Thoughts on Tobias Snape/Eileen Prince and Eileen Prince/Tom Riddle Jr.?
thank you very much for the ask, anon!
i've answered eileen prince/tom riddle here - spoiler alert, i don't hugely back it.
when it comes to eileen prince/tobias snape - which also got its own shoutout from another mystery anon:
Tumblr media
now... my view on this is informed by the fact that i simply don't accept the fanon that eileen is from an elite [whether we mean socially or financially elite] pureblood family - she can't be! her marriage to a muggle man is announced in the daily prophet! what purebloods are doing that?
the only person who ever suggests she might be is harry, who does so on the basis of no evidence, in order to force a comparison between snape and voldemort as a way of soothing his furious grief over dumbledore's death.
but one of the central jokes in voldemort's background is that he is - by far - the most aristocratic character in the entire series, in both the magical and muggle worlds, but is denied access to the social cachet this brings in the muggle world because he's raised in an orphanage and never acknowledged by tom riddle sr. and in the wizarding world because he has a muggle name which means he's denied access to the lineage-based hierarchy of wizarding society, even though he's descended from slytherin. it doesn't make narrative sense, then, for snape to be in the same position - the uniqueness of voldemort's parentage is the point.
[and also the point of harry's assessment of snape at the end of half-blood prince is that it's... wrong.]
i personally think of eileen, then, as a half-blood - but a half-blood with a magical father, which gives her the name-based protection we see in canon afforded to half-bloods like harry. i can just about accept her as a pureblood from a minor pureblood family, but only if - regardless of this blood-status - she's from a aspirational-working- or lower-middle-class background, rather than raised in ancestral majesty.
[after all, we have andromeda for that.]
i also like to think of her and tobias as childhood friends, from technically the same class bracket, but from very different sub-brackets within this group - so, tobias from a destitute working-class background which was looked at with disgust by the aspirational-working-classes to which the princes belonged; exactly as is the case with her son and lily.
i like this - the idea that they were once thick as thieves, with magic the only difference between them - because the canonical series does far too little interrogation of the fact that, for all dumbledore and the order's grandstanding over the inherent goodness of the muggle world, all but one of the mixed muggle-magical relationships we see in canon fail*, all muggleborn children extract themselves totally from the world of their birth, and the two worlds are as completely segregated by the good guys as they are by the death eaters.
eileen discovering that magic - which looked so unlikely to cause an issue when she fell in love with toby aged ten - causes the man she adores to despise her and subject her to appalling violence, the son she loves to resent her, and the poverty in which she lives to continue unabated is something i think is really valuable to explore.
plus, the idea that eileen - in her son's eyes - threw away her prestigious magical education to return to a cotton-town slum and marry a poor man provides the perfect explanation for why severus snape makes many of the choices he makes in his life.
[*we hear of four muggle-magical relationships in canon: tom riddle sr. and merope gaunt, tobias and eileen, dean's parents, and seamus' parents. we all know what happened to tom and merope, tobias and eileen are canonically a violent, unhappy marriage, dean's dad leaves his mum when he’s a baby, and seamus' parents may or may not still be together. jkr has added several more in her post-series writing... almost all of which are similarly unhappy.]

heyyyy do you think you could write a James blurb where reader hangs with Severus and Lily (she's a Snape but it's not really common knowledge as she's a few years younger) and everyone thinks James likes to come around for Lily but it's actually for the reader? I love your work btw!!!
yes, of course!! and thank you ♡

snape!reader, james potter x reader
A frustrated sigh escapes Severus’ lips as you flick a petal at him for what seems like the umpteenth time that evening. You can feel the quivers in Lily’s body from where you’re laying on her lap as she laughs.
O.W.L.S. had just ended for your brother and best friend, so you dragged them down to your usual spot beneath the silver-leafed tree for a picnic. Lily was concentratedly twining vines together, crafting a daisy crown.
The light breeze caused her auburn hair to cover her face as she worked, the sun hitting her face in all the right places. She looked like some sort of heavenly wood nymph, you thought as you stared up at her. She was really really pretty.
Meanwhile, Severus was engrossed in some old, weathered-down potions book - furiously scribbling down notes for god-knows-what. Your legs were propped up on his lap as you threw the petals which occasionally fell from Lily’s flower crown at him. His expression was growing more cross by the second.
Your brother starts to grumble at you under his breath as a petal drifts straight into his nostril. A giggle bubbles out of you as he sneezes and the petal shoots out his nose, not missing the huff of annoyance he let out.
“If mother hadn’t instructed me to take care of you,” he mutters, a hint of irritation in his tone as he rubs his nose, “I would’ve tossed you into the black lake already.”
Lily grins, flicking your forehead as you bat your eyelashes at him playfully. “You love me.”
“Lies.”
“You bought me a whole bag of chocolate last weekend!”
“That was merely because-”
Your brother’s rambling comes to a halt, his eyes suddenly narrowing as he glares at something across the field of grass. His mouth twists up into a disgruntled frown.
You follow his line of vision to see none other than James Potter stumbling towards your clique, casting dirty looks at his friends behind him as they urge him towards you.
A sigh escapes you before you can even think about it. It annoyed you greatly, whenever James came crawling after you all like a desperate dog, just for the sake of Lily.
That was all it was, you tried to convince yourself. You told yourself that the acidic burning sensation of your heart in your chest was just because it was frustrating how obsessed he was, how his eyes lit up whenever they landed on Lily, how he stumbled over his words whenever he was near.
He was annoying, a stupidly beautiful wanker with an achingly gorgeous smile and eyes so bright they could rival the stars.
But you knew why you really hated him, and it frustrated you immensely. You despised him for liking Lily, hated his guts for not liking you instead. It was sickening, the way he gazed at her. And it was even more disgusting how envy took ahold of your entire being when that happened.
It gutted you, whenever you saw him looking at your best friend with heart-eyes. But it was obvious why - she was everything a guy could ever want, and she was a perfect girl for the golden boy. How could you even think about rivalling her?
What upset you the most, though, was how Lily always seemed to ignore him, looking away and rolling her eyes when his eyes met hers. You wanted to shake her, yell at her for being so ungrateful and wrack some sense into her brain. But all you did was stare quietly at the ground whenever James was near, zoning out so you didn’t have to hear the sickeningly mushy stuff which surely poured out his mouth in front of Lily.
So it was an understatement to say that your heart stopped when you heard your name coming out his mouth. You furrow your eyebrows, snapping back to the present as you press your palms down on the grass to lift your head from Lily’s lap. “What?”
James was looking at you anxiously now, with that glimmer in his eyes and a nervous smile. “Y/n, I um… I asked if you’d like to go to Hogsmeade with me? Tomorrow?”
You blink, the cogs still turning in your head. It was unfathomable, James Potter asking you out. Surely, it had to be a joke or a dare or something. Or maybe he meant to ask Lily, that was probably it. He had just asked the wrong person and was too nice to go back on his word, right?
“But you like Lily!” you blurt out immediately, a pang of hurt overwhelming you, for both you and your best friend. James’ eyebrows bunch up in puzzlement, his lips slowly twisting up into an almost comical smile. “Lily? You think I like Lily?”
You were sure you’d get whiplash from how fast you turned around to look at Lily, seeing her eyebrows bunched in confusion. “So, you don’t like me, Potter?”
He chuckles, a bit of the tension leaving his muscular frame as he shakes his head. “Redhead, you’re cool and all. But Y/n….” His gaze flicks over to you, and the affection in his eyes made you want to melt into a pool of hot mush.
Lily starts to smile, before it turns into a full-blown grin and she turns to you, nudging your elbow suggestively.
“Me?” you question slowly, suspiciously. You didn’t want to admit it, but your heart felt like it was going to burst even at the prospect of going out with him. “You like me?”
James immediately nods, turning slightly red at how long it was taking him to get an acceptance from you. But then again, he thinks he’d wait a lifetime for you to say yes, and he’d wait forever even if you said no.
Just then, you hear a loud cough on your left, and turn to see Severus glaring at you with a deadpan expression on his face.
You feel an arm bristle the hair on your head as Lily reaches over from your right, mussing up your brother’s hair. You laugh as he swats her away, tsking and cursing under his breath. “Shut up, Sev. Let my girl have her moment.”
Severus, to his credit, does shut up. Though he still has that bleary, stormy look on his face.
You turn back to James, slightly dizzy as the thought began to plant itself in your brain. The smile on his face was asking a million questions, holding a hundred insecurities. Yet you knew that there was only one right answer to them all.
