honestly i think the duskborn rune is really burying the lead narratively. like, "death restored" just seems so... patently false as a descriptor? fia & co are kind of trying to do the Opposite of that.

like, ok, those who live in death came about because of ranni's two-time fracturing of the rune of death—once to unleash a tiny piece of it, and a second time to split the death between her and godwyn. explicitly, because of that second fracture, godwyn exists trapped in an in-between state, simultaneously dead and unable to die. he is dead but his corpse is also a living thing, growing blindly without consciousness. TWLID are similarly afflicted. their bodies are reborn over and over without release, and do not seem to... uh, retain a consciousness.

presumably, putting the rune of death back into the elden ring would stop the cycle of rebirth for everyone, not just them. if death were permanently unleashed onto the lands between, i think even godwyn would probably find release. b/c it's not just that ranni split their deaths—she also did it using a tiny stolen fragment of the rune, with maliketh still holding onto most of it. and you need The Whole Thing to end the game. so these... tiny traces are not really doing it.

crucially, fia could, but does not, ask you to restore that rune. instead, she gives you a new one. the one that she created by merging ranni's half-wheel with godwyn's. that will embed "life within death" into the order. if fia isn't trying to spread undeath to everyone in the lands between, wtf is she trying to do?? why does the rune seem to want to imply that she's restoring the natural order, when she herself seems to be so strongly against that possibility??

ive mentioned before how ive always thought it was a little bizarre that so many white people's first assumption when they see a white-looking person with a culturally unexpected surname is "oh they're adopted" despite how much more common a person being multiracial is compared to being the white adopted child of non-white parents - although of course it does happen, its just yknow. the people saying this are usually not thinking about the racial dynamics in the adoption industry so much as they are just assuming mixed race people don't exist LOL

but on that end, in my own mixed race bias I usually assume multiracialness first so i did completely forget about another decently common situation where a white-looking adult (often a woman) might have a last name from a non-white culture: i forgot that um. sometimes people (particularly women) change their last names when they get married? neither my mom nor any of my aunties did so you have to forgive me orz

#literally i completely forgot. genuinely #i met a woman with my mom she gave us her business card. she did not look japanese but had a japanese last name #and i was like mentally oh cool a whitepassing biracial sister. and then my mom who had chatted with her a bit longer mentioned later #the woman had changed her name when she got married. and i was like. ah. people take others names sometimes. i forgor #im like weirdly possessive over my extremely common last name in that i never considered changing it if i ever get married #like to the point where if i DID get married i also kind of wouldnt want my partner to take my name either. its mine.#like yes we're joining in a union representing everlasting love and companionship and tax benefits or whatever #but thats myyyyyyyy name :( LOL yeah i dunno either. i dont even feel right giving my name to my own art #but i like. genuinely blanked it out of my head for a while there. i genuinely forgot about marriage name changes #im so sorry. i think i nearly forgot that people get like officially married too (common law parents) ..... forgive me jfdslkdsdjkfs
