Figured I might try rambling about how wonderful the DW s3 finale trilogy is, all with some screencaps that get it best
All screencaps from QuiteUnlikely.net
Tumblr media
I've rambled about this before, but this shot is some ancient philosopher with his twink boytoy arrangement (think Socrates with Alchibiades or Aristotle with Alexander). Just. Obsessed with the Doctor being in supplicant/trainee position here.
Tumblr media
Much binary code has been spilled about how Martha and Jack should be absolutely pissed about the Doctor wanting to "care for" the Master, and rightly so, but the moment Martha realises professor Yana might be a Time Lord is freaking everything. Just look at her. She's forcefully keeping herself from exploding with joy at the idea the Doctor might not be alone anymore, keeping in mind how she actually sat there and listened to him waxing about Gallifrey. It's the same energy she gives when she finds out the Doctor found Rose. I understand the pleasures of vindicativeness but my girl Martha Jones has the emotional capacity of the Pacific. Same goes for Jack. That guy went through everything the Master put him through over the YTNW and still decided his dying words should be letting the Doctor know his husband is out there. Struggling through radiation poisoning to get him a date was the least the Doctor could do in return.
Tumblr media
Just sir Derek Jacobi acting porn.
Tumblr media
There is a repeating choice in camerawork where the Master is shot from below and the camera turns around him, especially when he's surrounded by the Toclafane. Gives the viewer an excellent sense of vertigo that makes you feel you're inside his crazy pretty head.
Tumblr media
I am absolutely obsessed with visual choices in the TenSimm phonesex scene. Just, the sudden sense of intimacy between them, underlined by the Master taking out his private phone? The Doctor stepping away from Martha and Jack for the talk? The way he conspiratorialy lowers his head for asking the Master out for a date talking about how they might just be together in whatever way, fighting across the galaxies if that's what he wants? Amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This moment is amazing and not discussed enough probably because the fandom is too busy finding hidden meanings of winning and losing in thoschei context to appreciate what's explicitly laid out before them. Like, you can just tell the Master knows the Doctor's there but still waiting for the proper order of moves in this fucked up game of chess they are playing (and also actually focused on his plan in which the Doctor is just one element and not the focus). Meanwhile, the Doctor's all oozing determination right before he states his claim in the game: I'm not here to kill him. I'm here to save him. That's it. He knows how difficult it will be, but he will win the game by "saving" the Master. Both from others and himself. In this very simple, very explicitly laid out context, the Master dying rather than getting "saved" by the Doctor is... well, let's call it a draw.
Tumblr media
Just an apprecitation of David Tennant's acting here. You can see this does not come easy to the Doctor. You can see he feels the weight of forgiving the Master. You can tell he really did suffer for himself and others like the Christ figure he is over the year. At the same time, the arrangement of his hands on the Master's body is so overwhelmingly protective. He knows what he's about to say is horrible.
Tumblr media
Ok, this scene was backward engineered. RTD just really wanted thoschei to hold hands under his run. There's a reason this moment keeps being giffed as them actually reconciling and that's the author wanting it to feel like this. At the same time, the little alone moment the Doctor and the Master get on the ground is wonderfully crafted. The Master going into grandiose Paul Atreides' He who can destroy a thing has the real control of it mindset while the Doctor just calmly calls his bluff and talks him down because he really does know him. A contrast to the chaos going on oboard the Valiant. Followed by what would be mistaken for aggressive sex in the wild if you got just a teensy bit drunk.
Tumblr media
Just appreciation of Jack holding the Master by his collar like a naughty cat that won't let his nails get trimmed :3
Tumblr media
Look at him. Look at the impossible warmth in the Doctor's eyes. This bitch is so freaking hopeful. His mind in already in the space of cuddling with freaking enormous Flemish giant rabbits on Teletubby planet he and the Master are going to engage in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OK, this moment. This moment. Lucy seriously doesn't get due appreciation as a character. Judging from the comments on my "Lucy adopted the Master because he reminded her of her cat" staute more eternal than bronze post, a lot of people don't like the idea she was just hypnotised into working with the Master and quite right too. No, this is a woman who enjoys power, who gets all ears when she's called "the power behind the throne". This is also someone who has witnessed the last remnants of humanity cannibalising themselves into murderballs, abandoning all hope for better future. End of the day, it's all going to end and the end will not be pretty. It's also someone who suffered a year of abuse from someone she actually loved and does not have the 900 years of witnessing all sorts of horrors the Doctor has. But just look at the calmness with which she gives the gun to Jack. She just did what needed to be done. When the Doctor says the Master "corrupted" Lucy, it's... well it's not exactly that he's wrong, but it's not the case of "oh, just an innocent dainty girl who met a bad man", it's more the case of "If you take a life do you know what you'll give? Odds are you won't like what it is". Contrary to what some writers would have it, DW's stance on violence isn't "guns are baaad, m'kay", but it is "once you've ended a life, it changes you as a person", hence aside from "nooo that's mah husband :(" the Doctor stopping Francine killing the Master, while the latter goads her to it, come on, you have it in you, just as I did the first time around way. The Master gave Lucy an opportunity to kill. Now she's just going along with it. Killed by the monster of your own making, if that ain't the story of the Master's life.
