The Twilight Films: I have no memory of this place

As I tinker with the draft for Inter Vivos, I decided to watch the first Twilight movie for what I'm pretty sure is the first time since it came out in theaters. I have no idea where it's streaming these days and had no desire to find out and pay whatever subscription service has its rights this month, so I did this by purchasing the first three films on DVD at a thrift shop for less than $10.

For context, I was 16 when the movie version of Twilight came out. I read the first book probably in early 2006, and devoured the rest of the books as soon as they came out. I went to a book signing for the release of Eclipse in 2007, and at that book signing I wore a black t-shirt on which I'd written "I sparkle in the sun" in glittery silver puff paint. Stephenie Meyer read that shirt, and smiled a little and made a comment along the lines of "Do you?", and then she signed my books.

(Aside: I no longer possess these books. Once the book series was finished, I no longer had a fervent desire to see what happened next fueling my love for Twilight, and hating on Twilight became popular and a means of demonstrating that you were not Some Silly Little Girl pining after Sparkly Vampires. The signed copies were donated, so they've either found a new home, or are sitting among their fellows on the shelves of a Goodwill somewhere. Seriously. Go into any thrift store with a book section and you'll be able to find a copy of Twilight. Or, perhaps, any book that sits in a thrift store for over a fortnight metamorphoses into a copy of Twilight...)

I don't remember how I felt about the Twilight movie at the time, though I can guess I didn't like it as much as the book. I don't remember seeing New Moon or Eclipse in theaters, but I know that I must have, because I still have the ticket stubs. My Twilight ticket stub, alas, appears to have been tragically lost to time.

(Aside 2: I made a habit of collecting ticket stubs from about the age of 12-13 until things went fully digital and you stopped receiving physical tickets for anything. This is how I know I saw The Wombats in concert three separate times, and just rediscovered the fact that I possess an autograph from the late Morgan Spurlock on a ticket stub from a screening of his Comic-Con documentary.)

I have no memories of seeing the second and third Twilight films whatsoever. I'm positive that I never saw Breaking Dawn, because by the time it came out I was in college and was distinctly Too Old to Be Excited About Twilight. And, while I have participated in the "Twilight Renaissance" with fic and meta commentary, what little I delved back into the source material was strictly the books, not the movies.

Which is all a very long-winded way of saying that I went into watching this movie very, very fresh. I had no memory of this place. And so, now that I'm twice the age I was when I first saw Twilight, my thoughts on the first film:

The effects aged poorly. They can't have looked good even for the time period, right? The vampire running looks utterly goofy, the jumping is clearly on wires, there are shots where people are sort of gliding in such a weird way that they don't look inhuman so much as like they are standing on a treadmill.

All the meme-able lines deserved to be memed. I knew it was coming, and "the fluorescents" still made me laugh out loud.

The fashion was certainly... current for the time.

I've only read excerpts of the books in recent years, not done a full re-read, but boy, does all the stuff I found romantic in high school look like a parade of red flags now. I feel like this must have come across worse on screen than it did in the books. Surely. I hope.

Alice was barely in this film? I suppose she plays a larger role in later books, but I was surprised how little time she got here. I think Rosalie actually had more screen time. Odd.

I was pleasantly surprised by the chemistry. Yeah, it's awkward and stilted a lot of the time, but there are a few scenes where Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson seem legitimately drawn to each other, and it's cute.

In short, I had a good time, and look forward to watching New Moon so I can enjoy Michael Sheen hamming it up as Aro.

gonna switch things up & start with complaints and close off with the things i liked sooo yes;

1. the nightmare scene (gif above) did not have the pile of bodies but is rather about a baby.. foreshadowing hm

2. bella & edward have sex 3 times and she gets pregnant. now we’re all still confused about the logistics of how that happened at all but like.. even in the afterlife you should know to wrap it before you tap it edward.

3. jacob’s POV. for 200 pages. for actual fucks sake.

4. edward out of desperation asking jacob to have a baby with bella so that ratatouille wouldn’t be born?? bitch what the fuck why are you prostituting your WIFE to her best friend who’s in love with her & was in love with him??

4.5 jacob being tempted by the offer.. fuck you, nasty bitch

5. stephanie’s prolife views being adamantly shown throughout the book (mostly with bella and rosalie).. ALSO

5.5 why are you trying to make rosalie seem like such a cunt?? like you can’t make me hate her but it’s a bit much

6. jacob coming off as extremely sexist when he gets desperate and tries to find a mate, picking the fuck out of women’s appearances

7. the pregnancy as a whole, not only for being inaccurate but so fucking gross. like i hate bd pt1 (except for the wedding scene & a couple others) but someone the movie form was more tolerable than the books & that’s saying something

8. much like most pregnancy tropes & in actuality, OBVIOUSLY not emetophobia safe. i knew that from the film but it’s definitely much worse in the book form.

9. jacob saying he ‘dreamt of seeing bella naked, but not like this’ when she’s stripped down & dying after delivering recluse. ew. EWWWUH

10. look i get rancid has accelerated growth and all but a newborn baby does not have their eyes open, stephanie.

