and in part a denial of herself as a whole (as in Silco—a parent figure—only saying “Jinx is perfect” instead of asking if that’s who she really is or wants to be, even insisting that their old self needs to be destroyed). that part of it just feels kinda...terfy. sorry, I know that’s a sensitive subject, so definitely leave any input if I’ve said something off-base. it’s just something I’ve been thinking a lot about.

Miraculous Ladybug Ghost Master AU.

Marinette Dupain Cheng dies.

She doesn’t know why. She doesn’t know how. She barely remembers about her life before her death.

All she knows, is that it wasn’t her fault, and that she still needs to stay on the mortal plane and do... something, she’s not sure what, but this nagging feeling is stopping her from moving on, so the Bureau of Astral Affairs, taking advantage of her strong plasmic essence, decides to employ her as the Ghost Master... er, Mistress of Paris, just in time as the previous one, Master Fu, is just about to retire and ascend into the light, with the code name Ladybug, to help her overcome her grudge.

She is tasked with taking leadership of a small group of lost souls in Paris and use it to solve the problems other trapped or grudge holding ghosts and specters in the city, recruiting them in case they were to not ascend to the light as a result of that, or deal with mortals meddling with the spiritual world, thus, even if she weren’t to remember what she was supposed to do, her service to the bureau will net her enough good karma to one day move on from her mortal grudge and ascend to the light.

Her team is composed by:

Chat Noir, a Mane (Ghost of someone who met a untimely death and ended up trapped in his own corpse). He can posses people, and has luck based haunting powers in addition to corpse and destruction related ones. He also doesn’t remember much about his life aside from some brief, positive memories about his mother and a giant, burly man. He knows his body was trapped beneath a recently destroyed mansion (His house perhaps), and his soul was freed when, several years after the collapse, some mortals, guided from the shadows by the previous ghost master, finally managed to find his body beneath the rubble, in the basement of the house, allowing him to posses the nearest human and escape his bodily prison.

Rena Rouge, a Apparition (Ghost of a Murder Victim). She was a journalist who learned too much about the dealings of a local fashion mogul and businessman, and was killed off as a result. She’s still searching for a way to expose him to the mortal authorities, hence her still being trapped on the mortal realm. Chat Noir somehow doesn’t feel comfortable about any of this.

Jade Turtle, a Wraith, the ghost who suffered a particularly horrific death, usually related to electricity, he was a skilled musician and movie director, but when his journalist girlfriend was killed in mysterious circumstances, he went into a deep depression, and seemingly killed himself. In truth, he never accepted his girlfriend being gone and, despite her constant presence at his side in the form of a ghost, out of grief tried to find out what happened to her, only to be discovered and later killed as a result, throwing him in his bathtub alongside an electrical appliance, his girlfriend watching powerlessly, her mild powers as a newborn ghost only allowing her to mildly influence the situation, only allowing her to attract mortals to help when it was too late, at least to find the body. He has given up on vengeance, and is just happy to be back together with his girlfriend again, now helping her in her new mission.

Queen Bee, a Fetch, the ghost of a vain mortal, now trapped inside mirrors and reflections. She died due to a accident, which caused her to fall off her balcony down to the ground below. Currently having a blast in her new, “Can make people ugly or beautiful as I see fit with my mirror powers” life... er, unlife. Some times she misses her friend and father tho, wondering when she will see them again.

Ryuko, a Banshee, the ghost of a woman who suffered a violent and unjust death, she used o be a fencer, but when her team partner, rival and best friend, a home schooled rich boy, disappeared and his mansion collapsed due to mysterious circumstances, she suffered a heavy hit. She was one of the mortals who discovered Adrien’s Body thanks to the aid of the previous ghost master, and was in fact the mortal he ended up possessing in order to break free. The experience took a hit on her already vulnerable mind, and ended up opening a door to the astral plane. This is when the voice started, a sickly sweet voice promising her power and the ability to achieve anything as long as she listened to it, and which ultimately only lead her to find a altar in a secluded location in the mansion ruins and activate it, losing her life in the process to power it, allowing... something, to come back. Not that she remembers anything of this, or exactly how she managed to escape from there and be found by the previous Ghost Master, just that she has a really deep grudge against... something, and she just knows that she finds Chat Noir particularly  annoying in some way, but can’t really pin point why or why she almost cried when he saw him for the first time.

Viperion, a Phantom, the ghost of someone with a artistic or eccentric mind, was killed by a greedy music manager trying to cover the fact he plagiarized his songs, currently still on the mortal plane until his sister and mother pass out too.

Plagg, a Gremlin (Ghost of a animal who died due to a piece of technology). He has the unique powers Jinx Storm (Allows him to jinx everyone in the area, unlike usual Luck Storm, who gives out jinxes and charms equally) and Chaos Surge (ALL electronic appliances in the building will short out, shocking everyone near them and potentially destroying them). He claims to be the ghost of a Cat who was killed when the pinball he was resting on short circuited, frying him on the spot.

Tikki, a Horde (Ghost of a sentient swarm of animals, usually insects). She’s a swarm of sentient ladybugs who has taken form, or so she appears. She has the unique power Charm Storm, which charmes everyone in the area, giving them good luck and prosperity, but also a higher susceptibility to the supernatural.

Both Plagg and Tikki are however actually Shadows, Elder Gods reduced into Ghost Form to influence the mortal world, who have been overseeing the city of Paris from long before the previous ghost master even existed as a mortal. Their true motives and identities, while unclear to the other members, are actually to track down the other Shadows, currently trapped into this reality, and depart with them back into the spiritual world, hence their aid in trying to free as many ghosts as possible from their mortal issues.

