People started looking at her strangely, despite her best attempts at blending in, so she'd decided the best course of action was to tail an earthling and mimic to the best of her abilities.

“But then you went inside your house so I had to wait outside for you to come out again.” She smiles, hoping it'll put the woman at ease. She's gotten much better at smiling now. Drax said she didn't look nearly as hideous as she used to. “Now that you're here, what do you people—I mean, what do we people—eat here? Everything looks so different from my home pl—country.”

needless to say, she relates. still, as depressing it is to really think about how much of herself she puts into the job on a daily basis, buffy makes it hard to keep a straight face. whether allison wants to admit it or not, she's come to appreciate the dose of playfulness the other brings to their occasional, somewhat reluctant partnership. it's a breath of fresh air. & it's much needed in places like this, where the atmosphere is heavy to say the least. " that's what you get for not sucking at this. " it's the closest thing to a compliment she's given her so far, wearing a small smile & an arched eyebrow as she gingerly touches the tip of one of buffy's stakes before handing it back to her. the mention of ice cream has her perk up a little. & the mint chocolate chip suggestion nearly makes her excited. " i could go for a scoop, " is a sentence she's never said after a hunt. but that scalding shower she's yearning for can wait. " & what exactly about me 'screams' mint chocolate chip ? " curiosity & amusement fill her voice as she starts walking to the car. " actually, let me guess. i'm not for everyone ? "

there it is again:   that familiar feeling she gets in the pit of her stomach every time diana smiles at her—   or when she says something like that,   something that seems to easy to say yet pippa wouldn’t expect it from even those she thinks she’s closest with.    she does love her friends, but when she's around diana, it's not lost on her that there's so much about her that they can't even begin to understand. it's not like pippa's trying to open up, either; having friends at all is still new to her, which is what she tries to remind herself when diana is the one making her feel so nervous yet so giddy. that's normal, right?

❝ you’re,  like,  one of the most well-liked people i know….   ❞     she points out,  her words trailing off because that's so different than anything she's ever known herself. she noticed it as soon as she met diana —  she was popular for good reason, adored because she deserved it; from where pippa's standing, she assumes diana doesn't have to fake her way through it the way she has. but the person she's gotten to know recently is still different than the person she once assumed she was, based solely off the company she keeps and her part in her friend's suffering. but pippa knows better than that; she knows not to trust the way stephen twists everything around him. she starts to smile, a soft laugh falling from her lips as she shakes her head, trying to act casual about it. ❝  i think i like you better than anyone i know, too, ❞ she realizes it in real time that her words are true, that she's never felt like this around anyone else. not her friends, not wrigley, just her. it's not just happy, it's safe. ❝  guess that means we kind of belong together, right? ❞ she asks, her tone joking yet hopeful at the same time.

Friends. About 2-3 weeks ago I went to the gas station and came across a shelf of kinda cheap toys. The most expensive thing on there was $4.99 and it was a plush keychain shaped like a pack of ramen. At the time I did not have the money but I couldn’t stop thinking about him. When I went in the other day, the toys were gone. 😭 Today I got gas and went in for a soda and a Randy Savage Slim Jim because my meager royalties arrived, and who should be by the soda machine but RAMEN-SAN!!! I ditched the slim jim and got this lil guy, who it turns out is hard as heck to find online. So YAY FOR RAMEN-SAN!!!

the glow of brooke's generosity dims a little as memories of who jenny humphrey used to be settle on her chest like a bad case of heartburn. she looks down and has no shadow of hair to shield her - her style has evolved a little since her time battling upper east side royalty. she still courts bold lip stick, but her hair is pulled back in a bright blonde ponytail on the top of her head, more golden than ice, if just for the practicalness of it (getting your hair snagged in a zipper was no joke).

a little warmth and color has crept back into her wardrobe, though she still sports her signature tights - a little worse for wear now, but more worn down from use (and some of those aforementioned snags) than as a style choice.

"i'm not sure that i would have," jenny says honestly, with a kind of vulnerability that would've earned her far worse punishment in constance than a prick from her sewing needles.

the jenny humphrey she used to be doesn't know anything about brooke's generosity, nor her kindness.

sometimes she still finds herself waiting for the knives to come out when brooke is kind to her, like it's some kind of trick. "i used to be kind of rough around the edges. but i would now," she finishes after a little inhale, managing a smile.

the certainty in the other woman's words sets malia aback a little : makes her wonder what the business this stranger might be after could be. nobody comes here for a vacation. she rocks on her feet, not quite taking a step back but not half as self - assured either. they can smell your fear. she holds her ground under the sickle moon, earthy scents rich around them and biding their time. it would not be the first time blood has been shed in these woods. her next words are measured, slow and gritted through her teeth in an attempt to remain placid. she has always struggled with her rage, can sense it in her adversary also. maybe they are more alike than different.
