Jiang Fengmian and Wei Changze decidedly to bring Wei Ying with them to the conference because they fear what the child would do if left alone back in Lotus Pier - they could be back to see the sect flourishing under the guide of a 8 years old or to disciples running around in panic because their second young master burned another building or just disappeared (or worst, both).
This time the conference was in Qinghe Nie's Unclean Realm and the tension was a little higher than normal due to Wen Ruohan. Fortunately, Wei Ying seemed oblivious to it, looking around with sparkling curious eyes.
Recently, the leader of the Wen sect started to amass power, more than normal, and acting, unsurprisingly, arrogant and making everyone else uncomfortable in a way. No one wanted to offend him or to get too much of his attention, the only one going against common sense was the currently Nie sect leader, and Wei Changze worried.
Maybe it wasn't the best choice to bring Wei Ying.
Sighing, Wei Changze followed his leader and brother around with a polite smile and a hand against his son's small back to guide him to walk with them (and to know when he decides to run away from what he calls "boring adult stuff"). They made small talk with other sects, greeting whoever they knew when passing by, introducing Wei Ying to other kids around in hopes he would behave like his age for today.
"Jiang zongzhu." came the greeting when they were returning to their seats as the conference was about to begin.
"Wen zongzhu." Jiang Fengmian bowed, followed by Wei Changze and Wei Ying.
"Ah, is this the famed brother?" the sect leader looked at the man with grey eyes with an empty smile.
"Wei Changze is honored to be noticed by sect leader Wen." he bowed formally.
"Wei? I thought you would adopt your father's name at first opportunity." the smile turned a bit ironic before looking down to the child behind his father's leg, pausing for a moment "And who is this?"
"I'm Wei Ying." the child said, bowing as formally as his father did.
"Ah, the little genius the Jiang clan caught." Wen Ruohan nodded a greeting back "You have your father's eyes. But your face..." with intensity, the sect leader crouched down to the child's level and analyzed his small face "Do you know your mother's family, perhaps?"
Wei Ying shook his head "Only a-die's...."
"I see..." Wen Ruohan lifted his hand and held Wei Ying's face, turning from side to side with delicacy "It's curious how much you look like that woman."
"What woman, if I may ask?" Wei Changze was starting to sweat in nervousness.
Wen Ruohan turned back with a smile "The woman I wanted to marry before my wife."
"Before your wife?" Wei Ying asked.
"Yes. I was a young man in love, you see. But then my father arranged my marriage and that woman ran away and I never saw her again. Perhaps she was with my first born in her belly?"
"Hm.... My mother? The first born?"
Wen Ruohan's eyes widened, together with Wei Changze's.
"A little genius, indeed." Wen Ruohan laughed.
A rather familiar laugh that made Wei Changze shiver.
"Father, it's time." a new voice approached them.
"A-Xu, come." Wen Ruohan said, without looking back "Meet your jiejie's son."
"Jiejie?" Wen Xu looked curious.
"Yes."
Both Wen Ruohan and Wei Ying turned to look at the young man with identical smile that shocked everyone that was looking (and eavesdropping) at the scene.
"I see." Wen Xu said after a moment "Nice to meet you. Apparently, I'm your... uncle."
"Perhaps we could arrange a visit after this conference end, what do you think?" Wen Ruohan booped Wei Ying's small nose with a smile.
"Eh~" Wei Ying lifted an eyebrow then shrugged "Ok."
Wei Changze would definitely drink until he passed out that night just to run away from his worries for a few hours at least.
He definitely should have left Wei Ying behind.

Brotherhood of Man
Somehow, after the multi-layered shit sandwich of betrayal that happened in Nightless City, Lan Xichen manages to convince his two besties to swear brotherhood with him and each other. Lan Xichen's Polyamory 101 class apparently didn't tell him that forcing a vee to become a three-for-all is a bad idea. Nie Mingjue and Jin Guangyao are bonded by only two things: 1. loving Lan Xichen 2. hating each other.

Nie Mingjue is great at letting bygones be bygones, as we can tell as he glares all the way through Jin Guangyao's skull.
Next we jump to Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao playing the song of clarity for Nie Mingjue, with Lan Xichen in a particularly sexy set of ultra-fancy robes.

NMJ keeps his eyes shut so he won't have to see the extreme eye fucking that's going on right in front of his salad.

I can't help but think...is this how Lan Xichen is spending his time while Lan Wangji is in forced seclusion? Lan Xichen didn't attack any elders, so there's no reason he shouldn't be enjoying himself, but he's gone all in on the fuckboy life while his brother is seriously struggling. The Lan brothers seem a lot less close after Wei Wuxian's death interlude and I wonder if this is part of the reason.

We take a tiny break from empathy during this section so that Lan Wangji can check Wei Wuxian's qi.

He does, and goes to play healing for him. He does not react like WWX is lacking a core, despite doing the magic wrist check that would tip him off if that were the case, so I add this to the pile of evidence that WWX 2.0 does have a (shitty) core in his new body.
I like this little scene because Lan Wangji is clearly worried, emotional, upset - he's doing his little sour-lemon frown and he's intensely focused on Wei Wuxian while he plays healing - but he's not trying to wake him, and he doesn't say anything about his own concerns once Wei Wuxian is awake.

Grown-up Lan Wangji is still not a fan of these unorthodox cultivation activities, but he respects WWX's choices and focuses on supporting him, not stopping him.
Play Misty For Me
Next, empathy shows us Jin Guangyao playing for Nie Mingjue in a 1-on-1 session in JinLintai. I guess this is like dialysis, where Nie Mingjue has to waste a shit ton of time going back and forth between home and JinLinTai to get cleansed.
It seems like Lan Xichen could have picked a better person to train in playing the song of clarity. I know Nie Huaisang's wussy core might make him a poor candidate, but surely there's someone in Qinghe who could do the job? Or send a series of Lan disciples in an exchange student arrangement? But Lan Xichen would rather force these guys to hang out together.

Lan Xichen may seem like he's being wilfully blind, or plain stupid, but I don't think that's what he's about. He's aware that both of these guys are, from a certain point of view, bad people. Nie Mingjue is driven by rage and a rigid sense of justice and social hierarchy; Jin Guangyao is consumed with self-interest and will use any means to achieve his ends.
Good guys Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji will also use any means to achieve their ends - attacking elders, raising the dead, and whatnot. What all four of these not-Lan Xichen people have in common is that they go to extremes, too high or too low, there ain't no in-betweens.

Lan Xichen embodies a combination of Confucian and Buddhist values, I think; he wants the people he cares about to chill the fuck out and find the middle way, and also to be truly brotherly toward each other. He tries to achieve this through gentle nagging and also by modeling the behavior he wants to see, creating opportunities for peace and balance. Unfortunately at the time Empathy is showing us, he's unware how extreme and unbalanced his own feelings for Jin Guangyao really are.
At some point, Jin Guangyao starts playing the altered version of the music, and we have a series of kind of weird cuts where 1. the Song of Fuck You is playing on the soundtrack while Lan Xichen is teaching Jin Guangyao 2. NMJ starts to hork up some blood in the 1-on-1 session but finishes horking in the trio session. I think this is meant to show that it was a progression.
Meet Me Outside
Empathy jumps ahead to Lan Xichen trying to warn Jin Guangyao about Nie Mingjue's declining temperament, saying that if it wasn't for JGY playing for him every day, it would be super bad, or words to that effect. He is interrupted by Nie Mingjue showing up to yell at Jin Guangyao. Was Nie Mingjue eavesdropping so that his head could recall this later in Empathy?

I'm inclined to see the dynamic among the three of them at this point through a lens of domestic violence. Lan Xichen stands by helplessly while Nie Mingjue makes it clear that he's in a rage and wants to take it out on Jin Guangyao; JGY calmly tells Lan Xichen to stay behind while he goes outside to take a beating. That's not just optics; Nie Mingjue attacks him the moment they're alone. The fact that NMJ is drunk on resentment is only partly the fault of Jin Guangyao's musical poison; a lot of it is his own choice to do saber cultivation.

Lan Xichen may remember similar interactions with his parents. He's certainly having a trauma reaction instead of stepping into this situation from a place of strength. He's protected Jin Guangyao from NMJ before without any difficulty, but the changes in NMJ's temperament and possibly the loss of Lan Wangji's companionship have put him in a weaker state of mind, it seems. And he himself may have been the target of Nie Mingjue's anger at times, too.

