OK ok ok ok for the love of fuck do NOT wash your goddamned raw meat. The water from the sink faucet splashing on it spreads germs like salmonella in a VERY wide radius of the sink. You do not need to wash the germs off to remove them. That's what cooking is for. Cooking kills the germs.
if u ever feel bad about yourself just watch a real housewives show i guarantee you're doing better than them
#cooking safety#safe food handling#safe food prep#please dont wash your gotdamned chimkins#unless they are alive and need a bath bc they are dirty#then just make sure to dry them well afterward

General standard for food additives.
This General standard for food additives sets forth the conditions under which food additives may be used in all foods, whether or not they have previously been standardized by Code.

a) Food additive means any substance not normally consumed as a food by itself and not normally used as a typical ingredient of the food, whether or not it has nutritive value, the intentional addition of which to food for a technological (including organoleptic) purpose in the manufacture, processing, preparation, treatment, packing, packaging, transport or holding of such food results, or may be reasonably expected to result (directly or indirectly), in it or its by-products becoming a component of or otherwise affecting the characteristics of such foods. The term does not include contaminants or substances added to food for maintaining or improving nutritional qualities.
b) Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) is an estimate by JECFA of the amount of a food additive, expressed on a body weight basis that can be ingested daily over a lifetime without appreciable health risk. c) Acceptable Daily Intake "Not Specified" (NS) is a term applicable to a food substance of very low toxicity for which, on the basis of the available data (chemical, biochemical, toxicological, and other), the total dietary intake of the substance, arising from its use at the levels necessary to achieve the desired effect and from its acceptable background levels in food, does not, in the opinion of JECFA, represent a hazard to health. For the above reason, and for reasons stated in individual JECFA evaluations, establishment of an acceptable daily intake expressed in numerical form is not deemed necessary by JECFA. An additive meeting the above criterion must be used within the bounds of good manufacturing practice as defined. d) Maximum Use Level of an additive is the highest concentration of the additive determined to be functionally effective in a food or food category and agreed to be safe by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. It is generally expressed as mg additive/kg of food. The maximum use level will not usually correspond to the optimum, recommended, or typical level of use. Under GMP, the optimum, recommended, or typical use level will differ for each application of an additive and is dependent on the intended technical effect and the specific food in which the additive would be used, taking into account the type of raw material, food processing and post-manufacture storage, transport and handling by distributors, retailers, and consumers.

I have worked in a grocery store for 12 years, and have worked in food for 15+(meaning I’ve had my safe food handlers card for that same length of time)
Do NOT buy bulging food.
Any product that has a dome, whether can or plastic or other, is NOT safe to eat.
Any product with a tear in the packaging that exposes the food is NOT safe to eat.
Any good in the refrigerated section that is warm to the touch is NOT safe to eat.
Any food that has staining on the packaging, maybe just from an item that leaked on it?, I wouldn’t eat. Technically it’s safe to sell, but be wary.
Also the stories I could tell…like how TECHNICALLY (horrifyingly) refrigerated food that’s been sitting out for over 4 hours, as long as it’s temping under 41F, can still “safely” be sold. 👀
Be careful kids, and be aware of safe food handling! Even if you don’t work with food it’s SO important to know.
My states Food Handlers Course is free to take, you pay $10 AT THE END to get the actual certification. But anyone can take the test. And get the knowledge. Including basic kitchen safety like how to thaw frozen food, how to separate cutting boards, and how to store food in the fridge.
You don’t know you’re lacking knowledge until you learn. So please learn.

Hey kids, wanna learn what signs of botulism look like?
#food#ready to eat food#rte good#food handlers card#food workers#safe food handling#grocery store#food safety#seriously take the course#it could save you from gastrointestinal distress!

Amid a deluge of executive actions, the Trump administration has directed federal health agencies to pauseexternal communications, such as regular scientific reports, updates to websites and health advisories, according to sources within the agencies.
The initial orders were delivered Tuesday to staff at agencies inside the US Department of Health and Human Services, including to officials at the US Food and Drug Administration, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Institutes of Health, according to the Washington Post, which first reported the story.
The direction came without warning and with little guidance as to what exactly it covered, according to sources inside the affected agencies who asked not to be named because they were not authorized to share the information.
In a follow-up memo obtained by CNN on Wednesday, Acting Health Secretary Dr. Dorothy Fink provided additional details, including that the directive would be in effect through February 1.
The memo told health agency employees to have all documents and communications - including regulations, guidance, notices, social media, websites and press releases - reviewed and approved by a presidential appointee before issuing them. It also directed employees not to participate in any public speaking engagements without approval, and to coordinate with presidential appointees before issuing official correspondence to members of Congress or governors.
“As the new Administration considers its plan for managing the federal policy and public communications processes, it is important that the President’s appointees and designees have the opportunity to review and approve any regulations, guidance documents, and other public documents and communications (including social media),” Fink said in the memo.
The directive also told employees to notify higher-ups of any documents or communications that should be exempt either because they’re required by law or because they’re critical for health, safety or other reasons. Already Wednesday morning, the FDA sent out a communication about a safety warning added to the multiple sclerosis drug glatiramer acetate, which goes by brand names including Copaxone, for a “rare but serious allergic reaction.”
A source familiar with the directive said that while it wasn’t entirely unheard of for an incoming administration to ask for a pause to review information before it’s publicly released, the scope of the order appeared to be unusual. Another said there were no similar restrictions on communications issued at the beginning of the last two administrations, and said employees were fearful about their jobs.
America’s health agencies, including the CDC, FDA and the NIH, routinely release information on food recalls, drug and medical device approvals, as well as updates on evolving public health threats including natural disasters and infectious diseases. Many of the agencies have been closely tracking and reporting new information on the H5N1 bird flu outbreak, which is spreading in the nation’s poultry flocks and dairy cattle and among people who work with those animals.
“Not a day goes by when CDC isn’t tracking a potential threat to our health,” Dr. Richard Besser, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and former acting director of the CDC said in a statement. “Right now they are letting us know about bird flu in cows, birds, and people. Every time there is an outbreak involving a food, they let us know how to avoid getting sick. They let us know where diseases are occurring around the world that could affect our health here or if we travel. Cutting off communications from CDC puts our health at risk and prevents our doctors, nurses, and public health leaders in our communities from doing their jobs. I urge the administration to quickly lift the pause.”
#US politics#public health#I guess we take our chances because no food recalls#also if H5N1 becomes a pandemic they'll handle it by not officially saying anything#I sure feel safe now

