Remmick is becoming super divisive in the fandom and I'm feeling bad for Ryan Coogler
As someone who isn't the biggest fan of Remmick (don't come for me, actor is cute, and I do think the character is funny and interestingly written and I've seen a few fics that are legitimately good) I don't get why people are saying the Sinners fandom is ignoring the PoC characters in favor of him and it's an insult to the film and it's themes.
For one, Ryan Coogler loves the character. He loves Irish culture. He says in BTS interviews he intended to write Remmick as someone who genuinely isn't racist and sees segregation as complete bullshit. Now, his actions and motivations are purposefully tied to themes of white assimilation and cultural appropriation and a lot of his character is still left to speculation; it's one of the reasons why I think people are churning out so much content of him, they find it easier to interpret Remmick as a character who's history and motivations aren't completely revealed. As a character, he can and at least partially is a reference to what white people have historically done to oppress other cultures/colonization, despite also being a victim of said oppression.
As for people shipping him with Sammie, I don't like the ship, but I saw it coming the first screening. People, especially tumblr fanfic girlies, love shipping villains and antagonists with the character who's the hero/protagonist/audience surrogate. Sammie is central to the plot, but he's also who the audience can step into the shoes of the most and as a result, people can project themselves onto him more. Also, tumblr girlies fucking love hyperfiaxting on the "I can change him" characters. Remmick is basically a tumblr sexyman. And it's not just white people writing reader inserts or focusing on him (side note, I haven't seen the plantation reader story and I hope to God I never do) there's a good number of black users and other users of various ethnicities I see posting content centered around Remmick. Everyone seems to thirst for this character and to be fair, Ryan Coogler meant for people to enjoy him as much as any of the other characters, even if he absolutely wants to centered black stories and culture in his work.
Still, it seems like once again a white character is becoming a fan favorite in a piece of media with a predominantly black cast, meant to be beloved by black people, albeit not exclusively. It fucking grating when you get representation and you want to interact with the fandom but it's seemingly overtaken by people focusing on the white guy.
While I don't think racial bias is the only reason Remmick is getting so much attention, I don't doubt for some fans thats exactly what it is (plantation reader insert, really? Fucking really?). But I'm not black so I'm not going to pretend I get it exactly. As a PoC, I can only empathize to an extent. There's valid reasons to be irritated and fed up so I'm not saying people who want to vent or post about their frustration shouldn't. That's not my place at all.
Mostly I just feel kind of bad for Ryan Coogler who actually put a lot of effort to write this enjoyable villain and Remmick's getting as much backlash as he is getting love from Sinners fans. And I don't think people making fan content for the character automatically means they're disregarding any of the black characters. People are also going feral over Bo and Grace and they love the Choctaw for the teeny amount of their screen time, but I don't see anyone claiming that fans of them are decentralizing the black characters in favor of them.
Also, on the subject of Sinners fan content, I want more Annie x Reader fics. But that's beside the point, she's just my personal favorite and I want to fantasize about her being in love with me because there's no way irl it would ever happen. 🥲

Why don't we talk about how Melvika is extremely overrated for a ship that makes no sense and ruins the characters
I mean, I usually love crackships, they're often interesting and can reveal the characters from new sides and make an unusual dynamic
Even in Arcane there are some good or not bad crackships that I treat fine, but Melvika? Seems like the only reason why it exists is bc the fandom likes headcanoning them wlw and bc it's a "masculine"/"feminine" dynamic which for some reason is often a must have in any wlw ship
But the problem is that Sevika absolutely despises pilties, esp from the council and would never tolerate Mel, it just goes against all her views and arc. While also the fans love turning Sevika into some dog/slave/servant for Mel that stays on her side and goes against Zaun. Should I even explain how classisit and disgusting it is? And how much it mischaracterises and downplays Sevika who would never be like this for a piltie? Even while working for Silco she afforded herself being openly rude to him and was completely honest that she would betray him if there's someone better for Zaun, cuz she did it for her own views, not for Silco. Also in most of the content Mel is some manipulative madame who uses Sevika as either some lady-in-waiting or a personal knight, which makes no sense for Sevika either.
.It's even worse with Sembessa cuz besides all that Ambessa also caused so much problems to the undercity and used its discrimination against it btw, but at least it's not as popular
While Mel, who grew up with a cold mother who appreciated violence and was against peaceful ways of resolving the conflicts, would have no reasons to fond for someone who's for radical methods of fight who would never cooperate or compromise with those from the opposite side. Considering with what Mel loved in Jayce: his softness, aspiration of the innovations, faith in the best for everyone and some naiveness about it. Their frankness, sort of valnurability, tenderness, emotionality and sensuality were a huge part of the relationship that made Mel feel loved and cared about. Obviously, we didn't see how Sevika act in relationship, but she didn't show any of it, even when she had a lot of emotions inside, we haven't seen her showing any emotion besides anger so there are no reasons to think she would be open enough for Mel, since she never was with anyone else it's out of character for her, which is why I don't think their relationship could work out or even start in the first place
I'm free for other opinions tho and would glad to hear what other people think about them

Racism in the ace community is seen as a joke from the outside and a confusing concept in the inside but it's pretty bait tbh:
Barbie, Wednesday and Elsa are ace-coded but not canon aces but they're widely accepted as ace icons in the community. Lacking genitalia, disliking romance and being single are not inherently asexual yet the community happily claims them as ace solely on those reasons. But Selah Summers? Nah she actually didn't say the words "aroace" even though the director confirmed it so she didn't really count. Abbi Singh? Nah she had a girlfriend and her superpower is being a succubus and it's not like the Imperfects actually addressed the themes of an asexual lesbian South Asian woman and her sexuality or anything. Fei Hargreeves? Well yeah the actress and producer confirmed it but she never said it on screen. Ace characters of colour always get held "screened" for approval to be "real rep" in a way white aces aren't its so weird (this also happens to gay aces but that's another post)
Almost anything involving Yasmin Benoit. The reason she's unacceptable ace rep is because of misogynoir. She's spoken so many times about never dating and not having sex (which mind you is none of our business and she shouldn't need to explain herself in the 1st place) and yet she's "too sexual" to represent the community. Again with the nitpicking, popular white ace accounts were so quick to dogpile her for not-so-good takes but when she speaks about racism? Crickets. When she spoke about sexual harassment? Crickets and not only that but they defended her harasser. The main ace activists that defended her were other Black aspecs.
Not understanding how desexualisation affects POC. Specifically, Black women are excluded from representations of love and sex because we're seen as undesirable. It's common for TV/Film to pair up everyone but the Black girl, or have a rebound Black partner for the non-Black main character who's disposed of when they're ready for their "real" non-Black partner again. This isn't done for Black aspecs benefit. It's a form of dehumanisation. Friendship especially in m/f is needed but exclusively pushing for friendship between Black women and non-Black men when there is romance coded or confirmed and shaming Black women in fandom or in show for shipping the Black female character is not doing what you think its doing.
Not understanding how sexualisation effects POC. Again linking to Yasmin, POC, especially Black people have been sexualised due to white supremacy. The "allosexual privilege" framework fails to acknowledge this because Black people's sexual attraction and sex is seen as aggressive and animalistic. Black people aren't "allowed" to be ace because of this sexualisation and why Yasmin regardless of what she wears or does is seen is too promiscuous.
Not acknowledging ace POC as ace rep. Again, where was the acknowledgement of Selah and the Spades as groundbreaking rep? The first aroace darkskin Black girl as a lead in any film? Sherronda J Brown spoke about Big Mouth's Black ace character and someone said it didn't count just bc they dislike the show. Again with Abbi and Fei the community didn't make noise for them like they did Todd from Bojack Horseman or Florence from Sex Ed (mind you the gap between how they did Florence vs O is jarring in itself) Isaac from Heartstopper was inspirational for many aspecs and I wont take that away but the way he's instantly credited for ace representation when he has so little screentime compared to the others is wild.
Just tired tbh. "Listen to POC aces!" "POC aces are valid!" Prove it then...?
#venting bout ace stuff again#i got more to say too lol#asexual representation#black asexuals#black asexual#ace representation#black ace#black aces#asexual#asexuality

I really loved your “Forgotten Royal” story. You have a really clear and emotion-vise descriptive writing style.
I was wondering, what caused Pierre to (attempt to) run away from Lucas? Based on the piece, I thought they were biologically related. Why was Lucas’ first response to break his leg?
Unless he was kidnapped too. Lucas would be collecting family members like pokemon cards.
Pierre is Lucas's biologically related brother! As the younger brother, and the 'spare' in this time period, he wasn't really needed around the palace as Lucas was the one set to inherit everything. However, Lucas saw his younger brother as weak and latched onto him.
When Pierre was old enough, he was arranged to marry a high standing noblewoman from a kingdom over. Lucas was pissed that their parents would send Pierre away and fought with them. When they refused to undo the contract they 'disappeared'.
Pierre knew that Lucas had something to do with it and decided to try and get away before something happened to him as well. A servant snitched on him, to save their own skin, and Pierre was caught rather quickly. Pierre refused to apologize and kept on yelling at Lucas and accusing him of murdering their parents (which he totally did do).
Lucas got angry at his defiance and broke his leg so 'he couldn't run even if he tried to'. The royal physician was ordered to make sure he wouldn't be in medical danger from the broken leg but not to set it completely. This leads to Pierre's limp and pain from his leg in the future.
The reason behind it is that Lucas sees Pierre as his the same way he sees Y/N as his. He treats them kind of like objects that belong to him. As long as they're with him and can't leave, barring medical emergencies and similar situations, he doesn't care what condition they're in.
Bonus lore: Pierre refused to talk to Lucas for a good three months after he broke his leg. Lucas eventually resorted to removing all servants from helping him and personally bringing his meals so his only option for communication was Lucas.
Pierre also has a collection of different canes Lucas has had crafted for him, including one inlaid with the jewels from the signature necklace of the noblewoman he was set to marry. She also 'disappeared' when Lucas's armies took over her kingdom. Pierre's favorite is a simple wooden one he bought himself while being brought along on Lucas's travels, simply because it was one he chose.
Pierre has kind of accepted his place purely because he knows he can't run away. He just tries to make things better for himself and keep Lucas occupied before he snatches someone else off the streets (Y/N being snatched was an outlier and thus shouldn't count because he was sleeping and Lucas typically never leaves the ship without telling him).

Incredibly long analysis on Oda's thoughts on romance, way of portraying romance and LuNami in One Piece
Okay, so I want to make a LOOOOONG post about something interesting that's been on my mind for a while, about romance in One Piece. I was originally going to post it on Twitter but this post is way too long for that platform. I always preferred posting here, but not too many people are here nowadays. Anyway, onto the main topic here. I'll be talking about Oda's portrayal of and thoughts about romance, how he views it, why he puts a good chunk of it in "non-canon" material and so on. This post is to understand Oda's perspective on romance and why he goes about it the way he goes about it. I'm a LuNami fan, so this is also to make a point about how he decides to portray them.
Do not read this if you don’t want to see me express unfavorable opinions (and also factual information) about LuHan and other ships I just don't see working out, as they basically don’t fall in line with how romance works in Oda’s work. I'm not mean-spirited about it though. (Also I'll be bringing up SanPu for a bit too, in a favorable way) I am guaranteed to get at least one eyebrow raise or a "What the fuck are you talking about?" from any person reading this whole thing, but that's fine. I'll only tag LuNami because this is for LuNami fans.
Anyhow, in an interview with Aoyama back in 2022, Oda stated how he doesn’t want to include actual romance into his story and how he’s fine with one-sided stuff. His reason is because he fears he would lose certain fans for doing so. This is an interesting statement.

First, if you read this up here, it essentially confirms how Oda doesn’t see one-sided affection as romance so there’s no reason to think that Sanji or Boa’s affection are hints when they’re both for comedic effect.
The reason they're one-sided in the first place is not because he's teasing you with the idea that the other might return that affection one day, no he treats it as a joke, it's as straightforward as that. I don't understand how people try to act like it's not purely for humor. If he intended on making something like Boa and Luffy’s relationship as something to seriously consider being “romance” then Boa wouldn’t be so humorously delusional even after being rejected twice in back to back chapters, she’d be taken aback at the very least. But doesn’t. Why? It’s a joke.
I mean for heaven’s sake, whenever this gag is used with Nyon around, she’s the voice of reason, y’know, a woman who also experienced the same kind of delusional love once? Again it’s all a joke, the entire point of Boa’s gag is that it’s love that’s supposed unreciprocated.

Also, the second time he rejected her was him rejecting her before she even got to ask anything...

This lets us know that Luffy knows how persistent she in trying to get with him and also implying that Luffy is going to say no, no matter what, as he knows how desperate and persistent she is about it. Now that I think about it, Rayleigh left Luffy to train by himself for 6 months before the timeskip fully ended, Rayleigh's supervision made it to where Boa couldn't get to Luffy, but after he left, was fully capable of doing so. I mean just look at Boa down here:

Yeah she said she won't go and remain strong for Luffy's sake, but with her being the way she is, I wouldn't be surprised if Boa in those 6 months went to the island and was asking Luffy multiple times which was how he was able to reject her before even knowing. If what we saw in Chapter 598 was the first time he rejected her, he wouldn't be so quick to know that she was gonna ask it again when he rejected her the 2nd time on panel. We know that the Kuja girls KNEW that Rayleigh left half a year ago as well, meaning they must've gotten to the island itself if they found this out. Unless Rayleigh told them directly, which, to be fair, is likely, but if he didn't, this implies that Boa has been talking to Luffy on the island in those 6 months, and if so, would definitely have brought up marriage at least once, or a lot, honestly, thus explaining Luffy being able to shut down her marriage request before even knowing what she was going to say, because he already heard it THAT much in those 6 months. Now, I don't truly believe that Oda thought of it like that, but it does make logical sense so I figured "why not bring it up".
Also, in a 2014 interview with Fuji TV about the 3D2Y special, Oda's editor mentioned that not only Buggy but BOA bring in the comedic elements into the arc and how they're comic relief characters, again making it obvious that even his editors understand that Boa’s infatuation is a complete joke for the sake of comedy. Same with Sanji. Being a gentleman is part of his character but he tries to score every woman. Why? Jokes.
Even if you somehow use the argument of “Oh but this behavior of his is even stronger towards Nami specifically” I don’t see how any of that can be seen as a “shipping hint” and not a gag that’s exaggerated even further, cause he’s still hitting on every woman. Besides, the first time he actually got his heart broken by a woman was by Pudding, and never Nami, Robin and every other woman despite getting rejected a billion times by them. Why? Because the Nami/Robin affection is for comedy while the story between Sanji and Pudding is supposed to be taken seriously.

