We got an explanation at the second half of the Mystic flour update and we'll most likely get a reason for Burning Spice eventually. In fact, there's already evidence that burning spice is hiding something behind that manic warrior exterior.

The main reason I send you this ask is to see what would you do if you were writing for burning spice and or what you're hoping for burning spices character, You're a very great of person and I would really like to see what you come up with if anything.

Before the 5th beast yeast ep, I saw him as a like … Really kind of direct parallel or mirror to golden cheese

He’s shown to really value a fun or thrilling fight and grows angry when its far too easy — so I sort of used that and came up with the basic idea of;

His corruption came from basically what that post of yours was saying — he realizes his immortality and grows bored of it and sees the cons of it and whatnot, but also ends up seeking new things that make him feel something new or unique

Which, I think, what would make him destroy his first kingdom; his very own

He wanted a new feeling, just being praised and loved was nice but he didn’t really feel anything for it

so what better than striking fear into people? what better than making them worship you — but out of FEAR? It’s a BRAND new feeling, and one that he couldn’t get enough of

I’m not very sure how i’d interpret the whole destroying-self thing yet, as beforehand I more saw his actions eventually leading to the destruction of himself, but he didn’t realize that

Soo can we talk about the fact that after the meeting with Sunday, Ratio immediately asks if Aven is okay. Like my dude, you're still in the dream and are being watched, that's not how someone who just 'betrayed' another person  acts.

Also, Aven being the one who has to subtly correct Ratio (at least thats the interpretation im going with) reminding him that they still have to act like they hate each other. (They're both geniuses in completely different ways, textbook definition of book smarts vs streets smarts)

ALSO, dispite that slip up from Ratio, Aven still doubting whether Ratio was acting or not (someone get this man a hug and some therapy I swear)

Anyways, I love these 2 idiots, and I hope we get to see more of their dynamic, specifically outside Penacony, bc I suspect most of what we saw was an act to trick The Family, and their actual dynamic hasn't been shown that much

its in ratios nature to be so harsh and not filtering, its just ratio

while all that happened was aventurine and ratio acting and fooling everyone, i dont think much in their dynamic would change outside of it. ratio is harsh and sarcastic and angry and loud etcetc (not out of malice) but he does care at the same time so i see him keep up his usual ratio-typical behavior towards aventurine - altho softening, toning it down, especially when aventurine is clearly suffering/behaving differently than you usually see him (like when he asked him if hes okay or when he thought he offended him) but other times harsh as usual, maybe even more aggressive when aventurine does get under his skin what a tsundere

(also, when you pair him with aventurine, he says (in his usual harsh way) "take care of yourself, i dont need your concern" - i think this shows really nicely how his dynamic/feelings toward aventurine are - harsh and caring in the same breath, aventurine is self destructive after all)

anw yea ig i derailed a bit sorry. i think ratio raised his usual behavior by some lvls than he would usually treat aventurine to not raise suspicions, trying to come off like he doesnt care and like aventurine is an unpleasant annoyance

the cutscene where aventurine is about lie and sentence himself? the look ratio gives him?

when aventurine is about to open the box that will expose his lie and he looks up to catch ratios gaze before he turns away ?

maybe im thinking too much into it, theres also prob different ways to interpret this but their lingering gazes, like a silent exchange between them underneath that act and ratio turning away when he gets his answer-

and yea like u mentioned ratios acting, his behavior towards aventurine, being so good that even aventurine is doubting if its an act or his true feelings towards him (giving him that hug myself!!!!!!)

Wow this entire section HURTS. Not only does it refer to Grian's broken promises 'Ill do better, I wont make another one, Ill be a better friend', but also to the constant battle against his nature. Ill feel better after this prank, after MCC, after a life game. And it NEVER working. The combination of these things, the belief that the life and relationships Grian's built are like a stump rotting away from the inside out until it's hollow and empty, a one-sided and meaningless promise that he can never keep no matter how hard he tries.

