No, not kids! I mean these curtain dealies. I still need to set up, what, like another five of these rigs? God dammit.
Six sub-Acts, then - and the first ended the same way Act 1 did, with a seemingly-fatal explosion at the Egbert/Crocker household.

Sounds to me like these six sub-Acts will be 'remixes' of Acts 1 through 6, with events that 'rhyme' with the B1 session. I doubt we'll be rehashing everything, but I think I can make a couple of educated guesses about the path we'll be treading.

Act 6.1, as we've just seen, was dedicated mostly to wacky shenanigans in our protagonist's home, as well as hints of intrigue surrounding their friends. It ended with our hero in mortal peril - although everyone knows they're not really in any danger. The story just got started, after all!

Act 6.2 will probably be similar, but I expect to see Roxy and Dirk take to the stage with their official introductions. It may also introduce Jane's Exile, which had better be a Problem Sleuth character at this point.

By Act 6.3, most of our heroes are entering the Medium, and we've come to understand their lives a little better. We might finally begin to get a sense of the Guardians' personalities - and if we're lucky, the Earth's First Guardian might finally show its face.

Act 6.4 is when things will go horribly, horribly wrong, as powerful antagonists finally emerge from the woodwork to wreak havoc on the session. It might be Jack, again - but it could just as easily be the Condesce, or Lord English himself. The session, at this point, seems almost unsalvageable.

If we're really lucky, Act 6.5 will bifurcate again, and we'll start with a remixed version of Hivebent - this time, with the pre-Scratch trolls, explaining what really went wrong with their session. Then, 6.5.2 will compose the meat of the B2 session, as the kids rally, and try to salvage this new mess.
Scratching isn't an option this time - or, at least, I don't think it is - so I'm not sure what'll happen here. I definitely expect to see some God Tier ascensions, and I'm sure the B2 kids will have some crackpot solution for whatever's tearing their session apart.

Finally, we come to the end of our story - Act 6.6, where the callbacks begin to get recursive. I have no idea what the shape of this Act is going to be - except that it'll undoubtedly involve kids and trolls from at least four timelines finally coming together to end the English problem once and for all.
And that, ladies and gaydies, is my big-picture prediction for the rest of Homestuck. As always, I'm sure a good chunk of this speculation is way off-base - but I am confident that, broadly speaking, the next six Acts will be reflections of the previous six. I'm here for it!

- will try his best to make your day better during band practice by messing up on purpose just to see you laugh

Completion Event Report①
Even at this point, I'm not really sure what the appropriate English translation of this event's name is. 😅 However, I decided to call it the Completion Event, including the trial game, because it seemed the simplest.
I attended the Completion Event on April 13! I have a lot to report, so I'm thinking of writing it in several articles. First, I'll share some photos of the exhibits at the venue. Let's start with a photo of the entrance area:

I've shown you the photos without any explanation, but I wanted to add that I felt super rushed when I took them. The reason is that I was given a questionnaire before entering and asked to write down my impressions and any questions I had for the development staff. I had to fill it out and submit it before the demo event (trial session) started. But there were just so many things I wanted to take pictures of that my brain was practically exploding—I kept thinking, “Ughhh, I want to take my time and look at everything more slowly! 🤯” lol.
It was a good opportunity to check the details of the design of each character's costume, so I wish I could have checked it more carefully. 🥲 (I've posted two close-ups of Yugamu's Class Weapon. I wanted to see how his weapon was really designed, so it was good to see it up close.)
When the event was over, each attendee was able to receive the following gifts:

I received a folder featuring the game's box art, an acrylic stand for School Invaders, stickers for SIREI and NIGOU, and a TooKyoGames sticker. (The item in the bottom right is a name tag they gave to participants, and they kindly let me take it home as well.)

The acrylic stands were the same as those distributed at TGS, but it seems there are quite a few different types, and the ones in the photo posted by another attendee were different. When I looked at it up close, I was surprised to see how detailed it was, with a dirty texture and all, and it was even cooler than I'd imagined, so I'm glad I got some!
In the next article, I would like to write about what the guests said on stage at the Completion Event. I'm going to skip the content that has already been introduced by the official media, but still, I think it will take a little time to prepare. Please be patient!

You had always admired Kayn.
Even when he is hot headed, when he lacks in confidence, you were, and always will be, there.
It all started when the two of you were in grade school. Kayn was often getting into little tiffs on the playground, and you made it a personal challenge to engage with him and try to make him a little happier.
"Hey, Kayn, right? It's good to meetcha. I was wondering if you wanted to play tag with me?" You had said, twiddling your thumbs and smiling shyly at him.
The little boy glared at you for a moment. Right as you were about to lose hope and turn away, it appeared something had switched in his brain.
"Sure, but no cheating!"
From that day forward, the two of you were like peas in a pod. Kayn was everchanging, as were you.
Eventually, Kayn developed some kind of alter ego he called Rhaast. You didn't really understand it. All you knew was that when he switched, someone was going to get hurt or something was going to happen.
Kayn was never really a sensitive or open person in a traditional sense. The two of you had off and on flings throughout middle and high school, until Kayn got into the band and party scene. You never gave up on your friendship, though.
There had been a few bands before the most recent. You went to all of their shows, accompanied him when he went to his little (mostly unsuccessful) meet and greets.
He was always so protective of you. If there was ever someone who was coming onto you or making you feel uncomfortable at a show, he would literally get off stage in the middle of a set and teach the person a lesson. You couldn't help but admire the way his dark pink hair brushed across his face as he prowled over to you to face the culprit. It made you blush, thinking of how he handled these situations.
One day, after a busy day at work, you got home to see Kayn sitting on the couch at your apartment looking wholly defeated.
"Oh, I wasn't expecting to see you here," you had said, your brow furrowed as you approached him. "Whatcha up to?"
"I don't want to talk," was all he said as you sat next to him. It was hard to accept that as an answer, so you pushed him just enough to get a reason.
"Well, you're sitting on my couch looking really upset. What happened?"
"I said I don't want to-," he looked at you swiftly, his nostrils flared and eyes angry. You knew Rhaast was close to the surface, but you held strong because you knew Kayn liked it when you stood up for yourself, even to him. He sighed when he saw the determined look in your eye. "Fine, I got kicked out of the band."
"Oh!" You exclaimed, shocked because it seemed like everything had been going really well for him and who you thought were his friends. They had done a couple shows, mostly just hanging out and jamming together. "What happened, Shadow?" He sighed again, a tad bit more dramatically, when you used his nickname. You had called him that ever since middle school when you would find him sulking in dark places like a weirdo.
"Well, apparently the guys don't like pranks. It was out of character for me to pull one, sure, but I didn't think a little 'poop on fire at your door' gag would piss them off so much. Whatever, I don't need them."
You tried and failed to hold back a laugh at his admitted fault. He looked back at you with his mismatched eyes and his lips quirked upward ever so slightly.
"Oh, Kayn, I'm so sorry. I don't mean to laugh but that is honestly really funny! I thought you all were chill; I'm surprised a stupid prank like that got them so riled up." Without realizing it, you reached up to adjust a piece of his hair that had fallen in front of his eyes while you let out another soft chuckle. You quickly snatched your hand away, mouth closing and eyes widening.
Kayn looked at you with a shocked expression for a moment, before he did something that made your heart race just like all the times previously when you two had dated. He leaned in and kissed you gently on the lips.
"Thank you, Y/N, for making me realize how funny I truly am," he smirked, clearly trying to adjust the topic from the kiss that had just happened.
That day, things had been different between the two of you. You weren't sure if it was because it was the first time the two of you had kissed in your adulthood, or if it was because you realized he chose your place to go to when he was feeling down.
It made you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Your usual hangouts had turned into you stumbling over your words, blushing when he did anything remotely attractive, and overall, just a little more awkward.
It didn't take long for Kayn to find a new band, after that. You were excited to meet all of his new bandmates; Ezreal, Sett, Aphelios, Yone, and K'Sante. They were all sweethearts, and you couldn't help but think that this might be the band.
They named their band Heartsteel, and you were awestruck at how popular they became and how quickly. With that, of course, came consequences.
Every show, event, even just strolling through stores together, there were paparazzi and fans jumping all over Kayn. Inevitably, this drove a wedge between the two of you. He became so busy all of the time, and it was hard to find a moment for the two of you to see each other.
Back to present, you are working your usual nine to five office job. It's boring, but it pays the bills. You get to see all the fancy magazine articles and covers that Kayn and his band are in. You get to hear all of the stupid annoying girls at your office giggle and talk about how hot they all are.
You huff when one of them walks by your desk, joking about how she'd "do anything to get into Kayn's bed".
I bet you would. You thought. Unbeknownst to her, you had been in Kayn's bed, more than once in fact. Never daring to say anything about your relation to him in fear of being shut down or gaining too much attention, you just did your best to ignore it all.
The day was finally reaching its end when your phone vibrated in your purse. You opened it to see a text from Yone.
Hey, Y/N. It's Yone.
Oh, hey Yone. What's up?
Kayn is having some sort of... well, he's really upset right now, and he just keeps asking to see you. He doesn't sound like himself. Can I come get you and bring you over here?
You raise a brow at the message on your screen. It had been at least a month since the last time the two of you had spoken, as it was like pulling teeth to get Kayn to answer a text or a phone call in the first place, let alone now.
Don't worry about picking me up, I'll head over there now.
You quickly gathered your belongings and let your boss know you were heading out ten minutes early. Bidding your farewells, you left the building and climbed into your car. You took your heels off, adjusting your skirt so that your ass didn't stick to the leather as you flung your purse into the passenger seat.
A million thoughts raced through your mind, but one thing you were certain of. When you got there, that wasn't going to be Kayn.
It was going to be Rhaast.
The drive was about an hour, and when you pulled through the iron gates after inputting your code, Yone and Aphelios were waiting outside looking at their phones.
You put your car in park, put your shoes back on and quickly got out and speed-walked up to them.
"Hey guys, sorry it took me so lo-."
"No time for small talk, let's go," Yone all but dragged you through the door of the house they shared, leading you down a long hallway to the small practice and recording studio they put in. He didn't release your elbow until the two of you were standing right in front of the door, and he turned to look at you.
"I hate to say it but, be careful. He's acting a little...," Yone trailed off, as if trying to find a way to describe it.
"Manic? Crazy? Off the rails? Yeah, don't worry, I got this," You smiled politely at him, pushing him softly out of the way and opening the door to the room.
Contrary to your feigned confidence, your heart was beating out of your chest. What you saw when you entered had it racing even more.
Kayn was standing against the wall with no shirt, his arms crossed, smoking a cigarette. When he looked up and caught your gaze, his mouth turned up in a devilish grin. You hadn't realized it, but your mouth was dangling open as you ogled him.
His hair was damp from sweat, his muscles rigid as he stared back at you.
"Y/N, finally, you're here!" He greeted you, pushing himself off the wall and walking your direction after pinching the cherry off his smoke. Contrary to what you were thinking was going to happen, he walked past you and shut the door.
You blinked in shock when you heard the click of a lock.
"What's going on, Kayn?" your voice trembled as you asked, but you squared your shoulders and raised your chin none the less.
"Tsk tsk tsk, is that how you greet your best friend?" He murmurs, coming up behind you and wrapping his large arms around you. "I've missed you, Y/N."
You shuddered in his grasp before looking around the room with a sigh. "Is that why you trashed the studio? Because you missed me?"
He nuzzled his face into your neck and breathed in deeply, causing goosebumps to raise all over.
"Yes," he stated plainly. You weren't even surprised in his nonchalance about it. "Everything has been so overwhelming, lately. It doesn't take much for me to snap anymore, but when I see you all of those problems seem to melt away...". You were surprised, however, at how open he was being as soon as you got there. Kayn was never one to open up without a fight first. Perhaps the fight had already happened within himself.
You turned around in his arms to face him, looking up at him with a weak smile.
"I've missed you too, Shadow. I've got to admit, I don't like all the attention you're getting from girls either," you sigh. The vulnerability he approached you with must have been rubbing off. You didn't mind though. It was time for you to tell him how you really feel. "Kayn, I- I want to be-".
"Can you just be mine, already?" He interrupts, his eyes locked to yours. "I want you. I want every part of you. Nothing... Nothing feels right when you're not with me. The girls, the shows, none of it. So can you please please be mine?"
"I always have been, Shadow. And I always will be," leaning up, you place a kiss on his mouth. Retreating, you only get a moment before he slams his lips back onto your own, and you let out a little moan in acceptance.
"Always." He growls against your lips, and you know for once in all the time you've been his number one fan, that this time is forever.