The Ragening
After dodging the first swing from Nie Mingjue, Jin Guangyao asks him why he's mad. The gist of NMJ's beef is this: Xue Yang escaped from the unclean realm. NMJ (correctly) blames JGY. Now Xue Yang is imprisoned by Jin Guangshan after a trial or something, in which Chang Ping retracted his earlier accusation. So they can't execute Xue Yang because there's no evidence against him. (Why can they imprison him for life with no evidence, then? Seems sketchy).
Nie Mingjue says that Xue Yang has a piece of Yin metal, and that's why Jin Guangshan is keeping him alive. JGY doesn't affirm or deny this, but he has to obey his dad, so he can't kill Xue Yang just to please Nie Mingjue.

Nie Mingjue tells him to stop doing that thing he does.

Jin Guangyao has to intuit what Nie Mingjue is talking about, which is apparently that JGY is being calculating and manipulative.
He proceeds to rip NMJ a new one for believing that everyone can be as rigteous as him when he has his noble birth and high cultivation to depend on. JGY points out that he himself doesn't have early cultivation training or a good family background to draw on. He also gives us a little bit of specific info about his position in the clan, saying that Jin Zixuan's death didn't give him a clear path; Jin Guangshan would rather bring back another bastard son than allow Jin Guangyao to succeed him.

Presumably he's talking about Mo Xuanyu. Before you feel sorry for JGY, remember that he caused Jin Zixuan's death specifically so he could claim his place in the line of succession.
Nie Mingjue says, dismissively, that he's only refusing to kill Xue Yang because he doesn't want to risk his position in the clan. Nie Mingjue says this like it's a bad thing: like Jin Guangyao, who he fired quite a while ago and totally doesn't work for him, should go against his father's express orders and kill a guy, without evidence, because Nie Mingjue thinks that would be more righteous. I gotta say, Nie Mingjue is a real piece of work.

Nie Mingjue acknowledges that he himself has killed a fuckton of people, but never for his own advancement. Jin Guangyao challenges him with words that have a little flavor of Wei Wuxian's way of thinking: did everyone you've killed deserve it? Are your standards fair?
Then he heads firmly back into villain territory by saying "sacrifices must be made for greatness" which has Nie Mingjue asking why he doesn't sacrifice himself, instead of killing other people? (Shades of WWX challenging Wen Zhuliu) Jin Guangyao replies with an emphatic nope, which inspires Nie Mingjue to kick him down the stairs and attribute his poor character to his mom's line of work, for not the first time. If I was in charge of Jinlintai, I would put a safety gate up there.

The bottom of these stairs is kind of an important place for Jin Guangyao; he's been kicked down them twice (that we know of) and each time he stood up 100% ready to kill the guy at the top of the stairs. Although he took a super long time to actually do it in the case of his dad, I'm pretty sure JGS's fate was sealed in that moment....just like Nie Mingjue's is sealed here.
Side note: In the show, JGY starts musically poisoning NMJ while they are still ostensibly getting along fine, whereas in the book he waits until NMJ has kicked him down the stairs and insulted his mom. CQL Jin Guangyao is just more forward-thinking, I guess.

After fixing his hat, Jin Guangyao walks up the stairs calmly explaining to Nie Mingjue how he fucked with the song of cleansing. This causes Nie Mingjue to qi deviate while the Department of Questionable Visual Effects messes around with extra copies of Jin Guangyao in AfterFX.
Not to be outdone, the Department of Questionable Practical Effects has loaded up the front of Nie Mingjue's torso with exploding blood squibs, because apparently that is how they interpret "all his meridians were broken." (We won't talk about the various non-cultivation-aware translations that say "all his veins were broken.")

Nie Huaisang shows up - running up all of the steps at Jinlintai. From where? Did he run from Qinghe? How did he know Nie Mingjue was in trouble? If Lan Xichen told him, why isn't he here too? Presumably he is still busy checking the guest list for the next conference, per JGY's request.

Jin Guangyao grabs Nie Huaisang and holds him out of harms way while vigorously pretending to be upset while Nie Mingjue points his saber at them. Nie Huaisang interprets this as NMJ not recognizing him (and if you've seen Fatal Journey, you know this is a fair interpretation) but it might be that he's pointing it at JGY to encourage him to let NHS go.

This Is The End
Next we see NMJ all tied up on a table in Jinlintai, with corpse poisoning marks on his neck. Someday I will learn exactly when these happen, what they mean, and how everyone who has them gets them, but today is not that day. (Remember when Wen Qing got them while WWX was playing angry flute at the rocks behind Qinghe, and then they went away when he stopped playing? And how this was never explained?) Xue Yang is walking around him with Baxia and half of the yin tiger seal. He can't control him without the whole seal so JGY says to kill him.

In case all of Xue Yang's behavior seems super random, it's actually not; his project is turning high-level cultivators into controllable fierce corpses. Where Wei Wuxian controlled his fierce corpse Wen Ning with kindness and turnips, Xue Yang uses fancy brain nails. With Nie Mingjue, he presumably hadn't developed the technique yet, which is why they can't subdue him to use him. And he failed to get the nails into Xiao Xingchen or Wei Wuxian's heads. So basically the entire project was a bust, given that he didn't deploy Wen Ning for anything, and Song Lan just followed him around an empty town. This is what happens when you get too attached to a particular creative vision.

Camera Operator: hey now!
Xue Yang uses Baxia to chop Nie Mingjue's head off, which has to piss Baxia off. Xue Yang says Nie Mingjue is finally obedient, which is only sort of true, since he'll be coming back for revenge in sword-spirit form in the live action, or in naked dismembered corpse form in every other version of the story.
Friendly Neighborhood Paperman
This murder causes Wei Wuxian to snap out of empathy back into his paperman body, and accidentally pull NMJ's head's eye covers off, revealing eyes that don't look a goddamn thing like actor Wang Yizhou's eyes, but this head has had a rough few years.
Jin Guangyao is right there in the storeroom with him; it's a good thing he didn't think to have one of his chats with NMJ's head during the 30 minutes WWX spent communing with it. He chases Paperman around slashing his sword through the furniture and knocking shit over.

Among JGY's many evil traits, perhaps the worst is the way he wastes storage space. Look at all these shelves with 2 or 3 books on them.
Paperman makes his way over to Suibian where it's displayed on a shelf, and hops onto its hilt while JGY watches. He smirks at WWX's failure to draw the sword, but eventually Paper WWX does draw it, surprising JGY. Suibian fights him remotely for a bit while WWX gets away and makes his way back to Lan Wangji.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji trade arm clasps while Wei Wuxian gives him a sitrep, and then they run off to find Nie Mingjue's head.

Because there is no limit to Wei Wuxian's sex appeal, Lan Wangji instantly beats up everyone who gets in his sweetie's way. Lan Xichen shows up, a little alarmed at the attacks on the guards but still on board with their plan.

Lan Xichen deploys his most dramatic stair-climbing flourish to show that he means business.
Eventually Jin Guangyao shows up, and they ask to see his secret chamber. Jin Guangyao tries to explain that it's not, like, a secret chamber any more if you let people come in and look at it.

Apparently there IS a limit to Jin Guangyao's sex appeal, because Lan Xichen puts his foot down for the very first time and tells him, not asks him, to open the room.

...while Wei Wuxian smirks like a kid whose sibling is the one getting yelled at for a change.

Before Jin Guangyao can answer, Su She shows up, saying it's not cool to demand entry to a clan leader's bed chamber, as if Lan Xichen didn't have his own embroidered bathrobe alredy hanging on a hook in there.

Lan Wangji and Su She greet each other nastily, and Wei Wuxian calls him out for copying Lan Wangji, which ends the episode.

