my intentional morning routine:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-I wake up around 6 AM, instead of immediately getting on my phone like I used to. I lay in bed for a couple of minutes, allowing my body to realize the transition it is making.
-After that, I immediately drink a full bottle of water. This is pretty easy for me because when I wake up, I’m usually dehydrated even if I don’t realize it yet my body does. I’m able to do this quickly and easily by grabbing a water bottle the night before. By the time I wake up it’s usually warm, warm/hot liquids are actually very beneficial to your digestive system. This helps my digestive system get a head start on the day.
-I move onto making my bed. A step I never used to incorporate because I always felt it was unnecessary but once my bed is made I rarely want to ruin the work I’ve created which urges me to not get back in it.
-Tea. I always drink some type of tea in the morning, my go-tos being ginger or green. This is another thing that I do for my digestive system as well as overall calmness. Instead of doing another task while having my tea, I like to enjoy it and simply take gratitude in the drink.
-I then go into breath work, I do a Nadi Shodhana technique of alternate nostril breathing, as someone with severe anxiety breathing has become a big part of my journey in managing it. Even if I’m not feeling anxious I love to get a head start on it (something I learned from my therapist). I tend to do this practice for a few minutes and find my body in a completely calm state afterward.
The Technique:
*Sit in a comfortable position for me this is usually with my legs crossed.
*Place your ring finger on your left nostril and your thumb on the right.
*Cover your right nostril and breathe in through your left, cover your left nostril and exhale through your right nostril and repeat.
*When you are finally done with this practice exhale fully out of your left nostril.
-The next thing I like to do is engage in prayer and gratitude. I have created a specific prayer that I repeat every morning, although it changes when needed. I simply express gratitude by writing out everything that I am thankful for in that moment in my journal.
-I then move onto hygiene and breakfast which I’ll usually have a smoothie or oatmeal if I’m not fasting.
And that’s my intentional morning routine!

I’ve been drinking salt and electrolyte water every morning for the past few weeks and have seen such a difference with focus, mood & skin. 💧🧂🤍
Celtic sea salt is packed with electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium and helps reverse aging, alkalize body, improve digestion, balance blood sugar, detox body, skin health etc

- drinking more water
i’ve been doing really good in this area actually! i have been drinking at least one of my stanley cups of water a day (i have the 40oz). definetly going to the bathroom more but it doesn’t bother me especially bc its for the better of my health.
- start exercising more often
out of all the areas im ngl this the one i have been lacking in bc im trying to figure out what plan to go w regarding my gym thts closest to me but most likely going to end up signing up mid may.
- affirming & manifesting
i have been affirming & setting my manifestation intentions daily. saying out loud as often as i can as well as writing it down in my journal specifically for manifestation etc.
- trying out new baking recipes
made some cupcakes the other day! definitely want to perfect that and tweak it to make it perfect!
- becoming more disciplined
this was one of the main things i wanted to practice bc i knew it would have such a major impact in all areas of my life. i been doing really good in regards to this. getting up everyday and not going om my phone first thing and sticking to tht. journaling everyday and sticking to it. eating out less. basically everything tbh. super proud of my progress in this area
- build my savings more
been doing sooo good here too ! learning to not take out of my savings and if i really want something i need to wait and save for it. another place where discipline comes in
- start actually getting ready for the day
im ngl i have been lacking in this area a little but thats okay! i go to work about 3-4 times a week and im getting ready for tht so progress is progress.
- journaling
literally amaze. been journaling everyday consistently and i lovee. something about waking up, taking a big gulp of water, and opening your curtains to let the sun in while you journal. like it just puts me in a good and fresh mood. ready to start the day. aware of my goals for tht day and such. also lets my brain ease into waking up instead of going straight on my phone and waking it up w/ whatever nonsense social media has going on.
[feel completely free to join in with me in this challenge and even add some things of your own! its totally customizable. I will be checking in on here periodically to tell you guys my progress as well as the things I've done to help me get to my goals]
xoxo

☞ The Pressure to Conform
🪷 Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the pressure to conform to a hyper-sexualized image, one that’s both celebrated and critiqued. As Black women, where our feeds are flooded with images of glamour, wealth, and a very specific type of aesthetic appeal, it’s easy to feel like you’re falling short if you can’t keep up. The portrayal of Black femininity through the lens of artists like Megan, Ice Spice, Sexyy Red, and Rubi Rose offers a powerful narrative of control and confidence, but when these portrayals become the standard against which all Black women are measured, it’s problematic. This isn’t about diminishing the achievements or creative expressions of these artists; rather, it’s about recognizing the complexity of their impact.
☞ Influence of Media on Perceptions
🪷 This generation of Black men, influenced by the images they consume in media, sometimes unknowingly perpetuate these standards, equating a Black woman’s worth with her ability to fit into this hyper-sexualized mold. It’s crucial to recognize that this perspective is deeply flawed. Our value isn’t defined by our sexuality or our willingness to conform to these standards. It’s defined by our character, our intelligence, our kindness, and our contributions to society.
☞ The Exhaustion of Unrealistic Standards
🪷 It’s exhausting, really. The constant bombardment of these images can make it feel like our worth is contingent upon our appearance and how closely it aligns with the glamorized, sexualized portrayal of Black femininity in the music industry. But let’s set the record straight: our worth is intrinsic, not something to be measured against a fabricated standard designed for entertainment and male gaze gratification.
☞ Rejecting Unrealistic Expectations
🪷 Here’s your sign to reject these unrealistic expectations. Embrace your individuality, your talents, and your dreams. Remember, the confidence and self-assuredness displayed by artists like Megan, Ice Spice, and Sexyy Red can be channeled in myriad ways, not just through sexuality. Their underlying message of empowerment is about owning your identity, speaking your truth, and living unapologetically—let that be the takeaway.
☞ Celebrating Diverse Black Womanhood
🪷 It’s time we shift the narrative. Let’s celebrate the diversity of Black womanhood, which encompasses far more than what’s seen in music videos and on social media. Our beauty, intelligence, and worth extend beyond the confines of the hyper-sexualized standards set forth by any industry. We are scholars, creators, leaders, and so much more.
☞ Building a Supportive Community of Black Women
🪷 So here’s to us, to embracing our full selves with grace and power. To knowing that our worth is immeasurable, our beauty is diverse, and our potential is limitless. Let’s navigate this world with the confidence of knowing who we are, rooted in the richness of our heritage, and unfazed by the fleeting trends of societal approval. Your light is needed, just as you are.
🪷 It's time for us to reclaim our narrative and celebrate our diverse and intrinsic worth. Let's challenge and dismantle the hyper-sexualized standards that have been imposed on us and embrace the full spectrum of our identities. Share this message with your friends, engage in conversations that uplift and empower, and use your platforms to highlight the true beauty and strength of Black womanhood. Together, we can create a supportive community that honors and respects our individuality. Your voice matters—let it be heard.
