Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III x Fem!Reader Synopsis: four of the many times hiccup was oblivious to the fact he was in love with you and the time he finally realised. Word Count: 1.5K Tags: 4+1 fic, Fluff, Hiccups pov Note: started this ages ago and only just got inspired enough to finish it.
1. Searching for you in a crowd
Hiccup would never admit it, even now that he is respected as the heir to the hairy hooligan tribe and his father is proud of him. That he still feels like an outsider.
Maybe it’s because they see him as this dragon master and while he might be if he’s to listen to anything Fishlegs says- he feels like they don’t see anything else- he is still just the chief’s son, the future of the tribe or their saviour if any of his work on the edge was talked about. He was never just Hiccup to them, even to his friends they see him as this omnipotent being rather than just a teen like them- capable of making mistakes.
He suggests that this is why he prefers to have time alone- just him, toothless the ocean beneath them and the wind carrying them elsewhere, where he can be anything.
Annoyingly, this is not something he can do now: walking into the great hall at dinner time. He can already feel the beginnings of a headache wracking his brain as he imagines the awkward conversations he is going to have with villagers about his work on the edge as of late or the nagging of his father and Gobber to come back to Berk so he can learn the ways of chiefdom- something he is unsure that he even wants.
Entering the great hall after a large exhale, Hiccup looks around, searching for something lips pursing when he can’t find it immediately. It is only when he walks closer to where his father is sat, calling out pleasantries to those who greet him on the way that his eyes lock onto your figure, listening intently to what Ruffnut and Tuffnut are saying. Following the movements of their arms with your eyes as they spoke animatedly about who knows what. Hiccup finds a small smile appear on his face at the sight of you, only looking away when his father claps a hand behind his back making him aware of his surroundings, turning towards his father struggling to listen to whatever issue his father needs resolving around Berk this time, his thoughts still surrounding his best friend, knowing that as long as you are here he can be himself, just Hiccup. As that was always more than enough for you and that idea alone makes him feel less like an outsider.
2. Missing you when apart
He was starting to regret saying you couldn’t come with him. Not that he doesn’t enjoy Astrid and (sometimes) Snotlout’s company, but it clearly isn’t the same. While he usually enjoys scouting missions as they are a peaceful opposition to the dangerous missions they have had as of late, you typically come with him.
But he knows that you cannot leave the edge defenceless and Astrid was complaining about not getting out with Stormfly enough- so it all made sense logically for Astrid to come instead and for you to stay on land, protecting the dragon eye lenses the group had hidden.
He couldn’t trust anyone more which is why he was confused as to why he felt so anxious. Even Toothless could notice the angst radiating off his rider, making a noise of questioning at Hiccup when he was quieter than normal, not even going over the route the group were scouting- something he usually did a hundred times until the group got annoyed at him. Not even playfully joking with Snotlout about who was the better cousin until Astrid would make a comment that would set Snotlout off arguing with her.
Instead, the three riders sat in somewhat awkward silence with Astrid and Snotlout starting at each other trying to gauge if the other knew what was wrong with the boy and who was going to ask him as seemingly neither wanted to as usually you would look after Hiccup when he got like this but you were back on the edge and honestly Astrid was wishing she didn’t kick up such a fuss about her and Stormfly’s lack of action as even being bored back on the edge was better than being sat in this haunting silence.
It was only upon returning to the edge that the two saw his mood pick up, he nearly crashed Toothless into the ground at the speed he dismounted causing the other two to look around in panic until they saw him running towards you and then it all made sense. The two snickering slightly as they realised that he was only in a foul mood because you weren't around.
3. You looking after him when he gets sick
“It was only a matter of time” you muttered to him as you bundled him up in his blankets and he knew that you were right, you had been telling him for weeks to wear some warmer clothes during his flights with Toothless and his lack of listening has left him bedridden with a horrible cold, head pounding, nose blocked and red cheeks. He could only imagine the state of him somehow shaking and sweating all at the same time. He would’ve replied with something teasing if his throat didn’t feel so scratchy so he simply settled for a huff which made you laugh quietly in return.
“Okay, I will stop being mean, but only if you get some sleep” you reasoned with the boy as he whined at the idea thinking of everything he had to today
“I will get Astrid and Fishlegs to take your jobs for the day- can't have you getting any sicker what would your Father say?” you continued and at these words, the boy stopped fussing, the exhaustion finally catching up to him.
“Have a good sleep Hiccup, I will be here when you wake up,” you muttered as he dozed off.
For some reason, Hiccup couldn’t understand those words made him feel so much better.
4. When his dad mentions you
Small talk with his father even after all this time was still somewhat awkward, like the feeling of your skin being too big for your bones. But, it was much better than it used to be or at least Hiccup usually believed it was. Still, today he would give anything to be anywhere but sit with his dad in their family home as he couldn’t stop going on about you and possibly betrothals something Hiccup knew would annoy you.
“I heard a lot of the boys around here want to ask for her hand, so maybe you should get a move on” Stoick spoke trying to hint at the boy's clear feelings for you
“I- what?” Hiccup asked confused, when had he ever shown interest in that?
“Oh it's nothing” Stoick tried to cover his tracks feeling Hiccups in annoyance at his words ‘you two just remind me of myself and a special someone when I was younger”
“What are you and Gobber? I’m sure she will be very flattered by those words Dad” Hiccup laughed before quickly taking his leave before his father could sprout out any more nonsense.
“Me and your mother” Stoick muttered but Hiccup was already gone, probably halfway back to the edge due to how fast he bolted out the door.
5. The realisation
Watching you interact with Toothless was one of Hiccup's favourite things to do. Seeing his dragon take a shine to you just as much as he does makes a warmth spread all over his body in a comforting way.
“Hiccup, my brother! What’s happening?” Tuffnut called out as he made his way towards the boy Hiccup quickly looked away from you for some reason embarrassed to be nearly caught by the boy, his cheeks red and hot
“Not- not a lot” Hiccup tried to smile but it came off uneasy much like his words. To his luck, Tuffnut didn't seem to notice instead looking at where Hiccup had his eyes trained just moments before before looking back at the boy
“Don’t worry I see” Tuffnut nodded in understanding causing Hiccup to become confused
“See what?” he questioned the peculiar boy
“You were finally building up the courage to ask her out!” Tuffnut declared “I mean it’s about time everyone knows you have the biggest crush on her! Don’t let me stop you, in fact, I wasn't even here!” the boy quickly ran off as Hiccup's thoughts whirled around his brain about what on earth was Tuffnut on about he didn’t have a crush on you. No way. I mean sure you are the first person he looks for in a crowd of people, he gets irritable when you aren't with him on missions, you are the only one he would want looking after him and his father loves you but that doesn't mean he likes you right- your his best friend he couldn't possibly- could he?
Then it hit Hiccup, he did have the biggest crush on his best friend, more than a crush really. He was irrevocably in love with you and to make matters worse Tuffnut knew before he did.

~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~\/~
Ruffnut
It was a foggy day, Ruffnut's favorite kind of weather. The fog allowed her to get away with a lot, dropping leaches into people's boots, then running away as their screams fade behind her, putting up big nets in the woods and giggling as she hears a innocent viking who just wanted to fly with their dragon scream as the net sends them tumbling down to the forest floor, and of course, sneaking small bits of sardine into people's belongings, a classic. Ruffnut casually walked out of her house, hiding the small bag of sardine bits behind her back, not that that hid the revolting smell, but was jumpscared by a wide-eyed Fishlegs, resulting in Ruffnut throwing the bag of sardine bits straight at Fishlegs' face. "Woah! Watch it pal! You can't just jump out at me like that!" Ruffnut crossed her arms and stuck her nose in the air, slightly turning away from the coughing Fishlegs. "[Name]..." Fishlegs manged to cough out, immediately catching Ruffnut's attention. "What about [Name]?" She asks, turning back towards Fishlegs. "You need to- *cough* pick [preferred pronouns] up from- *cough* *cough* Gothi's hut..." Ruffnut's eyes narrowed in frustration. "You're not giving me the whole story Fishface!" Ruffnut raises her voice, concerned for you, but Fishlegs couldn't get any more words out, the fowl smell of the sardines were too much. Ruffnut sighed in frustration and ran to Gothi's hut. Ruffnut's eyes widened at the sight of you curled up on the floor, leaning against a couple of boxes, covered with bandages from head to toe. "Odin's beard! What happened to you?!" Ruffnut spead-walks over to you and crouches down in front of you, gently resting a hand on your shoulder. Ruffnut was being much gentler than she's ever was. "You know what, you can tell me when we get home, can you walk?"
Always has one hand on you, whether it be to guide you through crowds, to push you back down when you try to get up from bed, or to just stroke your cheek with her thumb.
Tries to distract you from the pain by flirting or just teasing you by either verbal compliments or teasing touches.
I hope you like kisses cause you'll be practically showered in them, especially when you wake up, Ruffnut grabs the collar of your shirt to make sure you can't get away.
Braids your hair when you're asleep to calm her anxieties. She's usually never anxious, but she's afraid this'll happen again in the future, but you won't be alive that time.
Ruffnut is already protective of you, but now she's even more protective, always looking around for threats, and she even hissed at a viking that got too close once.
DON'T LET HER COOK FOR YOU!!! She'll accidentally poison you, listen, it's better to get Fishlegs, Astrid, or Hiccup to drop off meals for you, just try to keep it a secret...
Ruffnut is actually really good at giving massages and will message any tension you have away, even if you didn't ask, but she'll stop if you tell her too.
Cooes to you like you're a baby or an injured animal. It can get annoying at times, especially when she does it in public.
Talks. Your. Ear. Off. Every. Single. Day. Good luck!
Tuffnut
Tuffnut walked around berk, looking for you, he was very clingy compared to his sister, Ruffnut. This morning, he woke up, and when he ran to your hut to convince you to pull some pranks with him, you didn’t answer the door, which earned a distressed whine from Tuffnut, but he decided to wait before fully freaking out. But now it was evening, and he was getting more panicked. “[Naaaame]!” He called out, cupping his hands around his mouth, and ignoring the weird stares he was getting from vikings walking by. “[Naaaaaaaaame]!!!” Tuffnut called out again, sounding even more distressed than before. While calling out for you, he saw Astrid landing Stormfly near the great hall, giving Tuffnut the idea to ask Astrid if she knew where you were. “Astrid! Astrid! ASTRID!!!” Astrid’s head snapped towards Tuffnut, her eyes narrowing. "What, Tuffnut!?” Tuffnut stopped running and put his hands on his knees to catch his breath, then looked up at Astrid with wide eyes. “Have you seen [Name]?” Astrid’s gaze softened as she heard the worry in Tuffnut’s voice, she knew this feeling too well. "Oh, did you not hear?” Tuffnut’s eyes wided and he tightly grabbed Astrid’s arm, shaking her roughly. "Hear what!? What was I supposed to hear Astrid?!” Astrid’s annoyance returned, and she no longer felt sympathy towards Tuffnut. Astrid pushed Tuffnut back roughly, ignoring his panicked whining and sniffling. "She got badly injured! She was escorted to her hut after seeing Gothi just a few minutes ago!” Tuffnut immediately turned around to run back to your hut, screaming your name along the way, annoying all of berks residents on the way there. Tuffnut barged into your house, ran to your bedroom, and you had to stop him from jumping on you. “[Name]! Why weren’t you answering my calls?! Why weren’t you answering me?!” Tuffnut shrieked, not taking into account that Gothi’s hut was isolated and tall. You had to hold him for a while for him to calm down.
Now he’s even more clingy, if that wasn’t obvious. You’re practically always pinned to the bed due to all his limbs being wrapped around yours. But on the bright side, he’s way more willing to do favors for you, unless they involve being away from you for a long time.
It’ll be hard to get sleep considering that every time you fall asleep, he thinks that’s you dying or going into a coma, so you’ll be shaken awake and then you’ll have to comfort Tuffnut, it’s worse if you’re a heavy sleeper.
Way more skittish than before, jumping at the sound of wind blowing, pulling you behind him when a terrible terror comes out of a ally, and maybe trying to fist fight people that get too close (especially if it’s Ruffnut).
He’s not a very good cook, but it’s better than Ruffnut’s cooking, still, take caution, he might have added a little too much oyster sauce to your soup.
Loves to read to you while reading out loud in a dramatic voice and dramatic hand gestures (he might accidentally slap you from time to time…).
Always insists on checking your injuries when you have to change your bandages, but ends up grimacing at the sight of the fresh wounds, then ugly crying later. He calms down slowly as you heal.
Loves to wash you, mostly because it’s a excuse to run his fingers through your hair, but don’t let him use any of his products to wash you or you’ll be smelling like rotten egg.

