“Tell me you didn’t buy that.”

Tony doesn’t look over at Pepper as he says, “No, I just walked out of the gallery last night with a twelve-foot painting in my pants. Sure, people questioned it, but I just told them it was my-”

“Stop,” Pepper cuts him off, a pained look on her face as she steps up beside him in front of the massive painting. ”Why did you buy this?“ She asks, side-eyeing him, ” You don’t even like abstract art.“

”I might like it,“ Tony says defensively, shooting her a quick glare before his eyes are drawn back to the painting. ”I just… I like the colors,“ he finally says helplessly, “for some reason I feel like I could stare at it all day…”

His voice trails off as he once again lets himself get lost in the swirling and shifting blues that make up the entire painting. The longer he stares the more different shades he finds, his gaze tracing every brushstroke and the way they transfer from one shade of blue to the next. It’s almost familiar, but he can’t quite put his finger on why…

”Really,“ Pepper says, so flatly that Tony almost looks over at her.

He can feel the pointed stare that she’s fixing on the side of his head, though, and finally he sighs out, “What?”

“You really don’t see it?” She asks skeptically, “Really?”

It takes a second for Tony to tear his eyes away from the beautiful blues so he can finally look over at her as he asks, “See what?”

Pepper raises a single eyebrow at him, like the answer should be so obvious.

“What,” he asks defensively, and then makes an impatient sound when she continues to stare at him. "Come on, just tell me, is it a magic-eye type thing? Is there a subliminal dick, what?"

Her eyes narrow, like she’s trying to figure out if he’s joking, and then she shakes her head as she sighs, “Never mind, I’m not touching this. You don’t pay me enough, and you couldn’t pay me enough to deal with this.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” Tony calls after her as she stomps out of the penthouse, “You can’t just say that and then leave! Pepper!”

She does leave though, still shaking her head and muttering to herself. As soon as the elevator doors close behind her Tony’s eyes are drawn back to the painting.

“What does she know,” he grumbles, crossing his arms over his chest.

He tips his head from side to side, squints one eye closed, but he can’t spot whatever the hell made her react like that. It’s just an average too-big abstract painting, the kind Tony usually would have walked right by in his quest for more hors d'oeuvres, but the colors had pulled him up short.

Something about all the mixing and swirling blues still has his heart beating a little faster in his chest, even now. It feels… safe, but also exciting, almost hypnotic somehow, and Tony hadn’t been joking about his desire to stare at it all day.

JARVIS has to snap him out of his daze when it’s time for team training, and Tony hurries to the gym before he can get another lecture from the super captain.

Over the next week, Tony spends more time than he’ll admit just standing in front of the painting, staring at all the shades of blue. He’s almost late for two meetings, actually late for a third, and when Thursday rolls around Clint has to come find him for team movie night.

“Is this about your new painting?” Clint is already demanding loudly as he steps off the elevator, and Tony jumps guiltily.

“No,” he says quickly, even though he’s definitely just staring at the painting where it's still leaning against the fireplace.

“Wow, Bruce said you were being so weird about it,” Clint says with a laugh, ��and he likes art, but this is just-”

His voice cuts off in a strangled sound as he steps around into view of the painting, and Tony looks over at him in concern. Clint blinks at the canvas, glances up at Tony, back to the painting, and then he starts laughing. Hard.

"Wh- What?" Tony demands in an angry sputter, “Why are you- Steve did the same thing, what the hell is so funny?!”

Clint wheezes out a couple of attempts at words around more laughter and then shakes his head, clutching his stomach as he doubles over.

"Just tell me," Tony pleads, trying to keep a whine out of his voice as he follows Clint back towards the elevator, “otherwise I’m going to think this is all a conspiracy and that nothing is actually funny about my new painting.”

“And you don’t even see it!” Clint crows, wiping actual tears from his eyes.

"See what?!"

“No, I’m not telling you,” Clint says with a happy sigh, slumping against the elevator panel and hitting a bunch of buttons with his shoulder, “this is too good, you are so dumb sometimes.”

Tony considers kicking him. He also considers just not dealing with this, skipping movie night and heading back upstairs to stare at his painting, but he knows he’ll never live that down.

“Conspiracy,” Tony grumbles, facing forward and glaring at nothing as the doors open on the gym floor for no reason.

He decides to do research.

Sam also finds the painting inexplicably hilarious, and Rhodey refuses to comment when Tony sends him a picture. He asks Natasha what she thinks and she stares at the canvas for several long minutes before fixing Tony with a look that’s somehow equal parts judging and pitying.

None of them will actually tell him what’s so funny though, and Tony jumps between being annoyed and extremely concerned.