“Yes,” you say softly, your lips beginning to curve upwards. Your heart was beating so loud, you were sure he could hear it.
“Yeah?” he asks, starting to grin. He lets out an exhale and scratches the back of his head, smiling at the floor before looking back at you. “Alright, then. I’ll pick you up outside the Great Hall, 5pm.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.” He beams at you, and it’s the most beautiful you’ve ever seen a person look before. “Bye, Y/n. And redhead, and Snivellus.”
James winks at you before turning around, causing your heart to jump and lodge itself in your throat. He jogs back to his group of friends waiting with wide eyes and bated breath.
A moment later, you can hear the cheers and whoops from across the field.
You turn back to Severus, afraid of what you’d find. He’s gazing at you with a terse expression on his face as you gulp anxiously.
“I’m sorry. If you’re not okay with it…”
“No. You are not going to bail out on him,” he says, the firmness in his voice catching you by surprise. “I know how long you’ve been waiting for this. And this is something you need to learn to do, getting your hands on the things you want. You’re a Snape, you always get what you want, you hear me?”
You nod helplessly.
“And if what you want is Potter,” he sneers, “Then Potter it is. Just don’t expect me to play nice.”
A small smile graces your lips. “Thank you.” You know he’d understand what you meant, all the things you were thanking him for.
You can see him start to soften, though perhaps that frown would be etched on his face permanently. He sighs, “Yes, yes. You’re welcome.”
Lily squeals and forcefully turns you towards her, gripping your hands. “This is awesome.”
“You’re just glad he doesn’t like you.”
“Am not!” she exclaims, but the mirth in her eyes betrays her.
You sigh, smiling bemusedly as you lie back down on her lap, watching her continue to craft the flower crowns. Maybe you’d give James one tomorrow, though you doubt he could look more beautiful than he already did.

Sometimes I wonder if JKR even realises she wrote Snape as a victim of sexual assault. Because he unambiguously is, and she writes him as traumatised by the incident. So it seems mad to suggest that she might not have thought through the implications of her own writing, but if she did get it, I am baffled by how sympathetic she remains to James. Harry is never really made to confront how vile his actions were, because he looks for comfort from Remus and Sirius rather than telling Hermione who would react in horror and disgust, and he gets to skip over it completely in The Prince’s Tale. JKR clearly considers James a hero, and has confirmed that in interviews. She’s even more sympathetic to Lily, who is portrayed as an absolute paragon of goodness, morality and virtue, despite her being attracted enough to James *after* he publicly commits sexual assault on a less privileged kid to marry him! What a malfunctioning moral compass. JKR also has no sympathy at all for Tom Riddle Sr, who is a victim of rape, and his rapist Merope Gaunt, who is herself strongly implied to be a victim of incestual abuse, is condemned by Dumbledore and the narrative not for what she did to Tom but for not being as courageous as nice, pretty, middle class Lily Evans because Merope committed the crime of…dying in childbirth. The only conclusions I can draw from this is that JKR is the sort of ´feminist’ who doesn’t believe men can be the victims of sexual crimes, and that deep down she thinks being a member of the underclass who can’t drag themselves out of it alone is indicative of moral failure.
This! All of this!
I don't think she puts it together at all. She's incredibly tone deaf about a lot of the abuse she puts these characters through. And with the blasé attitude she has about male victims of SA in the books definitely goes along her brand of toxic radical "feminism". It looks like she just doesn't recognise the severity of what happens to these characters. On top of Severus's attack and Tom Riddle Sr, remember that Ron was roofied with love spell that was intended for Harry, and Moaning Myrtle is incredible predatory towards the boys. Sadly, this attitude carries over from the author to a chunk of the fandom too. I've seen so much dismissiveness of the assaults against the male characters, especially Severus. And it's even more disappointing when I see people who have experienced abuse saying that what Severus endured "didn't count" as abuse. Had someone today on another platform having an absolute meltdown at me, saying that what happened in SWM wasn't sa, and that he wasn't traumatised from his abuse and if his anger was caused by trauma then why wasn't Harry the same. Seriously, you can't tell another person that what they experienced wasn't "bad enough to be abuse", that's a very warped mentality. Survivors are supposed to support each other, not belittle each other's trauma. Also, what book did they read that they think Harry doesn't have issues from the life he endured? He has different issues than Severus, yes, because he had different life experiences and everyone's reactions to trauma are different.
"Merope Riddle chose death in spite of a son who needed her, but do not judge her too harshly, Harry. She was greatly weakened by long suffering and she never had your mother's courage."
WTF is this!!!??? This is just plain victim blaming. "Your mothers' courage"? Lily had supportive, loving parents, was loved by her peers, admired by her teachers, had a very comfortable, secure life. Merope was physically and mentally abused for her whole life. They really criticized the poverty stricken, abuse victim for not being as "strong" as the Mary Sue of the Wizarding World??? Toxic as hell. Personally, as someone who has dealt with self-harm, mental illness and generational trauma in my family, this attitude of "they weren't strong enough" is nauseating and infuriating.
There really is a disturbing trend of extreme poverty equalling a dead-end life with no hope. Which is again an extremally toxic and judgmental attitude and a very dangerous message to put in a book aimed to children. The attitude towards abuse, poverty and indecent assault of men is beyond problematic, not only in the books but in far too many members of the fandom.
I could rant more but this will go on for pages.

Rumours
Tumblr media
WARNING: angst, cussing
Rumours have it that Severus Snape doesn't shower. There is nothing sexy about him. All the girls in Hogwarts want to avoid him like a plague, and the marauders painting him as an obsessive creep also does not help his case. Maybe that is why Y/n feels so wrong to feel attracted to the boy.
Every time she crosses paths with Severus she can't help but feel a sensation in her chest as he looks at her, she tries to tear her eyes away from the boy, but the intense look in Severus' eyes makes it difficult for her to look somewhere else or even think about something else.
But as fate would have it she was James Potter's cousin. Ironically, she is attracted to the boy her cousin picks on the most. She can't dare to look at him while her cousin is around. What if he finds out? If a random boy approaches her James comes between them and stares the boy until he leaves Merlin knows what he will do to Severus. Y/n hates how James treats her like a kid when she is only a year younger than him
Y/n is often lost in thought trying to figure out why she feels like this about Severus. What is it about his eyes that traps her?
One day as she walks to her class she was pulled into a broom closet. Her instant panic was replaced with relief when she found the same onyx eyes that has been haunting her thoughts all day. "What do you want?"
Her eyes flutter. Even though Severus was whispering it felt like his baritone voice shook every inch of her soul. Y/n somehow musters up the courage to speak up "what do you mean?"
Severus scoffed "don't act innocent. I see how you stare at me. What is it? You want to turn me into a clown as well, turn me into a toy like your cousin does that you can torment and torture whenever you feel like?"
Her heart broke. She knows his words were not targeted to her. Who would not snap like that after facing so much? "Say something dammit"
"I love you"
"Bullshit"
Y/n cannot blame him. For some reason she cannot find a reason to hate him. She is really trying to but there is a softness in his onyx eyes that makes her determined that there is more to Severus than just being a 'greasy haired creep'.
"You don't have to believe me, but I do love you. And I also know that you love someone else."
Severus groans "miss l/n you have no idea what you are talking about"
"I am not asking you to feel the same" Y/n says but her eyes tell a different story
After a few minutes silence Severus speaks again "you cannot feel for me like this. This is merely infatuation".
As he starts to walk away Y/n spoke up finally without any fear "You do not get to tell me how I feel Severus Tobias Snape"
Severus turns around. Feeling angry yet curious at the tone she picks on him "excuse me?"
A shiver ran down her spine yet she stood her ground "you heard me loud and clear I fucking love you Severus. Whether you like it or not and I am not letting someone take that from me. Not even you".
Severus was taken aback about the way this girl talked to him. He walks back towards her, his eyes looking at her intensely "and what if I never love you back" his voice lowers
Y/n scoffed "you don't get it do you"? Severus raised an eyebrow but she continues taking a step closer to him. Severus tries to look for disgust or anger in her eyes but all he finds is passion. She continues "Severus, my curse is not that you will never love me but my curse is living a life where I am not in love with you"
Severus feels his heart throb. No this is wrong. He clenched his fist hoping it is only because of the extra cup of coffee he had this evening but one look in her eyes....and there it was again.
A/N: Part 2? Maybe? REBLOG AND COMMENT IF YOU LIKED THIS
Without a word he turns around and leaves. Y/n stood there and watched him dissapear in the darkness unaware of the tears that were right now falling down his cold cheeks
Part 2

Enjoy!