Lan Wangji had heard when Sect Leader Nie had remarried for the second time. The whole cultivation world had heard how he'd chosen a random wandering cultivator.
They'd heard how how he'd adopted that random cultivator's son for his own, slotting him into the line of succession right behind Nie Huaisang.
His first two marriages had been political and had given him two heirs. To marry for love at this point in his life is not surprising, but that hadn't stopped the rumors.
When he's fifteen, the Nie siblings come to visit. Nie Mingjue attended several years prior, but has been sent along on paper to strengthen ties between the Lan and Nie but in reality it's to keep an eye on his brothers. Lan Wangji doesn't know how two clan heirs can need so much supervision, but he's glad that Xichen's friend is visiting him.
Nie Mingjue arrives with the rest of the Nie disciples and two missing little brothers.
"I fucking give up," Nie Mingjue says to Xichen. "I got them here. They're your problem now."
Xichen blinks. "You did not, technically, get them here. As they're not here."
"They'll show up," he says, sounding a very concerning combination of resigned and irritated.
Uncle wants him to make friends with the other clan heirs, but between this and the Jiang hating him by the end of the first conversation, he's not sure how successful he's going to be.
He supposes there's Jin Zixuan.
Or the Wen.

i want a modern wangxian au where the story doesn’t finish when they get together. i want chapters and chapters of their dynamics while in a relationship.
i want to see wangxian going in a cinema date and wei wuxian kissing his boyfriend to the point of leaning down to his pants until lan wangji has to forcefully stop him because there are people nearby. i want them discussing over to eat at a fast food chain or at a healthy restaurant friday evening and lan wangji folding when wei wuxian pouts, so they end up with a veggie hamburger, a big mac and a mcflurry on their table (the mcflurry belongs to lan wangji).
i want them giving goodnight kisses to their bunnies before going to sleep. i bet lan wangji likes his showers cold, wei wuxian likes them burning hot, and they always hug each other from behind after it just to annoy the other because of their body temperature.
i want to see lan wangji glaring at jiang cheng from the other side of the dinner table and only showing a nice demeanor when it's jiang yanli who directs her words to him and that infuriates jiang cheng so much that he calls out for memories of when lan wangji used to reject wei wuxian's advances just to be petty. lan wangji hates when they remember how he used to ignore his wei ying.
i want wei wuxian burning their kitchen with a recipe and lan wangji running back home worried wei wuxian got hurt (he just got a slight burn, but he's all pouting about it anyway, and lan wangji showers him in love and care even though their stove definitely got the worst of it and they'll need another one urgently).
i want wei wuxian pranking the juniors he got at work. i want lan wangji or wei wuxian unintentially going viral regarding something stupid. i want lan xichen being the one who takes candid pictures and who appears by surprise in the apartment during moments they're not ready for it.
i want wei wuxian to have ongoing fights with every neighbour: a competition with the upstairs woman who thinks her sex's life is better than theirs, the university student who thinks he can pull a rock song louder than wei wuxian's favorite ones, the left-door hag who thinks she can still hide a dog even if there are explicit rules in the building forbidding it (wei wuxian specifically chose that building because of this rule and he will not let her get away with it), the right-door lady who thinks she can flirt with wei wuxian's man without consequences (nothing that some disappearances of some of her mail can't solve though), and the neighbour at the front door who's definitely into some drug scheme (wei wuxian helps the police out with that).
these are just stupid ideas, but you get me. i want everything about this couple. i need especially this. i need it like the air i breathe. like the sun. like food.

It was like a time traveler fic with Wangxian where they were saying goodbye to each other as Wei Wuxian left the cloud recesses lectures. It was in Lan Xichen pov.
They were declaring their intent to court each other, LWJ said that he will come with a dizi as his first courting gift. WWX said that he would become a famous cultivator and court LWJ by 22 yrs but then LWJ said 22 yrs is too late and WWX should court him at 19.
Lan Xichen also remarked that WWX gave the Compass of Evil & some other inventions to the lan sect and they would be very fine courtship gifts with the proper presentation

11. For fic finder: It was a WangXian arranged marriage au. What I remember is that the two did not have sex on their wedding night and this caused a rift. For Wuxian who grew up in Yunmeng culture it was a huge offense that Wangji wouldn’t sleep with him, but Wangji didn’t know this because it was standard practice in the Lan clan not to sleep together (I think the Lans had a designated month or something where they had sex). Basically cultural differences in expectation caused the boys to be uncertain around each other. I think Yanli eventually pulls Xichen aside and scolds him for how the Lan have “slighted” Wuxian this way.

I don’t remember how it happens but WWX and LWJ have an arranged marriage (I think or something along this premise) WWX doesn’t want to get married and fights it the entire time but LWJ is steadfast in getting married to WWX. Like WWX tries to come up with so many excuses and LWJ is in love with WWX. I know JC, JFM, JYL, and YZY are all in it.

Requested by anonymous: Hello there! I once sent you a request for Xichen (for the mask reader), so here I am again with a new request for Xichen, because there is never enough Xichen!😁A reader from another clan who has a certain rule - not to reveal her true name unless it's someone she can fully trust. This is a form of safety since most cultivators were persecuted or wanted for various reasons (to be sold, convicted for something they didn't do, etc.), later a clan was formed so that these people could live a normal and safe life. So these cultivators use a alias, a nickname. From the beginning, she was mostly independent and not very social, which gave rise to her nickname - The Loner. She meets Xichen when she comes to Cloud recesses for lessons. Xichen hears the other disciples slandering her, that she's not a cultivator, but a coward, a fugitive, a traitor. They also laughed at her because of her nickname. Xichen was a little sad that she always walked alone and hardly talked to anyone. But once the disciples went so far as to make a very harsh joke of her. She didn't expect it, so she didn't have time to defend herself, because she was thrown to the ground, in which she injured her hand. Seeing this, Xichen sent Wangji to find and punish the disciples while he took care of her injuries. It was such a loving and kind gesture to the reader that she finally revealed her real name to him. And Xichen knew that meant she had full confidence in him. Later they fell in love❤️❤️❤️