the thing i disliked most about httyd 3 was its villain. he's just a worse viggo. at least double down on the "dark mirror of hiccup" aspect, a lanky little inventor who used his gadgets not to save and help dragons but to subjugate and enslave them.
I don't really like Grimmel as a parallel for Hiccup anyway as both Viggo as well as Drago were better examples of this. You can't just grab a lanky guy, make him smart and say "look! he's lanky and smart! And he also faced a Night Fury, except he killed it! 😈"
Like, maybe that could've gone somewhere, but I distinctly remember the mention somewhere of that Night Fury being asleep when he snuck up on it and killed it. At least Toothless was awake and Hiccup had to look him in the eye as he tried to make up his mind about whether he had it in him to actually kill this dragon or not. Grimmel took out a completely defenseless creature and didn't even need to look it in the eye when he did it. Then he ran away with that "honor," thinking it would get him respect. (which supposedly it did? The movie wasn't really clear on that)
And then he supposedly singlehandedly took out the entire Night Fury race, arguably one of the strongest dragon species out there. A dragon so elusive no one on Berk before Hiccup could even describe it in the 300 years since they settled on that island. (And that's not taking the shows in account, with RttE celebrating Berk's 400th! anniversary. That's almost 400 years of not knowing what a Night Fury looked like, just what they sounded like and the kind of damage they could do. Night Furies were the Giant Squid equivalant of cryptids before Hiccup.)
And Grimmel made this claim while missing the single most conspicuous Night Fury for six whole years. Can't say you made sure an extremely elusive dragon species went extinct if you miss the one Night Fury that everybody in the Archipelago and Drago's forces know exactly where to find and you were surprised to hear about.
At least Hiccup can actually say that he killed the Red Death and that is a thousand times more impressive than... killing a sleeping dragon.
Viggo, on the other hand, was so much better for a parallel. Smart, cunning, and as ruthless as Hiccup was compassionate, both living a lifestyle that heavily involves dragons and at the end of the day, they had similar effects on one another.
Viggo was the first villain Hiccup lost to in three years and that made him obsessed with taking him down. Then Hiccup was the one who kept consistently winning and that made Viggo obsessed with taking him down. They really did bring out the worst out of each other before coming to some kind of bittersweet understanding and farewell in Triple Cross.
Drago was better, too. He was the brute force that Hiccup could've been as a Dragon Master. I don't think it's not for nothing that Httyd 2 literally introduces us to three of them. Hiccup, Valka, and Drago. (With Valka representing who Hiccup could've been if he did leave in Httyd 1)
Both amputees, both limbs lost to the dragons both of their entire lives have always revolved around. Except Hiccup didn't let his loss and the fact that he grew up at war with dragons make him hate and use dragons while Drago did. Drago was even as devastating as Hiccup was powerful, both bringing immense change wherever they went, whether for better or for worse. So if we want to look at Hiccup's version of "what if Superman was evil?" then Httyd 2 gave us a good representation of that already.
No need for lanky, smart guys, whose best plans were "hey, maybe we can make this Night Fury horny for a different species of Fury" and "what if Ruffnut just happens to be stupid enough to draw the entire Northern Alliance back to New Berk, besides having 6 years of battle experience herself." (RttE did her right at least)
And don't even get me started on how this Night Fury killer... knows nothing about Night Furies. I'm not even talking about him missing Toothless for six years straight, I'm talking about his statement that Night Furies do terribly in the cold despite nothing in the Httyd movie universe proving as such.
Neither in the movies, nor in either of the Christmas specials. (and that's ignoring the tv-shows and comics, which I refuse to.) Even Homecoming seems to have forgotten as Toothless traveled back to New Berk after 10 years of living in the Hidden World when one is clearly in the middle of winter and the other was still lush and green. He showed absolutely no signs of struggling in this sudden change in temperature. (Not even with a tailfin that should've broken at least 9 years ago from a lack of maintenance or, say, dragon fights or accidents. Can't expect this disabled dragon to "return to the wild" and then not get into fights.)
And then there is Grimmel's statement about how Night Furies... Dragons with a wing span the size of a small jet... AREN'T long-distance fliers when just a tiny little google search is all you need to find out that a long wingspan is perfect for long distance flight!

----------------------------------------------
Snotlout x Shy Scarred Reader:
• Rumors were quick to spread amongst the masses of this tiny island that you called home. How could they not? With Berks size and the twins being the ones to stir the rumor mill pot everyone was subject for at least one rumor at all times. That includes yourself.
• Growing up on Berk you developed a sort of reputation over the years for being on the more quiet side. That wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that you don't look the most welcoming either. As you got older the extra tattoos you added onto your body, combined with your stone cold demeanor, and overall silent by nature aura let's just say you didn't have a lot of friends growing up.
• What made it all worse were your scars. Now scars on a Viking are not out of the norm but they didn't help your case any. Before Hiccup became tamer of the Dragons many assumed you got your scars from said Dragons but time would leave people guessing. The twins especially. Since the Dragons are our friends now one would assume you'd stop getting scars, correct? Nope! Each year was worse, and now you have a pretty sizable scar running up your neck and on your chin that definitely wasn't there before the Dragon wars.
•You were eating alone in the Mead Hall as usual and part of this routine Included overhearing the twins come up with wacky theories as to how you got your scars.
• Tuffnut: Well if she didn't get her scars from a wicked Dragon fight then maybe, just maybe, she's actually an assassin!! She goes out every night to go fight pirates on the beach and thats's how she gets her scars.
• Ruffnut: That's so cool!
• Hiccup was there to desculate the situation.
• Hiccup: No not cool! Tuffnut you know we don't get pirates here and stop making up things about people who you clearly don't know anything about.
• Tuffnut: Well I don't see YOU trying to talk to them.
• Hiccup: *Flustered* Ack well I uh . ..I'm very busy you know doing dragon training and managing the school . . and
• Ruffnut: *teasingly* and you're sacaaaared!
• Astrid: *a bit annoyed* knock it off guys, but the twins are right Hiccup. We DON'T know anything about them and yet they're not doing a whole lot of talking either. I mean their our age and they have more scars than your dad! What IS someone like that doing to get that beat up in life?
• That thought process was enough to get the gang to quiet down and it was enough to get you pissed off. It wasn't like you were being quiet on purpose!! But even when you tried talking to other people they always looked spooked. Clenching your fists you felt anger building in you, yet you had no way to release it.
• Fishlegs was the only one to notice your mood sour from across the hall.
• Fishlegs: uh guys . . I think we might have poked the sleeping dragon.
• Hiccup: Well maybe we should try talking to them ourselves?
• Fishlegs: I volunteer not myself!!
• Hiccup: Twins?
• Tuffnut: I volunteer Ruffnut!!!
• Ruffnut: Hey that's MY line but uh replace my name with yours!!
• Hiccup: *sighing* Astrid?
• Astrid: Hiccup?
• Watching this scene go down before him Hiccup was ready to go talk to you himself that was until Snotlout decided to volunteer for the job.
• Snotlout: Sounds like this requires the good old Snotlout charm. *he says with suave and swagger*
• Before Hiccup could try and stop him, Snotlout was already sauntering over to you. Arriving at your spot he was so caught up in trying do his "flirtatious spiel" he was startled when you got a good look at ths scar on your neck.
• Snotlout: Well hello babe noticed you sitting all by yourself and felt pulled to your presence. Thought I might introduce myseeeeelf . . and Oh Is that new???!
• Feeling immediate embarrassment you couldn't even look him in the eyes as you did your best to try and cover the scar and scramble on out of here.
• Snotlout: *Trying to stop you* No no no wait!!! That's . . . that's cool!! Yeah! I mean I have scars myself too from all the hard workouts and fights I get into *he says while trying to flex*. Yeah uh got some in "hard to see places" *he winks* wouldn't mind showing you if you can handle all of this.
• Well now you're embarrassed for a different reason. A large blush formed on your face as your hands went to cover it. Staring at him you could tell he was a bit nervous himself talking to you. You hadn't said anything at all and you weren't sure where to begin especially compared to an opening like that. Shamefuly all you could muster out was a meek "Ha!"
• Snotlout: . . . .Ha??
• (Y/N): . H .Hey. .
• Snotlout: *A blush similar to your own was forming on his face* . . .uh . hi?
• Feeling the embarrassment take hold once more all the pressure in the air was crushing you and you needed to leave lest you keel over and die right in front of him.
• (Y/N): *Softly* Sounds good . . great talk. Goodbye.
• And with that you dipped leaving Snotlout a flustered mess. Trying to hide his own blush you couldn't deny the emotions stiring inside him. Holy shit you sounded so cute.
• Replaying the scene in your head kept you up half the night. Well could you blame yourself? You looked like dork and not to mention you sounded like one too. Though it can't be helped it's not like you had much experience talking to other people before. Not to mention this was the first time someone even attempted to talk to you first. And part of you wished it was the last, as days after that event happened Snotlout made it his own personal goal to try and get you to talk more.
• And it somewhat worked. Kind of? It was rough, like really rough to get you to not only open up more but for the gang to accept you as a new friend. The twins had to learn to not treat you like a spectacle and something to gawk at. Fishlegs needed to be reminded that you weren't going to secretly stab them all in your sleep and Astrid and Hiccup had to learn how to communicate with someone who well . didn't. But with time and much patience all would see that beyond your cold appearance you were a sweet and caring person on the inside. Of course your voice would only be for Snotlout and Snotlout only, not that he minded, but without a voice to be heard people still tried to "piece together" the puzzle that were your scars when in reality there was no mystery to be solved.
• Sitting on a quiet ledge overlooking the waves that crash along the coast of Berk you let out a deep sigh. This alerted Snotlout who was sitting idle alongside you who was sharpening his axe to pass the time.
• Snotlout: What's wrong?
• You didn't realize your thoughts had translated into reality as you tried to play off your emotions as you always did.
• (Y/N): oh . . . nothing.
• Snotlout only gave you an unamused stare not letting up until you spoke.
• (Y/N): *sheepish* Ach well . . uh . .It's nothing really . . just oh I don't know I'm just . . *frustrated* I'm still so sick of everyone making a big fuss of my scars. They're really nothing to talk about.
• Snotlout stopped what he was doing to give his full attention to you knowing how hard it is for you to speak up even to him.
• Snotlout: *teasing* well you don't do a good job explaining.
• (Y/N): . . ..I know.
• Snotlout: They're just curious.
• (Y/N): *sighing* I know.
• As the silence filled the air once more you pondered long and hard about what you wanted to say next. You spent a lot of time recently thinking about speaking. Never having the opportunity to do so until you meet Snotlout. Speaking of him you never did thank him for trying to talk to you before. Nor did you thank him for being your first friend. Glancing at the scars the call themselves home on your skin an idea pops into your head.
• (Y/N): Say Snotlout. . . would you like to know how I got these scars?
• If his attention wasn't on you it definitely is now. Maybe his enthusiasm was a bit too apparent because you nearly jumped back when his body was suddenly planted firmly next to yours. His eyes brimming with overwhelming excitement. He can't deny he was intrigued my your scars too he just never pushed you for answers not wanting to make you feel uncomfortable.
• (Y/N): Ahh . . .well uh ...I got his one *referring to a large scar on your upper right thigh* . . trying to cut an apple.
• Snotlout: . . . what.
• (Y/N): *relaxing a bit* yeah . . .my hand slipped and the knife that I was holding ended up taking a nose dive off my counter and straight across my leg.
• Snotlout: . . . uh huh??
• (Y/N): Oh oh!! And this one *referring to a scar on your left calf* . . .my leg got caught along (Dragon's name)'s claw when I was mounting them. . . . needless to say I learned to wear longer fabric while riding on the back of a sharp fire breathing lizard. *you laugh embarrassed*
• Snotlout: . . . What??
• (Y/N): Yeah . . that wasn't fun but it's nothing compared to the one on my stomach!!
• Snotlout: . . go on.
• (Y/N): Yeah I got that one from a sparring class.
• Snotlout: Ha! Now where talking!
• (Y/N): That one was pretty embarrassing. . . It was my job to pick up disgarded weapons that were thrown around and I . . I was carrying too many at once . . . and I ended up tripping on myself and lets just say a sword caught my fall.
• Snotlout: What???!?
• And on and on and on you went explaining away each and every scar you had on your body. From the scar on your right shoulder from when you walked backwards into a tree, to the scar on your right ankle from when you were a baby. You were crawling around on the floor and got nicked by your brother's axe that was laying around. As each scar was named and explained Snotlout was coming to the realization that you weren't some cool warrior with a deep dark history. You were just some Clumsy Goober?!!! And he has feelings for said Clumsy Goober.
• (Y/N): Haha yeah and that's pretty much it. . . Oh!! The scar on my neck!
• Snotlout: *teasing* let me guess you lost a battle between you and cutting bread.
(Y/N): *pouting* . . no . . .I was trying to cut my hair. . . and my hand slipped . . again.
Now it was Snotlout's turn to sigh. Luckily it came with laughter as he pulled you into his side to try and tease you more about it.
Snotlout: Hahaha and here I thought you were some fearsome badass. No wonder you keep these to yourself. Guess you're gonna need me to hold the knives in this relationship Babe. That or your hands will be chopped off.
Blushing you become embarrassed by his words and flirting.
(Y/N): *whining* . . What does that supposed to mean?
Snotlout could only laugh as he held you closer to give you a noogie. Don't worry he's got your back weather you like it or not. Loving and teasing you every step of the way.

