Ngl, I truly applaud Lorelai for disliking Logan for as long as she had (until she felt like had to accept him and even then, I personally wouldn't accept him) because if I'm being honest, I would never be okay with someone I really care about dating someone who had reduced them to tears— drunk while on the bathroom floor, sobbing— asking me why said someone doesn't love them

give me a fic where jess stays in stars hollow after the car accident and rory breaks up with dean because he’s way too aggressive and tries to kill jess and she keeps tutoring jess and then she asks him to take her to sookie’s wedding and they kiss and everything is fixed and jess graduates and they move to new haven together because jess has to get out of that cracked town and works at a bookstore and then instead of rory and paris going on spring break, they do a kerouac-y road trip with lane and dave and jess gets to write his novel and fights to get it published and by season 6/7 he’s published and going on a book tour while rory works on the obama campaign and once dave graduates, the band gets back together and puts out their debut album together and luke and lorelai get married and everything works out <3

Everyone always talks about the failed Jess in California spin-off but you know what spin-off I want to see? The adventures of Truncheon. I want to see Jess work at a publishing press being happy as he writes, gets to talk about and be surrounded by books, have friends, and not get his heart broken!!

The Gilmore Girls biggest fault is ruining already established great characters. Very long ramble and its just my opinion. Please read and tell me your thoughts but be nice!

Dean

Dean was a great character in the beginning! He was a dreamy, slightly mysterious, new kid from Chicago who worked on cars. His initial attraction to Rory is because of how intently she reads, Lane says he is thrilled when he hears Rory has been accepted to the prestigious private school Chilton. Then the writers dumb him down, Rory’s love of books bores him, he doesn’t care about her pursuit of an Ivy League education, he cheats on his wife with Rory.

Jess

Now I do really like Jess but his character was basically just an edgier version of Deans original character. Dreamy new boy from New York, mysterious, and he also notices how much Rory likes to read, but he likes reading too. However, to set them apart Jess has an attitude and is mischievous. Jess makes it known he has a thing for Rory pretty much since he’s introduced (Like Dean). It makes Jess look like a jerk. Since he’s literally encouraging Rory to leave her boyfriend for him. Then they do get into a relationship! Jess’s attitude just grows and grows. Some of his actions towards Rory are inexcusable. Then ✨poof✨ he just disappears. Jess was a complex character with a bad past, the show really could have leaned into that. We could have seen more character growth. But nope! (Also side note I think Jess and Paris would have been a great couple)

Marty

Marty was a funny new guy Rory meets at college. We first see him when He and Rory show up extra early to their first class (showing one of their similarities). Then, his first introduction is Rory finding him butt naked in front of her dorm. (My personal favorite introduction). He also has a slightly similar financial situation as Rory. While yes Rory’s grandparents have money Rory doesn’t. What money she gets from Emily and Richard comes with strings. Marty is always working odd jobs to help put him through school. He isn’t a trust fund kid and while I think Rory has a trust fund. She does know what its like not to have money. Lets not forget Lorelai and Rory lived in a shed! (But yeah Rory is pretty spoiled by the end) They have similar sense of humors and they like the same movies! He was really sweet (also cute) and he was a perfect new friend for Rory. But Noooo, he just had to have feelings for her. Then, he disappears for like 3? seasons and pops up like 2 more times.

Paris

Paris was a highly competitive, extremely smart, and witty student. (Also slightly a bitch but love her though). Paris and Rory pushed each other to do better in their classes. We find out though Paris is more than just a strong student. She has home life issues and struggles with self esteem. She also has had a long time crush on cute classmate Tristian. There is some focus on Paris’s issues with self-esteem especially when she meets Jamie and she mentions her bad home life. But, her home life is treated more or less as an ongoing joke. I think Paris’s issues should have been taken more seriously. Especially when she goes to Yale after her breakdown when she isn’t accepted into Harvard. But, when Paris goes to Yale she’s basically just a joke. Her issues are solved by her obsession with arts and crafts? She still has anger issues and takes control over things. Like the newspaper and then CHEATS on her great boyfriend Jamie. I don’t have anything really against Doyle. Im just not a fan of how they did Paris’s character.

Lane

Its pretty universally agreed that Lane was done wrong. Lane was a great kid! The show really could have done so much more with Lane’s religious trauma. Also, with the fact Lane gets kicked out. Not to mention the Dave situation. AMAZING boyfriend Dave. I get it the actor left to star in The OC but Zach? Why not add a new member to the band? Create a nice new character, maybe a member of a different band thats playing at the same placed they are. But Nope! She marries Zach, has an awful experience with sex, then gets pregnant with twins. Zach slept around plenty before Lane, you’d think he would be better with birth control. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rory with Jess or Logan (or really any other guy, but JESS AND LOGAN ESPECIALLY) is horrendous—LIKE, WHAT ARE Y'ALL WATCHING???

Jess is genuinely a jerk all the time and the fact that he just stole stuff just to do it really made me sick af. And I guess I get the whole "I hate everyone but you" dynamic, but there is but so much someone can tolerate from that kind of thing. Also, all Jess and Rory did in their relationship was make out and argue— and they never went out on a date, but suddenly Jess admits that he loves her and THEN HE LEAVES?! And didn't he almost assault Rory at a party?! They were making out on the bed and Rory tells him to stop at some point, but he keeps going for a bit????