He’s leaning more towards concerned at the moment, as he stands in front of the painting, hands on his hips.

It would probably be less weird if he would hang the thing somewhere, he can admit, but he can’t decide. And he likes the fact that with the painting just leaning against the fireplace, he can stand directly in front of it and let it take up his entire field of view. Nothing but gorgeous, shifting blues.

When the elevator doors open Tony looks over just long enough to see that it’s Bucky walking into the penthouse. He doesn’t think that he’s missing any team activities, or his and Bucky’s bi-weekly sci-fi night, but he has been pretty distracted lately.

“Hey Doll,” Bucky says in greeting, and for once Tony is too busy to worry about what the petname does to his chest, “Steve said you need to talk to me?”

“Do I?” Tony asks distractedly.

“You tell me,” Bucky says with a huff of laughter, coming to a stop beside the painting and glancing over at it. “Nice painting,” he adds easily, without a hint of laughter or teasing.

Tony jerks his gaze over to meet Bucky’s with a start, surprised to find someone else who doesn’t see whatever is so funny, and- oh-

Oh.

The blue of Bucky’s eyes somehow exactly matches every shade in the painting, familiar and almost hypnotic, and no wonder Tony has been so caught up in the urge to stare at it for hours. He really is so stupid sometimes.

"I’m a moron," Tony groans, dropping his face into his hands. How could he develop a crush and then project it onto a painting without even noticing, no wonder everyone has been laughing at him-

“What?”

“What?” Tony replies automatically even as his head jerks up and how had he half-forgotten that Bucky is here. His gorgeous eyes are fixed on Tony, the shades of blue shifting as his expression wavers between confusion and amusement. Tony’s heart starts beating double time in his chest, and somehow all he can think to do is blurt out, “Uh, hi.”

“Hi,” Bucky says back, his voice fond as a warm smile curls his lips.

Hello! First off, I wanna say that I absolutely ADORE the concept you have come up with here! Manic taking on the identity of Scourge has me going absolutely insane and I love it SO MUCH!!! Also, the designs you've shown so far are- Ah! Chef's kiss. Beautiful! I especially love the little accents of cyan on Sonic. They look very very nice!

Alright, now for an actual question. I'm interested if you've figured out yet what Sonia's doing during all this and how she reacts to Manic going rogue. I know in Sonic Underground, all three of the triplets are very close, so this has got to be effecting both Sonic and Sonia pretty hard.

Bwgagwuah Thank you!!! I try my best to come up with interesting lil bits of lore for characters, and really enjoy playing around with the designs of the cast! Sonic’s lil streaks of cyan are supposed to be caused by bits of chaos energy clinging to him and is what causes him to move as fast as he does!

Okay now to actually answer the question instead of infodumping, I’m kind of figuring out if I want to like,,,keep Sonia as a separate character or just kinda merge her with Amy a bit! (As I’ve said, the details on this AU are kinda blurry as I just think of either scenes or character head canons/designs) and work from there)

I mean like, as much as I love sonic’s world(s) and hate the notion that some of his friends are just kinda useless (I will defend Big with my last breath), in terms of AUs and Storytelling I don’t want to deal with his giant cast as much as I love ‘em. And like…they’re both pink (okay Sonia is kind of? Purple? But my point still stands) hedgehogs, and from what I remember from Underground (honest confession the most I remember from the show is the theme and I think the first few episodes?) Sonia was just kinda characterized as like the straight man and also like… ‘The Girl One’

But as I said I’m unsure if this will fall through.

But yes, as you’ve mentioned I assume Sonia?Amy? Would be pretty devastated at this revelation as one would imagine and probably be the one pushing the hardest to get this man to go good.

The vibes are honestly nearly unmatched! If you're still itching for that lovecraftian stranded-in-a-strange-sea feeling afterwards 'Dredge' has a slightly more grounded setting but it honestly feels like it was written by the same people - would recommend!

Aha you are definitely just thrown right into it, most of the islands and the unterzee are their own thing made for sunless sea but the whole backstory of london, the neaths colours, salt/stone/storm/the white and ect are hugely expanded upon in the other games. I think the fifthcity wiki does a pretty good job of collecting it all though, if you ever want more to build with!