10.5 speaking of ranch sauce, jacob imprinting on her. and saying we can share?? no bitch that’s a baby, you can share a jail cell with someone though!

11. stephanie referring to POC vampires as ‘uncivilized..’ oh! that’s not..

13. the ICONIQUE fight scene is not in the books. i knew that going into it but was still extremely disappointed by it

well. that was a lot. how about we move onto the positives now?

1. the wedding scene. even in book format it’s beautiful.

2. charlie is so endearing when alice hypes him up in his little suit. that’s babygirl sorry.

3. seth is so cute, such a sweetheart. like that’s my little brother you guys! (i adopted him)

4. rosalie making a diy doggy bowl for jacob is so cunty, she’s such a bitch i love her

5. while the fight scene wasn’t in the books i still got the good brain tingle reading through the confrontation scene. i still enjoyed it for what it was, but the fight scene would’ve carried.

5.5 the respective couples celebrating their ‘win’? against the volturi. cute.

6. the ending scene with bella letting her guard down and letting edward see her memories. yes i almost cried

6.5 edward being really excited about it? so fucking cute

7. the book having a happy ending is so relieving. like yess they deserved it (NOT you jacob, don’t get it twisted)

& that concludes this breaking dawn review. while i had a lot of complaints & had a hard time reading a lot of the boon because it was painfully long & so much of it was insufferable, there was still a lot of good ass parts.

also, eclipse is still that bitch. she was not uncrowned. stan her for that

Y/n’s POV

Even from many hundreds of yards away, I can smell the blood in Carlisle’s briefcase as clearly as if it were in my own hands. A whine leaves me. I want it.

“Fight it,” Jasper commands from my side. He and Emmett flank me, ready to stop me from getting to the bag of human blood if my instincts win and I go running towards it. Right now, I’d say the chances are about fifty-fifty. And shrinking.

Carlisle reaches into his briefcase, ready to pull the bag out.

“No not yet, she doesn’t have it.” Edward stands a few paces in front of Carlisle, monitoring me, and my thoughts, closely. Ugh he must think I’m so weak.

“It’s alright, it’s only natural,” he calls back, though he sounds annoyed.

I force myself to refocus. Eyes on the prize, Y/n. You can do this. You want to be in control more than you want human blood. You don’t want to be a dangerous person. You can do this.

Edward’s nod to Carlisle is nearly imperceptible. Carlisle opens the briefcase once more, only this time, he succeeds in bringing the stiff, half-frozen bag out into the sunlight.

Its scent hits me in the face and the burn in my throat increases tenfold. I drop into a crouch. I want it. It’s mine, it’s mine.

No!

With a snarl, I shake my head, forcing myself to cling to my human wants instead of my carnal, vampire wants.

You want to be able to go shopping with Rose and Esme. You want to go see a movie with Alice and Arthur. You want to have an actual date with Jasper. You’ve got this.

Carlisle opens the bag.

My humanity leaves me, and the monster within emerges full force. I rush towards the human blood. So sweet, so tempting.

Someone grabs me and forces me to the ground. Get off, get off, get off!

“Mine,” I snarl. The voice doesn’t even sound like me.

Someone cries out in pain, and the hands leave me. The noise breaks through the fog in my brain. It sounds like someone I know, someone I care about…Jasper!

Somehow, my worry for Jasper overrides the allure of human blood. I force myself to stop running forward, and turn back.

Jasper sits on the ground, managing to look stunned and pained at the same time, clutching his right shoulder. Carlisle is at his side a second later. I don’t look for the bag of blood, but its scent is a bit fainter now. Did he throw it? Maybe I should go looking…Jasper’s harsh breaths draw me back to the present. Somehow, I hurt him. Knowing I’ve caused him such pain makes my stomach hurt. I sink to my knees slowly on his other side, not even sure he wants to be around me right now.

“I’m so sorry. I-what did I do? Did I bite you?”

Jasper shakes his head, looking both starkly confused and fascinated. “No, I’m not in pain anymore. Just for a second, it felt like my arm had been ripped off.”

Edward nods from his stance in front of us. “It all happened very fast. He grabbed Y/n, she wanted him gone, and then he got hit with the pain. Vivid, realistic pain. If I hadn’t looked at him and seen his arm perfectly in tact, I would’ve guessed from his thoughts that it had been ripped off.”

Carlisle catches on a split second before I do. “You think Y/n had something to do with this?”

I sit back on my heels, staring at the grass. One blade is so much taller than the others.

“Think about it.” Edward’s voice is fainter than before. “There’s no bite marks, Jasper’s arm isn’t really gone. The only thing that could’ve acted as the causal mechanism is Y/n’s thoughts.”

“Perhaps it was a cramp, or-”

“Carlisle, have you ever known a vampire to get a cramp?”

“Wait, hold on. Y/n?” Jasper’s soft voice is close to my ear. “Are you alright?”

I manage to get words out, but they sound all high pitched and squeaky. “I’m a monster.” The breath I don’t really need becomes shallow and quick. Ugh, I wish I could cry! It feels like my insides are crumbling.