The Loner, a name that felt so familiar and yet so distant. Xichen was surprised when he finally met the person behind the name, whether it was a chosen one or a given one, and even more when he realized that you were here for the lessons at Cloud Recesses. However, he was not pleased to see you wander alone at any time he saw you. Like right now, as he walked next to his brother while talking about something involving Lan Qiren's lessons, and you were all alone.
You were dressed in your own clan clothing, white underclothes and turquoise dress on top of it with a golden belt that held multiple trinkets along with your sword. Xichen had to admit that you looked ethereal, which was partially thanks to your clear confidence as you walked. While yes, you were all alone, you didn't look unhappy with the loneliness. Rather, you looked relaxed if anything.
The first time he tried to approach you, you didn't talk to him in the slightest. You nodded along to his statements before excusing yourself and walking off, which ended the first interaction between the two of you. The second and third went about the same way, just a bit longer than the previous ones.
This time, Xichen relucted in approaching you. It was clear that you were rather alone, not talking to anyone and choosing to study in lonesome. However, his eyes were still trained on your form as you walked, hands neatly folded in front of you with your head high. It was quite ironic, how you tried to remain invisible and yet had all eyes on you. Only, it was clearly not out of interest like Xichen's gaze and rather something else. Disdain, pity or even hate... It was obvious to you, but you chose to ignore it.
Until the dam breaks and all emotions break lose, but not yours.
Rather, the emotions of a group of seven Lan disciplines were the ones that broke and they chose to take that out on you. Now you weren't unfamiliar with taunting, quite the opposite if anything, and you certainly weren't unfamiliar with the hatred that the Lan disciplines had for you. You were everything they were against, or at least that's why they believed at first glance. A coward, a runaway and traitor. All names were often used to describe you, some more than others, and all were insulting in every way.
Today wasn't any different.
"Loner!" The nickname you grew accustomed to and hated at the same time, yet you responded to it every time as well. With a slight turn of the head to acknowledge the call, the seven disciplines approached you with sneers on their faces. One of them stepped closer, a bit too close for comfort, and pushed your shoulder softly with their hand. You didn't care much for it, rather you chose to ignore the rude gesture and instead focus on the conversation at hand.
"Shouldn't you be running now, coward?" One sneers and you almost wanted to scoff, but didn't get the chance as the next insults rang. They ranged from normal insults to degrading words that you had never heard before. Xichen didn't even need to hear anything that was said, your expression said enough, being one of shock and slight disgust. Inching closer, Xichen could hear the conversation much more clearly.
"Is it true you just left your companions to die? I mean, they all said that you just ran off like a coward." "They were torturing the demon and I wasn't going to wait for his friends to show up and kill us all." You answered, to which you were harshly shoved back.
"Watch it, those are my elders." Another one of the group sneered before shoving you even harder, which ended up in you stumbling down due to your dress. You fell to the ground, softening your landing by stretching your hands behind you and in turn landing on your hands first. A sharp pain shot up your left hand, reaching 'till your elbow before stopping as you lifted your arm again. Now sat on the ground and arm cradled against your chest, the people surrounding you suddenly felt much more threatening. They loomed above you, all grinning menacingly at you, staring at you like you were prey. You felt small, all confidence from before now long gone.
"You don't deserve to be called a cultivator, you and your whole clan of traitors. You run like cowards and hide behind silly names. You're a -" "That's quite enough." Lan Xichen's voice rang out, freezing everybody in the area as they heard the tone of his voice. Xichen was kind and gentle, yet now his voice sounded cold and distant that it was terrifying. The disciplines scrambled together, all coming up with different explanation that would make it seem like they did not just break a million of their own rules. It didn't seem to matter, however, as Xichen gaze moved to you. He crouched beside you, gently helping you up before moving his head towards to his younger brother.
"Take care of their punishment... Make sure the elders also get investigated, because if watch she says is true then they will receive punishment as well." Xichen said and Wangji bows his head before turning to the disciplines while Xichen guides you away. Although you could walk fine, Xichen's arm remained around your waist as he walked you to the doctor to check out your hand. Like expected, your hand was sprained along with a small fracture in your hand. With a simple splint and bandages, you were sent away again with some pain relieving medicines.
"Thank you for your help." You turned to Xichen again, bowing your head to him before softly whispering your name. Xichen didn't hear, however, so you repeated it louder.
"(Y/f/n). That's my name... Please only call me that in private." You bowed your head once more before turning away and walking off awkwardly.
From then on, you were a bit more social than before. You greeted others awkwardly before finding your way to Xichen's side and happily talking to him instead. He is quite surprised to hear the strict rules from your own clan, even more surprised when he learned that him knowing your name was a rather big deal to say the least. Then again, he could not freely use your name when he pleased and thus he opted for nicknames that left you a blushing mess.
The first was simple, just blossom. This was followed by lotus and eventually sunshine, which is where it remained since it had the biggest reaction from you. No matter how many times he called you by that name, it always made your face heat up and render you speechless. You didn't know why, maybe because it was coming from him specifically. He wasn't one that you expected something like that from, he didn't seem like a type to call someone rather flirty names. At least that's how you perceived it, anyway.
Now how you got here, was a bigger mystery. If anyone had told you that you'd be here in Xichen's room later in the evening, then you would've laughed at them before moving on with your life. Yet here you were, awkwardly drinking the tea before you while Xichen just stared. Not an uncomfortable one, as weird as that sounded, and rather a loving one that made your stomach flip and your heart beat just a bit faster.
"May I ask you a question?" Xichen suddenly asked and you looked up from your cup before nodding as you put it down, giving a soft smile. Xichen returned the smile with one of his own before clearing his throat softly.
"Your clan doesn't talk about themselves nor do they often interact with other clans, so why are you here?" "Honest answer or the nice answer?" You asked with a smile and Xichen raised an eyebrow at this before answering with 'an honest answer'. You looked away slightly with a sigh before turning back to Xichen.
"I was bored..." You held back your laughter successfully for a few seconds before bursting into giggles as you looked at your hands again.
"It's stupid, I know~ But I barely having anyone my age to talk to and the elders are... Well, I'm sure you understand." You giggled again before grabbing your teacup again and casually sipping from it while watching Xichen's reaction. For a few seconds, he looked confused before he joined your giggling with his own soft laugh.
"Ridiculous, huh?" "No, no. I understand." Xichen spoke with a shake of his hand, all while trying to hide his smile from you. Unsuccessfully, of course, as you immediatley caught the action.
"You're laughing at me... Really?" You scoffed at him jokingly, to which he only smiled at you once again before filling his cup and yours again. Lifting the cup to his lips, he halted before talking again.
"I hope it's to your liking then." Downing the cup of tea, he stood up from his spot and lifting the tea pot while moving to make another.
"Ah, you don't have to. I should leave anyway... It's improper for me to stay here so late in the evening, people will talk." "Now since when has that bothered you?" Xichen spoke as he lifted the pot up above the fire, filling it with water and herbs before returning to his seat opposite of you.
"One more tea pot can't hurt, the sun hasn't gone down yet either." He continued, sighing softly as you nodded and agreed to his proposal.
"Spending so much time with me, some might say you're in love with me." You joked, quickly stretching your back and legs before looking back at Xichen. He wore a soft and yet surprised smile, which made you freeze for a few seconds.
"What?" "Do people say that? That I'm in love with you?" He asked and your eyes widened before shrugging, sipping your tea. "I mean, some do... I talk to you exclusively and you listen, so." You chuckled awkwardly, but stopped again when his expression changed to an amused expression.
"I did not think my emotions were so clear to everyone, I'll have to work on that." With another chuckle, he moved back to remove the kettle from the fire and letting it cool down. You, on the other hand, were staring at him in shock. How someone could just speak their feelings so easily without any care, saying it like it meant nothing even when it meant so much. Then again, Lan's were prohibited to lie about anything so maybe that was a reason for his bluntness.
"You're in love with me?" You asked, just to be sure that you had heard what he said just right, and Xichen nodded before adding that he wishes to court you as well. Like his first statement wasn't shocking enough, he drops an even bigger one and once again it's like it's just an average statement.
"You are aware that people don't usually say that out loud so easily, right?" "Now since when were we normal? It's no fun that way." He chuckled at you to which you only rolled your eyes at him before filling your cup again.
"I love you, (Y/n). I know it might be early to say something like that, but I can't deny it." He confessed once more, much more softly than before as he took ahold of your hand. You looked at him before laughing softly.
"Well, you're not the only one in love. So lucky you, huh?" You chuckled at him before pulling your hand back, downing your tea before getting up.
"We'll talk about it tomorrow." You softly kissed the crown of his head before walking out of the room with a smile. Xichen stared at his hand, which he held yours in, before laughing softly. At least he'd have enough time to come up with some new sickening love declaration.

