Tolerance (Dragon Ball x RWBY Crossover)
*Pyrrha Nikos groaned, as she temporarily removed her circlet to wipe the sweat from her brow, while Shallot was gorging himself on the roasted meat of animals; as the pair were out camping*
Pyrrha: *annoyed* "Could you not eat like that?"
Shallot: *mouthful* "Emmf hmmf hmmph (Eat like what)?"
Pyrrha: *rolls her eyes* "Nevermind." *places her circlet back on*
Shallot: *blinks, swallowing his food* "Okay, I get the feeling that ya don't like me much."
Pyrrha: "Well, your demeanor is less to be desired, you idolize an arrogant, prideful, and racist war criminal, and don't get me started on your relationship with Weiss."
Shallot: *irritated* "Okay, one, it's not that bad! Two, Vegeta has reasons! Three, I could say the same about your weird relationship with your leader."
Pyrrha: *exhales* "We at least love one another, more than I could say about you and Weiss' tryst."
Shallot: *squints* "So...a fancy way of saying fuckbuddies? Wow, and I thought Weiss was judgy."
Pyrrha: *raises an eyebrow* "Maybe..."
Shallot: *scoffs* "Wanna hear what I think of you since you started this? You're a coward! And I don't mean as a fighter, I mean as someone who just constantly apologizes for shit that's not worth apologizin' for!"
Pyrrha: *turns to Shallot* "It's called being polite--!"
Shallot: "There's bein' polite, and then there's bein' a doormat! That's what you are, lady! The 'Invincible Girl', ha! What a laugh! It's easy to beat the hell outta people who use weapons all the time. Nobody's invincible, not you....or me."
Pyrrha: *furrows her brow once more* "I know that. Cinder gave me that grim reminder." *caresses the scar on her chest* "I suppose it's the pressure of being placed upon a pedestal."
Shallot: *blinks, picking up a roasted deer leg* "Duh, Miss Cereal Mascot." *takes a large bite out of the leg*
Pyrrha: "Though, I've learned to handle the pressure, while you're trying to set yourself up as a 'redeemer'."
Shallot: *stops eating* "Excuse me?"
Pyrrha: "Gohan told me about your situation, and you're trying to make up for the sins of your kin."
*The two fighters sat there silent, while Shallot chows down on his meal*
Pyrrha: "So, what if we don't hate each other as much as we used to?"
Shallot: *blinks* "You sayin' you've actually grown fond of me?"
Pyrrha: *exhales* "Don't push it. I just... tolerate you now."
Shallot: *shrugs* "I guess...I tolerate ya, too."

Idea for a story
Makuta Krika
First Impression: Well, Krika came out in 2008, which was at the tail end of my long side from involved, caught-up teenaged Bionicle fan (which peaked about 2003) to my "Bionicle Dark Ages." Krika was "the white one," and I was barely collecting "the red ones"--so he was very off my radar. I didn't much care for him: the dual-moulded parts didn't look so much white as off-white, and I didn't like them. And he looked kind of like a bug, and... I'm just not a bug person.
Impression Now: Since my return to Bionicle-fandom, 2008 is still the year I feel like I missed the most (somehow--2009 and 2010 are RIGHT THERE), but Krika is the one Makuta that somehow manages to be both a real character that I can distinguish (like, say Miserix) and a set I can picture without trying to keep them straight (the only other is Antroz--because, you know, he's the red one). The fact that Krika comes closest in canon to being a grey, rather than black villain obviously endears him to the fandom, and I can see the appeal.
Favourite Moment: It's probably more of a passage, really, but that "you Toa are what we Makuta want to be" is the kind of subtext that launches a thousand ships, so to speak.
Idea for a Story: Along the foregoing lines, Krika's moral ambiguity makes him interesting. He's the 2008 Makuta whose morals seem like they could easily align with a MNOG-Makuta's void of chaos message. An AU where Krika survives to Spherus Magna and gets selected by Mata Nui to be his brother (i.e. the guardian of his sleep and a co-creator of his new world) would allow for a whole lot of theme-revisiting and image-recasting for anyone intrested in that kind of stuff.
Unpopular Opinion: Honestly, it's probably that I still don't really like dual-mouled parts.
Favourite Relationship: With Krika, your major options are basically the one of the other Makuta or the Toa Nuva. But in line with some of the foregoing, I like the idea of seeing him relate to the Matoran. His reflective-but-ultimately-not-heroic take on the place of the Makuta makes him less of an antagonist to them than his kin, and I get the sense that he'd have liked their adulation at least as much as Teridax.
Romantically? Well, I don't really have a serious one, but maybe Krika/Dalu would be entertaining. The power disparity with the Voya Nui Resistance badly-rebuilt Matoran entertains me, and I think he needs a determined, implacable force of nature personality--someone doggedly persistent--to draw him out of his accustomed malaise.
Favourite Headcanon: Krika would be a melancholic poet, given the opportunity, writing sappy ballads in a lonely, elegant turret. A "Lady of Shallot" fangirl in the worst Anne of Green Gables way.

