I’m watching the Wild Boys! It looks kind it’ll be in black and white, and also French, which I didn’t anticipate. It stars five women playing teenage boys. Excited about the gender fuckery promised by the premise.

Tío Paco has been a waiter for forty years. Very poor, very proud, contemptuous of tips, he cares only for the game. He brings the wrong order and blames the client, he flicks the nastiest towel, he shoves a tip back saying “The house pays us.” He screams after a client “Le service n’est-ce pas compris.” He has studied with Pullman George and learned the art of jiggling arms across the room: hot coffee in a quiet American crotch. And woe to the waiter who crosses him: tray flies into the air. Rich well-dressed clients dodge cups and glasses, bottle of Fundador broken on the floor.

i do wonder if we’re ever gonna reach a type of cinema and audience that allow an adaptation of the wild boys by william burroughs. i know a few people have tried, but nothing came of it, and if you’ve read it you know why. but it would really be interesting to watch it on screen, mainly to see the reaction of this generation’s people. to see the reviews of the work, because reading of people fucking is one thing, but seeing it is totally another thing. i wonder, in this age of total body liberation and mass media sex, how the “story” would be interpreted. it would still reach a niche group of people, it doesn’t have what it takes to become a mass movie, it’s too weird and difficult i guess, but to experience it 50 years after its publishing through a different media? yes, please

Release: October 26, 1984
Lyrics:
Wild, wild, boys, boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
The wild boys are calling
On their way back from the fire
In August moon's surrender to
A dust cloud on the rise
Wild boys fallen far from glory
Reckless and so hungered
On the razors edge you trail
Because there's murder by the roadside
In a sore afraid new world
They tried to break us
Looks like they'll try again
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always shine
You got sirens for a welcome
There's bloodstain for your pain
And your telephone been ringing
While you're dancing in the rain
Wild boys wonder where is glory
Where is all you angels
Now the figureheads of have fell
And lovers war with arrows
Over secrets they could tell
They tried to tame you looks like they'll try again
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always shine
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Songwriter:
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Wild boys

SongFacts:
Director Russell Mulcahy wanted to make a feature film based on William S. Burroughs' 1971 surrealistic, sexually-oriented novel The Wild Boys: A Book Of The Dead. According to his idea, the band should contribute a contemporary soundtrack, like Queen later for the film Highlander - There Can Only Be One. However, the Wild Boys feature film was never realized.
For the Greatest compilation, released in the fall of 1998, EMI commissioned the band to produce remixes, including two of 'The Wild Boys', which were only released on promo CDs.
'The Wild Boys' was released as a single on October 26, 1984 and is one of the band's most successful tracks.
The track was featured on the albums 'Arena' (1984), 'Decade: Greatest Hits' (1989), 'Night Versions: The Essential Duran Duran' (1998, US only), 'Greatest' (1998) and 'Strange Behaviour' (1999). The B-side, the live version of the track '(I'm Looking for) Cracks in the Pavement' was recorded at the Maple Leaf Gardens sports arena, where the video for the Duran-Duran classic 'The Reflex ' originated.
The video for the song, which was directed by Mulcahy himself, was intended to show his performances for his feature film 'The Wild Boys'. It was shot at Pinewood Studios and cost over a million dollars to produce due to the lavish set including a metal pyramid, a windmill in front of a pool of water, prosthetics, make-up effects and what was then state-of-the-art computer graphics. The clip won Best British Video at the 1985 BRIT Awards.
The band members can be seen as prisoners in a dystopian future world who are finally able to free themselves.