The amount of worry she felt was like no other. Her heart stopped when she didn’t see Severus after Voldemort was defeated. She frantically searched the crowd to no avail. “Harry! Where’s Severus? Where is he?!” She shouted at the boy.
“He was in the boathouse, Nagini attacked hi-”
She didn’t even let the boy finish before she took off running to the boathouse, nearly falling down the plethora of stairs going down. Her heart was beating out of her chest, breathless as she approached the docks. She threw open the doors, the putrid metallic smell of blood hit her nose like a ton of bricks. The sight was no better, a mix of dark red and dried brown scattered around, pooling under the man’s body.
“Severus! Severus please!” She cried out as she fell to her knees in the pool, she didn’t even feel the scraping of her skin on the concrete, only focused on the man she called her husband. She looked at him as tears streamed down her face, inspecting the bite on his neck and his chest, hoping to see it rise with a breath.
Immediate relief washed over her as she watched his chest rise weakly. “Sev, open your eyes, please. I can’t do this without you, please,” She begged the man.
Slowly and weakly, his eyes fluttered open, a small smile gracing his pale lips, “Hi lovely,” He rasped.
“What do you need? How can I help you? I don’t know what to do!”
“Relax. I have antivenom in my pocket, can you grab it?”
“Which one?”
“The left.”
She frantically dug into his disgusting amount of pockets before finally feeling the vile in the last one. She shakily opened it before pouring the contents into his mouth. As he was swallowing she ripped her already torn cloak and put pressure on the still bleeding wound on his neck. She couldn’t remember the spell to heal wounds for the life of her, her brain was scattered, her heart still racing. She couldn’t hear the footsteps approaching the boathouse until the door swung open, grabbing her wand and standing in front of Severus, a spell on her tongue, anything to protect him.
A red blast wrecked the side of the door before she heard a familiar voice, “It’s Minerva and Pomona!”
“Help me! He’s bleeding and I don’t know what to do!”
Madame Pomphrey rushed into the boathouse, her wand at the ready to heal the man in front of her. Minerva was quick to take Y/N out as Madame Pomphrey did her best to heal the potions master. It was only then that she felt like she could break down, collapsing to the ground in a fit of sobs.
“I can’t lose him Minnie!”
“You won’t, Pomona knows what to do. You need to let it out, feel your emotions, talk me through it,” Minerva guided her.
“All I could smell was his blood and that’s the only thing I could see. I thought he was dead, he wasn’t breathing when I got to him but then he started after a minute. I was so scared, I am scared,” She rambled to the older professor, “Then he’s telling me that I need to relax! Who can relax when they see the love of their life knocking on death’s door? Then he’s telling me he had antivenom in his pocket and he has so many damn pockets that I couldn’t find it!”
“He’s a smart man.”
“I know that but he’s so stupid at times! Why would he meet Voldemort in the boathouse by himself?! That was so stupid!”
“He was playing his role, granted it nearly got him killed but he helped get rid of Voldemort for good.”
“You know calling your husband stupid isn’t a very nice thing, lovely,” Severus’ voice rang out. She scrambled to her feet before tripping her way to her husband, the man who was now standing at the doorway with the help of Pomona, engulfing him in a tight hug and staying there, holding the man.
“Shut up,” She whimpered into chest.
“I’m okay, the antivenom worked and Pomona healed my wounds. I’m okay,” He assured her, hugging her back just as tight.
“I thought you were gonna die.”
“Never, not when I have you to get back to. I’ll always come back to you.”
“Always?”
“Always.”

this says a lot about Snape's character development for me. There are many parallels drawn throughout the series between Harry and Snape; obviously, they're very different characters but there are similarities too.
I think here Snape is talking about himself. The teenaged Snape we see in the Pensieve is very much like this- emotional, heart on his sleeve, easily provoked, a definite wallower in sad memories... weak. Adult Snape, though he retains some of these characteristics that do emerge in stressful moments (in PoA we see how angrily he reacts to Sirius's escape, for instance) on the whole is a great deal more thoughtful, reserved, calculating, measured.
I think that Snape at some point had to force himself to become this. I think he actually relates to Harry here, and is giving him advice based on personal experience. In my fic he begins to learn to control his emotions partially out of a desire to protect Lily; he's fully aware that she's his weakness (or really, his strength, viewed a different way) and that openly displaying any sort of emotion towards her at all makes her vulnerable to the likes of Avery and Mulciber, who will have the perfect weapon to get to him if they want to.
Severus doesn't have the advantages of his peers, he's not pureblood, he wasn't born into money. If he wants to join the Death Eaters and rise in their ranks, he needs to be subtle, cunning, careful. he can't afford to be careless and entitled like mulciber or bellatrix or even sirius. what he's got to offer isn't his name or his money, it's his sheer talent and cleverness. moving on:
When Voldemort decides to go after Lily this becomes even more important. Imo the reason why Voldemort believes that Snape only "desired" Lily is because that's what Snape told him. He lied to Voldemort's face and told him something probably disgusting tbh because that's the only way Voldemort would accept it and agree, if it was a selfish, callous request that Voldemort could understand. We can see evidence of this here:
Tumblr media
Asking Voldemort to spare a mudblood because he was in love with her would likely not have gone over well- and as we know, Voldemort actually bore his request in mind, though obv didn't give enough of a fuck about Snape to follow through. Because although asking voldemort to spare her must have taken serious balls, Snape's mistake here was trusting someone inherently selfish to do something selfless for him.
Clearly he immediately realises this and goes to Dumbledore, which is when controlling his emotions becomes of paramount importance, because now he's working against perhaps the most highly accomplished legilimens of all time.
It's also interesting to me that Snape in this conversation is probably the character who is most forthright and informative with Harry in the whole of OotP until Dumbledore at the end; Harry actually learns a lot in this conversation. And Snape also kind of gives him credit which is interesting too:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like for Snape that's high praise lmao. A shame because if he wasn't so bitter (i.e. didn't wear his heart on his sleeve so much around harry) then he might have actually been pretty helpful to Harry and a decent teacher. Again, during the Occlumency lessons his unrestrained emotion brought up by memories of James is a hindrance. He defies Dumbledore's orders to teach Harry Occlumency because of his emotional response to SWM, as well as honestly doing kind of a shit job before that (by not being empathetic and teaching Harry in a way that would've been actually productive.)
At this point Dumbledore believes that Harry learning Occlumency and controlling his emotions is of vital importance; he turns out to be wrong about this. In Harry's case, it turns out to be his emotional nature that saves him- unlike Snape, who is the opposite. Snape's journey is about learning that some things are more important than his selfish need to give into his own emotions.
By DH Snape's learned this lesson fully; his old hatred for James doesn't stop him from doing what has to be done, from giving Harry the tools he needs. Even in the final moments of his life, he can look past James and see Lily in Harry- and, by giving Harry the information that leads to his self-sacrifice, he can let her go.

"Shhh"
Severus Snape x professor!slytherin!reader
Tumblr media
Chapter 1, part 1
Word counter: 1.1k
Warnings: alcohol?
Movie/book: Philosopher/Sorcerer’s stone
================================
You were excited to come back to Hogwarts for teaching History of Magic. You were excited to meet your teachers, most of all your favourite, Professor Slughorn, the Potions Master and head of the Slytherin house.
On your first day you came to sit on the table with other professors, you saw familiar faces: Professor McGonagall, Hagrid, Madam Pomfrey and others. But you didn’t see Professor Slughorn. You asked Dumbledore:
"Where’s professor Slughorn? Did he quit?"
"yes, like ten years ago, right after your graduation".
Oh, that’s really sad, you thought. "Who is the Potion Master now then?"
"Severus Snape, he is a Slytherin too. Maybe you would hear about him when you were in school, he is four years older than you, maybe there were some school rumours about him that you’ve heard of".
"I can barely remember my same-years’ names, i don’t think i would remember him even if i did hear stuff".
"Severus is a great person deep inside, he just doesn’t show it so often. I would suggest you to keep a good relationship with him. You may be going on some events together as the youngest teachers here."
You looked at the Potions Master. He had long black hair, dark eyes and pale skin. You turned back to Dumbledore. "Okay then, I’ll try."
At the lunch, you sat next to Severus. Unexpectedly, he talked to you. "So, you happen to be the new professor of History of Magic, am i right?"