Please, speak more about traumatic age regression in Armand and Lestat- I would LOVE to hear other peoples thoughts on this, because its a theory/interpretation I've also been batting around
thank u for the ask omg!! I would love to talk about this!
In the books especially Armand and lestat show like, text book age regression haha. They both are shown to be below the standard of functionality for both their mortal and their immortal ages, and both struggle with emotional regulation in a way that is explicitly childlike.
Btw for clarities sake, when I say traumatic age regression btw I’m referring to age regression that is triggered involuntarily as a trauma response, when a person will slip into a childlike mindset or behavior due to how their brain functions after trauma. I’m not referring to age regression as an intentional coping mechanism to deal with trauma (though i do think both these characters would benefit from this and I would like to see it explored, I’m just making the case that the former occurs in canon haha)
Starting with Armand, he is often described as having been stunted in growth in a way which causes him to be unable to behave or function as an adult, since he was turned into a vampire as a teenager. This is such a huge deal with him, to the point where Marius literally tells people Armand should have never been a vampire because of how “damaged” he is. This conceptually is like inherently age regression lol, he’s an emotionally stunted 500 yr old vampire who behaves like a child because his brain got messed up. But this isn’t really the case at all with other child vampire characters. Claudia is not the most stable adult, but she’s certainly not immature or childlike in her behavior the way Armand is. While Armand is unable to live independently for the majority of the book series because he panics and short circuits when he is put in a position where he needs to be self reliant, Claudia only needs to have a caregiver because she will be restricted from entering certain spaces and will have trouble navigating the world without an adult since she appears as a five year old.
And characters like Benji are completely stable and functional as adults, and their minds are unaffected by being stuck in the bodies of children. It seems to me that Armand’s stunted growth has more to do with the trauma he’s experienced than the age he was turned (tho it is likely a factor). Armand has a very intense case of identity fracturing during his crucial development, so he can’t remember most of his life and formative memories, and mental health problems like these often cause age regression to come up. Armand was prevented from ever going through the crucial developmental stages a child needs to become a stable adult bcus of the trauma he was out through, so it makes sense that as an adult he still behaves and thinks like a child.
A lot of times adults who experienced intense childhood trauma are forced to be very mature as children to protect themselves, and when they are adults and are no longer in danger the childishness they repressed in childhood presents itself in adulthood, and the adult tries to learn and explore what they lost out on in childhood. I think Armand is experiencing a form of this, which is a form of age regression. An example of this would be how in queen of the damned Armand acts very childish, because as he describes it, he’s “learning about the modern world”, and he’s rediscovering his childhood curiosity bcus he never was able to truly learn about the world and learn how to live as an adult in it during his formative years. The devils minion chapter is very age regressy to me, I mean the whole thing is about Armand experiencing new things and sensory experiences and and trying to learn life lessons from Daniel because he’s never had that before. Daniel gets to see Armand’s mask unveil and discovers that he has a boyish laugh and he likes dumb comedy movies, and blenders, and he has a childlike wonder and desire to explore. (Cough cough age regression). Daniel is able to bring out Armand’s age regression in a positive way by nurturing his inner child in a way no one has before. So Armand definitely I feel like age regresses when he’s happy and letting himself indulge in things that heal a part of his inner child (particularly around someone he trusts, Daniel) but he also definitely age regresses when his trauma is triggered (oof)
Armand goes through mood swings and drastic changes in behavior pretty often. He is usually very good at appearing put together and mature, he speaks very calmly and rationally, he’s socially skilled and charming. But Armand has moments that happen when he is very upset usually, where his mask breaks and he suddenly begins acting like a child, crying and screaming, breaking things, throwing tantrums, stuff like that. It seems like Armand age regresses when he’s in some way triggered or experiencing very strong emotions. I think that his most evil, insane moments r often influenced by age regression. For example, Armand’s behavior in the vampire Lestat comes off as age regression to me. Lestat’s appearance in Armand’s life uproots his sense of security and sense of purpose (and reminds him of his maker), so Armand begins throwing violent tantrums and destroying all of his things and going to nicki’s house and throwing a fit and making his house a mess. Armand has no calculated idea of revenge against lestat for a perceived wrong, he just feels helpless and starts acting out in childlike ways (age regression). It’s even little things. When Armand begins revealing his past to Lestat he holds his arms and appears helpless and lost. When Armand is his most helpless his instinct is to curl into himself in defeat. He almost forgets how powerful he is and reverts to helpless frightened child.
The age regression angle definitely applies to show Armand too. Show Armand wasn’t even turned as a child, so all of his regressive behavior is rooted in regression exclusively. I get the impression that amc Armand, because of his isolated upbringing where he was raised to be obedient and reliant before he was raised to be a person, causes him to age regress since he was never raised to be an indecent adult. Amc Armand age regresses most often by perceiving himself as much more helpless and constantly victimized than he is, and acting accordingly. He’s like a big dog that thinks it’s a puppy so it sits on its owner lap and crushes their bones 😭. I could elaborate on amc Armand age regressing for sure, but I don’t want to make this post all Armand lmaooo. A post for another day
NOW LESTAT LOL! Lestat absolutely age regresses in the books, in a similar way to Armand where it is almost explicitly acknowledged lmao. The biggest example I think of when I think of lestat age regressing is a small scene in the vampire Lestat, where after almost getting himself killed when he plays the violin for akasha, Marius saves lestat and berates him for being stupid, and instead of taking on his usual defensive cockiness Lestat breaks down in hysterical tears and begs Marius to forgive him. It’s incredibly childish in a way that’s kind of heartbreaking, he’s saying stuff like “i didn’t mean to, please don’t be mad”, and it’s such an abused child reaction. Lestat most often age regresses when he is in the presence of someone he perceives as a mentor/parental figure. Lestat was turned young, not as young as Armand but young enough to not be entirely mature or self sufficient. And lestat was pretty seriously abused and neglected, and combined with how young he is he has a complex around older people where he sort of clings on to somebody to be his parental figure and reverts into a childlike mindset in their presence. Like Marius, lol (this also happens with David talbot). This is also definitely due to Lestats maker trauma, where he as a person with already bad abandonment issues, was very seriously abandoned and in the process seriously abused, and so part of Lestat always holds onto the trauma of loosing his maker and is always looking for someone to fulfill that mentor role for him that he was deprived of.
As a child Lestat was neglected so bad that he never had his bad behavior “corrected”, bcus none of the adults in his life cared to teach him how to be a good person. He was only ever beaten for the satisfaction of his abusers, he was never corrected or punished for his sake. This is why lestat often does reckless, stupid things purposefully, bcus he is looking for someone to tell him off. He wants someone to care about him enough to try and teach him how to be good. So, Lestat age regresses by acting out like a kid and doing things he hopes will get him scolded at 😭. Which earns him the brat Prince nickname from Marius, which is just so age regressy it’s insane.
The way Lestat expresses his hysterical emotions def comes off as age regression to me sometimes, specially when he hysterically cries and laughs. Louis describes Lestat in iwtv as immature and stupid, and I think the reason Lestat often behaves this way around Louis is because Louis’s emotional callousness reminds him of his mother, and triggers his age regression reaction where he acts out to get attention.
what I love so much about Armand and lestats dynamic is that they have sooo many of their major issues in common. Lestat and Armand hate each other, but they also love each other bcus in a way they r the only people who understand each other. Ughhhh they r so good.