I REALLY love the "matchbox" metaphor. Every word out of his mouth has the chance to start a blaze. The promises he could never keep, to Pearl, about the games and feeding on his friends. His words are destructive, they are meaningless and will only end up hurting everyone he's ever cared about. Sure, he can try to keep it "clean", but what does that even entail? AND, the part about it "costing him"-- he knows what his friends feel and whether they believe him or not. There is the knowledge that he will have to betray their hope, as well as as Grian's belief that that IS the better option.

Wouaghkdh the finality of this line. The weight within that pause. How it somehow both foreshadows his suicide attempt with the break between "Grian" and "breathes", and the very continuation of this line insinuating the continuation of his life.

The brief "starburst" of hope from Mumbo AHH. The false belief that Grian wants to or will try to get better, and the way Grian can taste his hope, and KNOWS it's misplaced. The way it's Grian's words that cause this hope, the "burn[]" and "blisters" calling back to the "matchbox" metaphor!!!!

Also your constant referral to foods and taste like "sugar-cinnamon", "spun-sugar", "balanced between precarious teeth", idk if it's correct to call it an extended metaphor considering its allusions to how Grian eats but i really enjoy it.

[💫] <- the link!! Ok theres a few things that really get me with this. For starters, theres the obvious: after Mumbo leaves Grian will have to confront his choice. He has been allowed to ignore it (somewhat) until now, in the immediate hours following stealing the spiders eyes, he has had a distraction. After Mumbo leaves, his fate is sealed. Now, with that theres the underlying guilt and fear (Mumbo moving into the "lightless threshold" is a Bad Thing, and is a metaphor for death in itself, just channelled through Mumbo). Lastly, it kind of reminds me of that frame of mind you get into when youre in this state; the way you start to belief that killing yourself will be better for your loved ones, because you wont be able to hurt them. It's interesting to me how in a sense, this mentality sort of palms off responsibility? If that makes sense? As in, inflicting your beliefs about yourself into those around you, because it gives that negative spiral a substance higher than yourself. In that way, I can see how Grian would see Mumbo leaving the room as a kind of 'permission,' for lack of a better word.

Theres an interesting juxtaposition here between the artificial lamplight and natural sunlight. In terms of the latter, I imagine that in the light of the last ever morning he gets to see, his choice seems far more real.

Man this is one hell of a closing line. I am in distress!! There are two layers of this line to me: the first is the continued thread of Grian's frenzied glee at getting to die where the sun rising = the final day he will have to live. The second one is the emotion that undercuts that. The fear and horror of simply ending. In that sense, this line feels along the lines of not taking any living moment for granted. Yes, he wants to die, but he gets to see the sun one last time, who wouldn't be grateful for that?

GODS!!!! WE ARE SO BACK, SUN ANON YOU NEVER MISS!!!!! This is so crazy gratifying to see you pick apart my work and unravel all the careful choices ive made-- im so so SO pleased you caught the way all those death metaphors are being channeled THROUGH Grian's perception of Mumbo here!!!! In a meta sense, it really is a way of palming off the responsibility of his own death-- he absolutely viewed Mumbo leaving as both permission and proof that he can go along with his plan. Sort of a last confirmation, almost, even subconsciously.

Gods i have so many thoughts about the "And Grian— / — breathes" line and i think whats funniest about it is that this was one of the last changes i made to the chapter!!! I think i mentioned in a previous ask about how i struggled hard with that paragraph but once i put those em dashes down, it just all slotted together so perfectly. There really is something about the finality of it, about how this is Grian letting go and Mumbo cant even see it because of how both Grian, the unfamiliar situation, and Mumbo's own lowkey willful ignorance have so thoroughly masked it. Im really glad you liked my choice there, and im utterly enamoured with what youve said about the foreshadowing!!! I'll admit that wasnt intentional, but now that youve said it i CANNOT stop thinking about it and the symbolism of it all AUGH

The lamplight vs daylight motif here is, to me, really all about how things done at night just feel so much more ephemeral than when theyre done in the light of day. Like its almost easier to maintain some distance, when its night-- theres a ready made buffer RIGHT THERE in the form of darkness, and that makes everything feel liminal, detached, without true weight. How many stories involve doing something impulsive in the middle of the night, or the very very early morning?? I feel like if we sat down and really counted, that concept would pop up a lot more than any of us would expect.