It's why Oda went out of his way for Sanji to write a dedicated story between the two, with Sanji getting genuinely sad when Pudding talked shit about him only for everything to turn around by the end where she actually likes him. THAT is a romance story with substance behind it, and Oda clearly wrote it like there is merit to it. There is obviously a story written here with a beginning to an end, Sanji acts no different towards Nami in Wano than in say, Punk Hazard. Beginning of Whole Cake vs end of Whole Cake Sanji is on entirely different terms with Pudding and she is on entirely different terms with him. There is development, a plot, a purpose that impacts the plot. Not just "Haha jokes".
Soooo yeah that’s the first thing I wanted to address regarding that statement.
Second, Oda saying “I don’t want to include romance because I don’t wanna lose fans” may seem like an odd thing for him to say at first given how Oda post-timeskip portrays actual romance in his story, and plenty of times, I might add. This was when Oden/Toki was relatively fresh too so there’s no way he forgot he did so. Because of that, Oda is referring to romance for specific characters rather than for the characters he’s already written romance stories about.
So this basically means that Oda’s fear of losing readers obviously doesn’t stem from the romance stories he has already written, it’s very clear from the interview that he’s hesitant to write romance out of fear of losing some of his readers. But of course as we know, he clearly has written blatant romance already, primarily with non-main characters like Rebecca’s parents, Rouge/Roger, etc. It makes plenty of sense for Oda to not be afraid or hesitant to write romance stories/romantic elements for those non-main characters.
Because well, those stories written are basically all backstories that are over in a few chapters (Senor Pink/Russian) or briefly talked about (like the aforementioned Rouge and Roger.) As such, there’s no long-term impact on the story.
Notice how in the only case of a STRAW HAT having a blatant romance story (Sanji/Pudding), it is a character who's most defining character trait is his lovey dovey/romantic behavior? Oda most likely felt more comfortable giving a romance story to Sanji specifically as that goes with his personality, and likely felt he would not be getting backlash for giving the LOVE cook a romantic story. (Because again keep in mind he clearly stated he's hesitant to include romance due to losing fans of the characters getting romantically involved)
But STILL, even with all of that, the impact of this love story from Sanji's perspective is just erased entirely as Pudding erased his memories, as if Oda is being particularly protective of the Straw Hats getting impacted by any obviously permanent romantic development. (Because as I said SanPu is on entirely different terms from the beginning to the end of WCI, so their romance plot had impact on the story.)
So, because of how romance in One Piece is basically all deceased/minor characters having short backstories or in the case of the one Straw Hat who got a blatant romance story, (I said blatant cause you could say Usopp/Kaya, but it’s not super obviously blatant the way SanPu is) erased from his brain, there’s no obvious long-term impact that romance seems to have in One Piece.
I very much think that this “obvious long-term impact” is what Oda wants to avoid so badly, particularly for the Straw Hats (the main characters of the story). This is because this long-term impact would make it apparent to his readers that romance has a fundamental and established role in the story of One Piece as something important, which goes against his target audience of boys, who, from his point of view, don’t like it.
This idea Oda has stems from how Jump used to be when he was a kid, as clearly stated in the interview with Aoyama. It’s his own experiences with how boys manga are “supposed” to be coupled with his insecurities about being embarrassed to write romance that makes him hesitant to do just that.
This is why I scoff at the idea of “No romance in the crew” being used as an actual argument. People use that argument as if Oda himself is completely against the idea of anybody in the crew getting together, despite the painfully crystal clear reason for “no romance in the crew” being to not alienate readers and lose said readers as he is under the impression that boys won’t like that because of how he thinks that everyone still has this idea that they should be segregated due to how it was when he was a kid himself. It's why he said "People are so supportive of couples!" all surprised in the interview with Aoyama, clearly being surprised about the positive reception it gets that he didn't think it would get. It has nothing to do with him hating the very concept of romance, it's him being under the wrong impression on what his young male readers would find acceptable or not.
There is a reason why almost every single time that he brings up or hints at any, ANY hesitance or opposition towards romance in the crew, he brings up his readers. ALMOST. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. He tries to please his target audience. “It’s a shounen manga” or “the readers” he keeps saying, despite not even being asked about his readers' opinion. "I don't think there will be any romance in that crew" is said clearly because "It's a shounen manga THEY won't be interested" not because "OMG WTF I HATE ROMANCE BETWEEN THEM GTFO!" the way people intentionally misconstrue this to be. He even says "Nami probably sees all the good aspects/qualities of those guys, BUT One Piece isn't a romance" So he LITERALLY says that his reason isn't "She does not like any of her crewmates in a romantic way!" but instead says "Well it's not a story about romance and I think only girls care so I won't show or depict it because I think my primary young male audience wouldn't give a shit". Nothing about himself. Legitimately nothing about his own opinions about supposedly being disgusted with nakama romance. Gotta love the made-up narrative being presented as a fact to the fandom at large.
Oda's "but" could have EASILY been followed up with something like this: "Nami probably sees all the good aspects/qualities of those guys, BUT she doesn't see them in a romantic way and I don't want it to be that way" or something, but instead essentially opted for "Nami probably sees all the good aspects/qualities of those guys, BUT think of my young male audience! They don't care about romance. They'd probably hate it if I decide to capitalize on Nami seeing their good qualities as romantic, right? After all, only girls want it! It must only be them for asking this!" What I am saying isn't even me grasping at straws, it's RIGHT THERE. "I don't think there will be romance in the crew cause boys will not like it". Bam, that's all it is. I know I am repeating myself but it seriously bears repeating because of how so many people see that one answer in particular as the ultimate evidence against Mugiwara romance. Oda seems like he's being evasive on purpose with that answer, talking about how concerned he is about the opinions of boys while not once talking about whether or not he would like to write it or not.
Also for the love of everything can we get someone who has the untranslated version of this answer? Given how Japanese language works I would not be surprised in the slightest if he's even more evasive than in VIZ's translation.
How people come to the conclusion that he’s disgusted by the very idea of a Mugiwara couple being a thing is beyond me when it’s as clear as day that he opens his mouth about “his readers” and “his audience” for a reason.
I mean hell, Strong World was originally going to be a movie about Nami’s past and the reason he changed it was because of how he kept his TARGET AUDIENCE in mind. He kept the young boys he appealed to in mind despite clearly wanting to write something else at first.
Him pleasing his audience doesn’t equal “I really don’t want this to be a thing”. If anything, he restricts his desires purely on the basis that he thinks whatever he wants to write is not what other people want, why the hell wouldn't you think this applies to the idea of "no romance in the crew" when he literally spoonfed us the reason being exactly that in the earlier photo of the Jump Fests '09 interview?
He clearly wants to avoid it because of this idea that his male audience will take issue with it and not because he doesn’t wanna do it himself. This why he said “Seriously!?” all surprised when Aoyama said he wouldn’t leave if he decided to implement romance into his story, and he was saying this to a man who writes romance and has already said “I love romantic comedies” 2 sentences ago. Oda is THAT unsure of himself and he's THAT much under the impression that males have no interest in romance. I rarely if ever see people bring this up.
There's a sense of insecurity Oda has on the topic of romance. When Aoyama said “I guess you have no interest in love comedies” Oda didn’t say yes or even imply that he's right about that being the case. He just said “I’m not confident I could draw those, it's a bit embarrassing” Again, he's insecure about it. Not AGAINST it. He basically spells it out for you. But many people still pretend as if he's saying all of this because he's supposedly disgusted by romance among the crew being a thing, only because that made up narrative supports what THEY want to be the case, instead of looking into the actual reason for as to why he's saying all these things.
As I said before, almost every single time he is hesitant to write romance he mentions his audience, but in the situations he doesn't bring up his audience, he instead mentions how he's embarrassed to do it. I mean when asked in a 2019 interview with Oda, he was embarrassed when asked if he incorporates arguments with his wife into how Nami argues, perhaps showcasing how he's embarrassed to talk about his wife (ya know, the person he loves) in other words, the person he's romantically attached to. This is definitely a stretch so I'm not saying that I seriously think that this is more proof on how he's embarrassed/insecure about romance, but I figured it was worth bringing up. But embarrassment aside, he also cares a lot about his manga keeping face to his boy audience.
This leads me to the next thing… Oda’s involvement with the movies. Notice how, every single time he’s involved with writing the plot there’s always some LuNami stuff he wants to throw in there?
Strong World obviously, as well as parts of Film: Gold. Now, at first things seem… odd. The LuNami hints between the two in those films are quite a bit more on the nose than anything Oda has written in the manga, like a oh-so clear parallel between Tesoro and Luffy. At first it puzzled me why Oda would relegate these stories and moments to movies. And then, if you read the Aoyama interview, things start to make sense why he approaches things this way.
Movies aren’t treated as a main part of the story by people, it’s not the manga. You have to go out of your way to see the movie. There's no need to watch the movie to understand One Piece's main manga story. Look at the contrast between Chapter 0 and Strong World itself. Chapter 0 is manga content and it seems so much more concerned with the action and hype the young boys are there for (obviously cause it takes place decades before the current canon but that was a deliberate choice, it could've easily been like how Glorious Island, being a prequel to Film Z, was contemporary to the story). While there still is a bunch of that hype/action in the movie itself, there are also romantic elements thrown in there. It's kind of like Oda's experimenting, testing the waters with those movies. It makes sense for him to approach it this way. People who so happen to hate the addition of (LuNami) romance are willing to let things slide and overlook it because said romance is in a movie they don't have to watch.
So basically a non-mandatory-to watch movie provides Oda with more leeway, or rather makes him more comfortable to add what he wants, allowing him to put just a little bit of obvious romantic themes revolving LuNami.
Although it’s just a BIT of leeway, as Oda still kept the young boys in mind as he, of course, changed the movie from what it was originally supposed to be from something darker to something more light-hearted.
Here's where we get to the main point of this long wall of text: After three seconds. See, this could have easily, EASILY been animated into the movie, it’s as simple as having a 1 minute scene of everyone hearing the final part of the message, it could have easily been the post-credits scene, heck 1 minute is probably a lot more than what was necessary to show after three seconds animated. So why did it not happen in the movie? Probably because Nami was blushing.

Blushing is the most cliché and obvious way to tell if someone is into someone else (unless it’s physical like kissing). Oda, likely due to him keeping his young male audience in mind, relegated it to something even MORE obscure than a movie you don't necessarily have to watch, instead of through said movie, it’s through… these pin things? I honestly don’t even know what the heck it’s supposed to be. I know that One Piece Color Walk 6 featured it...

...but I don’t know the origin of this or how it was distributed before the color walk. Was it given to people in theaters? Was this purchasable merch? Did it come with the DVD/Blu-Ray as an extra? There's so little information online on where in the world this came from, and that just goes to show how oddly obscure it is, as if Oda did this on purpose just so that as little people would find about it. As if he thinks “Okay my intentions will be too obvious if this gets put in the movie itself, let me try something else”. It makes sense given how he's clearly shy about the whole romance thing as I explained earlier. Of course in the movie proper Sanji still mentions the whole love message thing but without Nami explicitly blushing at Luffy hearing it, naysayers can easily just interpret it as one of Sanji's self-serving delusions as always, as Nami doesn't show explicit emotions (blushing) giving away that it's really a love message.
Yes, everything I am saying about this isn't some guaranteed factual info or whatever, but this makes WAY too much sense. He had no reason to make this featuring Nami blushing but he did anyway, like it’s a way for him to draw what he wanted without being overly concerned with his demographic at large getting to see this, you know. And it worked! For example, a lot of the LuNami naysayers point out how the message wasn't romantic and they all say it without the knowledge of After three seconds. Oda did a good job with keeping this art on the down low because let's be honest, who outside of the shipping community or people analyzing shipping to insane degrees (me right now) even know about after three seconds? Exactly.
And by the way, you can’t even say that Nami is blushing out of embarassment for everyone hearing it. In that artwork where she blushed, she knows damn well at that point that the only person on the ship who didn't hear the last part is Luffy, so she’s clearly blushing because of how LUFFY SPECIFICALLY heard it, she blushes once she’s realized that he heard it, it’s that straightforward. And Oda wrote Nami saying "It's embarrassing!" in reference to the message.
Oda is the same man who is embarrassed to write very on the nose romance. Not saying "Oh dude this totally means Oda is projecting how he feels writing after three seconds/the ending of Strong World onto Nami by making her say it's embarrassing meaning he sees this as romantic because HE is embarrassed about romance!" ....Well okay I totally AM saying that buuut I am not saying that it's actually true. I just wanted to bring it up lol.
Another perfect example of relegating obvious romantic things to obscure content is a certain sketch. And it’s in the heroine novel, obviously aimed at girls instead of boys, and oh would you look at that:

Oda does a complete 180 and features Nami with Luffy’s hat on with a HEART IN HER HAND… seriously, how more obvious can this sketch get? It can't! And it doesn't need to be subtle this time! Oda knows that on average more girls are going to care about romance so why be subtle here? In the past he said specifically that he thinks girl readers keep asking him questions related to romance, as I clearly said before, and this here novel is targeted at girls as opposed to boys. There’s no reason for Luffy’s hat to be on her, especially because, well, he has nothing to do with Nami's novel, it's not like he plays a role in it. Nami post-timeskip is pretty much never seen wearing his hat before this sketch, making it very peculiar for him to draw her like this here on something aimed towards girls, the demographic he keeps mentioning "loves romance and keeps asking me to include it in One Piece". Seriously, the ONE TIME to bring it back in like, a decade, and it’s done like this? It feels ridiculous to call people crazy for thinking it has to mean something given all the context I have provided.
I mean, notice how in the main manga storyline, Nami hasn’t had his since SKYPIEA??? Hell, even then, she has only had it on her head once in the main manga in Arlong Park, yet Oda made Nami wear the hat in color spreads, which are treated as not important at all by a lot of readers. Color spreads by casual or young readers are usually looked at like “Huh cool artwork I guess, not going to extensively think about it though”, again giving Oda a liiitttle bit more leeway than his main manga story. Why else do you think that Luffy and Nami are CONSISTENTLY portrayed as King and Queen in color spreads and not the main manga storyline? Because from Oda's perspective it gives naysayers or the boys who in his mind supposedly hate romance leeway to say "Oh it's just a color spread! Just fun little aesthetic stuff!", in other words, nothing to take seriously. If he wrote it into his main manga story he would have to explain why Luffy and Nami would dress up as King and Queen too, again making things a loooot more explicit depending on the way he goes about it, and he's already insecure about it, so.... I'm just saying.
Also come on, there has to be a reason why Oda has portrayed Nami with Luffy’s hat plenty of times after Skypiea yet none of those times were in the story proper, just like the movies he's involved in being heavily focused on Nami herself or LuNami. He himself wrote Tesoro and Stella's romance, he himself said that ROMANCE WAS A GOOD IDEA FOR FILM: GOLD yet is much more adamant about romance being included in his manga storyline and it was HIS idea to parallel the romance for Tesoro/Stella that he wrote with Luffy/Nami. Almost as if he is less concerned with a certain audience for the movies and side material than he his for his manga... Nah, that's ridiculous!
Isn’t it just weird how a lot of the side content Oda makes/is involved in is more on the nose with shipping hints? To me it seems like his thought process is “Okay! I can finally do something I want to! I want to make a movie about Luffy saving Nami with a few romantic undertones thrown in there… I could’ve easily made an arc like this in the manga but, can’t let my main audience be disappointed, can I?” Arlong Park and Skypiea are the only times in the manga in which Nami gets to be saved by Luffy. (Funnily enough they’re both are the only times in the main story where Luffy gives Nami his hat.) Both arcs were so long ago. It just seems to me like he wrote Strong World and the romance aspect of Film: Gold to scratch his “Nami gets saved by Luffy” itch. Even with the Zou hug being a thing, it is not something that Oda puts emphasis on at all, it’s pretty zoomed out in the manga, as if he is avoiding any overly direct intimacy that the readers he’s catering to would catch on to. It’s all too suspicious to me.
All this isn't to say that Oda doesn't do any LuNami stuff in the main manga storyline, it just that he's not mega obvious with it at all and doesn't plan to include said mega obvious hints as long as his concern with his boy audience remains there. So it doesn't invalidate any LuNami hints that people think happened in the manga like Nami blushing over the CPR Reiju gave (naysayers could easily say she was just shocked unlike Strong World where it's blatantly her blushing over Luffy hearing what Sanji called a "love message") or things that are more subtle like Nami's "I don't want to marry yet" in Thriller Bark, I'm just saying that cliché hints of romance is what he would like to avoid, something cliché enough that his shounen audience would figure out.
As a side note, Oda's "People seem so supportive of couples!" is also interesting as before his Aoyama interview he always knew/thought that girls are always the ones ask him for romance and as such of course he would know the female demographic would care more about it, so this surprise about people seeming supportive of couples may or may not be him realizing that it's not just girls who are interested, but perhaps boys too. Of course we all know that Oda drew Luffy and Nami together for Aoyama, the author he just talked about romance with. Now again not saying "Oh man this HAS to be a LuNami hint!" because they talked about much more than just romance, but still, something to consider!
Oda's "Ah, seriously!?" is still funny to me when Aoyama said he won't leave if One Piece were to include romance, despite Aoyama writing romance in Detective Conan, interesting reaction from Oda given how Aoyama literally said "I like love comedies" just earlier. As if to convince himself that Aoyama is writing the romance in his story to pander to his female audience instead of doing it because he likes doing it. Anyway I think I am digressing.
I think my theory may hold some water, but hey if you disagree, that’s totally fine. I’m not the best at articulating myself so the way I talked about some things here may just be seen as completely wrong, but hey, that’s okay! If you have something to add, you can do so. I know there will be people disagreeing with me, including even some LuNami fans, but again, I don't mind at all.
My verdict is this: Oda likes the idea of LuNami but due to his concern with his target audience, he won’t make any obvious advances that young boys would pick up on and as a result, tries to sneak in more obvious hints into supplementary/more obscure content like Movies, After three seconds, a sketch, etc. because people take those less seriously/not at face value like stuff that happens inside the manga's story, so only puts more subtle or non-cliché hints in his manga and the less subtle ones in secondary material. (I mean seriously dude, wearing Luffy's hat with a heart in your hand? A romance parallel in a movie? Blushing at the "love message" being heard? Come on, that so much more on the nose than anything in the entire manga)
I guess you can say there are layers to how far Oda is willing to go to show LuNami more explicitly lol. The more of a low profile he think he has from his boy readers, the more explicit it'll be. That is seriously a trend I have been noticing from him.
Honestly, with all this being said and done, I think the only way he will feel totally at ease with including explicit LuNami romance is if he is convinced that his boy audience doesn't mind romance at all and wouldn't leave in salt, bitterness and passive aggression.
I think One Piece will continue to be written like this without on the nose romance. The best we can hope for is a sudden LuNami ending once the story is over, because 1. By then he stops writing One Piece and doesn't need to be walking on eggshells to please his audience and 2. Romance not being written doesn't necessarily mean characters won't end up together as BF/GF, husband/wife. Portraying romance is simply showing us the way that lead to the BF/GF husband/wife relationship in the first place.
Keep in mind that the whole interpretation I have about Oda's portrayal romance and LuNami could be entirely wrong!
To talk about the "Boys don't like romance" thing, I'm a man, and look, I wrote all of this stupid shit. To me it's funny that he still is under the wrong impression that all, or at least most, boys don't like romance. I am not a shipper of everything in fiction myself, LuNami is one of the few ships I even care about. If your audience grows attached enough to a series they would get attached to the characters too, this attachment can lead to a desire of wanting to see these characters be more, that is how I started to love LuNami. I think a decent amount of male One Piece fans feel the same way, for guys like me liking a ship usually takes a slow burn, whereas, usually from what I observe, women ship things much quicker than guys. I also feel less willing at expressing my love for a ship, a big part of it being that many guys just "support" a ship instead of going balls to the wall insane for a ship with a million essays about how great the ship is, on top of that they almost always support the ships I think are lame where it's stupid one-sided love for 95% of the story (For example, men in the English-speaking community support LuHan so much more than LuNami on average it's not even funny) For a long time, many years, I was sitting in the back, keeping my interest in LuNami to myself. And what better way to "come out the shipping closet" I guess you can say, than to make... whatever the hell I wrote here? I don't know man at this point I'm so drained I'm starting to doubt that anything I even said here made any sense, I just flung all the things stored in brain at this post so it may be all over the place but whatever!
Hope you loved reading this regardless! See ya!

re: the clark & damian topic - so I am a fan who doesn't ship the other bat & supes combos but does for jondami and part of the reason why is bc how the dynamics of their parents lend itself in the ship; im a sucker for childhood friends to lovers but there's something so charming about both being the sort where there's no hesitation to know and treat their partner (in heroing and in romance) as a priority. Clark as a parent, watching this dynamic evolved, worried because Damian at that age and with first impressions can be a lot-- he is a child who is processing a ton of trauma, i think at that point of time has *died* and came back; he has seen the ugly side of their world, been a part of it for so long.
But in my interpetation, Clark does pick up a few things just observing Damian: a) he's tries so hard to be good and b) he wants to be seen as useful so badly. And how can your heart NOT soften at that? I think that what would ultimately win Clark over and let Jon & Damian's friendship persist. It's that human quality and proof that goodness is a skill thats honed, empathy is a purposeful choice. Damian is sharp-tongued and clever enough to get under most people's skin, but how can a father, especially when that child is your #1 superhero friend's kid, see Damian and go like "obviously I would never ever let him around my kid"? Character precedes reputation.
I also love / hc as Damian veers into civilian life more, opting the doctor life, him finding that bond with Lois. I know Lois is currently superwoman but in this outlook, I love her presence and purpose as a civilian in Clark's stories and Dami is sooooo fascinating taking that unique path of hero -> civilian. Maybe they're in their funny little support group of sorts, though Damian would refused to admit that what it was.
Because she would be the one who know how to balance loving a Super and not being in the life that way. Them having dinners while maybe a disaster happening in the world, even if both have that instinct of wanting to be there and help. Damian is horrible at the waiting, he gets antsy, but he has that faith of his Super always coming back. Lois commiserate on the idea of what if im a burden? what if im not useful, constantly? i think it was you mention this but God is that relatable to her, daughter of Sam Lane. Like idk if you watch my adventures with superman but that Lois version and Damian would (emotionally) be similar in that case; i see doctor Damian being such a risk taker, even though he can never truly shake his bat cautiousness and Lois always being his number 1 to bat 🙂↕️ yes it was reckless but between the choice of doing good and doing nothing, she'd do the same too.
Also a side thought: it's so funny people harp that Clark's favorite Robin is Dick and I agree because, as canon dictates, they're friends. But I do like to think Damian has that special place because he's the Robin he knows from the perspective of being a father. And that's so different from his other experiences with the Robin. He doesn't doubt any of the robins capabilities but gosh, this is a child, his child's best friend/crush, etc. He's a little spitfire, he's prickly like a stray wanting love, and he's so deeply introspective on the nature of life + people, I have the picture of this scenario where Clark has this version of 20 questions that most Bats hate on instinct of "thats too personal" but Damian seems to really love, after the performance of "no i dont want to give my secrets". Clark is an investigative journalist with a wife that won awards, he's people savvy, he knows how to ask the right question but I like the idea of how often Damian surprises him and make him pause, in a good way and in a sad way because a LOT of those answers are windows into Damian's unique upbringing.
Or another scenario where there's a silly dilemma where Superman wants to rope Jon and Damian into an adventure thats "age appropriate" and at first both kids are whining because it's very kiddie-- helping to catch this neighbor feral and her kittens. However, as soon as Damian finds the first kitten, he locks in and by nature of competitiveness, so does Jon. I know Jon would likely not want to a cat around because of his childhood incident but the Kents fostering the kittens and feral to be barn cats at his grandparents' old farm is cute. It becomes Damian's intitial excuse to come visit often and Clark knows this. That was the round about goal, funnily enough because he would quickly understand that Damian's love of animals is one of his quirks unique for his son's Robin.
🙂↕️ thats... all. Have a good day!
First! I'm with you when it comes to only shipping jondami when it cames to all the other super/bat ships I feel it and Two! I'm gonna plug two of my own post that I've made before that describes why I personally really like jondami as a concept cus I feel like me and you are the same when it comes to that and the other is a one shot I write about the similarities between Damian and Lois because ugh I absolutely love the idea of them bonding over the fact that they are just civilians and and they can only do so much but they do the best that they can.
And she 100% would be a support for Damian and I think he'd be one for her too in return because now she has someone who also understands what it's like to be with a super.
Love the idea of Clark taking both Jon and Damian to just do simple ground work as heroes. Especially for Damian who's so used to fast, hectic, adrenaline pumping type of hero work that for him to do some nice and simple is so good for him just to show him that "hey you don't have to just punch bad guys in the face to help the people around you, sometimes all you have to do is help a cat out of a tree and that invoke the same feeling" it's an incredibly sweet gesture when you think about it and helps give both Jon and Damian a sense of normalcy of just being kids and helping a community that doesn't always involve having to fight or putting yourself in danger.
And I agree I think Clark would find Damian quite interesting to say the least compared to all the other Robins before him. I feel like Damian with all the knowledge he was provided with growing up is very introspective and is able to have deep philosophical conversations and I also think that in return he would also ask Clark questions that Clark himself probably never thought to ask and that would also surprise him to say the least. I can see both Clark and Lois having some deep amazing conversations with Damian about certain topics and Jon just beaming at the fact that his parents and Damian are bonding with each other.
And Clark would find so many quirks about Damian that just makes so much sense for him to be Jon's robin that make him so unique lol. Damian loves animals, he makes art, knows how to play instruments, watches anime and reads romance manga, he draws comics about himself and the people around him.
Clark looks at both his son and Damian and it's just like "Yeah... they make sense together"
#Anon you having amazing points and takes and it makes me so soft you don't understand 🥲#ask#damian wayne#jon kent#jonathan kent#clark kent#lois lane#superfam#Superman#supersons#Jondami#damijon

🔥 Star Trek
About the entire franchise?
Alright: I think that it always needs to walk a tightrope between depicting a better future and laundering propagandistic military/colonial narratives. I think that, of the series, TNG and DS9 walked this line best, the former by ensuring that it always (almost always) stayed on the right side of the line, the latter by calling attention to the line and problematizing it whenever it crossed it. Picard season 1 was actually very, very good at recognizing this line and illustrating what happens when your society crosses from the one side to the other side. One of the many reasons why I dislike Picard season 3 is that it seemed blissfully unaware of the line's existence. But for my money, the series with the absolute worst track record of recognising that this line exists and staying on the right side of it (and this is where the scaldingly hot take comes in)...is Voyager.
Seriously, though. We have a ship in the middle of nowhere. It's a Starfleet vessel nominally, but everyone in Starfleet thinks that it's dead, and a third of the crew are rebels who don't want to be there in the first place. And yet, for some reason...it continues to operate under strict military discipline at all times. The ship is basically a military dictatorship under Janeway, absolute, unquestionable, and (as far as anyone knows) for the rest of all of their lives. When one of the Maquis guys in the first season questions why this should be so, Chakotay slugs him. Everyone wears uniforms at all times; we barely see civilian outfits, even on the Maquis, after the first episode. There's another episode where Tom commits insubordination and they keep him in solitary confinement (a form of torture, btw) for a month. There's an episode in the seventh season where Seven of Nine imagines becoming fully human and the way that she embraces her newfound individuality...is by wearing a uniform. So...when you're little better than an automaton, you get to wear whatever you want, but when you're a fully realised person, you join the navy? Oooookay. Everyone is locked permanently into their jobs. Like we all laugh at poor Harry Kim and his "forever an ensign" problem, but just consider what it's like for the poor guy. He doesn't know if he's ever getting home. Every day, he gets up and he goes to the bridge and he presses buttons and takes shit from everyone else...and that's it. That's his life. As far as he's aware, when he's ninety years old, he'll still be up there with one pip on his collar, taking orders and pushing buttons with veined and palsied hands. That's his life; he is his job; they're all their positions in the military hierarchy and that's all that they will ever be...and they're happy about it. There are no labour disruptions, no: "Hey, maybe Chakotay could try pushing buttons for a few days and I could try dispensing New Age wisdom." When Neelix asks to cross-train with Security, he's politely rebuffed. But they're happy about it. Nobody seems to have a serious problem with this. The text of the series is about the value of human individuality versus the "mindless drones" of the Borg Collective, but the subtext is about the value and satisfaction that comes with absolute submission to a power structure. I mean, I like the series nonetheless, it has lots of good episodes, but...honestly?