"Yes, and you are professor Snape, if i’ve been told correct.". He hummed. "Dumbledore said that you are four years older than me so… you’re 31 and we happen to be the youn-"
Snape interrupted you. "well, so you’re 27. I thought you were older than me by your… appearance". You decided to not pay attention to his tease, because you’ll be working together and you didn’t wanna get in trouble.
The next day after lunch, Minerva asked all the professors to go to The Three Broomsticks to drink frozen butterbeer.
You were discussing with professor Flitwick and Snape about some work stuff, when Minerva approached you.
"Hello, would you like to go for some butterbeer on Saturday?"
You answered "Yeah, for sure, that’ll be lovely".
"Filius, Severus, what about you?".
"I’m sorry, Minerva, but I have to do a lot of grading till next week." answered Flitwick.
Severus mumbled: "Drinking butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks Inn… disgusting thing to do as a professor.."
McGonagall replied "Oh, well, taking sluts at the Knockturn Alley is definitely better".
"Shut up! Alright..".
You tried hard not to laugh, but a light giggle escaped your mouth.
On Saturday, you came to the Three Broomsticks where you found professors McGonagall, Dumbledore and Sprout. They greeted you and you joined them. You were drinking and talking about some stuff. After a hour and a half, Snape came up to your table. "Sorry for coming late, i was.. choosing what to wear." Minerva looked at Severus and laughed silently. "You’re wearing the same black suit that you wear everyday, Severus." He took a seat next to Albus and Pomona.
"Uhm so I began to say that when Minerva and me used to be young…" continued Dumbledore.
You get drunk quickly, so you got drunk from few cups of butterbeer. You began to fall asleep on the table.
"Y/N, are you okay?" Minerva asked concerned. You have already fell asleep.
"Albus, what should we do?" Dumbledore looked at you for few seconds, then said "Severus, can you please help miss Y/L/N get to her chambers? They are in the dungeon too."
Snape looked at the headmaster, happy on the inside that he could finally leave that place. "Yeah." Severus casted "Wingardium Leviosa" and lifted you in the air, going with you to the dungeon. Minerva mumbled "i tell you, someday this man will give mr. Filch trauma"
Soon you got in the dungeon, Severus unlocked the door to your chambers with the Alohomora spell and entered you bedroom. He slowly put you in your bed and covered you with a blanket, murmuring "hope you won’t remember that I have ever done this." and headed to his chambers.
In the morning, you woke up with a terrible headache, drank a glass of water and sat on your couch. You heard someone knocking on the door, and said "come in". Snape entered.
"is everything alright? Minerva asked me to check on you."
"yes, i think so. Uhm.. why are you checking on me if McGonagall could done this herself?"
Severus rolled his eyes and said "Because “I should keep a good relationship with you and be nice” and stuff."
"Got it."
"Also, in the evening Dumbledore asked you to come to his office." Snape was heading to the door.
"Why? Did something bad happen?"
He turned back to you and replied: "I’m not sure i can tell you, professor Y/L/N"
Severus left your chambers.
Later that day, you were going to Dumbledore’s office. You heard Albus, Severus and Minerva talking:
"Albus, trust me, we should ask her to help us! She is a powerful witch that could protect it!"
"I agree with professor Dumbledore. She is too young for that, we could manage it ourselves."
"Severus, right now we need any defence possible. It is stupid to say that everything will be alright if we won’t increase the Stone’s protection."
"SILENCE!" Shouted Dumbledore.
"She is here, professor." said Snape.
You entered Dumbledore’s office. "Good evening. I came a bit earlier but didn’t want to interrupt you."
Minerva smiled at you. "Hello, my dear. You should be wondering why you’re here."
"Yeah, kind of."
Albus said: "well, you already know that the third floor corridor on the right hand is out of bounds. Let me tell you now why. Did you heard about the Philosopher’s Stone?"
"Yes. Turns any metal into pure gold and produces the Elixir of Life"
"So, to protect it we have put it in a chamber guarded by six enchantments and creatures, provided by the professors at Hogwarts: Pomona's web of Devil's Snare; Winged Keys, charmed by Filius Flitwick; a life-size board of Wizard's Chess, transfigured and animated by Minerva McGonagall; professor Quirrell's mountain troll; professor Snape's potion riddle and Hagrid's massive three-headed dog, Fluffy, defending the trap door through which the chamber is accessed."
"And why would that stone suddenly need that protection?" You asked.
Minerva answered you before Dumbledore could say anything. "We are afraid that The Dark Lord wants to rise again."
"And that’s why he wants the Stone.."
"Yes."
Dumbledore said: "and we want you to help us protect it."
"Okay. I will think what i could do."
"Thank you so much, Y/N"
You left the office and headed to the library to do some research.

Which Classic Novel Should You Read Based on Your Fave Snape Pairing
Snily - Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (1847). Let's see, a low class and abused, brooding Byronic leading man? Check. Madly in love with a woman who ends up marrying a snobbish rich man who looks down on our hero? Check. Obsessed with her even decades after her death? Check, check, and check. Oh, and let's not forget that the child the woman has with her husband shares her eyes. Hm, suspicious.
Snames - Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded by Samuel Richardson (1740). So, as a fellow snames fan, let's be honest with ourselves: all of our fics can be boiled down to "I can change him." We want James to be despicable, inhuman, and cruel to Severus, and then we want James to realize how disgusting he is and grovel at Severus's feet, because we are all basic bitches. So basic that one of the earliest novels in the English language is basically this. Pamela originated this trope.
Snirius - Deep Water by Patricia Highsmith (1957). Snirius fans are unafraid of dark, toxic relationships and unhappy endings, and, well, here's a book for you! Deep Water is about as toxic as you can get. It's about a man who murders his wife's lovers.
Snucius - Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw (1913). Alright, alright, so this isn't a novel, this is a play, but fans of this pairing definitely seem to be into the whole sugar daddy/"I can turn this feral street child into an elegant gentleman" kind of vibe, and this is what this play is all about. Audrey Hepburn is fantastic in the film adaptation My Fair Lady (1964).
Snupin - Bear by Marian Engle (1976). You Canadians are probably like, "What the fuck? Is my OTP a joke to you?" The answer is yes, but that's beside the point. Hear me out. The main character is an archivist who is very bad at relationships and kind of shuns society in general. Like our Snape. She ends up in the Canadian wilderness on an assignment going through a dead person's belongings. Also, this dead person kept a pet bear that our heroine now has to take care of. Our heroine begins to yearn for something wild, our pet bear is a literal bear, but also incredibly pathetic and docile just like Lupin. Anyway, the two fuck. Literally, she fucks a bear. THIS BOOK WON THE GOVERNOR GENERAL'S LITERARY AWARD. THAT'S LIKE CANADA'S PULITZER I THINK. None of you werewolf-fuckers should act shocked and dismayed by this. We all know how you really think Sirius's prank should have gone (in which instead of James rescuing Snape, Moony makes sweet sweet love to him).
Sorry, guys, no Snarry or Snamione. I don't really read those pairings so I can't give an accurate recommendation. But if you've got thoughts, add to this!

Y/N had no idea how long she had been kept hostage by the Malfoy’s. The dungeon she was thrown in was damp and cold and had no access to any type of natural sunlight. Or any light for that matter. The small torches that had been lit the day she arrived had long since extinguished.
She didn’t assume they were planning on coming back for her any time soon. Their plan was presumably to wait for her to grow weak enough to torture for information when she was desperate enough to give it. They could wait forever and she would still not divulge the secrets of The Order. Her only hope now was to escape.
Long periods passed before she received a visitor but when they did eventually come, they came in two forms; those bringing her scraps of food, and those hungry for her body.
The first didn’t enter her cell and instead passed food through the gaps in her bars. She could attack them sure; she was feisty when she wanted to be, but how could she escape her shackles? The second were more promising. The men who visited her at night liked to get close enough to touch. But as far as she was aware they were under strict orders from Lucius Malfoy to not physically assault her; he was leaving that privilege to himself.
That is when she would strike.
Days came and went before the platinum haired man revealed himself. Impeccably well dressed, freshly manicured hands and well-kept hair, Y/N was positive he would not lower himself to molesting her here in the dungeons. He liked his home comforts.
Bound in even tighter shackles and cursed to remain powerless; Y/N had only brute strength and sheer will power to escape.
Multiple masked men escorted her through the mansion; presumably all waiting to take their turn with her after Lucius had had his fill.
His first mistake was not chaining her to the bed. While she was weak, Y/N would do just about anything to escape this prison.
Lucius locked the door upon entry; it was just the two of them now. That was his second mistake.