This post is super long and idk who will read it but if there's anything I love to do on the internet its post aimlessly to no one. (anyway)
It gets said a lot that Betty was naïve in how she entered her relationship with Armando, but we fail to take into account how desperate Betty was to live her own life. From the beginning of her character arc she talks about needing a change.

It starts with Roman's invitation, saying he has a guy for Betty but she needs to ask permission (at her 25 yrs of age). Don Hermes says no.

Betty argues back. Don Hermes' excuse is 'you can't go out with strangers'. But Betty isn't really fighting about going out with some guy. Deep down she knows Roman and his neighborhood troublemaking annoying friends are up to no good. It's not about them. It's about her wanting something, asking for it and being denied.
The scene ends like this:

He says the world is dangerous for women and she doesn't understand that. She claims that she can defend herself and he says the above. Betty runs off crying. Dona Julia goes after her and when she returns Don Hermes asks if she's calmed down. From that question alone, it seems as if this isn't the first time Betty has fought with her dad about the rules he imposes upon her. Nor is it the first time that Betty has ran out of a room crying bc she fought with him and lost.
This has happened before.
I don't want to assume that everyone feels the way I feel about Don Hermes, which is that he's annoying. (I'm using 'annoying' as a broad term to describe his overprotection and the traditional\patriarchal way he runs his household, fyi, I know its there. I see it. But I'm not going to delve in that direction).
But there's a reason he's annoying (overprotective). Everything he does for Betty is laced with good intentions, but those good intentions are a double edged sword. At this stage in the story he appears overprotective and suffocating. It's when Dona Julia is pleading with him to let Betty go out that we hear a mention about Miguel (whose original name was 'Juan Ramon' but gets changed to 'Miguel' later on)--a guy who Betty cared about but 'disappeared'.
Let's backtrack to Betty running out of the room when Don Hermes says no. She cries to her mother about how overprotective and controlling her dad is. It's one of the few times Betty is open with someone about how she feels about the way he treats her. We get brief information about how he decided her education, about how she was sent to catholic school, how she wasn't allowed to hang out with the other girls bc she was too young, that the only male friend she was allowed to have was Nicolas and it was bc they were 'practically raised together' (and bc they knew his mother).
She continues to say ‘how is a man going to see me as a normal woman if you keep me treating me like a child? When the only thing I do is stay locked away in this room with only books and stuffed animals?’ The Miguel Situation gets its first mention and its foreshadowed that it hurt Don Hermes and Dona Julia to see their daughter suffer, but Betty says that one bad experience shouldn’t be a reason why she stays that way the rest of her life (which is very brave of her to say considering we know later how afraid she is of letting herself fall deeper in love with Armando).
The last thing she says to Dona Julia is key,

Betty's running theme is change. The eagerness of something to change. Either she needs to change or her dad needs to change. Something needs to change bc she knows she can't keep living the way she's living. She's desperate for something, anything to happen in her life. She goes on to say:
'Queira la major estudiante, la tuvo. La queria graduada con honores, especialiaziones, la tuvo. La queira trabajando en un gran empresa, la tiene trabajando en un a gran empresa. Yo ya les cumpli. Ahora quiero cumplir con mi vida.’
Again, it's not only about going out with some guy. It's about Betty living her own life now that she's done all the things that have been asked of her. From Betty's pov, she's played by the rules, so at what point is she free to do what she wants?
She is the quintessential good daughter, quintessential good student, and later on the quintessential loyal employee that becomes the quintessential loyal clandestine girlfriend--bc those were the rules she was told to play by. But she's at a point in her life where that's not enough to sustain her.
After hearing this, Dona Julia goes back to Don Hermes to plead on behalf of her daughter, however she says something concerning:

Dona Julia is afraid that if Don Hermes doesn't loosen his restrictions, that Betty will have a nervous breakdown and fall into a depression that will cause her to move out of the house.
Sidestepping the 'what if our daughter moves out' comment---
When Betty confides in Armando about her relationship with Miguel and how it ended, she doesn't call it 'depression'--however the way she describes it is very intune with what depression is.

She didn't want to live, she cried many nights, she missed classes at university. She lost the motivation to do anything. This is more than just a 'break up'. It's a traumatic experience and its aftermath is a period of depression that Betty almost didn't survive. Her parents watched her go through this, helplessly and Betty claims it's why her dad protects her so much.
Here we see her showing that she understands Don Hermes and why he does what he does. However, when we see Betty's childhood flashbacks post letter, we see that Don Hermes has always been this way as a consequence of how the world treats his daughter. We see that Betty gets bullied, marginalized--no loving parent wants their child to suffer. So he isolates her from that world so that nothing bad can ever touch her. He tries to provide her with everything he can--books and stuffed animals. Things to fill a void with.
No one can blame him for wanting to protect his daughter, but by isolating her he inadvertently teaches Betty that the solution to when things get hard is to lock yourself away and internalize everything.
In Don Hermes' defense his child rearing is mostly focused on ethics and math. A parent does what they can. So it's no surprise that after the Miguel Incident, he became even more tightly reigned over Betty's life. But again, it does more harm than good.
After Betty's ghosted by Roman and his sketchy loser friend, she's disappointed and cries. Don Hermes has no idea how to comfort or understand a 25 year old woman as he does not see her as one. He assuages her like a father would a child. He says 'We'll go do something together as a family. We'll go see a movie on Friday, champ'. (Not a literal translation). Then he says to Dona Julia, 'If I hadn't given her permission to begin with, then she wouldn't be upset about being (plantada\ghosted)'. He has no problem being seen as the bad guy in Betty's eyes if it means she avoids getting hurt in a worse way.
A couple days later, Don Hermes insists on driving her to work instead of her walking to her bus stop bc he fears she'll run into Roman and his current loser friends.
Betty says to him:

'Let me handle it' she says. Don Hermes doesn't look convinced. And then immediately Nicolas shows up at her door:

Dona Julia is also looking out for Betty and off screen took it upon herself to have Nicolas walk her to the bus stop that morning. She knows Betty needs some kind independence but using Nicolas as an intermediary gives her reassurance.
Betty rejects both options and rushes out the door. Don Hermes, pulling a Dona Julia, takes Nicolas with him and follows Betty on her way to her stop just in case something happens. What they see is Betty doing what she said she would do--handle it.
When left to her own devices Betty can and will handle things on her own, but both her parents insist in their own ways, to keep her in a protective bubble.
As the series progresses we see Betty become friends with el curatel, more specifically Aura Maria. We can all recall when AM has Betty join her on a double date and said date doesn't end well for Betty. Her date is uninterested, rude--despite Betty's best efforts. She gets home late and her dad is not happy. He calls her a 'descarda' when he sees the car dropping her off and then claims she didn't ask permission, to which Betty says 'Well I called my mom and let her know bc you weren't home'. Which leads to this:

Betty becomes the sole breadwinner of her household at some point but Don Hermes reminds her that that doesn't give her any right to decide what she can do with her free time or what time she can come home at. He then makes claims about AM and the men AM is associated with. Betty then defends her and the men (even tho they were lame):

Betty's face here is trying to contain herself but you can tell she's upset. Especially bc it wasn't the best evening, so to be getting yelled at over it doesn't feel worth it. But also, you can see Betty has a fire in her eyes; quiet frustration and inner rebelliousness bc she has been reminded yet again, that she has no freedom despite having a job in a 'great company' and having all the graduation merits and on top of that, now financially supporting her family. It's not enough. And might never be enough.
Despite this, Betty reigns her anger in and goes back to being the quintessential good daughter:

Don Hermes is not fully convinced but he appears to calm down after that.
A lighter altercation between them happens when he takes Betty home after a lanaziamento. He accuses her of taking too many liberties bc of the job that she has, criticizes her being out too much, criticizes her friends. His main worry is that she forgets her traditional values (Betty: Yo sigo siendo de las casa).