Tumblr media
Ok, ok, ok, the pieta. Because this is the freaking pieta, with the Christ figure holding up the Satan figure. How much more blasphemous can you get? How much deeper into the essence of mercy can you get?
Tumblr media
There can never be enough said about the Doctor's reaction to the Master saying he'd rather die than be imprisoned by him. Yes, there's the level at which he has a backup plan AND THAT CANNOT BE EMPHASISED ENOUGH, but from the Doctor's perspective? That's the Master denying everything he is, rather than just granting him the experience of another Time Lord - especially this Time Lord - by his side. That here, thank you mr Tennnat, is pure devastation. It's the one possibility the Doctor never took into account. The one rule of the game he never considered valid.
Tumblr media
But on the other hand, this here? This here is the Master genuinely surprised and almost sympathetic of the Doctor, on the account of focusing on all the good times they had together, all the times they together achieved things they never could seperately I mean leaving aside the Axon incident being one of the meanest things the Doctor ever did to the Master, tee hee. He seriously never expected the Doctor to hold these memories fondly, to actually think of him fondly. That's the juxtaposition to him enumerating all the times the Doctor's beaten him earlier in the episode. For him, it's always only about the objective winning. For the Doctor, it's been at least partially about the relation. The way his eyes venture of the Doctor's face? That's surprise and sympathy. But of course, not strong enough to change your mind when you do have a plan B.
Tumblr media
The Master's so playful. So playful when he says the "I win!" line. He knows the Doctor. He knows his stake in the game was to "save him". Dying is the only way left for him to at least not loose. But for the Doctor it became so much more, and he didn't even realise when.
Tumblr media
This is the face of the man who wants it to still be a game and still denying just how much real the things are getting. Look at him, he's ready to mirror the Master's playfulness the moment he gets a chance.
Tumblr media
Bless you, mr Simm, for just how bloody peaceful you look here. For looking like you've just had the first peaceful sleep in centuries. You look like a freaking doll.
Tumblr media
Oh yes, we will appreciate the burying your face in the other's hair here. To quote the brilliant line from a tensimm fic by @theprodigalpragmatist y'all need to read, A mourning wail. A mammal unburdened with consciousness prodding the limp form of its mate and finding no response, crying out to gods it couldn’t conceive of. A defeat.
Tumblr media
And of course, the downturned lips of mr Tennant mourning and dutifully accepting the Doctor's deepest defeat to date. This man's still thinking of the fun he'd have pressing Flemish gaints' fur to mr Simm's round face.
Tumblr media
The choice to include the wink to the audience that the Master is in fact just fine right at the moment when Martha leaves and the Doctor is alone in the TARDIS is briiliant. Oh yes, just gimme that God descends to the bottom of hell's frozen lake and finds Satan to pick them up feel.

Hi, how are you? This is kind of a random question but I was looking for a sweet romcom to watch and I was like, hey, maybe I ask you what YOUR favourite romantic comedy is?
What an AWESOME question, Nonny! Thank you so much for asking. And as it's my usual style to be shamelessly extra, I'm gonna list my top five and hope that my enthusiasm will be effective enough to sway anyone reading this to give some of them a viewing.
Tumblr media
Moonstruck - Romance & immediate attraction that strike like a thunderbolt out of the blue, set in an Italian-American community in NYC. Flavored by the backdrop of the opera La Traviata and a full December moon, this tale of finding a second great love moves like a whirlwind.
Tumblr media
And each time I watch it, I'm transported back to my grandparents' home by the same sights, textures, and indelibly Italian traditions I experienced in my childhood.
10 Things I Hate About You - A brilliant, witty retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, set in a high school in the grunge era '90's. Young Heath Ledger, whose charisma is off the charts. An excellent soundtrack of contemporary music--with the addition of Cruel To Be Kind, which incorporates a key line from the play itself.