Slowly, carefully he started to undress, leaving his discarded clothes in a neat pile on the dresser. The sight of his naked body made her want to vomit.
Y/N lay stiff as a board in the middle of the bed, staring down her kidnapper.
“Don’t look quite so disgusted, Y/N. I’m the least of your worries tonight.”
The thought that that might be true turned Y/N’s stomach. She had seen some of the men waiting for her downstairs, even been touched by some of them, and she could say with certainty that she never wanted to be near a single one of them again.
Biding her time, Y/N played along with Lucius’ seduction, allowing him to think he was winning her over, even if just slightly.
She moaned into him when he kissed up and down her neck while secretly rolling her eyes at the same time.
She leaned into his touch when he caressed her breasts, though her attention was preoccupied by his wedding ring. It didn’t surprise her that a Death Eater was willing to cheat on his wife, but it turned her stomach just the same.
Y/N even kissed Lucius back when he stuck his tongue in her mouth, it had to be believable.
She moaned into his touch, running her still bound hands up the expanse of his bare chest, letting him think she was heading in the direction of his hard pencil-like dick.
“I knew you wouldn’t be able to resit me.” He panted at her touch.
Y/N simply moaned louder into his mouth, further deepening the kiss.
Finally, her hands reached his cock.
“Can I?” She asked, putting on her best obnoxiously horny voice. “Please.”
“Fuck yes.” Lucius permitted, moving to lay flat against the bed.
Y/N took her only opportunity to attack. Lowering her mouth down to his erect penis, Y/N took her time teasing the man with her lips. When he was finally zoned out enough, she wrapped her mouth around his shaft and bit as hard as she possibly could.
Lucius let out an agonising scream, shouting and swearing when his vision caught sight of the blood gushing from him.
Knowing she had limited time before a hoard of Death Eaters descended on the bedroom; Y/N opted for the only other exit in the room: the window.
Hands still tied and now working against the clock, Y/N descended the nearest drainpipe with the utmost caution, she was sure there would be men patrolling the grounds and she refused to fall at the last hurdle.
Her bare feet hit the stones with a thwack, but having no time to react to the pain she bolted for the gate.
The grounds were big enough that she managed to dodge the first few wizards she encountered, some of them never even having seen her at all. Others chased her for a bit, but being a lot bigger and slower than her they soon fell behind. She was almost away completely scot-free until she rounded the final corner of the house, ready to make one last mad dash for the exit.
Suddenly out of nowhere, three groups of Death Eaters descended upon her; two coming from in front, two from the left and one from behind.
Flames sprouted from each of their wands, barrelling in her direction. With no protection to defend herself, Y/N knew she was fucked.
Preparing herself for a nasty scolding, Y/N raised her arms over her face, and crouched down to avoid as many shots as she could.
The third man from behind raised his wand just as Y/N could feel the heat from the fireballs approaching. Miraculously she remained unharmed. A protection spell fell over her, deflecting the flames from her body, redirecting them in the direction of her attackers. The last thing she saw before being disappearing from the grounds, was the mysterious masked man, using his body to shield her from the single fireball that made it through his charm.
Looking around her Y/N didn’t recognise anything to decipher where she was; except for one thing. The man who saved her had quickly fell into a chair upon apparating, clutching his arm and hissing frustratedly.
“Severus.” She gasped at the sight of him. “You saved me?”
Her thoughts flooded with a million questions all at once.
How did he know I where I was? Where did he get a Death Eater mask from? Why did he save me? Is he hurt?
“Don’t sound too grateful.” He snapped in response. While he wasn’t expecting a congratulations, she could at least be a little thankful she wasn’t scolded to death. He, on the other hand, had not been so lucky. Peeling back the scorched material of his shirt, Severus revealed a smattering of burns and sores.
“You’re hurt?” She stared at him wide-eyed, finally piecing together the last few moments.
“That much is obvious. Now do you mind actually helping me?”
It wasn’t unlike for Severus to snap at Y/N but for once there didn’t seem to be as much bite to his bark.
“Of course.” She shook herself back to reality. “Could you?”
With a flick of his wand, Severus vanished the metal cuffs from around Y/N’s wrists.
Y/N hurried herself about Snape’s unfamiliar house in search for anything that might help ease his pain.
First thing on her list; whiskey.
She dropped the bottle off in front of the potions master before scurrying off to find something actually useful. Uncapping the lid and taking a swig straight from the bottle, Severus shot Y/N a thankful glance.
She brought back an armful of rags, cleansing solution and burn creams and ointments, along with a number of potions bottles she thought might help.
“Is all that really necessary?” He rolled his eyes at the sight of her.
“Do you want my help or not?” She dumped the contents on the table and folded her arms over her chest defensively.
“I wouldn’t need your help at all if I hadn’t had to save your life.”
“I didn’t ask for your help. I was doing just fine on my own.”
“That much is true. Until the quadruple fireballs came hurtling towards you, that is.” He raised a sceptical eyebrow at the witch, knowing she had nothing to throw back at him.
Begrudgingly, Y/N took her seat next to Snape, and began unravelling one of the rolls of bandages.
Snape watched the woman intently as she carefully rubbed a cold soothing cream over the rough texture of his skin, meticulously wrapping the bandages around the entirety of his arm. He loved to watch her dainty fingers at work, despite the grubbiness of her hands and the days of dirt buried under her nails, she somehow managed to still look pristine. He hated knowing a woman as pure as her had been thrown into a dungeon and forced to endure what she had. It took everything in him not to break her out the second she was imprisoned, but he knew it would have been a stupid risk to take, even for her.
Lost in his thoughts, Severus couldn’t help but let out a sharp hiss as the tight cotton rubbed against his sores.
“Careful.” He barked through gritted teeth.
“Stay still.” She warned him.
The tension in the room only grew thicker, the intensity of the man’s gaze pressured her into silence.
“How did you escape?” Severus finally asked, easing the tension. “I heard what Lucius had planned for you; I was going to get you out, but you got there first. So, how’d you do it?”
“I bit him on the dick.” Y/N admitted, blushing red, embarrassed by the implications of her confession.
To her surprise, Severus let out a loud throaty chuckle.
“That bastard deserves it too.” He laughed heartily, taking another large drink to ease the pain.
The room fell silent. The one question Y/N most wanted to ask dancing on the edge of her tongue.
“How did you know where I was?”
Severus seemed caught off guard by her query, like he hadn’t pre-planned a convincing answer for her to believe. He thought for a second, unsure whether or not the truth was the best response to give. With a huge sigh, Snape tipped his chin in the direction of his other arm, gesturing for her to pull up his remaining sleeve.
Y/N lifted his shirt, revealing a black splotch of ink covering his entire left forearm. The Dark Mark. He was one of them.
Y/N gasped, jumping from her chair, trying to put as much distance between her and the Death Eater as possible. A few bottles tipped over in the process, neither of them cared to stop them from spilling.
Severus remained seated, unmoved, despite her abrupt departure from his side.
“You’re one of them.” She gulped, her gaze darting between the mans face and his arm. “What are you going to do to me?”
“If I wanted to hurt you, Y/N, I would have let those fireballs hit you and saved myself the hassle.” He knew she wasn’t going to take it well, but he couldn’t believe she thought he wanted to hurt her.
“Then what do you want from me?”
“I want you to sit back down and please finish attending to my arm.” He begged, just wanting to be near her again.
“How can you be one of them.” She repeated, her voice barely audible.
“I’m a double agent.” Severus explained. “I spy for Dumbledore and feed information back to the Order.”
“How can I trust you anything you’re saying?”
“You don’t have to believe me, Y/N. But I risked my position to save your life because you thought it would be a smart idea to go off on your own. The least you could do is finish bandaging my arm, and then you’re free to leave if that’s what you want.”
Y/N hesitantly made her way back to her seat, not wanting to piss Severus off further. Afterall, she didn’t have much left to wrap.
“Why did you do it?” She said after a long moment’s silence, her fingers shaking this time as she held his arm.
“Do what?”
“Save my life. If it was a risk to do it, why bother? You could have left me there and no one would have been any wiser.”
“I saw you in the dungeons. I heard what they were going to do to you. I couldn’t leave you there after that. I never would have forgiven myself.”
“Why?”
Severus looked into the woman’s eyes knowingly. He had already revealed one dark secret tonight, he didn’t plan on exposing another.
Y/N quickly looked away, the sudden realisation dawning on her.
Is Severus Snape in love with me?
The look on his face said it all.
“Well, thank you, anyways.” She finished tying off the bandage. “If someone had to save me, I’m glad it was you.”