Since I dissociate i like to think All of the gang dissociate so hard, especially during rtte like they will be planning and hiccup will be like
Hiccup: “ok you all got that”
Snotlout raises his hand
Snotlout: “I have not present for couple days what the fuck is happening”
Hiccup: okay so-
Tuffnut also raises his hand
Tuffnut: “I don’t know what day it is”
Hiccup: oka-
Ruffnut also also rasies her hand
Ruffnut: I-
Hiccup: okay who all just got back
Que Astrid and fishlegs also raising there hands
Hiccup: okay.
They also will like ask each other how long time as passed inbetween events cause they weren’t present
Some just don’t remember events
Or like situations where they go back to berk
Stoick: Hiccup! It’s been so long since you came to visit your old man
Hiccup: what? I visited like a week ago?
Stoick: son. The last time you visited was like a month ago.
Hiccup: ….really?
Hunter: I don’t want to watch that one anymore.
Hunter: tf you talking about
Hunter: that one hasn’t blinked or moved in 3 hours
This could be any of them
Or all of them
It’s funnier when it’s all of them
Hunter: “I think the riders died”
Hunter: HWAT
Hunter: none of them have moved an inch in 6 hours
They also have moments where they just stop moving and the dragon will like just grab them by the scruff of there shirt and just bring them to there huts or one of the other riders to get them out of it
Having a hangout night
Tuffnut: oh guys! Guys! Guess what? I’ve figured out how to control that thing we do
Hiccup: wait what you did?!
Tuffnut: yeah watch this.
His eyes fuckin glaze over He’s gone he fucking somewhere else
Ruffnut: he knows how to start it just not how to get out
I know these are stereotypical but like…mine are like stereotypical somtimes leave alone

Hey! Real big fan of your stuff :)
If you had the power to- What would you change about the third movie of httyd??
First of all thank you so much!!
For the third movie? Everything.
I don't think there is a single thing I like about the third HTTYD movie (Aside from the Deathgrippers ofc, they're perfect <33)
Scrap the lightfury, I don't like her. She was made just to be feminine and that pisses me off. Her invisibility, while kinda cool, just doesn't really sit right with me. Especially since it was supposed to make her unique and then they gave Toothless the same ability two seconds later. Which leads me into my second point.
"The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself" WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE LITERAL. GIVING TOOTHLESS SKRILL POWERS AND INVISIBILTY MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE. WHY DID YOU EVEN BOTHER GIVING IT TO THE LIGHTFURY IF HE WAS ALSO GOING TO HAVE IT. FLASHY ABILITIES MAKE NO SENSE FOR A STEALTH DRAGON.
Adding on to this, Toothless should not be acting like a horny dog. He should have been a graceful, cat dragon and not what he was. Also him practically abandoning Hiccup for the Lightfury???? She tried to kill Hiccup--Toothless's BEST FRIEND--multiple times and he did nothing????
Why did Toothless become the king of the hidden world right away??? Why would he even be fit for king?
Speaking of the Hidden World, kick that out the window. It makes literally no sense. No fresh water, no food, and the habitat is NOT SUITED FOR ALL DRAGONS.
Sending to the dragons was STUPID. HICCUP. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. Not only sending them away betray the whole message of the previous two movies, that you have to fight for what you think is right, But it also gathers all the dragons in one place, with no food, water, or natural.
None of the villains were compelling at all, the Warlords were just meh, and Grimmel? Oh boy do I have something to say about him.
The ENTIRE aspect of his character is stupid. While I can get behind a nightfury hunter, you're telling me that STRINGBEAN killed ALL of the nightfuries? Not buying it. Not only were all of his facts wrong, but there's no feasible way one person killed off an entire species of dragon. There is absolutely no way he could ever cover that much area or kill that many nightfuries, even with the help of the Deathgrippers.
Ahh, the Deathgrippers. My babies, my big murder puppies. They are perfect and deserved so much better. They didn't even get to live at the end of the film. What happened to "Good dragons under the control of bad people do bad things."???? NAH, JUST STRIKE THEM OUTTA THE SKY ITS FINE. HE DIDNT EVEN TRY TO SAVE THEM.
The only bad thing I will say about them isn't even about them, it's about their venom. It was inconsistent at best and random at worst. It changed based on what the plot needed it to, and yes, the could be chocked up to it having different effects based on what it's mixed with, but Grimmel didn't even label them. It was just a random draw. Imagine him trying to knock out the Lightfury and just killing her because he didn't realize that was the really poisonous dart. The random effects makes literally no sense.
Moving onto my next point, the characters. Oh boy, the characters. Everyone was out of character from HTTYD 1/RoB/DoB/RTTE/HTTYD 2
Snotlout, my guy. Why the FUCK would you say "Who died and made you chief?"???? BROTHER YOU WERE AT STOICK'S FUNERAL. YOU CRIED, YOU MOURNED. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. NOT ONLY THAT, YOU STARTED GOING AFTER HICCUP'S MOTHER. DUDE.And Tuffnut. You would never leave Ruffnut behind. And as stated in the shows AND movies, YOU RIDE A TWO HEADED DRAGON. YOU CAN'T FLY WITHOUT A RIDER ON EACH HEAD. And you, Ruffnut. You would never lead all of the hunters/trappers right to Hiccup and all of Berk because you 'never look back'. BITCH WHAT. WHAT. Fishlegs and Eret served literally no purpose other than comedic reliefs, and the movie would be the exact same without them.
And what happened to all the riders working together??? We literally see them raid multiple places in RTTE and HTTYD 2. Heck they tricked VIGGO during Last Dragon Auction and that takes working together.
The ableism oh the ableism. What do you mean "I have a parasitic twin and you don't see me limping around about it." BROTHER HE LOST THAT LEG IN THE BATTLE WITH THE RED DEATH. PROTECTING THE ENTIRETY OF BERK FROM LITERAL DEATH.
Speaking of Berk, Hiccup would never endanger the entirety of Berk with overcrowding and bad infrastructure. Why were there so many dragons. Why didn't you expand to the rest of the island. Why didn't you rehome the dragons to different islands. Why did one dragon bumping into a tower cause so much destruction. There are so many things wrong with it.
Changing the subject back to Grimmel, it is insane that they let him win in the end. Even though he died, he won. Toothless is confirmed to be the last nightfury, and Hiccup made the dragons leave. He accomplished BOTH of his goals, kill all the nightfuries, and for dragons to not live with humans.
And back on Hiccup sending the dragons to a death pit in the middle of nowhere. There will always be bad people. Always. It's the curse of humanity and by sending the dragons you have not only gone back on the entire message of all the previous shows and films but you have doomed all of the dragons and shoehorned in an ending that doesn't fit the series.
Anyways all this will be fixed in my rewrite and thank you for listening to my rant about THW, I hope you have a nice day/night!
TLDR; THW was awful and pretty much everything needs to be changed, deathgrippers are amazing tho and are perfect as is

The Jealous One pt 4
Pairing: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III x Fem!Reader
Words: 1515
Hiccup is passive aggressive. You’re mad. He doesn’t do anything about it (yet).
Tags: fem!reader, silly, ambiguous timeline, Snotlout Jorgenson, Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston, Jealous!Hiccup, Post RoB/DoB, Pre-RTTE
<Previous - Next>
“I don’t think Snotlout realizes he can like Ruffnut yet, but Fishlegs definitely likes Ruffnut,” You said confidently, pulling up pond weeds with your hands.
Your trousers were rolled up to your ankles, one side of your skirt tucked into your waistband as your toes dug into the silt close to the shore.
Hiccup was beside you, wading in a similar fashion, although it was a bit difficult to hike up both his pantslegs when one was otherwise occupied with his prosthetic.
The trees were incredibly tall around you, enough to block out all light around the pond. Just a few beams filtered through the topmost leaves, filling the forest floor with a heady yellow glow, mites and other things filtering through them, dancing like fairies to a tune only they knew, lighting up the dark waters.
Behind you was an old, abandoned dock, small and molded and falling apart, and besides that, a bucket which you used to toss aside weeds.
Indeed, you were deep, deep in the forests around Berk, where only mystical and mysterious things ever seemed to happen.
“Really-?” Hiccup asked, voice high as his spirits seemed to be, “There’s a large one to your left.”
He indicated with a nod as you glanced over towards him, once again dipping your arms with your rolled-up sleeves into the water, sifting around until you found what he was motioning towards.
A long, dark-green frond of something which pulled easily from the mix below.
“...Is this what you and Fishlegs were talking about before?” You asked, also noticeably, to yourself, a lot less gloomy. You too had been feeling high of spirits, enough to make you feel as if you had broken your old moping patterns, “The weeds.”
It was a pleasant surprise, when Hiccup had come to you asking for help picking weeds from the water.
You wondered which plant was the subject of his interest or his ire now? What plant had the dragons been interacting with this time, to pull his attention? Was it the Rush, or the Pendula? Maybe another plant, one that ended up being from the forest floor instead?
You felt bad still, for not meeting him by the Great Hall.
You knew he wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between them, the same way he thought most skulls looked the same.
“Not really?” Hiccup tried, rubbing his hand down his shirt before ruffling the hair at the back of his own head as he tossed a long bunch of wet weeds back, the water sloshing around his ankles, artificial and otherwise, “Not specifically.”
“Specifically?” You took a moment to stare at him with your eyebrow raised.
“Barf and Belch.”
You hummed casually, though you had your ears perked.
You didn’t care at all to keep track of the Twins’ dragons so this was news to you.
“Belch hasn’t been able to fly straight with his other head in a while. Not always, but they’ve been sneaking off to who-knows-where. In short, we think he’s hallucinating. He had… Something, in his teeth. He was hanging around the water the last time- he was dripping wet. Not salt water. Tuffnut… tested that.”
You winced at the mention, “-So you think whatever it was that caused him to act stupid’s been floating around in one of these ponds.”
“Right,” Hiccup nodded.
“Sounds easy enough,” You nodded in return.
“Yeah, so…” Hiccup tried, half-joking in a way that made the invisible hairs on your back prickle, alert, “I’ve been… Meaning to ask. What’s been going on with you and Snotlout? And the others? I’m pretty sure the Jorgensons are getting ready for the two of you to get married.”
“I’d hope not,” You rolled your eyes at him wearily, beginning the slow slog back to the docks behind you, legs pushing through murky water. You were half afraid it would end up making you sick, “I wouldn’t marry him.”
Really, though, why did he care?
“So… You’re not interested in him?”
“Never,” You scoffed, “Not in a million years.”
You were glad that he wasn’t angry- he didn’t seem it, anyways, not at you for accidentally ditching him… if he remembered anything about your plans at all. You didn’t want to bring it up in case he did and that reminded him of anything, pulling up memories like a sharp tripwire. Some things were better off just left unspoken.
You still felt bad, though.
He finally sat down to pull up his own prosthetic, tugging aside the soggy pants leg just above, stitched to cover his stump like a sock.
“Well, that’s not what everyone else thinks,” He said as he turned away, moving continuously with a certain lilt to his voice that made it sound sort of final.
Tuffnut and Snotlout and Ruffnut usually said the same in a voice that seemed more sing-song, though you were certain Hiccup couldn’t ever hold that sort of tone without it sounding weird, or out of place.
“What are you getting at?” You sniped, stomach dropping, “Are you feeling fine? You’re not mad, are you? About before?”
Hiccup’s shoulder’s seemed to jump, nose wrinkling as he grimaced.
“Yup, great… You left me behind, remember,” Hiccup said sarcastically, drily, “So, you know, I’m feeling so warm and fuzzy and loved. So, how are you, by the way? I never really got an explanation for that.”
You grimaced, resisting the urge to bristle at that, knowing in half that he was just baiting you.
You finished pulling up your boot, stuffing your pants leg into the fur lining, feeling incredulous.
You finally understood what it meant for the others, when they said they were annoyed by Hiccup. His sarcasm didn’t seem so funny when you were on the other end of it.
Now you just felt bitter and annoyed.
Pot-kettle.
Well, if he wanted something to scoff at then he’d get something to scoff at.
“Oh, thank you,” You nodded sarcastically, hand braced against your knee, in an action that was more Astrid-like than you would have preferred it to be, “I’m great.”
Hiccup scoffed again, and you felt another spike of irritation in your chest that you weren’t inclined to smother.
Instead, you yanked on the handle of the bucket, tugging it upwards and nearly wrenching your arm with the force of it, and the weight of the bucket, made heavier by the plants and water inside, and dumped it over his head.
“I-uh, ah-ha!” His voice started normal but hitting a higher nasal as it peaked, the contents of the bucket dumping over his face and pasting his hair to his cheeks, water-darkened and tangled with pond plants.
Hiccup stopped for a second, choking on his spit, looking at you incredulously, astonished and definitely upset.
How things could have gone so sour so fast was lost on you.
You glared at him, “Having fun picking that up all on your own.”
Then you marched off, kicking back through the undergrowth as you made it your mission to get as far away as possible.
“You messed up, dude,” Tuffnut spoke with faux wisdom, with words supposed to trigger something in you like you cared at all what he thought, or agreed that somehow in some way he might have known better.
Twins had a certain air about them. They took themselves more seriously than anything else, a level of self-involvement that made it seem like their words had merit whenever they said things of the soul-searching. Most people put their advice above all others, some even vyed it, not that the Twins would ever help anyone on purpose.
You thought they were just stupid.
You’d long since ceased to be fond of it.
It was obvious he had no idea what he was talking about, and it just made you mad.
You missed when you were miserable, because it made everything else feel duller.
“Yeah, well, how do you think I felt?” You asked, incensed, “After he spent all that time blowing me off to hang out with you guys?”
You shouted frustratedly, a nonsensical thing, as you grabbed at the air.
“It was well something well deserved and if he can’t pull his head out of his- if he can’t pull your helmet horns out of his ass long enough to see it then I don’t need it-! You-! Him. The whole lot of you!” You snarked, feeling incredibly hostile as you marched off for the second time that day.
Hiccup stood, rubbing his chin with his hand, leaning against the wooden side of a hut feeling slightly stressed.
He’d… Overheard your shouting.
You’d seemed fine, but then again, your fine was kind of… not. He thought you’d have found someone else to hang out with.
It hadn’t seemed like that big of a deal at the time. He’d always talked about wanting to be friends with the others, and you’d never said anything against it. You hadn’t. But he got it now. The shoe was on the other… prosthetic.
It was all karma.
He really did mess up, didn’t he?

