The left is on board with 'the general public isn't willing to go up against millionaires and billionaires because they hope deep down that they themselves might one day be wealthy, ' but within leftist circles I'm constantly seeing and knowing people who're unwilling to go up against copyright law or making media completely free, and I swear to god it's because they hope they themselves might one day be full-time big-name artists who would be "robbed" by such a system

from: @starflungwaddledee to: @post-it-notes7
message from santa: "happy holidays post-it-notes! 🎄🥳 i know you very politely only wished for a few modest things- characters high fiving, or struggling in christmas attire- but i hope you'll still enjoy this given that i kinda went the opposite direction entirely! i'm an enormous fan of your work and most times you post anything i wind up browsing your art tag from tip-to-tail in enraptured delight. as such, i thought it was only fair i give back something a little more significant in gratitude for all the joy your work has given me. i knew i wanted to do a comic, so i was thrilled you already had a whole storyverse for me to work from!! this scene seemed the most obvious choice (chapter 8 of "wishful thinking" on ao3) given that i enjoy a dramatic fight scene 😂 i tried to stick as beat-by-beat to the writing as i could and worked in as many details as possible; i hope it'll be fun to see it envisioned this way! merry christmas! ~starflung 🎀🔔 "

So I was thinking
Since there's a headcanon that the Infinite Realms connects all dimensions together and houses the souls of all who died. And add in the DC universe where a bunch of shenanigans could happen. It got me thinking, in the regular DC canon, Bruce's parents died when he was a kid, but in the Flashpoint universe, Bruce Wayne died instead of his parents.
So add in the little fun headcanon of the Infinite Realms where it holds all of the universes and has the ghosts. Would it be possible that the ghost of Thomas and Martha Wayne would meet the ghost version of their son wandering around there?
Like imagine, a parent dying and then seeing a ghost version of their child there too.
I'm sure there's going to be a way to insert Danny into this. I was thinking that he would probably be friends with the kid Bruce Wayne ghost, but in his dimension Bruce Wayne is Batman with 10+ kids and all that. So shenanigans could totally happen. Or if you want, his universe could be the one with the Thomas Wayne Batman.
What do you think?

Hey so one thing you can ask me to do which this person is the first to actually take me up on, is if an original is already sold but you want it I will absolutely paint or draw something that is like 96% the same for slightly lower than my standard commission rate (less work without the prep stages).

I've spent an hour investigating the height difference of podcast men and eventually scrolled to the post where they're lined up in their sleepwear (or lack of thereof)
Tumblr media
I'll go do economics homework now
lord I am so stupid
GOD that’s hilarious I commend the dedication 🙏🙏
what’s even funnier tho, is that I have a height chart I don’t think I actually shared…. I mean it just confirms what you already know but still

