Hey y'all, it has come to my attention that many of you crave that mineral…
And even though this is specifically a blog for non-mammalian creatures, I feel as if I should meet your basic biological needs.
So, I got y'all some salt licks. Feel free to lick the screen.

Pink Himalayan salt is often marketed as a premium product. While it contains trace minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium, the amounts are so minimal that they have no significant impact on nutritional intake.

How does the king stay hydrated when they cry so much?! I'm genuinely concerned for his health at a certain point!

wait WHAT is this about table salt vs sea? I thought that was just a scam to get people to buy "fancy" salt 😂 tell me everything
Basically, table salt is processed to remove other minerals, so you're getting pure Sodium without the balance of those naturally-occurring minerals you need (especially Magnesium, which lowers blood pressure in the presence of Sodium). Table salt is also commonly coated in anti-caking agents, and fortified with iodine, which is not a mineral most Americans are deficient in anymore, but we can be at risk of overload.
Unrefined sea salt on the other hand, is simply dehydrated from sea water, and retains all its other minerals. Himalayan salt also has the same benefits.

My Supernatual headcanon I'll fight over is that angels can't taste but archangels can HOWEVER they can't taste flavor. They can tell you if the item was sweet, sour, salty, bitter, etc, but they don't have the taste receptors for anything else.

🧀📸 Rock, mineral, and shell collection (France, October 2024)
Taken with a Canon EOS 500N camera
Fujifilm Superia X-tra 400 ISO (expired)
First time shooting inside. I regret sticking to the automatic settings because the museum had very little light and the camera did not try to compensate like a more experienced photographer would have.
As a result most of my photos are blurry and underexposed.
The collection was from the "Secrets from the Earth" temporary exhibition held at the musée des Confluences, Lyon (from 24 June 2022 to 03 November 2024).

Today's Specimen: Halite
Halite is a rock you've most definitely seen before, but likely not the name you've heard. Halite is viewed as the most well known mineral in the world. That's right, this is your average table salt! It is formed in a cubic pattern, and can be found almost anywhere, from lakes to springs to oceans, there is halite. The word halite comes from the Greek word halos, meaning salt. Halite is used as a flavour enhancing ingredient in food, as well as for things like de-icing and industrial chemicals. Fun facts: Ancient Roman soldiers were paid in salt as well as gold. Miners at the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland have gotten creative with their work, and made it tradition to carve sculptures into the halite caves! Next time you sprinkle salt on your dinner, take a moment to think about just how magnificent it is, and what a great job it does!
Stay tuned for another rock talk!
