By this logic... yeah. You can be phone addicted. You can be addicted to washing your hands. You can be addicted to drinking or eating too much of a thing. Not all addictions seem "so bad" because the harm isn't obvious to external people always. A person can absolutely become addicted to phone use for a variety of factors. Fearmongering is no good. Denying a facet of real life... is also no good. Phone contains ample things such as social media, gambling, pornography. These things can be what someone is addicted to by vector of phone, but that doesn't change the fact it's capable of enabling very real, very harmful addictions in people. I haven't smoked in years, but I'm definitely still addicted and definitely still want to each and every day. Addict isn't a dirty word and we can't take steps to combat problems if we lie about it on both sides or downplay it.

Just saw Paul live. I travelled to Paris with a concussion and a black eye, and then my new 900$ phone got stolen and I don't know a word of French and I had to email my bank to cancel my credit card so the thief wouldn't be able to pay with my phone. I have like 30 quid in my wallet, I didn't even have the ticket to the concert because it was digital, I didn't know how to get to the arena or to my Air BnB (where my laptop was – without wifi). I had nothing but a dream, one might say.