Do you think of Ginny as a “pick me girl”? Some of the things you say in your post makes her come across as that, which is sad since she is a strong female character and there’s so many m|m bloggers who shitting on strong female characters these days.
I don't know if you're just looking for a fight or if you're genuine, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about this subject once.
Yes, I think Ginny comes off as a bit of a "pick me" which I already wrote about here, which I don't think was intentional on JKR's part. I don't think Ginny was intended to come off the way she did.
Like, Ginny in the early books is just, really boring, in my opinion. and I think Ginny in book 5 had the potential to be an interesting character. She had a good sense of humor and she seemed somewhat in line with the twins (though on the crueler side), but I despise Ginny of books 6 and 7.
Like, all power to you for like Ginny and her romance with Harry. Truly, have fun with your canon pairing, I wish you the best and that you find many fics that portray them just as you like to see them.
But I don't see them that way. I think Ginny is a badly written character, and I think her romance with Harry is similarly badly written. It has nothing to do with gay ships. Trust me, if Harry was written into a compelling romance with a well-written female character, I'd be all over that. But he wasn't.
I mean, hell, I don't even ship Drarry, which is the most popular gay ship for Harry because I don't like Draco much. I think he's written well for what he is in the story, but I just don't vibe with him.
Becouse I don't need an excuse to dislike a character or a pairing. I can give my reasons, I have them, but I'm (and anyone else is) allowed to say I just don't vibe with a character. Even if Ginny was the best-written character in literature (she isn't) and her romance with Harry was perfectly written (it isn't) I could still shit on her as much as I want to, you know why?
Becouse she's fictional.
Fictional characters can't be offended. You can't be mean to a fictional character. Because fictional characters don't have feelings. They're not real.
You can say you personally find it sad people don't like Ginny the way you do, and you can be personally disappointed — but it isn't objectively sad. It isn't sad for Ginny becouse Ginny isn't real and only real people have feelings. It's sad to you, that's your opinion.
I love Harry, he's my favorite and I made it no secret, but I have good irl friends who shit on him in casual conversation and I can laugh with them when they make a funny joke about him even when we disagree, you know why? — we agree to disagree. We know Harry is fictional and that he doesn't care. Because he isn't real, he can't care.
So, for me, it doesn't matter if you shit and hate on fictional characters and fictional relationships as long as you're decent to real people.
You aren't a misogynist for disliking a female fictional character. She's fictional. She isn't real. You would be a misogynist if you mistreated irl women because they're women. In the same vein, you aren't a homophobe for disliking a popular gay ship. You would be a homophobe if you mistreated irl gay people because of their sexuality. You aren't wrong for disliking a fictional character or ship for any reason, even if the reason is just "vibes". You would be a dick if you mistreated irl people because they don't think the same as you about a fictional character or ship.
I personally find it sad that fandom seems to have lost the ability to say "agree to disagree" and move on (if the ability ever existed in the first place). I follow some blogs who shit on HJP himself because they post other stuff I find compelling. I follow blogs that post a lot of Drarry because I like how they write Harry even if I don't really care for Draco. You can like someone and enjoy their writing and be friendly with them even if you don't agree with them on some fictional characters and fictional relationships. And if it really bothers you, you can block and move on as many of us do.
So yeah, I think Ginny comes off as a "pick me." I think she's a badly written character, and you can disagree with me on that, you can think she's a strong female character, but that's your opinion, not an objective truth. And I dislike her for being a badly written character, which, I assure you, is gender-natural.
I also think it's important to remember that at the end of the day, we're all just playing with dolls, and the only feelings that matter are those of real people.
#sorry for the rant but this attitude is one I find annoying#fictional characters aren't real people and shouldn't be treated like they are#and an opinion =/= objective fact#ginny and harry canonically being together = objective fact#ginny being a strong female character = opinion#asks#anonymous#anti ginny weasley#hollowedrambling#fandom#about fandom tendency in general

Although Caitlyn Kirraman does kinda fit the trope of the "good cop" (aka 'guys even though they're a cop they're one of the good ones I swear 🥺') a bit, I personally think she's kind of the opposite in a way? Caitlyn is a Bad Enforcer, which is what makes her such a compelling character.
Think of it this way, What is an Enforcer's job in piltover? To enforce. To make the citizens of Zaun complacent through fear, and to make non-ruling citizens of Piltover complacent through a manufactured sense of safety. They don't serve the people, they serve the council. Their job isn't to do what's right- it's to follow orders.
Caitlyn doesn't do any of these things. The events of the show kick off in the first place because she wasn't following orders. She gets in trouble with Marcus because why? She left her post to investigate the ship and she actually helped a man who was wounded by Jinx. She used Jayce's new position in the council to directly go against both her parents and Marcus's orders and she gets Vi out of prison in order to find Silco, who she intends to track down because he's actively hurting the people. She does things for the sole reason that they're the right thing to do.
Caitlyn is a bad Enforcer, and that's a good thing because the Enforcers aren't a good thing to be apart of.
I feel like a lot of the "good cop" trope boils down to "this cop is good because they serve their community by following orders" and the "bad cop" boils down to "this cop is bad because they do illegal things. they arrest people unfairly, and they disobey orders." When cops are meant to fit arrest quotas that are often filled through unfair arrests. A narrative that wrongly assumes that the system is irrelevant, and that there's only a few bad apples out there abusing their power, and if only we could just get rid of those bad apples, everything would be fine, right?
"if only there were more enforcers like Caitlyn" isn't a sentiment that anyone watching the show should be having, that's like saying "If only there were more members of the sith like (insert name of someone who betrayed the sith here)"
Tldr: Caitlyn isn't a good enforcer, and that's a good thing because Enforcers are awful, and they're supposed to be awful, because it's their job to be awful. God I hope this makes sense and isn't just a ton of word salad.
#arcane#Caitlyn Kirraman#caitlyn kirraman#arcane silco#arcane marcus#i hope this makes sense#also id like to note that this is not me defending piltover at all#anyways im excited to see where her character goes in s2