Jasper moves his hand soothingly up and down my back. I definitely don’t deserve his comfort, but goodness do I need it.

“You are not a monster.” His tone is firm leaving no room for argument. “You didn’t actually hurt me, you just made me think you did.”

“Like Jane,” Emmett chimes in. Who?

“Not exactly like Jane,” Carlisle muses, sounding cool and collected. “Esme was in real, actual pain yesterday, but it seemed to fade when Y/n was touching her. As soon as Esme moved away from Y/n, the pain returned.”

“So she can inflict the idea of pain but take real pain away? That doesn’t make sense.” Edward’s voice is condescending.

Jasper jumps in, still rubbing my back. “No, I think it might all be in the mind. A few months back, she actually bit me, but when I was touching her it was like I forgot about the pain. It didn’t come back completely until a few minutes after I let go of her.”

“Maybe she can extend her ability beyond her touch, like Bella? It would take practice.” A huge smile spreads across Emmett’s face. “Lots of potential there.”

“Y/n,” Carlisle’s voice is polite, but there’s barely restrained interest. “When you were a human, were you sensitive to others’ physical pain?”

I shake my head slowly, feeling steps behind everyone else who is quickly piecing this together. “My human memories are so fuzzy…but when I was touching Esme, I hurt too. It wasn’t as bad as I imagine an actual bite to be, but I felt something. It was like a stomach ache that didn’t go away until she was out of pain.”

Carlisle shakes his head, eyes wide. “Fascinating.”

My panic flares. “Not fascinating. Terrible,” I wail. “Not only am I a vampire, but I can make people feel like their arm has just been ripped off? What-” I gasp, trying to force myself to calm down. “What am I?”

“Nothing is wrong with you,” Jasper insists, cupping my face. “We will figure this out, I promise.”

I let out a breath, resting my forehead against his. I’m so grateful for Jasper. Even after I essentially tortured him, he finds it in his heart to forgive and help me. “Thank you.”

Carlisle gently takes Jasper’s arm, giving it one final check to make sure he’s unharmed. Once he’s satisfied, he stands. “Let’s call it a day, shall we? Good work, Y/n. We’ll try again tomorrow.”

I don’t want to go back inside. What I really want is to go deep into the forest where I can freak out in private, but the threat of attack from an unknown vampire prohibits me from doing so. Edward gives me a sympathetic look. I try to brush it off, and stand with the rest of the group. Jasper takes my hand, silently communicating his support. I give it a squeeze, taking extra care to be gentle. I desperately don’t want to hurt him again. He offers me a soft, trusting smile, and I nearly break right then and there.

“Let’s go lie down.”

Following the rest of the group, we head towards the house. Thankfully, everyone else is in town today, so I don’t have to confront any questioning glances. Jasper and I can just go straight up to his room. He shuts the door, giving us a semblance of privacy. Immediately, I fall onto his bed, lying face down. He says nothing, only sits next to me and strokes my hair.

I take a few minutes to think before I speak. I just hate that my special ability is so awful. Edward can read minds, Alice can see the future, Rosalie has awe-inspiring self-control, Jasper can make people feel actual emotions, and I hurt people.

I groan, pushing my face further into Jasper’s duvet. “Why?”

Jasper sends me calming emotions. It’s enough for me to finally sit up and face him.

“It’s not a bad thing, Y/n. Honestly, it could be pretty useful.”

I roll my eyes. “I don’t see how hurting you is useful, Jasper.”

He shakes his head, taking one of my hands in his. “Not that. I’m just saying, with the threat from the vampire who attacked Esme…if someone attacked you, you could incapacitate them. I’m not going to lie and say that doesn’t make me feel better.”

I sigh, knowing he’s right. But there’s still a more central issue. “I don’t know how to control it, and that makes me dangerous. For all I know, that vampire could attack me and I wouldn’t be able to summon the ability again or whatever and it would be useless. Or, you could take my hand or kiss me and I could hurt you again.”

Jasper pauses, considering. I know his mind is piecing this out strategically. “We’ll have to learn how to induce or activate it. What were you thinking the moments leading up to getting me off of you?” He cleverly avoids acknowledging the pain I caused him, and I’m both grateful and annoyed. Still, I take his question seriously and think.

“I just wanted the blood. You were an obstacle to that, so I wanted you to let go of me.”

He nods quickly. “You were feeling focused, thirsty, desperate, and determined. And you were feeling it all so intensely….What were you thinking when you lessened Esme’s pain?”

My response is automatic. “I just wanted her pain to go away. She was hurting, and I love Esme and wanted her to stop hurting.”

He considers. “Right now, I don’t think the causal mechanism is anything you’re doing intentionally. I think it’s all based on gut reactions. You didn’t consider hurting me, you just wanted me to let go. You didn’t think of ways to stop Esme’s pain, you just deeply wanted it gone. Like most things in this new life, you revert to relying on your instincts.”

I begin to catch on. “So you think it’s like a skill I could learn?”