Tumblr media
Roxanne - A modernized version of Cyrano de Bergerac, with Steve Martin (who also wrote the screenplay) as the dashing but bulbously-nosed Fire Chief of a small Colorado resort town, who falls hard for Daryl Hannah's visiting astronomer. It's a glory of words, words, words, with poetry that inspires passion. Proof that love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind.
Tumblr media
And speaking of Daryl Hannah, I must give an honorable mention to the delightful Splash, a rom-com retelling of The Little Mermaid.
Bridget Jones's Diary - A modern woman's quest to find love despite a lifetime of disappointments. Bridget is 1,000% relatable (at least to this Hopeless Romantic😁). Patterned after Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, it has one of the greatest they-finally-kiss scenes of all time, with a closing line by Bridget's Darcy that is so frickin' sexy, you just have to melt (while wishing your partner would say that same to you).
Tumblr media
Honorable mention to the sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
Mamma Mia!/Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again! - How can I not make this a two-fer, with all the amazing opportunities to sing out loud, so so many ABBA hits? Plus, Colin Firth in a white dress shirt. And then a wet Colin Firth😁. But seriously, these films & their soundtracks have provided me inspiration for chapters of multiple fics. Most recently (relatively speaking) Andante, Andante--which proved pivitol for setting the mood for the lovemaking in Chapter 17 of Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight.
Tumblr media
I actually cried when I saw it sung in the movie the first time (oh heck, every time now) because it so captured the feelings I wanted to evoke that first time that my OFC, Teyla, and Stephen made love.
Thank you again, dear Nonny, for this chance to share some of my favorite romantic flicks! In fact, I have about fifeteen others I could easily add to the list, but perhaps I can elaborate upon them another day.

Teen Mom: The Next Chapter returned for a brand-new season chock full of baby mama/daddy/grandma drama like never before. (At least not this year, anyway.)
This week, MTV dropped the Season 2 storylines for the nine main cast members, who will take on everything from substance misuse and sobriety, to racism and harassment in the upcoming season.
Here’s a look at what’s in store for the moms of ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ Season 2:
Briana DeJesus
Tumblr media
Season 2 is slated to be a heavy one for Briana DeJesus. Briana’s mom, Roxanne, shares that she’s been “hiding a substance misuse issue” and “has been on methadone for years.” (Methadone is a medication most-often used to reduce or stop the use of opioids.)
In response to the shocking news, Briana demands that her mom seek help in order to continue being a part of Nova and Stella’s lives.
Briana will also get a “surprise” from Baby Daddy No. 1, Devoin Austin, who reveals he’s moving out of the state.
“Now, Briana must navigate Nova feeling abandoned by her father, a situation Briana is all too familiar with herself,” according to MTV.
In response to the Season 2 storylines that the network dropped this week, Devoin took to social media to express his frustration.
“🤦🏾‍♂️ is all ima say..,” he commented on a post by @teenmomfanz that featured the cast storylines.
In another comment, Devoin explained his reason for moving, claiming he can’t “be there” for his kid “with no money.”
“ … And these kids ain’t cheap,” he continued. “I’m looking long term. Leaving them s**t behind when I leave this earth. Not working until I’m 80 etc. I made a lifetime decision, Didn’t just [go] get a temp job to make me feel good for the moment. I chose a company that if I apply myself, I’ll bring so much to the table and be straight for life!”
Devoin also clarified that his frustration was with MTV, not Briana, whom he said has “been very supportive thus far” of his decision to move.
“I’m just wondering why the network would try me like that,” he wrote. “This one the reasons I branched out to make another living elsewhere. They janky as hell for that description.”
Catelynn Lowell
Tumblr media
In the new season, Catelynn Lowell “navigates her own boundaries” with her mom, April. (As The Ashley has previously reported, Cate and April became estranged last year, with Catelynn and her siblings taking their mama drama to social media several times.)
Although Catelynn and April have been on the outs, it appears that Catelynn’s oldest daughter, Nova, still wants to have a relationship with April.
Viewers will also see Cate and April head to therapy, and the return of ‘Teen Mom’ father-daughter dances, courtesy of Tyler and Nova.
Amber Portwood
Tumblr media
In the upcoming season, Amber Portwood and her couch moves back into the house she and ex/baby daddy No. 2 Andrew Glennon once lived in, and to the surprise of absolutely no one, “things get serious quickly” when she begins dating a new man named Gary.
