New Age AU (Age Line-up)
Hello guys, I decided that I would put the guys into a (loose) comprehensive list of ages. This is all relative to whenever Nightmare first became 13 again. This is set 7 years after the coronation and Dream's banishment. (More Explanations below the cut)
So I'll start in the order of when these goobers met Night.
Ccino! He met Nightmare when he was born, and is 7 years older than him when they were children. Now, thanks to the gap in time (in which Nightmare appeared somewhere between 20-30) they have 14 years apart in age. Ccino is 27 at the start of the main plot.
Killer! He met Nightmare one year into his rule, almost on the dot. He is 25 when the main plot begins. (They met when Killer was 19. Killer was the correct age to be put up for death, a legal adult, while his partner in crime was too young and therefore was still imprisoned.)
Dust! He met Nightmare during his second year of rule. He is 30 when the main plot begins. (Dust was about 25 when Nightmare released him from imprisonment to help him learn about the black market.) Dust is the oldest of the Knights. Yes he gets teased ruthlessly about it by the others.
Horror! He also met Nightmare during the second year of his rule (though later in the year than Dust). He is 28 when the main plot begins. (He met Night when he was about 23, almost old enough to take over his family's farm, but his brother could handle it, so he chose to accept Night's offer and teach him to improve farms across the kingdom.)
Cross! Cross met Nightmare 5 years into his rule, and is 20 when the main plot begins. (His home kingdom collapsed when he was 16, he spent 2 years wandering with Ink, then met Dream. Dream asked him to spy on Night, and he was caught, so he met Night when he was just 18 and spent 2 years with him.) He's young, and he always kinda felt out of place, but the others adopted him in really easily, and the bond between a family is something Cross won't risk losing, so he's ultra loyal.
Error! Error met Nightmare 6 years into his rule, and is 15 when the main plot begins. (He ran away when he was 14 when Geno left, and was almost immediately scooped up by Nightmare within the same year. Hence why Fresh couldn't find him.) Error has very little time to acclimate to Nightmare's adult habits before he's slammed with the Young Night information (therefore he didn't have as many weird apprehensions)
The others and their connections to the others start... here!
Dream! Dream has been aging normally, so he is now 20! (He left the kingdom harboring him at age 15 with Blue, and when he returns to finally face Nightmare he's about 21.)
Blue! Met Dream during his second year in exile, and is now 21. (He left with Dream when he was 16.)
Ink! He has a crazy backstory, but he met Dream when he was 17, and brought Cross w/ him and stayed when Dream was 18. Start of the plot? He's 24! (Ink my beloved, he's crazy, and might be lying about his age, but for the sake of this, he's generally 24.)
Fresh! Age 22 at the start of the story. (He's only 7 when Error is born, and 21 when Error runs away.)
Geno! Age 32 when the plot begins! He leaves when he's about 30 to move and work with Reaper. (I'm retconning some things here, to say that the news of Error disappearing took over a year or two to finally reach Geno's ears. There are a few years worth of conflict between Dream and Night that need to pad out before Geno enters the narrative, so we're gonna say Fresh took a LONG time searching for Error before he finally told Reno the truth.)
Reaper! He's actually so so old. Like. Dusty musty old guy who acts/looks young <3. No canon age for him because he's so outside the range :)
#New Age AU#I love these goobers#I had a lot more to say but like#Night's magic made it normal to have all these young-ish guys (his age range style situation) but then he got YOUNG and they were all like#holy crap this is a child. we were being role-models for a child??#And then they immediately take him in#(Large dysfunctional sibling family :))#I like the idea that Nightmare picked up all these guys because he thought they were cool (ultimately that's his position)#This LOOSELY canon. Please take it with a grain of salt-#Oh. And Ccino being the 'oldest brother' is a silly image because he's not literally the oldest. He just gets Automatic privilege for being#there the longest <3