As we know, all Betty does is work and get caught in whatever mess el curatel gets her into. Regardless, Don Hermes doesn't like it. He doesn't like the women Betty surrounds herself with and he doesn't like her work or its events:

'The (fashion) world is too much, it's not for you'\'I know it's not my world, it's my job'.
I don't think Don Hermes is trying to be cruel when he says this, rather, I think he fears Betty will one day throw away the values and ethics he's taught her. (She kinda sorta does) Before she leaves for Cartagena, he insists she take a picture of him and Dona Julia, which gives weight to another inner fear of his; that Betty will forget her family and where she came from.
He stubbornly refuses to see (and accept) that Betty is an adult woman who wants to act like an adult woman. She does want to go out with her friends and dance and have the occasional drink. She does wants to date and meet someone, fall in love and in return show the love she's capable of giving.
She's desperate for the opportunity but believes it will never happen for her, so she decides to only dedicate herself to work and by doing so--and out of loneliness, she embraces her fantasies of (an) Armando that we know doesn't exist bc he's the only one that sees her value as a person and a professional. But when Mariana reads her the tarot cards---

Key word here: Change. Both of your lives are going to change.
Betty has been seeking a change in her life. This feeds into her illusions but she doesn't truly start to believe anything could happen until Armando begins to start acting differently around her.
We know it's the plan taking its course but for Betty this is a dream come true. But even in the beginning she's cautious, she doesn't know if the kiss they shared was a mistake and would rather not mention it to him in order to continue keeping the work relationship they already have (and she's happy to maintain if it means to being in his life).
But because Armando seeks her out, it's difficult for her to resist despite the type of relationship he's offering her. In a similar vein to Armando post letter, when he mentally refuses to put the clues together about why she's acting differently--Betty doesn't put together the recent embargo with his sudden interest in her. Where Armando chooses to be blind; Betty's inner frustrations and illusions of having something in her life that's not just work and an over controlled life, speak louder.
There is naiveté in play. It's true that she doesn't know a lot about the world but it's at the result of the overprotectiveness of Don Hermes that Betty doesn't read the signs as clearly until she reads the letter and is cruelly brought down back to earth.
Betty thought that Armando was the change she had been yearning for and her desperation for that change, for that dream to come true---is why she accepts the relationship he's offering her. He's trusted her implicitly until then, so why would she doubt him now?
The Letter happens and Betty's first instinct, the first action she wants to take is to run away. She doesn't want to go back to work, but Catalina reminds her of her responsibilities, that she can't just jump ship when people like Armando are depending on her. Betty especially can't leave as her parents are also depending on her and to quit suddenly with no warning would raise suspicions.
TW: for brief mentions of ED.
(I talk briefly about Betty skipping meals. I don't think the character has an eating disorder per say, but if you gotten this far and this makes the reader uncomfortable, count 5 paragraphs down to skip).
Betty enters the Gaslighting Arc depressed and dead inside. She's no longer a student, she can't afford to take days off to lay comatose in her bed. She also can't let her parents find out that something like Miguel (only worse) has happened to her again.
Post letter on, the series makes a habit of showing Betty either skipping breakfast or skipping dinner. Usually this is just done to show that a character is in a rush and usually bears no importance.
But this happens multiple times. At El Meson she orders vodka and they never get dinner. At Le Noir, despite Nicolas saying they make great eggs, she has him order wine. The night of Armando's last lanzamiento, Armando knows she hasn't eaten and offers to bring her dinner which she rejects. And lastly her diary entry\ voice over from the night she buys the mercedes\rejects Armando's call:

'Desvanezco' is to 'fade'\'vanish'. '...I am fading away before him while he only cares about his company' (rough translation).
Betty acknowledges here that she's not taking care of herself. In the first entry Post Letter she states that she doesn't have the strength to resuscitate herself again. She's metaphorically dead but the reality is that she's depressed and the only thing sustaining her during this period is her anger. (and alcohol). And once the Junta Directiva happens and everything is revealed, Betty in only left with the hurt.

Audience members get annoyed with Betty in the first half of the Cartagena Arc bc she continues to put herself down--Catalina is almost the audience insert with how put off she is with Betty's self deprecation.
It's not healthy or helpful for Betty to view herself this way and yes, it's a learned behavior that she needs to break desperately. But what the audience forgets is that Betty is tired. This is a woman that has tried to change things in her life and she always gets it wrong. Her first foray into love is a failure bc he used her, her attempts at dating are another failure, when she tries to change her look it's another failure; she put all her love and hope into Armando and then he betrays her.
She's been beaten down so much by those attempts, on top of society's view of her--that of course once in Cartagena she immediately feels out of place. Of course her first instinct, yet again, is to run back to the safe haven her dad has always provided for her.

'This isn't my world' which harkens back to Don Hermes telling her a similar thing, '...That's not for you'. It's not helpful and fuels Betty's fight or flight. And she's always picking flight.
This is Betty's first time away from home. This is the first time she has ever been away from her parents. That's why the airport scene with them is so dramatic. She's never slept a night away that's not in her house. A 'niña de la casa' no more. This is the opportunity that she's been waiting for but she doesn't see that yet amid the heartbreak.
Catalina has to guide her and essentially push her out of her comfort zone; and challenge her way of thinking and seeing the world and herself. Betty's always wanted changes in her life but she never knew that in order to embrace new things into your life, you have to be open about it mentally. You can't hide and internalize everything in your entire life. It's damaging to oneself.
In the middle of her trip she tells Nicolas, "No. I can't leave. I'm living something very important here. They (the board) can wait'. Betty is finally putting herself first and putting her foot down. Had they insisted on her presence at the beginning of her trip, she would have gone back.
Betty didn't just need to get away from Armando, she needed to get away from her family, specifically her dad. The internal and external changes that Betty goes through in Cartagena would not have been possible in Bogota. Not with Don Hermes breathing down her neck and Dona Julia flustered in the background. It wouldn't have happened as he wouldn't have allowed it.
Betty needed to leave the protective bubble of her family to learn that she can put herself together, that she can handle it and come back stronger.
Don Hermes' goodbye at the airport consists of giving Catalina instructions of things Betty isn't allowed to do (she doesn't drink, she doesn't party). He, again, refuses to see her as an adult woman. But he is forced to when she comes back from Cartagena:

He goes on to say, 'I feel like I'm lecturing another person, not my daughter'.
But that doesn't stop him as he lectures her into the night:

This is inadvertently what he's taught her to do tho--run away from a situation bc it became hard.
However Betty defends herself and says she came back to deal with issue at hand and take responsibility for her part in it. She's not proud of what she did.

'Don't think I did all of that and then went on vacation. I needed a change in my life'.
This is the change Betty truly needed, the one she's been waiting for and the one that sticks. She needed to learn to see the value in herself, realize that she's not the only one who has ever suffered and more importantly learning not to abandon herself as soon she gets hurt.
No one else was ever going to give her that. Not a relationship, not her family, not her friends. Those people (specifically her family) may love her but in certain instances their love and affection is a blind spot for them and can inadvertently hold her back bc of their insistence on protecting her from the world.
My personal feelings for Don Hermes aside, he loves his daughter and everything he does is well intentioned. He's not necessarily a bad person or bad father, but his over protection is suffocating and his refusal to see that his daughter is no longer a child plays a part in Betty's arc about wanting people to see her as she is--A person that is smart and capable and deserving of respect.
He plays a big part in why Betty does what she does, her inner rebelliousness, her frustrations come from the restrictions he imposes on her. He's not wrong about certain things but he's not 100% right about how he goes about them when it comes to Betty.
As a husband...well.
Anyway.
Betty becomes more independent Post Cartagena and her dad kind of slowly accepts it, especially when it's said in passing that she as a midnight curfew. He's still annoying, but that is simply his character trait.

Towa: But I… want to create a troupe just like MANKAI Company!
Towa: When I participated in the Spring Troupe's workshop, I learned a little about how plays are created, and what it feels like to stand on stage...
Towa: And I became more interested in theater.
Towa: And then, when I actually watched the Spring Troupe’s performance in a theater, I was moved in a way I’ve never been before.
Towa: Thanks to the hard work of many people, the play takes on a real form on top of the stage, and the actors truly shine…
Towa: It made me think that I want to stand on that stage as well. I want to try shining the way everyone does…
Towa: This may be too simple, and my way of thinking might be naive, but…
Towa: I feel like fate brought me here, to find what I want to do, and to discover theater!
Tsuzuru: … I see. Fate, huh?
Towa: I’m sorry, this probably seems really stupid to you…
Izumi: Not at all.
Tsuzuru: I’ve also felt this way, so I get it.
Sakuya: I also felt that way when I first experienced theater.
Citron: We totally understand Towa’s feels~!
Izumi: Moments like that do happen. I believe that if you feel like you’re destined to act, then that means you have the talent for it.
Tsuzuru: I understand your motivation, and I’d love to cooperate with you. But when you’re the only member in the troupe…
Tsuzuru: Performing a one-person act as a beginner is pretty difficult, so I’d rather your troupe has at least 4 members.
Towa: I need 3 more…
Towa: … I understand! I’ll find them!
Tsuzuru: Alright. I’ll be waiting.
Izumi: Do your best.
Sakuya: We’ll be cheering for you!
Towa: Thank you very much!