First up, Ciri and Adda from The Swallow of Novigrad
"They already do" Ciri interrupted, nodding towards the parchment lying on the table between them. "They always will and once your son comes of age they will do the same to him. It’s a wound they cannot stop probing, a knife they will not stop twisting. They will not stop because you ask them nicely or meekly roll over." Ciri sent the parchment sliding across the table. "They want to call you a Striga? Fine. Be the Striga. Go for their throats."
The room fell silent once more. The rain was now beating on the glass windows of the tower as the queen stared down at her painted reflection.
"Do you know what human blood tastes like?" Adda asked suddenly. "Not the little drops you get when you prick your finger on a needle, real blood still being pumped by the beating heart of your victim? The way they move when you sink your fangs and claws into them." She clenched her fist, painted nails digging into the palm of her hand. "I do, I remember. Not all of it mind you, not as coherent memory but flashes, shards of events that surface at the oddest time." She slowly unclenched her fist. "And they think I'm a danger to them. When I first held my newborn son and the only thing I could think of was that I knew, knew, what he would taste like. I almost throw myself from the tower. And the church laughs and use my pain against me." The queen breathed out and then seemingly steeled herself.
"Fine then." She said at last "Let's be the Striga."
From Where Paths Lead
He passes quickly through the forested hills and into the valley duchy proper. The pines and firs, woodcutters cottages and summer huts used by the shepherds give way to deciduous forest whose last colors are draining away, small villages with brightly painted houses and terracotta rooftiles. The landscape opens up and soon the gentle hills are covered with empty fields, with sprawling estates and small castles. And vines, everywhere vines. Covering the plains and climbing up on terraced hillsides, attended by farmers who carefully prepare them for winter. The red and white lifeblood of Toussaint he thinks and surprises himself with the poetic twist of his thoughts. Is it age or the coming change of season that has led him down this road?
Eskel has never been one to wax poetic. He supposes it something in the water.
Soon he reaches the Sansretour, winding as it does through the landscape, watering the hills and fields of the duchy. The bridge crossing it is constructed from pale and weathered stone and from the inn cleverly built into it an aroma of fried river fish and shallots wafts onto the passersby, beckoning them inside. Eskel can hear the songs and raucous laughter from the common room, the odd sing-song cadence of Toussaintese inflated common tongue. With the twilight quickly approaching, he is sorely tempted to stay on for the night. But he presses on, purposefully, determined yet careful to let his horse pick its steps so that it doesn't fall. Far ahead the bells of Beauclair are singing, silver notes ringing out into the night sky as the sun sets behind the Amell mountains.
It is most definitely something in the water.

"Yes madam, Ro-the captain-general" a ghost of as smile touched Ves face as she recited, "’was hoping that your close proximity to the empress coupled together with a residual loyalty to the Temerian royal house would entice you to look favorably upon his request.’"
Triss raised an eyebrow, "Is that really what he said captain?"
Ves didn’t move a single facial muscle "No madam. His exact words were 'Merigold is the only one in that lot I know we can count on, she's a slippery cunt but she always looked out for Foltest and his kin when she could, even when she didn't have to'.
Triss chuckled. "Now that sounds like the Vernon Roche I know." She nodded to the other woman who stood. "Thank you for bringing me this captain. I will make sure to forward the information to the empress. Try and get some rest, the castle is a safe as we could make it" Ves nodded and turned about in place. Triss watched her leave and again lifted her teacup to her lips. It had grown cold. She softly blew on the cup, steam starting to rise as it reheated. As she sipped her now warm tea she read the letter for a third time, before folding it up and putting it into the embroidered purse attached to her belt. She pushed herself up from the chair by the armrests and left the balcony, carrying peace and war in her purse as her tea again grew cold behind her.