“Yes. Starting now.” And with that, he holds his arm up to his mouth and bites down, hard.

“Jasper,” I gasp, immediately trying to pull his arm away.

He winces at the pain but makes no move to suck the venom out. I consider doing it myself, but then get the point of his actions. He wants me to stop the pain with my will. I sigh, feeling desperate and ridiculously out of my depth. I do want his pain to stop, but I don’t know how to make it stop. Still, I can try.

Gingerly, trying not to hurt him further, I take his arm in mine once more. I close my eyes, focusing on how badly I want his pain to go away. Please, please, please, please.

“Y/n.”

I open my eyes to find Jasper grinning broadly.

Surprise and disbelief fill me. “It worked? I did it?”

His smile widens and he encircles my waist, pulling me into his lap. “You did it.”

With a smile of my own, I shake my head slowly. “You promise you’re not in pain?”

He rests his forehead on my shoulder and places a soft kiss there. “I don’t feel a thing.”

As my euphoria fades, anger creeps in. “I can’t believe you bit yourself.”

He shrugs, continuing his kisses along my collarbone. “It was for a good cause.”

Good cause, my ass. Enjoy a taste of your own medicine, Whitlock. I bring my own arm to my mouth, but before I can sink my teeth in, Jasper pins my arms behind my back. He gives me a disapproving look, which makes me roll my eyes.

“Seriously?”

He nods, his eyes not leaving mine. “Pain is for me to bear, not you.”

I roll my eyes again, but this time much more halfheartedly. Instead of continuing the tiff, I lean down and kiss him. His hands release my wrists and grip my thighs, pulling me even closer. I hold back a smile at his immediate response and instead allow the desire to flow through me. I will never get tired of kissing him. In the span of less than a second there’s approaching footsteps and a knock at the door. Esme. I practically fly off Jasper, feeling guilty. He chuckles, though he looks equally abashed.

At Jasper’s invitation, Esme opens the door, smiling sweetly. A quick look to my right reveals Jasper’s hair to be a mess, not at all like its usual calm state. Oh man, this is so awkward. Esme doesn’t comment, her smile just brightens. Internally, I groan.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.” There’s an edge of humor to her voice, and I want to bury myself under the covers. Or in a hole. “Carlisle, Edward, Bella, and I were going to put on Casablanca, and we were wondering if you would like to join us.”

“Sure, Esme.” Jasper has regained most of his composure. “We’ll be right down.”

“Wonderful!” Esme shuts the door. As soon as I hear her retreating footsteps, I groan and smush a pillow against my face.

“We just got caught by your mom,” I lament. Though as the awkwardness begins to fade, I can laugh about it.

Jasper similarly recovers, and chuckles as he lowers the pillow from my face. “Unfortunately, it’s a normal thing around here.”

I raise my eyebrow, intrigued.

“You’ve noticed that vampire hearing makes private conversations difficult.” I nod. “And you’ll soon catch on that vampire hearing makes private anything difficult.”

Oh.

A nervous laugh escapes me as my eyes widen. “Oh that’s so awkward.” I gasp. “But you can  feel it! Oh my gosh,” I’m properly laughing now. “Poor Jasper.” I stroke his hair, unable to stop my laughter.

He grins, a long-suffering look on his face. “It is unbelievably awkward. Edward and Bella are the worst. And then Edward knows that I know and I know that he knows I know, and it’s just,” he makes a noise, shaking his head and burying it in my shoulder.

I snort and place a kiss on his head. “Well, I’m betting the past few minutes have at least begun his payback.”

Jasper makes a show of closing his eyes and checking. When he opens his eyes, he’s smiling again. “Oh yeah, he’s miserable.”

I grin, placing one last kiss on his lips before standing up and pulling him with me. “Good. Let’s keep that same energy during the movie.”

It’s not difficult. While the movie plays, Jasper lets his hands run along my neck, over my collarbone, down my sides. It takes quite a lot of effort to pretend to focus on the film.

Halfway through, Edward just gets up and leaves, shooting us a withering look.

Neither Jasper nor I can help feeling smug.

🔥 + Twilight?

1) they are not the Worst Books Ever Written

2) Bella had a discernable personality, a likeable one at that, and her choices and motivations made sense if you like, actually paid attention to her thoughts when reading lol

3) Edward is canonically a ginger and while I ride for Robert Pattinson it was truly unforgivable of the movies to erase that

4) Jacob’s,,,,,not in love with a baby. There was like a whole chapter in Eclipse dedicated to explaining why imprinting isn’t That Simple. Yes, I do agree it was a completely dumb choice on Meyer’s part but...I just think calling it pedophilia is a stretch

5) if Carlisle has spent 1000 years learning and practicing medicine and was able to completely study and explain Renesmee’s and the Wolf Pack’s dna and shit,,,,why,,,,,hasn’t he changed the world of medicine yet? He 100% COULD come up with a cure for cancer and other shit like that. He can publish under aliases or pay off humans to take the credit for him....but he’s choosing not to? Carlisle, bud, I love you, but come on. You have the ability to revolutionize the world here

6) I deserved more than a couple throwaway sentences telling me Edward and Seth Clearwater had become a brotp….Meyer. expand you coward. that’s so chaotic.