So they're starting with Mikage's backstory? Interesting
Actually, I wonder how they'll go about showing that Mamiya was Anthy all along
Mamiya doing that quick spin with Anthy, and then Utena with Tokiko...
I love the "Burn" song, it does a good job at setting the mood for this arc
Ok we're getting a reminder of Utena's story and what happened in the previous musical
I love the way Saionji tosses his hair lmao. Cunty. And how he runs away with that pathetic "UaUaAaaaa!!". he's such a loser
I like how these musicals really want us to associate "the princess was wrapped in the scent of roses" not necessarily with Dios, but with Anthy. She appears every time this line is sung
Ooooh even during the "on the previous episode" part, Mikage and Mamiya are already watching everything from the shadows
Btw, Mikage's voice sounds really similar to the original in my opinion
The parallels between Mamiya and Anthy are so clear, "if you say so, senpai" = "if utena-sama says so"
Akio being introduced so casually when it's obvious that he's super important to the plot also reflects how it happened in anime
Utena/Anthy and Mikage/Mamiya parallels..Mmmm delicious
I looooove how the whole cast is gradually presented (one relationship by one) and then at the end there's Akio with Anthy. Such an amazing way to show the way all these relationships connect and mirror each other
This musical's theme song being about light, mirrors and never letting go of something that might seem like an illusion...huh...
The scenes simultaneously happening on the stage impact each other - Akio is talking with Utena in the tower, but at the same time pushes Kozue towards Miki. Only a stage adaptation would be able to portray it this way

Wakaba singing the lines from the first musical about the book she'd read, but this time with her voice breaking, on the verge of crying. I can't stand this
Saionji and Wakaba both singing about a prince on a white horse - Saionji mocking Utena by this, Wakaba actually idealizing Saionji. God, it works so well
Wakaba's duel broke my heart. The actress is so good at capturing the desperation and sorrow in her voice
For the first time Akio is implied to actually have been the one to give Utena the ring...and the way he grabs the supporting dancer and shoves him to the ground. He gives off such sinister vibes
The friendship song is both hopeful and sad because it proves what Akio said - Wakaba had her moment of happiness and specialness but then she had to go back to her normal life of the supporting character. I think this arc must have been incredibly difficult to pull off in this form, without being able to do quick cuts and transitions that could be shown in the anime. But they did such a good job! Actually, they kept surprising me with clever ways of adapting the themes of the show to fit this adaptation. I was constantly impressed

A+ Library Review: "Loveless" by Alice Oseman
This is not technically the first installment of this, but it is the first time I'm making it A Thing. A+ Library is my new segment where I review books with asexual and/or aromantic characters.

The book description for Loveless is:
Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush - but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she's sure she'll find her person one day. As she starts university with her best friends, Pip and Jason, in a whole new town far from home, Georgia's ready to find romance, and with her outgoing roommate on her side and a place in the Shakespeare Society, her 'teenage dream' is in sight. But when her romance plan wreaks havoc amongst her friends, Georgia ends up in her own comedy of errors, and she starts to question why love seems so easy for other people but not for her.

So let's get to it.
TL;DR: Thumbs up from me
Since Loveless centers entirely around the aroace experience, I will not be breaking the review into sections like last time.
Loveless is a coming-of-age story about Georgia's first year at college. It begins with her graduation party out of high school and ends with her establishing plans for her second year of college. It's very slice-of-life, with a focus pretty much exclusively on Georgia's interpersonal relationships and her personal growth.
Oof. Okay. Loveless was at times hard for me to read, and not because it's bad, but because it hit so close to so many of my own experiences at Georgia's age. There were so many times I felt myself going "Oh yeah, I remember that. Yep, there's that phase. Yep, I told myself that story too. Yep, yep, yep."
Just like Georgia, I considered myself someone with "high standards" who would inevitably break the romance and sex barrier when I got to college. This book hit on so many of my own insecurities from that phase, some of which I still struggle with at times, but I will try to be objective about this review nonetheless.
Loveless does a wonderful job of unfurling Georgia's journey, from the start where she considers herself "just like everyone else" but a bit slow on the romance front, to realizing she's Different, through the difficult process of starting to accept that difference as part of her.
Unlike my last review, Loveless earns its found family by showing how Georgia and her friends grow together and apart and back together--with additions. Everyone in Loveless is on their own journey--and at different stages of it. From Pip who's been out as lesbian since she was fifteen and eager for a first girlfriend, to Rooney who's long suspected she's not really straight, to Georgia who's only just grasping the words to describe her experience.
And sometimes they hurt each other! One of the complaints I had about One Last Stop was how all the relationships (protag's mom aside) are entirely fluffy feel-good. Loveless eschews that by showing how friends can hurt each other even when they don't mean to, and how people have competing needs, and how past struggles can impact your present. But in spite of that, it's clear how much all of the main cast grow to care for each other over the course of the book, such that the ending is truly heartwarming.
The prose suits Georgia's voice, which is to say it sounds like an 18/19 year old girl is speaking. That means it's not very eloquent, and it can be blunt and cringy, but in a very believable, realistic way to me.
Georgia's coming of age isn't limited to just her orientation. At the start of the book, she is painfully alien to herself. Georgia doesn't seem to know anything about herself, as if she's spent all her adolescence wrapped in a thick blanket glued to fanfic and refusing to interrogate any of her own feelings--which is probably what happened. It means that she has a very rough time when she enters college. Unlike many such stories, Georgia is not jumping at the bit to be on her own--in the moment when her parents dust off their hands and prepare to leave her with her boxes of stuff in her new dorm, Georgia contemplates begging them not to leave her.
Loveless really captures a sentiment I experienced with asexuality, which was the sense of being left behind by your peers, of feeling childish and immature. Desperate to shake the feeling, Georgia makes an admirable effort at "putting herself out there," doing all kinds of things she doesn't really think she'll like, but wants to give a try, just in case. In some cases, she bombs--but in others, like the Shakespeare Society, she really blossoms. I thought the book makes an excellent picture of a lost young person beginning their adult life with no real idea of who they are, and trying to solve that problem.
Perhaps most painful of all, Loveless captures Georgia's fear of not knowing what her future will look like now that whirlwind love affair-->marriage-->2.5 kids is off the table. It's particularly difficult for her because Georgia so desperately wants that romance--except that for her it's something of a mirage: as soon as it gets close--like when a boy tries to kiss her--all her interest is gone in a flash. Georgia wants to want romance and sex...but she doesn't, really. Even when she's accepted her orientation, she really struggles with what this means for the rest of her life, which also felt very relatable. Partnering up is seen as virtually inevitable, and as the book points out: life is scary! It's way less scary when you have a Person! Therefore, part of Georgia's insecurity and uncertainty focuses a lot on what her future is going to be, and it's not a question she's solved by the end of the book. But it is one she's becoming less afraid of.
There were a few things that struck me as odd, like Pip's claim she had never "fully connected" with friends who aren't Latina, a sentiment echoed by Sonil's refusal to accept his asexuality until he met other Indian people who also used the label...obviously there are certain things that friends who don't share your racial or cultural background may not fully understand, but the idea that you can't connect with anyone who doesn't share your same racial make-up is...uncomfortable, I think. But these remarks pass quickly.
Additionally, the way Rooney and Georgia berate themselves for "experimenting" comes off unnecessarily harsh to me...part of dating is learning whether you're compatible with that person. And yeah--sometimes that means figuring out if you are or are not attracted to them, or their gender more broadly. There's nothing inherently wrong with starting to date someone you're not sure you're into, and then realizing you aren't.
The book also beats Georgia's fanfic reading to death a little, in my view. It gets mentioned way more than it needs to, and citing specific ships and tropes a) is going to date the book like hell; and b) is irritatingly obtuse to anyone who doesn't know what "Stucky" or "flower shop AU" is.
If you're deep into the ace/aro online community, this book may come off as retreading a lot of well-trod ground for you. There's nothing especially ground-breaking in it. But if you're not so connected, or you're new to the aro/ace community, or you just want a book that still-coming-out you needed, I think this is a great pick.

