Sea Moss
I make my own sea moss gel, currently have a glass jar covered with cheesecloth in the fridge, and small cubes of sea moss in freezer. Sea moss last up to five weeks in the fridge, but can last three to six months in the freezer. I once forgot I had a few more frozen sea moss cubes in the freezer and even eight months later they were still good, however I do not recommend using them after six months (disclaimer). Note: make sea moss into a gel before eating it or before freezing it.
Dried untreated (not yet turned into a gel) sea moss can last one year as long as it is in a cool dry secure place.
I began eating sea moss since the pandemic, and I believe sea moss was one of the natural treatments I use that helped to keep me healthy, I never had the pandemic illness, and never became sick during that period…lucky me, or was it the help of sea moss, ginger, and other natural healers…maybe.
My Mom was first surprised I asked her about sea moss, she said I didn't like it when I was young. We are Jamaicans and our island culture has used sea moss for hundreds of years, perhaps longer (the Natives way before invasions). Well I was young back then and sea moss is an acquired taste. And now, even some of the elders in my family ask me how to make sea moss, and I told them, and I sometimes give a jar of sea moss to my sister.
I use just a teaspoon of sea moss gel every now and then. It is recommended not to over use sea moss because it contains lots of iodine, however because it has 92 of the 102 minerals the human body needs, sea moss I believe is a must for good health. If you do not use sea moss that often, go ahead and put a table spoon in your meals or smoothies. If you use sea moss daily, I recommend using only a teaspoon every day. If you will make different food dishes using sea moss in one day, perhaps use less than a teaspoon of sea moss for each meal or drink.
I put sea moss in my soup, it's good for thickening soup, in my veggies, smoothies, tea, or just put a spoonful in my mouth. I do not use sea moss every day, that's why I freeze most of it.
Please note, if you use frozen sea moss and are blending it, heat the frozen sea moss a bit with filtered or distilled water to soften it before putting the sea moss in the blender, frozen sea moss is super dense and may break a blender blade.
Years ago I made a mega long post about sea moss which proved way popular, so I will not go into extreme detail about sea moss. I think I deleted that previous post, not sure, that was about five years ago.
Before going to any place where I am in a closed space with many people, I take sea moss, and also use ginger. Everything natural and organic.
Sea moss is a tricky product, it is a type of seaweed, a sea vegetable. Caribbeans were the people who mainly used sea moss and never (or at least rarely) before did they bottle it up and sold it in gel form because it can quickly go bad, only ever saw the salted dried sea moss in the green market, and Caribbeans make their own sea moss gel at home. Otherwise, Caribbeans, mostly Jamaicans make a drink that has sea moss in it called Irish moss (you can look up 'Jamaican style Irish moss ingredients' for more information on that drink).
Because of the pandemic, the rest of the world found out about sea moss and now it is being sold in so many forms. This makes me question how clean are such products and how can they make money if the sea moss goes bad in five weeks. Making it, then holding it to be shipped, then shipping it, then stocking it on the shelves. How long is the sea moss on the shelves, maybe someone buys it and there is only a few days or a week left to use it.
Yes I'm being a skeptic, but I guess just like some things have an expiration date so does store bought sea moss, but seriously, sea moss takes effort and time to make, especially if you want a clean and healthy product, and sea moss gel must have a way to breath, that's why cheesecloth is recommended to cover the sea moss in a glass jar. Also only glass can the sea moss be stored in, and sea moss does not like any other type of substance touching it, such as storing it in a non-glass jar.
For now I make my own sea moss. Since it became popular the product has drastically increased in price. It is the most inexpensive at certain green markets. Despite a bum knee which can sometimes be painful, I will trek to the green grocery just to get the dried sea moss, not only is it cheaper, the green market dried sea moss is more trustworthy to be natural and not grown under suspicious conditions.
In the past all sea moss use to truly come from the sea, but with the drastic global increase of interest in sea moss, a lot of the sea moss is not naturally grown. To the green market I will go to get the natural product.
To Your Good Health.
Everything in this post in my raw authentic opinion.

Disclaimer: Sea moss gel can last three to four to five weeks in the fridge. My sea moss gel is still good up to five weeks in the fridge, but I would not risk using it after five weeks, even if it seems like it is still fresh.
Sea moss frozen gel can last three months to four months and up to six months in the freezer, some even declare up to one year. Use how many months at your discretion. The standard these days is up to six months to keep frozen sea moss gel.

Sea moss was in the Caribbean and used by Natives of the Caribbean for centuries.

Odd: I don't know why I thought sea moss was not a vegetable or an animal, thinking it is one of those in between species like corals (note, decades ago corals were not considered animals or vegetables, but now they are considered animals), sea moss is a type of algae, a seaweed. Also sea moss is not a moss, only named moss because of how it grows on rocks like land moss, but in the water. I really think they should rename this species. Sea algae weed, seaweed algae, reddish seaweed, weed mossy sea algae, something like that. Maybe boss weed, boss seaweed, mineral seaweed. The boss and also mineral because of how nutrient rich it is. Boss mineral seaweed. Sea Boss, instead of Sea Moss.