thinking about izou guys...lets go
I think there's a little bit of insecurity coming off here so i think maybe this could be considered comfort because he's going to worship you🫡 this just kept going and going btw guys sorry
let me know if the dialogue is confusing and I'll colour code it🤞
I also invented u a bestie idk
ALSO that part where he's thinking about fighting is making me think about sparring headcannons...
- ✧ -
You feel like someone's staring at you.
You've been feeling like that a lot lately actually.
It's not unpleasant, more a hyperaware tingle on the back of your neck as you organise parts of the new supplies.
It's odd, you think, you're not sure why someone would be staring at you of all people.
You look up, trying to get a glimpse of whoevers causing the feeling, but your eyes can't help but drift back to the man in front of you. His head was turned and he was talking to one of the other crew members, someone in his division you think, you weren't exactly looking. No, your focus was on the elegance of his profile, the way his hair looked like liquid silk and framed the muscles of his broad shoulders like water against rock.
At least he wouldn't catch you looking at him since he never seemed to look your way.
You hadn't been on the ship long, 6 months max maybe. You settled quickly into your division, finding companionship easily within the familial feeling of the crew. And while you were more than strong enough to be recruited by the Whitebeard pirates, there's still not really a reason for anyone to stare, especially not Izou. Your strength is the hidden kind, something you only ever use in a fight, and other than that there's nothing really interesting about you.
At least that's what you think.
- ✧ -
Izou strongly disagrees.
He fears he might've gone insane, the level of space you occupy within his mind can't be normal, especially when you'd barely spoken 3 sentences to him(one time you said his lips looked beautiful and he honestly thought he would've proposed if you hadnt walked away).
He just can't help it, he'd first seen you before the crew had attempted to recruit you (on his recommendation of course) and the way you fought was breathtaking. He kind of wanted you to beat him up like that, but that might mess up his hair and he was sure he'd wouldn't be into that nearly as much.
As soon as that fight was over though, he'd seen that transformation into your normal personality and he was hooked from the beginning. The way you went from such a serious, scary, powerhouse to just so-
You.
He couldn't even put it into words.
He can't help but linger around you, sitting near you during celebrations and dinner, swapping chores to put you a bit closer. Not that he talks to you, no no, he's quite nervous if you must know.
You make him feel so many emotions he's never felt before, he's never been nervous around someone he fancys and it makes him feel sick- in a good way, but still sick.
To be honest though, he's more worried about making you uncomfortable, technically you'd be a subordinate to him, he doesn't want to pressure you so he'd much rather keep his attraction to himself.
No matter how much his brothers pushed him to be more open with his feelings.
- ✧ -
It can't be that hard to figure out who it is. Surely someone has a reason to be looking at you, and you'd already asked all of your cabin mates if you had any wardrobe malfunctions or food on your face and there was a unanimous no. Though they were snickering amongst themselves for some reason...
You brushed things like that off though, it didn't seem to be malicious and you and your cabin mates had developed quite a strong bond even in just a few months so you didn't think they would be making fun of you. But regardless they're weren't very helpful, so you decide to ask around.
You had a check up scheduled today so that could be a good place to start, and you had a pretty good relationship with your usual nurse Maren so you're sure she'd tell you if she knew anything.
- ✧ -
Tate was amused. And that's putting it lightly.
She'd noticed the special attention you seemed to be attracting as of late, well most everyone had. Apart from you.
You were so so oblivious. Even when it was staring you right in the face, which is precisely what Izou had been doing to you earlier. Not that you noticed the comical way he whipped his head to the side whenever you looked up. And you didn't even see the flush on his face that was clearly visible to everyone even through the makeup that he tended to favour.
She couldn't help the way her lips twitched upwards when Maren made eye contact with her over your shoulder, as you asked whether they'd noticed anything.
"That's probably Izou"
Your head turns so fast that Maren's hands fly up in a panic, making sure you didnt pull anything.
"What do you mean"
Your voice sounds a bit jittery and you fidget and Tate really grins then,
"What I just said"
"But why would he- like why would he look at me"
She shrugs
"He's attracted to you"
You gape at her, mouth opening and closing like a fish.
"But- what?"
Your voice is rising now, in befuddlement and embarassment and it doesn't help that Tate and Maren look like they're laughing at you.
"Oh hun most people have noticed apart from you...Izou seems to have a little crush on you"
Maren giggles as she finishes her sentence, rubbing your shoulder as she nonchalantly drops this massive revelation.
"I- what."
You sound so flabbergasted that Maren feels a twinge of concern for your self esteem so she barrels on,
"Well you're cute, you're funny, you're crazy strong which is always a bonus, there was that time you complimented his lipstick, oh you should've seen his face as you walked away I thought he was gonna have a stroke-"
"He's constantly near you, even in fights when he should be paying more attention to whats going on in front of him than wherever you are"
Theres a hint of annoyance in Tate's tone but you can recognise it's probably directed towards Izou. Probably. You can never tell with Tate.
"But we've never even really spoke-"
"Well I can assure you he wants to change that"
You'd never really thought about it, I mean obviously you were attracted to him and felt a lot of respect and frankly you would date him if given the opportunity. But you didn't ever think he'd be interested in you, no that would be silly, he's so strong, so composed. You couldn't for the life of you imagine him with a crush and yet here you were being told the crush is on you.
"What...do i do"
"It depends obviously"
She's confusing you now.
"On what?"
Tate rolls her eyes, "On if you reciprocate"
"What does that mean"
Maren butts in again, "On if you want to try dating him silly"
You feel yourself curl in from embarrassment as you say it but you can't stop your mouth,
"Who wouldn't?"
- ✧ -
This was so bizarre.
You're not quite sure you believed the nurses at the start but now that you were looking you could see it. He was so often in the same place that you were, so often making sure you were safe, so often looking at you with a dreamy expression.
And it was kinda...really cute.
Well what can you say, he's quite a serious man, flashy and fashionable but serious nonetheless. Seeing his composure falter was sweet- and hot, really hot.
You'd tried winking at him earlier to see what would happen and he'd choked on his drink in his fluster, while cute, not something you would like to recreate considering how quickly he left after that. You imagine he'd felt embarrassed but you simply felt entertained and very flattered.
You wondered what you were going to do about it. You weren't exactly that experienced and youd certainly never asked the other person out first.
Though....you had some ideas in mind...
The next island you were docking at was famed for it's markets, big bustling things that took up several streets at any given time.
So it was settled.
You were going to woo a commander.
- ✧ -
You didn't think it was going to be this difficult.
You knew what Izou liked, how he wore his clothes, how he did his hair and his makeup.
But nothing was speaking to you, no matter how beautiful or precious it was. It was driving you mad. It didn't help that the people you'd enlisted for help were infact not being very helpful at all.
Maren was simply pointing out things either she wanted or she thought would look good on you, which....could actually be useful later for the aforementioned wooing so you did actually listen to her sometimes.
And then there was Ace, you'd thought he'd be very beneficial in this outing considering he was practically the second division commander already and thus was friends with the majority of the commanders. Well... he was just flirting with every shopkeeper.
You sighed as someone shouldered into you.
Gods this street was so busy it was an absolute nightmare to be in. You'd all taken to tying each others belts together, lest you get lost or worse in a fight. It prevented Ace from wandering off too, scatterbrained that he is.
Maren's sudden gasp had you turning in alarm before she started tapping your arm in excitement.
"Look! Look! Look!"
"What am I looking at" You're squinting but there's too many people to see where she's even pointing.
She sighs, exasperated, before grabbing your head with both her hands and moving it to in front of her own. You stumble as she practically manhandles your body in front of her so your eyes can follow the exact line of site she was looking at.
"....oh"
"YEAH OH!"
You turn to face her,
"Maren I think you're a genius"
"Hey what about me-"
"Shut up Ace" The way you speak simultaneously makes you both giggle.
He doesn't stop pouting as he's dragged over to a frankly shady, tented market stall.
He's not sure why he's here anymore, he feels more like a mascot. Though he doesn't want to go back to the ship just yet, the way Izou had looked when you'd grabbed Ace's hand to drag him off the ship made him shiver.
He hopes you find a good present before Izou finds him.
- ✧ -
He's picking at his nail polish again.
He can't help it- he's so anxious, anxious that you'd been out all day on the island, anxious that you'd went with Ace of all people, anxious that you'd held his hand.
He knew Ace was attractive, many of the younger crew members were quite sweet on him afterall. But you'd never seemed to show any interest and he didn't think you'd go for someone younger than you...unless maybe you would.
He's scowling so much his forehead hurts.
He just doesn't understand.
Why would you want to go and hang out with Ace when you could hang out with him-
Ugh he felt disgusted, being jealous always made him feel dirty, such an ugly, improper emotion to have and yet here he was seething away.
Maybe he should've made a move.
Maybe he can still make one-
No that wouldn't be fair, not if you were going out with Ace.
It must be some divine punishment that he'd be forced to see it though.
- ✧ -
You laughed brightly as you and Ace raced back to the ship, shopping bouncing lightly against your side. Maren had gotten there first, setting off the whole race when you two were distracted the little cheat. She was giggling herself at the top of the gangplank as you and Ace shouldered each other trying to get up it first.
"THERE'S NO WAY I'LL LET YOU WIN"
"MAREN ALREADY WON THIS IS FOR SECOND PLACE IDIOT"
"WELL I'M NOT BEING IT"
"THATS WHAT YOU THINK" You're blowing a raspberry at him as you reach the top when he accidentally knocks your leg and you feel your centre of gravity shift.
You briefly feel panic claw up your throat, even though you'd land in the water, it was still a massive drop, one that you weren't prepared for and one that would potentially ruin the utmost perfect present.
It doesn't last long though, something snatches the side of your holster belt, holding you up like a dog in air prison.
Once you get your eyes to open back up, you see black leather before anything else and then the soft whites and pinks of his kimono print.
"Izou-"
You don't mean to say his name so excitedly but as you look up and he smirks and that little dimple on his left cheek appears, you can't really feel any regret for it.
"Darling you need to be more careful, I might not be there to catch you next time"
"Ah right- sorry" You turn your head in embarrassment, feeling hot. Your gaze meets Maren's and she winks before dragging an apologising Ace back onto the deck.
"Alright let's get you up lovely"
You expect him to reach with his other arm and haul you up back onto the gangplank.
You do not expect him to toss you in the air.
You think your shriek of fear may have disrupted the local ecosystem.
"WHAT THE HELL IZOU?"
The man has the audacity to laugh as he catches you in his arms.
"THAT WAS SO UNNECESSARY-"
"I apologise dear- I just wanted to see your face-"
Your eye twitches
"AND TO THINK I WAS GONNA ASK YOU OUT ON A DATE WELL YOU-"
You smack a hand over your own mouth, hoping it will somehow erase those words from out the air.
You can hear Maren and Ace crying on each other in the background about how 'all of their hard work has been wasted'.
Of course you were going to do it eventually but you'd wanted more time to prepare.
"Is that so?" His voice is lilted, teasing almost.
"Uh well- you know-
...yes"
The end of your sentence is barely audible as you wince. Even though logically you know he'll likely say yes, the embarrassment makes you wish you had fell off the gangplank. And maybe drowned while we're at it.
"Ask me then" When you look at him, he's smirking but you can see the blush steadily rising on his face.
"Uh what"
"Ask me darling, I do have places to be you know"
"Right, right, uh can you maybe like put me down first"
He raises one of those perfectly styled eyebrows before setting you on your feet.
"Okay now turn around"
He looks amused but he turns and you start rooting through your bag until you find the exact item you want.
It had taken a while to find, routing through that little jewellers stall, but it was absolutely perfect. You weren't exactly sure he'd wear something like it but it just felt like it almost embodied his energy.
It was a strange little thing, the stall owner had told you that the carved opal, inlaid into the wood, was found on the shore. He'd crafted the wooden part himself to curve perfectly around the delicate shapes of the crane, creating a moon shaped pendant that took your breathe away almost as much as Izou did. You worried the wood might seem plain to him but to you it felt like it was grounding, tying a feeling of the earth back to a gemstone which felt like glittering starlight.
You cleared your throat gently, holding it out in one palm of your hand.
He turns back towards you but he doesn't look down yet, his eyes are fixed on your face and you feel a bit like you're made of jelly.
"Izou... I've always held a...strong...admiration for you-"
You can see Maren wincing sympathetically behind him and you feel like throwing the pendant at her head.
He's smiling though, so you keeo going on.
"I wanted to ask you if you uh...
ifyoudliketogoonadatewithme"
Your eyes clench shut as you internally cringe and you think that came out as gibberish.
"How sweet"
You risk peeking at him with one eye and he doesn't seem to be making fun of you so you relax a little bit.
"And I...bought this for you...you don't have to keep it. It just reminded me of you"
He finally looks down at the small pendant in your hand and it's like he forgets how to breathe.
"Where did you-"
"You don't have to keep it."
His eyes shoot up to meet yours and then before you even process that he's moving, he's kissing you.
His lips are soft, just like they looked, and you're sure he's transferring his lipstick but you don't really care as you hook an arm around his neck. He's pulled you in by the waist, trapping the arm with the pendant against his body.
He kisses with such a purpose like he's trying to devour you, like he's trying to memorise every part of your mouth.
And he's really good at it.
You feel lightheaded, possibly from lack of air, but more likely because of the devotion you can feel through this kiss. You really hope there's nobody nearby because you kind of want to crawl into his lap and never leave.
He keeps trying to pull you closer, practically pulling you onto your tiptoes as he leans over you, almost like a dip in a dance.
He pulls back slightly for air but each breath is punctuated with a kiss and he's mumbling compliments all the while.
"Sweet, pretty thing"
Kiss
"So clever"
Kiss
"So lovely"
Kiss
You think you might pass out if he keeps focusing this much of his attention on you but you don't exactly want him to stop either.
"OH COME ON GET A ROOM"
Ace being useful for once is surprising enough to be effective at pulling you two apart.
You're gasping as you lean your forehead against his own and he starts talking before you even remember where you were.
"How did you find something like that? How did you know to get it?"
"What do you mean?" Your voice sounds soft and gooey even in your own ears but you can't feel embarrassed when he sounds so grateful.
"It's from home, my home. That opal-"
He's kissing you again as he whispers little thank yous against your mouth.
No wonder it reminded you so much of him.
"WHAT DID I JUST SAY"
Izou finally pulls back as a potato flies past his head. You can't see the look on his face but Ace immediately goes white so you imagine it must be quite impressive. He turns back to you and the adoration that shines on his face makes you feel all flustered.
"Darling I fear I could never give you a gift so precious"
"You...would be enough"
"Ah but then I get you as well, and I believe that means I owe you double, I better get started on that"
He's hoisting you back into his arms before you can reply and then he's whisking you away towards his cabin.
Maren is cheering way too loudly.

Sid, why do you think people think Kagome is “so annoying” and “whiny?” How exactly did she earn this reputation among her (rather dumb) haters.
The world is not kind to 15 years old girls, and what is Kagome, if not the perfect representation of one?
People forgot they can dislike a character just because and then move on. They'd rather grasp at straws to try and justify themselves, that way they can pretend they're being rational about the constant hate they're spreading when, truthfully, they're just being miserable.
Kagome specifically is in even greater disadvantage because her critics are, mostly, people who haven't read the source material and are instead basing their takes on a biased adaptation – which they probably watched ages before developping any critical skills – or people who see her as a threat to their ship and therefore are already prone to hate her.
The first group won't ever bother going out of their way to try and get a better grasp of her character by reading a 558 chapters long manga and the second group won't change their minds either way.
That's why they call her out for using the beads of subjugation even if: it wasn't her idea in the first place, it served to balance her relationship with Inuyasha at the beginning – since he was powerful and violent while she wasn't –, the rosary became a symbol of their bond, it saved Inuyasha a couple of times and he was always more annoyed than hurt by it, not to mention Sunrise blowing it out of proportion compared to the manga.
You never see Inuyasha getting bashed for hitting Shippo every other episode or Sango getting any heat for constantly slapping Miroku, because funnily enough people seem to understand it was just dumb, outdated, slapstick comedy, a courtesy they refuse to extend to Kagome.
That's also the reason they call her “annoying” and “whiny”: Kagome’s most important lesson was that it's okay to have feelings, so naturally they twisted that into a bad thing in order to keep hating on her. It's not about how her character was written, it's about people using of bad faith and deliberately mischaracterizing Kagome to pass their internalized misogyny as valid criticism.
I know part of the issue is that audiences nowadays are under the impression that for a female character to be strong, she can't cry or be feminine, but you don't see anyone hating on Sango even though she does cry and she can be as feminine as Kagome depending on the circunstances and on her mood.
The truth is that Kagome is playing a game she can never win, because the refs have decided they want her to lose before the match even starts.
If she stands up and sets boundaries for herself, she's annoying. If she doesn't, she's a doormat. If she feels jealousy, she's a bitch. If she shows kindness, she's boring. If she fights, she's overpowered. If she doesn't, she's useless. If any other character cries, it's heartbreaking. If she cries, she's whiny.
If she goes back to her own world, she's selfish. If she leaves that world behind to live the life she wants for herself, she's a stupid girl who left her family for a boy. If she does something grand, that's only because she's someone else's reincarnation. If she messes something up, the fault is hers and hers alone. She is, somehow, simultaneously a Mary Sue and a toxic abuser.
I've personally seen people slut shaming her because she got hitted on by Koga. I've personally seen people call her a "pick me" girl. Kagome. A pick me girl. Kagome.
And none of this is fair, because she is the kind of character who does her best to see the good in others, to understand the reasons why they act the way they do and to offer them some grace, but she gets very little of that in return, be it in canon, be it in fandom.
They always hold her up to such an impossible standard, but they completely forget to ask themselves: would the characters I stan be able to match the expectations I set for Kagome? Scratch that: would the characters I stan even be able to deal with things the way Kagome managed to do? Would I? The answer is most likely no, so how about cutting her a slack?
You ask me how did she earn this reputation among her rather dumb haters, my answer is: she didn't. They're just incapable of understanding that if a particular nuanced, well written, female character is not their cup of tea, they can simply ignore her and focus their attention on the characters they do like instead of spreading their baseless, misogynistic takes on the internet.
#I also feel like there's this trend of disliking protagonists in general#But I won't elaborate because this is already longer than I wanted it to be#And it applies to most of protagonists so it isn't Kagome specific#It's a dicussion for another day#Inuyasha#Kagome#Kagome Higurashui#Thank you for the ask anon#Sidmailing

