Percy and the Magikarps

The Pokemon World and the PJ World are the same. And since the Pokemon Gods spend most of their time in the world, it's easier for Poseidon and the others to visit their children, while Arceus and the others make sure they don't destroy the world or anything like it. A much friendlier and safer place, which led to Poseidon visiting Percy and Sally many times.

Poseidon walked out of the ocean as he reached the island, each step a mixture of grace and power as the evening tide lapped against the shore behind him. The sky was painted with shades of orange and pink, the sun slowly sinking towards the horizon. He inhaled deeply, savoring the salty breeze that carried the whispers of his ocean home. 

His destination was a house near the beach, quite isolated and quite big, it had been a gift to Sally. And the place where his mortal lover, Sally Jackson, and her young son, Perseus/Percy, lived.

In his hands, Poseidon held two new Magikarps, their scales glistening like molten gold and rubies in the fading light. Most of his former demigod children had regarded these creatures as little more than a nuisance, but his tiny Percy treasured them beyond measure! 

He can even understand them! 

Not many of his Demigods understand Water Pokemon that well, or at all! Ha! Kyogre was also surprised when he told him about it! 

As he approached the front door, he could hear his son's happy babbling near the water, mingled with the rhythmic lapping of the waves. Other parents would fear for him, but Sally's Pokemon were all around him, and the Magikarps were making sure he was OK too. Oh! He had some new Gyrados! He hadn't heard that they had evolved. 

With a gentle stride, so as not to surprise Percy, he moved and stepped inside, his presence filling the room with an air of ancient power and warmth.

"My little prince," he called, his voice a rich, soothing rumble. "Look what I have brought you!"

Hearing his father's voice, Percy toddled into the courtyard on unsteady legs, his chubby hands reaching out in excitement. 

His cherubic face lit up with pure joy when he saw the Magikarps. "Ma-gi-karp! Paa-paa!" he squealed, his words an adorable mixture of babble and genuine joy.

"Yes! Daddy brought you Magikarps! Who is my clever boy you are! You are!" 

Sally Jackson, hearing Poseidon's voice, appeared near them, her hair a cascade of dark curls framing a face that was equal parts annoyed and amused.

 She crossed her arms and leaned against the doorframe as she looked at Poseidon with a raised eyebrow. "Would you stop it, Poseidon? Percy already has over a thousand of them!"

Poseidon chuckled as he heard a deep, resonant sound that seemed to vibrate through the room. He knelt down and carefully placed the Magikarps in Percy's eager hands. "Look how happy he is," he said, his voice filled with paternal pride and a hint of mischief.

Percy, now clutching the new additions to his growing collection, began to rock back and forth, humming a tuneless song that gradually turned into a sweet melody. "Magi, Magi, Magikarp! Bite and splash!" he sang, his voice high and clear, filled with the innocent joy that only a child can possess.

Sally looked at her son as the Pokemon used a move they "shouldn't be able to do". Since when can they bite?"

Poseidon himself was surprised: "I have no idea, I will ask the others later. Did he teach them that?" 

Sally shook her head, a laugh bubbling up despite her efforts to remain serious. "But he certainly inherited your love of the sea," she said, moving to stand beside Poseidon. She placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed gently.

Poseidon watched his son, a tender smile playing on his lips. "No question, look how happy he is," he murmured, his eyes soft with affection.

Percy continued his song, his tiny voice carrying through the house. The Magikarps floated gently to the movement of his hands, their eyes reflecting the same innocent wonder that shone in Percy's and love for him.

By evening, Percy had fallen asleep from playing with the Pokemon, and his mother carried him to bed. The Magikarps returned underwater to the Gyrados as Poseidon and Sally exchanged glances. Poseidon knew that Sally was a powerful Water-type trainer, and he respected her skills. So he wasn't afraid for her, even though the Pokemon wouldn't hurt her or Percy.

Poseidon returned to the ocean when Sally led him away. He has work to do too, and he can't bring her Magkarps again! when he visits her.

She should have seen it coming when he returned with 2 Krabby's...