Oh about the chapel, it's a slice of a questline known as 'Seeking' (or the unfortunate acronym SMEN) in fallen london. Would only recommend looking it up after finishing the lessons at the chapel, but if you want some real messed up angst - that's the path everyone who feels a bit peckish follows. There's no real reason for it to be a menace quality in sseas (other than being a badge of shame) without knowing about it, but man it sure is one. IIRC Frostfounds not exactly related but its a bit of a mini SMEN, its also quite endgame - the warnings are definitely there for a reason aha

Anyway, i'm definitely looking forwards to anything you post! Out of curiosity what do you think of the dawn machine and the bright-eyed/new sequence? As its kinda a rouge man-made god, thought that could have some fun connections to be made there with tony

I’ve pulled up fifthcity and wowie, thank you this is going to be a fantastic reference! Especially with double checking names of places to make sure I don’t make a fool of myself haha. I’ve been torn between looking up answers to my infinite questions, and waiting to find things out as I play. Mostly I’m landing somewhere in the middle and just trying not to spoil myself TOO HARD 😂

Funny you should mention the dawn machine, I just recently found it and wasted A LOT of fuel marveling at it haha. You’re definitely reading my mind re: Tony being connected somehow, I’m excited to mull over how that will work.

There's a solid argument for Singed, since Arcane is meant to be The Canon now and Singed...... just is not That Guy

Besides him though, Zilean and Corki have probably the ugliest and least fitting models and animation in the game

But I really wouldn't be who I am if I didn't also throw in one of the worst examples of total mismatch between champion design and story in the entire game

And it's not just that her story insists that she's a hard-bitten, traumatised sole survivor who has struggled for her life against extradimensional horrors her whole life, bonded to an alien ravenous symbiote and hated by the people she is trying to save as a "monster," while her character design insists that she's a physically flawless swimsuit model in a body condom.

It's also that 99.9% of her skins actively ignore the fact that she's supposed to be a symbiote character - that her alien suit is supposed to be core to her character, the split between the human and the monstrous. But nah, her skins just put her in various outfits and then she has pods floating behind her because [indistinct mumbling.]

I don't think there's a champion in League of Legends where it is more profoundly clear that Riot does not give a single solitary shit about the concept of the character, they ONLY care that she's a hot woman who can be put in hot woman outfits.

You met Android 17 when your friend Android 18 introduced you to him, since you needed a babysitter to take care of your child, considering you're a single mom and you had no other choice except to let Android 17 babysit your child. So, whenever you return home your child always got along with him and your child somehow bonded with him. Your child also always look forward to spending time with Android 17, "the baby sitter" for some reason and even asked both Android 17 and you about having Android 17, as your child's "new dad", which you told your child that relationships, love, new marriages, and any being your child's new father is not something you're planning to have anytime soon.

One day Android 17 said, "Hey, sis! Can I talk you for a minute? It's important... I'm interested in your friend... The problem is she might be uptight and frightened, as if I couldn't be trusted or something... Is it me that she has something against or is there more to it?", as he's trying to get Android 18's perspective about you. She replied, "It's not exactly a you problem, if I'm being honest... You see, brother... (Female Reader Name) had some abandonment issues, for good reasons her child didn't care for the biological dad who is now her ex husband, and she had a horrible marriage with him due to (up to the reader's imagination on her marriage went horrible, which (is/are) the reason(s) why the reader and the ex husband are divorced), so if you want to atleast be in a relationship with (Female Reader Name) you are going to have to put in tons of work to be with her and to keep her. I might be able to help you.". Android 17 was surprised and glad Android 18 is willing to do her best to try to help him win you over.

As time went by despite of her efforts to help you put the extra work into trying to atleast win you over, you're still very cynical about love, marriage, having anyone be a step-parent (especially a stepdad) for your child (no matter how much your child begged your mom), and even a relationship. If it wasn't for Android 18 convincing Android 17 to keep trying to win you over, giving him advice, and encouraging him, he would have gave up before then, however she madesure to keep helping him and for him to never give up on trying win you over, no matter how long it takes, since his efforts might eventually pay off. One day Android 17 went shopping with you and your child, as part of his quality time with you and your child, as he heard a voice say, "Aaaaawwwww how sweet... Too bad you'll never get a girlfriend, mr. baby sitter!", before he looked to see it was Vegeta laughing at Android 17's expense. "Let's go Vegeta... Leave him alone! You don't know why he's there! I'm warning you that it won't end very well for you, if you make him mad, especially when you're laughing at his expense!", Goku tried warning Vegeta not to mock Android 17. "Shut up Kakarot! Can't you see it amuses me to poke fun at someone's expense! He's such a hopeless (up to reader's imagination what name Vegeta calls Android 17), because he will never get a girlfriend due to the fact on how soft he has gotten!", Vegeta replied to Goku, as he refuses to listen to Goku for the sake of mocking Android 17.

