Rwby :The Little Prince death of the Rose

It was a few months ago I read a few The Little Prince story's an other different versions of it and a few of the versions I got to read that I could find in some of the stories the Rose that The Little Prince love and cares for dies and one story The Rose couldn't wait for the Little Prince anymore and just wilted away and in another she sacrificed herself but in some of the story towards the end of the story she comes back to life

or she starts to regrow from a new life and then in Rwby we actually see that happening with Ruby herself

since she is the Rose in Oscar's Little Prince story and Ruby did technically die in the show and now we're seeing Ruby try to regrow as the person she wants to be enough to be even though she still holding back with certain things as we could see in the Rwby x Justice League movie part 2

And and I think we'll see Ruby regrow but she needs to open up to people and I think one of the people should open up to first is Oscar since he's always really noticed how long she's felt sure the others notice it now but they seem more panicked and don't really seem like they know how to approach the subject with Ruby

without feeling a bit upset and I know it'll probably lead to a few misunderstandings but they'll work everything out but Ruby's just going to need somebody she can talk to that's going to be direct and at the same time having understanding of how confused she is about everything and about not wanting to be herself or feeling like she's not enough and the best person she could probably talk to right now is Oscar another person she could have talked to is Penny but well she sadly not here because

I feel like a lot of rubies ark that she went through in volume 9 parallels with Penny went through and volume seven and eight and I like that the writers did that where we showed that even though Penny's not here Ruby has some parallels with her closest and best friend and now she's going to have more parallels with someone else she's close to who's a friend or possibly will be more than that to her later on

Thought I’d share some unfinished stuff since I haven’t been active lately :DD

I just had. A Thought. A thought that I might someday turn into a fanfic that I maybe someday will finish that I could possibly one day post.

What if. In one of Oscar's merge episodes, like the one in the epilogue when it fades to black. He gets visions of the ever after.

What if. All this time, he's been seeing bits and pieces of their journey during these attacks. And in that specific one. With the grave in the background. He watches the tea party. He watches what happens to Ruby. How she's slowly falling apart. And he's forced to watch. As she chooses to end it all. How the light he admired in those eyes flickered and died. Hears the words she says to little in the forest. Hears what the illusions say to her. Forced to watch it all happen. He tries to call out. Tries to help. Watches as Ozpin is hitting her with a cane. Snaps at the same moment she does. Then he makes eye contact with her. He thought it was just a vision, but the way she was looking at him was so real. Then he sees himself fall, realizing it was just an illusion of himself. Then watches the cat betray her. Watches the little mouse friend, so much like her in determination and bright spirits, get heartlessly killed. Tries to stop Ruby from drinking the tea. Grasping desperately at her but hands going through. The mirrors that reflected the light of her soul had shattered. And he watched her choose to stop fighting. To stop living. Watches his symbol of certainty and hope die by her own hands.

Also, op, I thought I had analyzed everything regarding their parallels but you just hit me with a maghnild full of truth upside the head and I cannot thank you enough

i need to talk about the epilogue again. i need to talk about how Oscar wishes so desperately that he was more like Ruby... while being a near mirror image of her and not even realizing it.

"If there was anything I wish I could borrow from you Ruby, it would be your certainty. You always believed things would work out... up until the moment they didn't."

Says boy who is certain Ruby and her team are not gone forever. Someone who has been working tirelessly to find an answer on how to bring them home. Who believes they'll find a way back to Remnant, to Vacuo, to him, because he hasn't been given enough reason to prove him otherwise.

How very Treasure of him. How very Ruby of him.

"You always believed in the best. Saw people for who they really were..."

Says boy who saw Emerald and Hazel as people who didn't want to cause harm in the ways they had been. Who saw Ironwood's fear and knew it was his weakness. Says Oscar Pine, who has always seen all of Ruby - her strengths and her faults in equal measure. Who questioned how she was able to handle the weight of all these struggles because he - correctly - believed that it was too much for someone in her position to carry. Says boy who, moments after singing her praises about how she "must have been one of the best huntresses at Beacon", also holds space for her humanity, her limits, and sees "how hard this must be on her too". "Man I wish I was better at understanding the people around me" (paraphrased) says only character that clocked how much Ruby was struggling four volumes before anyone else did.

But while he can see these virtues in others... he struggles to recognize these qualities within his own character. When it requires looking inward.

"You always believed in the best. Saw people for who they really were. Some of us... don't know anymore."

Oscar says this despite how he has always acted in the ways that were truest to his values, beliefs, and character; despite Ozpin's influence or any obstacles that tried to get in his way. He says this - lamenting about how he wishes he were more like Ruby - while doing, saying, and believing things that she herself does, says, and is. Including the very things he is praising her for!!

Now, why does that sound familiar? Oh. Oh right. Because Ruby herself is the same way. How she, just like Oscar, is so unbelievably good - both of them wanting to be heroes, who help others, and want to become the best versions of themselves they can be, thanks in large part to the role models that came before them - and yet neither of them can recognize or give themselves enough credit for the things they do right!! The things they appreciate, admire, and learned from those who've inspired them!!

Ruby spends all of Volume 9 doubting herself. She doubts her actions, her choices, her failures. She questions her identity, who she is, and who she wants to be. Compares herself to the heroes from fairytales - an ideal she can never live up to. She questions and doubts her own worth because no matter how hard she tries, she is never enough in her eyes.

And just like Oscar, a fault she sees in herself is something that she acknowledges and praises in him. When she tries so hard to do the right thing, she believes she may have just caused more harm than good. She views herself as worthless. But when Oscar laments the same fear and worry to her in Atlas - that he was foolish to think Ironwood would listen, that every choice he made was the wrong one - she reassures him that he did the best he could, and that she's just glad he's okay. That simply having tried at all is what matters most. That it's enough.

Lastly, can we talk about the poetry of this setup? Can we talk about how Ruby has spent nine volumes slowly breaking under the pressure of her responsibility, and this last season believing she isn't, and never will be, enough... while Oscar Pine stands a world a part from her and speaks about how much he values her? How much he treasures who she is and the things she's done? How Ruby wishes she wasn't herself anymore, but Oscar Pine - who is having his own identity robbed from him - says that if he could be like anyone in the whole world, if he had the choice to decide the kind of person he could be, then he'd choose to be a bit like Ruby Rose? If that wasn't too much to ask for?

I sketched this in procreate initially cause I didn't think I would colour it. Ended up bringing it into sai and lost a bit of the emotion from the original sketch by having to redraw it, but oh well. 😔 Also a zoom in on the doodles in the corner inspired by another part of the fic's most recent chapter:

I support Ruby shaking Oscar (and/or Oz) like a pringles can whenever they're being cagey little jerks.
