Sae Niijima is such a good character it drives me insane a little. She's not a mother nor a maternal or doting older sister but instead a twenty four year old who was thrown into a position of responsibility that she never asked for. She loves Makoto just as much as she resents her and its so apparent every time they talk up until November. "Are you studying?" (I want you to do well) (I need you to get a job and stop making my life harder) "I'll use any method necessary to get this promotion" (Life will be easier for us) (So stop distracting me with your problems) "Focus on your future" (I know that you're capable) (I can't afford to waste my time on you, so stop wasting time on others)

Makoto is not only the sole reason she pushes as hard as she does for a promotion, for success, and the reason that she loses herself in her animosity over her fathers death, but also someone she can't stand for so long. Makoto was 14-15 when their father died. Sae was 21. As soon as she got the career she wanted and things started to look up, her stability was robbed from her and she was disillusioned with the system that her father had taught her to rely on and completely adhere to. How do you manage, the daughter of a cop, following his footsteps towards law enforcement, when you're suddenly reminded of how unfair it is? You can't quit, your little sister relies on you and she's so young and struggling just as badly with this grief. So you pick yourself up and you get moving again. You push harder, press further. You abandon your morals and your ethics because punishing criminals (guilty or not) is almost like punishing the man who killed your father.

And the whole time she's fighting for promotions, going for drinks with the SIU Director to make herself more favourable for promotions, trying to navigate being a woman in a competitive, suffocating, male-dominated field, falling behind despite doing so much where others are promoted for doing so little - all the while your little sister comes back from school and her biggest issues are so small compared to yours.

Persona 5 revolves so heavily around grief and loss and change and Sae embodies all of that so well, all of the sharp and unpleasant and jagged parts of grief.

wasn’t it so crazy that there’s a million characters that could’ve told harry about james and lily (especially after SWM) and rowling just never included scenes of that? harry doesn’t inquire about anything specific either if i remember correctly. and not just professors/wolfstar, even some of the weasley boys were still old enough to remember jily (bill was 11 when they died, no?). jily’s classmates who must have heard james and lily died so young and left their son orphaned. like it’s just so insane to me that harry knows next to nothing about his mother and father and has little to no familial objects to remember them. outside of small comments about their character (and the shit snape said about james that altered harry’s perception of him)… did harry know anything about them? harry was so very loved and he doesn’t even truly know.

Now! To be fair! Jade was a close second (the yearning, the complexities, the Strong Woman With Sword), and i do find Boorman absolutely delightful but in the end it has to be Kit. Blorbo material of all times for the following reasons:

Jade won my heart in the fighting department (due to polearm/sword combo and general Knightliness) but Kit has some really strong and hot combat moments, particularly when she gets clever and cocky about things. She may not have brute strength or full military training but she does have an attitude and some fancy footwork!

it's about faith, the faith the mortals have in the gods and that the gods have in mortals, the faith in their creations, in and for their love of each other. and there is something so moving and intoxicating and emotional about that depiction, of gods deciding to become mortals to achieve an end goal, but of learning how much mortals love and feel and suffer

just the love between them all, everyone depicted. the wildmother and the lawbearer... the emissary.... trist and ayden, the everlight and the dawnfather... fucking just....everyone

idk man this sort of tragic story really just gets me so so so fucking bad, it hits me in such a unique way

i spent my first time playing this game with no idea that you could remove the bloodless debuff using Lesser Restoration and so Tilly spent like fully an entire third of her run going through all of that combat and exploration and cult destroying while mildly anaemic. my friends only told me about this yesterday and we all had a good laugh at my expense but we also decided that this is probably what was happening. and honestly. in any case it is a PAINFULLY in character Tilly thing for her not to be aware of this so I'm adding it to my beloved gallery of Tilly Tosscobble 10 INT Moments. not pictured: Gale frantically adding iron-rich foods to the evening meal every night