As Vegeta continues to laugh at him, Android 17 decided he already had enough with being poked fun at like he's a joke to anyone, especially a joke to Vegeta, as he then decided to walk up to Vegeta, then stomped on Vegeta's left foot hard as possible, before kicking Vegeta in the shins (the right side), as Android 17 proceeded to shout, "Don't you dare mess with me, as if I was some joke to you! And if you mess with this woman I'm hanging out with and her child, it would have been worse for you!". Android 17 looked at you, because he thought you were trying to hide being upset, then when he heard a snicker come out, he began to realize that you were actually amused and trying to not laugh, as your child then happily said, "Let's go, my new dad! I knew there's a reason why I think of you, as awesome and I was right, about you!". Android 17 smiled at your child as he then decided to walk back to you and your child to continue his shopping with both you and your child.

As Android 17, you, and your child walked away from Vegeta to get to an area where Android 17, you, and your child need to be, a humiliated, Vegeta then pleaded, "Kakarot! Please help me up! This is embarrassing for this to happen to me!". Goku then replied, "I will help you get up, but you brought this on yourself! I told you not to mock the guy!". Meanwhile Android 17 and your child couldn't help, but laugh about Vegeta complaining about the karma he got from him, due to Vegeta laughing at Android 17's expense, despite if Goku warning Vegeta not to continue aggravating Android like that. You then asked, "Hey Android 17... Can we have a talk?". Android 17 shook his head "yes", as then prepare to be told not to hit anyone again.

Instead of what he's prepared for, you told him, "You still need to put extra work, before I do consider being in a relationship with you, but what you did to Vegeta, I respect that... And it's a big start... I know my husband wouldn't have done what you did and he would have proven to me that he's never willing to fight for me nor my child... You on the other hand have proven to me that you have guts to fight for my child and I... Now, I can see why my child wanted to you to be the "new dad"... Despite of you still needing to put a little extra work into our relationship and taking care of my child and I, I think I may have been, too hard on you, because of my horrible marriage with my now, ex husband... Put in a little more extra work, then I will gladly consider being in a relationship with you...", before you winked at Android 17, which made him blush. Your child then asked, "Does this mean he will eventually become my "new dad", after all, one day, mom?". You then happily answered, "If he puts a little more extra work and with a little more time, I definitely will consider...". Your child started to shouting out of excitement for what you said and Android 17 started to smile, as he continued to blush.

As time went by and Android 17 putting a little more extra work for you and your child, you have finally decided to officially be in a relationship with Android 17. He then began to realize that Android 18 was right all along that his efforts and time did pay off. A couple years later, your friend Android 18 became your sister in law, because you have finally decided to marry Android 17, as not only he became your husband, not only he became your child's stepdad, Android 17 has also became part of a happy family. You, your child, and your new husband Android 17.

Omg its always so wild to see someone get into the sunless games 👀

Have you come across the whole thing with the chapel or frostfound? And are you planning to play sunless skies or even fallen london? Would highly recommend it, the atmosphere and writing in those games are absolute peak (Although fallen london might be a bit much aha, it'll provide background on a whole heap of things in seas tho)

Sorry about the questions aha, I love crossovers with this universe but it can be hard to split out what lore is what since all the games are so interconnected

THANK YOU FOR THE QUESTIONS I've only played Sunless Sea so far, still working on it, but I have found the chapel and frostfound! the vibes of this entire game are just. top notch. I haven't played any of the others yet, I actually didn't realize it was part of a series when I started, I thought I was just being thrown right in haha.

There is SO MUCH lore and its all so interesting, I'm sure I'll get some of it wrong in my crossover attempts but hey I'm just here to have fun lol

Nice to see you enjoying arcane s2! Do you think there were any moments so far where Riot (the larger company) stepped into/requested things from the show's production? I would imagine after the hit s1 was, they wanted be more involved in the show creation

I worry that there was, but I'm not sure there actually was.

To the best of my knowledge, season 2 was already so deep in production by the time season 1 actually launched, it would have been hard for Riot to meddle with it too much in response to season 1's astonishing popularity.

I worry that things like Janna's cameos, the inclusion of the Black Rose, the Demacia play at the theater and other such Wider Universe Worldbuilding were at least in part due to mandate or pressure from Riot for Arcane to start serving as a vehicle from which to launch a cinematic universe. But I have no evidence to prove that, and frankly, a bunch of the writers are just huge League of Legends nerds themselves and may have put that stuff in for the love of the game.

So I don't know. Eventually, if Riot keeps making shows, their corporate structure will do what corporate structures always do and fuck with shit in the name of leveraging cross-brand promotional synergistic dynamic integrations to achieve deeper market penetration in key demographics or whatever.

But I don't know that they've done it to Arcane.