I know that I'm pretty late to the conversation, but I've just reread all of Vampire Academy and Bloodlines (possibly for The Untitled Jill Project) and it's the first time I've reread the VA series in years.

I'm just thinking about how, in my opinion, the quality of the VA series improved as we got into the last few books, and with Bloodlines, I think the reverse sort of happened. Spoilers for both series ahead. (Yeah, the last book came out nine years ago, but you never know.)

I think I hadn't realized how cohesive the ending of Last Sacrifice was. Details from as far back as the first book came up and were very relevant. The political plotline came together in a really tight way, Sonya Karp turned out the be Chekov's spirit user, we got more world-building details, the antagonists had complex and convoluted motivations, and even when there were plot threads left dangling, those actually served a purpose. I loved the part where Adrian pointed out to Rose that her actions had consequences and even though she had gotten what she wanted, not everything else was resolved, so people like Eddie and Sydney and Jill were left in bad situations, and she was partly responsible. It created a little more moral ambiguity, which I really enjoyed, especially since YA tends to like the very neat endings where everything winds up happily ever after.

The Vampire Academy books improved the deeper into the series you got. And, although I love Bloodlines, I do think that the first three books are much stronger than the last three. Which is a shame, because the series has so much potential.

I think Mead is at her best when she's writing something of a mystery. Last Sacrifice obviously comes to mind (they're solving a murder mystery, after all). Bloodlines had that, with the tattoos, Lee, and Keith being shady all building up to a really exciting climax. The Golden Lily wasn't quite as much of one, but the clues leading up to the reveal of the Warriors were well-placed. Indigo Spell went straight back into mystery territory, trying to find Jackie's sister. And then The Fiery Heart is where, in my opinion, things start to falter. There's a lot of interesting worldbuilding information introduced, with the new details about spirit and magic coming up, and it was fun to get into Adrian's head, but it definitely felt like this supernatural romance was shifting to become a lot more romance and a lot less concerned with the supernatural. But that's not such a big deal. It's the middle of the series, we're building tension, Re-Education has been a threat hanging over Sydney since page one of Bloodlines and we're finally seeing that fear pay off.

But then we get to Silver Shadows, and while I guess figuring out where Sydney is could be a mystery, it doesn't really resonate the way 'who killed the queen' does, in my opinion. Sydney's arc in Re-Education is great, and I do like the way the books deal with Adrian's mental health issues, but some of Adrian's chapters felt more like filler. And a bigger issue, imo, was that this was when we really started to lose the side characters. Some of my favorite parts of the first few books were characters like Jill, Eddie, Trey, and Angeline, and then the ensemble atmosphere was largely gone, because Sydney was in Re-Education and Adrian left Palm Springs. The final fight and flight sequence was really good, though, so I had high hopes going into The Ruby Circle.

The Ruby Circle is probably my least favorite of the books between both of the series, and I think that's a shame, since it's the finale. We'd just had a 'kidnapped character' arc, so I think there was less emphasis on describing everyone's reactions. We saw the biggest reaction from Eddie, but as a result, he got kind of flattened out from the really well-rounded character he'd been from the back half of the VA books and the first part of Bloodlines.

The Ruby Circle could have been a really good mystery, with lots of twists that tied up a lot of the lingering questions from the series. Except that a lot of threads from the rest of the series were dropped and didn't resurface. They never caught whoever was behind the assassination attempt on Jill. I don't think we even got an official resolution on whether Lissa managed to change the quorum law. The political plots that were integral to VA weren't significant in Bloodlines, despite it all starting because of a politically motivated assassination. We also never got a resolution on the rogue spirit user who turned Lee back from being Strigoi, or the spirit users who had been sent to the psychiatric facility in Tarasov (the prison from Spirit Bound). We never found Robert Duro. The bond itself was somewhat discarded, too, whenever it wasn't immediately useful for a plot point. Instead, we just got a scavenger hunt across the country, a few fight scenes where the protagonists were pretty much guaranteed to win, and a final showdown with a magic barrier that, as we learn after, would have dropped down on its own in a few hours for them to bring Jill food, anyways.

