Exactly!! Also if you're autistic and claim that it's because of sensory issues that you need to shave, I don't think that's the real reason too. As also an autistic woman who was forced to shaved since puberty (like around 10 y/o). It's mostly because you don't know how it feels/looks to have an adult human body. And as we are creatures of habit, who hate change, it's more likely that it's the reason. Especially if we have been trained to do so since early ages. I hated it, it hurt so much at every step of the way, and all the process of removing the hair is WAY more intrusive and sensory harmful than doing nothing and learning to see/feels how our body is meant to be. There is NO WAY that having to putt a cream with a weird texture, to let it sit for minutes, then to Scrape your skin with it, to feel the texture of the dead skin ripped off, the dead hair mixt with the weird cream is something that you seek because it's feels amazing to do so. I've got nausea just trying to describe the process. And this is the less painful option! But it is painful for us autistic person because of our sensory issues. All the other options consist in ripping off your hair, which are tight to our nervous system, EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. THEM. is tight to our nervous system. It's like torture. And we already have a different, way more sensitive nervous system. So it literally triggers our brain into meltdown/shutdown because it's perceived as a threat for us, as our brains is more reactive to it. Like there's NO WAY that you're a seeking all of this because it's an amazing feeling! NO WAY ! So I can understand that's it's difficult for you to change your habit, it's difficult for everyone to do so but it's harder for autistic people.

Why aren't autistic men removing their body hair? Why don't they complain about these same sensory issues?
It's not that I don't believe you, I just need you to understand that it is the removal process (shaving/waxing) that is the source of the discomfort. It changes the tip of the hair, and makes it feel coarse on skin. Many women started removing their body hair when they were very young, so they don't know any different and believe that body hair is inherently uncomfortable.
It doesn't make sense for body hair to inherently be uncomfortable, and somehow only to women. Men AND WOMEN!!! have grown body hair since forever, and removing it is a recent phenomenon. There is no documentation of it bothering people before then.

These were made to be reaction images, but it was taking too long to format them properly, so I figure I’ll just post them like this and post them again if I ever do get them formatted.
I am… quite closely acquainted with some of these.

Funny things that happen to me at work
The cook asked me to taste the mashed potatoes to see if it was too salty
"I don't eat mashed potatoes"
I say with an apologetic smile
"You don't eat mashed potatoes?"
She inquires with a flat tone and a bewildered expression
"I don't"
I reiterate
She looks at me
Looks at the six year old autistic kid to whom I'm a therapist
Looks back at me
Looks at my plate of carrot rice and fried fish, the skin separated from the meat at the furthest corner of the plate away from the rest of the food
Looks back at me
Back to the kid
Clearly remembering that I also don't eat any kind of spaghetti
Walks away with a face that says "I'm connecting the dots"

i hate people who judge people on their fashion sense and what they're wearing so much.
i wish i could dress the way i want to but my sensory issues dont allow me to.
i've seen other autistic and disabled people judge others for their clothes and it just confuses me
there are many reasons why someone cant wear "fashionable" clothes, sometimes my outfits have to be ugly so i am not constantly having a meltdown, please be more understanding of people like this

Is it weird that I find the smell of old books really horrible? Everyone seems to romanticise the smell. But I’m reading an old book right now and I feel like I can hardly breathe…

Wearing gloves has been such a game changer for me, I never would have guessed.
We had to wear gloves at the factory I worked in, for security reasons - and I found out that I really liked it. Instead of touching 100 different textures in a single day you only come in contact with one - your gloves !
In retail, it's the same thing- gloves aren't mandatory at all, but I wear them all day just because it feels better to not feel anything. And it protects my fingers from the cold, splinters, or expired food, which is a neat bonus.
Now considering buying some stylish gloves to wear all day, at home. When cleaning, or even cooking (dry wooden spoons are sensory hell and can go die in a fire), idk I just feel like I unlocked a cheat code.
I understand some people might hate the feeling of fabric/security gloves but it's been a nice experience for me, and I encourage you to try it some time :D

Anytime someone tries to tell me that people with sensory issues just need to get over it, I remember being in my late teens and trying to exposure therapy myself through being touched by wet hands. It was horrible sensory wise, but my older sibling often used touching me with wet hands as a way to annoy me. So I just tried so hard not to react in any way as they put their horrible wet hand on my arm. Within less than half a minute of this, I, a grown adult or close to one, ended up biting my sibling.
I physically can not get over my sensory icks, and I will resort to violence if forced to experience it. (On the plus side, my sibling stopped doing that to me shortly afterward)

Idk if anyone else with sensory issues finds the microscopic Things in their bed super aggravating/overwhelming when trying to sleep or just exist, but just going over the sheets with a (sticky) lint roller before you sleep seems to do wonders!