Since you mentioned liking Secretkeeper, any plans on writing Bkorn/Vertin? finding fics of rare ships is hard ;-;
This is me planting seeds in your mind (lovingly)
You're right! I am an outrageous multi-shipper and I think Vertin and Bkornblume are adorable. They're both a mischievous and playful, yet gentle. They're both sneaky rebels too. Vertin worked from within the Foundation, Bkorn worked within the Stasi to help others. Bkorn seems fond of Vertin in her voicelines. She shares snacks with her and asks Vertin to read her poems in the Wilderness. Bkorn's reactions in the Wilderness like telling Vertin secrets or giggling make me think they enjoy each other's company. There's also this description of her:
A best friend who loves to yap but always lends a ears. Bkornblume is someone Vertin confides in and that makes her special. Also the little animation of them cuddled on the couch sharing a scarf was what finally did me in. Too sweet c:
I won't say I had plans on writing (no drafts or anything) since I'm all over the place with that stuff. I did have some secretkeeper in an idea I had floating around. It actually started as a crappy love triangle with Vertin, Matilda, and Sonetto. This was what I cultivated from my brainrot for anyone interested (not a fleshed out fic but an idea):
Matilda approaches Vertin one day and tells her she's going to confess to Sonetto. Vertin is confused as to why she needs to tell her first, and Matilda tells Vertin to quit playing dumb. They both like Sonetto, but they're also friends. She is warning Vertin out of respect and consideration for her friend, which moves Vertin (i HATE love triangles that aren't triangles. Vertin and Matilda are buddies and they don't want to hurt each other.) Nonetheless, Vertin wishes Matilda good luck and assures her she wants them to be happy. Matilda isn't convinced but thanks Vertin with a big hug before leaving.
When Matilda finally confess, Sonetto needs time to answer. Sonetto decides to ask for Vertin's advice like usual. Vertin plays wingman and says that it's worth trying to see how their relationship goes. Matilda and Sonetto got along since they were kids and she mentions that Matilda had a crush back then too. Sonetto admits she was totally caught off guard and says that she's never been good at noticing things like that. Vertin knows this first-hand, but doesn't bring up her feelings. She then asks Sonetto if there's a reason to reject Matilda. Matilda is cute, energetic, and compassionate. What could go wrong? Sonetto tentatively agree. She thinks highly of Matilda too, but something is amiss. Sonetto hasn't realized she also has feelings for Vertin (she confuses her love with admiration). She accepts Matilda's proposal and the two start dating.
Vertin is happy for Matilda, yet a part of her is also heartbroken. Vertin hates this feeling because she already decided to let Sonetto go. Sonetto and Matilda share the same beliefs and they will always follow the Foundation (in her mind). They're both brilliant arcanists and they are a perfect match. There will come a time where Sonetto will have to leave her side regardless of Matilda's involvement, and so Vertin already prepared herself for another goodbye.
This is where Bkornblume comes in!
Bkorn knows about the situation before everyone else because of course she does. She congratulates Sonetto and Matilda in person, but in the evening she finds Vertin alone in her office and confronts her. "Are you really ok with this?" Vertin tells her it doesn't matter if she's ok or not; Sonetto is better off with Matilda. As Vertin's friend, Bkorn is livid but lends an ear instead of continuing to argue.
Here is where Sonetto and Vertin's paths begin to diverge.
Sonetto and Matilda are happy together, but there are times during their dates that Sonetto's mind wanders to Vertin. Vertin would love this. I wonder what Vertin is up to? Things like that. Vertin's always on the back of her mind, but Sonetto chooses to focus on her girlfriend. Sonetto is very loyal and devoted to Matilda and things progress between them. I want to reiterate that Sonetto really cares about Matilda and she's assuming her affection will grow into true love with time (Sonetto also kisses Matilda first. Matilda initiated, but got flustered so Sonetto met her half-way).
On Vertin's side, Bkorn has decided to treat her on a "date" too to cheer her up (and get her out of the Suitcase because Vertin mentioned that she sees Sonetto everywhere. It's like she's expecting to see her puppy run up to her every time she turns the corner). This "date" will also serve as a reason for them to speak one on one without interruption.
Bkorn was being silly, but Vertin mentions she's never really had a chance to go on a date before, at least not a proper one. Bkorn volunteers to take her on more. Vertin thinks she's joking again but Bkorn says she thinks Vertin needs to take time for herself and experience things. It doesn't have to be serious, just have fun. Life is too short, something they both know all too well. Vertin agrees but she's also worried because she doesn't know what to do. Bkorn reassures her. "Now is a great time for us to learn! We can figure it out together." Yeah, neither of them really know where to go from here but they match each other's vibes. Vertin cheers up a bit too. However, Secretkeeper is a secret from everyone else. Bkorn and Vertin don't want to attract attention since they're not really serious (put a pin in that and then throw it away because this is the only time i've written this out lol)
While the pairs become closer, Sonetto and Vertin grow more distant. Sonetto misses giving Greeting Kisses (Vertin put a stop to it out of respect for Matilda and Sonetto agreed that she had a point. No one wants to make ducky sad). Vertin misses Sonetto falling asleep against her shoulder and helping her with the daily crossword in the newspaper. They feel each other's absence in all the little things. Sonetto knows Vertin enough to tells she's hiding something, but not exactly what which also bugs her.
Relationship wise, Sonetto and Matilda move slow and steady, fumbling through intimacy together. They're both very comfortable with each other and progress step by step.
Bkorn and Vertin are kinda the opposite. Because of their situation, they're very direct about everything. This is especially true for Vertin because Bkorn encourages her to express things outwardly. However, she has no idea what she signed up for. Example:
Vertin is up late as usual and decides to share her thoughts instead of being alone with them (she knows Bkorn isn't asleep yet either), "Are we going to kiss at some point?"
"Do you want to?"
"Most couples do."
"But I'm asking if you want to. If you want a kiss, you'll get one."
"When?"
"Whenever you want."
"Now?"
Bkorn was not ready for this. "Vertin, it's 2am."
"Is that a bad time?"
"That depends on the kiss. Impress me or I'm not letting you sleep over again."
Vertin continues to sleepover after this.
They're whole...situationship (idk what to call it) is like that. Vertin and Sonetto learn things about themselves while they are with their partners. Matilda helps Sonetto get over the guilt she has when people do things for her. Sonetto finally understands that giving can also make the giver happy. Its ok to accept and receive love (screw that martyr mentality!) Naturally this also makes her think back to all the times she and Vertin squabbled about this very thing.
Vertin gets more vocal about her feelings too. She opens up about loss and grief and Bkorn helps her realize that one of the reasons she's very tactile is because she can confirm people's existence through touch. As someone who sees and hears people who no longer exist, physical touch can be a source of comfort. An almost addictive one that she didn't notice until Bkorn brought it up. Bkorn liked the attention, but she noticed a pattern in Vertin that concerned her. Normally Vertin's affection is random but sweet. She'll walk into the room, kiss her cheek or give her a hug, then return to whatever she was originally doing. They're pleasant surprises. However, after a meeting with the Foundation or during a heavy thunderstorm Vertin will always seek her out and it ends up being more than a kiss. The physical attention didn't bother Bkorn in the slightest, but Vertin's almost desperate antics worried her especially when she realized that it was because Vertin was hurting inside (reminder this is/was an "unserious" and "for funsies" situationship). Yes, I gave Vertin unhealthy coping.
Sonetto and Vertin are also doing things for their partners! It's not all one-sided. There's a point where Bkorn tells Vertin : "If I didn't know better, I'd assume you love me" in response to how Vertin treats her. Vertin genuniely wishes she could. She wants to love Bkorn but they both know Sonetto still has a grip on her.
Meanwhile Sonetto does everything from making breakfast to showering Matilda with attention (wife-netto). However, Matilda isn't stupid. She's been observing (stalking) Sonetto for years so she can tell something or rather someone is on her mind. However, she believes her love will win over Sonetto eventually. She must have faith.
Even though her divination showed her a sinking ship. It's one of the few times she hopes she is wrong.
From here on is a mess. As in, I don't know where we're going from here either.
I did have some ideas, but not very fleshed out.
Sonetto learns Vertin's secret when Vertin is injured during a mission (I'm always injuring her; this is the extent of my creativity). Sonetto insists on helping Vertin place healing ointment on the back of her shoulder. Vertin says its just a minor injury, but gives in when she sees how worried Sonetto is. She can't say no to that face. While Sonetto's applying the salve, she freezes at the the sight of a few other "injuries". Kiss marks as clears as day and light scratches. Sonetto starts slathering salve on them immediately to erase them, startling Vertin. She quickly realizes Sonetto is erasing the evidence Bkorn left behind, but doesn't mention it. She gives an awkward thanks and the two are super tense around each other after that.
Sonetto racks her brain to find out who the hell put there hands on Vertin and she confides in Matilda. Matilda is shocked, but she's happy (and relieved) Vertin found someone. Sonetto is still reeling, "But why would she hide that from us?" Matilda asks a question she wasn't ready for:
Why is she angry?
Sonetto can't answer. Is it because their friends and friends don't have secrets? No, Vertin always had secrets. That's just the way she is and Sonetto never had a problem with it...until now. She reflects on these ugly emotions and their source.
More stuff happens...idk if I can tie them in well so I'll just jump forward
She eventually suspects Bkornblume but she's still not sure what to do with that information even if she's right.
When Sonetto, Vertin and Bkorn are working together on some paperwork, Bkorn asks Vertin for coffee. Vertin scurries off immediately.
Sonetto asks why keeps bossing Vertin around. Bkorn takes no offense and explains that if she doesn't give Vertin something to do, Vertin will find something to do for her. Usually that means spending Sharpadonties (or stuff that would make Sonetto kill her if she found out). By making a simple request, Vertin can still fulfil her need to provide without going overboard. Since the need to give is part of Vertin, this is Bkorn's way of letting Vertin be herself but in a way that won't hurt her wallet. Vertin returns with freshly brewed coffee for everyone, not just Bkorn. Bkorn thanks her and Vertin lights up like a proud child. Vertin sits still and helps finish the rest of the work without running off to buy snacks or her usual antics. Sonetto remembers her talk with Matilda. She realizes that she could have done something similar to Bkorn because Vertin truly from the bottom of her heart wants to make the people happy. It's adorable--
Sonetto tells Matilda about her new discovery. Matilda gives her a defeated smile. She advises Sonetto to talk to Vertin one on one. It'll be better for both of them. Afterall, they're all friends here. They want what's best for each other. This time when Matilda kisses her, it feel different. Like a goodbye?
Sonetto can't sleep that night and ends up finding Vertin in the living room in her favorite armchair by herself. Vertin can't sleep because Bkorn had a similar talk with her (they've been talking about it because bkorn has feelings for Vertin but there's no room in her heart for her.)
Up until now Sonetto and Vertin have been somewhat tense around each other but Vertin can tell somethings bothering her. "What's wrong, Sonetto?"
This time, Sonetto has a request. "Can I hug you?"
Vertin bolts up and gives her one, "Are you alright?"
That's when Sonetto realizes how much she truly missed Vertin and how stupidly in love she is with her. And from here...
I don't think I settled on a proper conclusion so I just replay scenes in my head repeatedly. There are interactions with Vertin and Matilda too because they're friends. Really need this to be a proper triangle!

♥️ Ranking Richonne
#1: For The Future (S9E03) 🏆🥳🎉
This is the one. 🥹 The number 1. 🏆 My favorite Richonne scene. 😍 And it's quite fitting on TOWL eve to discuss Rick and Michonne's final irl dialogue from TWD. How lovely that Richonne's 'last' day together was this beautiful. 😭
Richonne's relationship illustrates what I've always felt true love should be like. What the characters of Rick and Michonne have is a radiant, vivid, and undeniable soulmate love. It's earned and organic, it's devoted and deep-rooted, it's heartfelt, it's fiery, it's passionately palpable, it's everything. And genuinely, this impeccable scene has it all.
So I adore this moment to infinity and beyond, especially because in this scene, we truly get to see Rick and Michonne revel in Richonne...
What's clear from my Top 5 is I tend to really appreciate scenes where Rick and Michonne talk about Rick and Michonne, and this scene is one of the best examples of that.
Throughout all these posts I’ve expressed the sides of Rick and Michonne's relationship that I adore - when they're doting on each other, desiring each other, leading together, parenting together, relaxed and domestic, fighting the fight, being playful and flirty, being reassuring, being hopeful, happy, honest, human, wise, vulnerable, encouraging, and enchanted by the other. And pretty much all of this was captured in this scene right here.
So while I have no notes for this scene, my extra self still has a lot to gush over and praise. I mean naturally, cuz this is my goated Richonne moment. 🙌🏾😌
I just marvel at how special this ship is for only continuing to top themselves with golden scenes to the point that Richonne's last moving dialogue irl is my all-time favorite moment between them.
And if Richonne just had to be taken from me for 6 years, then this was an excellent scene to hold onto as I patiently waited for their return. (which is tomorrow, can you believe it!? 🤗) And it's also an excellent moment for Rick and Michonne to hold onto as their paths part for years and they fight with everything in them to get back to each other. 👌🏽

The chemistry and connection between Rick and Michonne have always been so profound to me, and they’ve been operating like one for a long long time. And in this scene, you just see every single reason why they are meant for each other and how they're ready to take their oneness to new levels. 🙌🏽🎉
Also in this episode, it feels like this is the one time when Rick, Michonne, Judith, Carl, and RJ are all in some way involved as we officially know Michonne will be pregnant after this. 😭
Ok, so first we gotta talk about the great Grimes Family 2.0 sequence just before because it's attached to this #1 moment for me. The episode starts with Rick waking up in his bed with Michonne asleep, and I love any time we get to see their everyday life side.
I adore the way Rick immediately places his attention on Michonne when she sleepily tosses to the other side. And then seeing that she may be feeling a bit restless, he gently gives her a calming kiss on the shoulder. Such a sweet silent act of love for his wife. 🥰
And I love seeing that Rick wakes up with this instant affection for her, just as Michonne does in the next ep when she wakes up and adoringly kisses him while he sleeps. 🥹
Also, this moment makes me a bit sad cuz it’s the last time Rick and Michonne will wake up together like this for years. 😢 But thank goodness they will hopefully soon have mornings together like this again. 🙌🏾
And then, after showing love to his wife, Rick hears Judith cough and goes to gently check on her as she also is sleeping in a similar position as Michonne. Seeing Rick in this house with his wife and daughter, you just know these are the two he’d do absolutely anything for. Including fighting every day for years to get back to them. 🥲
And then they gotta get my waterworks going when Rick walks down the steps and touches Carl’s handprint. Oh how I wish Carl was asleep in another room for Rick to check on. 😭 But the fact that even tho Carl is gone, Rick still finds meaningful ways to feel connected to him is beautiful and makes it feel like he really managed to have a genuine heartfelt moment with his wife, daughter, and son this morning. The truest family man. 🥰
Then Rick takes a walk in the lush community and it’s just nice seeing him get to really take in how much life is growing around them with all the plants and food sprouting up. This is so reflective of what he and Michonne have impressively built together, and Rick deserves this satisfying peaceful moment so much.
If Richonne had managed to carve out even a semi-decent life a year and a half after the pain of losing their son and fighting a war it would have been commendable. But for them to have healed to the point where they were living a genuinely happy robust life together, speaks to the revitalizing power of their love.
Everything is fruitful and growing in their community, and I love that just like that ripe red tomato Rick finds, Rick is also ready to be fruitful and multiply. Amen. 🥳
And as if the sequence wasn’t already precious enough, Rick places the red tomato at Carl’s gravesite, and he has this quiet moment with his son which just hits my heart. It's like Rick's letting Carl know he's making his dream real just like he promised. 😭
I love that Rick is so devoted to keeping Carl’s memory and wishes alive, including Carl’s desire for Rick to build a bountiful future - specifically one where “Michonne is happy.”
I’ve always found Rick’s teary smile at Carl’s grave interesting because it makes me curious what they're implying he’s thinking. I personally feel like part of it is Rick thinking about the fact that he’s ready to grow their family and knowing Carl would want that for them too.