I obviously still like the series, since I'm rereading it and talking about it nine years after the fact. But I think that there were a lot of opportunities to continue plots from VA that were lost, even when they should have been brought back into the story.

If anyone has made it this far, I suppose I should throw in a pitch for The Untitled Jill Project, which will be my attempt to rewrite the Bloodlines series from Jill's perspective, because I think there's still a lot more story to be told. I haven't got it all mapped out, but I intend to at least tie up some of the narrative loose ends I mentioned that bothered me about the series in that story. I might write up another post here soon about how Jill's characterization also suffered as Bloodlines went on, if anyone's interested.

Anyways, if anyone has any strong opinions on what I said (agreeing or disagreeing) please let me know! I'd love to talk about the series with people, since no one in my real life has read it, and I'm curious to know what the rest of the fandom thinks about how the narrative progressed in Bloodlines.

On October 6, all of these people were alive and minding their own business. They were living their own lives. Islamic terrorists from Gaza took that all away from them, leaving a permanent scar on their communities and the entire nation of Israel.

Tumblr: A Safe Place for Marginalized Groups

Tumblr, founded in 2007 by David Karp, is a unique social networking and micro-blogging platform that allows users to create personal blogs and share content in various forms like text, videos, images, GIFs, and even music. With no strict post-length limit, it is a space where creativity and personal expression thrive. By 2024, Tumblr had over 519 million blogs and billions of posts, making it a popular platform, especially among younger generations (Ruby, 2023).

What sets Tumblr apart from other platforms is how it creates a safe, inclusive space for marginalized groups, particularly the LGBTQ+ community and feminists. Unlike Facebook or Twitter, Tumblr does not pressure users to build public profiles or connect with large networks of friends (Keller, 2019). Instead, it allows for anonymity, letting people freely express themselves without fear of judgment or harassment. About Tumblr, it is "deeper, darker, more hidden, or hole-like."

The freedom made Tumblr a favourite for LGBTQ+ youth and feminists. Tumblr users are 193% more likely to identify as LGBTQIA+ than other platforms (Cohen, 2021). For many, Tumblr became a refuge, a place where they could openly share their experiences and connect with others facing similar challenges. According to Robards et al. (2024), it indicates that Tumblr's culture of openness and support fosters strong communities based on shared identities and experiences. Not only that, the study shows that LGBTQIA+ youth are found to be five times more likely to use Tumblr than other platforms because of the sense of safety and connection it offers.

In a digital world where marginalised voices are often silenced, Tumblr stands out as a platform where people can be themselves and find support from others who understand their struggles.

Tumblr: A safe place to Pursue and Express Feminism

David Karp created the unusual social networking and microblogging site Tumblr in 2007. It lets users build personal blogs and share information in a variety of formats, including text, photographs, videos, GIFs, and even music. It is an environment that encourages creativity and individual expression because there is no set post-length restriction. With over 519 million blogs and billions of postings by 2024, Tumblr is a well-liked site, particularly with younger users. (Ruby Daniel, 2023)

Tumblr is unique among social media platforms because it provides a secure and welcoming environment for underrepresented groups, especially feminists and the LGBTQ+ community. Tumblr does not require users to create public accounts or interact with big networks of friends, in contrast to Facebook or Twitter. (Jessalynn Keller, 2019) Instead, it does not limit users on how they can express their opinions or themselves. They can freely be themselves without fear of judgment or toxicity.

For many users, Tumblr’s ultimate appeal lay in its mixture of political, educational content and content that was more playful, leisure-oriented and interest-based.

Numerous Tumblr users have characterized their Tumblr site as an extremely personal repository of all their interests and loves, ranging from politics and pop culture to personal life.