Mario absolutely loves his brother Luigi. They’ve been pretty much attached to the hip ever since the two of them were born. Although Mario was more of the expressive one while Luigi typically kept to himself he wouldn’t change it any other way. Luigi was the best brother and if anyone ever said otherwise they were met with receiving an earful from Mario. Honestly, he could never see why anyone would hate him. If they did then there was clearly something up with them. He would never leave his brother for anything. The two of them were like a package deal. And with the adventurous the two of them would go on, the bond between them would only strengthen. But sometimes on the inside he still didn’t feel good enough for Luigi. He could see the smile on his brother’s face every time they did something together but something in his mind was telling him it was fake. He didn’t have any other reason than that deep intrusive thought that Luigi despises him. Of course Luigi doesn’t hate him, he doesn’t have it in him to hate him. He was there for him when he was at his lowest, always trying to cheer him up. It would be wrong to hate him after all that. But it didn’t convince Mario. He couldn’t help but feel like Luigi envy’s him for being better than him. For being more confident than him. For having everything that he was unable to achieve. Sometimes he doesn’t feel like he even deserves the things he has. He feels like Luigi actually deserves all the good things that were happening to him. Not him. This thought kept roaming through his mind even starting to affect day to day things. Even doing the simplest things was starting to become hard for him. Even being in the same room as his brother was hurting him. He just feels really guilty for feeling this but no matter what it wouldn’t go away. Of course it didn’t go unnoticed by Luigi. He wasn’t stupid he knew something was up with his older brother but Mario was too stubborn. He kept on insisting everything was fine. Forcing a smile on his face but Luigi wasn’t convinced but at the same time he didn’t want to bother his brother too much so for now he just let it be. He was too far lost in this self deprecation that it even started to affect his sleep. Sometimes he finds himself staying up way too late that eyebags started to form under his eyes. Even when he did manage to get at least an hour in it was interrupted by nightmares about him just being alone with no one by his side. Not even his own brother. Tonight he wasn’t free from this grasp.
Tonight was the night he was trying to get more than an hour or two so he pretty much forced himself to go to bed early hoping it would change something but as he was on his way to dreamland there was this gut feeling that something bad was going to happen. But regardless he surprisingly managed to nod off to sleep. When he did enter that dream stage he was immediately met with a castle. He would question how the hell he got here but for some reason he didn’t. Not like it was possible to question something that is happening in a dream. Regardless, he managed to push through and enter the castle. Jumping through obstacles, smashing enemies as he passed, grabbing power ups and more. Eventually he managed to arrive at another gate. At first he was expecting to fight Bowser like he always does. Honestly he thinks Bowser should just quit it by now. However he was immediately caught off guard as he entered the room. Before he knew it he saw a familiar face. It was his brother Luigi. His eyes widened from the surprise but he managed to speak up “Luigi, what are you doing here?” He asked, wondering why his brother was here. As far as he was aware, it was just him. He could hear his brother scoff to himself and replied “why are you surprised Mario? After everything you're still surprised? You thought Koopa worked alone?” He asked him a slightly sarcastic question as if he was expecting him to already know. Of course this only confused Mario even more “What? What are you talking about?” He asked once again his voice started to shake a bit. Luigi crossed his arms while a small smirk formed on his face “You really thought you got away with this act? You thought that you could just take everything away from me, leaving me to starve for the slightest bit of appreciation. Wanting me to beg like a dog just to receive a single praise. Unfortunately that’s where you are wrong brother.” “Luigi, you're not making any sense. Where is this coming from?” He asked all he could do was ask as a slight tear formed in his eye to which Luigi shot back “oh stop acting stupid!” He shouted back “You took everything from me no one noticed me, no one praised me for things that I helped you with. All they could focus on was you. What did you have that I didn’t? We're practically the same.” Luigi ranted, letting his emotions get the best of him. Just hearing his younger brother yell at him was pulling at his heart strings he couldn’t help but start to cry “Luigi I’m sorry. I honestly did try my best to help you. I thought you didn’t mind it.” Luigi scoffed once again “stop wasting your tears brother. It’s far too late to do anything. Now I’m going to make sure you regret your actions.”
Before he knew it Luigi lunged at Mario catching Mario off guard. He ended up getting pinned on the bridge with the lava floating below the two of them. He desperately tried to wrestle his brother off of him but it was no use he was set on murdering him. “Luigi, can we talk about this?” He said even though he knew he might get killed by him but it still didn’t stop him from trying “I hate you Mario! I hate you so damn much. Even the minuscule things in me are filled with hate for you. You're not going to live after this and I will try my hardest to make it come true.” He couldn't believe it. Luigi was actually willing to kill him. He could hear the hatred in his voice but still he refused to believe it. His brother would never do this but there was hard core evidence that it was true. Eventually he managed to push Luigi off of him. But it only just made Luigi attack him more, managing to land a few blows on him. Before he knew it without even knowing he attacked Luigi but instead of just knocking him back Luigi lost his footing and landed in the lava below them. Mario noticing what was happening tried to catch him but it was too late. He was already in the lava. His screams of agony filled the room as the flames engulfed him. Mario couldn’t help but cover his ears. He didn’t want to hear his brother's screams as his body melted into nothing. When he eventually sunk fully into the flames Mario just bursted into tears. He didn’t mean to kill his brother, he honestly didn’t. He just wanted to defend himself but he ended up killing his brother in the process. He didn’t know how long it was but he just kept on crying, unable to move.
Before he knew it his eyes opened wide tears welting in his eyes as he was brought back to his senses. He ended up sitting up in his bed, hand ruffling through his hair as he tried to process what the hell just happened. Was that all a dream? God that was way too realistic. He looked down towards his pillow and saw the tears stained the pillow case. He wiped his tears as he tried to calm himself down before realising. Luigi? Is he alive? As soon as his name entered his mind he hurried out of his bed tripping on the blanket as he tried to get out. He scrambles to his feet before rushing to his brother's room desperate to see if he was still alive. When he opened the door he was half expecting to see an empty bed but luckily he was comforted by seeing a sleepy Luigi in it. He couldn’t help but start to cry some more. He honestly thought he lost him. But still he couldn’t tell if this was another dream or not. He needed to see if it was or not. He went up to his bedside, gently probing at his cheek wanting him to give him a sign that he was alive. Due to the constant probing it ended up waking him up. As soon as he woke up he ended up getting greeted by his tear filled eyes brother and…wait Mario was teared up? This can’t be right? He was too surprised at seeing his brother cry that he didn’t question why he was in his room. “Mario…is everything alright? Have you been crying?” He asked nervously, he wasn’t used to seeing his brother cry. It felt wrong to see him cry. Then he heard Mario say in a trembling tone “do you hate me?” He asked tears rolling down his cheeks “what? No of course not Mario, what gives you that idea?” He was surprised at what Mario said and honestly a little offended that he asked. Mario brought him into a hug, his tears staining his top. He slightly stiffened up, surprised at the sudden affection “please tell me you're not lying…you're not lying right?” He desperately asked after the nightmare he was desperate to confirm that he doesn’t hate him “Mario what’s the matter? I don’t hate you and I’m not lying about it” Mario raised his head, his eyes becoming puff and turned slightly red “…I’m sorry it’s just…I had a nightmare” He sobbed in between his speech. “I've been bothered lately…it’s just after everything we’ve been through I just had this feeling that you hate me” Luigi eyes widened himself. He knew something was bothering him but he didn’t think it was this bad. “I couldn’t help but feel like I’ve been a burden for you…taking everything away from you” he rambled slightly before being stopped by Luigi who gently placed his hand on top of his, rubbing it as some sort of comfort “Mario, I could never hate you. You’ve helped me through some bad times even when I thought I wouldn’t survive. You managed to pull me out of it. Nothing in this world could make me hate you.” Luigi said a comforting smile was on his face and for once Mario didn’t have that feeling that he was taking it. He could tell he actually meant it. He offered a weak smile his eyes still puffy and red from the previous crying “I’m sorry for not telling you sooner Luigi…I just didn’t want to bother you…I just didn’t think I deserve to get heard out” Mario sighed to himself tears still forming in his eyes though it was more out of relief than actual sadness. Luigi decided to bring Mario into another hug gently rubbing his older brothers back before he calmed down “Don’t worry Mario, I’ll be here for you whenever you needed even if it’s in a scary situation” he comforted him and continued to do so even to the point of morning. Mario finally felt free of this consciousness he had.

Argh, I hate this clunky, sucky chapter. It took me a while to figure out how to incorporate scenes taken from the Julan mod, and even after rewrites, this part still isn't working. The dialogue doesn't feel right at all, and while at least I'm trying to write action, I still can't write action. Oh, well. I'll get a lot more practice writing action now that Julan's here, getting himself into every stupid fight possible.
The answer, by the way, as to how to incorporate scenes from the mod, is to never fucking do that. Just write a new conversation, or new scene, something specific to this story and these characters. The Ald'ruhn bar scene with Julan in chapter 11 was fine for that reason - it's not in the mod! Using mod stuff meant I was trying to wrangle dialogue I not only wrote many years earlier, when my writing skills were even less developed, but was written in conversation with the Morrowind Protagonist, i.e. a faceless could-be-anyone.
After I finished HTDC, I actually went and did a fresh editing pass on all Julan's mod dialogue, because so much of it had annoyed me during my Iriel playthrough. That, and the Bloodmoon content, is what ended up in the 3.0 beta I put out in 2018. (Yes, I dragged Iriel through Bloodmoon, and ran through all the quest branch possibilities, including making him a werewolf. He hated every second of it, and it is extremely not canon for him.) While I don't think there's much overlap, because of my new-conversations, new-scenes policy, I was aware that, in theory, someone could scrutinise dates, realise certain new lines appeared in HTDC before Julan 3.0, and either deduce my authorship of the fic, or accuse me of plagiarising myself. While that would have been funny, I was pretty sure my secret was safe with the internet's indifference.