And in direct contrast to that, the sun just burns false pretenses away. Things feel more concrete, have more weight to them, have immediate and visible consequences. Im unsure of how directly this came across, but i very deliberately started stripping Grian's facade down as the sun rose-- the fact that he only truly admitted what hes going to do in such plain language to himself when the sun was fully blazing through his window was not an accident >:]

tbh, a lot of my writing is linked to portrayals of light-- i use it pretty shamelessly to set mood and to carry intentions across without directly stating them. I think one of my fave sentences is about how the light turned "matte, steely blue" at one point, during the conversation where Mumbo is saying he has to leave. Its a deliberate transition point both narratively, metaphorically, AND physically-- and its when you really see Grian start to think hard about what hes doing here. IDK I JUST HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS AKDJWKDNWKEK i love love love the transitive properties of illumination in narration and what it can do to a scene on so many levels SDJFBEKJDJS

Ah im being visited by the ghost of Hyperfixations past. I'm giving a warning that the art here is older, some more so then others.

SO I had a few characters.

But my main oc who I've had since i was like 13 is Eliana. She's changed a lot over the years. I was, suffice to say, pretty obsessed with her for quite awhile.

She was my main PC for Skyrim, and she primarily did the Dragonborn stuff alongside Dawnguard and the like [i split up the different plotlines among different characters]. She's a battlemage, uses a combination of fire magic and sword work, and tends to wear more lighter armor for dexeterity based moves. Originally from Hammerfell, she came to Skyrim on a rather personal mission before, yknow, all hells broke loose and oh boy! Suddenly you're expected to save the world and also you're not entierly mortal, have fun with that.

(Also fun fact, while obviouslly not by name in universe, she has type 2 waardenburg syndrome, which is why her eyes are discoloured + has hearing loss)

El's generally a pretty friendly and sweet girl, but she very much tends to get caught up in her own head, and struggles a lot with the balance between power and responbility, and uh, quite a lot of ptsd and stress by the end of it. theres a lot more but uh, we would be here forever lmao.

and uh. i guess ill give a brief overview of the others under the cut. I had vague ideas of a lot of them exisiting in the timeline and their interactions overlapping.

Laymus is an imperial who originally grew up on a farm with a lot of siblings. He struck out on his own in hopes of taking a stronger control of his own life, and because there wasn't really much for him there. Primarily a hunter, Laymus had an unfortunate encounter with a werewolf... which, left a substiantial impact on his being. He specializes in archery and fighting from a distance... at least, most of the time. [yea he's a werewolf lol. i was gonna do the companions quest with him but never got around to it. i usually play as him when im playing with survival mods, its very fun. he was also one of my earliest forays into having a transmasc oc ]

Faelynn is a bosmer, but was actually raised in Cyrodiil by her adoptive father, who ran a tavern there. She is considerbly older then some of my other characters, and long since outliver her human parent. She had a fascination in poisons from a young age, and after an... incident, became far more invested in them. She is the character I play through the dark brotherhood with, specializes in daggers and poison, alongside alchemy.

Erion is an aldermi character of mine, someone who's family has ties to the thalmor, an area of which he does not connect to. He has a rather.... unfortunately complicated history with his family, that was made all the more interesting by an encounter with Nocturnal at a young age...

He focuses on shadowy skills, a master of sneaking and not being seen when he doesn't want to be. He is the one i do the thieves guild questline with.

Adra is a dunmer, and grew up with a particularly strong set of daedra worshippers, which, suffice to say, has some complications with her background. She vaguely remembers her mother, but has little concept of who her father could even have been. She struggles a lot with self esteem and has a tendancy towards jealousy of those she percieves as doing better then her.

She specializes as a mage, primarily in destruction magic, with a knack for electricity and lightning. She is a student at the college of winterhold.

and that covers the main ones! Or, at least the ones i play the game with anyway. Honourable mentions are Valia and Ashanta, who are Eliana's mothers.

These two met during the battles between Hammerfell and the Aldmeri Dominion, of which Ashanta was a warrior on Hammerfell's side, and Valia was a healer of whom defected, their paths crossing. Its quite a tale in and off itself!

Valia died prior to the start of skyrim.......... the aldmeri are particularly kind to defectors, we shall say.