So now onto my all-time favorite Richonne scene. 🙌🏽🥳
I truly love that they give Rick and Michonne this at-home, comfortable, living their everyday life moment in bed for their final irl conversation. 😍😭
Where my #2 scene from the season 5 finale was one I really appreciated for depicting Richonne's strength amid tough times, my #1 scene here is one I appreciate so much for depicting Richonne's strength during a time of overall calm. This moment wonderfully and angelically shows how Rick and Michonne's love soars when they finally get to live the peaceful life they fought so hard for.
So I of course love all the scenes where Richonne shower each other in love during high-stakes moments of adversity. But this rewarding scene is so special to me for being a moment of Richonne getting to shower each other in love during a rare time of normalcy after everything they’ve been through.
So Michonne is up in bed and working on the charter like the Get Things Done Grimes she is. And Rick returns to their room and the moment is just so calm and casual as they ask each other how they slept, and Michonne admits her mind won’t shut off. As we know from their canon ep, they’re very good at helping the other just turn their mind off for a bit and so Rick is def about to help her with that. 😋
I love seeing Rick take his boots off and get right back into bed cuz I know that man already had his mind made up to take today off and just be with his girls. I think about how refreshed Rick was in s9 even though so many of his OG friends were all spread out. And a big reason why he can still seem so content is because as long as he has Michonne and his daughter every day then he has everything.
Then Rick is so encouraging when he tells Michonne she’ll have the charter figured out by supper. Like the charter is a big deal to figure out, but he knows his goddess of a wife can handle it, and I love that he always has so much belief in her.

When Michonne smiles and says, "yeah, no," Rick is rightfully in full Michonne-stan mode as he tells her it’s good she's leading this place. I love how Rick knows and is grateful that Michonne is so capable of not just helping him lead but being a leader in her own right.
And I like that Michonne says, "with you" because it just shows how much she truly values their partnership and still only wants to lead if it’s with him. The “Me and you” way. 😊
It’s really sweet the way Rick says, "Nah, I’ve been at the bridge, here it’s you." He’s going to make sure Michonne gets credit where credit is due. And again, his reverence for her has always been so lovely to watch throughout this scene and this series. (Rick Grimes is a 'Michonner,' y'all 😋💕)
Also, it's great seeing that Rick is so comfy as he rests on the bed while letting Michonne know she’s the one whose been keeping this place safe and figuring out how to improve it. After roughing it in prison cells, the woods, and mattress-less rooms during the saviors' reign, it's great to see him get to just make himself comfortable in a warm bed with the love of his life.
And Michonne is all multi-tasking by listening to him, writing notes down, and setting a plan to take their daughter to the doctor. Like truly, Rick,...
But he already knows that. 😊
Then I love seeing this parents moment of them talking about Judith’s cough and taking her to the doctor. Rick assures that he checked on her and it’s probably just a cough but Mama Michonne still wants to be sure so she says she's going to take her to Siddiq just in case. And Rick is immediately on board saying he’ll join them. I love this dad, y’all. 🥰
Like this is what’s important to Rick always, so even as a leader with so much on his plate, being around for his family is always the priority, even for just an unassuming doctor's visit.
And I also love this exchange cuz It’s so clear that Rick and Michonne are equally Judith's parents and obviously have a lot of care for her that they want to take precautions even if it’s a small cough. I'll also just never get over that we went from Michonne saying, "You could've just taken the formula" to now her and Rick talking about Judith as the daughter they're raising together. 🤗
Then my uncontrollable smiling has returned when Rick tells Michonne that they’ll have to promise Judith a Family Fun Day to get her to go to the doctor. 🥰 I love that they’ve coined this term, indicating Family Fun Days are something they do often. They really are such a beautiful caring family, and their eventual family reunion that I've been trying to speak into existence since 2018 is going to be HEAVENLY. 😇
The fact that the word "fun" can even be a part of their lives now is refreshing. And I also love how much this family fun day is something Rick genuinely wants not just for Judith but for him and for Michonne too. Here for it.
Michonne smiles when he says this and then has a realization moment as she asks, "Aren’t you headed back right away?" And Rick says, "I can take the day" and then says “We can.” That man ain’t tell a lie. Rick and Michonne deserve a day off, and I like how this is the beginning of Rick helping Michonne know that it’s okay to take a break in this scene. 😏 And once again, Rick demonstrates that when he's with Michonne...the world can wait. 😌
Rick says the last report was good and “Maggie will be there soon thanks to you.” Which again I love that every chance Rick gets he’s giving Michonne her props.
There's also something a bit sad about this because Rick is so convinced that the others can hold it down for a bit but that ends up not being the case and results in their family fun day getting cut short indefinitely.
I really feel like because Rick values Michonne’s influence and insights so highly in his own life, that’s why he felt so confident that Maggie would have become on board after a visit with Michonne - because he would have had Michonne visited him. He thinks everyone should get in formation when Michonne speaks just like he does, and Rick, sincerely...
Always intuitive, Michonne knows that Maggie is still angry and Daryl too so she tells Rick this and he nods and then he asks, "Well you want me to go?" And I was like now Slick Rick knows the answer to that is no lol.
Michonne places her hand on his and says she wants it to work. And by reaching for his hand it shows that ultimately she of course wants him to stay with her, she just knows how much they’re needed by the others. #SelflessQueen
Also, there's just something so moving to me about the way she looks at him in this moment. Like of course Michonne is known for her only-envision-winning mentality, but here there is also a part of her that needs some reassurance that everything they're trying to do and build really can work despite all the underlying division within the communities and tf.
Needing some reassurance, her husband so sweetly gives her just that when Rick says "It will" in the most comforting tone. And I like how he positions himself to sit up and really look in her eyes as he lets her know that even if everyone isn’t all in yet they will be, “just like we did.”
I love that Rick and Michonne are always a “we”. They’re a package deal cuz they’re one. And that line just felt like a bigger statement to their own journey. How they truly went all in with each other.
And again the way Michonne looks at him is just heartwarming as she expresses agreement. Her love for him and belief is so visible and sincere. The way they can both always resonantly reach and reassure each other when they speak is perfection.
I love that she then says okay and touches his face, and I also was like sis, you know if you touch him like that this scene is gonna escalate lol. 😋
Then we get to one of my many favorite parts of my favorite scene when Rick looks at Michonne with such genuine abundant love in his eyes and tells her, "Thank you." 🥹
The way Rick always tells her thank you since season 3. 😭 I love the way he adores, praises, and reveres Michonne. Like, for Rick, it is always doting over Michonne hours.
Michonne asks, "For what?" which just reminded me of when Rick asks her "For what?" when Michonne said she never thanked him in the s3 finale.
And then the way Rick takes a breath and smiles at Michonne on this bed after she asks this - it literally makes me want to shed a tear. It’s just a beyond beautiful wordless moment that really feels like Michonne taking his breath away as he’s overcome with love for her. And that might sound dramatic but hey...
Rick has been in awe of her since literally day one at that fence, and to see seasons later, after getting to know her in the deepest sense, he still has that awe of Michonne but amplified. It's great. And Rick just looks so unabashedly mesmerized by her in this moment which is heartwarming.
Like when she asks 'for what?,' you can tell Rick is just marveling about how incredible she is and how the list of reasons to thank her is miles long.
And this is not really Rick and Michonne's newlywed stage anymore, y'all. This is their married for a while, been through hell and back together after losing our son stage, and Rick still looks at Michonne like she hung the moon and the stars. 😭
And then Rick takes the scene to new heights of heartwarming when he says exactly what he's thanking her for, stating “For everything you’ve done. For everything you’re doing. For you.” Absolutely perfect. 😍😭😍😭
And it's so fitting cuz Michonne really has done so much of value, past, present, and for the future. But the best of the best is Rick saying “for you” because he’s not just grateful for what she does but who she is. And she is someone exceptional.
I adore that in their final one-on-one irl scene Rick is outright thanking Michone for existing and for the lovely gift that she is and has always been in his life. Honestly, Rick's romantic heart needs to be studied because the things he says to and about Michonne are just everything and more. 🥹
Another thing that makes this scene and ep so special is Rick and Michonne don’t know this is their last day together. So for them, this is just another day. And I love it for showing how all this beautiful love and adoration they’re letting out is not because they’re trying to make their final day count - this is just how they are with each other on the regular.
And I love that we get to see Michonne’s reaction to receiving this genuine love and appreciation from her husband as he gives her her flowers. Michonne deserves every bit of this love. 🙌🏾💐
I am so excited that Michonne will get to have this type of love back in her life when she finally reunites with the man who adores her. 🤗 I firmly believe Rick’s awe of Michonne will only be heightened when he gets to learn how resilient she’s been in his absence for herself, their children, and their community. She’s had to be so strong for so many, and I love that she’ll finally be back in the arms of the one whom she can be most soft and taken care of with.
And the same goes for Rick. After being a man desperately looking and longing for his family while so alone for years - I am elated that he’ll be back with the woman who most makes him feel loved, sane, seen, and home.
When Rick and Michonne see each other again you know this is about to be a direct quote from both their minds...
Also, something that’s so sweet about the love story crafted for Rick and Michonne is that adoring each other comes so effortlessly to them. They don’t have to constantly remind or force themselves to be attentive and expressive to each other, it’s the most natural thing in the world for them to love this person in front of them out loud.
So yes it’s an active daily choice to love, but I appreciate that it also feels so aligned with how Rick and Michonne want to naturally operate - head over heels in the most grown, grounded, yet grand way. 🥰
Then, after saying something so authentic, accurate, and beautiful by thanking her for pretty much everything, the two share a sweet kiss. And their every kiss is so special to me. Like it’s always passionate no matter what. And just the way he looks at her after 😭 heart-melting. They're irresistible to each other and always have been. 😍
I especially love that Michonne then leans in and kisses him again as her own thank you for his kind words. Those magnets within them mean we’re always gonna see more than one kiss. 😋
And then she slides her hand down his neck and chest and once again I was like - now sis, you know things are about to escalate if you do that. 🤭
And sure enough…😋
Rick starts closing the books and moving them away as he invitingly says, "Why don’t you take a break?" 😏 I love it. It’s cute that Michonne is instantly tickled by this too. She knows what’s up. And she knows she’s down. ijs. 😋
But first she asks, "You want me to stop working?" and she knows good and well the answer is yes - but I love that Rick has always been a little extra when it comes to Michonne so he doesn’t only say yes. Instead, he takes the pencil out of her hand and flicks it away as he says, "yeah" in a way that will never fail to have me smiling and kicking my feet cuz like...
And Michonne was undeniably amused already, but she got especially tickled when he tossed the pencil. That man always has her smitten. 😊
I adore seeing this playful side of them and this reminder that Rick and Michonne are husband and wife and also best friends who could always make each other laugh.
Even more, I love how Rick fully believes Michonne can do any and everything…but he also knows she shouldn’t have to, especially not all the time. Which is why I appreciate his consistent thing of wanting to give them a chance to have a break and time to themselves.
It's sweet too how, without even fully seeing his face, you can still see from Rick's profile that he has this genuine proud smile upon seeing he made his wife laugh. Her joy is truly one of his favorite things. 🥹
Rick smiling at her here reminds me of how happy he was to have made Michonne smile when he came home with mints to give her in their canon ep seasons ago. #TheirLoveNeverFades
I adore that from season 3 saying "Good, cuz I see things" to this moment in season 9, Richonne stayed flirty with each other, both when strangers and when married. 🥰
And then Michonne teases as she asks Rick, "You want me to stop creating the foundations of a new civilization?"...The questions are just foreplay at this point because they both know what's about to happen rn lol. She and Rick both know that what he wants is in the first three words of her question. 😋
I love the way Michonne talks to him and looks at him and the way Rick can’t help but touch her and study her while she speaks, knowing this is the woman he is so ready to have another child with.
Somehow in this moment, Rick seems to be intently listening to her while also distracted by her all at the same dang time. 🤭

So Michonne is all cutely smiling at him while waiting for his answer... and then Rick gives an unforgettable answer.
(also the way even Rick and Michonne's movement is in sync in this scene is just 👩🏽🍳💋. they're magnets fr)
Rick looks right at Michonne and then says, “I can think of another way to build for the future” and it’s just ahhhhhh. The best. 😭 What a great way to reveal that Rick wants to have a baby with Michonne.
The scene organically transitions from like playful causal morning vibes to a huge serious declaration of love and development for their family and I'm too here for it. 😍
Rick wanting this baby is a huge deal, especially just a year and a half after losing Carl. And him being at this stage has everything to do with his belief in Michonne and him together and knowing he's with the love of his life who has in so many ways healed him with her one-of-a-kind presence.
He's seen the way he and Michonne work so well together in any role - parents, partners, lovers, leaders - and Rick has always known that the two of them can do anything, from reordering the world to raising a growing family.
So then Rick passionately kisses her after he says this - but like this is a giant statement and Michonne knows what he’s implying is a big deal, so she has this curious look at him. And then I absolutely adore this next moment of them transitioning to a more intimate position.
The way Rick is ready for her to do this little maneuver always felt like a nice little suggestion that they’ve done this often. And it’s just so sensual and romantic. 😍 But I also love this shift for showing how Michonne goes right out of work mode and wants to be so fully present and focused on him as she confirms that Rick is really saying what she thinks he’s saying. Their consistent ability to be present with each other deserves another shoutout cuz it's gold. 👏🏽👏🏽
Also, the way Rick just stays with his eyes glued to her as he holds her and the way Michonne tenderly holds his face in her hands. They knew they were gonna have little Richonner hearts everywhere doing front flips with this movement alone. And I ain't mad at it. 😋