Some thoughts I have on Fuyuhiko's sweet tooth:
In the game, he clearly loves junk food and sweets (you can even peep a stash he has in his room), and he's secretive about it/finds it embarrassing when Hajime mentions it.
So from this, most likely he was told at some point that it's "not proper" for the heir of a clan to eat sweets, probably directly from his parents. Given the strict upbringing he underwent, there also would've been strong enforcement around the policy.
The Kuzuryuus would've had servants in the household as well, including when it comes to meal prep, so only proper food befitting the head family would be prepared. Fancy, decadent stuff for a refined, adult palette. Not the nuggets and fries a kid truly craved.
So he was shamed away from junk food and prevented from having it, but he hard wanted to indulge on it, as is most children's right to do so. He's seen other kids with treats in their lunches, maybe even had snacks at school. It's a normal thing for everyone but him. Another painful way he stands out.
This leads into him sneaking sweets wherever he can. Incredible over-indulgence due to being denied them in his everyday. It's a guilty pleasure, a pocket of joy that he's not supposed to have because it looks bad on the clan (which already scrutinizes him and Natsumi).
So while him threatening people over basically anything is characteristic, methinks there's a deeper bit to that little trait of his.
#definitely overthinking this sliver of interaction but hey what else is fandom meant to do#I've got more thoughts on how chapter 4 might've also fucked with his food insecurity but I'll leave those for now#and also the post-Programme life would've been harsh to him#but also fully possible he was trained to handle himself in extreme situations idk#i be thinking and chatting#danganronpa#sdr2#danganronpa spoilers#just to be safe#fuyuhiko kuzuryuu#cw food#cw food mention

I'm doing something dangerous and looking at cats that are up for adoption and I came across this beautiful 10+ year old black cat called Laura and I'm in love

#I have the space for another cat now#but it's doubling the cost of food and litter than has me concerned about getting Socks a friend#that and I'm not sure how he'd handle another cat invading his safe space#It'd be like £90 a month for wet food alone if whatever new cat I adopt is as big as Socks xD

allergies are literally legally classified as a disability under the ADA in the united states.

an allergic reaction is a medical event and can potentially be a medical emergency that requires medication and/or hospitalization. the amount of work that goes into managing a food allergy is unfathomable for those not affected by it. and the lack of education about food allergies is ridiculous.
My hot take is that actually food allergies are a disability and more people need to realize that. The amount of research people with food allergies have to do when they want to go visit places but arent sure if they’ll have access to any food there is insane. Allergy friendly food is almost ALWAYS incredibly expensive in stores bc of all those fucking fad diets that like yoga instructors and middle age soccer moms make popular. And on top of the price, it is so hard to FIND! Almost evrry grocery store ive been to has a tiny ass allergy section that is almost always near empty. Plus what about people who don’t have the money to pay 10$ for a loaf of bread? You go to starbucks and non-dairy milks are like 70 cents extra? People are definitely out there buying and eating stuff that is destroying their digestive systems because they have no other choice. I am begging people to stop pretending that catering to people’s food allergies is elitist and not worth is. We need to make these options openly available.
#i had an allergic reaction just the other day#i took a drink of my mom's soda and half an hour later my throat was swelling up cuz my mom had had peanuts over 6 hours earlier#i've had an allergic reaction cuz i shook hands with someone who had handled peanut butter#i can't eat at thai or chinese restaurants because of cross contamination#over christmas my family went out to a chinese restaurant and i had a panic attack from my ocd making me worried about cross contamination#i've been to the er multiple times from allergic reactions#i have probably at least 10 each year ranging in severity#when you look up the symptoms of anaphylaxis one thing that's never included is fatigue#it makes you EXHAUSTED#because your body is working overtime to fight the allergen#and benadryl fucks you up man#it makes me so loopy#i makes me act very drunk#and i'm lucky that my allergies are in the top 9 allergens#there are over 200 known food allergens and only NINE OF THEM are legally required to be on food labels in the united states#the allergy friendly food that op mentioned is usually only guaranteed safe from the top 9 allergens#allergy awareness is something that i am very passionate about#if you can't tell