Y/N placed her hand gently on top of Severus arm.
“Just don’t make me do it again.” He placed his good hand on top of hers, his thumb rubbing the top of her hand affectionately.

The thing is, attraction and beauty are extremely subjective things in the end. For me personally, a memorable appearance with odd features is extremely attractive, in ways that a conventionally attractive appearance just isnt. Because these features stand out, they stick around in my brain and I become fond of them and fixated on them. Someone who stands out aesthetically in some way is just simply more hot to me. The perfect faces tend to kinda blur together if you see enough of them all the time. Which is why I will forever maintain that Severus Snape is the Best Boy actually, and that this is exactly why all those rich fancy beautiful people are all obsessed with him in some way. He stands out he's imperfect and that should be, in theory, ugly. But all these snooty little beautiful people are baffled because he has the audacity to attract them anyway. it confuses and scares them and so they INSIST that he must be ugly, and that what they're feeling is actually disgust (James Potter, Sirius Black) or just begrudging appreciation (Slytherin Housemates) but unfortunately for them all, they are actually hopelessly attracted to Severus Snape in ways that their feeble little minds can never fully comprehend, and it is so deep and visceral and their boners are so obnoxious and confusing that they sob themselves to sleep at night wondering what the fuck is going on, and why their gorgeous supermodel arranged marriage matches can't affect them the way Snape can. it rankles them, it scrunches their delicate sensibilities.
Severus Snape continues to exist nonetheless.
in the end, only Lucius Malfoy, as a true connoisseur of taste, was smart enough to see all this for what it is and immediately make his move to secure himself the treasure that is The Sugar Baby Sneep that everyone else was too foolish to appreciate and understand. But were the world to play out all over again 50000 times, any one of those other people could be the ones to realize it any one of those times as well. Competition for The Sneep has the potential to be a bloodbath, really. A Helen of troy situation, That Sneep.

Any head canons you're willing to share about Sarah, Snape, and co? I'm invested.
Here are some headcanons for you...
Tumblr media
Once Anya gives birth to Sarah and dies during childbirth in Azkaban, the Ministry of Magic considers leaving the child with the Dolohov family but first tries to find out who the child's father is. Severus Snape is confirmed as Sarah's father and gains custody of her.
After Snape is confirmed as Sarah's biological father, the Ministry spends a few months trying everything they can to take custody of Sarah away from Snape, believing that he could be a danger to the child due to his past as a Death Eater.
At this moment, Snape fears losing his daughter to the Ministry, but at the same time he questions whether he will be the father she deserves.
With Dumbledore's help, Snape manages to keep custody of his daughter.
From now on, Snape will do everything to protect Sarah and to prove to the Ministry that he is a good father, and would never be a risk to his daughter. Thus, he becomes very overprotective.
Snape had no idea how to raise a child, so he did what he did best, he studied. He read every book on parenting he could find and became a master at being a father.
Snape never liked children in general, Sarah was his only exception. He would do anything for her. Within limits, he didn't want to raise a spoiled brat.
When Sarah was a toddler Snape would take her to play in a park near Spinner's End, but he would keep her close at all times. If any stupid child bothered her, he would scare them away.
Snape does not use corporal punishment. He does not want to be like his father in any way. His method of discipline is time-out… Sometimes a pinch or a tug on the ear every now and then, nothing serious.
As Sarah grows up, Snape becomes increasingly anxious and stressed.
Snape expects academic excellence from Sarah, and always guides her towards the path he believes is right.
Aside from his past as a Death Eater and Sarah's mother, Snape is very honest with Sarah, he tries to tell her the truth about the world, they talk a lot about lots of different subjects.
Snape may be seen as a conservative father to many people, but the truth is that he only wants the best for his daughter, and he honestly does everything to see her happy.
When Sarah comes out to him, Snape is not surprised. But he makes sure she knows she is loved and that he will support and protect her always.
Tumblr media
Sarah's coping mechanism is to write her frustrations in her diary.
Sarah hates most of the people in her house at Hogwarts, but most specifically Pansy Parkinson. The girl is a living hell.
Sarah is a sassy girl, even to her father. But she tries to control herself around other people, because she doesn't want them to take him less seriously because of her.
Sarah knows better than to argue with her father when it comes to his rules. But that doesn't mean she'll accept them without complaint.
The main reason why Sarah is always arguing with her father is because she doesn't know anything about her mother, but also because Snape tends to keep her in a bubble at all times.
Sarah is the affectionate one of the family. She loves to hug her father all the time (when no one is looking of course).
When she was younger, Sarah liked to paint her father's nails.
Sarah lived at Hogwarts before becoming an official student, but the rule was that she couldn't leave her father's quarters without him… A rule she broke countless times.
Sarah loves toads, but Snape is disgusted by them so she could never have one. One time Sarah sneaked a toad home to test a potion on it, and the toad ended up multiplying… She was in trouble.
Ron Weasley doesn't really like Sarah because he thinks she's too much like her father. Sarah thinks he's a bit of an idiot.
Hermione also doesn't like Sarah at first, because she doesn't believe she can be trusted. But little by little they become friends.
Sarah knows that Snape has to protect Harry, and this makes her slightly jealous. She doesn't like the boy very much at first, but she always tries to help him as much as she can.
… and that's enough for today folks!

Special
just a random short angsty, sort of fluffy one-shot, Severus Snape x professor!reader
Tumblr media
i just wrote this right now because im in an angsty sort of mood, and i wanted to post something. i miss you guys, and i am now currently writing part 14 to shameless!! woo!! that break did my brain well. i feel refreshed hehe. <3 thank you for giving me some tips on how to get rid of that godforsaken writer's block, good lord. i hated it. but i'm free now, until next time ;)
this is a drabble/one-shot so it's sort of vague-ish, so yeah, if there's any mistakes or anything i'm sorry. ;(
(i also didn't put the taglist since it isn't part of the shameless fic! just in case you wondered!)
warnings: mentions of cheating
"If it makes you stop crying," Snape began hesitantly as he stared at your tear-stained face, frowning with a scrunched nose of what seemed like disgust. "We can go back to my office, and I'll make you some tea." He said, shoulders rising and falling slowly as he sighed. Watching you be so sad and cry wasn't something Snape was fond of, and it was effecting him - more than he wanted to admit. He just hoped you'd accept his request of making you some tea, then perhaps he could figure out what was making you so upset, and punish the culprits. Snape had always had a little soft-spot for you ever since you'd joined Hogwarts as a professor a year or so ago. Usually he didn't feel such a way towards younger, new professors, however, your kind and sweet aura had him unexpectedly mesmerised the moment you'd introduced yourself to him. The Potions Master wasn't exactly sure why he felt this way towards you so soon, but he knew it couldn't be good - the last time he felt something like this was back when he was a child.
You looked up, still sobbing quietly, managing to slip a confused frown upon your face. "Tea?" You repeated quietly with a sniffle, pausing for a moment to ponder on Snape's offer. "...Tea would be nice."
You hadn't expected to bump into your usually gloomy, rude colleague whilst having what you thought was going to be a private breakdown after learning that your partner had cheated on you with your best friend. Almost two years down the drain, just like that. Snape had accidentally walked in on you hunched over your desk, crying hopelessly. He was about to walk away when you'd heard a deep sigh, startling you. And here you were. Being offered tea by him.
"Let's go then." Snape said with a flat tone, looking away from your sad eyes, unable to withstand the pain that was gathering in his chest.
You were at least two or three cups of tea down when you'd finally explained everything to Snape. From the start of your relationship to the unexpected demise. It dug up old, painful memories, and you were crying again.
"What's wrong with me?" You sobbed, taking another sip of the tea that Snape had made you; hot tears soaking your cheeks and dripping into the cup. Another deep, frustrated sigh slipped from Snape again as he watched you from his desk with a sad frown upon his pale features. "I don't get it," you sniffled, gripping the handle of the tea cup with white knuckles, "did I do something wrong?"
No, you couldn't do anything wrong, Snape wanted to say. He wanted to tell you how wrong you were, and how perfectly good you truly were. But he knew you wouldn't listen, and so he kept quiet, only muttering in disagreement.
"I doubt that, Y/N." Snape mumbled, though you didn't give him much time to say anything else before you stumbled into a self-deprecating rant.