7) Bella changing her mind about wanting kids after finding out she was pregnant wasn’t,,,,bad like that does actually happen sometimes I’m sorry

8) Angela should’ve been a bigger character...she was the only one of the human group that really, genuinely cared about Bella and they had such cute vibes to their scenes....Also I’m still obsessed with the fact Edward went out of his way to set her and Eric up...dramatic king of high school ships

9) why establish Rosalie is a mechanic and then refuse to show me her pimping up Bella’s motorcycle or have her and Jacob argue about car shit

10) I’m sorry but I truly don’t understand the Emmett cult....sure I liked him but he was literally the least developed character in the family....he was comedic relief....is this just because of Kellan Lutz like genuinely what’s the deal lmao

Twilight 2008

It’s not a bad movie, if I remember right it’s really faithful to the book and there was a lot of care that was put into it. (If Catherine Hardwicke had gotten her way with the choices she wanted to make and was able to keep directing I think the series would have been decent, not great but at least watchable)

New Moon 2009

The book was terrible and the movie is no different. This and the last one are why Michael Sheen makes me wildly uncomfortable and I don’t like watching things with him in it. This is overlooking all the incredibly problematic and not okay things that Meyer put in her books that also made it into the movies because those elements definitely detract even more. 

Eclipse 2010

This was actually my favorite book in the series, I stanned Victoria hard because she was really one of the first characters with curls like mine for me. Also there is so much to this part of the series??? like it starts getting complicated about who is doing what and frankly the whole love triangle thing was terrible. I think? this is where you get Rosalie’s backstory and honestly she deserves so much better and more recognition for the fact as a baby vampire she managed to 1 not eat humans and 2 get revenge in the most iconic way possible so masterpiece right there.

I’m going to be honest at this point I found much better vampire books and started hating twilight shortly after so I never saw this one or the last one until years later in highschool when my mom and I did an early birthday thing for me and we watched the last two movies while eating cake. So, I’ve only seen these once and I don’t remember much except I got through it by making fun of it, I kind of feel like they should have started everything with Bella as a vampire and everything else as flashbacks that would have kept everything in one movie.

the best part of this whole movie is when Bella punches tf out of Jacob and honestly he deserved a hell of a lot more than that. Oh also the giant fight at the end was *chefs kiss* the rest of the movie is terrible. the whole Seattle trip/thing with the book Alice left made no sense and was pointless. Just bad. Bad bad bad.

i'm curious so give me your honest opinion about the disney princesses!

here’s my honest opinion on the cast in general. just mine remember! other fans might feel differently: THE PRINCES

cameron as flynn - completely yes. he has a boyish charm that would work so well. people who say “actors should/can play anything” are completely wrong and will never work in the industry for that reason. actors have to fit the part to the extent and this is probs the most exciting casting for me. he’ll do so well. alex as aladdin - undecided...i don’t think he’s going to play him in the way we know aladdin. i think he’ll have a more serious spin on the character but i definitely dont HATE it.  oliver as prince charming - yes, yes, yes. charming isn’t exciting so they NEEDED someone who was going to give him some personality. i think this could really elevate oliver’s career too. we need more of him. harvey as eric - an actor we don’t know much about but again. YES. i think he’s the perfect fit and it’s great to see some new faces getting the chance to go big.  danny as prince phillip - yes! i like it and we know danny will be able to give us prince vibes. he’s very talented. what i like about these castings is there’s a perfect balance between big names to draw people in (like danny) and lots of up and coming talent too. ezra as naveen - i don’t hate it but it’s my least favourite prince casting...the energy people wasted trying to say zara was a predictable rapunzel should have been given to this. i think he’ll kill it but idk, it doesn’t excite me as much.  leo as kristofer - I DONT KNOW HOW TO FEEL. it’ll either be amazing or a trainwreck. i just cant visualise it. again, im not saying i hate it. i just need some time to sit with it. i think when we get trailers and sneak peaks, it’ll make more sense. it was just a big surprise.  luke as li shang - also known as the perfect casting. he’s the perfect li shang. 

THE SIDEKICKS 

natalie as the fairy godmother - YES but she really needs to embrace it because this could become an iconic role for her. i think it’s perfect, i just hope she gives it her all.  florence as tinkerbell - this is her first acting gig, so i haven’t got much to go off of...HOWEVER, im always very sceptical when hamiltons go into something new...because their family is so powerful in entertainment it always smells of nepotism. i love her for tinkerbell but now i hope she can actually act and has talent/wasnt just cast for who shes related to. matt as the genie - NOT A SINGLE OTHER ACTOR could do it. i’m so glad this is what he got and he wasn’t lumped with a prince or something. he has the range, we know he’s going to be reeling off those punch lines. yes.  duyi as mushu - another actor i havent seen MUCH of. i think it’s accurate though and i’m intrigued to see where he goes with it. 

