Important note about Red is that she's almost never sarcastic, and when she is, it's a major red flag signaling that she's incredibly stressed out/worried over something. This is something that's pretty constant between aus/verses.

Now, for the mw2 verse? That still holds true, for the most part. Because she's mortal there. She has entirely different relationships than in any 'main' au, she's spent almost half of her life in the military at this point. And while it's still her, she's more serious, her tongue's a little sharper. She's a more withdrawn. Still amicable, don't get me wrong, she still comes off as someone that can be trusted but that won't go both ways. Not as much as it used to anyways.

You can’t put that on the tags and not say the name of the game. I’m a complete sucker for that dynamic. But yes, this ship has completely rotted my brain, I see any ship dynamic that I like and I immediately think of rosegarden.

Yesterday I was reading the Fairy Tales of Remnant and while reading The Warrior in the Woods, my first thought was wow, this really is rosegarden coded.

Ruby being extremely badass but the moment Oscar looks at her she gets self-conscious, trips on her feets and falls face first.

At first I was elated by the realization.

But then, I saw that what appeared to be a blessing by fate, was actually a curse of yearning.

Every time I see my initials now, all I can see and think of is them. Unfortunately in the research lab I’m in, we record which work is done by us by initialing it and…well

I see what you mean about the parallels! There are so many different ways this could mirror his situation, there’s definitely the way you saw it but I have a few different ideas as well.

Looking at Zeus’s character:

Let’s say he is the gods. I think the whole situation could be a manifestation of the inner turmoil of Oz in many ways:

A) This could be a depiction of the lost fairytale for him. He originally didn’t really want to save humanity, he wanted to stay with Salem, and only accepted the mission because the god of light said she would be there. So what actually happened to Odysseus and his men would occur if Salem had perished. He was being asked to choose between the one he loved and the future of humanity and he was going to make that choice. Thought there was no one that he knew or was watching his decision, Odysseus’s men could be represented as a metaphor for humanity if they witnessed his original choice. “But… we’ll die” “I know” so the song and video could represent what could have been.

B) it could be a representation of “the great divorce” part of the lost fable. Zeus as a version of the god of light within Ozma’s head, always there, reminding him of his responsibilities, of his choices. That definitive moment where he has to make that big choice again “please dont make me do this” but this time it’s Salem trying to lure him into choosing her over humanity. He chooses humanity, and though in this case he chose the lives of his “men” (humanity in this case) it all fell to ruin anyways, and he perished at her hands. I guess in this scenario Zeus would be both the God of light and Salem.

Another option:

Zeus (the god of light) warned Odysseus (Ozma) about her. Zeus is singing of pride for a good portion of it, and he personifies it as a woman, and as we know, Salem has a very egocentric mindset and is very prideful “she blamed everyone and everything, everything except herself,” “we could be the gods of this world.”

In Oscar’s case, this could be a very real iteration of his thought process during the vacuo era, before the return of rwbyj as well as after, in regards to the merge. Think about it. They’re separated; he’s doing literally everything he can to find out a way that she could still be around, a way that he could still go back to her, because she was one of the main reasons he was able to feel like himself before their fall. But now, in his mind - people don’t need Oscar, they need Ozpin. So he gives over control readily. Ruby needed and wanted Oscar, not Ozpin. She reassured him in so many ways that he was his own person. He could link the idea of her to his state of being happy and himself, but in his mind, while hoping desperately that she’s not gone, that the one person who, against all odds, believed in him and not the wizard in his head, he’s slowly giving up due to the lack of resources or explanations he could find, and as he gives up on them, he gives up on his sense of self, his importance to the world. Maybe in his mind, to save humanity would be to give in to the merge, to let Oz be the one at the front, not Oscar; to let himself fade away into the greater collection of souls. Penelope could be Ruby but also his sense of self at large in this scenario: in his mind, at least I think, to choose Ruby, her words and what she believed in, how he was the one that mattered more out of the two souls, that his sense of self does matter in the grand scheme of things, would be preventing humanity (Odysseus’s men) from being saved. Oscar said himself, “every choice I’ve made has been the wrong one.” So when the world is hanging in the balance of his choice, why would he choose the riskier one? Why would he chose the one where he’s just Oscar Pine when the people are looking for someone who has the qualifications of Ozpin, a man who has made so many more mistakes but has had much more experience? Searching for RWBYJ constantly could be a way for him to justify being Oscar, holding on to the last bits of hope that he won’t have to choose between himself (Penelope) and humanity (Odysseus’s men) “please don’t make me do this” by continuing to search for her, he’s holding off on what he thinks needs to be done to save humanity in the case of them actually being gone, giving in to the merge (Odysseus dying). He’s trying so hard to hold off on making that choice but eventually he starts to lose hope. Maybe in his mind, to truly give the world what is necessary, he needs to give full control to Ozpin and stop fighting the merge so much, he wouldn’t do that if Ruby came back because she has and would still tell him to stay himself, and would also take the previously shared burden of saving the world and share it again. But if he gave up on them surviving, on the people and mainly the person who believed in the boy rather than the wizard, on the person who would take action to save humanity and him “I can save you,” then that means he would have to be responsible for the future of everyone, something that he feels inadequate to do from his past mistakes, he would have to abandon himself along with them

Zeus could also be seen as Salem, like you said. Taunting both Oz and Oscar. The key difference is, in my opinion, whereas Oz initially made the choice of abandoning remnant and humanity to go back to where he thought Salem was, and only chose to save humanity because he could find Salem again and be with her, Oscar would be the exact opposite in a sense, I know that in the end, Oscar would give himself up, he’s just that type of person.

This was a lot of rambling and I still don’t know if I got my point across or if I even had a point to begin with but this is what you asked for. Not as much Rosegarden as I would have liked but I mean Oscar is fundamentally different than Odysseus and Ozma and Ozpin and Ironwood: he was changed so completely by Ruby choosing to keep moving forward despite all she had been through, because he knows she would have kept fighting, so would he, “she (in reference to Gretchen in the fight against Hazel) chose to put the world before herself. So do I” but he would never sacrifice anyone else for that, would never sacrifice anyone else to get his old life back. He’s the type of person who, though he would hate it, would give up every bit of himself before giving up a single life in pursuit of self preservation or something precious to him. Ruby inspired him to have that mindset.

Oh hek I went on another tangent. Anyways.
