So my idea for Snow White's parents is that her mother is actually Rose Red of the "Snow White and Rose Red" fairytale.

She and her sister live with their aging mother in a cottage at the edge of the Kingdom, just inside the Enchanted Forest. And one winter's day when the girls are about 12 a talking bear, just a bit older then a cub, comes and seeks shelter with them.

This repeats for several years, and the three become friends, though the bear never reveals to them how he came to be able to talk.

The girls also have several run ins with a strange dwarf who has been seemingly cast out of the Dwarf community and is wandering the woodlands alone. Eachtime they try to help him out a scrape he's gotten into he curses and grumbles about people minding their own buisness, and seems to be hiding a rather large stash of jewels somewhere, if the bits of diamonds and pearls and coins he drops are any indication.

When the girls are both 18, Rose Red meets a young man traveling through the woods, searching for any clues to the fate of his elder brother that was lost years ago. He and Rose Red begin to bond as she tries to help him and it is revealed that the young man is infact the newly crowned King Leopold of the Kingdom of Andalasia, and of course at one point the girls and the prince run into the dwarf and the bear.

Eventually it all comes out that the Bear is actually the long lost brother of Leopold, Prince Orson, who wandered into the woods as a child on his first royal hunting trip and was unlucky enough to stumble upon the Dwarf's stache of treasure, stolen from the halls of the Dwarf King who lives in the tallest of the Seven Mountains.

Amoung these treasures was magic ring that the dwarf used to curse the meddling prince into the form of a bear, and the prince had been chasing after the dwarf ever since to force him to reverse the spell.

All is put right, Orson's curse is broken and he and Leopold marry Snow White and Rose Red, with Orson letting his brother keep the crown and throne as he hasn't really had any statescraft training since he was 13 years old.

(Unfortunately I think Orson and og Snow White end up passing away, perhaps from an illness. And this loss is part of what prompts Queen Rose Red to name her daughter after her beloved sister)