And then i have a few others. Anja is a nord background character concept I made, who runs a bakery in Riverwood [inspired by me learning about the history of bread making and the important of a baker in a town]. She also ends up adopting some of the orphans in the game lol. Allian is my oblivion character who wasnt ever super developed, i should get back to that... he's an imperial, and is actually Laymus' uncle.

I'm pretty sure I have a few more somewhere but uh. yea! thats the base up of it. hope you were prepared for my great overview XD XD

Except it’s Two-Bit snapping at Tim after Tim had been through a particularly rough fight. A fight that made Two-Bit remember that Tim really is a gang leader. That he does dangerous things to survive the way Dallas did. The memory of it just making Two snap and breaking them out of their blissful peace. Because it’s a painful reminder of the possibility of them dying young,stupid, and as greasers.

Tim SNAPPING at Two, after Two did something dangerous. Like Dallas level of dangerous. And it makes Tim understand that Two and Dallas are so similar and just so self destructive. But Two’s destruction scares him because Two won’t fade away like Dallas. He doesn’t want to see the world burn. He wants to see himself burn. And somehow that thought is a much more scarier one to him.

- flint, holly and ben are friends. a chum of mine pointed out their potential, given flint likes drama, ben spreads drama and holly starts drama ^__^ theyd be at a mall and watch people from the corner before sending holly out to start something for shits and giggles

- william and alton are sooo straightman funnyman duo to me. i think usual conversations between them consist of alton rambling on and on to say something so small in five hundred words, with william responding bluntly in two

- big love for brubuck but i need it to be said that dave and buck are goofy and best friends before theyre lovers. as in theyd do dumb shit together and they are the best of friends while being in love is more of a byproduct. i mean of course theyre in love. they broke the space time continuum to be together as high roller. if thats not love i dont know what is

- dana and tawney speak regularly now! i remember reading somewhere that dana was the host of suitopia fm, tawney’s favorite radio show. originally dana saw tawney as just a fan, but after some time theyre mutually pretty close!

- theres not much to basis this one off of, but i think itd be neat if buck ruffler and buck wilde were acquainted in some way. nothing much, usually just light hearted conversations between the two. usually ruffler getting wilde to speak more, in which wilde appreciates

- chip and spruce are soo. so important to me. this is less of a headcanon given the fact their friendship is canon, but i like to hope that they still close regardless of anything. no matter what chip is trudging through, spruce is stubborn enough to stay at his side. its sad spruce is unaware of the override, though ..

- alton and spruce are friends to me. they deserves to wreck destruction and laugh unintelligibly at eachother. mary hates both of them Deeply due to harming the ecosystem

Girlybro theres this post and it reminded me sm of leander! Its by frankiecorleone and it says ‘an ouroboros is the opposite of a pearl’ and jejdjdjejdjs i looked up pearl symbolism and its associated with the moon(goddess) but also with marriage. In relation with the ouroboros, a pearl is basically a hard core made by a cycle of creation right? Something that entered a shell by accident gets covered by many many layers,, which is like an outward creation instead of a self-negating and creating one.

(This is me just going off like a madman btw)

SO theres this lyric in bjork’s atopos that goes like ‘If we don't grow outwards towards love

If theres no particular reason as to why your in such state, then he reassures you that it's okay.

Of you need silence, he'll give you that, need something to put your mind off of it? He can do that also.

If you ever get a panic attack he would hug you if near by or would calm you down via ear piece if he's far.

Whatever you need he will try his best to help, for thats his job as a handler.

Probably the first time he's had to help you with it.

Man is a bit crazed so forgive him for not seeing the signs earlier.

Assuming that you dont mind bees or even might like them considering weather you work or date him. He would get a couple of his bees to swarm you but not harm you in hopes to calm you down with the sound of buzzing.

Would probably bring honey flavored things to you to sheer you up.

Need a distraction, he will talk about the beuty of the bees.

If you get a Panic attack he would be extremely worried. Like get his bees away from you (for the safety of both) and will panic a bit calling out for you. Maybe think your sick or poisoned.

Once he realizes he might call doctor zor for help since he's the closest to a medical profecional.