Michonne looks right in Rick's eyes as she says a hopeful, "Yeah?" Then Rick says such a certain, "Yeah" that lets you know having a kid with Michonne isn’t some out-of-nowhere idea that just hit him but something he’s thought about and is sure about. Rick is always sure when it comes to him and her. 👌🏽
And you just know Rick loves their future baby already too, especially because the baby will be part of the woman he's madly in love with.
Michonne smiles and softly says, "okay" and then I love the way Rick eagerly pulls her in closer to him. 😊🧲
Then the last line of the scene is Michonne so sweetly repeating Rick's words back, as they so often do throughout their relationship, as she says, "For The Future." 🥹

Perfect. x1000.
What a fitting final line and final scene to conclude Richonne's last private exchange like this. Especially for two reasons.
One; thinking about the long-term future used to not be a luxury they had at the start of the apocalypse so it shows how far they've come. Two; Rick and Michonne were two people who, even before they met each other, fought to believe in the future even when others around them (and at times their own past partners) didn't. But in finding each other, Rick and Michonne found the one who could fight to live like them, believe in the future like them, and hold onto hope like them - And now here they are in love and getting to feel so hopeful about their future together. 😭
It’s great that such a major decision like having another kid is one Rick and Michonne were both so quickly on the same page about. They both are ready for this. Both want their splendid love to take form in a new life being brought into the world. 🥹
And again it’s such a testament to their powerful relationship and the way they were able to help build each other back up after losing Carl to the point that they could be healed enough to want another kid. I'll never get over it.
Then I adore this shot of Rick looking up at Michonne with the two bathed in light. It feels so reflective of how highly Rick's always viewed her and how Michonne's been the light in his life. She's his future. And he's hers. 🥰
The scene concludes with Rick and Michonne sharing their last irl passionate kiss as things finally escalate, and they savor each other as they do best. And this whole scene and final moment is just so beautiful it makes my heart hurt. Richonne is stunning and their love is a work of art. 🙌🏾

'Epic love story' really is the best way to describe Richonne, and I love love love that Rick and Michonne always enjoy reveling in Richonne. We have that in common. 😋
I just so appreciate that before he left the show, it was made crystal clear that what Rick wanted for his future was to bring life into this world with Michonne, the ultimate and unequivocal love of his life. 👏🏽 And he’s going to learn that even apart, that dream was still achieved. The Get Things Done Grimes got it done. The baby Rick loved before he even was made, lives. Oh I CANNOT wait for Rick to learn about and meet RJ!!! 🥳😭
Knowing Rick and Michonne's individual journeys, it genuinely moves me that two people who went through so much and lost so much but continued to fight for the people they love got personally rewarded with this gorgeous and deep love that’s just for them. And they didn’t shy away from the love that was there, rather they valiantly and completely embraced it and it’s truly what they deserve. They both deserve to be loved this wholly.
I know this is my undeniable #1 scene because each time I watch it, it warms my whole soul and I get fully enwrapped in it - just mesmerized and overjoyed from start to finish. Watching this #1 scene, during every single part I'm just like...
And Rick and Michonne Grimes bathed in bright sunlight and sharing a passionate kiss while acknowledging they want their future and their love to now take shape in the form of a child is just such a fitting final private exchange between them on TWD and so very special. They're a shining light to each other, to the franchise, and to me, y'all. ☀️

When I say Richonne is everything it’s not just a phrase. They literally have everything going for them and are everything to each other. And every scene from my 30th to this #1 moment masterfully illustrates their resplendent love.
This season 9 scene feels like a love letter to Richonne and it's my all-time favorite for capturing everything I adore about Rick and Michonne’s relationship all in one. Tens across the board.
I look at this whole scene and whenever I see it I just think - This is Richonne. For me, this scene is their definition. ♥️👌🏽
Richonne is truly love incarnate, and this beautiful top-tier moment captured that flawlessly. 👑🤍😌
#richonne#top 2 and it's not 2#number 1 🏆#from 6 year wait to 1 day away 😭#we really made it!! 🤩🙌🏽🎉#thanks for reading! ♡#it's twd towl eve!#rick x michonne#reveling in richonne#twd towl#twd 9.03#the ones who live#top 3#top 30

GojoHime: Evidence and Discussion
Jujutsu Kaisen isn't a romance series. It's a horror action series that focuses more on platonic bonds and camaraderie between its characters. That being said, just as any shounen series, it has its fair share of ships, each with its own assortment of crumbs and small details.
GojoHime is a particularly interesting ship to look at. Being a massive fan of it myself, it's fun to pick through the evidence that supports it. I'd like to share the evidence that I and many other GojoHime fans have found. I'll be starting with the smaller, weaker evidence first and working my way up to the strongest evidence.
Before I start in earnest, I want to clarify that this isn't made to attack any other ship. People can ship whatever they want, and no ship in the series is canon (aside from exceptions like Hakari and Kirara). I like GojoHime so I want to talk about it. That's really it.
With that out of the way, let's begin.
First, let's start with the evidence outside of the manga itself. This one isn't very compelling, but it is cute. In Japan, there is a chip brand called Bakauke. Bakauke has two mascots known as Borin and Barin, who are girlfriend and boyfriend. When Bakauke collabed with Jujutsu Kaisen, Utahime and Gojo were chosen to represent the Borin and Barin respectively, thus being depicted as girlfriend and boyfriend.

Moving on to evidence found within the actual manga, we see that on the splash page for Gojo and Utahime, the print behind them depicts arrows known as a Yagasuri pattern. In Japan, this is a symbol often used for weddings. It's meant for good luck because "a shot arrow does not return," and therefore, a married woman does not (or should not) return to her parents.

We also see depictions of them under an umbrella often used at weddings. Sharing an umbrella is also a common romantic trope in Japan.

Other smaller evidence exists in the form of their phone call. This consists a beeper code, where the number of their call spells out "I like you" in code, and another interesting detail is that Satoru calls Utahime from his recent contacts, implying that he calls her often.

Gojo and Utahime were made to be opposites. Aside from the obvious "opposites attract" trope, it creates a compelling visual story between them. Man and woman, strong and weak, modern and traditional, blue and red. Satoru hates alcohol and loves sweets while Utahime loves alcohol but hates sweets.

Gege said Gojo only puts down his Technique with people he trusts, which we see him do with Utahime. He trusts her enough to have to actively put his Technique back in place after she throws a teacup at him.

Moving on to some of the strongest and most convincing evidence, we have Waka Inoue, Utahime's very own technique, and Gege's past works.
Gojo had a picture of Waka Inoue as his background as a teenager. He clearly finds her attractive, as is common, considering she's a popular model, but the reason why this is important is that Inoue shares a lot of similarities with Utahime.
Both women have noticeable bangs, they're the same height (166cm), and they share a love for alcohol, karaoke, and sports, specifically baseball. Waka is described once as a "competitive crybaby who hates to lose," and as we see in the Anime, Gojo has a way of firing Utahime up and she is also prone to being a bit of a scaredy-cat and a crybaby. We also see her more competitive side come out during the baseball tournament between Kyoto and Tokyo.

Moving on to Utahime's Cursed Technique, as some Japanese fans have pointed out, Utahime's Soro Soro Kinku (Solo Forbidden Area) is based on a real love song about forbidden love with lyrics about a masked lover. The records from the singer, Akina Nakamori, are called Utahime records, and the singer even does Gojo's unlimited void hand sign during her live performances of her song, "Fin."

The most compelling bit of evidence for me is Gege's past works. Two of his three one-shot manga have characters who are very similar to Gojo and Utahime. The male protagonist is usually cocky and teases the female protagonist, while the female protagonist gets annoyed at his antics but is otherwise down to earth and kind.
In Nikai Bongai Barabarujura, the protagonist, Noroma, reminds me of teen Gojo in appearance and behavior. He is "the strongest" who teases Nodoka, the female protagonist, for being weak but has an obvious respect for her drive and inner strength.

In Kamishiro Sosa, we have a similar set-up as before. The male protagonist, Ganji, is very energetic and careless with the female protagonist, Rekko's, feelings, and is seen to have a very similar type of banter as Gojo and Utahime have.

Gege clearly likes that type of pairing, which isn't surprising given the bickering couple and rivals to lovers is a popular trope in romance. It's not unusual for Mangaka to reuse old ideas, and that seems to be what happened with Gojo and Utahime. Even their appearances share similarities.
As you can see, GojoHime has a lot of thought put into it, and it's very interesting to see the little details Gege has put into their dynamic. There's definitely a reason why so many adore this pairing, and I'm glad Gege has paid attention to that.

May I inquire about Sladick, Jaymia, and Jaydick for the Ship I/Don't Ship It ask game?
YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! puts on my sunglasses. I'll start with the Don't ship first, and then do the Ship.
Don't Ship
Sladick
Why don't you ship it?
Mostly the reason I don't ship it is because I don't ship anyone with Dick outside of with Jason. I Ship Sladickjay because Jason's also there, but if it's just those two... I'm gonna need Jason to step in XD Jason is good for Dick in a way no one else really can be, because no one else can get what it's like to be Bruce's charge. To have Bruce's expectations and purview colour your life, your childhood—and fuck Dick at the same time. Sorry this is supposed to be about Slade fuck. Uh. Orange pirate is compelling, and his greyness of character certainly is something that draws Dick to him I'm sure—so I can see it, just not in solitary on my own I won't seek it out.
What would have made you like it?
Fuck I just answered this. Whoops. Jason get in there. Then I like! xD I'll ship anyone with Dick as long as Jason's there, same with Jason. They are pair bonded okay? They're two cats. You separate them, I die. And they die. Three deaths. Is this the trolley problem you want?
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
Yes! Dick fuck more not-so-upstanding citizens. Especially ones who give you a break from the expectations placed on you, the moral high ground you like to take so often, step into the gutter for a mere moment and let yourself breathe and be a human. You deserve a break, you're burning yourself at both ends. Slade. Prepare to be bossed around you man whore. They would have great sex. But like. It would get really emotionally weird.
Ship
Jaymia, Jaydick
What made you ship it?
Jaymia I started shipping right after rejoining DC fandom last year around... June/August. I found the new Jason anti train and it really threw me for a loop, and then I saw Mia's name being dragged into things—and then I started finding the Jaymia defense posts by my now friends, and it all started to click. Out of some spite and out of recognition of how they really do play well together. From their backgrounds to their runs as sidekicks to their meeting in Seeing Red. They have a lot to say together, and do together. They have a lot of potential as romantic partners and as friends! Also it's one of the only ships I can see Jason in without Dick also being there.
Jaydick I've been shipping since 2015. I am a fucking veteran of this ship. I made a promise to myself in that year I'd always carry them with me and I have.. I have kept that promise xD despite my sabbatical for a couple years from DC. I think I found a random Jason/Dick fic while scrolling AO3 and it just snowballed from there. As of current day, the reason I ship it is here and I have things to elaborate on. like the neuroses. Jason wouldn't be attracted to dick without the neuroses. Jason cares about Dick because he desperately wants a connection with literally anyone and if the way hes getting that is by fucking Dick then. well. hes gonna fuck him xD
What are your favourite things about the ship?
Whistles. Let me try to be succinct. (Will Fail at this)
Jaymia
Mia gets a lot out of this relationship, she's challenged and is allowed to interface with compelling questions to develop her like her ethics or moral with Jason—while at the same time Jason is also allowed to be drawn into a different light, with someone who doesn't instantly write him off. He's her type. She's his type. They're really meant to converse with one another. Having each other in their respective corners would not only be an assurance but actively soothing I think. They understand each other in a way that other people cannot, they can well and properly interface with one another. And they have a meet-ugly. There's just so much to explore with their characters together! And not so much baggage.
Jaydick
Jason is someone Dick doesn't have to be perfect around and can fuck up with without thinking about it, and like, the thing is, this relationship formation is different than Dicks others. Jason comes into the relationship w Dick with a very subpar view of him, and Dick has to contend with that. That Jason thinks lowly of him but will still lie with him. And what that means about himself and what that means for Jason. Like, Dick has so many preconceived notions of what Jason is, or is supposed to be. I think Jason would help Dick become his best self, and that Dick could come to help Jason be his best self. It just takes... a lot of time. It's not an easy relationship. Their assumptions about each other getting dismantled/challenged is the prime draw to me.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on the ship?
Jaymia — I don't think I butt heads with my fellow shippers, I literally know each one of them. There's like. Ten of us. For this, I think the unpopular opinion I have butts heads with antis perceptions, for the obvious reasons. No Jason did not re-traumatize her, no he was not degrading her, no he is not unconscionably evil, no Mia is not put into a mothering role, no Mia is not fixing him, no she is not sidelined for his man-angst. Everyone shut up. I hit you with hammer now. Jaydick — so fucking many. I don't think Jason needs fixing, he doesn't need Dick's fucking saving of all things, nor does he need to be 'redeemed' by Dick, OR to be 'brought back into the family'. Everyone fuck off, this is operation GET DICK OUT OF THERE. Jason is good for Dick because he helps Dick away from Bruce ffs. Dick is good for Jason only after a lot of time. At the beginning, Dick is really... a negative for Jason. The positives do crop up but like, Jason's not in it for the 'right' reasons—he's there out of desperation and kind of hurting himself via Dick. It's really complicated a relationship. I do think their relationship does and can get good, and be something 'healthy' but like... It is hard work. It is a hard work relationship. That effort, that presence, the strive to be there for someone to try to learn them to try to understand, to challenge yourself for the betterment, that is the glorious part of them. Dick is fundamentally someone who loves and is compassionate and so is Jason. Them learning each others commonalities and learning to really get along and be there for each other. Yes. None of this "Jason needs to repent to Dick Jesus Christ Grayson" bs.
