so ive been thinking about a worm/rwby crossover fic off and on for a while now, the basic premise being that team rwby (or at least ruby and yang) wind up in a cluster trigger.

yang, ruby, and blake are pretty easy

yang gets stronger the more she gets hurt, with some degree of regeneration to allow her to stay in the fight.

ruby gets danger sense that lets her sense when other people are in danger, coupled with super-speed/momentum control. crucially, her danger sense's range is just a little farther than she can reach in a dead sprint with the warning she gets.

with blake i barely even have to change anything from canon. her semblance lines up perfectly with her issues. teleportation + decoy + invisibility for a couple seconds, perfect.

weiss is where things get tricky. she's probably some kind of tinker, considering her rich-kid status, her dad seeing her as a tool and/or puppet, etc. the problem is, what the hell would her specialty be. bc there's like. two things going on with her. number one: the realization that her family, and the company they own, are fucking evil. and two, her dad only sees her as a tool for his own ends.

cybernetics might work? like yeah it lets her get her independence from her dad on the face, but the materials she needs are expensive, and she's literally turning herself into a tool/puppet. something to think about.

ruby screaming at the sugarplum fairy to bring back her sister is so heartbreaking, truly cannot bear to even look at siobhan's face. i can't even make myself watch the show in one sitting i have to keep pausing between sentences. also not be make everything about supernatural, but it fully reminded me of all hell breaks loose pt. 1 when dean has to sit with the reality of his brother's death and he too chooses to scream at the only otherwordly, powerful entity he knows exists to bring his brother back. a miracle that it works for him. tragedy, that this probably will not work for ruby. godd. but the intensity of grief and emotion that scenes like this bring to a story is just off the fucking charts. it's SUCH good storytelling, it's so compelling and it hurts so fucking bad. when you lose someone like that, it's like a limb being cut off. there's this space in the world that used to be connected to you, and suddenly this thread holding you to the earth is cut off. you feel this emptiness there, and it's terrifying reaching out to that space that was warm and finding nothing there. and siobhan brings that helpless, terrified rage to that moment so damn well. god. goddd.

Also this is your reminder to... Watch Classic Who wherever you can find it!! It's a really enjoyable show to put on while getting things done in the house or multitasking :)) and it's okay to skip Doctors, it's just too long not to. There's no shame in watching a show for fun.. as in watching how you enjoy it most. We're all true fans no matter how much we have seen. I personally watch at least the first and last story arc per Doctor as my rule right now, though I have seen a LOT of the First and I don't want to miss ANY Fourth at this moment (I'm on him right now.)

Nobody knows what I mean when I talk about that ridiculous space worm that was literally. And I mean GENUINELY. Just green bubble wrap around a guy. You're missing out on so many goofy effects, but also some clever editing for the time and some stories that are really exciting! And some boring ones! But the boring ones are when I get my things done so thank the writers for my productivity

Do yourself a favor and sit down while this senile old man uses a blue box to NEVER get where he intends to go. Realize how little things really have changed. Marvel at the stories somehow drawn out into 6 episodes. Make fun of it. Love our show and know that we are the luckiest fans because we will NEVER run out of content :]

Hello just in case people aren’t aware (this is not me being shitty)

Ruby is NOT a self insert

Yrelia is NOT a self insert.

Both of these characters have elements from my life (I know someone whose parents resented them because they were told she was going to be a boy and found out at birth she wasn’t ie Yrelia) and to extent me (I love heels but hurt my foot so bad that I can’t wear them anymore unless it’s for a short time ie Ruby), (both have anxiety and (untreated) bipolar if you squint) (both didn’t have friends and had to relearn how to be around people and accept love) but they are not self inserts.

It’s impossible for people to not put something of themselves into their characters (intentionally or not) but yeah they’re not self inserts.

apparently the live action changed the ending, and though it still shares the same plot beats (you know which ones), it's less nonsense now. it's a pleasing surprise that gives me a bit of hope that the anime's will be modified too, even if i still cannot imagine it diverging too much, which means it still won't be the ideal ending that the story actually built up to. i guess i will wait until it's out to see if i watch it or not

but man, sometimes i really cannot believe that the same manga that cared enough to be heavily inspired by real life incidents (mayu tomita's stabbing, honoka omoto's and hana kimura's suicides) ended with the deuteragonist-now-protagonist looking directly at the reader and saying "[i'm dead inside] but the idol industry that my brother just killed himself over is so fun!", no self-awareness whatsoever. it was explicitly discussed several times that ruby's career as an idol would only last ten years. she told aqua to his face that, though she liked being an idol, she would give it all up to have normal days together with him too. what a fucking weird conclusion

Soulmates

So, I got interested in Parahumans again and remembered just how much I love Cluster Triggers/Grab Bag Capes, and I was wondering how those I could incorporate them into other power systems...

And then I remembered RWBY.

So, concept: Auras of different people can intermingle, so to say, granting minor secondary powers reflective of the other's Semblance, but there are caveats.

First: All parties need unlocked Semblances in order for this to actually occur, or have the event unlock Semblances as well. (Sorry, Penny and Oscar)

Second: Besides the obvious powers, participants are left with an intense emotional connection with one another, and a sense of when there soulmates are close and general sense of their emotional state.

Third: This connection is essentially a trauma bond, and while this can occur between Romantic partners, family, teammates, etc. there is absolutely nothing stopping soulmates from enemies

Fourth: One person can have multiple soulmates.

Ruby

Main Protagonist herself, she has a lot of soulmates. Not all of them are good.

Cinder: Established when Ruby unlocked her Silver Eyes. Following this, Ruby's Petal Burst becomes more explosive, and she can set her petals on fire (For her own peace of mind, she pretends this comes from Yang). Cinder, meanwhile gained the ability to contort parts of her body into something resembling sharpened glass, and extend her body parts while in that state. (She refuses to use this ability at all until after Watts'...'pep talk')

Jaune: Quietly established during their fight in the Ever After, Ruby gained the ability to passively boost auras around her, including herself, as long as she has hope.

Neo: Possibly established during the 'Tea Party', giving Ruby the ability to split off some rose petals to create simple illusions with some vocal ability. Neo's return ability never got the chance to be used, though she might have gained the ability to turn her illusions into twisted spires of fragmented glass.

Jaune

Weiss: Established during the Haven fight, giving him to summon simulacrums of of Aura infused objects and people he's interacted with using his Semblance (such as weapons) the clones of people aren't really usable in a fight, but he can summon weapons, such a spectral copy of Crocea Mors, Penny's swords, and even Pyrrha's weapons. Weiss, meanwhile, gained the ability to boost the Auras of anyone in proximity of her Glyphs...while she's singing.

Ruby: From Ruby, he gained the ability to momentarily phase through objects in between him and those he feels he needs to save.

Blake & Yang

That bond was quite obviously established during the Fall of beacon, after Adam cut off Yang's arm.

Blake: From Yang, Blake's Shadow Clones became more resilient and more animated, though this is reliant on taking hits herself.

Yang: From Blake, he gained the ability to "extend her hitbox", allowing her to extend her aura away from her body using body motions to increase her striking distance or essentially drag herself in the Aura's wake.

Ren & Nora

Established very long ago, and our first seen example:

Ren: From Nora, he gained the ability to reduce the damage of strikes the calmer he is.

Nora: From Ren, she becomes happier, and thus less noticeable to Grimm, the more electricity she absorbs.