✩ WEEKLY FIC ROUND-UP ✩
All the fics I’ve read and really enjoyed in the past week-ish. Reminder: This list features any and all ratings and themes. Please look at tags and warnings on ao3 before reading.
DC
The Bachelor: Robin Edition by Vamillepudding
Gotham loses its Robin and Bruce Wayne loses a son. Tim finds one of these too tragic to bear. In his quest to make sure Bruce Wayne lives to see the next year, he strikes upon the perfect solution: another son.
-
His best bet is, naturally, Crime Alley.
By 8 pm that day, Drake Manor is filled with ten black-haired, blue-eyed boys sitting around the large dining table, looking around the room suspiciously.
Well. Eleven. But Tim doesn’t think he counts.
ATLA
Dish Duty by Princeliest
All Zuko had been trying to do was wash some dishes. Or: The one where Zuko and Katara both mean well, but still can't find their footing around each other in time to prevent explosive shouting, broken dishes, an impromptu arrest, and Team Avatar's third- nay, fourth jailbreak. Fifth? They've lost count at this point, but at least they're not willing to lose Zuko... now, if only he realized that.
Merlin
all oak and iron bound by numinousnumbat
Some of those born with magic are repelled by iron. Merlin wished he knew how much iron there was in Camelot before he started his new life there.
HTTYD
Abandon Hope Who Enters Here (everyone who enters here) by JaggedEmeraldsOfGold
Eret had spoken about the mindless cruelty of Drago’s base and soldiers, but there’s nothing like seeing it in front of her to make it really, really sink in. She’d wanted to empathize, but she doesn’t think she really understood.
She does now.
Astrid leans her head back until it hits the wall behind her, and blinks up at the ceiling.
It’s going to be a long three days.
Or: Instead of facing the Monstrous Nightmare in the Kill Ring, Hiccup packs up and leaves Berk on Toothless, defeating the Red Death on his own as he goes. Six years later, Hiccup has royally fucked up– Hiccup has severely underestimated Drago, and now Hiccup is cramped, tired, hungry, without his prosthetic, and he really, really, really misses Toothless.
Imagine his surprise (read: complete and utter dread) when he wakes up one day to see absolutely none other than Astrid Hofferson, Snotlout Jorgenson, Fishlegs Ingerman, and Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston sitting in the cell across from him.
against the wind by underpassgraffiti
When Hiccup and Snotlout get stranded, they have to work together to stay alive.
Easier said than done.
To End a War by GhostStone
Stoick may not listen to Hiccup, but there is one person he does listen to on occasion. And that one person just happens to be someone who will listen to Hiccup.
An AU where the night before he is meant to kill the dragon, Hiccup realized how awful his plan is and goes to Gobber for help.

Why Can't Ruffthrok Get Together? (RTTE)
Minlout | Heathlegs | Ruffthrok
Here's the final installment of my mini-series.
Why couldn't Ruffthrok end up together at the end of RTTE?
I'll give you three reasons.
As with the others, the first reason is because Throk is a show character, not a film character. As such, it was his unfortunate fate that they'd be torn asunder, forever fated to be star-crossed lovers.
Second, as you saw in the Season 5, Episode 11 "Snuffnut", Ruffnut couldn't leave her brother, and Throk saw that and gallantly parted ways from her and wished her well (how manly of him).
Lastly, Throk couldn't abandon his duties in Caldera Cay, neither as Mala's right hand nor as the Great Defender's guardian. And Ruffnut, as she had when with the Wingmaidens, couldn't abandon her brother and her friends and family on Berk. So their respective duties and love for home and kin caused them to decide to separate.
Truly unfortunate, as they made an unusually compatible pair together. 😔
However, I shall post something soon that'll showcase the several plausible scenarios that will be semi-loyal to the canon. I hope you'll stay tuned for that. (Click Here)
Hope you have a wonderful Friday. Have a marvelous weekend!

This one might be a little specific but can you do tuffnut + drowning with hiccup saving him?
oki :3 sorry for delay!
Knowing how to swim was as natural as walking to most Berkians. The freezing temperatures of the seas meant that keeping your head above water for as long as possible wasn't easy, and at least one Viking drowned every year. It was a nasty fact, and parents taught their children to swim as soon as they could.
Tuff considered himself a decently strong swimmer; in the summers before Toothless and the other dragons had entered their lives, he and the other teens (except for Hiccup) often swam together in Berk's lakes and rivers. He wasn't the fastest (Astrid) or the strongest (Fishlegs), but he could at least hold his own if he fell off a fishing boat.
However, toss an angry dragon in the mix and you have a different story.
Scauldrons were bothering the Straits of Baldr again. Hiccup ordered them on a mission to relocate, so the riders mounted up with him. Three juvenile and one adult were circling lazily in the strait, spitting unheated water at each other and splashing with their wings. It was almost cute, except for the fact that ships needed to pass through there.
"Ruff, Tuff," Hiccup called. "Take the adult! Keep it busy while we drive off the juveniles!"
"On it!" Ruffnut called.
"Do you think 'keep it busy' means an explosion?" Tuffnut asked.
"Probably not."
"Ugh, fine." They reached the Scauldron and created a small explosion in the air, just to get its attention. It worked; the dragon swung its head around and glared at the Zippleback and its humans.
"Hey, big, wet, and steamy!" Ruff called, then snickered. "Come on, chase us!"
"Nyeh nyeh," Tuff taunted, sliding around to hang upside down from his dragon's neck. "Can't get us, you--"
The blast of water, while not superheated, still hurt as it caught him full in the chest and knocked him loose. He managed to suck in a breath before hitting the surface of the water and sinking. Above him, Barf and Belch were trying to fly away in panic but Ruff was keeping them close.
The Scauldron wasn't finished with him. It dove for him and caught his boot in its mouth, thankfully catching the leather and not his flesh in its venomous fangs. Briefly and unhelpfully, he remembered Fishlegs saying that Scauldrons could hold their breath for an hour. How long could Tuffnuts hold their breath?
The Scauldron pointed itself down and began swimming determinedly for the deeps. Tuff panicked; his chest was already painfully tight and the teeth in his boot weren't getting any looser. Barf and Belch were getting farther away by the second, the light from the sun was dwindling, his frantic twists and kicks were doing nothing but irritating the Scauldron more, and he couldn't breathe!
His mind was racing. He couldn't open his mouth, couldn't release the precious bit of air he had. His eyes stung in the salt water. The dragon under him whipped its head to the side and he yelled involuntarily. Air billowed out of his mouth and he couldn't stop himself from gasping in a mouthful of water.
Throat burning, lungs burning, Tuff felt the fight leaving his body. Was the water getting darker or was it just his vision? Both, probably. He'd be dragged down to the pitch black sea floor and eaten up by a Scauldron. What a way to go, considering how many brushes with death he considered a fun pastime.
Something strange and purple-white flew past him and hit the Scauldron. Tuff felt the teeth release him, but he could barely move, let alone fight to the surface...
Toothless appeared out of the growing darkness and Hiccup, squinting through the salt water, grabbed Tuffnut around the middle as they passed on the way back to the surface.
Air, beautiful, painful, live-giving air, surrounded him. He flailed in Hiccup's arms as they made a bee-line for a sea-stack. "Hold on, Tuff!" Hiccup cried when they landed. "Cough it up!"
Tuffnut tried, but he couldn't draw breath to cough with. Fists pounded his his back and suddenly the water burst forth, making him heave and hack. He tried to gulp air which made him cough. The hands on his back were rubbing in frantic circles, and Tuff could distantly hear Hiccup muttering to himself, "Oh, gods, too close. Too godsdamned close."
The others had converged by the time Tuffnut could breathe again. He was sitting, legs sprawled in front of him, staring at nothing as adrenaline pumped through his system. He could feel Ruffnut holding his hand, but he didn't think he could string any words together yet.
A hand appeared on his shoulder and he looked up.
"You gonna be okay?" Hiccup asked, concern in every line of his face.
Tuff nodded.

So, I listened to Mufasa's 'I Always Wanted A Brother'(still yet to see the film lol) and seeing as I'm stuck in a HTTYD phase, I came up with an AU that circles around Eret and Hiccup becoming 'brothers'. It starts before the first film, Hiccup being 7 and Eret 11.
Young Eret is used by Drago as a punishment for his father, Eret I, the young Eretson cruely branded before being thrown into the sea to drown. He is later found Pirates of the Caribbean style by Stoick on one of his voyages. He and other vikings recognizing the brand on Eret, but Stoick brings him back to Berk reguardless of the other vikings suggesting to leave him at a trading place.
Needless to say, once Eret was on the island of Berk, he caught the attention of young Hiccup, who is again, seven, even before Eret woke.
It doesn't take long for the two to form a bond, Hiccup being a lonely child whose father is gone more often than not with the other children keeping their distance, and Eret being an abandoned child spending his first month or so on Berk healing from his burns and a illness he'd gotten from being in the cold ocean for hour before being found. It's not long after Eret's released from bedrest the two are causing havic around the village only two brothers could cause.
The first movie is about the same(Hiccup is 15, Eret 19), except Eret actually helps Hiccup down Toothless, but does stay behind when Hiccup sneaks off to go kill his dragon. Eret also smacks his little brother upside the head when Hiccup tells him he let the dragon go.
When Stoick leaves, Eret is given the 'keep your little brother out of trouble talk'.
His relationship with the other teens is about the same; he and Fishlegs are mutual, Snotlout hates him, he trains with Astrid, he finds Tuffnut weird and avoids Ruffnut at all costs. He also grows to see Gobber as mentor/crazy uncle figure.
Eret does meet Toothless before Astrid does. He meets the Night Fury the first time Hiccup puts the first tail prototype.
Yes, he laughs when Hiccup is thrown into the water during the failed flight.
Eret does accompany Hiccup to the hidden cove a few times, but ultimately stays behind to cover for his brother when he disappears, especially when he becomes the pride of the village as the dragon wrangler and moreso when Stoick returns while Hiccup is out with Toothless.
He is there when Astrid finds out about Toothless, having tried to convince Hiccup he doesn't have to flee Berk when Stoick told him he's to kill a dragon. But, he doesn't go with Hiccup when he 'kidnaps' Astrid. He instead stays behind to keep the village from noticing the two missing. Hiccup does tell him about the nest and Queen when he returns.
When is does come to the botched fight with the Monstrous Nightmare, it's Eret who runs in to try and save him while Astrid stays back to ensure the gate stays open but protected from the Nightmare. He's not there when Stoick and Hiccup fight, but he does try to stop Stoick from taking Toothless at the docks and tries to reiterate what Hiccup told him about the nest and Queen, but is brushed off and scolded by his adopted father.
Yeah, he's given the 'you're meant to be the responsible one and protect your brother' speech.
When it comes time for the teens to saddle up to save Toothless, Eret ends up sharing Stormfly with Astrid. Lucky bastard also stays on when Astrid is knocked off.
After Hiccup wakes after loosing his leg, Eret once again smacks the back of his head for being stupid before Astrid kisses Hiccup.
By the end of the first film, Eret decides not to take on a dragon of his own.
When the second film starts(Hiccup 20, Eret 24), Eret still has no dragon and stands with Stoick, Gobber and Spitelout while watching the gang play fly and throw sheep into nets.
Edit: was in the middle of digitalizing the image of Eret and Hiccup as kids when I realized I never brought up the whole 'Stoick retiring' plot.
Hiccup and Eret do get the chance to talk about Hiccup being the next chief and Hiccup suggests Eret be the next chief instead since he's technically the older brother. While Eret is flattered by the confidence and admission, seeing as he and Hiccup used to fight over who was the older brother, Hiccup's side being he'd been apart of Berk longer while Eret would state he was older and taller, he ultimately tells Hiccup that the throne is his honor to inherit.
Not sure if the encounter above would happen in movie as a scene or something Hiccup tells Astrid before he points out the smoke in the distance.
In the scene were Hiccup and Astrid meet Eret son of Eret, they instead meet his father, who looks just like Eret, but older and more tired looking with a beard. Hiccup and Astrid do share a look once they are introduced to Eret I, but say nothing. Hiccup does pull Eret to the side after telling the others about Drago and Stoick tells his backstory, as well as admitting Eret's scar is once of Drago's brands, and tells his brother about the older Eret.
Yeah, man has a whole mental breakdown over the reemergence of Drago and hearing his bio-father is still alive and working for him after he watched his son get branded and thrown to the sea.
Eret doesn't meet his dad until Hiccup goes to 'surrender'. Astrid already left after her boyfriend, so he hitches a ride with Gobber. Eretson and Eret I don't actually talk in this scene, but just kinda stare at each other in disbelief, Eret shocked his dad is actually there while his dad can't believe his long-lost son is still alive.
Eret I doesn't speak up until the group is leaving, in which he stops Eret from returning to Grump and asks how he could have sided with dragons all this time. Stoick for sure tells this man to stay away from both his sons. This leaves Eret feeling betrayed by his bio-dad twice.
Sidenote for giggels: Ruffnut thinks Eret senior is a DILF
Eret ends up going off with Gobber and Stoick to track down Hiccup, so he's there when Stoick and Valka are reunited. Hiccup does introduce Eret to Valka as his older brother and Valka immediately calls this man 'son'.
Que another internal breakdown as Eret hasn't had a maternal figure sence he was a kid!
With the group, Eret I goes through everything Eretson did in the second film; kidnapped and forced to take the group to Drago while becoming Stormfly's personal toy.
He does make a point to leave out the existence of his son when offering the group up to Drago. Astrid does as well when she taunts him about the dragons fo Berk and Hiccup with his Night Fury. Eret I still ends up being put to death with the others and gets saved by Stormfly, which leads to his change of heart and guilt for what he'd said to his son.
When it comes time for Drago's attack on Valk's island, both Eret's end up fighting side-by-side on the ground while the others fight on dragons. Eret I does apologizing during this scene, though Eretson can't quiet respond to the words.
And not just because of the clashing of blades and fist blows.
When Stoick dies, Eret does mourn with Astrid, Hiccup and Valka. He can't bring himself to stop Hiccup from chasing Toothless away and feels guilty for it once Drago takes him.
The rest of the film goes about the same and Eret forgives his father when he's given Skullcrusher, but he does call Eret I 'sir' instead of 'dad' or 'father'. To him, those tiltes go to the man who took him in thirteen years ago.
Eret I is fine with this, he's just glad to have his kid back.
Third film Eret son of Eret is basically the same. He's Hiccup's righthand and continues to help Gobber with blacksmithing. The biggest change is Eret is more involved with dragon rescues and it's Eret I that tells them about Grimmle.
And, that's the long gist of this AU. I do plan on doing art for it(so far all I have is Eret and Hiccup as boys lol), but nothing will be posted until my Wi-Fi is working right and not going in and out(hopefully that happens Monday). Hope you all like this AU dump!