So in a good news/less good news thing, I might have found out the cause of the Unexpected Floor Time! I got my blood test results back and my sodium was on the very very low end of normal. Still technically in the normal range, but very not normal for me, so my issue may have been that this week I am more sodium Georg than usual???? I mean I do have salt wasting syndrome but also I eat so much salt every day and I am on medication to help me retain salt better (fludrocortisone! it's great!) So anyway that's why I have not got much crafting done this week. I've been extremely tired and unsalted lol Oh wait the good/less good format! Okay so good news is might have an answer and it's not any of the worse options, less good news is that I need more damn salt lol
#the person behind the yarn#HOW how am I low on salt#I eat SO MUCH SALT and I take salt pills!#how am I an unsalted potato chip of a person???#I don't even know what I meant by that but I am leaving it in because it made me laugh#also: my glucose continues to be in the fasting range when I am very much not fasting#and like. I had to see a different doc than usual so I could be seen faster#and I mentioned I was prone to low blood sugar#and he was like 'Why? None of the medications you are on cause low blood sugar'#and it was like. dude. sometimes people have low blood sugar! not sure what to tell you!#I keep testing in the fasting range when not fasting!#my lowest blood sugar at the doctor's office in the last year was 79! I was not fasting#in fact I'd had a whole gatorade right before walking into the office#anyway I'll be fine I'll just take more salt pills and snack more frequently but uggghhhhh

Salt Houses
historical fiction

different chapters from almost every family member’s perspective, skipping years in between
explores complex family dynamics, grief, and loss of home and identity through displacement
#Salt Houses#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#palestinian books#this was really good. ough.#a range of complex characters and family relationships; they all felt so real.#the parallels and contrasts of the different generations at the same age (especially the women)#and getting different perspectives on things decades later that they never really discuss#definitely the perspective of a wealthier family who's able to have relative safety yet the displacement still has such a significant effec

horrible detail for my zombie au!!
In this version of the story, the Body Improvement Club does a lot of manual labor around Salt, but they're still fundamentally a club, and after they've put in their hours doing labor, they do just. club stuff. working out for the sake of working out.
Running, for instance. Running around in a little pack, just for the joy of it, for the sake of exerting their bodies and making themselves tired and hungry knowing they're safe to do so. (which, in this world, no one takes for granted.)
But even after the cure, Mob is still visibly not quite right, which means—
when he's panting along in the wake of the Body Improvement Club—
it looks a bit like they're being chased by a zombie.
#my zombie au#he get accosted a couple of times for just. going on a run with his club. he's lucky Salt doesn't allow most people to have guns#within township limits#because he very well could have gotten shot#IT LOOKS SO BAD#but fortunately the rest of the GuysTM are VERY quick to form up defensively around Kageyama and put their hands on his shoulders#(in easy biting range)#and just. Visually Demonstrate That This Is Their Friend#We Are The Body Improvement Club. We Are On A Run. Do You Have A Problem With Us#and good for them. good for them

Having OC’s is kinda funny at times, their origin stories (fandom or otherwise) can effectively range from ‘yep. I thought I’d cool to make this guy one night,’ to ‘there is genuinely an entire evolutionary tree of guys that became this final guy. How? Uhhh, via the osmosis man idk, survival of the fittest or some shit. I’m not sure how to explain this.’
#chatter#salt grain thoughts#my ocs really do range like this#some of em you really nail the jackpot of vibes that you wanted first try#more or less#others it takes many redesigns to find what you’re looking for#or what you’re looking for just changes with you as you grow

#....that and having a really hard time to focus on anything happening on the battlefield in the ritual area#because Everything Is Fucking Flashing All The Time#<- sorry for the salt but after so much talk abt accessibility this is really frustrating#laya plays dav#dav#well to counter the salt. combat DOES feel very nice and snappy#and i like that you can switch between melee and ranged weapons so seamlessly

jujutsu kaisen fan watching dragon ball z: toriyama is such a frieza glazer just making up new convenient "forms" for him to power up. with vegeta dead literally nobody is alive who can handle him, and he's not even at 100% power. dende? gohan? krillin? he's just throwing people at frieza to lose. dbz really fell off. toriyama wrote himself into a corner and now only an unsatisfying asspull would give them the win on frieza
#jjk#dbz#i just needed to get some salt out about the way people act like the final villain is supposed to be an absolute breeze or smth#i feel like the fight is playing out a bit similarly atm#and like#i feel confident yuuji will have his moment and it'll be in a similar satisfying range of “goku goes super saiyan for the first time”#ig i'm a gege glazer