As Emily, who is now in her late 20s, recalled: “I got my Tumblr account when I was 14. I remember an acquaintance suggested it, so I checked it out, and it really offered me a place to collate all my interests. I fell down the rabbit hole pretty quickly.” (Hannell, 2024)

For the younger feminists on the platform, Tumblr's blend of political and personal content fulfilled a vital function. Feminism was no longer an impersonal, scholarly, or abstract endeavor. Rather, it was instantaneous, captivating, and lighthearted, integrated into a personalized timeline that compiled each user's passion, interest, and political affiliation. (PTI, 2024)

If Karp was good at anything aside from art and writing, it was being the kind of bottom that could rile Saku up like no tomorrow. The defiance being shown only flipped a switch in the brunette, prompting her to hastily shed her own clothes and let her tongue briefly dance along ruby red lips...The other had tasted of apples during that kiss, and her whine music to her ears...

But, the brunette certainly wouldn't deny enjoying those few pecks, either. The game was already thrilling enough, as it was...They'd just been a sweet extra to her. But, that grin...That beautiful, tantalizing grin...

Oh, that just made the brunette want to breed Karp senseless. She could give out any apologies after they'd come down from the pleasure high, if any were even there to be had. And, finally, another smile would spread on her face as she looked down at the half-dressed girl before here.

"Like a naughty little pet like you would have the satisfaction of seeing me back down, love. I'm going to break you with the girlcock you want so badly..."

Her voice had a low growl to it as she moved to begin undressing her friend, the gleam in her eyes promising the beginnings a merciless breeding session as she began to carefully remove the leggings. Fine, she'd play by Karp's rules for now...But, that wasn't going to save the other forever.

One by one, she would take her time peeling clothes off of Karp, the leggings being the easiest to remove...But, in time, Saku would remove the shorts and Karp's precious, baby blue boyshorts, leaving kisses along her friend's neck and letting her hand cop a feel of the other's inner thigh before backing off and stroking her twitching shaft carefully.

"There we go...Now, time to put you in your place, my little pet.~ I hope you're ready to be a good girl and get bred..."

...Because Saku had no intention of waiting for a response, before pinning Karp down and kissing her lips desperately, almost selfish in her hunger. She needed this...And, to be fair, Karp had gotten her all riled up by being such an adorable little brat, so it was only natural that she plunge her cock deep into her friend and begin to slam her hips with an almost mindless, eager fervor, right?

Those were simply the rules. She just enforced them, and Karp was more than breedable anyway!

No sooner was Saku in reach did she throw herself into it. Lips pressed to lips, letting her dear friend taste the sweetness of apples on hers. Hands clutched at top and small bulge ground itself into that pressed leg. Just listen to that sweet talk. Feel that top energy just radiating off her with force of will alone. Saku was going to absolutely dominate the hell out of her and Karp knew it.

A small whine left when kiss was parted, followed by a pout. She was enjoying that, you know. But with promise given alongside orders that pout turned into a grin. Oh she was talking up a BIG game now. Best part? After what she'd experienced Karp knew she could back it up. But it was part of the game. Had to play her part, thats half the fun!

"Oooo, is that a promise? Gonna mess me up good Saku?" Giddy snickering was accompanied by a few more pecks before finally breaking off. She'd sit alright, but the rest of her clothes: the leggings, the shorts, her comfy baby blue boyshorts? Saku'd have to get em off herself as demonstrated when Karp would raise up one foot, leaning back with that grin again. "No backin out after big talk like that you know."

So what was the result of Cinder's plan to use Jaune as a bait?

"Huh?" Jaune asked, confused. "What do you need me for?"

"You have a power." Cinder replied. "A special power no other has on this planet. And you're going to use it to help us."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Really?" She circled him one way, while her Salazzle circled the other, wincing at the cold rain. "You mean there isn't a Pokémon deep with the forest with the skill to befriend anyone?" She stepped closer as he stood frozen in place. She placed a hand on his shoulder. "Or bless them in exchange of offerings."

"Uh..." Jaune gulped. "Salazzle don't really like temperate rain. Maybe she should-"

"The friendship." Her grip tightened. "Now."

"You don'twant to do this." He whimped. "My friends will come for me. They'll stop you."