One of such Shadows, Nooroo, is actually the reason why most of this mess is happening.

Gabriel Agreste, occultist, fashion mogul and corrupt businessman, following the writings and the research of 1970′s deranged doctors Krauss and Brunner, actually tried to summon a powerful shadow, the Darkling, a long forgotten elder deity of murder and despair, made out of the grime and soot that comes out of the souls that ascend to the light, who had already been laid to rest, in order to use its powers in order to revive his deceased wife, but couldn’t meet the quota of souls to feed this powerful entity, only ending up summoning Nooroo, another Shadow, in the form of a Horde of Butterflies, the ritual now unhinged by the sudden switch in ghosts, causing the mansion to collapse. Gabriel perishes, but due to a unforeseen trick of fate, Nooroo becomes bonded to him.

Now, as Hawkmoth, a Spectre, the ghost of a man who lived a particularly violent life, he plans to remain on the mortal plane as long as possible, using his newfound shadow to create new ghosts to enslave and do his bidding with, with the help of his assistant Nathalie, still alive and willingly doing his bidding in the mortal world, and still searching for his missing wife and a way to bring her, himself, and their dead son back into the realm of the living.

Unless the new Ghost Mistress, Marinette Dupain Cheng, the only being capable to lead and empower ghosts to their fullest, the only being who can lift them from their brainwashing, who can understand the complex reasoning behind their trappings and their issues and solve it all for them, stops him first.

No matter where Jinx (personal) storyline goes in s2 I want them to keep the message of her being both a victim and a culprit of the violence the current system stands for. It’s so interesting to me how Jinx existence symbolizes this while Jinx herself doesn’t operate on ideology or morality at all. She acts fully on emotions.

Of course all the characters are products of the world they live in but they all have some sort of Ideals and an idea of what the world around them is. Jinx doesn’t really. Or at least that’s not what matters to her or her actions.

Im not saying they can’t or shouldn’t explore Jinx becoming more aware of her own worldview but I quite enjoy seeing a character so fully motivated on her inner world and her desires.

Jinx doesn’t fit in anywhere in her current world because she is both a victim and a culprit for all sides of the conflict.

For anyone to completely accept Jinx they have to reject not only the rules of the world but also their own ideals.

Silco was about to do that and that is what he tells Jinx just before dying.

Whether that is good or bad is a whole other question.

I literally love the theme of a character being both the victim and the victimiser and jinx is such a great version of it because she's not even a good victim. like for example, yes, her relationship with silco is toxic and she's not at fault for it because she was a child in a care of an adult so she had inherently less power than he would in this dynamic but still, she grew into it, she leaned into it, she related to it and it's not a tie she would want to sever. she did work for him and she enjoyed that work, she enjoyed the violence, its not something he ever inflicted on her but silcos influence and his power over her and the fact that he is the root of her trauma in the first place are undeniable

her trauma turned her into the worst version of herself and while arcane treats her mental state with compassion and nuance, it's still obvious she is just not a good person at her core, she isn't a caring or sympathetic victim. I looove the theme of how this violence is further perpetuated by undercity on undercity and I don't like when the fandom fully forgets about it (it mostly happens with silco because jinx would have to do good instead of pure evil for that to apply to her but yk)

I think her inner world and impulsive selfish desires will always take precedent but there's definitely a room for her to grow her own goals that aren't necessarily tied to her relationships - and that goal can be just fucking bitches up, I'm not saying it has to be an overarching ideal that she operates on from this point forward but it's interesting to think of jinx on her own since she's been so codependent with vi and silco up to this point

also people who love jinx have to reject not only their ideals, really they have to reject themselves because to love unconditionally like that and be someone's entire support system does mean to forego a part of yourself (like a lot of parents, especially moms, discover lmao*) and jinx doesn't love people in a way that allows them to be their own people. she cares, in a way, but in a selfish self absorbed way and I love her for how destructive and difficult and poisonous her love is

i think im too jinxpilled bcs i genuinely think all the messed up things jinx did in s1 all had understandable sympathizable (tho not always justifiable) reasons. like even her knocking vi out kidnapping cait and setting up that tea party. she had that dream in singe's lab where vi shot powder and powder is replaced with cait. the tea party is her cornering vi to shoot cait as jinx's way of proving that that dream of her replacing powder with cait isn't true.

and tbh i would call her insane for going to such lengths but on another hand i get it bcs she knows vi as the most anti-piltover girlie out there so for her protecting cait from her gives jinx a lot of terrible implications, like vi hates jinx so much she'd choose not simply a cop but also a councilman's daughter over her & the simple idea of this destroys her.

like idk in my eyes jinx kept committing extremeties not simply bcs she's jinx but bcs the story itself keeps feeding into her anxieties until eventually it all blows up & that makes all the hateful views on her based on this feel a little unfair. only thing worth hating her for is her killing off the firelights remorselessly. or ig jinx being a person that only uncompromisngly perceives things at two different extreme ends of a spectrum can be frustrating to some which is fair (tho is that not part of her bpd coding?/gen)

I mean they were understandable and sympathetic on purpose, like by design the show wants you to identify and feel for jinx. which I think works really well for a character like this, both because of her body count and because the league version started from such low bar sjsjjsks and also I do think s2 outlines those external circumstances somewhat well like the wealth gap and such and the way it focuses on how past actions like vander and silcos backstory contributes to what happens now and guides the choices that other characters make. but some people just don't like characters committing atrocities which personally couldn't be me because I think thats when they are at their best and also I love somewhat insane women anyway