This was intended to be a fic commentary, not a mod commentary, but it's inevitably going to end up being both: why clannfears? Why three? Seems unlikely, but I didn't want ash beasts on this side of the Fence, and it had to be something reasonably, but not seriously, dangerous. Please also bear in mind that I had never released a quest mod before, never thought anyone would play it, and was just throwing random stuff together, especially in these early stages. My main issue was that the battle needed to last a long time, because NPC/creature AI starts running when the player enters the cell, maybe the next-cell-but-one, if you're in an exterior? I forget. The point is, the player might wander around the foyadas for a good while, before they stumbled upon Julan getting minced. So the mod clannfears have a lot of HP, but don't actually do much damage.
The Dunmer had collapsed against a rock
It is intended to be balanced so that, without player intervention, Julan will always end up getting killed by them. Obviously, if you turn up and he's filing his nails over a pile of dead bodies, the conversation where he begs you for help is gonna fall a bit flat. 
His armour was battered, mismatched and incomplete: no greaves, only chitin boots and guarskin pants that the Daedra’s claws had torn through like tissue paper. No helm, only a scarf against the ash, long since fallen loose, and a netch leather cuirass that looked considerably older than he was.
I really dodged a bullet, here, because when I originally chose Julan's base outfit, I had no idea lots of people would go on to draw him in it, so I wasn't trying particularly hard to make it look aesthetically cool, coherent or pleasing. Thankfully, Morrowind art direction came through for me, and I still think it works! Picking items, I was just going for "deliberate mishmash" and "stuff an outcast Ashlander might plausibly have got his hands on".

Iriel was in absolutely no mood to prop up someone else’s over-active machismo. “You’re bleeding to death,” he observed, neutrally.

So, I have an agenda, in this bit of commentary. Because, much later, Iriel will aggressively try to characterise Julan's reasons for travelling with him in a certain way. And some readers bought it! Which may be my fault, and I don't blame people for not remembering everything about this first meeting, but... look. Come on. Who has the power, here?
Ire pointed mutely to a large, freely-bleeding gash in the Dunmer’s thigh, and the elf’s expression changed. “Oh. Sheogorath, that’s… more blood than I…” He tried to get to his feet, but the moment he tried to put weight on the injured leg, his face turned pale, and he fell back with a sharp groan. “I can’t… nngh…”
Me, forcibly pointing later-Iriel's head at this scene. Who was weak, here again, Ire? Who was strong? Who was collapsed on the ground, torn apart, and who was literally standing over him, acting superior and indifferent?
“Wait! Please.” There was panic spilling into the Dunmer’s voice. “It’s… possible… I could use some help.”
Who's the strong one, Ire?
Ire had a splitting headache, and a fraction of his usual ability to tolerate fools, which was never high to begin with, especially those with more pride than sense. “Possible?” he said.
I want you to know that I rejected the idea of posting the Leo di Caprio pointing meme, every time the chapter word comes up. See, the things I spare you.
Anyway, Ire: who's making someone beg for his life, just because you caught him, in a moment of terrified panic, trying to use a tough, macho persona as a shield? And yes, that's set off all your resentment of men like that, and yes, you've had a rough day, and are feeling like death, but come on.
Iriel's reluctance to get involved has something else feeding into it - the whole Rabinna thing. Lots of Ire's brain still associates trying to help others with looming disaster and crippling guilt.
The Dunmer growled. “Fine! I need your help! Happy now? I’m not about to beg you, n'wah. I’d rather bleed to death. But if you won’t help me, then go away and let me die in peace.” 
As with Tsiya, don't let someone's surface rudeness combine with Iriel's personal biases and victim complex to blind you to the actual power dynamic.
He glared at Ire with the last vestiges of his defiance, until it all suddenly crumbled. “I’m sorry,” he gasped. “I’m sorry. You’re right. About everything. Nothing’s under control, everything’s…” He coughed again, and struggled to breathe.
Julan: I'm not about to beg you, n'wah [immediately starts begging]
Ire didn't even have to push him, to collapse the tough persona, because there was literally nothing left holding it up. Who's the weak one, Ire?
But let's keep interrogating this alleged strong/weak dichotomy I'm trying to push on you, here: certainly Julan's in a position of weakness on all levels, but how is Ire strong? He's able to stand, sure. He's found himself in a position of power over Julan, and is enjoying leaning into that. But earlier I implied we might cut Iriel some slack for his shitty behaviour because he's feeling rough. Doesn't it then follow that, just like Tsiya then (constantly), and Julan now (briefly) he's being an asshole because he doesn't have the strength to be kinder, more empathetic?
On the one hand, yes. On the other hand: yes, BUT: this is the same logic Iriel uses himself, to constantly frame himself as weak from both directions, as a helpless victim, both of other people, and his own brain. This is what his self-hatred uses to twist memories and situations, leading to his logically incoherent rants in the Ashlands later, that still might sound persuasive, because he's articulate and emotionally raw.
Let's get out of Iriel's tangle of a brain, and stick to the physical facts. Both later, outside the Urshilaku burial, and here at Ghostgate, Ire has all the power, and Julan's collapsed in the dirt, a mental and physical wreck.
His voice shook. “Please. I… I don’t want to die. Not here, not like this.”
Interesting bit of additional clarification by Julan, there.
Anyway, Ire, I thought you were into the thought of boys prostrating themselves before you, begging for your favour, last night? What's wrong? Reality too messy? Nasty rough Dunmer boys don't mesh with the fantasy? (Are you sure? He just said you were right about everything, which is one of your major kinks.)
Iriel rubbed his forehead. “Hold still. I’ll see what I can do.”
In Ire's defence, that's not what tipped the balance in favour of helping. Someone's hot-or-not rating isn't how he decides who deserves kindness, that's unfair to him. Anyway, to him, this isn't kindness. He just doesn't want more mess on his conscience.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve taken you to bed, you know.”
Although now Ire's flirting, so something about this situation clearly registered positively.
“What?!” “Never mind. I was joking, poorly.
The sort of flirting that can be immediately walked back as a joke, if someone reacts badly.
The Dunmer was looking at him with a confusion that teetered on the brink of epiphany. “Go back to the part about… about…” Ire couldn’t help pushing it slightly further. “You don’t remember when we slept together, back in Ald'ruhn?”
Iriel remembers their last meeting, but apparently Julan doesn't. Which means Ire's in control of the situation on an informational level, as well as physical. He finds this amusing and, leaning back into the plausibly-deniable-joke angle, deliberately tries to make Julan uncomfortable. He considers this fair play, because if Julan's not homophobic, he won't be made uncomfortable by it, right?
The Dunmer’s expression passed through various stages, from its starting point in confusion, through incredulity to horrified realisation. He swallowed. “I was in Ald'ruhn. And you do seem familiar, somehow… But I… I… don’t think… I mean, I’m not… I’m sure I would remember that.”
Iriel's not sure precisely what was about to come out of Julan's mouth after "I'm not...", only that he understands the meaning of it. Later, he will fill it in as "not a vassith". Which is both fair and unfair. Unfair, because the Velothi f-slur isn't a word that trips naturally off Julan's tongue. Fair, because Iriel's right about the general direction of the road Julan's brain was stumbling along. He didn't finish the sentence because he was biting back a slur, though. Just because he wasn't sure how to, and he didn't want to try.
Because what do you call it, when you're definitely into women, and, okay, maybe, sometimes have... confusing thoughts about certain men, but you've never done anything and you don't want to, because you don't need to, right, you like girls, so it's okay. Probably everyone gets these thoughts, it's just a stupid, random... thing. You don't have to think about it, because there's no point, so you don't, you just put it in the box of things you don't think about.
Julan has a lot of things he doesn't think about. He's really good at it, except when he's not, and that's what the alcohol is for.
He stared, blankly, obviously struggling to sort through his memories. “I… I was drinking a lot, and sometimes it’s all just a blank when I wake up, but…”
Except... what if his good friend alcohol betrayed him, this time? Drunk Julan does stupid things. Drunk Julan makes bad decisions. What if... what if drunk Julan did do something with the pretty Altmer scholar, who admittedly might be the sort of man he could find attractive, if he was into that, which he's not, but drunk Julan might do anything, he can't be sure! What if he did? (Chapter title: also refers to the word floating through Julan's head right now.)
The joke had already worn thin for Iriel, who decided to cut his losses before he heard something he would regret instigating. “We shared a room, not a bed,” he said crisply. “You were unconscious. Nothing else happened, so you can stop worrying.
Iriel doesn't know and, honestly, doesn't very much care whether Julan's homophobia is internalised or not. He knows that look of horror, and anything Julan says is going to twist the knife further. Worse, Ire realises his "joke", if taken seriously, implies Ire might have taken advantage of Julan while drunk, and the last thing he needs is the Predatory Gay phantom crawling out of the depths of the Pit to clutch at him. He's setting his self esteem up for another massacre, if he can't claw the situation back.
I assure you, passed-out-drunk vagrants are really not my type.
Julan also isn't Ire's type in several other ways, but he's trying to end the conversation, not pick a new fight by slinging personal insults about violent idiots. Julan mostly just hears the "not my type" part, which he registers with a large amount of relief, and a small amount of something odd that he's not going to think about.
The Dunmer nodded, sympathetically. “Drink?”
Let's get this relationship back to where everyone feels most comfortable with it: supported by alcohol.