"Oh, you poor fool." She held out a black ball with red markings and a white diamond in the center. The black seemed to move sround her fingers. "I'm counting on it." She pulled the ball to her, then gave a small chuckle. "Unless you mean your real friends, because I planned for that, too."

"Nice of you to visit, Uncle Qrow." Yang said, holding a yellow umbrella over their heads.

"You already said that, kiddo." Qrow replied.

"It's still true, though!" Ruby laughed, splashing into a puddle. "We never get to see you anymore!"

"Work's been pickin' up, especially since the Grimm-" Qrow stopped. "Okay, enough is enough." He turned to the hooded figure behind him. "You've been following us since the rain started. What do you want?"

"It doesn't matter what I want." The figure tossed a ball from one hand to another, rolling a different one out in it's place. He juggled them with an unsettling chuckle. "All that matters is what my goddess wants, and she wants what she wants." He growled the last she with a horrible venom in his voice. "And what she wants is to stop you." He tossed the balls out.

A Drapion roared to life below a hissing and flapping Gliscor. They eyed the three with an sense of unnerving menace. The man threw his head back, the hood falling away to reveal a man with a ponytail, sharp eyes, and wide, disturbing smile.

"Girls, run." Qrow said, holding his arm out. "I'll distact him."

"No." Ruby said, stepping forward. "Two on one isn't fair. We'll help, too."

"It might be unfair if it's three trainers against one," Yang shrugged, folding the umbrella, "but if he's threatening us, I'll make an exception."

Crescent Rose, Ember, and Celica stood ready in front of their trainers. Qrow groaned as Harbinger, his Absol, took the front. This really wasn't his day. Should have known better than to think the rain wasn't the worst luck he'd have today.

Weiss sighed as she looked down at the Magikarp flopping below. Of course this one was going to be overpowered so close to her evolution. She probably had a power boost from this rain as a result of her Swift Swim earlier today.

"Come on, let's get going." She walked forward. "Let's go find your idiot trainer."

"Karp!"

That didn't sound like a normal response. The sound of sand being slapped about wasn't heard either. She turned to see a man with a mustache standing over- no, standing on Levi, his heel digging into her scales. "What a pathetic creature." He then kicked Levi with considerable force, causing her to fly into Weiss. "And what a pathetic Schnee to pair with it."

Weiss growled and rolled the Magikarp off her. "Feebas, use Water Gun!"

"Bass!" Feebas popped from the lake behind. A stream of water erupted from her mouth, hurtling towards the unknown man.

"Rotom, Mirror Move." As the man said it, a wide barrier made of hard light appeared behind him, sending the water back at Feebas at double intensity. She dove away just in time to dodge it.

"What?!" Weiss spluttered. "Rotom can't use Mirror Move!"

"This one can." He said, looking at his fingernails. "Because I ordered it to."

"This one? It?" Weiss scowled. "Your Rotom is a Pokémon, not a tool!"

He yawned and looked at her with bored expression. "What's the difference?"

"Just stay where you are, and nobody gets hurt." Roman Torchwick said, disguised as a painter. "We were ordered by the City of Vale to repaint the entire exterior of this building, and we can't do that until this rain has stopped." He pointed to a spilled can of paint. "You see that?" He used the opportunity to adjust his fake mustache. "That happened earlier. Thank goodness nothing happened except that so far. Isn't that right, my good friend, Mister Ozpin?"

"Ozpin" silently nodded. In truth, the man was away on Beacon business with Glynda Goodwitch. In his place was Hush disguised as him. Meanwhile, Neo was on the roof, ready to kick more paint down if she needed to.

