RYANN COULD EASILY SAY THAT bartending made it to her top five in her ranking of jobs she worked. it was f u n , it kept her busy, and the people she worked with new how to have fun and never push for information. it truly was the [most] freeing. which might be sad if you think about it, but que sera sera. today however, was a slow night. she assumed it was due to the wedding that it seemed almost everyone was attending, but she wouldn't complain. she was still getting paid. leaning with her back against the bar, ryann tilted her head toward isla and smiled. " i feel like i should be grateful it's a slow night, but i'm also kind of just bored. " ryann states with a small laugh. she wouldn't say she's c l o s e with her coworkers, but she has learned to relax around them.

HEARING CASSANDRA REPEAT HER WORDS MADE HER CRINGE. not because the other woman needed clarification, but because hearing it out loud sounded crazy. what kind of people was she raised by?! the moment cassandra's hand made contact with her, she felt a cold fave of shock run through her. it was like she froze for a split second. only because the comforting feeling, coming from HER, was so foreign at this point she almost forgot what it felt like. ONCE AGAIN, it was her own fault, but still. despite the split second, her e n t i r e body relaxed once more and she actually grabbed cassie's hand with her own. not moving it, just holding it. she didn't know how long she'd be able to have this, but she needed it. her words only helped calm ryann's racing heart. she wanted to admit to everything, and she almost did but the moment she opened her mouth to speak, she thought about what she had to do to get her brother back. to keep him safe. how she hadn't even meant to do it... her powers had almost had a mind of their own. all she remembered was NEEDING to keep luca safe. he was her's to protect. and while she knew she would do it again if it meant keeping him safe, she felt like a monster now. and THAT was something she didn't know how to admit. to anyone. "together." she repeated after a small pause. looking up again, to meet her graze, ryann saw something in cassandra's eye that she couldn't fully explain. at least not in that moment. but she KNEW, she just knew she could explain it all with judgement. and while she wasn't ready to admit what she did, she could explain the rest. "they never wanted either of us." she spoke softly, though the pain and anger could easily be heard in her voice. "they kept us for the power. they– someone wants to– they offered us up for someone to take our powers. that's why they tried to take luca." she explained finally.

Cassie felt her breath hitch as she listened to Ryann’s words, the weight of what her ex was sharing sinking in. She could see the pain etched into Ryann’s expression, the tension in her body. It made Cassie’s heart ache for her, the pieces of the puzzle starting to come together, yet leaving so many gaps. “They sent someone after Luca?” Cassie repeated softly, her brows knitting together in concern. She leaned in just slightly, her voice low and filled with quiet compassion. “Ryann, that’s… that’s awful. I had no idea…” She let her gaze settle on Ryann’s hand, tracing the scars Cassie had once been so curious about, a fresh wave of understanding washing over her. Suddenly, things made so much more sense; the leaving, the distance, the walls Ryann had built. Cassie’s hand twitched, hesitating, before reaching out and gently placing her hand on the other's thigh. “You don’t have to explain everything all at once,” she said softly, offering Ryann a gentle smile. “I can’t even imagine what you and Luca went through, but I’m here now. And whatever happened, you’re safe. He’s safe. We’re safe.” Cassie paused for a beat, her voice growing even softer. “I know it’s hard, but you don’t have to carry this alone anymore.” She let the words hang in the air, not wanting to push too much but hoping Ryann knew she had a lifeline, someone who cared enough to listen without judgment. Cassie smiled again, this time a little wider, as she glanced at the blanket beneath them. “Maybe, when you’re ready, you can tell me more? But if not tonight, that’s okay. Let’s just… enjoy being here. Together.”

THE GIRL COULDN'T HELP BUT LAUGH WHEN HE SHOVES HER. "right, right! totally. just a little." she teased, making eye contact with her brother before they both broke out in laughter, teasing their friend. she was grateful they could have moments like this. "and stuff..." she smirked, giving the hybrid a knowing smirk. ryann knew he wouldn't say more in front of luca, and part of her wanted to send him to his room just so she can chat with everett, but she also knew that if she did that, he'd also ask his own questions about cassandra and she didn't know how to answer those just yet. clearing her throat, her smile softened a little. "but i am glad she's able to help."

"Shut up," Everett replied, somewhat bashful as he shoves her playfully, "I've been optimistic before. I'm just a little rusty," he retorted. He rolled his eyes at her insinuation, "You know, she helps me... clear my head and stuff," he said. The kissing came after but he didn't mention that around the Ryann's brother.

IT WAS TRUE, SHE DIDN'T NEED TO DENY THAT. it was GREAT that luca was managing to stay positive. that despite everything they've been through, despite e v e r y t h i n g happening in town, he was managing to still be a kid. it was all she wanted for him. she wanted him to have what she never could. she didn't know how she was doing it, but she was doing right by him. "they definitely do." she laughed a little. she was still too stressed for it to last on her, but it did help. having moments, even if only brief ones.

nodding in understanding, ryann knew that feeling all to well. but she stayed silent as kris seemed to stay in her head for a moment. even if that moment didn't last long. "i'm not sure how well i can do peaceful... or zen." she half joked. "but i'm willing to give it a go." she smiled excitedly.

Kris tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear, smiling softly as she listened to Ryann’s response. "Staying positive is good," she said, her hands busy chopping the last of the vegetables. "For both him and you. I mean, Luca’s good vibes have to rub off on you a little, right?" She knew it wasn’t always that easy, but she wanted to keep the conversation light. As she scooped up the chopped veggies and tossed them into the bowl, Kris moved to the stove to take the noodles off.

"I don’t know..." her voice trailed off, her mind wandering for a moment. "I got so used to living in chaos that when things finally started feeling good, it actually scared me for a bit." She was caught in her thoughts, draining the noodles, when Ryann’s confession snapped her back to the moment: she’d never been to a spa. Kris’s face lit up with excitement. "Oh, you’ll love it!" she exclaimed, setting the pot down. "It’s super peaceful, very zen. I used to go all the time, but it’s been years. Now that I know you’ve never been, we have to go. My treat!"