And Logan spoke to Rory like he didn't necessarily respect her— whenever she said she didn't want to do something, he'd convince her by being super pushy and annoying. Then when they were trying to establish their relationship, Logan couldn't make up his mind on whether or not they were casual. At first he was like "Are you sure you want this to be casual?" and Rory established that she was sure, then when they're casual, Logan's like "I want you to be with me >:(" and then when Rory's like "I can't do this casual thing" and he's suddenly like "Are you sure???" even though he was just crying about Rory being with someone else! AND THEN at some point, he breaks up with her without even telling her until his sister called and brought it up and Rory tries to move on from him only for him to beg for her to get back with him— by showing up at her apartment, excessively sending flowers and all kinds of gifts, and even showing up at Lorelai's INN (and ngl, Lorelai really ate him up when he was like "I'm just trying to show her that I love her" and she was like "Okay, but maybe she's trying to show you she's no longer interested" 😭)— even though HE'S THE ONE who broke up with her AND THEN SLEPT WITH ALL OF HIS SISTER'S FRIENDS WITHIN SUCH A SHORT SPAN OF TIME

AND I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT TRISTAN OMG— I HATE HIM AND RORY TOGETHER AS WELL 😭 NOT ROMANTIC AT ALLLLL! WHY DO PEOPLE GENUINELY SHIP THEM?!

It's like they constantly try to do some enemies-to-lovers thing, but they fail EVERY SINGLE TIME by having the guy constantly harass Rory and then she suddenly falls for them??? And it's weird because it's like Rory has the best enemies-to-lovers chemistry with Paris since they've known each other for a while, so you can see developments between them— for example; you can clearly see that Paris and Rory hated each other at first, with Paris constantly being a jerk to Rory for no reason (ya'know, being a bully), but later on, you can see that Rory is one of the only people Paris will not only genuinely smile at, but she'd willingly listen to her. And then you can clearly see that Paris is trying to be a better person because of Rory (even if Paris is still a bit extreme)— which is something Jess and Tristan NEVER did

Y'all opinions about these characters make me sad, and I don't mean upset— I mean: I'll literally start crying, because so many people fawn over these boys when they're not even that good

Jess is the best boyfriend for Rory because he just fit in so well in her life.

First off, the two have so much in common. From books and music to both having absent fathers, the two fit so well. Yet (as Rory said) they’re not too similar that it’s boring—Rory gets Jess to branch out a bit more whereas he encourages her to pursue her dreams.

Secondly, the Stars Hollow connection. Dean was too involved in Stars Hollow that he would keep her back, and Logan was so disconnected that he would pull her away. Jess is the perfect balance—someone connected to Stars Hollow through family (mainly Luke) yet isn’t afraid to go other places and pursue other options.

Third, he got along with Rory’s friends. Him and Paris would’ve definitely hit it off if they had more screen time, considering the conversation they had together about authors. Him and Lane weren’t super close, but they had the music connection that definitely could’ve began a friendship. They also have a connection through Luke. Also he and Lorelai have such similar personalities the two could definitely get along if they weren’t both so stubborn.

Anyways Jess fits so well in Rory’s life and Rory in his and that is why they’re the superior couple. Definition of right person wrong time.

L.M. Montgomery works & Gilmore Girls parallels

Once I made an Anne of Green Gables related post (I don't remember which one it was) and it got reblogged by someone with a Gilmore Girls url. It was then that it hit me, AOGG, or generally L.M. Montgomery (will shorten it to LMM from now on) works would be enjoyed by people who also like Gilmore Girls. Sure, one is contemporary, the other historical, but there are some parallels. When I started thinking about it, I couldn't stop, so here I give you my list of LMM/GG parallels (note when I say LMM I mostly mean Anne, as it's the series I know the details of best):

Stars Hollow is LMM-typical place name and that you may tie to

tight-knit community settings

ambitious young heroines

the Rory/Paris rivalry is a lot like the Anne/Gilbert rivalry

Rory and Lane are bosom buddies just like Anne and Diana

slow burn romance: Anne x Gilbert and Lorelai x Luke

typical way of talking: GG has that fast dialogue, Anne talks a lot

accidents: Rory got into a car accident with Jess, Anne almost drowned in the lake (though in Anne's case her love interest was the one to save her, while Rory's love interest kinda got her into that)

men work around the house for women they're infatuated with: Luke fixes things for Lorelai. Now, I'm not sure if Gilbert does any such work for Anne, but in Anne of Avonlea, when Anne is dreaming up her house of dreams for the first time (when she still imagines her beloved to be a tall dark emo king), Gilbert somehow manages to get into her fantasy, helping her arrange pictures and lay out gardens. In Avonlea people likely helped each other with jobs/tasks, so it might not mean anything, still it's interesting that Anne saw him doing that, it was more subconscious than anything

difficult parents/grandparents/caregivers: oh boy. I insist that many of the caregivers in LMM books are straight up abusive (Emily's aunts Elizabeth and Ruth, but also in the case of some of the minor or side characters, such as Little Elizabeth in Anne of Windy Poplars, where it's made more clear), but okay, if you don't want to go that far, at least you have to admit that often they were very difficult. So are Emily and Richard Gilmore. And Lane's mum is mega strict. With the Gilmores too, they have this pride and if LMM knew anything, it was family clans and traditions.