Analysis on HTTYD Ships
Hiccstrid ❁ From the moment Hiccup is shown in the movie, he is portrayed as an outcast, a boy not even his father loves because Hiccup is "weak" and not like other vikings of Berk. Which is actually a good introduction to his character. But then, there's the typical cliche of these movies: he's in love with a girl. He has a crush on Astrid, and that's the first thing we know about her. Hiccup is in love with Astrid, apparently for... nothing except that she's attractive? In the movie, there isn't a single moment where Hiccup talks about/shows why he likes her. That already gives the "Hiccup is a shallow person" vibes from the very beginning. What doesn't help is how Hiccstrid is developed through the movie. So it is shown how Astrid, as well as the other teenagers in Berk (Snotlout, Fishlegs, Tuffnut and Ruffnut) hate Hiccup and don't respect him. And just after one flight with Toothless, suddenly Astrid is in love with Hiccup. She just went from "I hate you" to "I like you" in what? 5 minutes? After hating him for years and years? Sorry, but hate doesn't dissapear so easily. And punching him and later kissing him on the cheek? That scene gives the "female violence on male is okay and funny", because no one would have liked that scene if Astrid was a boy and was punching a female Hiccup "as a joke".
Stalka ❁ The first thing we know about Valka is that she's the mother of Hiccup, who died because of the dragons. But in the second movie, it is discovered that she's still alive, and we know more things about her story. And her relationship with Stoick. At first they might seem like a cute couple, but the more you look into it, the more flaws you find. Stoick supposedly loves Valka, but if he loved her so much, why didn't he defend her from the tribe? Why didn't he acted like a good husband and told the other vikings "Don't you dare speak to my wife like that"? Why didn't he listen to her when she showed that dragons could be different? Apart from that, in the second movie, when he finds Valka again, he shows he's still in love with Valka, and he asks her to be a family again. But did he even thought about Valka's feelings? Did he think "Maybe she doesn't feel love for me anymore" Did he give Valka the option to tell him herself that she was still in love with him? Or just insisted until she accepted being his wife again? After the development of Stoick in Race To The Edge, it would have been nice for him to respect his wife's feelings, and don't force the relationship. I can understand that he lost her and wants the relationship to work again, but there's a difference on just let it flow by itself (and be happy that it worked out without forcing it) and kinda leading her to say yes out of obligation.
Nightlight ❁ It's a cute ship, right? It's a ship with development, and— Wrong. They didn't give the Light Fury a good characterization, to begin with. She was just the dragon Grimmel controlled, and later she was just Toothless's mate. Apart from that, what does she have that makes you think "Oh, she's actually a great character"? Exactly, nothing. She's a bland character, that could perfectly be forgotten. And the ship is equally bland. Why? Because they had to destroy one of the most important things about this saga to make it work: Hiccup and Toothless' relationship. Since the first movie, the HTTYD franchise was based on one thing: the dragon and the human who became friends, despite everything. They always overcame their problems together, never leaving each other side, watching each other's backs... And you're saying me that Toothless left Hiccup for a mate? Yeah, sure. That doesn't make any sense. Toothless would have never choose anyone above Hiccup. Anyone. "He's an animal who was looking for a mate". Toothless's inteligence and the soul of his character is more than that, don't try to reduce his development saying he's just an "animal" to justify your ship. Nightlight is a bad ship, not only because of the lack of chemistry/development, but because it destroyed completely the most important pillar of the saga.
Rufflegs ❁ Rufflegs were together. That's a fact. There's another fact: they didn't have romantic interactions. In the first movie, the only ship was Hiccstrid. In the three shows of HTTYD -Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk, Race To The Edge- Fishlegs was in love with Heather. And suddenly, for some reason, Fishlegs and Ruffnut were together. I understand that they didn't show Fishlegs having a relationship with Heather because during HTTYD 2, Race To The Edge didn't exist yet. But making Rufflegs a thing feels a lot like a reason to include another straight ship to say "Hey, both of these characters are straight, not gay". How many romantic scenes did they show during the whole franchise? Because there are so few that could almost go unnoticed (if there are actually a few romantic scenes and not zero).

Okay, the last of the character sheets I drew over the last few days, presenting Trader Johann and Gruffnut!

Gruffnut Alvarsson is the older cousin of Ruffnut and Tuffnut Thorston, about six or so years older than them. He’s related to the twins on their dad’s side of the family, their uncle being his father. Despite the Alvarsson and Thorston clans being considerably sized on Berk, especially once they joined through the twins parents, Gruffnut spends most of his time away from Berk. He left on the first ship he could snag for himself after he graduated Dragon Training, off to seek out ‘new opportunities’ as he liked to call it. Every once in a while he returns to Berk, bringing stories to his younger cousins of all the amazing things he’s seen and all the incredible adventures he’s been on, before leaving again. Tuffnut adores his older cousin, thinking he’s one of the coolest people ever. Ruffnut isn’t nearly as thrilled about Gruffnut, but that’s because she’s overheard the conversations the adults have in the background about their older cousin.
Gruffnut barely passed Dragon Training, failing his first year, and far outshone by Ingrid during his second, but brawn’s had never been something he was particularly good at. Especially when his opponent was a large, angry dragon. Gruffnut relied more on brains, though he was no Einstein in that department either. Gruffnut inherited his own father’s and the twins father’s gambling habits, and also inherited the poor awareness that doesn’t come with knowing a gamble or bet is too big a risk to take. Gruffnut has spent the last handful of years sailing off outside the Archipelago, looking for big money and a high-quality lifestyle, only to gamble away all his savings or lose them paying off a debt he didn’t anticipate going poorly. He then slinks back off to his family, begging for a bed and more money, before sailing away and repeating the process all over again. Gruffnut has learned how to handle himself in a fight with smaller opponents, but learning to handle himself in a fight doesn’t help when the money is all he can see and he gambles away more than he can afford with the wrong people. Gruffnut’s family don’t know how quickly he loses money, returning to Berk something he does sparingly. When he can’t afford to make the trip back to the Archipelago, or doesn’t feel like dealing with his family, Gruffnut turns to bounties or shady work with various dragon trappers or other unsavory company to pay off his debts. This sometimes puts him in more trouble, but Gruffnut only cares about his own personal comfort, and is willing to do almost anything to get it.
Trader Johann is a Trader from the Northern Markets. Most of his business is done there, though he can be found almost anywhere, a sort of nomad even amongst the traveling traders. He is also one of the few traders who dared risk sailing into the Archipelago, amongst its rumors of dragon raids and barbaric tribes. Trader Johann has a reputation amongst every tribe he visits as being reliable and friendly, if only a little air-headed and whimsical. It’s a reputation Johann has spent years crafting amongst the Archipelago and every other tribe anywhere else that he visits, though it’s not all for the generous reasons that Johann lets people think. Johann is from further east, where he works for a big name Dragon Trapper looking to expand territory. Johann oversees his bosses outer operations, disguised as a merchant which allows him to go just about anywhere unquestioned. There is genuine joy in his cover, though Johann hates the facade he puts up and the supplies he carries with him. Johann’s passion project over the last year or so indulges the cargo he would rather carry. Dragons.
Johann has been assigned with helping set up an underground dragon trading route, meant to be separate from the larger and more public auctions that take place on many isolated islands. The end goal is for the routes and their multiple, eventual erected, floating markets to serve as private auctions, leaving the islands as a sort of public and more common auctioning ground for the customers with less grandeur. The hidden markets that will be placed along the underground routes paths will be reserved for only the elite and personally invited, but first they need to be set up. Johann has been helping arrange things, bringing reserved supplies and knowledge on the best sailing routes to hide away their operation, and acting as a messenger for all the various Dragon Trapper organizations that would like to attend or provide cargo for selling. Even the Grimborn brothers have sent cargo to help set up the beginning of the stock to be sold, which is a big deal. Of course, Johann has been tasked with helping as nothing more than a means to an end. The underground dragon trading route will serve a bigger purpose than it was initially meant for, though no one but Johann and his employer needs to know what that is. Unfortunately, and irritatingly, Johann has run into a few unforeseen snags along the way. Shipments have been caught in storms and lost before they made it to their end destination, and some of the dragons that the Grimborns have sent are from the older brothers fighting rings, and are consequentially more aggressive than most dragons. And a handful of pests from the Isle of Berk have taken to riding dragons, and managed to reveal to the tribes of the Archipelago that Johann is a Dragon Trapper.
They’re annoying problems, but none that Johann hasn’t been able to swiftly handle. He’s lost rights to trade with Berk and the Berserkers, who want nothing to do with him, and the Outcasts refuse him as well, though he never traded with them before. It’s frustrating, but the other tribes still accept him, under his swiftly though guise of simply providing supplies to any who were willing to buy, regardless of his personal opinions of them. And the infamous Dragon Riders disappeared from the Archipelago within the year of their appearance, so Johann is certain that he doesn’t have to deal with them any longer and can get back to carrying out his employers plan.
Okay I know what you’re thinking. Actually I don’t, but I’m gonna say it anyway cause I’m weird like that. Why is Gruffnut getting on a character sheet when he shows up like, three times in the show? Surely that means he shows up even more times in my crossover, right?…yeah about that, I literally only have him in one episode right now. Maybe he’ll show up a few other times but right now he’s operating as a one and done character. HOWEVER. I have tweaked his character a lot and he adds some insight into the twins family and its structure. For starters, Gruffnut is not a Thorston. He’s an Alvarsson, which is the twins dad’s former surname. I’m making it so that Thorston is actually their mother’s maiden name, which she kept when she married the twins dad. Gruffnut is their paternal cousin, and not only is he a lot older, he’s also not a copy paste of Tuffnut. I’m pretty sure they did that as a sort of comical bit and also to save money on making another model, but because of how the events of this story work, Gruffnut being identical to Tuffnut doesn’t work, and I also wanted to make him seperate. I decided to play into him being a much older cousin as well because that plays into Tuffnut’s idolization of him; Gruffnut is old enough to go out and explore elsewhere beyond Berk, which means Tuffnut doesn’t see him as often, and being much older plays into the effect of Tuffnut looking up to Gruffnut, since they’re not the same age. Ruffnut still sees through a lot of his crap though, but doesn’t know how to break it to Tuffnut who refuses to listen. Gruffnut being a paternal relative also adds on to what I have planned for their dad, in that the twins don’t have the best relationship with him. They talk about their mom a lot but their dad has never come up so I’m assuming that they don’t have the best relationship with him, and Gruffnut is going to help illustrate those issues.
As for Johann, I’m playing into the twist reveal of him being a dragon trapper, but he gets revealed much earlier. Of course it doesn’t have too much of an effect, for better or for worse later on in the story, but the riders are aware of him from pretty early on. I don’t remember if it’s ever mentioned if Johann was working for someone else or not, but in this story he has an employer, and they’re both playing the waiting game for their plans. I’m doing my best to hint to or set up stuff that happens later in the fic early on, so it doesn’t feel like it came out of left field, and I’m trying to connect a bunch of stuff together, which Johann is going to be really helpful in doing on both accounts. He’s not super a problem in the beginning, because he’s busy with his own stuff, but I’m aiming to have him involved at certain points so he doesn’t just fade into obscurity, and also to hint toward the stuff that he’s working on that I cannot reveal yet as it is meant to be a surprise.

