something i really do love about weekly releases for episodes is that once an episode has aired, there’s immediately different fanfics written on how people think the next episode will go.

it’s something i don’t think is quite allowed for shows that release all at once, because all of the material is just given to you.

with weekly releases we can speculate on the shooting, the tsunami, the cruise ship, buck coming out, any near-death experience… endless amounts of opportunities for the most unique (and sometimes better than canon) plot lines.

i will forever be thankful for weekly releases.

Let's recap, every participant performances :

S1 : departure of Abby, his first real love. He technically has no family around.

S2 : almost killed by a bomb. Might never work again. His girlfriend seems wary of his job

S3 : Abby is back, she's engaged! He gets closure though

S4 : a sniper shot Eddie in front of him, then Bobby got shot, but Hey! He now has a reason to not sacrifice himself!

S5 : the whole season is unhappiness for basically everyone sooo... But in the end, everyone seems to be doing BETTER! (Chimney almost got killed 🤫), and Buck got 'betrayed' by his girlfriend, so she's not his girlfriend anymore✨

S6: Everyone almost died on the bridge, but other than that... Buck's got a new girlfriend!

S7: Buck's got a boyfriend! BUT Bobby almost died and isn't captain anymore, Gerrard is captain, Christopher just left for Texas...

Truly just paused in my tracks because my brain had A Thought, and that Thought is Marcus Sköld (from young royals) and Tommy Kinard (from 9-1-1) give off the same vibes. Granted, they both have very little screen time in their respective shows. They’re dismissive of their partner’s signals and verbal requests (Simon not wanting anything serious with ANYONE post-video/breakup with Wille, Buck talking about his struggle with Bobby’s near death experience while Tommy makes a daddy joke). They’re both so clearly plot devices for a different endgame ship (Wilmon, Buddie), but a few wild corners of each fandom started shipping them with their temporary love interests anyway. They don’t fit in with their partner’s inner circle (we barely ever see Marcus interact with anyone besides Simon, Tommy has bad blood with basically Buck’s entire family that knew him before the two of them met). They’re willing to take shots at their partner when they feel like they’ve been done dirty (Marcus during the ENTIRE breakup scene with Simon at the stables, Tommy making a closet joke and almost outing Buck to Eddie and Marisol bc Buck didn’t cop to being on a date the first chance he got). Neither are genuinely trying to connect to their partner, or if they are, it’s done with a marginal amount of effort (Marcus coming to the dance at Hillerska, but later berating Simon for not appreciating this effort taken enough, Tommy coming to the bachelor party for Chimney that Buck plans, but without an actual costume, and leaving as soon as everyone decides Chimney’s a no-show…unlike Eddie, who sticks by Buck’s side for literally the rest of the night).

I’m just not sure I can trust you” again in regards to letting her see Christopher in season 2 and then we get Eddie telling Buck at the beginning on season 3 (with yk the hand on the shoulder and the eye contact on full force) “Buck, there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you”

LIKE INSANITY!!! Again the parallels with the word choice coming from Eddie and the amount of trust that Eddie places on Buck from the very first day of them becoming friends and him becoming an important person in not only his life, but Christopher’s life as well

So, I used my 9-1-1 timeline to make a timeline of Buck's life so far!

Please know that I may be a month or two out in some situations - I had to make some assumptions here and there and the 9-1-1 timeline is also just.. interesting at times (lmao). If you have any questions feel free to ask!

(Also sorry if I missed anything/made any mistakes, I tried to include everything and have checked it over many times but I know that as soon as I post it, I’m bound to notice something I did wrong rip)

Alright honest opinion time:

I’m excited for canon Buddie, but why does it have to be progressing with such a bad season so far? Like I think back to seasons 2-4 and that was not just peak Buddie, but peak seasons in general.

The show has become so unexciting to me recently that it feels like a struggle to get through it and feels like I’m only fighting through it for Buddie crumbs.

I’m not going to give up on the show, but I think they really need to step up their game. They need to revisit seasons 2, 3, 4 and understand why they worked so well and why this one hasn’t been so far.

The storylines, the pacing, the character interactions, the cohesion… I just miss the vibe of the old seasons and I sincerely hope the second half of this season is better. Genuinely.