Amber will also be a “damn good mom” to daughter Leah, whom she shares with ex Gary Shirley, right up until she and Gary (OG Gary, that is) get into an “explosive argument” during Leah’s 15th birthday celebration.
Ashley Jones
Tumblr media
Season 2 of ‘Next Chapter’ will follow Ashley Jones as she continues working on her nursing degree in Nevada and parenting daughter Holly while her husband, Bar Smith, is living in California, seemingly up to no good.
“Ashley is heartbroken when she realizes Bar has been talking to another woman and contemplates divorce,” her storyline for Season 2 continues.
Like Devoin, Bar’s mom, Shen Williams, took to the comment section to share her frustration over what’s to come in the upcoming season, claiming she wouldn’t be tuning in to watch.
“Now after reading all of them I’m not sure how much is actually true smh yeah it’s a no for me,” she wrote.
Shen went on to accuse the show of being “rigged,” before sharing some other (very on-brand) opinions.
“I am gonna say again, this show is what I said it was…a lot of stuff ain’t true and that’s speaking for all cast,” she wrote in her typical “Shen Speak” format. “[If] the truth was aired y’all would never stop watching. This s**t rigged.”
“I’m not willing to throw someone I love under the bus on lies for a check,” she commented, before threatening to burn the whole place down…as you do.
“If someone come for me I will set this place on fire.”
Maci Bookout
Tumblr media
On the upcoming season, fans will watch as Maci gives Bentley driving lessons.
The Ashley will give you all a moment to let it sink in that the babies we saw born on 16 and Pregnant are now getting their learner’s permits. (Can anyone else feel the wrinkles forming on their face as they read that?!)
Maci will continue to play nice with Bentley’s dad, Ryan Edwards, who is “doing well in recovery.” The mom-of-three will also work on building a relationship with Ryan’s girlfriend, Amanda Connor, whom he met in rehab.
Also of note is the fact that Maci is offered an actual job— outside of selling leather-pocketed T-shirts and putting her mug on MTV.
“Maci gets offered a job as a high school girls’ wrestling coach, but she wonders if she can handle it as she has an overflowing plate of responsibilities with her own three kids,” Maci’s Season 2 storyline reads.
Cheyenne Floyd
Tumblr media
On the upcoming season, Cheyenne Floyd and husband Zach Davis find themselves at odds about having another child. Meanwhile, Cheyenne and Cory Wharton– the father of Cheyenne’s first child, Ryder– clash over co-parenting and communication.
Cheyenne, Zach, Cory and Cory’s baby mama and girlfriend, Taylor Selfridge, ultimately “put aside their differences and come together” to educate themselves and help Ryder after she is called a racial slur by another child.
Leah Messer
Tumblr media
In the upcoming season of ‘The Next Chapter,’ Leah Messer agrees to help her dad as he goes to detox, which, upon completion, provides him with a chance to reconnect with both Leah and her three daughters.
As for Leah’s twin daughters, Ali and Aleeah– whom she shares with ex-husband Corey Simms– they are “thriving in middle school” and Leah is teaching them to stand in their power “use their voice on issues they believe in, including strong sex education in school.”
Viewers will also see Leah have a hellaciously hard time in the holler with her ex-husband Jeremy Calvert after Jeremy “harasses her” at work, leading her to take legal action and leaving the former couple’s daughter, Addie, “caught in the crossfire.”
Jade Cline
Tumblr media
Jade Cline and baby daddy Sean Austin have the wedding of their dreams.  Season 2 will also see the return of Jade’s parents, who are continuing their “journey of sobriety,” though the couple’s past mistakes will “have consequences that impact Jade and Sean’s happily ever after.”
Sean and Jade also make the decision to homeschool their daughter Kloie.
Mackenzie McKee
Tumblr media
Mackenzie McKee and her boyfriend Khesanio Hall have been dating for one whole year and are officially living together, along with Mack’s three children. In addition to shacking up together, Mack and Khessy want to have a child of their own, but their plan is complicated by the fact that Mack had her tubes tied years ago after three dangerous pregnancies.
“Getting pregnant again could impact Mackenzie’s overall health, but it’s a sacrifice she’s willing to make, so they look into all the options,” Mack’s Season 2 storyline reads.
Viewers will also see Mack finalize her divorce from husband Josh McKee in Season 2, after which Khessy “finds the perfect way to propose.”

A local organization here has released a list of books that they feel are imperative to have in the time ahead. The list was not easily shareable, so I copy-pasted it here.