#i think i made johanns head a little thin#but it’s also my second time ever drawing him so :/#id like to add Gruffnut more since I’ve put so much WORK into making a different character out of him while still being Gruffnut#but for now he’s just in the one episode#but he also serves to introduce the plot of the next episode so he’s useful there I guess!#but with characters like the Dark Orca pirates and Devil Daniels#im sure he’ll find an opportunity to pop back in again#Johann is gonna be fun#again. i know i say that about everything. but im SO excited about all the work im putting into this project#httyd/the deep crossover#httyd johann#httyd gruffnut

do you think httyd 3 would have had more weight if not all the viking squad made it to the end? i was just thinking how tuffnut's voice actor was replaced in 3 due to misconduct and it got me thinking what if they got him off the cast by actually killing off tuffnut to give the "final war" more stakes and consequences.
also ruffnut having the survivor's guilt. losing a twin must hurt especially well given their close bond
(Long rant incoming.)
As someone who is extremely not fond of Httyd 3, I personally don't think the movie would've deserved it. More than that, I don't like meaningless deaths in media at all.
If I look at, say, The Last of Us, (game or show) where a lot of characters end up dying pretty unfair and sometimes sudden deaths, I don't hate TLOU for doing that because those deaths still held meaning. Those deaths are carried by the characters who do make it. But a death that just kind of comes out of nowhere, doesn't even fit the narrative, or isn't given much thought afterwards after that? Hate it. Unnecessary.
I watch Grey's Anatomy, a show that is now on it's 21st season and it's very obvious which characters got written off or killed because there was trouble on the set (or even because the writer herself just didn't like a certain actor/actress) and which characters leave the show but get a bittersweet sort of end.
And I say this as someone who has killed off plenty of characters. Like, in my fic, Just a Kid, but those deaths aren't for nothing. They appear brutal and meaningless in the moment, but it's the characters (and Hiccup especially) who gives those deaths meaning after they happen. (For context: Just a Kid is a Httyd Modern AU Zombie fic)
In Httyd 3 specifically, which supposedly holds the message of "Love is loss" (I've seen that message by done way better in an anime that I still love to this day) character deaths don't really feel that fitting at all. I've seen people argue that the deaths of the Deathgrippers actually only serves to further prove just how much of a pile of contradictions and a mess the movie really is and I agree.
If the movie goes through all this trouble to say that dragons are too pure, too innocent for the big bad world of man? Why have literal killing machines that are supposedly too evil to care about? Those are already four deaths in the movie that just hold no weight at all.
Also, I just despise the narrative of "mankind = evil" because I think it's an incredibly immature stance to have. If the movie was, say, from the Light Fury's perspective, it would actually still make sense. Humans have captured her, but from everybody's standpoint? No. Rejected. Done. Get that narrative out of my face.
Stoick's death in the second movie held a tremendous amount of weight and was actually discussed whether or not the filmmakers should even go through with it. Deaths are supposed to hold weight and consequence, but the deaths of the Deathgrippers held no weight at all. We don't even spare them a second glance, we don't watch the emotion on their face like we did Drago's Bewilderbeast in the second movie. And that dragon didn't even die, he was just defeated in a duel.
Hell, Grimmel's death was of no consequence! Because the "Night Fury Killer" (and I use that self-proclaimed title very lightly.) was dead, the only guy who could even touch New Berk was gone and it just didn't matter. Because the dragons still get send away, despite winning.
So if the deaths of five of the villains is meaningless, I wouldn't trust Httyd 3 with the losses of characters we actually care about.
And the thing is, Hiccup and the Dragon Riders do lose something very significant. They lose Berk, the home they grew up on, the home multiple generations of Berkians have fought to protect.
And we get, like... What? One mournful look and then it's back to jokes? To Hiccup coming up with the stupidest plan in all of the history of stupid plans to pack up his entire village and just go flying in a straight line? While supposedly believing that the world is flat? Which is not only incredibly out of character for Hiccup, Mr. Think-Out-Of-The-Box, Mr, Your-Thinking-Makes-Grown-Men-Uncomfortable, but makes his plan even dumber. Like, you keep flying straight on a flat world, you're eventually going to reach the edge, Bud!
But that aside, in the end Berk's loss didn't really mean anything. The island is never seen or mentioned again (by the good characters) while losing Berk actually could've been the perfect object to teach the lesson of "with love comes loss." Rather than have the entire movie be around Hiccup being "too immature" to let a disabled dragon who will die without his help go back to the wild.
And when in all of the rest of the franchise, there was no proof of Toothless being domesticated. Having the safety and happiness to act goofy around his best friend ever (his literal soulmate) when previous movies or shows showed Toothless as a sapient being doesn't mean he's domesticated. (I swear to God, Dean/the filmmakers are the movie equivalant of that "animal rescue" group who kidnapped and released an owl from a zoo or something only to have that owl die immediately after.)
But no, we needed Hiccup to finally be the model Viking the first two movies spend telling us that he was anything but and better for it. Now being himself and having both a dragon and a wife is suddenly evil and immature.
As for the twins specifically... Tuffnut shows an extraordinary lack of care for Ruffnut in this movie. His sister. The twins could hurt and show a lack of care in, say, RttE, but when it came down to it, they didn't want the other hurt or killed. This is very different in the third movie, in which Tuffnut can miss a whole-ass sister, whom he shares a dragon with and be like "huh, nope! didn't miss her, was just enjoying the quiet!" Following what the movie gave us of the twins, I don't think Ruffnut actually would've cared if her brother had lived or died.
(I actually did quite enjoy the replacement voice actor for Tuffnut, because they managed to find someone who could do his voice so well.)
If deaths could've made Httyd 3 hold more weight, than the "death" of Berk should've held weight. And it didn't. A very long rant just to say; no, even more deaths wouldn't have helped this movie. People actually caring about the story and the previous two movies would've helped.