So I remembered the song Quiet from Matilda, and it made me think of little ADHD Babyxian being adopted by the Jiangs.
He's not doing so well to be honest. He's messy, and too far ahead of his classmates, and doesn't do his chores on time because his nose is always in some book he has no business reading.
Auntie Yu has had enough. She tells JFM it's Cloud Recesses Boarding School or the little brat is going back out on the street!
Little A-Xian hears this and he doesn't quite cry, because Mama always told him it feels better to smile, but he does sniffle a bit before falling asleep.
In the morning when Uncle Jiang asks if he wants to go to a new school he says yes.
And then he's being shipped off halfway across the country - away from grumpy JC and sweet JYL, who he'd only just met - to a school where he doesn't know anyone.
Of course, he gets in trouble. He always does.
He doesn't mean to. He thinks maybe he's just bad.
Headmaster Lan Qiren seems to have something personal against him, but his teacher - Lan Qiren's nephew, Mr. Lan Xichen - is really nice.
He's soft with little A-Xian, seeming to understand him better than he understands himself.
He says A-Xian is a good boy.
WWX isn't sure he believes him, but Mr Lan Xichen is almost always right about everything so he doesn't question how he knows A-Xian is good.
The thing is, Lan Xichen is right. The difference between him and A-Xian's old teachers is that he pays attention to A-Xian. He sees him.
And what he sees breaks his heart.
It may not be the same exactly, but his little brother is around A-Xian's age - just a grade higher - and so, so similar - if in the opposite direction.
Where A-Xian is boisterous, little Zhan-er is too quiet. Where A-Xian is so interested in learning, needing to know everything about EVERYTHING, right now! Zhan-er has a few special interests that captivate him.
He seems standoffish, so the other children exclude him, but Zhan-er knows ALL about rabbits, for example, and reads poetry far beyond his age level, and - oddly enough - can answer any question about ancient blacksmithing techniques you throw at him.
Both boys are very smart, and so very different from their peers.
For Zhan-er this is because he's autistic
Lan Xichen thinks A-Xian might also be on the spectrum. He tries to contact the Jiangs about gaining permission to send him to the in-school psychiatrist, but receives nothing in reply.
It is...deeply concerning.
Lan Xichen brings his thoughts up with his uncle, who grumbles a little, but accepts that maybe it might be possible WWX needs a little extra help.
The next day Lan Xichen asks for A-Xian to stay after class alone. A-Xian is a little scared he's going to be scolded, but Lan Xichen bends down to his level and asks if he would like to meet someone really special.
"Yes!" A-Xian exclaims, excited.
Lan Xichen takes the boy's hand and leads him out the classroom, down the path to the old clan homes that still exist behind Cloud Recesses' campus
As they walk, Lan Xichen explains the history of his home, and A-Xian takes it all in with wide eyes.
Then, finally, they reach the-
"Bunnies!" A-Xian exclaims, already surging away from Lan Xichen with the slipperiness of a professional escape artist.
Lan Xichen chuckles under his breath.
They have arrived at the bunny field.
Zhan-er, who had been told they would be joined today by another boy, frowns at his brother with betrayal, a rabbit held firmly in his arms.
Lan Xichen can see already he's close to tears, so he catches A-Xian's hand and whispers to him.
"We must be very quiet. Bunnies are scared by loud noises."
A-Xian nods at him with wide eyes, closing his mouth tightly like he might even forget to breathe.
"This is Lan Zhan, my brother," Lan Xichen directs A-Xian's attention to where Zhan-er sits scowling amongst the gentians.
"Hello Lan Zhan," A-Xian whisper-yells. "I'm A-Xian."
Lan Xichen hides a grin as Zhan-er nods and points at one of his favourite bunnies - a small Holland lop called Orchid.
"She will play," he murmurs, and then he turns back to the bunny in his arms, hiding his face in her soft fur.
For Zhan-er it is as good as a seal of approval.
Lan Xichen watches as the boys play together and feels a pleasant warmth swell in his stomach. They do get along so nicely. He hopes they become good friends.
As he predicted, the playdate is not a one off event. Soon enough it becomes a daily occurrence, with A-Xian getting antsy if it is cancelled, and Zhan-er getting close to a meltdown.
The boys are friends - best friends - and while they sometimes clash, their troubles are soon forgotten.
They are good for one another - mindful of each other's limits and differences.
Lan Xichen has never seen his brother so open, nor so happy.
Which is why when the Jiang family decide to pull A-Xian out of Cloud Recesses due to financial difficulties, he must protest.
His words fall on deaf ears.
A-Xian cries when he hears the news. He grabs onto Lan Xichen's leg, begging not to go. Zhan-er however goes quiet…
…Before he starts screaming with the lung capacity of a professional opera singer.
It is ear-splitting.
This is how JFM finds them half an hour later, when he arrives to take A-Xian with him.
"Please," Lan Xichen begs. "Can't we do anything to allow him to stay?"
JFM looks between the three of them - the distressed LXC; the red faced A-Xian and Zhan-er (currently sobbing as he bites chunks out of his own arm).
He goes quiet for a moment. He sighs.
"Are you sure you want him?" he asks, as if hoping the answer will be no.
Lan Xichen almost sobs. "Yes. Yes, yes, more than anything."
With a torn expression, JFM offers up A-Xian's adoption papers.
The process is surprisingly easy, and takes little time to approve.
And then, A-Xian - WWX - is theirs.
When Zhan-er hears the news he runs up to A-Xian and hugs him like one of his bunnies.
"Mine," he says seriously, landing a sloppy kiss on the apple of A-Xian's cheek.
A-Xian giggles and returns the gesture.
"Lan Zhan's!" he declares shyly.
And…hmm.
Lan Xichen will cross that bridge when they come to it. For now, he really needs a nap.
And an appointment for A-Xian with the school psychiatrist.
(He does, indeed, have ADHD, and performs much better with the proper accommodations in place to aid him)

Cursed , they still claim a year later, even after they are proved wrong. Maybe they would never know better if it wasn't for his little A-Yuan.
But he is not cursed, he thinks -maybe- that he is blessed.

How long since you broke it?" His uncle ask, as stern and poised as always.
"We don't know yet." Xichen answers. His uncle makes a noise on the back on his throat and goes to Wangji to find out himself. A golden light flares out. Lan Xichen heart drops.

Immediately golden light flashed from his hands and chest where the iron was about to connect, and sends it flying away. Lan Wangji legs gave up and he fell to the floor. If he couldn't even do this, then how was he supposed to keep Wei Ying with him?

His brother was right. Wei Ying had wasted his power on a protection from him instead of himself, and now this tiny part of it would always live inside him. And not only his power, but also the young life that was now under his care

Wei Wuxian eyes are a little misty as he climbs over his lap to hide his face against Lan Wangji's neck. "Fine then, you can keep your curse all you want!" "Not cursed." "Lan Zhan, just kiss me already."

He had forcibly broken himself out of his Silencing.
i'm honestly a little fascinated by the implications of both versions. obviously it makes sense in the final release that jin guangyao would feel so overwhelmed and betrayed in the moment that he'd overcome his weak cultivation to break silence, but i read the version where lan zhan was the one to lift the spell and it has informed so much of how i characterize him and his relationship with his brother.
lan zhan had spent most of the earlier parts of the guanyin temple chapters telling his brother not to listen to anything jin guangyao says, to stop letting himself be manipulated and led around by the ears. every excuse jin guangyao had made thus far was an attempt to play to lan xichen's sympathies. and yet, in this moment, he's the one who dispels silence–because like wei ying, he knows something is wrong. something is wrong with how nie huaisang and jin guangyao are reacting... so it means that whatever jin guangyao has to say in this moment, it's something that lan xichen needs to hear. the raw, unfiltered truth, even if it hurts, even if it breaks xichen. because it's the first time since they all arrived at the guanyin temple that jin guangyao has been completely honest.
which isn't to say this aspect of his characterization isn't present in the final release. wei ying and lan zhan's conversation about sisi was only present in the final release, and in it, lan zhan clearly states his intention to tell lan xichen about jin guangyao sparing sisi once he's ready to hear it. lan zhan is honest with his brother as a rule–that's the kind of relationship they have. but i think there's something slightly more fascinating about lan zhan making the active decision to let jin guangyao break the truth to his brother in the guanyin temple. it's cold, ruthless, more than a little bloodless, but necessary.
because lan zhan can't stand to see his brother manipulated, no matter who's pulling the wool over his eyes.

I found this on my phone earlier today; I think I must have written it on a plane some while back, and then forgotten about it until now.

“No! Give it back!” Jin Ling insisted, grabbing at Jiang Cheng's robes and stomping his feet when he couldn't reach. His face was red and he seemed about to cry.
They were in one of the courtyards in Koi Tower. One of the ponds full of the glittering fish that gave the tower its name sat a few feet away; Jin Ling's sleeves were wet up to the elbows. He'd run away from his nurse and Jiang Cheng had only just found him.
Jiang Cheng could feel the watching eyes of Lanling on him, judging him. He held the dead fish up out of Jin Ling's reach, and said patiently, “Fish are for eating, not for playing.”
Jin Ling pursed his lips and a crafty expression stole across his face; he probably thought he was being subtle, but it was incredibly transparent to Jiang Cheng. "Okay," he agreed. "Then I'll eat it!"
Jiang Cheng closed his eyes in brief misery. "You can't eat these fish," he said. "These fish are decorative--"
There was a flash of white out of the corner of his eye, and Jiang Cheng stood with an excuse already on his lips, thinking surely it was Lan Xichen, because he was the only one who would be dressed in white in the middle of Koi Tower--
He cut himself off, blinking, at the sight before him. "Hanguang-Jun," he greeted, with automatic politeness. Lan Wangji looked…