Pumpkin Ravioli (V)
Gourd news: We’re not done celebrating the most notorious squash of the season. We haven’t quite gotten our fill of the ingredient yet, so have decided to fill pasta with it for this gourdegous pumpkin-stuffed pasta recipe. Psst: We know ravioli-making can seem daunting, but we’re here to pump(kin) you up for this fun and not-so-tricky task. Observe below.
Ingredients:
Your favourite pasta dough (with or without gluten, you decide)
Filling Ingredients:
1 cup pumpkin purée*
½ cup Garlic Cashew Ricotta*
½ tbs nutritional yeast
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 tbs ground flax
Salt and cayenne pepper, to taste
*Pro Tip #1: We suggest straining your purée overnight if you can, but if you’re too excited to wait, just go for it!
*Pro Tip #2: We used ½ cup soaked cashews with the juice of half a lemon, plus one clove of garlic, all blended together, to create our plant-based ricotta, but any recipe will do.

Sauce Ingredients:
1 shallot, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
3 tbs vegan butter
½ cup vegetable broth
1/3 cup dry white wine
1 to 2 tsp minced thyme
Lemon wedges, for serving

Steps:
In a bowl, combine all your filling ingredients and mix until well blended. Pour the filling into a Ziploc or piping bag, then let it chill in the fridge while you prepare your dough.
Time to roll. If you have a pasta machine, lucky you. No machine? No problem. On a clean, flat, floured surface, roll out your favourite pasta dough yourself, creating long strips, thick enough to be folded in half over your filling, like the ones pictured above. Want more precise measurements? For dough that’s easier to manage, we suggest rolling until your dough is about 1/8 of an inch thick, 15 inches long, and 5 inches wide. (Divide the dough into multiple portions if more conducive to rolling.)
Take your filling out from the fridge. Cut the corner of your piping bag and staring piping teaspoon-sized dollops of filling along the length of one half of your rolled dough. (See photo above.) Keep to one half of your rolled-out dough. Your dough should be able to fold in half over these dollops, and be sure to leave enough space between each scoop (about ½ an inch apart) so that you can seal each of your ravioli.  
Before you close your pasta, moisten the dough with clean, wet hands (or a brush), brushing the dough around the filling.
Fold your dough in half, taking care to push the dough carefully around the filling, so that small bumps form around the centre, and the edges are flat.
Slice between each filled pocket, separating each ravioli piece. Use a fork to press down on the edges of each pasta noodle to seal. If needed, clean up the edges of your pasta by trimming with a knife.
Prepare a pot of boiling water. White you are waiting, begin preparing your pasta sauce. Melt your vegan butter over medium heat, then add your shallot, sautéing until fragrant and slightly caramelized. This should take about five minutes. Add garlic, and cook for another minute.
Next, add your white wine to your saucepan and cook over medium to high heat, until liquid reduces. Add your broth, thyme, and salt and pepper, reduce heat, and let simmer.
Once your water is at a boil, cook your fresh ravioli for about three minutes. Once they are done cooking, spoon them into your saucepan. Pro Tip: If a bit of the boiling water pours into the sauce, no matter! It will help to thicken your sauce.
Mix well. Serve with fresh thyme and a squeeze of lemon.

Canon Call!
Shallot kinnie from Dragon Ball Legends here! 👋
I’m looking for any DBL sourcemates, but I’d love to see if I can find some canonmates too! I’m from three different timelines, but I’m canon-calling for one specifically (since I have the most memories of it).
If anyone remembers:
Giblet always being stronger than me and me being jealous of him.
Giblet joining the main crew (Bulma, Jaco, etc.), rather than I.
Me being manipulated by the Dark Ki, rather than Giblet.
Me hunting down other Tournament participants, not necessarily to “slay the tainted Saiyans”, but more so to “prove” I’m strong (and hopefully grow even stronger than my brother).
Me being overjoyed when I finally knocked Giblet down during a duel.
Me wearing a cloak similar to Giblet’s canon red one, only blue.