"Maybe I wasn't worth it, I mean, it's not like I'm anything... special," you laughed dryly, avoiding Snape's cold eyes, "maybe I'm just the girl that everyone dates before they find their true love. I'm the girl that they use to find the one, I don't have any good qualities, I'm a pushover, and-"
Snape inhaled sharply, "Stop it, Y/N!" He bellowed, slamming a hand down on the desk that the two of you were sat at. Instantly, you went silent, your mouth hanging open in shock as your heartbeat suddenly sped into an incredibly fast pace. You glanced up at Snape with wet and wide eyes, startled by his unusual outburst.
"Severus-"
"No, Y/N," he held up a hand, silencing you, "you're wrong about yourself. You are special." Snape sighed, moving his hand to massage his temples. You couldn't believe what was coming out of this man's mouth. "You're more than enough. Your ex was clearly a fool to do such a thing to you. In fact, I can't fathom why they would choose your friend over you." Snape said with a stern tone, clearly distressed. Your mouth still hung open as you stared at him, flabbergasted. "You're kind, sweet, considerate, and your heart is twice the size than it should be."
"I..." You uttered quietly, staring at Snape, evidently speechless. He shut his eyes momentarily, suddenly realising what he'd just said. Yet another deep sigh slipped from his heaving chest, rendering you silent.
"You..." Snape stumbled, avoiding your eyes. There was no way he could look at you right now. He'd just opened the floodgates on what he truly thought of you. He probably looks like a right blithering idiot.
The room went quiet, and the two of you sat there in what felt like a somewhat-comfortable silence, taking the moment to acknowledge what had just happened.
You stared at the man opposite you, a sudden and unusual warmth blooming in your chest. For the first time since you'd met him, you took the opportunity to truly look at him. Snape's black eyes glittered in the low, soft amber light from his candles as he reluctantly glanced up at you, pressing his lips into an awkward thin and flat line. His shoulders rose a tad, tensing as he inhaled, and he shifted his gaze to the desk again. Clearly, he was unsure on how to navigate this current moment.
A tiny smile picked at the corners of your lips as you looked at him. "Thank you." You whispered, glancing down at his splayed out hands. Taking a chance, you reached out your own hand and placed it atop of one of his, feeling it flinch. Snape's eyes darted up to yours, and he returned your smile, though it seemed a little awkward.
Snape didn't say anything to you, he only nodded gently before pulling his hand back to himself after a few long moments, clearing his throat.
"Well, since you've stopped crying," he began, sitting up straight in his chair, "we can assume I've done a good job." A little chuckle escaped you, and it caused a loose, genuine smile to erupt on Snape's face. You noticed it, but chose not to say anything, instead silently admiring how well it suited him.
"Now I know who to come to when I'm sad." You joked lightly, and as quickly as the smile had arrived on his lips, it disappeared. You laughed, feeling a tad lighter. Though the awful situation still sat within you like a dead weight, waiting to be dealt with, it felt good to smile and laugh, especially with a man you thought to be devoid of such emotions.
"I don't think-"
"Thanks, Severus." You cut him off with a bright smile, making his heart flutter. Perhaps he would wander past your classroom a little more often than before.

WARNING: MESSY TIMELINE. DOES NOT FOLLOW CANON. CURSE WORDS, INJURIES
Part 1
Her eyes were trained on him. The chaos around her starts to fade as usual when she sees him look at her. Now that he knows how she feels there is a different kind of intensity in his eyes. It is like the world around her doesn't exist. The usual noise of James and Sirius chattering dulls as she studies his face. There may be a lot of distance between them physically but the way Severus and Y/n look at each other feels more intimate than the act of intimacy.
Their spell is broken at the sound of James cackling. Y/n gulps taking deep breath. Feeling as if Severus just saw every inch of her soul, Merlin she never felt this vulnerable but it feels so good.
Y/n clenched her jaw as she saw fellow Gryffindor students pointed at Severus and giggling. "He deserves it" she looks at the source of voice. James in his true fashion looked smug, as if he truly believes what he says. Y/n looks back to find an empty spot where he was sitting she takes one last bite of her cold breakfast and gets up.
"hey where are you going?" Sirius asked with a smirk that is ever- present on his face. Y/n shrugged her shoulder "nowhere specific, the weather is lovely might as well take a walk".
Before Sirius could speak again Y/n quickly walks and rushes out of the Great Hall.
.................................
Potions is a rather difficult class for Y/n, not because she has difficulty making potions but because she often gets distracted by Severus' hands. While trying to remember how many times she has to stir the potion her eyes would wander and study how gracefully and expertly Severus chops the ingredients.
Even Y/n does not understand how she finds beauty in what the world has deemed to be ruined and damned but one glance at his face and her heart throbs at the way the sun creates shadow on his face, the way she can spot a few freckles on his nose and kiss each of them.
"....L/n"
Y/n is pulled out of her daze by Slughorn's booming voice. She tensed up as she saw him checking her potion "Hmm there is still some room for improvement but well done...you certainly have improved in your potions. Not the best like Evan's potion but well done"
"Well... as long as I am not failing," Y/n thinks. But her thoughts are interrupted again when she feels like she is being watched. She tries to ignore it but ultimately looks around the class to find Severus staring at her. The students start to murmur as they catch him staring at her, looking at Y/n in pity, already creating stories about how the disgusting monster is plotting to prey on the sweet Y/n.
....................................................
A few days passed but for Y/n it felt like the days were blending. After that conversation, Severus has not spoken to her and truthfully after her experience with other boys she did not expect much, how would you expect Severus to feel for Y/n like he feels for Lily. Maybe it is her destiny to love Severus and watch him love Lily. Maybe in the next lifetime, she will experience how it feels to be loved by Severus Snape.
Y/n's best friend Carol watched her continue loving one man who has loved only one girl and she could not take her best friend long for the man that could never be hers. "Y/n don't you get it, he is an obsessive creep he will never love you back."
Y/n sighs "Carol...you cannot control your feelings. I let him know my feelings if he doesn't reciprocate that is fate but don't tell me not to love him...I cannot do that." Her voice cracks, she does not understand how she can feel so deeply for someone so damned.
Carol declares defeat with a sigh. She feels Y/n is digging her own grave, as loving Severus Snape could only result in pain and agony. She thinks Y/n is naive, but Y/n knows Severus Snape could ruin her with just one look at her. She only wants to give him one chance to show his true side, show her who Severus Snape truly is and that day approached soon.
.......................................................
The weather has always been gloomy here in Hogwarts, it is so rare to see even a sight of the sun. Yet somehow Y/n felt unease in her chest when she saw thunder clapping outside the window, ignoring the usual chattering of her cousin and his friends until she heard "we leave immediately after dinner."
Y/n immediately turns around to face James "wait wait go where where....go why?"
James sighs dramatically, putting his hand on his chest. "Ah, my little cousin does care about me." Y/n rolls her eyes. "Don't be silly. What are you up to now?" Ever since she has known her cousin she has seen a smirk on his face and she has learned one thing- he is up to no good. His teenage boy brain always trying to find the adrenaline in low-grade pranks. "Well...we know that Snivellus is hanging around the wrong crowd like the evil git he is. We want to catch him and give him hell. He deserves it for calling Lily....mudblood"
Y/n bites her tongue. Don't say anything....don't say anything....don't say anything. "Well, what if this wrong crowd is with him, James? You know you are talking about death eaters...they are not your regular students who would back down with a simple Stupefy or something.". She is terrified, the dread in her chest only grows. Even if James can be annoying and plans to trouble Severus....he is going after something that could lead to a fate worse than death.
Sirius pats her head and it takes everything in her not to glare at him "y/nn we have been following him. We know his schedule. We will follow him to the Hogsmeade and get him... before he meets the death eater." Sirius lets out a chuckle as if this is hilarious "he will be in such a state even those guys will see what a weak boy he is."
James chimes in laughing even louder "he will piss in his pants." Y/n grits her teeth. The cackles of the boys make her shiver, she desperately looks at Remus who as always... looks away. "James please..." she interrupted their moment of joy, James looked at her, pride filling his chest as he responded, "come on then".
The marauders step out and the thundering only gets more aggressive...almost as if warning about the danger that looms over the group. With every step they take fear starts to consume her heart. Y/n cannot decide who she fears more- the marauders or the death eaters, but she has one goal clear in her head...save Severus.
......................................
The marauders stay hidden in the shadows, waiting for Snape, but they can't even spot the dungeon bat's shadow. The speed of the wind picked up as the group's eyes focused on the street leading to Hogsmeade. Y/n crossed her fingers silently, wishing Severus would not come. Then immediately, Peter spoke up, pointing towards the High Street: "We should look there."