This is half about danmei, which isn't the main or even tertiary purpose of this blog, BUT also half about writing in general, so here I stick it.
I've been reading danmei since 2020 but I've really struggled to write anything for it. If i measure success by just getting something going, the fic I'm currently working on is the most "successful" venture I've had. It took me ages to even crank out the opening scenes. Despite longing to write in the New Hyperfixation for a long time, I just couldn't grok it.
Initially I thought it was unfamiliarity with the background of the culture the media was based in. With HP, for example, there is a whole lot of English culture that's easily accessible to me, and I studied British literature in school for years. Obviously this isn't the same thing as being English, but it gave me enough of a background to fake it that once when i applied to a graduate program in England, they thought I was actually English.
But with china, there is so much I don't understand and can't access in the same way, so I thought perhaps that was the problem.
But now I'm thinking it's more about the literary approach.
The tradition I learned to write in is one of realism. I often cite Jane Austen as my favorite author; she was a writer of realism: people, situations, and style are all as close to reality as possible. She was actually one of the most hard-line realist writers of the time, even meticulously accurate in minutiae such as how long it took to travel between cities, or when you could reasonably expect to receive a letter. The way she renders character is also heavily based in the psychology of real people, especially in the latter half of her career. And I love the psychology of character. Nothing interests me more as a reader or a writer. It's what I use as a foundation for writing: how to render people and their emotional responses within a tradition of realism, so that they feel (as much as possible, given that i also love fantasy) like genuine human beings.
But this is not, in my experience of it, what Chinese BL is about.
Now, the first of my caveats is that plenty of western media isn't, either (though fandom tends to be obsessed with it to the point of mania, where a character's psychology is microscopically detailed, in particular their responses to trauma). But western media often maintains a veneer of it -- my favorite marvel movie is Captain America: the Winter Soldier, which features Steve feeling purposeless and empty in a world he no longer fits in. (And then his internal conflict is symbolically made external with the reappearance of his dearest friend, whose mind has been wiped to forget him.) That whole movie revolves around Steve's psychology. And that's a big budget blockbuster movie chock full of punchy, blow-uppy action scenes. It still finds time to make a character feel depressed and lost.
(They then did absolutely nothing interesting with it, but you know. They had a single moment.)
To a certain extent, if western media is character based, it has to explore the characters' mental state, and tries to do so in a way that enlightens both the audience and the character, opening up their dark parts and forcing them to change. We probably have Joseph Campbell to thank for a lot of this; his Hero's Journey was modeled heavily on the works of Carl Jung, the psychologist. In fact, Carl Jung was hugely influential in English-speaking literary criticism of the 1970's. (I say "English speaking" because that's the only field I'm familiar with.) To give you the biggest example I know of, Ursula K. le Guin's phenomenal Earthsea trilogy is steeped in Jungian psychology, no book more so than the opening novel, A Wizard of Earthsea. The climax of that novel blew my mind, by the way.
My second caveat is this: it's not that the patterns of Chinese BL don't have character work, or that they aren't concerned with the character's interiority. With my fixation on character, if those things were entirely absent, I wouldn't be reading these books. It's more that the media tradition of hyper-focus on the characters' mental state, the delicate unfolding of their psychology, is not what drives the media. The characters do suffer, and they have feelings and desires, but they are often preternaturally strong-willed and able to withstand horrific trauma while still maintaining their sense of self.
(Two characters really come to mind. One is Chang Geng from Sha Po Lang, whose "mother" repeatedly puts him through such intense physical and psychological abuse in his childhood that you wonder how anyone could possibly stay sane. But he's also been injected with a magical poison that will drive him insane, and gives him bloody nightmares every night, and requires him to drink blood -- you get the idea. The other is Gu Mang from Yuwu: Remnants of Filth, who goes through things that are just mind-bogglingly Yiiiikes. Each of them feels the pain, but realism isn't where we're trying to arrive at, because it would be impossible for a real person to hold it together under the things they endured. But neither of them is supposed to be like a real person. Chang Geng, Gu Mang, is supposed to be more.)
Nothing is always. To use the novel I'm writing for as an obvious example toward some measure of realism, Xie Lian spends Book 4 being deeply traumatized; it's part of his character journey and essential to the plot. But his character psychology is still not based in realism. It wasn't designed to be. MXTX herself said in her afterword for TGCF that neither Hua Cheng nor Xie Lian were remotely like real people, because they weren't supposed to be. They were supposed to be larger than life, more than mere existence.
So when I am puttering around with my Psychology of the Individual writing tool, I get a bit wrong-footed because the entire way that I approach writing does not seamlessly settle into this brave new frontier. How can I realistically explore the emotions and mind of people who are not written to be like real people at all? That's what's truly been stumping me.