THE VILLAINS 

i’m not going to get into an individual breakdown of the villains because i agree with it all. i love that every single one is an established and known actor. i love that every single one has proved themselves already. THEY are going to be the ones who reel the audience in because names like wesley higgins, gisele collins, disney hamilton etc. are so linked to st judes. i think this was such a smart move. 

THE PRINCESSES 

autumn as snow - hm...i don’t know much about autumn. she has the look, definitely, but i don’t know what she’s like in terms of acting. BUT i can get behind it because acting is her main career choice so at least we know she has talent/is serious and she’ll be elevated to a new level of relevance in her career.  natasha as aurora - YES YES YES i cannot stress how much i was hoping aurora wasn’t cast as someone very traditionally princess-y like mal or zara. aurora is easily the most boring and passive princess and she needed someone with a bit of edge, especially bc this is a modern franchise. a VERY underrated choice but the perfect one!  mallory as cinderella - love it. i think cinderella is more relevant/important than she gets credit for so i hope mallory takes it seriously and really does her justice. looks wise, it couldn’t be more perfect. this could be a great performance if the work is put in.  ruby as belle - i really love it. i didn’t at first because ruby is a singer and with franchises like this, you kind of want ALL of the cast to be very serious actors but she has had broadway experience and been in her fair share of projects so i’ve warmed to it and she just looks like belle, doesn’t she? i think she’ll do well.  maelyn as ariel - i was NOT expecting it. i don’t know who i thought was going to get this tbh. i feel the same as i do about autumn...i haven’t seen much of her and ariel is SUCH a big character, i’m worried she might not do her the justice she deserves.  rosalie as jasmine - YES YES YES. rosalie is the next big actress in st judes. she can do film just as well as she can do stage and this will totally prove it.  harper as pocahontas - i love it! she has the look 100%. i think the only thing people will moan about is age but honestly? i think it’ll be fine. harper could easily pull off a college student (because that’s who pocahontas is in this?) and it’ll be nice to see her in something big.  elodie as mulan - YES. I WAS HOPING FOR THIS. 10/10. cassidy as merida - see autumn/harper! i don’t have any complaints but hope she can do the role justice as we haven’t seen much of her.  kobi as tiana - kobi is the perfect tiana. we’ve seen her do tiana before, but not a modernised version? i’m really happy we get to have her again. mason did well to not just go for “unpredictable” people and actually consider actors who would be convincing LOOKS WISE as well as acting range wise.  zara as rapunzel - i will defend this casting till i die. i feel like everyone who said it was predictable lowkey wanted mal to be rapunzel and imo that would’ve been a weaker casting. when it comes to disney, you definitely have to LOOK like the character you’re portraying, zara looks the most like her AND her acting ability is insane. idk where all the arguments were coming from about actors ‘can play people they’re not necessarily like’ as well because she’s not exactly like rapunzel irl but people can already see she’d be amazing as her, so that kind of defeats what the people who dont like the casting are saying? long story short, a perfect casting and the right choice. i just hope she isnt disheartened and brings her A-game. mackenzie as elsa - YES YES elsa is supposed to be slightly older than most of the princesses and have a sophisticated air about her. mackenzie will give us the elsa we deserve. she looks enough like her to make this a recognisable disney franchise but also has the acting range to show different sides to elsa’s character that haven’t been portrayed in the original movies.  heidi as anna - THIS IS CUTE. i approve!  christelle as moana - the same as ruby, pretty much! i hope there’re musical elements too though because imagine if we get a “how far i’ll go” cover from christelle? yes pleaaase?

1. Character you find most relatable to you as a person? Bella, in the first book, but she loses me as the series goes on. I was that ‘old soul’ who didn’t feel like she related to other teenagers. Also made total sense that she was afraid of going to a house full of vampires because she was afraid they wouldn’t approve of her.  Same, girl. Same.  Also, and this one is a little weird, Carlisle. I don’t drink (for a lot of reasons, none of them moral/religious. It’s mostly mental health--I know it’s the right choice for me), and while obviously drinking human blood is way different than drinking alcohol, pre-1918 Carlisle being surrounded by a vampire culture and friends who are constantly questioning his choice not to drink human blood, and trying to get him to drink human blood, and don’t understand why he doesn’t drink human blood is #relatable.  Like, I get it my dude. 

2. Character that didn't have a POV in the books or certain unfinished manuscripts, but you wish did?

Pretty much everyone, tbh, but Charlie would be interesting because he is so in the dark about so much.  But I keep thinking about Billy Black’s POV too--he DOES know what is going on (mostly) but he’s still an outsider. He knows about the wolves, but isn’t a wolf. He’s human, like the reader, so he might be a relatable narrator? 

3. Character that's underrated and deserves more recognition?

Again, pretty much everyone?? I think the moms or mother-figures need more love. There’s a lot about fathers--Charlie, Billy, Carlisle, and so much is made about the Power of Mother!Bella’s Love for Renesmee. But Esme is sort of left in the shadows and like, let’s talk about SUE CLEARWATER and her roller-coaster of a journey--helping Emily after her accident, her husband dying, her kids turning into wolves, becoming a leader during what is obviously a very scary time, her kids fighting newborns to the death (!!!), finding a second chance at love. She went through as much as anyone in the story did, really. 

