“Strangers” might be 2017’s most promising new queer series
Take that 2016, 2017 is already kicking your butt. Refinery 29 and Beachside Productions have teamed up to bring us a fresh new series, with a QWOC leading lady. Sign. Me. Up!!! According to Refinery 29, Strangers follows a young woman named Isobel (Zoe Chao) who, after being unfaithful to her boyfriend with another woman, opens up her home as an AirBnB does some serious soul searching. The series is directed by Mia Lidofsky, who brought along some of her Girls compatriots including Jemima Kirke and Shiri Appleby. Oh and another actress you may know
LEISHA HAILEY! Hailey plays Isobel’s therapist and is pretty much perfection in the trailer. Speaking of which, check it out.   The premise is certainly something new, and the fact that Isobel’s bisexuality is explored and celebrated makes Strangers a can’t miss. There’s no release date yet, but we’ll be sure to shout it from the rooftops when there is.  You can also expect recaps and more coverage here on Bella. Sundance audiences got a sneak peek this past weekend, where Refinery 29 also announced its new season of the Shatterbox Anthology series, which features the work of female storytellers.   http://dlvr.it/NBg8S6

“My goal is to make the spectrum of sexuality more ‘normal’ and show that it doesn’t have to be such a binary. The show really is about the fact that love is ever-changing. It’s about finding yourself and your truth then staying truthful to that, no matter what. I would love to continue portraying a plethora of sexualities in people onscreen. Season 1 was just the beginning of that exploration.” —creator, writer and director, Mia Lidofsky.
Strangers ‱ produced in conjunction with Refinery29, follows one woman’s journey toward discovering the wonderful truth about her sexuality. The series begins when Isobel, played by Zoe Chao, decides to AirBnb out a room in her house, welcoming awkward encounters, new friends, and, most importantly, queer love into her life.

2017 Outfest LGBT Film Festival Lineup Revealed
The 2017 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival will kick off July 6 with Francis Lee’s God’s Own Country, a drama about a Yorkshire sheep farmer and his relationship with a Romanian immigrant, which debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released by Samuel Goldwyn Films.
The festival, celebrating its 35th anniversary, will close July 16 with IFC’s Freak Show, Trudie Styler’s directorial debut starring Abigail Breslin, AnnaSophia Robb, Laverne Cox and Bette Midler.
Additional gala screenings include the U.S. centerpiece Strangers, written and directed by Mia Lidofsky; the international centerpiece Close Knit, written and directed by Naoko Ogigami; the documentary centerpiece Kevyn Aucoin: Beauty & the Beast In Me, directed by Lori Kaye; and the special centerpiece Behind the Curtain: Todrick Hall, directed by Katherine Fairfax Wright.
“Outfest began 35 years ago with a group of students desperate to find positive depictions of themselves on film; today Outfest is the launch pad for the storytellers that bring our stories to life on screen.” Christopher Racster, Outfest executive director, commented.
The festival, held at venues throughout Los Angeles including the Directors Guild of America and the Theatre at Ace Hotel, will screen 194 films from 30 different countries.
Special events will include OWN’s Queen Sugar directors panel with Outfest alumnae Aurora Guerrero, Tina Mabry and Cheryl Dunye; a conversation with I. Marlene King, the executive producer of Pretty Little Liars and Famous in Love; a screening of Chasing Amy in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary, followed by a conversation with director Kevin Smith and Guinevere Turner; Showtime Networks’ More Than T; a sneak peek at season four of Amazon Studios’ Transparent; and a screening of REVRY’s Suspiciously Large Woman: Bob the Drag Queen Comedy Special. TV Review: Strangers Episode 6 Will Make You Ship Milo And Zoe!
TV Review: Strangers Episode 6 Will Make You Ship Milo And Zoe!
Here is why I admire Strangers Season 2, and Mia Lidofsky’s creation. It has taken its lead star, and made her, in essence, your favorite secondary character. Let’s be frank! When we watch movies or shows, we mostly gravitate towards the secondary characters that guide or accompany protagonists. Maybe, it is a testament to how we all feel like side projects rather than main events, which best