I love that the fandom is finally giving swap sans the maturity he deserves but I'd be remiss if I didnt argue some of you are still either not understanding who he is or are trying to avoid soft boy uwu baby boy so hard in the other direction, your overcompensating.
Swap sans is an original papyrus in a Sans body. That's it, shouldn't be hard right? Like that's just who he is, he's a personality swapped au going from being a sans personality in a Sans body to being a papyrus personality in a Sans body.
Some of you are making him just flat out mean to avoid the naive childlike maturity of the original characterization. He's not mean. He doesn't smoke or spit at people or secretly hate everyone or talk shit or fuckin kick puppies or something. Unless that's how you see og papyrus which I doubt it is. He doesn't hate ink or dream. He doesn't curse like crazy (probs sometimes lol). It's like y'all cannot see male characters outside of " naive fem twink soft boy uwu senpai" or " crotchety bitter old man who abuses everyone and shit talks his friends and scares babies for fun".
He's literally a fucking himbo. I don't think he's kronk levels of stupid but you can still play on his (and og papy's) naivete and positive attitude and high energy without infantilizing him and you can acknowledge his sarcasm, high strung and occasionally fake smile without demonizing him. There are shades in-between, please stop reading the 7,000th incorrect quote from the office you've read with 300 other characters in the exact same scenario and engage with him on a deeper level.
I know I have bias cause he rots my brain and is litterally my fandom husband but like it's not that hard to actually just apply papyrus' personality to the character meant to be exactly like him. Y'all do this same shit to og papyrus too so don't play with me

Anyone else have near-perfect executive function at work; but at home, have literally no energy or motivation to do anything except lie in a dark room, with something in or on your ears for several hours?
#It’s got to be the schedule keeping me on task at work#I love microdosing strict routines (not having an actual routine for the day; but having routines for small tasks#which piss me off if I can’t carry them out precisely the way I planned)#For instance: If I’m asked to paperclip a bunch of stuff together with multicolored paperclips of various sizes#I cannot just indiscriminately pick paperclips from the container because that is WRONG and ILLEGAL#The colors must fit the theme of the assignments; and the colors must alternate in a specific order#and the paperclips must all be the same size#If I’m asked to dump out and clean containers of writing utensils I am going to sort them by type and color#whether you like it or not#Black permanent markers have their own container in a different section from the blue permanent markers#Dry-erase markers are not to be mixed with permanent markers because they are easily confused and it is WRONG and ILLEGAL#Do not fuck with the system. It’s the only organizational skill I have and by fucking GOD I’m going to use it in EXCESS#I stuff and fill out envelopes the exact same way every time because if I do it any other way it is WRONG and ILLEGAL#The stamp always goes on last to minimize monetary waste if there is a mistake#Now you’d think my room is squeaky clean and organized because of how particular I am about these small tasks#Right? Right?#NO IT IS NOT. It looks like a bomb went off. Cleaning the room is a big task which cannot be accomplished within two hours#therefore I have discarded it as anything I need a routine for because it would take too long to come up with#and it is very hard for me to do things like that without instructions or a sense of consistency#So I simply don’t#“After five years the dust doesn’t get any worse” correct; but the mold certainly does#I am convinced half my problems with organization as a kid would have been solved if I just had a hamper#“We have a clothes chute; you don’t need a hamper” Maybe you don’t but I DO#I want one now; but I’m going to use it as incentive to get an apartment#because that’s another thing I need to smuggle and I have too much already

I swear 2025 age gap discourse would not have survived the absolute clusterfuck that was late 2000s queer anime spaces.
I've legit seen people on IG calling a guy who was 19 at the time he got with his 26 year old boyfriend "grooming" (I swear I'm not kidding) and I'm like. when I was 15 some 22 year old neckbeard I met on a yaoi forum made friends with me so I'd beat off for him on yahoo messenger. *that's* grooming.