4. Character you thought was unnecessary for the story? Renesmee by a mile. 

5. Top 5 female characters?

Rosalie, Leah, Siobhan, Esme and Victoria/Maria (tie) although I’ve pretty much talked myself into Sue being in there somewhere now, haha. 

6. Top 5 male characters?

Carlisle, Emmett, Seth, Aro and, hmmmm I have a soft spot for Alistair. And movie!Charlie but I don’t remember being all that attached to book!Charlie tbh.

7. Character interaction that didn't happen but you wish it did?

Leah and Rosalie having a good old vent session about all the chaos the dumbasses they were surrounded by are creating in their lives.  Also BELLA AND ESME TALKING ABOUT HOW ESME MET CARLISLE WHEN SHE WAS A HUMAN TEENAGER. 

8. Character that deserves more development?

Most of them, tbh, but of the ‘main’ characters Esme and like, all of the wolves. Who even is Jared? I constantly forget he exists. 

9. Character who is your total opposite?

Probably Felix? Big and brawny and kills people. I am none of those things. 

10. Character you warmed up to after experiencing the Renaissance?

Edward, honestly. All of Bella’s gushing narration about him kind of made me roll my eyes at the perfectness of his perfection in the books, but I love the fandom version of him--which is pretty in line with Midnight Sun, actually--where he’s a lot more awkward and anxious and weird and totally, totally aware of it.

Prom

Jasper x Reader 

Warnings - None

Summary - Bella, and Edward going to prom stirs up some feelings about you missing the dances across your hundreds of years.

"I don't really want to do the whole prom thing," Bella explains as Alice and I sit in her hospital room with her. "I mean my leg is broken."

"It does make sense," I tell her, "but wouldn't you like to spend some time with Edward?"

"Yeah, and I have a dress that would look amazing on you!" Alice exclaims, "come on I know you want to go with Edward." Bella sighs in defeat knowing she won't be able to lie to Alice about this. She looks across us.

"Well, are you two at least going?" She asks us plainly. Alice and I exclaim a slightly sad look. "What?"

"We don't really go to proms," I tell her, "I mean with Jasper being a new vegetarian and a bunch of drunk teenagers he refuses to go to the dance. And I refuse to go without him. The others just have been to so many that they are kind of over them."

"Well, you should go," Bella says, "if I have to then so do you." I chuckle at her.

"I mean I'd love to go but Jasper-"

"He has a lot more control then he used to," Alice says to me, "plus it could be fun to go to."

"You'd never get him to go for it," I tell the pair, "so sorry as much as I'd love to I wouldn't want to go by myself." Alice nods lightly as Bella looks around awkwardly. "But you should still go. I mean I'm sure you'd love to enjoy your prom." 

"Right yeah um if Alice can get me a dress then sure," She says. With that Alice and I help her plan for her prom look helping her collect her ideas. Once its all set Edward takes mine and Alice's place at Bella's side sending us home.

"That blue dress is going to look really nice on her," I say to Alice. She seems to be lost in her thoughts. I sigh dropping the conversation. I change the radio station filling the quiet car. After a couple moments, she looks over and smiles at me. "Vision?"

"A good one," She says to me, "about Edward and Bella. They'll have a great prom. That's really good. They deserve it."

"Yeah they've had a hard time," I say to her, "after that little incident and the blood." I cringe slightly at the memory. I wanted to help the girl so bad as she bled on the floor of the ballet studio. I couldn't do anything except watch and keep Jasper away. It was hard to keep him away but even harder to not show my own desire to drain the blood of my friend. I shake the memory away. "She's alive that's what matters."

"Right," Alice says nodding. As I pull into the driveway of our home she perks up slightly. "I'm going to get a dress." She practically jumps from my car as I climb out. I chuckle following her inside the house. 

"Hey so Is Bella okay?" Emmet asks us as we walk into the living room. I notice he and Rosalie were curled up on the couch together as she reads. Rose rolls her eyes harshly.

"Yeah she's fine," Alice says as Jasper joins us in the room. He moves wrapping his arms around me cheerfully. 

"Edward is with her now," I inform them. Alice smiles excitedly at the group.

"He's taking her to prom!" She says cheerfully, "how cute is that?" I feel the tiniest bit of jealous at the fact Edward gets to go to prom with his significant other. I love Jasper more than anything else but the fact I don't get to do things like go to prom with him sucks.

"It's adorable," I say pushing away the jealous in hope to avoid my mate's power to know our emotions. I smile lightly at the group. "Alice and I helped her get everything together for her outfit."

"Prom is boring," Rosalie huffs, "Seriously it's the same thing every time."

"It is romantic though," Emmet says. I look away in an attempt to avoid meeting Alice's eyes. "They'll have fun. Besides we don't have to go so you'll enjoy that even more." Rose smiles at him as Jasper nuzzles into my neck. 

