Anyone know what fagot tape is???

My parents gave me all the sewing things in my gran’s house as they were cleaning it out and this was included????? I’m so baffled the trim is all a very fine lawn, double fold bias tape that they decided to name fagot tape????
Tumblr media
My usual research is failing me, the only things I can find are eyelet/open weave trims, which is not what this is at all T.T someone help

Hey there! Unfortunately you don't ship to my country so I'd like to ask you ... a lot of things :') Where do you find the items you modify? (assuming thrift? Thrift forever!) Which thread do you use? Which needles? Where do you buy studs? I'm just so fascinated by your process and your items always inspire me :D
Hey thanks for the compliment! Glad to help and answer your questions.
The items I modify are mostly thrifted from local sources and sometimes Ebay has "lots" with mulitple items that I will also use. I prefer older things because they have character and I enjoy giving something that was tossed out a new life. But occasionally I do buy brand new or NOS stuff from random sources but NEVER Amazon.
Several different sellers on Etsy have provided patches as well as myself.
Studsandspikes.com has probably the best value and selection of spikes, studs and bondage rings in numerous sizes. They also have loads of stuff for DIY use, including tools. BEST price for your bulllet belts!
Tumblr media
The thread I prefer is #10 crochet thread it's about 1mm thick 100% cotton, very strong made for things like embroidery. It's also very cheap for a 400 yard ball and loads of color options. I've used liberated kitchen twine and dental floss before. Upholstery thread too.
Tumblr media
The needle is fat, lol, about 1mm thick and 60mm long. It is for upholstery, I believe. The eyelet has to be big enough for the crochet thread and the needle has to be thick enough to poke a hole big enough for the thick thread. The curved upholstery needles also work well. I don't own a sewing machine and prefer the hand stitched (whip stitch) look. I'm able to sew all kinds of material together using just this needle and thread combo. Leather, canvas, denim, plastic, cotton aren't a problem. I sometimes have to use a piece of scrap leather on the back of the needle to get it through thick/tough material. Broken a few but it wasn't easy, lol.
Hope that helped you and anyone else that was curious! I'm also glad to help a fellow human help themselves. Fuck withholding this information. 🍻

Sleeping Beauty, Briar Rose Cosplay part.1
Briar Rose from Sleeping Beauty. Cosplay making of:
Materials: (due to the camera, the color may be off a little)
Tumblr media
Skirt: Pattern from Simplicity. Front and Back can work as one pattern piece. I’m just using bed sheets for fabric. This does work well. The color of the fabric for the skirt is a purple/grey mix.
Tumblr media
I used a butterick skirt pattern for the sides of the skirt. Although it’s labeled as a skirt front, I’m using it as a skirt side. I’ll may add more to the skirt later on.
Tumblr media
A McCalls bodice pattern which I’ll sew together to make the blouse Briar Rose has. Bodice front, black and sleeves. Again, bed sheets. It’s an off-white/ sand color.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Black fabric for the bodice piece. I’ll add interfacing to it, so It’s more structured. Also, I’d like to sew on this embroidered flower motif to the bodice, so there’s more interest.
I’d like to get everything sewn than see what else to add after.

honestly yeah, fiber arts is magic. you cast spell of warm gloves, spell of nice hat, spell of stuffed animal.
material component: yarn
wand: single hooked wand or double pointed wands, depending on caster's preference
mechanical component: specific motions repeated in a particular pattern
time component: a while
look seriously the first step in a knitting recipe is "cast on", and then it's a bunch of letters and numbers incomprehensible to anyone not versed in the arcane art. that's a spellbook. yes it's a book of knitting patterns but also. it's a spell book.

Quilt update. This is split somewhere in the blues and I have to sew that together and then I have to add one more yellow row to the top. Then the quilt top is finally, finally done.

working in a factory has you thinking so much about the insane chain of labor & transport that goes into making literally anything
#like first you realize that You are making & doing things that you previously had thought - if you'd thought abt it at all - were automated#& you become incredibly aware of how all the materials you're working with came from somewhere - these plastic clips are from france; this#fabric is from india etc. and that there are people in factories there making those things and that they are also probably getting their#materials from somewhere#one of the little things that makes me think about this the most is we have these 50m rolls of cotton banding we see onto canvas & nets#and in theory it should be all one piece but sometimes it's actually two pieces which you discover when you get far enough in the roll and#find that there's a join where it's been stitched together by hand (!). which is a little annoying bc we can't use that bit so you have#to cut that but out & stitch it together again on the machine which interrupts what you were sewing before & slows you down But it's so#striking to me bc like it's really easy to look at this banding & it's so exactly the same & obviously machine made it's Really easy to#forget that there are people there running these machines. who notice there's a break & have to stop what they're doing & get a needle &#thread and stitch it together. by hand! like someone somewhere has handled exactly where I'm touching it & i don't even know where in the#world they are!#the other place this happens is often on the selvedge edge of the fabric there's writing in pencil i don't know ye meaning of but evidently#was important to the process somewhere & someone wrote that out#idk like it's really easy to watch those videos of really specific machines in factories & convince yourself that everything is automated#but the truth is the vast majority of stuff is not & is made by people doing that. & even when it is there are people running those machine#<- and i'm not saying this in a soppy way tbc. this whole system is a nightmare of exploitation & to some degree I'm just continually amaze#by how insane this whole process is & also how completely un-transparent it is unless you are made to think abt it#another thing is noticeable when you look at our orders that most of what we sell isn't to customers it's to shops who then sell to custome#which then makes you think like. those plastic clips from france are they actually made in france or are we just buying them from france?#are they actually made by underpaid people in a country the name of which is completely lost to the chain of production at this point#anyways none of this is new it's just when you are working in a factory using this stuff you start wondering like.#what's the factory like that the person who stitched this banding together like. what's their day like there#wish we could talk abt how fucked up this all is - for them especially probably - together#thoughts

Am i a 10th century baddie yet?
After four years of having my viking clothes mostly done, i've finally been made to finish them. My basics were all done back then, but this is more of a fancy summery fit that took a lot more work (especially the weaving)
Dress is based on the Vangsnes pleated dress, it's a super thin wool dyed with madder (the colour is a little uneven sadly)
Woven band is from a similar grave to vangsnes, but in Køstrup, because the vangsnes band is all swastikas
My brooches are NOT historical but just what i have rn :(
Half the beads are made by me, the other half were bought. it might be a bit much ngl but i felt very fancy

Where did Sebastian get that frilly shirt. He’s not human sized. Did he make it? Does Sebastian like frilly shirts? Did someone make it for him? What nut job researcher would go "you know what our fish man experiment needs? A cravat." Seriously. Where did it come from

I love when I see posts like "Share how many crochet WIPs you currently have! I have 5, it's so many!"
Like, girl, I have unfinished projects from over a decade ago that I refuse to frog on the off chance I decide to finish them. I've found years-old projects I forgot I even started and will impulsively just finish it on the spot. I've started three different projects in the last 2 months, including one I started yesterday, that I already know I may or may not finish within the year depending on motivation.
The number of WIPs I have is infinite.