"Wait...why do you think we should specifically look there? We will be easily spotted" Y/n pointed out, only to be shushed by her cousin. This is not good. "James, please let's go...look, even the weather is getting worse."
"Sweetheart relax...we just want to make Snivellus piss in his pants...we can deal with some death eaters" Sirius responds giving Y/n his charming toothy smile which made Y/n grit her teeth. Oh, how Sirius was wrong. As everyone ran towards the High Street, her eyes frantically looked for Severus, now a different fear started to consume Y/n. Where is Severus?
Before anyone even had a moment to take in their surroundings they were suddenly targets of spells coming out from the wands of death eaters that were approaching them. Remus and Y/n immediately take charge as Sirius and James find their bearings. As she casts Protego, Remus looks back at the two "where is Peter?" Before they can speak up one of the death eaters strikes Y/n with an Expelliarmus immediately breaking their shield "no time we have to hide".
James shrieks as he gets hit with a spell on his shoulder, making him bleed, Sirius immediately picks him up as he also strikes spells trying to keep the death eaters away.
"Crap they blocked the only way we can go back" Remus nervously looks at the 3 death eaters that were coming towards the group. Y/n whispers "lets go towards the Cemetery we'll figure a way out". Remus puts another Protego as they run away from death eaters. Adrenaline pumped through her veins as she and Remus casted spells defending themselves from the death eaters that were closing in...Peter still nowhere to be seen and as the rain starts to get heavier it became more difficult to navigate the alleyways.
Y/n yelps and stumbles as she gets hit on her leg, Remus slows down but she pushed him as she tries to run "don't stop just keep running". She winces as she tries to run. The boys run quicker than her and she realized she has a lot of ground to cover when suddenly she gets hit again that made her fall.
She picks her wand immediately to defend herself but gets hit with another spell that made her drop her wand. Y/n's heart rate spikes up as the death eaters walk closer to her. She tries to get up but her wounds make her cry in pain. As they walk closer she immediately grabs her wand again casts a stupefy and limps towards a dark alley. She looks back and groans as she saw the death eaters running after her again but as she turned around she bumped into someone. Her eyes widen as she saw the death eaters standing in front of her as soon as she raised her wand he gripped her wrist and turned her around, pulling her towards his chest. In that moment Y/n knew she was going to die. But to her surprise this death eater—quite skillfully disarms the death eaters, and casts the obliviate spell on him.
Wait his voice sounds familiar. Before she gets to wrack her brain the death eater picks her up bridal style and they vanish amongst a black cloud before the other death eaters could come to their senses.
.........................................
She feels like her head is spinning when they finally reach somewhere. Y/n looks around and it looks like a very old house . The scent of herbs oddly makes her feel safer even though right now she is in the arms of a strange death eater.
The death eater gently takes her to his bathroom and seated her on a stool. Y/n's eyes follows his move carefully. As soon he points his wand towards her she points her wand towards his.
"That is of no use you silly woman. I was able to disarm 3 very skilled death eaters in one move...what makes you think I cannot do the same to you"
Severus.
Y/n tries her best not to smile... cursing her stupid heart. After all what he said was also a bit insulting. She lowers her wand. "I think I did quite well". At that Severus furiously took his mask off. "What were you thinking coming there with those idiots...do you have any idea what would have happened to you if those bastards got their hands on you?"
Y/n huffed. Even if the sight of this man makes her heart flutter he has a mouth full of insults that makes her grind her teeth. In that moment of silence her brain has awfully reminded her that this is the first time she is talking to Severus after that day she confessed her feelings for him. As Severus casted a healing spell on her wounds one thing was clear in her head. She does not regret her words.
"Are you going to tell me what you were doing there or are you going to sit there like a statue"?
Y/n fiddled her fingers as she quietly spoke "they were planning to pull another nasty prank on you. I couldn't just sit there. I came along so that I could somehow...help you get away from them"
"Clearly, I didn't need your help," Severus growled as he looked into her eyes, which were trying their best not to shed a tear. Does he hate her that much? Y/n looks away from his eyes only to feel his cold finger under her chin, which makes her look back towards him. "Y/n...if James would have hurt me...beat me till I was unconscious I would have been able to tolerate that but...but if something would have happened to you...I would not have been able to live with myself."
Y/n gulps, her heart beats so loudly she fears it might be the only sound echoing in the house. She felt a shiver up her spine as she felt his cold finger slowly make its way from her chin to her throat "I can't help but fear what would have happened to you if I came even a second late...I cannot even begin to forgive myself for the injuries you have sustained right now".
Her pulse quickened as Severus wrapped his hand gently around her throat "you are insane if you still want to love me because this...the double life, the death eaters...this is a part of my life in such a way even if I try I will not be able to detach myself from it...if you get involved with me...you get involved with this".
"I love you....so much" Y/n's voice wavered as his thumb rubbed her throat. Severus groaned "you are so stubborn". Y/n gasped as Severus finally closed the gap between them and kissed her, chasing the taste of rain on her lips. At that moment Y/n forgot all about her pain, about how James might react, about how cold she was right now and could only focus on how Severus tastes. Despite the pain in her body, her hand flew to his hair, letting Severus in between her legs and rendering her speechless.
Severus pulls away from her lips with a wet pop and it takes her a few minutes before she can open her eyes. As she does, she looks at him fondly, her eyes not able to look away from the supposed damned boy that stood in front of her, his hand still wrapped around her throat. She can't help but let out a whimper as Severus in his baritone voice whispers a soft promise in her ear, sealing it with another passionate kiss on her lips that made her knees weak.
I love you so much...I will protect you until my last breath, love. I promise.

Jilytober Day 22
Prompt: "How long have you been standing there?" "Longer than you'd like."
Lily walked with a group of her classmates from the Greenhouse back to the castle, laughing and chatting about how exciting the start of their seventh year was shaping up to be. The air was light, the sun filtering through the high castle windows, and everything felt new and full of possibility.
But as she rounded a corner, she collided with someone—hard. When she looked up, her stomach twisted. Of all the people, it had to be him. Severus Snape. She had been pretty proud of how well she’d managed to avoid him since the start of the term. She hadn’t seen him once all summer, and it had been a relief.
“Excuse me,” she said curtly, pushing him aside in an attempt to catch up with her friends, who were already heading into the Great Hall.
"Lily, wait. I need to talk to you," Severus called after her.
She rolled her eyes, keeping her back to him. "No, you don’t. I’m going to lunch."
“So you can sit with Potter and his friends?” Severus’s voice was thick with disgust. “You spent all last year hanging around them just to get back at me. I get it, alright? You’ve proven your point. Now let’s just talk, please.”
Lily spun on her heel, glaring. “You think I spent a year making new friends and having fun just to hurt you?”
“I don’t know what deal you and Potter have, but—"
“You sound insane, Severus. You know that, right?” She took a step toward him, voice low but heated. “I actually have friends now. People who make me feel good about myself, who I enjoy spending time with. And you think all of that was just to make you jealous? Not because, oh, I don’t know, it actually benefits my life to have nice, supportive people around?”
“Lily,” he started, voice pleading. “You can’t really think Potter and Black are good people! They’re just using you.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” she snapped, feeling her blood boil.
“Just because Potter’s good at Quidditch, he thinks he can—”
“Shut up, Severus!” Her voice rang through the hallway, cutting him off. “I don’t have to listen to you whinge about this anymore. You don’t know them—especially not James. He’s kind, and generous, and funny, and—”
“And he’s got you totally fooled!” Severus interrupted, sneering.
“No, he doesn’t!” Lily fired back, her voice shaking with anger. “I like him, alright? This isn’t some trick or whatever else you’re convinced is going on. I genuinely like James Potter. And I’ve had more fun last year with him and my other friends than I’ve had in all my years at Hogwarts combined. The problem here isn’t me or James—it’s you. So go sort yourself out.”
Without waiting for his response, Lily turned on her heel and stormed away, her heart racing. She had no desire to go into the Great Hall now, not with the possibility that half the school had overheard her shouting match with Severus. Her appetite was gone.
As she retraced her steps, rounding another corner a little too quickly, she collided with someone again. This time, it wasn’t Severus.
“James!” she gasped, looking up. “How long have you been standing there?”
James gave her a lopsided grin, clearly amused. “Longer than you’d like.”
Lily groaned, face flushing as she tried to brush past him, but James gently grabbed her hand, stopping her.
“Come on,” he said softly, tugging her toward him. “We can have lunch in the kitchens. Then, when we’re alone, you can tell me to my face how much you like me. Who knows? If you’re lucky, I might even let you kiss me again.”
