AuDHD Quote
Quote: "I think with emotions, and I feel with thoughts."
-Joris Lechêne
As someone with AuDHD, I relate to this quote to an embarrassing degree.
First clause: I have strong emotional empathy. I can sense someone's emotions even if they're trying to keep them hidden from me. I will feel their emotions so intensely that it overwhelms me. The problem comes in that I don't know what to do to help the person in need, for I lack cognitive empathy. I also don't know how to go about helping the person in need, for I lack compassionate empathy as well.
This translates to my thoughts. They're always emotionally charged, even when I try to analyze a problem logically and rationally.
Second clause: I have alexithymia, and it's hard for me to process internally how I feel at any given moment. In order to figure out how I'm feeling, I have to analyze physical changes, recall recent events that may have impacted me, and draw upon past experiences. After some thought, I will come to a conclusion as to how I'm feeling. Sometimes the conclusion is correct, but other times, it's completely wrong.
Usually, my madre knows more about how I'm feeling by simply looking at me than I do myself.
Well, that's all I have for today. Until next time, take care and stay curious.

the sci guys will be forever famous to me for being two(formerly three) cisgender men who have done multiple podcast episodes on transgender topics and did a better job than even other trans folk sometimes. also for doing episodes on aromanticism, asexuality, intersex conditions like pcos, and always trying to bring on guests with those experiences to bring them into the conversation.

Still thinking about that time I sat down to watch a podcast episode (from the Sci Guys) about the science of prisons. I was ready to hear the same facts about how corrupt the justice system is and how bad solitary confinement is for mental health. The stuff I already knew.
And then they started talking about the mental effects (or lack thereof) of punishment.
And now, because of a single podcast episode, I’m forever wondering if we should even be punishing people when rehabilitation is the more effective and humane alternative.
Wtf man?