Shattered. That was the word he was looking for.
It had been three years since anyone had seen Lan Wangji outside of Gusu. Jiang Cheng, frankly, had given little thought about why that might be, too consumed with his own many problems to care. In fact, now that he thought about it, the last time he'd seen Lan Wangji and had been that night at Nightless City, when Wei Wuxian had raised the Yin Tiger Seal over his head and brought death and destruction to everyone around him--
--Jiang Cheng blinked, shoving the memory back into the box where it usually lived.
And yet he couldn't help but think that the Lan Wangji before him looked like he had never left that battlefield.
He was very pale, and too thin, like he had neither eaten nor slept well in a very long time. Jiang Cheng had no idea why. Had something happened in Gusu? But Jiang Cheng would have heard of anything that would make Lan Wangji look like that, surely.
Lan Wangji did not greet Jiang Cheng, though propriety demanded it. His eyes, when they met Jiang Cheng's, were flat, filled with a strange and foreboding kind of hatred.
Instinctively, Jiang Cheng stepped in between him and Jin Ling, and his right hand clenched around--
--the fish, which squished loudly between his fingers.
It was as if a spell had been broken. Lan Wangji blinked, and looked down to see what Jiang Cheng was holding. His brows drew together as he saw the now-mangled fish, and then saw Jin Ling peering out from behind Jiang Cheng's robes, wide-eyed.
Jiang Cheng flushed and turned to pitch the dead fish back into the water where it belonged, then wiped his hand on his robes, leaving a rainbow smear of shimmering fish scales behind.
Jin Ling made an abortive motion to go after the fish, and Jiang Cheng grabbed the back of his robes.
"Hanguang-Jun," he said again when he turned back. "What brings you to Koi Tower?"
Lan Wangji said, "A letter."
From whom to whom? Had the letter called him here, or was he delivering the letter? Jiang Cheng waited for more detail, but there was none. Lan Wangji had always been taciturn but this was taking it to new levels.
Well, whatever. Lan Wangji could be as antisocial as he wanted; Jiang Cheng had better things to do. He was readying himself to extract himself from this supremely awkward conversation when Lan Wangji said, "Your nephew."
Was that supposed to be a question? Jiang Cheng gritted his teeth. "Yes, this is Jin Ling, Jin Rulan, my sister's--" embarrassingly, his voice unexpectedly cracked-- "my sister's son." Deeply ingrained manners made him put a hand on Jin Ling's shoulder and say, "Jin Ling, greet Hanguang-Jun."
Jin Ling blinked at Lan Wangji, and then brought up his hands in a creditable salute. "Hanguang-Jun," he said politely. Jiang Cheng felt a flash of pride; not all four-year olds would have managed that quite so well.
Hanguang-Jun did not comment on the fact that Jin Ling's hands were also covered in fish scales. He tipped his head down in the tiniest nod.
Then he swept a glance around the empty courtyard, and turned to look at Jiang Cheng again. "You do not use nursemaids," he said. Again, it was couched as a statement rather than a question.
Jiang Cheng flushed red, certain this was meant as criticism. "He's in Jin-zongzhu's care, not mine," he said shortly. "Jin-zongzhu has nurses, but I don't see the point when I only see him a few days a month." He had plans in the works for getting longer periods of custody, but it was going to require a lot of trading of resources and favors to accomplish it, and he hadn't gotten the entire thing together yet. "It's not like taking care of a child is that difficu-- A-Ling. Do not put that in your mouth."
Jin Ling looked up with guilty expression, fishy hands cupped around something already halfway to his mouth. "But jiujiu--"
"I said no." Kneeling down, he took Jin Ling's hands and pried them open. Somehow in the two seconds Jiang Cheng hadn't been watching, Jin Ling had found a bug. "You're going to get sick if you keep putting random things in your mouth. You never know where they've been…"
He barely noticed when Lan Wangji left.

Have you ever thought that Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen probably thought that Lan Wangji would end up like his father just for the way he stood up for Wei Wuxian, but in the end who actually went into seclusion was Lan Xichen for trusting too much someone not worth the trust?
They always knew Wei Wuxian was trouble, just imagined that with Lan Wangji trying to take him back Gusu, he would lock them both up, no chance of ever getting out. Except he knew Wei Wuxian wasn't wrong, but people wronged him. That's why he stood up for him, but nobody believed him, not even his brother.
Instead, Lan Xichen trusted someone quite the opposite, showing us that evil has no face, no signals (although there was some), it can hide behind a kind smile. In the end he did just the same his dad had before, seclusion to think about those type of things. Was he wrong? Was he right? Was he fooled? Had him known it the whole time, just decided to ignore and pretend it wasn't real? Had he been a fool? He'll never know.

That slight softening of A-Zhan’s lips meant you are nice and I am fond of you. The little sideways eyeroll – you expect too much of yourself and the world around you. The tiny, irritated huff of breath – if you actually wanted everyone to have a nice time you wouldn’t ask me to be here.

"That's not," Lan Zhan start then he presses his lips together. "Of course, if that's what you want, then-"
Wei Wuxian flinches.
Lan Zhan goes silent, looking at him with his hands loose at his sides and a helpless expression that Wei Wuxian last remembers seeing as he fell off a cliff's edge.
"Brother," Lan Xichen says gently, "have you asked Xuanyu what she wants?"
"It's fine," he says quickly, "It doesn't matter what I want."
Jiang Cheng's eyes narrow but before Wei Wuxian can head off the temper he can see see brewing, Lan Zhan has crossed the distance between them, grabbing his hands and holding them in almost too tight grip, and Wei Wuxian can't focus on anything but Lan Zhan's dark eyes. "It matters to me."
His mouth goes dry. He's so close, and they used to be the same height, and one of the only things he's not quite used to in this body is how much shorter he is, how he has to tilt his head back to meet Lan Zhan's gaze.
He wants this baby.
It's not fair. It's not right. This isn't his life and isn't his child, not really, it's all stolen and borrowed and nothing he'll have to keep. If he brings this child into the world, he's sentencing them to a life with a dead parent. He knows that life.
But a life as the child of Lan Zhan is a good life. He knows it. Look at Sizhui, at how wonderful he is, at how kind and loved.
"What do you want?" he asks.
Lan Zhan shakes his head. "That's not important."
What a ridiculous thing to say. "It is to me."
He stays perfectly still and then his eyes dip down to Wei Wuxian's stomach, where their - where his and Mo Xuanyu's baby grows. His grip on his hands briefly tightens to the point of almost pain before he says, "I want our child." He slowly pulls up his eyes to meet Wei Wuxian's once more. "If that's what you want."
Lan Zan wants their baby.
This makes everything more complicated, if he's to have this baby and still fulfill the purpose Mo Xuanyu died to give him. His life is about to get so much harder.
He's so relieved he's nearly dizzy with it.
"Me too," he says. "I want that too."
"Okay," Lan Zhan says softly. "Okay, Xuanyu."
"XUANYU!"
He startles, pulling back to see Jiang Yanli standing there, panting as she holds onto Jin Guangyao's arm in support.
"Yanli-jie!" he says in concern, rushing over to her. "Are you alright?"
She waves a dismissive hand, which doesn't answer his question. "Never mind that. Are you alright?" She glares over his shoulder, he assumes at Lan Zhan.
It shouldn't be endearing, but of course it is. Thirteen years as a Jin and she's still so perfectly Jiang, so perfectly herself, that it's enough to make him homesick even when he's right in front of her. "Yeah, Yanli-jie. I'm alright."
She huffs and grips his wrist, pulling him to her side and then not quite sure what to so with him, but he settles a hand at her elbow and says, "Let's get ready for the banquet, okay?"
"Fine," she says, scowl finally melting into something softer.
He glances behind him as he leaves to find he still has Lan Zhan's full attention and has to keep himself from flushing.
Lan Zhan hadn't had a sip of alchohal, but just then, before Jiang Yanli arrived -
Wei Wuxian had thought that Lan Zhan was about to kiss him.

Hello! For fanfic club, may I request canonverse no war AU where Wei wuxian doesn't get kicked out of the lectures? Please give me humour, everyone else face palming at oblivious wangxian, fluff, them being adorable and I love and figuring what they wanna be months before the lectures end. Most likely with implied future ending (like it could be lwj planning to propose 2 years later and making mental notes, etc). Thank you!

(side note: I read that according to old customs, couples sometimes exchanged their jade pendants at their engagement ceremony, which is why nhs tells wwx to buy it at caiyi town)

So, it’s not weird. It’s very casual, y’know, nothing to write home about. It’s just that Wei Wuxian has found himself going back to the Library Pavilion. Every day. And that’s! Normal!
“But,” Nie Huaisang’s brows scrunched in confusion. “Your punishment ended a week ago…right?”
“Yeah, so?”
“....No reason….” Nie Huaisang flipped open his fan, his tone all-too-casual all he followed his cryptic musings up with an offer, “Wei-xiong, on a completely unrelated note, I’d be happy to lend you some more of my books, if you want any.”