The Baker’s Table: Comfort at its Finest

While walking around Ironforge during some time off, I had got to ask a couple of the people of the proud city what their favorite comfort food was. Many of them had different answers, but the one that was agreed with the most was a slab of Beer Basted Boar Ribs.
Given the knowledge of the Dwarves, the secret itself is in the malt and what kind of Boar you yield it from. I had personally used a Rhapsody Malt and made out to be a wonderful dish. I would highly suggest having a beer with this entree as well.
Beer Basted Boar Ribs:

Prep Time 30 mins. Cook Time 3 hours
Ingredients:
One 3 pound rack of Spare Ribs
Salt and Pepper to taste
1 TBSP of Olive Oil
2 Shallots, diced
1 clove of Garlic, minced
1 cup Catsup (Ketchup)
1 mug of ale, Malt preferably
2 TBSP of Worcestershire Sauce
2 TBSP of Molasses
1 TBSP of Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tsp of Red Curry Paste
1. Keep the fire low and slow, (Preheat your oven to 275*F). Line a rimmed baking sheet or a deep pan with aluminum foil and set a rack over the top. Place the ribs on this rack, meat side up, and sprinkle richly with salt and pepper. Place over the fire to start cooking, (place in the oven to begin slow-cooking).
2. Place a saucepot over a medium heat source and add the oil, shallots and garlic. Cook until the shallots are soft and the garlic is aromatic, 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in the curry paste to cover the shallots and garlic, then add the rest of the ingredients. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring often, until the mixture has been reduced to a semi-thick sauce. (For a smoother sauce, blend the mixture with a blender until no pieces of shallot or garlic remain.)
3. The ribs will slowly cook for about 3 hours. Baste with the sauce every 20 to 30 minutes or so, (cover the underside a few times too), until you get a nice broad layer of sauce. Allow to cool slightly after.
This, my friends and readers, is one heavy dish, but it is most certainly one of those kinds of dishes that will make you want to warm up to a stranger, or even share with kin, friends and family.

Vegeta?
Mariko froze at the mention of the Saiyan prince. Nappa never liked to talk about his past with Vegeta, but Mariko was receptive enough to understand what it meant for him. He was the reason he was sent to Hell, the biggest and hardest betrayal a Saiyan could ever face -- the one coming from his kin.
But Shallot would never do that, right? He wasn't like Vegeta, he wouldn't use her and dismiss her as soon as a better situation arose. And yet... The more she tried to deny it, the more Mariko realised the similarities between the two. Both prideful and arrogant, both opportunistic in order to reach their goals. What if, before losing his memory, Shallot had actually been a younger version of the Saiyan prince? Just as ruthless and merciless?
But Shallot had a sweeter part: Mariko had seen it only a couple of times, but it was heartwarming enough to make her heart mellow at the memory. In a way, she knew he cared for her. Maybe not the way she hoped, maybe it would have never happened, burn.. No, Shallot could never be like Vegeta.
At least, she prayed so.
"But... Vegeta got better, didn't he?" She asked frantically. "He became good, he even married a human girl..." A blush coloured her cheeks. That detail was not important at the moment. "Shallot is not as vicious as Vegeta used to be! Sure he's... Brash and talks without thinking and calls me 'brat' all the time..." Wait, she wasn't exactly helping. Why was she even saying it? She shook her head and sent Nappa a decisive look. "Everyone deserves a chance! Everyone should be given an occasion to show their better side! ... Like you," she murmured, now hesitant. "You wouldn't be here if Chronoa hadn't thought there was more about yourself."
She lowered her head with a sigh, lost in her thought. Until Nappa's question brought her back to reality. She glanced at him and shook his head. "He's not weak. Not at all," she answered. "But... He has no idea about how most thing works here. Robots, shops..." She let out a tired sigh. "I think he comes from a much earlier time than yours, even."