Y/n was a lonely girl, since she moves out of her parents home she’s been all alone. She walked down the street when a flyer blew onto her leg in the wind. She picked up and read it. “Elvis Presley live this Saturday” she thought for a moment, it was Saturday. She had soothing to do so why not go see this “Elvis” character. She looked further down the page to see a picture of a handsome young man in a suit,smiling while holding his guitar. She couldn’t help but be a little flustered at his appearance. He was pretty cute.
That evening she entered the night club where he was playing at. She sat down at a table and ordered a drink, soon the drink came and she began to sip it. A few minuets after the handsome young Elvis stepped out onto the stage. “Hello ladies and gentlemen, this first song I’ll be playin’ here tonight will be I can’t help Fallin’ in love.” His country accent made her blush. The song began as he sang “Wise men say, only fools rush in. But I can’t help falling in love with you” his eyes locked with hers in a quick glance. She saw his crystal blue eyes as he stared right at her. He blushes a bit but continued to sing. “Shall I stay? Would it be a sin, If I can’t help falling in love with you” she at him lovingly. Not knowing what to do at this point, she’s staring at him all goo-goo eyed. It seems all the other ladies in the room are too. But Elvis only seemed to be looking her way. Soon enough the song had ended, and he started singing another, and another, and another. Before long his performance was over. Y/n grabbed her purse and slung it over her shoulder, walking out. As she pushed the door open she heard a farmhouse voice calling to her “Hey wait up darlin’” She turned around to see the very man that was playing on the stage that night. “H-hi” she said a little flustered. She wasn’t expecting this. “I saw you in the crowd tonight, you stood out to me, I don’t get to see many faces as pretty as yours around here” y/n got slightly flushed at his comment. “Why thank you” she said nervously. “I was wonderin’” he said more nervous than his confident stance before. “Would ya like to go out with me sometime?” She could barely think of what to say. She was stunned. Why would someone like Elvis want to go out with someone like her. She finally managed to get out the words “y-yeah I’d love that” “great, how does next Friday sound to ya?” “Sounds good to me” she replied nervously. He smiles softly before pulling out a pen and a little piece of paper. “Would you mind givin’ me your number so I can call ya?” It was almost like he had planned this, that he just happened to have a paper and a pen. “Sure” y/n said before writing her number on the paper and giving it to him. “Well I gotta go my manager will be a waitin’ on me. “Okay see you Friday” she says blushing, as he runs off towards the backstage entrance. That week was one of the longest in her life, but after what seemed like forever, Friday evening came. She walked into the restaurant in her fancy dress that she had bought just for the occasion. There he was. The most handsome man she had met in her whole life. He was sitting at the table waiting. They had a wonderful date. Afterwards, He was walking her up to the doorstep of her apartment. “I really had a nice night, thank you” y/n said “I did too” Elvis replied. He looked down at her, moving closer until they’re faces where only inches apart. “Would it be okay if I kissed you?” He asked with a whisper. “Y-yeah” she said, matching his whispering tone. He leaned down and pressed his lips against hers softly. The kiss get like an eternity, and neither of them wanted to end it. “I’ve got to be getting inside” y/n said “yeah” he replied “but I’ll be callin’ you, I can wait for our second date. She walked in and imagined they’re second date while she fell asleep

Key differences between Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu!! and Gekidan Haikyuu!! (+ Review)
Btw don’t ask me for scans of the pamphlet or bromides bc I didn’t buy them. The only merch I bought was a t-shirt and a towel ok BABY’S ON A BUDGET.

• No “hyper projection” and no rotating stage
• Less emphasis on music and dancing, more on acting
• The stage is level and not on an incline. This means the volleyball net could be on wheels and be rolled around on the stage (in fact, most of the set pieces were on wheels)
• No epic opening or closing sequences
• Very few (if any, I don’t remember) musical interludes—really, there was music only during the volleyball matches
• No Seijoh/Oikawa theme music 🥲 or Nekoma theme (for when they’re briefly mentioned in the announcement of the GW training camp)
• More characters! Seijoh actors doubled as Yukigaoka players/all FOUR members of the Karasuno Neighborhood Association, not just Shimada and Takinoue!
• They really fleshed out the Yukigaoka vs. Kitaichi game! Like, Hinata had actual teammates, it wasn’t just him and Kagz 1 v 1 on the court like it was in the first Haisute (although, I guess it wasn’t technically 1 v 1 then either bc Kindaichi and Kunimi were also there)
• They included even more scenes from the series and stayed even truer to the source material. I think leaving out the music and intense dance breaks opened up a lot of room for this
Some callbacks to Engeki:
• Hinata hums the tune to a musical motif from Engeki but I cannot for the life of me remember which one it was even though I JUST saw it today. If I had to guess (bc the scene involved Hinata imitating Kagz), it was Kageyama’s theme from the first Haisute when he whips off his cape and crown.
• Ennoshita (AND Kinoshita AND NARITA!!) do the “SE〜NO” synchronized clap with the audience (and it made me so so SOOOO happy!!)
Review:
Overall, this production seemed less “dramatic” in the sense that the entire performance (the acting, music, and choreo/blocking) felt very subdued compared to its predecessor. There was certainly a different energy in the theater this time around. My blood didn’t get pumping the same way it did when I saw Start of the Giant and The Tokyo Battle in-person. I believe this artistic direction was intentional. I’m just not sure it’s sustainable.
What I always appreciated the most about Engeki was that the stage performances perfectly matched the high levels of energy the anime possessed. In fact, I would argue it brought even MORE energy than the anime did or ever could in large part due to Wada Shunsuke’s memorable musical compositions and HIDALI’s ingenious choreo.
Music and dance have always been core elements of the OG Haisute to the point that each show had it’s own unique opening/closing sequence, each team had it’s own musical and dance motif, and certain reoccurring events had their own identifiable themes (e.g. the starting lineup before any given match). The true magic of Engeki lied in the music and dancing. Obviously, the cast brought their own magic by always giving 150% to their performances, but they were also matching the energy the music brought THROUGH their dancing/acrobatics. It’s all intricately woven together.
OH, not to mention the original production’s partial namesake: the projections! There was always a level of suspended reality when watching Engeki because the light projections literally helped to merge the manga with the stage. They transformed the stage and backdrop into anything and everything the story needed—manga panels, speech bubbles, a sunset, a volleyball net. They also synced with, you guessed it, the MUSIC to give an absolutely outstanding audio-visual experience.
It really hit me hard when I entered the theater to see that it really was… just a regular stage.
That’s why I question if this production (and any future ones they may have planned) is sustainable. Not in the financial sense… but just in the way of retaining interest. It didn’t get me hooked the same way Engeki did, so I don’t think I’m able to give it the same level of enthusiasm. I’m hard-pressed to believe others feel the same way. Don’t get me wrong—I enjoyed it. It wasn’t bad. It didn’t take anything away from the series… I’m just not sure it added anything to it, either. Sure, there was music and dancing, but it just paled in comparison to what we were gifted by Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu. Makes me wonder why they would take so many steps back with this production.
All that being said… I’m glad I went. I truly did enjoy myself and the cast put their all into these characters. And if nothing else, I’m glad to have gone in support of Suga Kenta (OG Hinata) in his Haisute directorial debut.

Double Edged Words
Based on a true story from Thanksgiving

I am sitting in for Thanksgiving night dinner at exactly at eight a loud ping comes in when I receive a text from a former friend of mine who recently apologized to me for some actions and I reluctantly forgave him the biggest mistake of my lives since that whole family is full of assholes
He jokes to me I am like a dry turkey then he goes on bashing me with way too many more food scenarios as a joke so I am really not in the mood the next day to deal with him or anybody on my first red carpet event let alone his parents.
His father who I see is completely dressed to the nines for the first time he usually is a mess walking the red carpet with his hand waving at me as I roll my eyes and offer my hand to shake but instead I wake up from my day dream.
I sigh a bit later in the bathroom after the ending of the premiere he blocks me in the bathroom placing his hand on my shoulder as I realize it is him then think for a second I have my chance.
He wants to take a selfie with me but I get a bit giddy letting him set up the flash I say to him I’ll do it but the light start to flicker and I am annoyed but move on asking him if he could see into the frame.
He stares deep into the light as the lights of flash blind him on and off leaving me with perfect excuse to put him under by using the camera to take a picture of him I begin to play with his mind.
He freezes on command at a stance unable to move except to blink allowing me some time to formulate a plan so wicked I might lose myself in it but I carefully concoct until the minute his eyes pop open.
He comes to life stretching his hands in the air, yawning so loud it would scare the ghost of the hand any and never noticing me I do stop and play with his hair but he does not even react.
“You can’t seem me, you hear my voice the voice of reason.”
“You did not treat your son’s friend Lawrence right you have to pay the piper.”
“No need to speak, their is only one think you can do.”
“You need to pay for your issues”
“You can start by being his slave “
“Kneel at his feet and kiss it”
“Know you are his property”
“Love him, love for him “
“Obey all his commands”
“Boom”
“Huh! Hey! What happened?”
“Oh Master! How can I please you?”

His eldest son Robbie is in hell seeing his old man doing something so out of character as he stands on stage looking like a damn ass fool and doing as his ex pal say like in a Hypnosis show.
Unfortunately for him the music starts to hit playing a beat he cannot stop it raises into the threshold of the roof he starts to do a very stupid dance consuming him loosing it in into a stream of insanity.
“Join us Robbie follow everything your father does.”
“Oh Master! How can I please you?”“Hope Everyone! Pay Attention Please” I say to the crowd.
“Meet my pal Jon! He is a asshole”
“Yes! I am the worst type”
“Hahahaha” the crowd erupts
“A real monkey! This one”
“Enter the audience while I sing”
“To all you fuckers who I hate “
“Let me play you a song “
“Ooooohhhhhh! Yyyeeeaaaahhh”
“I bet you think you won, like a dagger plunge into my soul”
“Killing me on site…lalalala “
“No such luck and I am here to fight “