"Its Bella's first prom," I say to them, "so its a cute experience for her."

"From what I remember you haven't even been to one," Rose teases. I chuckle hiding the offense in the comment.

"Yeah well it's not my type of thing," I lie as I smile lightly, "I mean too many humans around and the main part is getting wasted on spiked punch that we can't even have." The group chuckles lightly at the comment. "Well I know we've passed these classes hundreds of times over but I don't want to flunk out of this school so I'm going to quickly finish this homework." 

"Nerd!" Emmet yells. I roll my eyes as I move away from Jasper.

"You coming?" I ask him. He nods. I slip my hand into his and lead him along the stairs to our room. As I sit on our bed and move through the papers he looks to me with a worried expression.

"Darlin, what's wrong?" He asks me, "you're upset. What happened?"

"Its nothing," I say to him, "useless emotions that's all."

"Emotions aren't useless," He says to me as he stands watching me carefully, "are you sure you don't want to talk about it?"

"I'm sure," I say to him, "it's dumb anyway. You gonna do this homework or not?" 

"Actually I think I'm going to rush downstairs my car was acting funny earlier," He says to me. I nod and move to start on my homework. It takes about a total of 40 minutes to finish the piles. I guess it helps since I've been learning the same 10 things since I joined the coven. After I finish the stack I hear a soft knocking at my door.

"Yeah?" I call. The knocking continues. I stand opening the door to see Alice standing at it. "What's up?"

"Jasper needs you downstairs," She tells me, "he wanted me to come to get you." I can't help but notice her wicked smile. "He's on the balcony."

"Right," I say to her. She takes my hand practically dragging me to the balcony. Before I can ask her anything she's gone and I'm on the balcony with Jasper three feet ahead of me staring out into the deep woods. "Hey Jas what's going on?" He looks back to me with a slightly nervous smile. I'm taken back at the show of the emotion from him. "Love you okay?"

"You wanna go to prom?" He asks me. I sigh.

"Alice," I growl under my breath, "listen its just a childish thing. We don't have to go I'd rather stay home and watch movies or we can read together. I'm fine-"

"You're lying," He says to me. I look down guiltily. "I know we haven't got to go because of how I am with humans-"

"You are doing so much better," I tell him, "you are getting better every single day."

"I know," He says to me, "And that's exactly why I want to go with you."

"You want to go?" I ask him. He nods.

"Dress up and spend the night dancing with my love," He says, "that sounds amazing to me. So if you want to go then let's go."

"Really?" I ask him excitedly. He nods. "That's amazing." I move pulling him into a tight hug. As I pull back I move connecting my lips to mine. He deepens the kiss as we move in synch. After a couple moments, I pull back. "Oh, now we need to get everything within three days."

"We've got this," He says pecking my forehead.

And for once we actually were. In the three days, we got our outfits and had everything planned. To make it a bit more traditional though I got ready in Alice's room.

"Here I've got you," Alice says moving to zip my dress up. I smile as I brush at the dress. I look back to her excitedly.

"He and I will be okay with this right?" I ask her. She nods. 

"Just go have fun," She says to me. I nod. With that, I move walking down the stairs to meet my mate. I notice him standing with Carlisle and Esme. As he sees me a wide smile covers his face.

"You look absolutely beautiful darlin," He says as I make my way to him. He pulls me in his arms pecking my forehead. 

"Thanks, Love," I say to him. We look to Carlisle and Esme with a smile. 

"You two are adorable," Esme says smiling at us. Alice runs down snapping pictures of the two of us squealing about how cute we are and such. I smile at them.

"You guys have fun tonight," Alice says to us with a wink. I roll my eyes as Jasper chuckles loudly. 

"Don't wait up guys," I say to them. We exchange our goodbyes and then Jasper and I move to his car. We climb in and he looks over to me with a wide smile.

"You do look amazing," He says to me.

"Thanks," I say to him, "and you look so handsome. We are a pretty hot couple." He chuckles as he starts the car. As we drive I sing along cheerfully to our music selection. Once we finally reach the dance we meet up with Bella and Edward. 

"So you got him to come?" She asks me. I nod smiling over at my mate.

"Yeah," I say cheerfully, "my first prom. Well, hows my emo adopted brother over here doing?" He scoffs at the comment. Jasper laughs at the comment as I smirk. Even Bella seems to find a kick out of it. "Ed come on you know it was a joke you are only kinda emo." 

"Don't you want to get inside?" Edward offers.

"Not when I can be out here bothering you," I say chuckling.

"Darlin we should let them have their moment," Jas says to me. I nod. He leads us into the dance. We start dancing to the upbeat pop music. I see a face of pain cover Jasper's face. Today has been a very stressful day, so guess wtf time it is? Drunk Breaking Dawn Pt. 1. Here is what I soberly remember of the movie (I have not watched it since BD2 came out):

A brief intro statement, I was 100% sober and just beginning to drink at the beginning of the Eclipse post and progressively got more drunk. For BD1, I’m throwing back before I even start watching this shit show.