Something cringed in Mariko’s chest at Nappa’s words. “He’s… He’s not taking advantage of me!” She protested. “He promised to teach me some of his moves, I am training! I swear, and he’s strong too!”
Although, a bitter sense of guilt still stung her heart. She hadn’t spent as much time with Nappa, lately. Shallot was such a troublemaker, always picking fights left and right, that she couldn’t stop keeping an eye on him even for a minute.
Or maybe, she just didn’t want to…?
She shook her head at those thoughts and gave Nappa a begging look. He was the best mentor she could have ever asked for, and even more than that. The moments with him had an heartwarming touch Mariko realised she had missed for too many years in her life. Nappa was a guide, a protector, a teacher… The first person she would have called if she needed an hand. He was inspiring under so many points, and knowing she had disappointed him… It just broke her heart.
“I know it sounds weird, but I swear to you, Shallot is nice!… In his own way,” she had to divert her eyes for a moment before. Shallot wasn’t exactly nice to her… Or, well, he had been in a couple of occasions. And they were such sweet moments… But so frustratingly rare.
“He’s my responsibility, I took him here, and he knows nothing about this world!” She went on, looking back at Nappa, “It’s not his fault if–”
But before she could finish, Nappa had already shouted his demanding words. Mariko shivered; the first thing she had tough on their very first meeting was that she would have never wanted to see an angry Nappa. And she was right. He was terrifying.
“I-I don’t know!” She stammered, partly because of the fear, mostly because if Nappa had faced Shallot in that mood… She didn’t want to think of the consequences. “He stays at mine but he doesn’t like being inside, he could be everywhere…!”

“Nice in his own way?” Nappa repeated Mariko’s words back to her in the form of a question, but didn’t expect to receive an answer back as he continued on. Teeth bared and gnashing like a perturbed guard dog as he spoke. “Your responsibility? It’s NOT HIS FAULT?!”

Growling to give pause to his ranting and raving, Nappa clenched his fists tightly at his sides and closed his eyes. Though his volume dropped, his anger remained. “That’s exactly what I used to say to myself…about Vegeta.” 
The elder Saiyan couldn’t even mention the name of his former comrade and prince without it dripping with venomous vitriol. That bitterness towards someone he thought was a friend who used him then betrayed him by tossing him aside spread throughout Nappa’s body like poison. He had almost forgotten this emotion that he felt mentally and physically for so long without a break. Yet it came back in an instant when faced with a similar sounding situation. 
         He couldn’t stand the thought of Mariko suffering the same way he did. 
                    He wasn’t going to let that happen a moment longer. 
The look he had seen on Mariko’s face told him that she was scared he was going to hurt this stupid boy who couldn’t even take care of himself. She’d probably say anything to avoid this guy she was gaga for suffering any harm. Even if he deserved it. That’s how things were, when you blindly cared about someone else.  
Feh, how stupid to fall for someone who couldn’t be independent. Lost memories wasn’t a good enough excuse! But…he needed to calm down. In this current emotional state of his, he was going to make another mistake. Jeopardize the privilege he had of being here instead of in Hell. If he was going to teach these two a lesson, he couldn’t do it while blind with rage. He had to calm down…and think. Not blindly charge this no-good punk! Even if that’s exactly what he wanted to do.
                                                   ….Teach….
                                          …yes…that’s it…teach.
It was his duty to teach this younger generation how to be strong, independent warriors who valued and respected one another. To depend on each other for help, not handouts and unhealthy relationship dynamics. To learn from the mistakes he made in the past so they didn’t have to suffer from learning the hard way.

Surprising himself, Nappa managed to let go of those intense feelings he had moments ago, allowing his fury to simmer down. He barely opened his eyes to cast a dry look at his student, a nonverbal expression of how unimpressed he was with this guy she was talking about. Soon the foul mood completely dissipated from the air and his body so the bald Saiyan could speak again without scaring poor Mariko. 
“Infiltration babies seem just as helpless, but they could conquer planets on their own just fine. You telling me Mr. Forgetful’s weaker than a Third-class baby?”