In the end hes hugging you on the floor affirming you.

first of all, i see your point, and this confuses me a lot too. but after watching the movie 13 times and thinking about it 24/7, i have literally no idea how that universe collapsed. i mean, if it collapsed because there were two miguels in the same universe, why didnt miles' universe collapse too, since in itsv there were 4 peters in 1610? (peter b, noir, porker and the blond dead one). they were there for a while, and the only time that the dimension almost collapsed was when kingpin activated the collider. i have some theories, but i havent looked into it a lot;

theres also metarthur which is my very very beloved longtime rarepair. which i um. uh. ahahahah............. i get very slightly nervous talking about on main because a lot of people hc arthur as meta knights dad or parental figure but i shouldnt be nervous about hc differences really....... anyways theyre supposed to be like parallels of each other. people who are opposites thematically (arthur being leader of the gsa; mk being a former deeply infamous demon beast) who find themselves in similar positions in that they both kinda struggle with their sense of purpose vs their sense of self. meta knight sees his past struggles in arthur and so he finds himself drawn to him. he cant really Solve his situation, but (during their war-time relationship specifically) he hopes to offer some solace to him which functions as a form of catharsis to mk himself too. the two get to connect and understand each other in a unique way. i wont get too into this one right now either lol since the dynamic changes a lot depending on if its their during-war relationship or post-war relationship but theres the basics. i have a comic expanding on their general relationship in my drafts too but its at the bottom of my to-do list tbh. maybe someday though

Ok ive taken a couple of days to have a think and give you a proper answer.

In short, because it's lazy and lets the writers avoid having to write loki with any consistent character traits.

Long answer below the cut

I have a lot of semi connected thoughts about this and this post might end up a bit of a ramble, uh so sorry i guess.

I think it's important to remember that loki as a marvel character has existed since the 1960s, and thus has 60 or so years of characterisation already there. Over the years this has varied a bit due to many different writers and their different visions for their stories, but they tend to stay fairly consistent. Loki is a villian (or is perceived as one by others), he plans elaborate schemes usually with the end goal of the destruction of asgard and/or thor, and he tends to play the long game. In short, he's been consistently characterised as a much more methodical and yes, cerebral character than thor.

In addition, theres 11 years of specifically mcu loki characterisation, which was originally constructed from the loki we see in the comics. This is the baseline of mcu lokis character, and thus should still be there in other stories and adaptations.

What's actually interesting to me though, is that loki HAS been shown as a man of action before. In Thor 2011. Specifically at the end of the movie, after his entire life has fallen apart at the seams and he's in the middle of an emotional breakdown. His actions get more impulsive as the movie progresses, and it ends with him trying to destroy Jotunheim, goading thor into an argument and a huge fight, then letting go of the bifrost and falling to his assumed death.

What makes this work and still feel in character is that lokis impulsive and reckless desicions come from his emotional instability. The viewer gets to see his facade break and watch him deteriorate from slowly and meticulously planning to ruin thors coronation and stop him from taking the throne, to deciding on the spur of the moment to point the bifrost at Jotunheim and, afterwards, decide to let go of gungnir and plummet into the void (i love this movie so much can you tell).

All of this really is to say that loki CAN be reckless and impulsive just like thor. It just has to be well written and considered. And season one of the show very much was Not That.

With the gift of hindsight, it's been very clear that the writers of season one were not interested in maintaining any of lokis previous characterisation and, given what we've seen so far in the trailer, im not exactly holding out hope that season two will be any different.

The last thing i wanna mention is that the way you phrased your ask, with loki deciding himself to become less cautious, is quite interesting to me. Im sure you dont need me to tell you that loki isnt real, hes a fictional character and thus has no autonomy of his own. Every thought, word and action was a deliberate decision from the writers and actors creating these stories (often with their own preconceptions and biases of the character subconsciously thrown in). What im trying to get at is that ultimately, loki as a character is a vehicle for telling an aspect of a story. And it's the writers job to tell that story well. And if loki suddenly has a change of heart and decides to start acting the complete opposite of his former self, the writers should have a damn good reason for choosing to do that. Otherwise, it's just poorly written. And frankly i dont want to watch a poorly written show.
