The La Sayona
America is the melting pot of the world. For over 13,000 years, people have migrated to this land, and their ghosts have migrated with them. A sliver of moon, sharp as a curved blade, hung in the Illinois sky. Its pale glow washed over the deserted highway below. The September wind raced through the cornfields, causing the withered stalks to sway and groan. In the distance, the sea of corn…

La Sayona
La Sayona is a legend from Venezuela, represented by the vengeful spirit of a woman that shows up only to men that have love affairs out of their marriages. The name "Sayona" refers to the cloth the ghost wears which is a long white dress similar to a medieval undergarment.
The legend claims that when this woman appears she asks for a ride, and after a while when the victim tries to see her face, he notices that she has instead a skull with horrible teeth.
The legend says that "La Sayona" was a young woman named Casilda. She lived in a small town in the plains of Venezuela and was the most beautiful girl there. She was married to a great man, caring and loving. Casilda and her husband had a baby boy. One day, Casilda was swimming naked in a nearby river and a villager saw her. After that, the man would always follow her and watch her bathe in the river. One day Casilda saw him and told him to leave her alone; he ignored her, and instead told her that he was there to warn her: "Your husband is having an affair with none other than your mother," he said. Casilda ran home and found her husband asleep with the baby in his arms. Blind with anger, she burned the house with them inside. Villagers could hear their screams while Casilda ran to her mother's house. She found her on the patio and attacked her with a machete, striking her in the stomach. As the mother bled to death, she cursed Casilda telling her that from then on she would have to avenge all women by killing their unfaithful husbands. And from that day forward Casilda became "La Sayona".
In other versions of the tale, Sayona appears to men working in the jungle. She manifests when her unsuspecting victims talk to their workmates about sex or think of women they left behind in their hometown. Sayona appear to such men, assuming the likeness of beautiful woman, or a loved one, and lures them into the forest so she could reveal her animal-like features and devour them, or mangle them, leaving their wretched bodies for their companions to find.

What do you think about the "he... wants me to be someone that I'm not" (S2E3, flashback in Darius cabin)? Here we see how Brooklynn ties her interests, work and identity and how she connects it to why she and Kenji breakup.
Also the "I don't like the way people looked at me back home" (S2E5, when Sayona was painting Brooklynn).
I really want to see how you, a Kenlynn shiper, see it
Well, she's wrong 🤷♀️
We know she's wrong, and that she's in the wrong. We know that Kenji didn't "want her to be someone else", all he wanted was to spend time with his lover, lover who started neglecting everything in her life that didn't relate to her work, including their relationship.
He had no problem with who Brooklynn was when she was present, the problem was that she was NEVER present.
So why would Brooklynn say that? Because that's the only reasoning Brooklynn was able to come up with to explain why he'd break up with her.
Brooklynn, in this moment, is so deep into her investigation, is so blind to how unhealthy her relationship to her work has grown that she's physically incapable of making sense of the reason why Kenji broke up with her, so she tries to rationalize it, and this is the only explanation she's able to come up with.
We even have the confirmation of this in the dialogue when she tells Darius "I've been a LITTLE distracted with work". I've seen a lot of people come at her for lying to make Kenji seem like the bad guy in the relationship, but that's not at all what she's doing 😭. What's happening is that she's so disconnected from her life and from reality that she truly believes that she was only a little distracted. And since to her, in her broker-obsessed mind, the cause of their break-up didn't exist since she was only a little distracted, then Kenji had no reason to break up with her, unless he didn't really love her.
One thing that I think is important to understand is that the show isn't trying to frame pre-fake-death-Brooklynn as being misunderstood but, on the contrary, as being the one who doesn't understand sh*t and is wrong about everything, and this scene is simply one of the many instances when it's shown to us.
This was one of the many instances when we were shown just how much she was in denial.
And so, because I think it needs to be adressed, Kenji's problem wasn't that Brooklynn's work was of great importance to her. She had always been like this, even back in cc, he fell in love with that part of her. It's not some mysogistic thing where the dude can't accept that his partner is career-driven. The problem was that there was a clear shift in her behavior after she discovered Dark Jurassic, a shift that, as I touched upon in on of my posts, was everything but a natural evolution of her character because she closed herself off to everyone. The lesson is not that she can't be passionate about her work, the lesson is that there need to be a healthy balance between her work and her life, a balance that completely got off the rails when she got on Dark Jurassic, and we got to see the consequences of that balance being thrown off: Kenji broke up with her because she was in denial, Darius didn't show up because it hadn't even crossed her mind that his fiasco of a confession could affect their relationship and their plan to meet up, and finally her arm got eaten because she had gone about everything the wrong way, thus ending up alone and traumatized.
I totally got off topic, but consider the first few paragraphs my reply, the rest in bonus, as per usual 🤣
Oh, and of course, narratively speaking she also said that to allow our dear Darius to bounce back on what she said, leading to the infamous confession. It was because she said that that he started rambling on about how he couldn't fathom wanting her to be someone else because she was so perfect, bla bla, the rest is history. So it's also partly there as a set up to allow for Darius' character to accidentally confess in the most awful way I might say 😂.
And about the second question I'm not sure I understand what you're asking me, sorry 😭 Is it about Kenlynn or simply Brooklynn ? Because Kenji's not in that scene. I don't think you're asking me what Brooklynn meant because I think it's pretty easy to get that people look a certain way at people who look different, even if they don't mean to, and that it's bound to hurt.

