"There is a favor I need to ask, to tell the truth," said William. Vetinari smiled.
"Of course. If I can do anything for the Ti--"
"Will you be going to Harry King's daughter's wedding on Saturday?"
To his secret delight, the look that Vetinari gave him seemed to be blank because the man hadn't got anything to fill it with. But Drumknott leaned towards him, and there were a few whispered words.
"Ah?" said the Patrician. "Harry King. Ah, yes. A positive incarnation of the spirit that has made our city what it is today. Haven't I always said that, Drumknott?"
"Yes indeed, sir."
"I shall certainly attend," said Lord Vetinari. [...]
"In return, however," said the Patrician, "I must ask you not to upset Commander Vimes." He gave a little cough. "More than necessary."

I MET SAMUEL WEST!!!!!
I was very nervous but managed a hello and how much I was enjoying All Creatures. My friend, who is much better at talking to famous people than me, told him how much I loved his work and that I could talk to him for hours and he was very lovely and said I was a woman with impeccable taste. I am so happy.
I should also say that Rufus Hound was also very lovely and my friend talked to him about Countdown and how her kids watch the show too.

Today in Christian History
Today is Friday, June 16th, 2023 the 167th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar; 198 days remain until the end of the year.
1361: Death in Strasburg of Johannes Tauler, German mystic and influential preacher.
1660: The British House of Commons passes a resolution to burn books of John Milton that had championed the Parliamentarian rebellion against Charles I and argued for the legitimacy of that king’s execution. The books will be burned on 27 August 1660.
1752: Death at Bath of Bishop Joseph Butler, whose head-on challenge of his own doubts had led him to write Analogy of Religion Natural and Revealed to the Constitution and Course of Nature (1736), a highly original and famous apologetic that answered Deism. It had quickly become a textbook for ecclesiastical students.
1818: Death of Samuel J. Mills at sea. He had been exploring Africa to see if a mission work could be established. With Adoniram Judson and others, Mills had been a founder of American foreign missions.
1833: John Henry Newman, while traveling on a ship from Italy to France, pens the words to the hymn, “Lead Kindly Light Amid the Encircling Gloom.”
1862: Repose (Death) of Archimandrite Moses, who had entered the monastic life with the blessing of the famous St. Seraphim himself. After years of asceticism in Roslavl Forest, he had visited Optina and was persuaded to found a hermitage there.
1948: Death at Haverford, Pennsylvania, of Rufus M. Jones, American Quaker theologian. Through his writings and articles he had done much to advance Quaker social action. He had also helped found the American Friends Service Committee.

I want to see this play again. And again. And again! There are so many amazing, funny, bonkers moments on "It's Headed Straight Towards Us" that you cannot grasp them after only seeing it once. Sadly my holiday funds are running on empty... otherwise I would have gotten a ticket for a matinee - very spontaneously.
Sam West is absolutely brilliant in it. The entire story, the character development, the setting and the tone of the play are spot on. Rufus Hound's character has some flaws that are a bit cringy and one major (let's call it) health issue that isn't explained by the end of the play. That is my only criticism.
Sam's character feels like it was written for him! If you have the chance to see this play: DO IT! It's worth all your money. (I'd even say it if the cast was a different one)
