I just want to make one thing very clear. Black and brown people, especially Muslims right now, don't owe white people for your allyship in racial justice. Not even those who are themselves systemically marginalized in some way. Not white Jews, not white queers, not white disabled, not white working class, not white poor.

Whiteness is the most lethal kind of oppression because it built the current colonial capitalist, imperialist world order. Every white person benefits from and is complicit in its systems in some way because white supremacy is global. Whatever marginalization has white people in it can be and is easily weaponized against the mellanated. When charged with your racist, exclusionary and oppressive behaviour you hold up Black and brown people of the same marginalizations as tokens. This is the only time they are ever visible; more often than not you profit off their labour, hoard their gains, throw them under the bus and make them part of your iconography for liberal progress points once they're dead and have no inconvenient opinions about your conduct.

This is why it's very hard for Black and brown people to take accusations of bigotry towards you in good faith. We also have a duty of care towards others but more often than not it feels like you want us to do what you want while holding a knife to our necks. Even when you don't do it directly, you issue demands like "if you don't do x and y you clearly don't care about my people and deserve the worst!!!" without considering for a moment that the full brunt of that policing will always fall on Black and brown people, because punitive justice exercises itself first and foremost on the vulnerable. If your demands for allyship carry disproportionate punishment for Black and brown people should we refuse, you're just on some power trip and never needed our help in the first place. This also obfuscates the needs and disenfranchisement of BIPOC Jewish, queer, poor, disabled and Global South people, because without racial justice, few of your gains will ever materialise in their lives. It's always trickle down liberation for the rest of us.

Your allyship is supposed to be the work of conscience, a recognition of injustice and a drive towards privilege equal to your own. For white people, it's an individual reparation on your part. It is not an act of kindness, or benevolence, or a transaction that must be repaid in kind. The worst of us deserve the same rights the worst of you already have. That's the meaning of equality. If you're willing to let us get fired, deported, or brutally murdered for bad behaviour, then not only were you never an ally, you were also just waiting for the opportunity to use that weapon you claim you never wanted. There is no justice in an asymmetry of power.

Yes, thank you for asking! Our city wasn't the target, unlike yesterday, but there were still a lot of people in the underground, due to our neighborhood being under attack yesterday. I think if another big air raid happens in the next few nights, we're still going to go to the subway, even though it is very uncomfortable. Then the shock will wear off and ppl will hope that staying at home away from windows would be enough to be safe. Idk, it's just interesting to me how wartime "safe" cities work and how our psyche is influenced even away from the frontline.

Still, the main targets tonight were Kharkiv, which was left without light and electricity completely, and Dnipro, with our hydro-electrostation Dniprohes being targeted and damaged as the result of the air raid. Other cities all over Ukraine were also the targets and I'm a bit too sleepy to name all of the damage at the moment, but I can post about it later. The Dnipro dam station is stabilized, but still, the damage of this air raid exceeds all damage to our infrastructure and energy systems during this winter. This has been one of the most destructive air raids infrastructure wise in the past few months, I would say. Not even talking about the wounded and killed civilians, man, it was haunting just to read messages about sonic missiles hitting Kharkiv one after another. And Sumy being targeted in the past time, so many victims... I'm really glad to be alive and well and I hope to help somehow, even just by encouraging ppl to donate, and by sharing the news here, on Tumblr

I have to believe that the small things I do matter even though I barely get any notice or feedback. Probably because they're so small people barely notice them. Even small things take a lot of effort from me, or seem to.

I have hope, otherwise I wouldn't do them and would give up.

I do wish I could do more than just small things. At least know i made a difference in some way. Perhaps these things are too small... well, they do matter but larger things would make more of an impact. If I could do more than just post things on social media that barely get any response. (Or have enough $ to give more than just a drop in the bucket) Or if I could help the people who really need it, be part of rescuing them. Make a difference so i actually help save someone, and so I know that I'm not just doing just the minimum, barely above nothing.

Small things matter, but larger things matter more since they actually help get things done rather than being a tiny pinpoint against the dark (so small most ppl might need a telescope)

I want to be able to help more, be someone who can do something meaningful for the things I care about. But am I even capable of more than this -- mentally or emotionally capable of doing something meaningful. Having the capacity to do something valuable that someone actually wants (research/writing that helps the ones being hurt by russia; fight Russian propaganda; raise awareness/ be an influencer-- be an expert that people listen to and respect-- "make the world a better place") - how when I'm the sort of person (could i become stronger, tougher when I'm this sensitive artist-- part of the reason I care in the 1st place...) that falls apart at small amount of pressure-- if things got so bad I was threatened with prison, bodily harm-- would i back down? Would I acquiesce bc I was too scared? Have convictions but suppress them? Or by "accepting" the awful reality, the evil overlords, would I begin to gradually accept what they do-- I would be responsible for allowing them to hurt others. But i wouldn't be able to do much against them in the 1st place. One could easily expect this cowardly position from me despite my convictions-- but would it come down to it, would i make the right choice? What would going to prison do other than hurt me- no one would notice. I would know. Someone has to stand up to it... if no one does, if they all give in, of course the darkness wins then. Few would notice if i died standing up for what's right. Being such an insignificant person, how much would it matter either way. Perhaps it would make a difference in some way... perhaps give my life meaning... or perhaps standing up for it would mean staying true to my convictions, true to myself... do i really believe it if I'm not willing to sacrifice for it. I would at least find out what i was made of, if I was capable of doing the right thing under impossible pressure (somehow not fall apart.... find the strength in the end