----------------------------------------------
From the shadows emerge:
Wooooohoooooooooo!!!
The sound traveled past your ears and straight on ahead. A blur of black and red wizz past alongside the sound as a cheerful Hiccup and a happy Toothless fly into the great wide unknown.
(Y/N): *laughing* Slow down you two it's not a race!
You gently pat the side of your mighty dragon, A greyish blue Mudraker with subtle yellow and brown accents. Today was a nice day for a fly and, perfect weather for all of you to make a trek back to Berk to catch up with family and enjoy some time away from the Edge.
Astrid: *she flys up next to you* Haha I don't think either of them know the meaning of a "slow down" not when it comes to flying.
Snotlout: And yet they never show up when we DO actually race. *Snotlout gets real close to you as he flys on Hookfang* Between you and me, I think he's a coward. Knows that I'll beat him and he's to embarrassed to show his face around me. *He gloats which only earns a scowl from Astrid*
Astrid: As if? You know he's busy! Especially with the amount of Dragon trappers that have been showing up lately.
Snotlout: *muffled yet in a sing-songy tone* Still sounds like a coooward!
Before Snotlout could get something thrown at him, the twins butt into the conversation just to annoyingly complain about the longevity of the flight.
Ruffnut: Are we there yeeeet?
Tuffnut: At this rate the games will have already started before we even see Berk.
Astrid: *a bit annoyed in her own right* Seriously? You two know that it doesn't take THAT long to get back to Berk? Thawfest doesn't even start for another week!
Tuffnut: *pouting* well it feels like it will take 2 weeks to get to Berk.
Not wanting listen to the winning that has permeated the conversation Astrid flys up ahead to try and catch up to Hiccup and Toothless. This gives opportunity for Fishlegs to make his final remarks on the matter.
Fishlegs: Well that would explain the need for speed.
(Y/N): Oh, you mean Astrid? Yeah well I'd be leaving now too if wasn't caught between a rock and a hard place. *you say gesturing to Snotlout and the Twins that are flying on either side of you*
Fishlegs: What? No I'm not taking about them. I'm talking about Hiccup and Toothless, they're really trying to go for a win this year.
Snotlout: *Interrupting* Yeah emphasis on TRYING!! The Jorgenson family line NEVER looses!
Before you have the opportunity to try and punch his side you notice that your dragon is feeling a bit restless. Their eyes dart around as they sniff the air around them.
(Y/N): What's wrong girl?
You would have your answer as your Dragon whips her head, pointing firmly at a nearby location at the sky. You spot the turning colors from a once bright blue sky fading to a deep grey as dark clouds approach.
(Y/N): Uh . . Guys? . . Someone want to fly ahead a warn Hiccup and Astrid?
Snotlout: On it!! *and with that he flys away to warn them*
But as you feel the winds blow more violently and the air turning cold you notice bright blue bolts of lighting dancing among the grey skys. And yet something doesn't sit right with you. Your own dragon begins to flare up with rage as she darts up ahead towards Hiccups location, the rest of the group following your trail.
---------------------------------
Your Dragon is ever the restless one when she feels an on coming storm, but this? This was different. You nearly fly into Astrid's side as it's becoming increasingly harder to try and settle down (Dragon's name).
Astrid: *narrowly dodging you* Woah!!! Are you two okay?
Your voice comes out mangled as you're currently experiencing some self induced turbulence.
(Y/N): . . Y . Yeah!!! I . .I think so.
Hiccup: *who has now slowed down to ensure everyone is safe*. It's probably the storm that's approaching. We'll need to make it back to Berk fast if we want to beat it.
(Y/N): *shaking* H .. Hi ..Hiccup . som ... something else is wrong.
Nearly slipping off the side of your dragon, she continues to sniff at the air. She's sensed something beyond just the storm. As her eyes narrow eventually she lets out a long yelp. Just a few moments later the lighting that once danced among the clouds have now made their way towards the group. As each member tried their best to dodge the lightning it almost seemed as if the barrage of bolts are coordinated.
And you would be correct to believe so. Through cracks and booms were sounds of screaming that sounded all too familiar to you and the other riders.
Hiccup: Skrills .. ..
(Y/N): huh?
Hiccup: Guys SKRILLS!
With flash, bang, booms, the sky around you became turned a dark gray, while a pack of Skrills surrounded you guys. Their screams sending shivers down your spine, and they weren't alone either. It was fairly obvious by their limited movement coupled with sightings of small chains across their bodies that they were being used. Their owners emerged from the storm below. A small fleat of Viking ships lined with cages and screaming dragons on their boats.
Snotlout: *through gritted teeth* Dragon trappers are you serious right now?? DON'T YOU GUYS HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO??
Astrid: Won't you cut that out!?!
Hiccup: I don't believe it makes much of a difference Astrid. I believe they've been trailing us for a while now. But we do need to focus on the task at hand Snotlout! Like shaking off this Skrills for starters.
And with that the surrounding Skrills divebomb towards the groups position. Their lighting flairing from them as they begin to fire off not caring if they hit each other in the process. With so many bolts coming at once the group needs to split up if none of you want to be on the receiving end of a barrage of lightning. You narrowly dodge a Skrill as it dives towards the twins. You begin chasing after it as your dragon starts firing off sonic blasts to try and shake the Skrill off their trail. However it's becoming harder to see through all the pouring rain. Meanwhile the remaining few Skrills have broken up into pairs that are causing trouble for the others in their own right. Two have started to fly towards the direction of Berk, causing Hiccup and Astrid to go after them. The other Skrills retreat back to their Master's ship which have joined the fight too. Even through heavy rain the boats begin to launch trap after trap in the hopes of it hitting any of the riders. So much is happening at once, too much. Boats, Skrills, rain and heavy winds create a nasty battle field. Your Dragon is unable to handle the onslaught of commotion that you don't even realize your heading straight towards a pocket of violent winds.
Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, Tuffnut: (Y/N)!!!
Your friends terrified call of your name was the last thing you heard before you were swept away into the worst part of the storm. You're barely able to hold onto the sadle of your dragon as their body is knocked around in all directions in this cloud of nightmares that surrounds you both. Spinning around, and around you have zero sense of direction as all you can see is rain and grey. When you try to gain control all your efforts are in vain. Going up only pushes your further left. Try to go right and you feel yourself being pulled downwards.
Eventually you break through the pocket of wind and clouds. As far as your eyes can see, all that surrounds you is a vast dark blue ocean with no Berk or friends in sight. Before you knew it, you and your dragon were heading straight towards the deep blue sea. Then it it all faded to black.
--------------------------------
You're body shakes with each pull. Soft sand covers your body as your hands dig into the ground, desperately grasping at the shore to try and not get swept back out to sea. With each push of your body you cough violently. Your head spins, your nose burns, your throat pours out streams of bile, spit, and saltwater. Slowly but surely you drag your body back to land were you finally collapse from exhaustion. As you barely keep your eyes open to try and stay continuous your body jolts awake in an instant the second cold water is poured onto your shaky form.
As you sit up and look at where the source of the water came from you're met with a familiar reptilian face. Your Dragon, a somber expression turned gleeful as they nudge and nuzzle into your side happy to see their rider alive. For a brief moment you feel relieved to see your Dragon alive as well despite both of your reaking of seawater and your bodies are cold to the touch.
Getting a good look at your surroundings you thank the Gods above that you've appeared to land on a prosperous island. One with a dense forest in front of you while giant mountains loom in the distance. Though panic emerges as you realize that this is no island that you've ever been to before. Unfortunately, looking towards the sea it appears that the storm has yet to qwell. Your Dragon hoists you onto her back. You don't even bother holding yourself up as you lay atop her cold scales. She's still too shaken up to fly so she makes the trek into the thick woods to try and seek shelter.
-------------------------------
Hiccup: . . B . But dad? . . .Dad stop please listen to me!!
Stoick: Enough Hiccup!
Hiccup: But how could you dismiss this?? They're still out there and. .
Stoick: I said ENOUGH Hiccup!
Hiccup: Dad. .
Stoick: Listen son. I want to get a search party going for (Y/N). . I really do. *he reaches out to try and console Hiccup*. .I would never want to lose another one of our own, 'specially one that means a lot to you. But we have more important matters to attend to first.
Goober: Yer fathers right Hiccup! I don't suppose Berk has seen the last of those trappers. . .I would bet my good Axe that their "friends" will be paying us a visit. Specially since we up and destroyed their first fleets.
Hiccup could only stand and agree. Even still the decision to leave you stranded, Odin knows where, left a bad taste in his mouth. Toothless could sense Hiccups worry as he lightly whined and nudged at his side.
Hiccup: *leaning down to pet Toothless* . . I know bud. I hope they're okay. . . wherever they are.
-----------------------------
When it rains it pours. For several days and grueling long nights you and your dragon had to endure the ever changing weather of this strange new island. From a cool windy day, to pouring rains at night, to harsh sunny afternoons. It would be considered a miracle if the two of you end up surviving this. Luckily and also horrifyingly, nothing seems to live on this island. Not a mouse or a Yak has been discovered as far as you and (Dragons name) have noticed. For such a massive space you'd assume their would be an abundance of wildlife for your to run into but, except for the occasional stray terrible terror, the island was practically empty. Which only made the silent nights all the more eerie as you feared that you might never see your friends and family ever again.
It was one cool night that fed you hope as a shadow seemed to dart around the cave you were inhabiting. At first you wanted to ignore it, believing it to be just another Terrible Terror. But the way the shadows voice hummed a low growl that shook you to your core you had a feeling that whatever they were they had to have been something bigger.
Startling your dragon awake only made the Shadow dart out of your cave and into the surrounding forest. As quickly as you were on your feet, your dragon was ready to give chase. Though you could barely see in front of you, your dragon did their best to navigate the woods. Using the shadows smell as a means of tracking it. The way the two of you, both dragon and shadow, zipped and twisted through the woods was memorizing but something about the shadows movements seemed oddly familiar. It was only after an oh so familiar screech did you put two and tso together.
(Y/N): *ushering to your dragon* C'mon girl we gotta catch up to them!
It was toothless it had to be! Oh you felt the need to cry tears of joy! That dark silhouette, the fast flying and that familiar nightfury cry it had to be them! You were saved! Though strangely as you called out to Toothless to slow down, that you weren't a threat only made them fly faster away from you.
(Y/N): Toothless where are you GOING??
And still they flew faster.
(Y/N): TOOTHLESS?!!
As you continued to chase after them the forest came to an end and into a clearing. A part of the island you haven't been to before and one that was frightening under the pale moonlight. A cavern of rocks and stone surrounded the opening with only a small beach to break the horizon. Where it led to you had no idea as you were more transfixed on the wall of boulder and stone that seemed to reach up and touch the clouds as it loomed over you.
For a brief moment you panicked as you lost sight of Toothless. That deep black scaly body was not doing you any favors in spotting him. Luckily your dragon hadn't lost their sent as they made a break towards a small opening amongst the rocky ledge. As your dragon squeezed through the crack eventually she ran into. . .
(Y/N): . . . Toothless?
Through the cracks of the cavern that surrounds you, small beams of moonlight peaking through the cracks, the orange glowing eyes before you felt like enough to paint a picture in your head that this was indeed not Toothless. Your own Dragon began to stand guard, as they realized that this Nght Fury is not the friend they know. As your Dragon barred its teeth and growled the nightfury only crawled backwards towards the wall cowering in freight as they realized that had nowhere else to run to. Their stature was smaller than Toothless, more thinly but not frail. Their tail was long and almost string like as it wrapped around their body to make them appear smaller than they already were. Their eyes a piercing orange as they bowed their head and shook with freight.
You had to settle your own Dragon as they were scaring this Night Fury. Slowly you approached the nightfury but only stopping as their maw began to open a swirl of orange and blue flame emitted from their mouth. They were scared of you but brave enough to still try and hold their ground.
(Y/N): Hey. ..hey. . .it's okay. I'm not going to try and hurt you.
As you reached out your hand to try and touch them they only screamed to try and ward you off before leaping over you and your dragon and out back towards the opening you came from. Before they had left you got a good glimpse of their body. Scars, their body was laced with deep scars that covered their underside from neck to tail.
Again you tried to chase after them. So many thoughts swirling in your head. A nightfury! You couldn't believe you found another Night Fury. But why are they here? Are there other nightfurys on this island?? But they look so wounded! What happened to them?
Squeezing back out into the opening you noticed that the nightfury made a brake towards the beach. As you turned the corner you almost stopped dead in your tracks as your eyes gazed upon the hellish sight. Before you, the coast of this secluded beach covered in countless ships. Wrecked and torn these ships lay dormant. Up in the distance you spotted the Night Fury once more. They hovered over this graveyard only fleeing once they spotted you. Back towards the woods they flew into the night leaving you and your dragon once more.
You had your dragon fly towards the ships. Jumping off you cautiously approach this ship graveyard. Upon further investigation all those who were aboard this ship had been lost to time. Scattered human remains cover the ship decks and surrounding sands. Old wood wrapped by the endless waters that crash upon the shore. Barnacles and plants take over the masts and bows. The most shocking part of it all was the numerous large scratch marks that cover the ships. Holes and blast marks tell a tale of struggle that you could piece together who the culprit is behind these extra damages. Though when you notice the cages and chains that call these ghsot ships home you understand exactly why they would have done this.
But still the thought didn't sit well with you. What seemed like a whole fleet of ships, to be taken down by one Night Fury was terrifying. Not to mention who ever was crazy enough to track down one lone nightfury to the ends of the earth was scary in it's own right. But they and their crew are long gone now, leaving one scarred nightfury both in physical appearance and mentally as well.
You need to help them.
------------------------------
Alright so the whole "helping the Night Fury plan" was going as good as you could get it. Which is to say not good at all. How Hiccup managed to tame Toothless seemed to be night and day for you.
First of all tracking down the damn thing was a battle in its own right. First of all they could still fly, great! But not great as it would just fly away the moment they sensed your presence. You could only get close to it if you managed to corner it off but that made a problem in it's owm right. Scare it too much and it would curl itself into a big defense curl not opening up for anybody. Got too close to it and you'd receive a tail, bite or blast to the face.
The one saving grace that all creatures big and small experience is hunger. Feeding time became something you exploited heavily. If your dragon needs to eat so does the Night Fury! And so you'd always try to fish up more food for the nightfury, leaving piles of food or trying to usher the nightfury closer to you by holding fish in your hand.
And it seemed to work. Kind of. . . remember the terrible terrors? Yeah they were bothersome in their own right. Even though they were the only other dragons on this island they seemed to keep getting in your way at the worst times possible. Leave food out for too long and the terrible terrors would get to them first. Tried holding your hand out to feed the night fury and a terrible terror would just seem to pop up out of nowhere stealing your food and scaring off the nightfury.
It was only a few days realistically (that felt like weeks in your head) did you finally, FINALLY gain enough trust towards the Night Fury. Enough so that they wouldn't just fly away or try to bite you if you got top close to them. You still couldn't touch them but this was a promising start.
Now the next hurdle, making sure the Night Fury doesn't fly away because they're scared of your dragon. Don't get it twisted, you're dragon is the sweetest girl you've ever met. She's just like a puppy dog! Great for others not so much when you have a easily frightened dragon you want to tame. If it isn't her size, her personality more than fills the room as she loves to flap her wings in excitement and run around playing in the sand.
Guessing that the Night Fury hasn't seen other dragons larger than terrible terrors in Odin knows how long, your giant puppy dog of a dragon easily startles the nightfury just by looking at them. And that was a problem you had no idea how to fix. The food was one thing but to get a dragon used to other dragons was something neither you nor Hiccup had to ever deal with before.
Hiccup. . . you haven't thought about the others in a while. Everyday on this island was spent on surviving and now that the nightfury was of priority you're unsure just how long you've been on this island. But with no sign of anyone coming the thought of being trapped on this island forever, lost and alone, the tears couldn't help but form in your eyes. Your dragon sensed this as they nudged your side in an attempt to comfort you. Still you let the beating sun shine down upon you. The heat causing your body to sweat up a storm as your body rocked and swayed almost about to pass out. You only jolted in surprise when a large chunk of cool mud was launched at your direction.