“I’ve noticed that Wei-gongzi seems to be visiting the Library Pavillion often these days,” Lan Xichen hedged, sounding far-too curious for his own good. Lan Wangji’s spine felt somehow stiffer as he walked alongside his brother and although he was confident nothing about his expression gave him away, he could feel his traitorous ears burning. 
“He is an avid reader,” Lan Wangji said, straight-faced, like a liar. He was sure Wei Wuxian was well-read so it wasn’t technically a lie, since they were in the Cloud Recesses, where that was strictly forbidden.
It’s only that when Wei Wuxian visited, he didn’t exactly sit quietly and pick up scrolls. He’d pester Lan Wangji, sprawling over his desk, tugging on his sleeve, drawing him frivolous (pretty) things that Lan Wangji would pretend not to look at, and recently, he’d even begun to bring in little violets he picked from the back mountain which - who knows how he’d found his way there.
It was a simple omission of the truth. Nothing more. 
“Well, whatever the case,” Lan Xichen smiled, lashes dipping. “It’s good to see you have a friend.”
“He is not a friend,” Lan Wangji informed his brother curtly, but Lan Xichen’s smile did not waver even a fraction.
“Then it’s good you have a companion.”
Lan Wangji didn’t dignify that with a response, mostly because he didn’t have one. He feared his second denial would fall flatter than the first. 
Because he kept coming back, is the thing. Wei Wuxian always came back. His punishment had ended long ago - he had no reasn to visit the Library Pavilion as frequently, as faithfully as he did. He only came, after all, to find Lan Wangji. And despite Lan Wangji’s attempts to ice him out, Wei Wuxian was a warmth that burned through all of his many layers of frost, settling pleasantly in his chest. It was a warmth Lan Wangji had come to crave. 
If not a companion, then what was Wei Wuxian, to Lan Wangji?

“Do you think Lan Zhan would like the purple one or the green one better? Or, should I just stick with blue?”
“Lan Zhan?” Nie Huaisang raised an inquisitive brow. Wei Wuxian blinked, wide grey eyes innocent and sparkling like the river that ran behind them.
“Yes…?”
“You call him by his birth name?”
“I think I just did?”
“To his face?”
“What other body part of his would I be talking to?”
Oh, this was too much fun. Nie Huaisang bit his tongue against all the innuendos poised atop the tip. “And he hasn’t murdered you yet?”
Wei Wuxian huffed, throwing his hands out, all dramatics. “I don’t know, Nie-xiong, are you talking to a ghost right now?”
“....To be determined,” Nie Huaisang decided, nodding towards the money purses clutched in Wei Wuxian’s hands. “If you want my advice, don’t give him that. You should get him a jade pendant.”
This recent entertainment Nie Huaisang had found in watching Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji dance around each other was a double-edged blade, one he could actually wield. For one, it was endlessly amusing that Wei Wuxian thought all that he wanted from Lan Wangji was his friendship. Nie Huaisang wasn’t fluent in spring books and romance novels for nothing - he was practically an expert on these kinds of affairs, and he’d eat his own fan if it really turned out Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were only ‘friends.’ And then, as if that wasn’t enough, on a day free of classes Wei Wuxian had all but dragged Nie Huaisang along with him to Caiyi Town to go shopping, for a ‘friendship gift’ for ‘his Lan Zhan.’ Yes, Wei Wuxian had used those exact words. 
“Why a jade pendant?” Wei Wuxian frowned, but obediently put down the money purse to hold the jade pendant above his head, studying the way it sparkled when the light hit it just right. 
“You want him to know you’re interested in him, don’t you?”
“In his friendship? Duh. I like Lan Zhan. He’s a funny guy.”
“Uh-huh,” Nie Huaisang smiled a fox’s smile behind his fan. “Well, this will make your intentions crystal clear, Wei-xiong, trust me.”
In his defense, Nie Huaisang hadn’t specified the exact intention the jade pendant would bring light to.

“Lan Zhan!”
Lan Wangji freezes in his tracks, tongue caught in between his teeth. It’s enough time for Wei Wuxian to catch up to him, all radiant light and buoyant smiles and laughter that rings out like bells.
“You were walking so fast, er-gege, I had to run to catch up! Where are you off to in such a rush, hm?”
Lan Wangji feels terribly tongue-tied, feels as if he cannot possibly say he is going to feed the bunnies Wei Wuxian gifted him. It feels far too vulnerable to state in the warm light of day. Too much like a confession for something Lan Wangji had only recently put into words. 
Unfortunately, Wei Wuxian eyes aren’t just arresting, crystalline clear and sparkling grey, but keen as well. They dart to the carrots Lan Wangji holds in his hands - and, well, even if Wei Wuxian wasn’t a genius, anyone would be able to put two and two together. 
A steady, burning flush spreads from the tips of his ears down to his throat. Lan Wangji thinks, with no small amount of mortification, that it may have bled to his cheeks as well. 
“Oh! You’re off to feed our children, huh?” Wei Wuxian grins, and before Lan Wangji’s can grow any more flustered, Wei Wuxian asks, “Mind if I tag along?”
Wei Wuxian doesn’t wait for Lan Wangji’s answer - maybe because he fears Lan Wangji will reject his advances yet again - whatever the case, he simply winds his arm around the crook of Lan Wangji’s elbow and begins leading them down the gravel path as if he knows the way. Which, to be fair, he probably does. Lan Wangji doesn’t rebuff Wei Wuxian nor does he try to shake him off, so he supposes that is enough of an answer on its own. 
“I knew you were fond of those bunnies Lan Zhan,” Lan Wangji can hear the grin in Wei Wuxian’s tone, can imagine it curved across his face, his eyes twin crescent-moons of mirth. He keeps his eyes on the path before him. This simple point of contact between them, after all, already feels fit to send him into qi deviation. Lan Wangji doesn’t know how much more his painfully thin face can take. He can barely manage to hum in acknowledgement. 
“Mn.” 
“I’m glad I didn’t roast them then, hahaha! Aiyah, don’t look at me like that - you can call me a lot of things, but I’m not a bunny killer, really Lan Zhan. They’re too fluffy to eat!” Wei Wuxian chattered along, his voice like the babbling of an excitable brook. Lan Wangji found it incomparably soothing, as he always did. “I always kind of wanted a pet, y’know? But not, like, a dog.” Wei Wuxian shuddered and Lan Wangji felt the aftershocks shiver into his arm, melting into his bones. It may have been a bit dramatic, but Lan Wangji thought Wei Wuxian’s eyes grew a bit too wide for him to be exaggerating. “Rabbits are tiny and fluffy and sweet. Dogs are just the worst, don’t you agree Lan Zhan?”
Lan Wangji had never had much of an opinion on dogs before, but in that instant, he unequivocally decided they were intolerable. “Dogs are forbidden in the Cloud Recesses,” Lan Wangji said - and he realized only after he had said it that yes, he had said it to comfort Wei Wuxian. He wanted to soothe the tightness with which that arm suddenly squeezed around his own. 
“Really?” Wei Wuxian asked, easing up. “How did I miss that rule? That would have been my favorite one!”
“My uncle does not like them,” Lan Wangji responded, which was, technically, not a lie. Of course, his uncle would not like the rabbits Lan Wangji was keeping either - but the bunnies were small, and far out of the way, as much as they possibly could be.
Lan Wangji figured that he could allow himself this small act of rebellion.
For Wei Wuxian, he could. 
He made a mental note to suggest to his uncle that they should specify no dogs were allowed in the Cloud Recesses. 
“Oh!” Lan Wangji’s eyes darted over at Wei Wuxian’s exclamation. “Before I forget, I have a gift for you.”
A gift?
“There is no need,” Lan Wangji said, stilted, mostly because he was confused over why he would be receiving a gift, and because this was breaking yet another rule. Do not overindulge. 
“Of course, there’s a need,” Wei Wuxian laughed, pulling something out of his sleeve. “Everyone likes gifts. Here - you have to take it, I bought it, just for you. Don’t reject me so harshly, okay? It’ll hurt my feelings.”
Lan Wangji bit his tongue, but relented with a small nod. It was also against the rules to be unnecessarily cruel, after all. 
Blood pounded in his ears, almost deafening Wei Wuxian’s explanation of his gift - but even if the wave of sound resounding in his head had somehow swept away Wei Wuxian’s words, Lan Wangji would have known what the gift meant, anyway. Lan Wangji felt useless, he could only stare at the exquisitely carved jade pendant as it soaked up golden sunlight, carefully cradled in Wei Wuxian’s palm. 
The implications sent his mind reeling, and his heart into disarray. Wei Wuxian couldn’t possibly mean-
Lan Wangji couldn’t remember a time his face had felt so hot, besides any other moment he had shared with Wei Wuxian - Wei Ying. Yes, Wei Wuxian had given Lan Wangji permission to call him by his birth name, hadn’t he? He had, and Lan Wangji had long ago forgotten when he’d stopped minding the sound of his own on Wei Wuxian’s tongue. It felt like it belonged there. As if it were meant for Wei Wuxian’s lips and Wei Wuxian’s alone.
“Don’t tease,” Lan Wangji said, his voice coming out somewhat sharper than he meant it. Quieter, too. Because if this was a joke, like he had suspected so many of Wei Wuxian’s flirtations to be-
“I’m not!” Wei Wuxian protested, his free hand thumping atop his heart as he bounced beside Lan Wangji. “Lan Zhan, you wound me. I present you this gift with only the sincerest intentions. Won’t you believe me? I’ll hold onto the tail-end of your forehead ribbon and swear on my parents’ graves if that’ll give it more weight.”
“No need,” Lan Wangji managed through the sudden lump that had appeared in his throat, unswallowable. So, they shared a kinship in this? Unconsciously, he found himself softening. “I believe you.”
“Good,” Wei Wuxian’s tongue teased the sharp tip of his canine. Lan Wangji’s eyes couldn’t help but track the movement. “You have to believe me. Lying is prohibited in the Cloud Recesses, don’t you know?”
Something strange happened, then. A foreign feeling welled up inside of his chest, not unlike a flurry of excited butterflies. Lan Wangji didn’t think he had felt it since he had last seen his mother, ten long years ago.
It was the urge - to smile. To laugh. 
“I do know,” Lan Wangji shot Wei Wuxian a side-long look. “Do you?”
“When it comes to the important stuff, of course,” Wei Wuxian sounded so solemn, and heart-wrenchingly sincere. And under the warm summer sunlight, caught in a fragrant, gentle breeze-
How couldn’t Lan Wangji believe him?
They continued down the path together, arms entwined.