i feel like a lot of people ignore the fact that in a lot of places, bicycling just. cannot be done for half the year, & that's why public transport being good is important. i cannot bike in 5 feet of snow & ice or in 40c heat. i can't even walk in that, unless i have the energy to snowshoe or a bucket of ice water to chug.
"but I can do it!" good for you. unfortunately i live in Berk (snowing for 9 months of the year & hailing the other 3) & cannot unless i want to die. also disabled people exist. & children. & people who live in a place where everything is no closer than 30 minutes away, & 30 minutes in -30c can kill you if you can't afford a good pair of boots & a good coat. i may have bike paths but the river floods past them every year. what do i do then? bike on the highway?? just let me take the train
#people who live in places where the weather is always nice (aka not trying to kill you 75% of the time): you are an outlier#where i live the temperatures range from -30c to +35c give or take. snow hail thunderstorms tornadoes all that shit too#''biking is so fun! even when it's raining!'' dude ima be real with you. it is ice raining. i do not want to be coated in wet ice#do you know what snowmelt is? it's where all the snow melts in the spring & then fucking floods everything#it's freezing dirty water & it kills people because people always underestimate The River#i am not riding my bike through that. it's always colder & deeper than you think & there is always a current even if you can't see it#''but it's not like it's the ocean'' dude. water aint fucking around salt or no#you may look at The River & think ''that's just a lake. seems calm & nice'' but you'd be wrong & you would die from your foolishness#this shit is connected to the Great Lakes. those fuckers are fresh water seas. i do not fuck with that#it's great you live in a place where biking all year round is feasible. but i cannot do that even if i wanted to#''but what if the weather's been nice lately'' then you'd be falling for fool's spring#where it looks like it's getting warmer & then the temperature drops & it snows a whole bunch again#& then it warms up & then it snows again. repeat until like May#we just want good public transport okay i get that exercise is good but i'd rather not risk my extremities for it thank you

If you're like me in being, shall we say, skeptical of the NGSW program, what do you think would need to change about the XM7 to make it viable? I have a hard time thinking of any fixes that don't make it worse in some other area.
It's an expensive game of restless rifle syndrome, combined with another ammo debate. The US military has been chasing its tail since Korea.
30-06 gave way to .308 (actually the colder 7.62x51) which gave way to .223 (actually the hotter 5.56) because logistics matters more than lethality. You can't save money on a more engineered killshot if you still need 20,000 rounds of suppressing fire to get that killshot. The FBI made the same mistake with 10mm > .40 S&W > 9mm. Some highway patrols split the difference between .40 and 9mm and carry .357 SIG so they can "punch through car doors". I don't have the heart to tell them .22 lr will punch through a car door.
The XM7 is just a DMR with a 13-inch barrel. Not hating on DMRs. Right tool for the right job and all that. Would have been nice to not take Fallujah veterans with carbines, head-to-toe armor, and humvees and throw them into the mountains of Afghanistan. If you're gonna foreverwar, at least do it right.
India has the AK-203 replacing the INSAS for regular line infantry, and the SIG 716i Tread is being issued to mountaineer units. That makes sense. Proposing a standard issue battle rifle to replace the M4 demonstrates a level of ineptitude that borders on the imbecilic. We already had this talk with the FAL, G3, M14, and AR-10 (et. al.)
The rifle is the size, shape, and dimension of a Longshot Nerf Blaster on Viagra, so good luck getting in and out of a vehicle smoothly. Also, two charging handles?? Just keep the one that doesn't need a dust cover. What, were the attachments not heavy enough?
Speaking of attachments: the military deliberately overgasses their guns to fight through mud and blood, so have fun with the can on front pepperblasting the shooter with tasty carcinogens with every shot. Also, didn't you just tell me about gas pistons and suppressors being front heavy?
And the smart optic? Thousands of bucks per unit of scope is, I assume, supposed to replace thousands of bucks of ammo on the shooting range. The difference being practice can't be looted off of a dead troop, but a scope can (assuming Pvt Snafu didn't already break the damn thing).
All of this for a weapon system that may go the way of the G11, the XM8, the OICW, and whatever gun shot those flechette rounds. The legacy of the whole program will be an already-made video by Forgotten Weapons at best, and a bankrupting, grunt-killing quagmire at worst.
Overall, the military is too many chefs, the broth is fubar, and I'm glad they all suck at management and retention because the DOD's next target isn't Russia, China, Palestine, or whatever South American country the Washington Post is writing op-eds about. Their next target is American citizens.
Good luck everyone.
#take all of this with a grain of salt#what do i know?#i'm just a guy who needs to get back on the range again.#i hope this answers your question