Theory: Brooklynn talked to N5 before leaving
The finale leaves many things implied or even confusing – in a way that makes it seem like something happened, especially between the scenes where Ben warns Brooklynn about the Bumpy's egg in the suitcase and the scene where B leaves. I invite you to rewatch the final scene, so it will be easier to understand what I say:
It is implied that Brooklynn had a conversation with the Nublar 5 off-screen, hidden from the viewer. The implications of the scene:
Ben is the one who talks about Bumpy's egg, so he obviously put himself in front of his friends. In the next scene, we see the position of each of the boys and girls: in front, Ben (who talked about the egg in the case), behind him, Darius and lastly, Kenji, then we have Sammy in ahead of Yasmina. Keep Brooklynn's reaction finding out about the egg in mind, I'll talk about it later.
Although Ben asks for the egg, the one who has it in his hands in the last scenes is Kenji. It's not Ben, who loves Bumpy more than anyone, or Darius, who is Brooklynn's best friend. She decided to give the egg to Kenji, proving that:
A. Maybe she trusts him more than Ben or Darius (understandable, since Pincus didn't do what she asked and D left her with the Allo, but it would be a bit strange for the scene, don't you agree? After all, Ben is Bumpy's dad);
B. There was more to the scene than what is revealed to the viewer. A conversation, probably.
The only one Brooklynn hadn't seen before in the season was Kenji, so she didn't know about the affection he has for the baby in the shell, that is, she had no reason to choose him, again indicating that there was an exchange of words between the characters.
There is two hypothesis about what must happened:
• Before giving the egg to Ben, he (Kenji) interrupted and demanded to receive it in Ben's place. It would be strange, since one way or another they would already have the egg in hands – in very safe hands –, changing only the fact that it would be with Ben Pincus;
• Or better, Brooklynn took advantage of the great opportunity she had to give essential explanations for the third season: Santos would kill them if she noticed any sign of betrayal on B's part, but with only one egg missing and the promise that none of her "ex-friends" would get in the way of the plan, everything would be safer for Santos. B just had to take advantage of the small gap to tell her friends WHAT she was doing, WHERE she was going and WHY she was going there – remember, the others don't know anything about Sayona's plans. Those informations will be essential for the characters!
It makes sense, doesn't it? After all, part of the arc of Kenji's relationship with the others is that "nobody tells me anything". Having him as the center of the scene, being, somehow, the priority of information, implies a development in his arc and a future advancement in the others' as well.
Note, in the beginning, Kon was the last, but in the end he is the one who is the most ahead of his friends. There really was something.
Now, the final detail that is totally related to Brooklynn's reaction to the egg: Throughout the season she never knew that Bumpy would have a baby. Her reaction reveals that she realized she lost a lot. It's exactly what Earnest said: "You're nothing special [...]. You're never happy with the good thing you've got, right in front of you." This reinforces that Brooklynn's story is about enjoying the things she already has, what she loses with her obsession and what she also has to gain from it. She needs to balance a lot of things in order to finally understand, by herself, what the truly wants and needs.

A stupid theory I posted on reddit and thought it would be nice to post here. Tumblr must be more active, so activity ≃ interaction + addiction/correction for the theory.
I should stop thinking too much abt this show
If it turn out to be totally wrong, I hope you guys don't remember my post lol

BUCK-TICK ヒズミ (Hizumi) - English translation & romaji
"Distortion"
What do I live for? It won’t go well, this makeup It’s a tough weekend, isn’t it
My mom’s dreams? I violated them I tear off my chest
Lullaby, the blood won’t sto…p Lap at the mouth of the wound
We’re distorting, this town, me and you The twilight swing sways Everyone distorted is living mysteriously Look, a window light
My dad’s dreams? I killed them too Sunday, with a pattern of rain Lullaby, goodbye, farewe…ll Chop it all u…p
We’re distorting, this town, me and you The traffic light changes to red Grandpa, grandma Let us join hands Don’t bother! Please leave us alone
Dad, Mom, don’t forget, okay? I love you so so much If it’s got to be this way... I want to become gentle The next train will go… mad*
*[T/N] the kanji Sakurai uses in the lyrics is 狂う、”go mad”, even though in the song it sounds like 来る, “to come”, which makes sense in the context of "the next train coming"
+ it has been confirmed by Sakurai that the lyrics depict experiences of a "man with a woman's soul" who wishes to live as feminine (whether it's an euphemism for a transgender woman or a gnc man isn't entirely clear to me, i think it could be both). either way, it seems to express frustration at being unable to get rid of your masculinity completely - x
edit: here "grandma" and "grandpa" refer to older people in general, not necessarily relatives (in fact, the chosen kanji would imply that it's the former, not the latter). that part of the song seems also to be a reference to the Japanese custom of holding hands and helping a child safely cross the street, except here they refuse :(

Howdy! Somewhat Long-running fan of the profile. We're working on a more grody/Dark setting and were looking for perhaps a handful of particularly grody and otherwise "Unpleasant" undead to sprinkle around. Would you have any suggestions for foul corpses to have lope after hapless adventurers?
Let's see... There's the Sayona, Bloody Bones, Mohgr, Pickled Punks, Ecorche,
the Gutdragging Lurcher, though it needs an update into proper Pathfinder since it only has 3.5 stats
Shredskin, Undigested, Unrisen, Penanggalen, Festering Spirits, Wretchghosts... and, to a certain degree of 'unpleasant,' Attic Whisperers and Drecavacs.

After finally getting around to reading Sayona Storage I have to say: It's now one of my favorite events in terms of story and character development, especially on Hanna's part.
Without going into spoilers too much, it was actually really twisted to experience her inner monologue during the climax of Flowers Lament where she wanted to be wrong about the world so badly and how she regrets her decisions.
On this blog we support women's rights and women's wrongs