From a bridge not too far away, two figures watched the two dressed in white disappear into the forest, their white, swirling robes lost in the thick swathes of swaying green.
“Romance is in the air, wouldn’t you say, Jin-xiong?” Nie Huaisang sighed, a dreamy smile curving his lips as he idly fanned himself. Jin Zixuan had joined him in watching Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian blush and make eyes at each other - mostly to make disgusted, retching noises, but it hadn’t gone unnoticed by Nie Huaisang, how round his eyes had gotten when Wei Wuxian had presented Lan Wangji with his gift. Clearly, he was taking notes. 
“How is it romantic? It’s hopeless, is what it is,” Jin Zixuan groaned, though Nie Huaisang noticed he hadn’t torn his eyes away, his gaze still settled on where Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian’s afterimages lingered. “And my cousins tease me for being oblivious.”
“You are,” Nie Huaisang says, because he was present for the mess Jin Zixuan made of himself in front of Jiang Yanli at the last Jiang Clan banquet. 
Jin Zixuan shot Nie Huaisang a horrible glare, but there was really nothing he could say in his defense.

Later, away from the prying eyes of others - how could Lan Wangji, with his sharp senses, be somehow unaware they were being watched? - as Lan Wangji watched Wei Wuxian tumble around in the grass around the rabbits, laughing and calling out the names he had given them, these children of theirs he had claimed them to be, a thought solidified in his mind, sunlight shining through amber, revealing the treasure inside.
I want to spend forever with him.
Lan Wangji had thought he’d think himself in circles trying to come up with the perfect gift to give Wei Wuxian in return. He wasn’t good at expressing himself, the breadth of his emotions - but Lan Wangji had come to realize, as the sun started to slink past the horizon, and the world was enveloped in rosy tones and shades of blue, that maybe it was only he wasn’t the best with words.
Maybe something like this didn’t need words, in the end. 
As they turned to leave, and Wei Wuxian looked at him with those silver, sparkling eyes, pure happiness in his voice as he asked Lan Wangji if they could visit their rabbits every day, Lan Wangji could no longer resist. He took Wei Wuxian around the waist, into his arms, and only shook a little as he pressed their lips together. 
Wei Wuxian tasted like spring. Lush against Lan Wangji’s lips, incomparably soft and impossibly sweet. Lan Wangji pulled away, only because air was a necessity and it was quickly running from his lungs, in the face of what he had just done. 
“Ah?” Wei Wuxian’s fingers trembled as they traced his lips, his cheeks dusting an intoxicating pink. “What was that for?”
Lan Wangji swallowed, and though the kiss had been chaste, his voice came out hoarse. “Your gift.”
“My gift,” Wei Wuxian murmured, lashes fluttering, and before Lan Wangji could worry he’d somehow misread the situation, Wei Wuxian was clinging to his arms, crying out. “Lan Zhan! Now mine looks inadequate! I’m going to have to buy you a thousand more jade pendants! A million! Even that won’t be enough!”
A shadow of a smile tucked itself into the corner of his lips. 
“Or,” Lan Wangji cleared his throat, preserving valiantly through the waves of his own shamelessness. “You could kiss me again.”
Wei Wuxian quieted, a dangerous, beautiful gleam alighting in his star-bright eyes. 
“I could do that,” Wei Wuxian agreed, pulling Lan Wangji down once more.

A) In this fic Wei Ying is the God of the Underworld. Infact everybody is a God here. And Wei Ying has a town or city built in his domain for the souls of the dead and I think the Wens lived there. Also the other Gods considered him a pariah. I remember this one scene where he comes up or goes down the stairs from heaven which leads to the Underworld after a conference with the Gods.
B) I remember only one scene from this fic. It was during the Wen Indoctrination where after Wei Ying was sent to the cell with the Dog he acts dead and Lan Wangji and Jiang Wanyin are heartbroken. But actually Wen Qing just helped Wei Ying's heart rate to slow down to convince Wen Chao of his death. I think Wei Ying wakes up right there after a few minutes or so. @yilinglaobunny

Basically it’s a short fic where Lan Zhan goes out to travel for something and while he’s gone someone upsets Wei Ying, so to get back at him Wei Ying pretends to have sex super loudly every night. Looking for a modern fic where LWJ is constantly being mean to WWX, whose constantly trying to befriend him. Eventually wwx has a whole breakdown about it, and he mentions how LWJ is an asshole to him for no reason. There’s a scene mentioning wwx baking cookies for him and he thought Lwj threw it out but in reality it is revealed in the end by Lwj himself that he ate it (although he was allergic to it) and WWX says something along the lines of that’s why you missed class that Monday. Turns out LWJ just struggles with communication. I think they are neighbors or roommates I can’t remember. Hopefully someone can help.

12. Hi, I would love some help locating a fic. I can't really remember a lot of the main plot since it has been a while since I read it. I believe it is a post-canon fic, but Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian had to go back to the Burial Mounds, and Wei Wuxian had to unbury his original body that was buried in the blood pool. I think. I also think that for Wei Wuxian's original body to survive, he had to wear a bracelet of some sort. I don't remember, or maybe I am confused by two different fics.

This may be a scene from a long fic but I’m not sure. Wwx is possessed by something more than resentful energy- it’s an ancient demon who wants to destroy the world. Wwx seals himself inside the cold pond cave and puts up a barrier- I guess prepared to stay there forever? Lwj somehow gets in there to stay with him, and has conversations with the demon. The demon is extremely strong, throws him around and hurts him a little. His brother and uncle are pacing outside the barrier demanding he come out. The elders want to execute wwx which is why lwj is in the cave in the first place.
It’s canon setting but I can’t remember the time line- war? No war? Wwx and lwj aren’t together yet though. I remember this fic being pretty good- I’d love to reread it!

20. So I've lost a fic again, and I need your help once more!
So the premise of the fic was that lwj did enact that fantasy of taking wwx in the library when they were young, only after lwj internally freaks out and runs off to his brother for punishment because "xiongzhang I took someone by force 😢 I'm horrible"
I don't remember how exactly they got there but lxc gets lwj and wwx to talk, intending for wwx to decide how lwj should be punished as the wronged party. Except wwx somehow comes to the conclusion of "Let me f*ck (fuck) Lan zhan! 😠 he took me, so now I should take him!"
