Yet I can’t help it that I’m not upset about this. Honestly it’s a bit of a poetic end for them. They die like those on the titanic. And now they will likely lay with the ship. Maybe years from now history will repeat itself. Who knows, humanity is so god damn weird.

I don't know how to react. This 1890 Brownstone in Chicago, Illinois was painted black and COMPLETELY gutted. It's now like a brand new modern townhouse. 4bds, 5ba, $4,999,999M. (Like that price is gonna fool anyone, it's $5M)

Certainly there was a hallway and walls were removed to open up what were the former sitting rooms. The fireplace was completely renewed and the space is now an open concept living/dining room. If there were any medallions on the ceiling with original lighting, they are gone now, in favor of a smooth ceiling with modern pot lights.

I read every word of the description and it doesn't say what these surfaces are. Judging by the sharp edges, they don't Iook like marble or quartz. I would actually venture to say that they're laminate.

The description talks about the white coffered ceilings, which may or not be original. This is a family room off the everyday dining room, featuring a built-in sink/bar.

It also has built-in shelving with a black & gold background, plus a new fireplace.

I love when rich people say shit like this 🙄 Like “oh, you wanna travel? Just grab your passport and go!” As if a huge chunk of the population can’t even afford passports, let alone the time off work, fuel/flights, accommodation etc etc. As if disabled folks don’t have to consider the health risks and added accommodation needs involved in the process that also often come with additional costs.

“You wanna sell on Etsy? Pick a craft and do it!” As if being a small artist isn’t 6 jobs in 1 on top of your 9-5 and buying the supplies to do even the most simple craft is often out of reach for many. As if Etsy doesn’t cost money every single month for product listings and takes huge fees if you manage to make a sale. As if it doesn’t require a camera/phone to take product photos, stable internet connections, being able to access a post office and having a safe place to store anything you manage to make. Add in considerations for those with fine motor disabilities, how expensive adaptive equipment is or if the craft is even suitable for some disabilities and see how ‘easy’ it is to “just do it”

“Just sit down and write a book” as if it’s really that simple. Sure IF you learned to read and write (which, yknow not everyone did. A huge number of poor folks never got that opportunity) and don’t have disabilities making the writing process even harder, do you have any idea how difficult it is to actually write a book good enough to be published? How ableist and elitist the publishing world is? How expensive it is? No? Then stfu with your “permissions”

Poor and disabled folks don’t have the luxury of “just doing it” most of the time, and it’s posts like this that continue to spread the idea that it’s our fault rather than the systems at play working to actively suppress any form of joy or creativity in anyone deemed “unworthy” Posts like this just continue to suppress the voices of people that find these things to be simply inaccessible with no consideration for the real reasons why.

The only thing that's stopping you from succeeding is your refusal to try. If you want to accomplish something, then quit beating around the bush with what-ifs and could-bes and just do it.

Do you want to write a book? Then sit your ass down and start writing. Even if it's only a word a day.

Do you think it would be cool to try running a small Etsy shop? Then pick a craft and hop to it.

Do you want to travel? Then get your passport, save up, and just go.

What's stopping you, anyway? The fear of failure? The only way you fail is if you don't even try.

Is it the thought that you have something to lose? Keep fucking around and your indecisiveness will make you lose it anyway.

Happiness isn't discovered without putting in the effort. You won't gain any freedoms until you reach out your hands and take them.

So what are you still waiting for? Permission?

Then take a good look in the mirror and give it to yourself.
