Quartz and Sea Glass

"Quartz is best 'ta channel the energy of a mother, for Mother Gaia," Tess explained. "Glass shaped by the sea is best for a father's energy, for all life was fathered by the sea." We were silent for a while, just staring at each other. The only sound was the soft cooing Surinder made in her sleep. "We want 'ya 'ta be a part of this family, Fawn," Tess said. "We've put a part of our essence into these crystals. Our joy, our love, our gratitude. So, whenever 'ya wear 'em, we'll be with 'ya."

Context:

Fawn is a 20-year-old woman left homeless after fleeing an abusive relationship while pregnant. A year ago, her situation forced her to give up the baby she ran away to save -- and she hasn't really been the same since. In the hope to solve her financial woes, Fawn decides to apply for gestational surrogacy. The Tariqs, the couple she decides to carry for, end up being much more than her clients. The three become fast friends, and they grow closer to each other throughout the pregnancy. Fawn prepares to give them their daughter, and the Tariqs prepare to give her something in return.
