people are setting themselves and one another on fire. these are not isolated unrelated individual acts of depravity and desperation. it feels like a gross understatement to call them “signs of a sick society” when people are literally ON FUCKING FIRE.
people are on fire. we need to do something. when i say that, i don’t mean we should sit around with our thumbs up our butts waiting for someone else to do something. i mean WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING.
community defense patrols in the subways, genuine mutual aid that treats social connection like a basic human need. it requires us to include homeless and incarcerated people as members of our communities, and not just in a symbolic sense but in a material sense. why do people only think of them as needy helpees, poor poor recipients of their benevolent and virtuous help? why are they not your friends? why don’t you know them? they are us, we are them. our collective apathy, our collective shirking of our responsibilities towards one another is tantamount to throwing the lit matches on them ourselves.

One of my favorite details from the finale is how three sky tendrils go into the Hexgates to take Vi, Jinx, and Ekko.
Tumblr media
But Jinx dodges one of them.
Tumblr media
This at first seems like a false victory, since she’s immediately grabbed by Warwick and another one just takes her.
Tumblr media
But it’s not a false victory. The one that took Jinx was originally meant for Ekko, who was an unconscious duck at the time.
Tumblr media
Because Jinx dodged the first sky tendril, Ekko remained disconnected from Viktor’s hivemind – which as you know, was kind of a major factor in the whole stopping the apocalypse from happening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s this small, short-lived triumphant moment that seemingly doesn’t matter and yet it was essential to Ekko's major triumph in the end.
So yeah, I just really love that detail.
Also, I couldn't resist putting the flash frame of Ekko here, because my god, the art in this show is beyond amazing.

can we talk about the alternative vinyl design for 2x7????
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, I loved the one we got. Especially since it's more subtly replacing the Jinx & Vi design, but this looks so amazing.
I love the colors. I love how at peace the two look in eachothers arms. I love that they included the blue smoke tattoos and the clockwork design.

the thing about Bruce Wayne is that, no matter what mask he wears, he looks at Gotham and sees something worth saving. something dark and dirty worth pulling up into the light, and damn the consequences.
in a city where so many other influential figures have given up, or given in, Bruce sees something worth making holy again. despite all that it’s taken from him.

Rook: *sneaking in through their window after a night at the villa*
Viago: *turning in their chair and flicking the light on* You want to tell me where you've been all night?
Rook: I was out with Teia?

Remember The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock? The movie showed how a kid who had an extremely rough upbringing got help from the family of a school friend, found success in football and ultimately ended up being adopted by the family. Turns out he was never adopted.
Tumblr media
Michael Oher says that he was tricked by the Tuohy family into signing documents that made them his conservators. Since he was already 18 at the time the family told him, “that it means pretty much the exact same thing as 'adoptive parents,' but that the laws were just written in a way that took [his] age into account.”
Oher also says that papers were signed so that his story and likeness were given away for free to use in The Blind Side. He also never got a single royalty check for the hugely successful, Oscar nominated film in the 14 years since its release.

correct me if i’m wrong cos i don’t watch dune.. but i’ve seen people call paul a tragic character. except isn’t he a whole white coloniser tricking indigenous poc into believing he’s a prophet to serve his own interests? that’s inherently evil that cannot be a tragic character imo
so yes that is correct that is what happens. the tragedy is that he is a sixteen year old boy who gets a vision of this happening and he is TERRIFIED and absolutely does not want this to happen at all. He does not want the holy war he does not want to be the chosen one he initially very much wants to fight alongside the fremen as equals trying to liberate themselves from their current colonizer without becoming the messiah because they have common political cause.
And then the entire second half of the first book (and the second movie) are about the concessions he makes to himself bit by bit by bit (well it’s the only way to save his mom and sister. well it’s the only way to prevent nuclear war. well he does want his revenge. well maybe he IS special.) Until by the end he has lost 100% of his humanity, fully wants to be the messiah and is willing to manipulate people into thinking so, and has declared himself duke of arrakis in his father’s name and made a play for the imperial throne.
you’re right that it’s evil. the book and these movies agree with you. the tragedy is watching a child who desperately wanted to avoid this slowly completely lose himself to it anyways. i don’t think “tragic” and “evil” are inherently mutually exclusive.