The trainers who saw this shrugged and went about their day. If Ozpin says he's legit, who were they to argue? Besides, it was raining. Nothing was happening out there anyways.

name: willow mae anderson gender: female general appearance: big brown curls, wide brown orbs & sharp features personality: willow is very independent. she thrives when she is alone and rarely asks either parent for help, even as a child. special talents: the brunette is V E R Y musically talented. not sure where she got it from, but since she was born, the only thing that can calm her down is music. not only does she sing, but she can also play piano, guitar and the drums fairly well.  who they like better: neither.  who they take after more: her creativity definitely stems more from ruby, but in most other ways, she takes after nolan. she is very stubborn ( thanks to both of them ).  personal head canon: before willow was born, ruby insisted on a home birth. there was no way in fucking hell ruby was going to be cooped up in the hospital without her essential oils and music playing.  face claim: zendaya

name: anjali aria cruz-karpe gender: female general appearance: pin straight black hair, a wide smile & smile lines personality: since anjali was born, she has always been very mellow. she’s quiet and outspoken, but she doesn’t mind that.  special talents: knitting and crocheting. also a fairly good doodler.  who they like better: ceci. she’d always had a slight preference for her mother alhtough she would never say that aloud. who they take after more: her organizational skills and need for neatness definitely come from stuvan.  personal head canon: finding a name for anj was easily the hardest thing stuvan and ceci had to do. it was important to stuvan for her to have a traditionally indian name, although cecilia was a little reluctant of that idea. once they found the name ‘ anjali ‘, both of them fell in love with it. they couldn’t imagine their little girl having any other name. face claim: naomi scott

name: ziggy wynn könig gender: male general appearance: dark curls, a pointy nose & stained tshirts  personality: ziggy is a major slob and has quite the pungent vocabulary. he’s very vocal with how he feels and prefers that other are that way too.  special talents: other than pickpocketing and his charm, ziggy doesn’t have many things he would consider a talen.  who they like better: lucas. he likes that the male is quiet and that he’s a good listener. better than gracie is... who they take after more: gracie. he’s quite mischievous and has gotten himself into various dangerous ( sometimes illegal ) situations since he was young.  personal head canon: when ziggy was about four, he went missing for three hours -- something that scared the shit out of both of his parents. after a long enough time, lucas found him in an empty bathtub playing with his boats and duckies, completely content. face claim: miles teller

name: winifred ‘winnie’ lu jensen gender: female general appearance: round eyes, a sharp chin & long locks personality: winnie is a little bit of a black sheep. she keeps to herself and prefers writing her thoughts instead of voicing them.  special talents: one of her passions is writing, although winnine would never admit that it’s her special talent. she’s much too humble for that.  who they like better: cohen. winnie has always been a daddy’s girl and it hurts cohen knowing that this is true.  who they take after more: nellie. she’s cool, calm and collected but knows how to get what she wants.  personal head canon: the first couple of days after winnie got home from the hospital, cohen made it his mission to let nellie get rest. in order to do this, he wore winifred around the house in a baby wrap, tight to his chest almost all day while he did dishes and cleaned the house. face claim: anya taylor-joy

name: anderson aidan shaw gender: male general appearance: dark under eye circles and perpetually messy hair personality: anderson is very quiet. almost too quiet. but, when he’s upset -- his fuses blow and he turns into an entirely different person. he’s been like this since he came out of the womb. special talents: he’s a smooth talker ( thanks to his father ) and has a fairly good voice ( thanks to his mother ). he sings in a band but knows that it won’t be his forever thing. who they like better: rory. aidan is much too noisy ( and drunk ) for him. plus, rory has always given him more attention.  who they take after more: unfortunately, aidan. his substance abuse issues began when he was in his early teens and just like his father -- he’s having trouble finding his way out. personal head canon: when aidan and rory found out rory was pregnant, aidan INSISTED on them naming him aidan. there was no way in hell rory was going to do that -- so they settled on his middle name as aidan. face claim: lucas hedges

Reluctant Reader Wednesday: Earth Hates Me: True Confessions From a Teenage Girl by Ruby Karp

16-year-old Ruby Karp has written a book filled with lots of stories from her own life as well as advice for fellow teenagers. A lot of this advice is about dealing with bad behavior, both in person and online. Topics include FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), bullying, social media, feminism, friendships, and family. It’s unusual to get so much advice from a teenage author, but Karp has already been stretching her communication skills through being a comedian and a journalist.

Teens looking for advice about how to cope with school, the internet, and everything else will appreciate these stories by one of their peers who’s dealing with a lot of the same problems that they are.