(Y/N): *whipping off the mud* achk . . pfft . bleh. ...ohhh (Dragon name), Seriously??
Your Dragon gave you a playful laugh as they began to roll around in the sand and mud. It was a particularly hot day and back on Berk the too of you would find comfort in a nice cool mud bath while soaking up the sun. At least you were laughing with them as you threw some mud back. Your laughter didn't go unheard. Slowly but surely through the shadows emerged a living shadow, to put it simply. The Night Fury had been intrigued by the noise and had decided to come over. Upon noticing it was you and also your dragon they seemed to stand still almost hesitant to move forward.
Noticing this you try to usher them to come closer.
(Y/N): *softly* that's it! . . come on closer. We won't hurt you. . if you come here I could give you some fish! You like fish! I know you do!
All this talk about fish made your dragon sway with delight as they happily stomped in the mud. You were a bit worried that their movement was going to scare off the Night Fury especially after a few splashes of mud. But surprisingly they didn't run away. The coolness of the mud seemed to sooth them. And as if a miracle was happening before your very eyes the Night Fury slowly sat in the mud alongside you and your dragon. Unsure of what to do your dragon happily rolled around in the mud in which the nightfury followed suit. But even still, if you or your dragon got too close, the nightfury would growl and snear. Still, you had an idea of how to get this Night Fury to start opening up more.
And so the second part of this nightfury training fiasco could commence! Creeping up on mid day you would happily start a mud party in which you and your dragon would play, splash and roll around in the mud together. Slowly coaxing the Night Fury to follow suit until eventually they felt comfortable enough to join in all by themselves. You would feed both the Night Fury and your dragon letting them know you mean no harm and before you new it the Night Fury was happily waiting each day to join in on some mud fun and free food from the mystery human!
You even had moments of being able to touch and pet the Night Fury! But only in certain spots like on their snout and chin. Got too close to any other parts and they would pull away, but thankfully no orange plasma blast or teeth anymore!
On another day of playing in the mud you noticed something particularly odd about this Night Fury. Their scars. You were smart enough to understand that whatever dragon trappers were on those ships had done something truly awful to this Night Fury. But strangely some of the scars still look fresh? Almost none have deteriorated in color. You would soon understand why this was as the Night Fury was off napping next to your dragon. In their sleep they would toss and turn their scars rubbing against the course rock and stone. What made it worse was that their back legs would begin to scratch and claw at their skin like a cat with a bad itch. Looking at their claws they looked larger than Toothless's. Long, Sharp, almost ingrown and misshapen. Then what you expected to happen did. Their claws, with all their scratching, had broken skin and reopened the scars that laced their body.
Thick drops of blood started to pour out of the Night Fury's left side. Without thinking you rushed in to try and stop the bleeding. But upon you touching their skin the nightfury jolted awake. In an instant they backed away and darted into the woods leaving a trail of blood in their wake.
----------------------------------
(Y/N):. . . *softly* that's it . . .keep them occupied.
Thankfully the Night Fury didn't stay gone permanently. After a few days they had returned back to you and your dragon. They became extra keen on keeping a distance between you and them. Though you couldn't just stand by and let them harm themselves like this. You were going to help this Night Fury whether they wanted help or not!
Your Dragon was on "special" duty today. Being a distraction for the Night Fury during feeding time today. They happily rolled around in the sand, pushing rocks and fish around and just doing whatever they could to keep the nightfurys focus on them while you snuck up behind them to try and soften those talons currently growing out of their hind feet.
Taking a small carving knife you did your best to try and shaven down some of the more serious claws. And it was going well! Great actually! Until the poor Night Fury felt the need to scratch. . . and realization settled in that they couldn't scratch that itch no more. Turning their head to look at you little was exchanged as they began to bear their teeth. Hot fire flared in their maw you could hear the sound of death emitting from their core. As they slowly approached your sitting form you did what you thought was the only chance of survival in that moment. Letting out your hand and without looking them in the eye you awaited to feel the burning sensation of flame on your palm. But no burn came. As the Night Fury slowly settled down they gently sniffed your palm, until their nose made contact with your hand. A low rumble escaped them as their eyes grew wide and soft anticipating your next move.
(Y/N): *turning your head back to look at them, your other hand rests on their face*: . . . I don't want you hurting yourself anymore okay? . . . You deserve to move on from this. If you need hands for scratching I'm right here, and trust me when I say they'll be a lot more gentle than you're old mangy claws.
And with that the long haul was over. . . as they looked into your eyes they saw a future full of comfort, finally putting their restless life at ease.
(Y/N): *Your dragon lay beside you with the Night Fury resting in your lap watching the senset in the distance.* . . . I'll think I'll call you Scratch. How does that sound?
The Night Fury only sighed in contently as the two dragons that surround you drifted off to sleep.
--------------------------
Loud plops followed thrown rocks as Hiccup and Toothless sat by a nearby stream. Feeling the ever growing frustration build up inside him Hiccup let out a loud scream as Toothless perked up to look at his rider. What Hiccup didn't know was that his scream would be heard by Astrid as well as she hoped off of Stormfly to try and lend Hiccup a listening ear.
Astrid: Hiding from you're father again?
Hiccup: *Startled* Astrid?. ..What .. What are you doing here?
Astrid: *teasing* Trying to figure out what that howling was.. . .soooo what's with the screaming.
Hiccup: *Annoyed not at Astrid but due to the circumstances of his life right now*. . . Well you know. ....it's just my father wants me to be on Berk at all times at all hours of the day.
Astrid: Well, with all of these raids it's only understandable as to why.. .
Hiccup: But even still we have yet to see any signs of these raids stopping . ... *he sits down by the water his mind lost in thought* ..... Not to mention (Y/N)'s still lost.
Astrid: *concerned* Hiccup.
Hiccup: I know they're still out there. I know it. . . . it's just frustrating. I swear me and Toothless have spent countless nights searching for them. We've checked each island, every shore and nothing. But until all these raids are done and Berk is safe my Father will keep me and Toothless here while we have to sit knowing that our friend is lost out there . ....somewhere.
Astrid: *Has seated herself next to Hiccup as she tries to string together words of encouragement* And I know they're out there too. . .*She tries to rest her hand on Hiccups shoulder*. . . you've done a lot with what you're able to do right now. I'm sure that if (Y/N) could see that they'd understand. But you have to remember they're one of us Hiccup. They're strong and so are you. We'll find them Hiccup and we'll beat down anyone who tries to get in our way.
Hiccup: *feeling a bit better he tries to look up at Astrid with a newfound hope in his heart* . . .Thank you Astrid. . . I just hope you're right.
----------------------------
(Y/N): *You exhale a deep breath as you gaze upon the morning ocean.* . . . we're leaving, now or never, I'm coming back home.
Sitting atop your dragon with nothing more than the clothes on your back you looked out at the looming ocean. It seemed to stretch on forever, like you were at the edge of the world one wrong turn and you'd fall right off. But you felt confident in your albeit, half baked plan. After weeks of waiting you had no other choice but to take matters into your own hands and attempt to leave the island and find your way back home. Luckily you weren't alone as you had your dragon and one nightfury to accompany you.
Speaking of which the Night Fury you named Scratch was right behind you every step of the way. More specifically they were attached to the hip with (Dragons name) and had formed a sort of sibling-esc relationship with your dragon. Scratch is a bit uncomfortable to be around all these ships as they stared at them cautiously. But you did your best to reassure them letting them know they have a much better life a head of them, leaving these nasty ships behind for starters.
Looking out to sea your plan was that if these ships are on this island they must have come from somewhere and that somewhere has to be the opposite direction. So . . . just follow the "path". It wasn't a great plan. A pretty dumb one actually. But you had no other options.
As the morning sun began to rise in the distance you took the daylight as the signal to leave and up to the clouds you went as you set off on a path that would either take you home or leave you stranded at sea.
-----------------------------
Flying through clouds, clouds, and more clouds the sun had reached the highest point in the sky and still no signs of anything say for the strand tiny islands with a bit of trees and rock formations here and there.
You felt bad. Real bad. You weren't sure if your dragon was exhausted. It's not as if you haven't flown for hours on end but still without the others to keep you company the hours felt like days amongst the stagnant sky. Well, at least Scratch was keeping (Dragon's name) awake. Scratch was actually enjoying the open air. Smiling and floating around you as they flew around the clouds leaving whispy trails in their wake.
As sweat poured out of every orifice of your body you nearly fell off your dragon when you noticed a tiny colorful dot amongst a sea of ocean blue. A longer look would all but confirm that it was a ship! A ship! You're heart racing you almost left Scratch in the sky alone as you had (Dragons name) blaze towards the ship below. But your celebration would be short lived as the lone ship suddenly turned from one to two then three and four. What looked to be a whole fleet of ships that had emerged from the great blue you charged back up towards the sky not wanting whoever was operating said ships to spot you. Their red flags and armored sailors would tell you a bigger story. Raiders. Dragon Raiders.
Luckily it appeared as if Scratch hadn't noticed the ships. If they did they would most certainly had turned back around and fled. You signaled to your dragon to keep her distance and stay hidden in the clouds. Only dropping occasional to keep a track of those ships. Knowing that Scratch was going to follow (Dragons name)'s lead you weren't worried about them being spotted so long as you stayed high up in the sky.
But you couldn't not follow the ships either. With another dumb plan in mind your best bet at survival is to follow wherever those raid ships are headed. If it's Berk or not if there are people, wherever they are headed there has to be a place to stop and rest.
---------------------------
Deep looming horns alerted everyone on Berk. Some were startled while others showed great pleasure as they picked up their swords and maces and axes and prepared for another battle to hit their waters. Dragons soard and roared and followed their riders movements sharing much oc the same excitement to stretch their wings and fight once again.
Hiccup was far off into the woods only alerted of the coming battle by Astrid. As Hiccup returned to Berk waving off the other riders to prepare themselves, Gobber stopped him for a quick briefing of the situation.
Gobber: All say. This is the fourth time this week! Don't these raiders have anythin' betta to do? Not that I'm complain'! Keeps me plenty business since I have to keep everyone's weapons sharpened.
Hiccup: Well . . .I'm glad you're looking at the positives. But stay safe Gobber . . I
Gobber: Stay safe? I'm not a baby I'm a Viking! There's no fun in a battle if yer playin' it safe.
Hiccup: I . I know but.. .
Gobber: I get it. I get it. I won't go disappearin' on you lad like (Y/N). . . *his voice goes somber for a moment* but if you want to see them again . . . it's you who should be playin' it safe. Now go!
Gobber barks, ushering Hiccup and Toothless to join in on the others as a fleet of ships make their way towards Berks shores.
-----------------------------
By the stars above. You must be dreaming, or hallucinating. Even though your dragon was on the verge of passing out she managed to pull through sticking it to the end. Savoring the fruits of her labor it was almost too good to be true. The fleet that you'd been following had taken you straight back to Berk. Your home, how you missed familiar company. But celebrating had to wait, you nearly rushed on ahead without thinking. The realization settling in that these ships are not here on good terms means you would have to be fighting soon.
But what about Scratch? If a fight broke out . ... you're not entirely sure what would happen to them. Where would they go? Would they seriously try flying back to that island?
You're thoughts were interrupted by the cacophany of war crys of some very angry Vikings beneath you. As boats touched sand countless Berkians and raiders fought ferociously as clangs and clings of metal touching metal echoed around you.
Luckily these raiders were hoping their numbers would be enough to stand against Berk. Not bringing any dragons of their own you didn't see this fight lasting long. Still other dragons and dragon riders would have to be warry of the ships and their arsenal of dragon traps.
Especially. . .
Hiccup: Toothless Dodge!!
Hiccup?... You stop in your tracks. Whipping your head around, you're not even focused on the fighting anymore. Zipping and twisting you try your best to keep up with the ever fast Toothless. But you're sure that speeding black whiz is none other than Hiccup and Toothless as purple flames shoot at the ships below.
(Y/N): HICCUP!!
You call out.
(Y/N): HICCUP!!!
Once more, it was enough to get the chief to be"s attention. Toothless had slowed down as they hovered trying to pinpoint the sound of your shouting. It would be Hiccup who spots you as he guides Toothless over to your call.
Hiccup: (Y/N)!!!?? ....(Y/N) is that you???
And there you were, a bit slow to come to him Toothless nearly flys into you, excitement beaming from both him and Hiccup. Neither of you could talk, too stunned to speak. All Hiccup could do was lean out and touch you. A sentiment you shared as you touched his hand confirming that he wasn't dreaming. Then came the water works. Oh how you cried.
Hiccup: *in disbelief*.. . .Ho . How .?? . .(Y/N)? . ..is that really you??
You could only sit atop your dragon. Hands over your mouth to stifle cries. But your tearful reunion was short lived as the hustle and bustle of war grounded you back to reality. Looking around you had nearly forgotten of a certain nightfury that was supposed to be accompanying you. But as your heart sank they were nowhere to be seen. Your head whipped around to try and spot them but you were sure that they had fled once the battle had broken out. You couldn't blame them for flying away. Hiccup noticed your panicked searching as they tried to ask you what was wrong.
However, what you feared would happen, did. Your Dragon was beyond excasuted. With neither you or Hiccup paying attention to youur surroundings countless traps flew towards your location from the ships below. Toothless was able to dodge no problem but your dragon was not as lucky. A strange sense of Deja vu hit as Hiccup called out to you. You and your dragon careened towards the earth. Falling atop a ship as a large net entangled you and your dragon rendering you unable to escape. In an instant a group of raiders swarmed you. With their weapons and nasty glares you struggled with each movement as your dragon squirmed and flung herself violently around. Not taking to kindly to being tied up on a boat full of humans who want to kill her.
You struggled some more but only stopped when your eyes made contact with the glare of one large raider. He towered over his companions, his ax dragged along the shipdeck as he approached you and your dragon.
Hiccup: (Y/N)!!! *he calls out to you in a panic as Toothless dives towards the ship*
As you closed your eyes preparing for the worst an oh so familiar dragonous cry emitted from the sky. . . but it wasn't from Toothless.
Instead of flashes of purple flame bright orange shots beamed from beyond the clouds. A black form swiftly dove past Toothless and Hiccup. A speed unlike what Hiccup has ever seen before. Unable to make out the creatures form only flashes of orange followed their trail. Toothless had nearly stopped in his tracks, almost launching Hiccup off his back in the process. Toothless was carefully eyeing the surrounding air, their curiosity almost overriding his desire to listen to his rider.
Hiccup: C'mon bud we have to help . . . .*his voice trails off as he stares in awe at the sight before him*
The raiders on the ship, no longer payed any mind to your trapped body and dragon. Their heads whipped around to try and spot the mysterious dragon that was shooting at their ship. The largest raider had even dropped his ax upon nearly getting stuck with a large orange ball of flame. Though the mystery would reveal themselves as they landed ontop of you and your dragon.
(Y/N): . . ..*shocked* . . Scratch!
Scratch had come out of hiding. They stalked the raiders before them. Arched back and their tail whipping around, they didn't even need to bare fangs as their glowing orange eyes shot daggers into the raiders. Half of the crew fled, some even jumping overboard. The other half, freightned, slumped behind the largest member. Though anyone could see that even he was frightened at the sudden appearance of this new nightfury. With cautious steps, Scratch approached the startled raiders. Their claws scratching along the wooden shipdeck, they snarled, as their body started to glow a slight orange. For a moment it felt as if the world stopped. In that moment all eyes stared at the fearsome Night Fury who wanted nothing more than to tear apart the raiders that had caused harm to their new friends. Even Toothless and Hiccup, who had landed beside you were silent to Scratches presence. The silnce only broken once Scratch began to hiss and screetch, their body emitting a large blast of oarnge that was aimed directly at the raiders on the ship. A flash of orange and blue was all anyone saw before their eyes were shrouded by a flash of white.
