I know there are a growing number of Youngsters who have been whipped into a frenzy of paranoia and suspicion about Oldsters. I know they've been tricked into believing there are upper age limits on tumblr and other parts of the internet and that anyone over the age of, like, 22 is a creepy dangerous predator who shouldn't be here and thus must have twisted sicko motives for remaining online past their imaginary use by dates.

I also know that all that nonsense has been dreamed up primarily by conservative extremists whose goal is to isolate and alienate folks to make them more susceptible to their poisoned propaganda.

Yes, media literacy is failing at all levels, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to learn. If you're properly motivated. And I feel like learning you're becoming a conservative redcap would be motivation enough to fight back against the indoctrination.

Sex Repulsion is not the same thing as, or an excuse for, Sex Negativity

I am a sex-repulsed asexual. This means that I am uncomfortable and repulsed by the idea of engaging in sexual acts. This does not mean that I have an excuse to be repulsed by other people's sexual attraction or the right to police how other people engage in or express sexual acts or attraction.

Young queer people need to learn the difference between sex repulsion and sex negativity, and actively work to unlearn sex-negative attitudes. Asexuality, even sex-repulsed asexuality, is and should be fully compatible with sex positivity.

If you are uncomfortable with the idea of other people feeling sexual attraction or engaging in sexual acts that do not involve you in any way, that is not sex repulsion it is the cultural Christianity and you need to seriously work on that.

A reminder that lesbians need abortions too. There are tons of reasons why a lesbian might need an abortion so kindly stop saying we are lucky we don’t have to worry about the current state of the US. So much of Garak as a person starts to make sense once you know his childhood was a fucking gothic novel. His main playground was a graveyard and he'd play pretend by perfoming improv eulogies to an imagined audience. For a long time his main touchstone for most important figures from recent history is 'oh yeah I know about that guy my dad buried him. great flower arrangements for that one'. He finds out later his 'parents' are actually a brother and sister who had to get married to avoid the utter shame and social devastation of having a child born out of wedlock, and they live in the basement of his biological father's house. (the madwoman in the attic vs. the tiny elim in the basement.) His biological father calls himself his uncle and locks him in a closet whenever he fails to live up to his insane and unpredictable expectations and everyone just has to act like that's normal and expected, and his will hangs over everything at all times, unseen but always felt keener than anything else. The father who actually raised him grows the world's most beautiful (and as it turns out, most poisonous) orchids and keeps the mask of a god hidden in a box in his work shed. Everyone in the house is choking down secrets like it's the only air they know how to breathe anymore.

What I'm saying is that right from the get-go this guy never had the faintest shot at turning out normal, so I'm glad that by middle age he's found a way to get a bit silly with it as he continues to be deeply deeply not normal about anything ever <3

Make more Sex repulsed characters. Make more Romance repulsed characters. Make more loveless aro characters. Make more Non-Partnering characters.

and most of all: don't make these identities flaws. Don't "fix" them by the end of the story. Don't make them obstacles for the characters to overcome. let them be fully complex people without treating their repulsion, lovelessness, or non-partnering identities as a flaw that needs to be fixed. Let these characters exist in a genuine and positive way that is not looked down upon or shamed.