I know this is just a silly bad quality random screencap of a screencap that I found on facebook lol, BUT it's a succinct enough image to easily describe the concept in a quick/accessible way hopefully :
Tumblr media

(and of course, feel free to elaborate in tags, etc.! (especially elaborating about other senses as well.. can you "hear" in your mind just as well as you can "see"? taste? etc.) It's an interesting topic to me, as someone who's like a 4.5 at MOST lol. I'm curious what option will be the most common :0c )
#tumblr polls#hrmm... a little poll perhaps.. about a subject I find interesting.. since this image came across my facebook today#still really not feeling that well. no longer shaking violently and such but I still feel weird and weak much more than usual#They did say my markers for like infection or inflammation were elevated but that they werent sure of the cause so hopefully#it's nothing too serious. they did also say a lot of different things can cause that thing to be higher than normal but didn't go into spec#fics of what. maybe some of them are relatively benign or something. I still havent felt much back to normal since#I got really sick that one time though. I feel fine on and off but then little bouts of feeling weird and sick happen. hrmmm#ANYWAY.. looking for small ways to be productive. such as little doodles on evil ipad or editing game videos#or posting polls or cat pictures or some other like not very labor intensive things#I WISH I COULD FOCUS on writing HHRGGhh... I need to finish my game.. it would be so freeing.. a project that's been looming#over my head for like 5 years even though througouht that 5yrs I've probably spent a total of 3 months working on it lo.. ANYWAY#I still partially really cannot beleive that people CAN see stuff in their heads. There's always part of me that's thinking like. well mayb#e everyone DOES see the same exact thing but we just describe/conceptualize it so differently that we think we're talking about#different things when we're really not. But I have been assured by people I've talked to about it that they can GENUINELY really see#stuff in their heads like as vivid as an actual picture in real life or something. And the other senses are neat too. Like for exmaple I#can hear in my head much better than I can see imagery. I still CANNOT hear vividly like as if I were listening to actual music out loud..#but I think it's developed more than my sight. AND interesting how this varies the creative process. a friend I was talking to on the phone#said they write by literally just watching stuff play before them like a movie. where my process is COMPLETELY different. AND that affects#the content/what details we focus on as well as our individual styles of writing have differences that can be traced back to that.. hrmm

as somebody who watches possibly too many documentaries, i gotta say, the wisdom of reading about a piece of news or something from more than one news outlet to get a more measured opinion on the subject absolutely stands with documentaries.
One subject can make Vastly different documentaries from different people. it's not neutral.

#val comes out of hiding#just had the worst 45 mins#got new glasses ok. new rx but with the same frames.#the idea was i would swap the new lenses into the old frames. since they're the exact same frames i already use.#so i won't have to adjust the new frames to be comfy#then i could use the new unadjusted frames as my backup pair so i don't have to spend a bunch of time adjusting the new frames#because i'm really picky about how they're adjusted#anyway. new glasses get here today. i start the process of swapping the new lenses into the old frames and vice versa.#curveball--the new lenses don't fit. WTF? i try and i try and i cannot get the new lenses in. maybe i got a different material thickness id#i didn't think i did but i just cannot get them to fit. alas. upset and frustrated but we gotta power thru it.#in the process of putting the new lenses back into the new frames i LOSE a GODDAMN SCREW#i search for like 15 mins with a flashlight. but our carpet is long and i cannot find that motherfucker to save my life#so i go back to the lenses thing and pilfer a screw from my old frames. then i have a bright idea#i can put the arms from the old frames onto the new frames instead! and that saves the most adjustment-heavy part of the glasses#so i do! and it works great! except i also lose ANOTHER SCREW#i look for this other one for another while and can't find either of them STILL. so i think ok. lemme break out the vacuum.#screw is small and hard. dust is soft. i can just vacuum them up and find the screw in the vacuum dust when i empty it.#so i vacuum and empty the little bit of dust onto a garbage bag on the floor and rifle through it like a little gremlin. no screws.#where are they? who fucking knows man#and yeah i just used screws from my old frames but man. the adhd frustration rage was real i almost had a breakdown on god#new glasses are fine because i got the old arms and now it's just the adjustment period but like. i kind of hate them on principle now
