so i was thinking (in light of my recent comic) about how xigbar is, in fact, disabled. and how it'd be interesting to explore the consequences of that. so i started looking into what it's like to live with monocular vision, what the challenges are, how to cope with them.

and i noticed something, in one of the articles i read.

and that made something click for me.

there are quite a few differences between the braig and xigbar models. some are more subtle than others. there's one i'd always chalked up to a difference in age or level of activity. but no.

And like, I didn't do anything genuinely bad- I've never said slurs online, or groomed anyone, or did anything morally dubious- I just... acted fucking weird. I've had five online friend groups in my lifetime. Not to mention how I didn't go by any alternative name and some people out there know my FULL FUCKING NAME and HAVE SEEN MY FACE!

Look, as someone who's been on the internet since 2019 (the worst mistake I have ever made), I really think that minors (or anyone really) shouldn't use their legal name or show their face or say their age on here. Literally go by anything else. Call yourself rat, or leaf, or squeaky, or fucking... bow and arrow for all I care- just PLEASE GOD do not make my mistake and do not surround yourself with too many online friend groups or put any information about yourself out there.

You said you just learned about the character files, but did you know that Xigbar actually has 2? The one you posted thats in the book, and one that was used as a preview for it which is slightly different.

i saw the preview while i was looking up information about his character file! i disregarded it at the time because i went on kind of a wild goose chase looking for the source for it before deciding it wasn't worth it to find cut content from non-canon materials—but im taking a look at it again now :]

ultimately anything that isnt in the games is just toys and fun to me, i don't take it as canon—like, i don't feel it's worth my time to speculate on why it was changed, like whether it Revealed Too Much or The Plan Was Changed or whatever—but i do still think both versions of his story could be informative, at least. like, the writer had to have been given some indication of characterization and plot direction, that kinda thing.

for that reason it's interesting to me that the preview version of the story seems to end on the note of xigbar being doubtful of his Master and of whether his role is "the right thing". in my opinion luxu's had a few redemption arc/face turn flags throughout the games, so i'm intrigued by the emphasis the preview version of his story puts on him potentially having a change of heart! to me, though, it's less "this is confirmation that he Will have a redemption arc" and more "this suggests that i may be right about the games hinting at a redemption arc".

i guess to put it another way, i feel that the character files stories don't reveal new canon information, but rather that they put a little more light and focus on things that already exist in canon, if that makes sense.
